Guest Reviews
- Bob (8/5): - I was pretty happy with my room. It was a little small, but it had everything space wise that I needed. It was on the outer side of the hotel which meant I had a deck which was nice. Some rooms are on the inside with no windows and wouldn’t be as nice. The only issues were hot water. Usually it was cold or Luke warm. On the last night it was finally hot. Only other issue was the TV. Stopped working one night but the desk attendant managed to get it going. Only other issue was a lot of the channels especially sports were garbled up and not watchable. Hotel location is great. Tons of restaurants, supermarket almost next door and lots of shopping spots. For the price it was a good value.
- Germain (10/5): - Muy bien, Gracias a Sras Antonia, Alicia y Maria !
- Germain (8/5): - Bien ubicada !
- Osmel (8/5): - Muy trankilo
- John (6/5): - Ok for the price. Next to restaurant's and bus services. Noisy all day and night
- sukhwinder singh (10/5): - Nice place
- Eléctrico (8/5): - Ninguna
- Monique (2/5): - They publish we can arrive after 3PM until 2:30 AM but they were closed and want to charge me!
- JATINDER (10/5): - that is really enjoyful place
- Komal (2/5): - The location is good but the room and Hotel were not upto the mark for price.
- Room and bathroom was not clean and not in good shape.
-Locker was not working.
-No Towels were provided
- Only positive part was location.
- YIBIN (8/5): - The hotel is worth its cost if you are shoes
- Manuel (10/5): - .
- YAHAIRA R (6/5): PRECIO CALIDAD - EN RELACION CALIDAD - PRECIO ESTUVO BIEN
- Cristino (8/5): - Muy bien
- Bruce (10/5): - A fine location if you're going to use the ADO bus. Nothing fancy, but great for short stays.
- Simón (6/5): - Accesible
- William (6/5): - Location was great. Didn't like the ants in the bed. The place is in need of a revamp. Staff could be a little more caring.
- Kathryn (4/5): - Average room, great air conditioning and location. Only warning is the old men that work there WILL stare at you inappropriately if you’re a women. Every time they were in the lobby they would be looking at my chest and making me feel uncomfortable. Maybe don’t stay here if this type of stuff makes you uncomfortable. Especially as you’re paying for a service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location
- Juan (8/5): - Buen servicio y buena ubicación
- Jeffrey (8/5): - good location
- Ceceile (6/5): - It is a place to take a shower and rest up. Plenty of places to eat and activities around the hotel. Transportation available all the time.
- Frank (10/5): A nice place to land for the night. - Nice little hotel. Friendly front clerk. He helped us with our bags, up to the second floor, which felt like the third floor. Clean room, no wifi to speak of, even with the password. The bed was extremely hard. Didn't sleep great. Clean bathroom, nice shower Further from the Centro bus station than indicated on the website. Decent value for the money
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location and the shower had hot water which was important to me.
- sharon (6/5): Ok for one night - Stayed overnight in Cancún last minute as our flight was delayed and we missed our connection. Pretty basic hotel but decent enough for one night. Quick, easy check in. Beds were comfortable enough. There is AC but we didn’t use it as the fan was cool enough. Good location right next to a Chedraui supermarket and easy walking to various bars and restaurants. Not bad for what we paid
- william (8/5): - Central
- Verified traveler (6/5): - the location is great, it is close to the bus terminal, grocery stores, restaurants, local transportation. The area seemed very safe as well.
What I did not like where the rooms, however, if you are just looking for a place to stay as you will be out on tours all day, it can make sense.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location and good customer service.
- Johnny (10/5): - Enjoy stays here 😊.
- Johnny (10/5): - Home away from home 😊.
- Mooi (10/5): - Always happy to stay in this hotel.
- Oswald A. (8/5): Good low budget friendly hotel. - Good low budget friendly hotel in the heart of downtown Cancun. Good housekeeping, friendly staff, good restaurants nearby, plenty of hot water with good pressure, close to ADO bus terminal, and public transportation right outside. If you’re looking to save $, and enjoy Cancun, Isla Mujeres, playa del Carmen and even Cazumel, I highly recommend this hotel.
- Alexander (6/5): Return customer - This hotel is providing outstanding value for your dollar. It is clearly “No Frills”. However, it is located right downtown in the heart of Cancun. This was my second stay at this Hotel and I will more than likely book it again as long as the price remains the same.
- Alexander (6/5): So-so ... - For a last second hotel booking this Hotel room was ok. Unfortunately, I arrived right during the Independence day celebration and the hotel was not easy to reach, as the Streets were all blocked off in the area.
About the Hotel: The staff were friendly, ...however, the hotel does not have an elevator and it was quite hot. The room smelled bad, but the bed had fresh sheets on and bathroom was fairly clean.
For the price I paid, I am NOT complaining.
- Ove (10/5): - Nice location friendly recepction good price wi fi
- TravelingEd (6/5): a useful refuge - I needed to speak Spanish to deal with the clerk, finding out that his credit card machine wasn't working, but he was as helpful as he could be. The room is basic, but things worked and the air con was quiet and efficient. The location is excellent if you want to explore central Cancun. A great choice for a seasoned traveler, not good for a novice. But the price was great.
- Doug (6/5): - 1 day stay aok ,not a long term stay hotel ,everything works ,but worn out hotel ,could find better if staying in cancun beyond clse to bus depot
- easeri (4/5): not recommended - Really bad neighborhood. Lots of vandalism and graffiti right around the hotel. Nightclub right across the street that was very loud all night. Room was outdated and smelled musty. We couldn’t get any hot water. No parking for guests. We parked on the street right outside the hotel’s front door and our car was broken into. Do not try to save money by staying here. Find another downtown hotel.
- glen (8/5): Good basic lodgings - Good for an overnight, Noisy
- Verified traveler (4/5): Good location, but won’t stay there again - No hot water in the room. A friend was coming up to say hi, but he had to pay 100 pesos (even though he was not staying)!
- Oswald A. (10/5): Good place to stay at an affordable price! - I like this hotel a lot, it’s in the heart of downtown, very clean and affordable, close to transportation and in a safe area
- Wendy (8/5): Location is good. - I took a couple day trip and like the closeness of bus stop ADO.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No real parking unless you dont mind leaving it on the streets in front of the hotel where its really busy. There is bar/restaurant beside the front desk so that can be handy.
- Hector H (8/5): Acceptable - It was perfect for me. I just need a room with good air conditioner and a decent bed and bathroom Very inexpensive.righ in the center of downtown Cancun
- Dee (8/5): Spacious room, over priced tours - Spacious room. Clean and tidy. Hot showers. 8-10 mins walk Ados bus station, good location. Reasonable price for room. Exuberant and super pricy tour packages. I was double charged for a tour which cost half the price. Very disappointing. Be careful when booking tours from the hotel because the information given may not be true. Check and compare price with other vendors as you get better bargain with the same quality and service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Location - Located close to bus depot stores and restaurants. Fast check in and check out.
Rooms older but weLL kept. I would return here.
- Chris (8/5): Good value and location. - I checked in at 3pm on Superbowl Sunday. My tv was not working. The manager came and replaced the tv. Atlanta was ahead 28 to 9 so I turned off the tv and went to the Congo Club. Next morning I find out New England won 34 to 28!! This hotel is close to the Chedrauia store and the Ruta 1 bus stops right in front of the hotel. Each room has a safe which gave me peace of mind. The staff is friendly. Also, one place at nearby Parque Palapas had dinners for 50 pesos. A big plate of bistec mexicana. Quite the bargain!
- Gordon (6/5): 1 nite stay in Cancun. fly in one nite fly out the - Good inexpensive hotel for one night stay. would recommend for a night stay. in town. no phone, plenty of hot water, clean not for a picky person who wants luxury. but good for night and be with locals. other hotels in on same street and restaurants lots of small and larger shopping on same street. is pretty quite. Would recommend as a good nite stay
- davin (8/5): - Only problem was the TV but wasn't in the room a lot to watch it. Buses from this spot to the bars like coco bongo were under a dollar and fast
- Stanley (10/5): convenient and clean hotel - very good and friendly and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (2/5): this is a hole in d wall - awful
- nicole (6/5): Great budget hotel - Not a modern hotel but they keep it extremely clean and nothing was broken. Beds were comfortable and sheets were clean. No bugs and pretty quiet even tho we stayed on a busy Friday night
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good budget choice in Centri - If you're stating in Cancun - the city, not the beach - this is a low cost option. No frills, but the room was larger than I expected for the price. Easy access to transportation to the hotel zone and a short walk from the bus station.
- Vojtech (8/5): small and friendly hotel - Simple room. Clean with access to town. Close to ADO bus terminal. Safe with helpful staff. I would stay there again.
- Giancarlo (8/5): Clean and good internet connection - Aircon, Internet and furniture in good conditions. It's necessary to wait a little bit for hot water but it's okay. It's on safe area and near by restaurants.
- Ely (10/5): ALL clean and nice staff - My flight was delayed 8 hours and I taught I was not able to get to the hotel room, but the staff was nice and understood my situation. They gave me a nice suite and I was able to sleep that night after a very stressful day (10 hours waiting at the airport for my flight)...
- Chris (10/5): Convenient Location - This hotel was 150 feet away from a Chedruai grocery store, 40 feet away from the Ruta 1 bus stop, and three blocks away from the ADO bus station. I liked the fact that there was an easy to use safe in the room. The staff was friendly. The lobby price was 600 pesos per night for a single but using Hotels.com I paid just 470 pesos per night!! Good value.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location with everything you need - Great location, cleanliness, great internet, new and quiet A/C
- pejman (6/5): Nice hotel in this price - Location in down town near bus station and can go every where
- Martin (6/5): Good "No-Frills" Choice - I just needed a clean, simple, convenient place to sleep and refresh after 3 flights, before heading south to Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. I was also curious about the city of Cancun itself, as I had never been there. This hotel served the purpose very well. It was quiet, in spite of being on a busy street, and I slept well on the comfortable bed. The A/C, shower, sink, and toilet worked fine. The staff was clearly tuned into providing what travellers in my situation need, not pretending to be a resort, filling their no-frills niche well. There is a supermarket close by, at least a couple of ATMs, and a few restaurants; I tried the Chinese place right next door-- it was very good and inexpensive. The ADO bus terminal is not far, also (3-4 blocks.) I'd definitely stay there again for a night or two when passing through the area.
- Not Provided (10/5): Great value for a budget hotel - I spent 4 nights as a solo traveler at this hotel, and I felt like the value was very good. They are a budget hotel, and their rooms are simple, but they were very clean, spacious, and the location was nice and safe. Negatives - Water pressure was a bit spotty for 1 night, but worked fine eventually. No elevators, fine with me but possible concern for elderly. No in room fridge or microwave available, but they do allow you to use the lobby fridge. You might hear some bus noise in room due to location, but it wasn't loud or distracting really. I already knew about most of the negatives before booking so it wasn't a big deal to me. Positives - They are located on a major avenue, and there is a bus stop right outside that will take you to all the major attractions for about 60 cents USD a bus ride. If you want to walk, they are within 15-20 mins walking distance of many popular local destinations (walmart/mercado 28/mercado 23). There are souvenir shops across the avenue, and convenience stores within 2 streets. Food, I recommend going to Parque de las Palapas about 4 streets away. It is where the locals eat, and you can get many delicious meals for 25-50 pesos or about $1.50-3 dollars USD. The staff is friendly also, and I will likely stay again in the future. Good place for people who want no unnecessary frills, be near everything, and can handle any downsides of a budget hotel.
- Mike (8/5): Decent hotel, low price - I stayed here for three nights while in Cancun.
It's a very basic hotel. Nothing fancy. I slept well. The beds were comfy enough. The AC worked really well. My room was clean, including the bathroom.
It's in a decent part of town. I felt safe the whole time I was there. There's a supermarket about a minute's walk away. Plenty of decent restaurants nearby (2 or three minute walk) and some really good ones within a 5 to 10 minute walk. You can get to the hotel zone by getting on the R1 bus right in front of the hotel. Palapas park is nearby.
- alla (8/5): Great for the money - Great hotel for money. The cheapest from good ones. Old but clean, not on the beach but easy access to everywhere.
- Gordon (10/5): Plain but comfortable - Hotel Rivemar is right on Avenida Tulum, but I did not notice any excessive noise. The hotel is pretty stark (looks like school hallways) and showing its age, but is clean and the rooms are large. For the price, it was more than I could have hoped for.
- Mario (10/5): - Very excellent stay!
- garzajm (4/5): Room type Triple Room is actually Triple Beds - We were looking for a suite with 3 rooms. The room type says 3 room, but it was actually 3 beds. The shower windows had no screens. The hotel entrance is VERY small, it is near a pharmacy on the corner called Similares. It was a quite hotel. The location was great because the Chedraui was on the corner, and there were restaurants across the street. The bus that goes to the Hotel Zone goes right by as well
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good value - This place seems seedy at first, but the man at the front desk assured me that it was safe. The front door is always locked, and there is someone at the desk 24 hours to let people in and out. The Wi-Fi worked, the room was clean, and there was air conditioning and free parking out front. For less than $25 a night, this is an amazing deal! I only needed it for one night, so the lack of luxury, decor, and amenities was not at all an issue.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great value budget hotel - A nicely run small hotel and good value for money. The room is pretty rustic, but clean and functional. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room also had a balcony. Not much of a view, but a nice way to relax or just hide from the sun. Only complaint is the noise from the AC, which intermittently sounds lije a car struggling to start.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Glad to have stayed at Hotel Rivemar. - A well run small family friendly hotel with quality service.
- Kelli (4/5): Convenient, humble home base - Convenient. Quiet room in the back, away from street. Nice staff. Close to store (Chedraui). Fair for the cost.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice, cheap option in Cancun Center - I flew into Cancun in the evening and had an early bus to catch in the morning, so I stayed here because it was well reviewed and near the bus station. It was perfect. When I checked in I was given lots of information about arranging my bus travel, finding a grocery store and atm, and things to do nearby. It would have been easy to catch a bus to the beaches from the hotel, if I'd had the energy. There is lots of eating and activity nearby, but nicely not full of tourists. My room was completely adequate - clean and had everything I needed. Traveling alone, I felt very safe in the area and in the hotel and had a restful night. I would easily stay here again. The price can't be beat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): clean basic cheap - clean basic and cheap hotel, close to central ADO bus station
- Mark (8/5): Best Low Budget Hotel in Cancun Centro! - Overall i can’t really complain too much with my stay at Hotel Rivemar. The only few negatives were the fact that because my room was on the Main Street (noisy at night) and in the far corner i was unable to get Wifi in my room? It wasn’t a huge issue because all i needed to do was walk ten meters outside of my room where i could pick up the router, however maybe one day this will be rectified? The staff are really nice and friendly especially the young girl who works on reception (good looking too haha) and Alex is cool. On the whole this Hotel is very nice and in great location close to the supermarket, bus station and local restaraunts. I plan to return to Cancun in a week or so and i will definitely stay there again :)
- business man (6/5): An economie hotel - Expedia should be more explicit when you do the reservation, that you will be paying down there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic but very good - Excellent value, large very simple clean rooms. Basic bathroom but worked all right. Location is great in Cancun town just 5 minutes from lively plaza. Easy to park opposite hotel on main road. Owner was friendly.
- Susan (8/5): Easy walk from bus station - Clean, spartan rooms with Internet and TV at a reasonable rate. I expected less for what I was paying and was pleasantly surprised.
- Sue (10/5): Nice, clean, quiet - Quietest place I've ever stayed in cancun. Neighbourhood has everything.
I'll go back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not bad at all, but would consider other options. - This place has a great location. It's about 5 minutes walking from the ADO station, and there is a supermarket, ATMS, Las Quekas, several food options, stores, etc. on this block. The R1 bus goes right by it. However, the hotel itself is meh. The room was nice enough, the bed was comfortable, the shower was nice and it had a really powerful fan. Some of the furnishings were a little run down. The wifi worked GREAT. The staff was a little weird because no one could find that I made an online reservation with hotels.com. If you do stay here, print off at least two copies to show you made an online booking when you check in, and to show when you leave so you're not charged the standard rate. Whenever you leave, you have to leave your room key at the hotel. The staff didn't know which hotel guest stayed at which room, so honestly, you could point to any key and get access in the box. If I had a choice, I would probably select a different hotel since there are so many on that block alone.
- Dave (6/5): Canada-Dave - It was nice for the price. Good location, helpful staff. I would reckamend it to anyone on a budget.
- katrine (8/5): Would go back - Very friendly, helpfull staff and owner. The hotel is well located, very close to ADO. Modest but everything you need. Clean. Good value for the price!
- Paul C (8/5): Downtown and safe - The hotel is undergoing some repairs. If you compare this to the resort hotels, then you have to consider the price. That is why I rated it so high. I keep in mind that this is in Mexico. Compared to other hotels I have stayed at in Mexico I felt very safe in the hotel and the surrounding neighborhood. There are patio restaurants right across the street. We sat out some nights until 2 or 3 am eating and drinking and there were always people walking by. There are many police that patrol the area and they are actually friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, air conditioned, and the staff was courteous. There are security guards 24hrs.
- Jack (2/5): The Good, the Bad and the UGLY - close to the ADO bus station as I had an early morning airport departure and needed to take the first bus to the airport. Check in was easy, payment is expected at check in. The Good- Location is on Avenida Tulum,. Easy 10 min. walk to ADO bus station. Room was clean with tile floor. Room has a quiet mini- split A/C but it struggled to fully cool the room. Bedding was firm but comfortable. TV is fine. Did not use WiFi. A supermarket is a 3 min. walk south on Tulum The Bad- the room was plain and bare. Bathroom was serviceable but it takes a long time for hot water.. Some rooms were being renovated, with work continuing until 8:00. The UGLY- I left my room at 4:10am.. At check-in I was told there was always an attendant at the front desk, but not so at that time. I dropped by key and TV remote on the front desk and proceeded on my way. The front door was LOCKED. My room key would not open it, nor was there emergency hardware "crash bar". I raised my voice requesting assistance, and after several frantic minutes a security guard came downstairs and let me out. Perhaps he was checking other areas, maybe taking a snooze, but he was NOT at the front desk This hotel fails my requirements for safety and I cannot recommend it. Without this departure incident, I would rate it a 2.5 for a budget hotel. For safety reasons, Rivemar needs to change this practice IMMEDIATELY For their first review, this is not good.
