Guest Reviews
- jnails1 (6/5): Not what it was 10 years ago, that's for sure. - I'd dreamed of coming back here for 10 years & we finally were able to make it happen on a very long drive down from Kentucky, so it pains me to make this review. We splurged to pay over $100 more for 1 night at the Colony (total was $247.50) than what we'd paid at a St. Augustine hotel the night prior.
That other hotel included a full hot breakfast & a comfy king sized bed, but on our travel budget, upon arrival it turned out that we could only afford a queen sized room at the Colony where breakfast is not hot (cereal, yogurt, fruit & muffins). I convinced my husband that it would be worth it. I was wrong & he was mad.
The best part was their lobby bar (friendly bartender) & having arrived after 9pm, we enjoyed relaxing in the warmer weather on their front porch with our libations, then went for a walk in search of dinner.
Be forewarned....the entire city has gotten even more expensive & watch your restaurant checks closely because the nearby Hampton Social automatically adds an 18% surcharge to fund their staffs wages, plus benefits.... which you might not notice because their restaurant is so dark (yep, left them a scathing 1 star review for the deception).
The young front desk staff at the Colony were cordial & answered my questions, but their lack of hospitality training is not their fault. However, it's a direct reflection expressed in other peoples reviews about how the hotel is definitely not what it used to be. Appearances & first impressions matter! I'm unsure, but possibly they are the grandchildren of an owner or someone connected to the hotel.
Having worked in hospitality myself, the owner(s) or management should visit other upscale, historic hotels (such as the French Lick, IN hotel that we frequent) to see how their staff is required to dress & how they're trained to carry themselves, plus how to carry a conversation to interact with guests when on duty.
The cold breakfast was ok & tided us over for about 2 hours. The orange cranberry muffins were good & so was the coffee which we had on their front porch since the weather was so good. Unfortunately, we couldn't wait to leave because my husband didn't sleep well & was crabby. Then for the rest of our 12 day trip he insisted on a king sized bed as he kept recounting this let-down of an experience.
Like the old saying goes, "you can't go back"& I found that out the hard way. It's sad, but I wished I'd just left the Colony Hotel & Cabana Club stay a wonderful memory from our visit in 2016.
- HHI614 (4/5): Owners need to make a ghost visit ! - Front Staff needs attitude adjustment or a new career !
Nobody is friendly except the pool / beach staff so we will not return .
- masulliv (10/5): Best Place in Delray - This is an art deco hotel in middle all the action in DelRay....rooms are ok but the club is to die for and there is plenty of room to relax in the lobby!
- USAnumberone (4/5): See ya - Been coming for years, but, last July 2025, staff at hotel is lacking personality.
Now it’s November…still lacking, rooms are cleaned when they get around to it, last time and this time I searched for the housekeeping cart for towels to take a shower. We tell the skilled… front desk, nothing…
Our whole time Luke warm water to shower, just terrible. O, don’t think we didn’t make the management aware, again, ….nothing
So see ya, looking up north for a BNB to enjoy on the beach. Plus Delrays prices are a little much.
But, Amar is outstanding! We will miss them.
- Rick (10/5): - Clean, close to dining and retail, good dollar value.
- Roxanne (10/5): - The charm and cleanliness of this historic hotel is awesome! Enjoyed our stay and will be back soon
- Gregory (8/5): - Yes parking was very convenient
- Sarah (8/5): - The hotel was cool in the fact it was historic. However the staff seemed distant. My remote was disgusting
- mary (10/5): - Beautiful hotel in downtown Delray loved everything about it
- Andrew (10/5): - Vintage environment with modern air conditioning and a great private beach and pool.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We loved this hotel! It’s almost 100 years old & close to everything! It was very quiet & absolutely beautiful! The staff was so friendly & helpful! We had a wonderful time!
- Ricardo (10/5): - Love this area and perfect for my age
- Deborah (10/5): - Would go back for the beach club anytime!!
- william (10/5): - We’ve stayed here many times and they have done many nice upgrades to the property. It’s convenient to everything that makes Delray Beach special.
- Anamaria (8/5): - Will sure be back! Beach club is the best amenity
- USAnumberone (6/5): Soo disappointed - Pool area and staff at the pool are so polite and attentive, ty.
The front desk..not so much, never really look up. I asked 3x to freshen up our room this past Saturday, ended up finding staff in hallway in conversation, gave me towels to get by..
Been coming here for years, not anymore. Hopefully this will be reviewed. Early morning guard is asleep near front door, woman at desk on speaker phone laughing, carrying on...
$1 for water,really.
Calling management on Wednesday.
- Vilija (10/5): - Historical Hotel, very clean and pleasant staff
- Vilija (10/5): - We have been staying at this hotel for many years, always pleasant staff, they even upgraded us to a nicer lighter room, provided cooler for our convenience. They were always so pleasant and with the smile. Will come back again.
- Janice (10/5): - My son has recently moved to this area of Florida, we have been to this hotel 4 x in less than a year. It's truly a hidden gem! The beds are so comfortable, we sleep great when we go there.
Beach club has the nicest staff and the lunch served there is basic but delicious!
The last time we were there though there was a problem with the air conditioning, (they are window air conditioners). They kept stopping , we would have to unplug it and plug it back in. We did report it when leaving Room 214! Otherwise , we never had a problem. Perfect location with free parking! Give it a try!
- Pedro Arley (6/5): - Rooms doesn't have mini fridge
- David (8/5): - The building is super old and wonderful, making it difficult to upgrade I'm sure.
But the window unit a/c was extremely loud, making it hard to sleep when you're not used to those units.
- Marlayna (6/5): - The location is great, but the property is old and lacks modern amenities and in-room comforts. Wall A/C unit was noisy and didn’t really cool the room down. Pool and beach club are offsite and will require an uber- front desk claimed it was a 40 minute walk….no way. Shuttle runs every few hours there but stops conveniently at 4pm which is when check-in is. There is no bar or restaurant and the pool and beach club either which would’ve been nice for the front desk staff to tell us. Overall, this was just an OK stay. It served our purpose of staying the night to meet friends in Delray. However, I will probably opt for a chain hotel next time.
- Herbert (10/5): - Historic hotel, beach club access
- Alexandra (10/5): - Excellent. Totally enjoyed out staycation.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Is always a wonderful time here. So quiet and comfy.
- Robert (10/5): - We liked the history of the hotel. The noise level of the streets were a little annoying but overall we loved it
- dailey (10/5): - I love the Colony and stay there often. The hotel is like no other and the beach club super charming and chill. I’ll be back!
- Steven (8/5): - Old, historic hotel…not fancy but very quaint with a lot of character. Great location on famous “Atlantic Avenue.” Temporary membership with nearby Cabana Beach Club is a great guest amenity. Comfortable siting areas inside & outside. Polite & helpful staff.
- Leonard (10/5): - Great location old school charm, Minor issues carpet in elevator filthy, bathroom tile off lobby floor tiles need to be updated
- Jessica (10/5): - Such a great stay at the Colony Hotel! Room was clean and inviting. The pool at the Cabana Clus was great too, very relaxing.
- Iva (8/5): - Cool hotel with lots of history, but not up to modern standards. Furniture worn out, bathtub chiped, noisy window conditioner. But has cool vibe, with bar and live music. Great location, walking distance to beach and plenty stores and restaurants available.
- Debra Lynn (10/5): - Cabana club was gorgeous. Very friendly stuff. Great location. Would definitely recommend.
- Jorge (10/5): - Older place with lots of charm and well maintained.
Right in the thick of Atlantic Ave yet quiet inside.
Breakfast is very basic and a HH at the bar and terrace would have been nice but overall a great weekend getaway.
- David (10/5): - Great location for walkable night life. and the cabana club ion the beach s a great amentity. You get the best of both worlds with this hotel.
- Bethany (10/5): - Very helpful niice professional staff thank you to Bill and Nathalie!
- Gwendolyn (10/5): - We loved the pool and beach club.
- Anthony (2/5): Very misleading website. - Place is extremely dated. Front desk employee could care less about guests. Completely disorganized and has limited grasp of English language.
This hotels website is very misleading.
This place must have been very nice in the 1920s and 1930s but not in the last 60 plus years
- William (10/5): - I loved the
- Margaret (10/5): - I love the colony. Feels like being home
- Susan (8/5): Lovely stay at vintage hotel - Vintage hotel with vintage charm, but lacked modern conveniences ie, bathroom fans, usb ports, limited electric outlets. Limited handicap accessibility due to stairs to enter
Pros: friendly staff, laundry facilities, bar service after 4:00, continental breakfast/coffee in mornings, on strip with easy walking to bars/restaurants and a lovely veranda with bistro table and music on weekends.
- Hadee (10/5): - Beautiful spot, you must come here
- Jessica (10/5): - On the negative side, this historic hotel itself is a bit shabby and the lobby is dark. The poorly trained front desk staff member who checked us in neglected to tell me that they offer a really nice breakfast gratis every morning with home made muffins. On the positive side, the rooms are nice and the beach club, located two miles from the hotel, is wonderful. It has an enormous pool, a lovely open air restaurant and is right on the beautiful Delray beach. Also, it is delightfully quiet with no pumped in music or cell phone conversations allowed. Overall, I’d say the hotel is a real find as the prices are reasonable, parking is gratis, breakfast is excellent and the hotel offers a shuttle to its beach property if you don’t want to drive. We definitely plan to visit again!
- Brian (6/5): - Walkable to all of the great restaurants in Delray Beach. Not a fancy hotel as it is an older property but the pool and cabana is beautiful.
- Stephanie (8/5): - Nice beach club
- Amy (10/5): - Perfect!!!
- Amy (4/5): - No hot water all 3 days that I stayed. I reported it each day but nothing was done. It seems that this is nothing new, happens all the time
- andymG4344JX (4/5): Honest review - Here a honest review
Great hotel just little updates for rooms the tv wouldn’t work and there was a toenail in are room. When they say they “clean” it’s just making beds and put towels up. The breakfast was not good basic not much to eat like yogurt and cereal. When getting ice at midnight the door got stuck on the floor boards
- Ann (10/5): - .
- Mobile34014689153 (10/5): Old Florida style. - Quiet serenity. Cordial guests. Wonderful saltwater 25 meter lap pool. Nice staff. Excellent bathrooms. Fantastic yoga classes in the ballroom. Old Florida. Don’t expect a loud music party and people shaking their asses around here. Quiet technology rules. Right on the main drag. Great little bar for a cocktail and breakfast bar for morning. Lunch at the club. Pleasant and peaceful recharge.
- Mary (10/5): - It was so unique - staff so so friendly - was a great experience and location was perfect
- vanessa (10/5): - Older hotel but nicely maintained and clean. Nothing fancy but still well done with charm. Nice staff.
- Michael (10/5): - Love it!!
- SHERRI (10/5): Good and Close to Great - Really comfortable bed. Nice fragrant room upon entry. Nice size bathroom. Courteous staff, nice cozy bar. Good size TV for the size of room. Friendly and efficient maid service. Lots of good to great. A couple improvements needed. Better lighting in hallways and better breakfast outlay. Nicer fluffy bathroom rug would be a plus.
- Michael (10/5): - Lovation and such an amazing throughback to 1980 Miami. Loved it.
- Nona (10/5): - Our favorite hotel in America.
- Bob (8/5): Great value - The hotel is a great value! I would only recommend that the staff make sure to tell guests about the option to use the Cabana Club at the beach. We assumed the pool was on property, bt were told it was offsite. We had to look into finding out about the shuttle service offered. This should be staff telling us about the option.
- Angeleta (10/5): It rained but the Hstoric Colony was everything! - Our Holiday Stay, was absolutely amazing the staff from the time we checked in to the time we checked out was kind and helpful. It rained the whole time we were in Delray Beach, but the Colony Hotel, had breakfast, a lovely bar, live music and the best front patio view in town. The Colony is situated right in the middle of downtown Delray Beach close to everything. We look forward to our next stay at the Colony Hotel!
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Absolute perfect location in delray. Hotel is cool older place, well maintained, great vibe, and the staff is amazing. The private beach club puts the place way over the top for me.
- Thomas (6/5): - Rooms small and noisy ie. air conditioner, windows. Historic old hotel well preserved. Nice front porch for sitting. Staff not overly enthusiastic. I mistaking made to bookings for the same date. Did not know this until I arrived. I had been changing dates as there was a possible hurricane. Must have forgotten to cancel one. Non the less because I did not cancel in the appropriate time period the owner would not refund me my deposit. Very disappointing. I had 2 future bookings which I have cancelled and will not return to this hotel. We visit Delray Beach 4-5 times during the winter and was hoping this may be our regular place to stay. Charging the $250 has lost this owner a potential $4000 in business. Perhaps they do not care as the hotel is probably booked in high season.
- Beverly (8/5): - Love the old Florida charm.
- Hugh (8/5): - The beach club makes this hotel a really great deal! Note that the beach club does not appear to have a liquor license. (People mostly brought their own.) The historical hotel itself is located in the very walkable Downtown district and is surrounded by a great assortment of restaurants. The hotel has a very laid back vibe. The only real quirk is the window a/c units in this vintage building. Some folks love the white noise when they are sleeping. Others are bothered by it. For the record, this was about our tenth stay here. We love the hotel with all of its vintage quirks!
- Summer (10/5): - Great stay! Rooms were clean and comfortable, staff were lovely and the history was beautiful. The property is very well kept and close to everything. We stayed at 4 hotels during our trip and this was my partner and I’s favourite.
- heidieP8517KX (10/5): Hotel, beach club AND yoga! - Hotel is wonderful; beach club has everything you need. Hotel is on Atlantic Ave with access to lots of shopping, great restaurants and events at the local park.
The real standout- and it keeps us coming back- daily yoga classes! Hard to improve on this setup!
- Loretta (10/5): - Thank you for changing my room. I got a good nights sleep
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly and accommodating staff
- JENNIFER (10/5): - The property is a Historic Building with lots of character. The lobby rooms are extensive with a bar and a great front porch where music is played on weekends. Our room was clean and comfortable. There is an awesome pool offsite that can be used; it is right on the ocean with changing rooms.
- Daniel (8/5): - Very nice place, albeit very dated. It seems to be well maintained. Like taking a trip back in time.
- Kathryn (10/5): - Location, location, location. Fantastic place to watch Atlantic Ave activities in both am w coffee and at night with beverage and live entertainment. Bartender super sweet. Such a cool vibe. Was there with son and girlfriend and it worked for the 24-54 yr olds in the group! Nice beach facilities. Pool looked nice. Lots of people were there enjoying lunch on a Saturday as regular club members. Wish I knew about this sooner! Will be back.
- James (8/5): - Nice old hotel with a historic swanky vibe. Excellent location, easy to walk around town, cozy bar with night time music on the porch. Rooms are small but part of the old charm. Bath is updated while keeping the old charm. Ride to the beach club was easy, and the club/pool/beach were excellent.
- David (10/5): - Great stay at the historic Colony Hotel. This hotel has a charm to it that is unmatched. Will return soon.
- Jim (10/5): - Nice and quiet
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Great stay!
- Laurence (10/5): - Great old school hotel in a cool area, lots of good restaurants. Fun bar and front porch, decent continental breakfast, but the beach club is the best. Nice pool, great lunch (when open) and the beach is beautiful. Easy ride from the hotel, much better if you have a car.
- Sheila (10/5): - Lovely historic building perfect location
- Mark (10/5): weekend stay - A wonderful old hotel in a great part of town. If you're looking a place in a perfect location to be able to walk to numerous stores, restaurants and bars this is your place. The rooms are basic but very well done.
- Ron (10/5): - Staff made a joke about my attire. Not cool. Other wise excellent experience. All of the other staff was excellent
- dailey (10/5): - Great, as always.
- ericfleck (8/5): Historic Hotel - Had a night getaway with the wife last weekend. We’re locals and have been to Delray many times but never stayed here. Hotel is in a great location and the beach club is great. Hotel is old and too dark for my liking. Had an enjoyable kid free night.
- Martin (8/5): Great old historic inn in a great location - Great old historic inn in a great location
Needs a little sprucing up
- Amy (8/5): - Historical.
- Joseph (10/5): Relax in Delray - Very charming hotel with great accommodations and very friendly service at the hotel and their nearby beach club.
- PHILIP (8/5): - Will stay there again
- Duane (10/5): - Came here to avoid Milton…..price was reasonable and staff was very accommodating ,
Hotel is old, but clean and has and historic charm to it.
Would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Spacious room and bathroom. Súper clean. The older guy at the Front desk wasn’t that helpful….
- Rick (10/5): - Great place to stay, courteous staff, clean, walk to everything, good dollar value.
- Irene (6/5): - Wouldn’t stay again. Room was tiny, bed was so so. Staff was friendly enough. Was ok, not very warm/inviting
- Cynthia (10/5): - Old Florida at it's best. Beautiful old hotel, friendly staff and right in the middle of town.
- William (10/5): - Very cool historic hotel in the middle great shopping and dining.
- Ken and Carla (10/5): - Quaint old hotel. Loved the ambiance
- susan (10/5): - I love historical hotels and always spread the word when I find a jewel like The Coloney in Del Rey, Florida. Have to mention the world class Cabana Beach Club pool which is not directly connected to the hotel but a family owned part of the hotel, and so worth the few minutes drive to get there.
- Jane (8/5): Our go to place in Delray Beach - Colony Hotel is in a great location - easy walk to the beach and all the restaurants. There is a comfortable front porch to sit and enjoy a drink or read. Breakfast is continental and basic, they do not have a restaurant. Free shuttle to the country club with private beach and pool with free umbrellas and chairs provided
- Joseph (4/5): - No trashcan, no mini fridge, old tv, weird blanket, no convenient outlets. Great location though. Bare minimum hotel
- Susanne Sanchez (10/5): - Love the style of the hotels it transports you into the old days, The hotel is very well maintained, Breakfast was not what I expected for a place like this but plenty of options around. Loved the atmosphere, we always admired the place when we lived in the area, and always talked about staying there one day. And here we are for our 30 th Wedding anniversary did not disappoint, loved the breach club.
- JENNIFER (10/5): - The property is in a great location; you can walk to stores, restaurants, bars, and art galleries. The room was clean and quiet. Parking was behind the hotel. The pool is not on sight, but a short drive away. It is great; the good sized pool is on the ocean surrounded by palm trees. There is a bar there, changing area and easy parking.
- Steve and Kelly (10/5): - The only thing about this place is they charge 30.00 per person to have guests at the pool which is outrageous ! When you come to Delray to visit family and then they ask for you to pay 30.00 per guest. Ridiculous !
- Karla (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay and loved the beach and cabana club !
- Mark (6/5): - The property is certainly dated going back to 1926. Anyone looking for today’s room amenities such as coffee maker, microwave, etc. it’s not there. The morning continental breakfast is slim..fruit salad, 1 type of cereal, muffins, juice, coffee. There is no ramp whether bringing bags in the front door or back door (free parking lot) - it was challenging. Each room has a window style air conditioner and some rooms have a step up to the bathroom. Refrigerators are available for an xtra fee.
The staff was very nice and accommodating. If you like the old charm of yesteryear then this hotel is for you.
- Marcia (8/5): - The staff was so friendly and kind. The bathroom update was extremely nice. The room was nice, but no mini refrigerator. The interior of the building could use a little better lighting/cheery updates. Parking was easy. I thought the pool was on site, but it is 1.5 miles away. Very nice beach, gorgeous pool.
- Lance (8/5): - Great hotel lots of character as a historic landmark
- Maureen (10/5): - The property is in a great location - you can walk to all the restaurants, shops, etc. Love sitting on the porch listening to music and people watching. The Continental breakfast was yummy and just enough. The only downside is there is no pool at the property, you have to drive to another property for the pool.
