Guest Reviews
- Philippe-Olivier (4/5): - We killed about 60 ants in the room and there was a lizard to. There was two wasp nest on the balcony. We could not change the beach towels for our 5 days stay. We had to reserve at the restaurant because if we do not they do not call the chef to make the food. We had the family loft.
- Lisa (8/5): - Staff were lovely. Room and hotel were clean.
- Coralia (10/5): - Espectacular
- Dana (10/5): - The owner is often on site, checks in with you, offers suggestions. Food and drinks were really great. Pool large and good depth.
- Adrian (10/5): - Small hotel just to rest after spending all day on the beach or touring. The breakfast is very good!! And the staff is awesome. Definitely will come back.
- Ana Isabel (10/5): Hotel recomendado - Buenisimo. Excelente servicio y trato del personal. Habitaciones grandes y limpias. Cama muy còmoda. Desayuno variado y muy rico. Piscina muy agradable con un nivel adecuado. Playa cercana con un mar tranquilo y muy agradable para bañarse
- Serge (8/5): - Très bien
- Jan (10/5): - Enorm fijn personeel
Betrokkenheid en vriendelijkheid.
Luz, Loyda, Lenna, Alexandra, Toppers🏆
- CYRIL (10/5): - Loved our check in attendant. She walked us to our room, taught us everything we needed to know. Pleasant, charming, fun … put the four of us in a positive mood.
- Juergen (10/5): - Sehr geräumiges Zimmer mit Kühlschrank.
Gutes Bett und gute Klimaanlage. Personal sehr nett.
Frühstück gut wenn man zeitig dran ist - wird nicht mehr aufgefüllt. Restaurantpreise deutlich über Landesdurchschnitt aber gut.
Würden hier nocheinmal buchen.
- Robert (10/5): Loved It!! - This place was amazing from the second we arrived. Staff person checking us in was polite, accommodating and made you feel like you were best friends. Because it’s a smaller hotel, we got to know all of the staff and they couldn’t have been nicer people! On site parking was easy. Location was quiet except for some road noise. Walking to Playa Samara beach was convenient and took less than 10 minutes down a dirt road. Room was large with a separate foyer area that had a sink and mini fridge. Pool is nice. Breakfast was good as were the drinks. We did not eat lunch or dinner so can’t comment on that. Three minute drive to Playa Carrillo - which is an amazing beach. Seven minute drive to downtown Samara. Nothing negative to say about this place - check it out!
- Naomi (8/5): - This is a decent option for staying in/near Samara. Bear in mind it is a five-six minute drive to town/main beach stretch. The staff were excellent, particularly Loydes, who was so genuine and helpful. The pool is great for kids. Bathroom was a bit dated and moldy unfortunately. Included breakfast was nice and appreciated.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean and Comfortable. - An older resort that was spectacular when it was new. No it’s clean and comfortable for the reasonable price with a good breakfast.
- Roxanne (10/5): - I stayed at this property in November 2024. Mario, the owner is friendly and accommodating. All the staff were beyond amazing. Cute little boutique hotel. Loved it. Can’t say anything negative about it.
- Terri (10/5): Nice place. Beautiful garden - Very nice Boutique hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast was good.
- kelly (10/5): - Magical place and great staff and restaurant
- Gregory H (10/5): - Nice property with friendly staff and excellent pool. We were not affected on the north side of the first floor but could see how some rooms on the 2nd floor on the south side could be bothered by road noise.
- Oliver (10/5): - Luis was very nice. Great place overall.
- Richard (6/5): - Stunning coast but Average stay. Requires a hire car or you will be a captive as walking to beach or township (7km) on the busy road outside the property not recommended. The staff overall were polite / effective but the front desk in particular seemed challenged and a poor communicator in English on local advice but was a willing booking agency. Good pool / nice garden. Comfy bed but room & bathroom v tired: shower emitted constant odour. Tired entry. All suggest under-investment pre/post covid. In-room Coffee machine had 1 capsule on arrival and the few we got after many asks we then paid for on check out: no issue with that, but not clear at outset or explained by front desk when we asked (BTW Capsules were Not an issue at 2 other hotels in CR). Empty mini bar. The gardener burned off in the perimeter of hotel on 2 locations in one day, causing toxic smoke to foul the air across the hotel and pool area, so we departed the premises on both occasions. Shame on management. No instructions in room for anything including satellite TV and even that was only set up in Spanish (no English channels) and when we asked the front desk to explain it he did not know so explained it badly so TV limited to streaming. Given the cost, its Service levels were acceptable but limited due to low staff numbers: Food menu OK but not cheap and the “specials” board did not change while there and no incentive or events like happy hour to stay and drink / eat meals so went elsewhere. Underwhelmed.
- Arash (10/5): - The property is clean and very quiet. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The manager Luis, was a pleasure to talk with. Good breakfast, pool was a good option when we got tired of the ocean.
- Laura (10/5): - The hotel was beautiful and very relaxing. The staff were extremely helpful and our check in and early arrival was accommodated with a relaxing drink by the pool and a swim in the wonderful pool. The Hotel grounds are beautiful.
- Kim (6/5): - friendly staff, property is on a main road that is very noisy - poor sleeping conditions. Across a main road to get to beach. You need to drive.
- Soledad (10/5): Perfect getaway boutique hotel - Nice and quiet small boutique hotel.
Great authentic Italian food and calm atmosphere.
Great location and amazing staff.
- Marlene (10/5): - My husband and I had a wonderful time at Montelaguna and I absolutely hope to return. The property was very charming and well decorated with a relaxed atmosphere and all the conveniences we would want. The meals were so good that we rarely ate anywhere else -- well prepared and reasonably priced. The staff were ALWAYS pleasant and helpful. They made a great mojito. The pool was great to cool down on a hot day. The only hiccup we ran into was that it took about a day to figure out the quickest way to walk to the beach. But once we figured it out, the location was PERFECT because it was peaceful and just a little bit off the grid, but with easy access to the touristy town of Samara Beach (which was also kind of cool in its own way.) And the staff calls taxis for you at any time of day or night. So, for what I like (charm, quiet, good food, nice people, reasonable prices, proximity to a gorgeous and largely unspoiled beach), this property gets five stars in my book.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Montelaguna was a really perfect stay for us in the Samara area. It was perfectly situated between Playa Carrillo and Playa Samara so we were able to enjoy both beaches easily. The staff were always ready and kindly booked tours, accommodated special requests and were just a pleasure to deal with day to day. The housekeeping was prompt and thorough as well. We would stay here again no question.
- Mary (10/5): - Gorgeous pool, delicious Italian food and wine and lovely staff. Zenia and crew went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. We’ll be back !!!
- Jamie (10/5): - Lovely little oasis, great Italian wine and food, Xenia and staff are wonderful, we’ll be back!
- Sheila (10/5): - Was a little worried at first that the hotel is a few km away from Samara town, but ended up being very happy the property is walking distance to two incredible beaches, Samara and Carrillo. Terrific staff, good food, spacious room, nice pool area. Only 17 rooms so quiet, intimate environment. Met and enjoyed company with several of the other guests.
- linda (10/5): Wonderful Hotel - This was our second stay at this hotel and it was just as we remembered. Friendly, helpful staff. Walking distance to two beautiful beaches and a quiet, peaceful setting. The rooms are large but sparse. The staff was prompt in getting whatever we requested. They even made decaf coffee especially for me in the mornings!
The only thing I could say for me personally and maybe for others is the cleaner used to wash the floors in the rooms was too strongly scented and lingered in the room.
We will definitely be returning for another wonderful stay.
Thank you
- Evan (10/5): - Quiet, well-set grounds of the place, a short distance from 2 of the best beaches in the country
- Janaina (10/5): - Simply amazing. The hotel is spotless, nice pool, family friendly close to beaches.
I will definitely come back, Luis and Xinia made this stay wayyy better. They are professionals and so lovely. Thank you 🙏
- ELLEN (10/5): - Everyone is supper nice
- kenneth (6/5): Not the best experience! - Very small hotel, one pool, room was nice but overall disappointed for a few reasons. Hotel away from town, nothing close by to walk to in evening for entertainment or restaurants. When we arrived, we were told of the many adventures they offered. We saw a sign on the desk and could see it was for $40 massages. We inquired about having a massage but were told they no longer had a massage person but would call and see if one could be arranged. She took the sign and turned it over so we couldn't see it any longer. When we asked about the price she said it would be around $50-55. She also asked if we wanted it done at the hotel. After her call, she told us we would have to drive to the location and the price would be $80. Next, we booked a night outing to see turtles come up to lay eggs. Later was told the operator required a min. of 6 people to do the trip, so never happened. But the worse thing was the owner manager who was very controlling and condescending. The owner served our breakfast but right from the start, he basically lectured me on how not to raise the glass to be served juice. I did it to be helpful, but he was so condescending in his "how to do' lecture. That I finally said to him "if this was a fine dining experience, I would not have touched the glass". He was real off putting and insulting. Very controlling personality, we had a few other things happen which I can't explain bec. of limited space allowed. Not recommend!
- Kaylee (10/5): - Clean property and wonderful, attentive staff.
- Tisha (10/5): - Louis was super friendly and welcoming! We ended up staying a second night and that seems to be the norm there. You show up for one and stay longer.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very nice staff, but hotel is in major need of renovations. Lots of noise from very nearby road.
- XENOFON (8/5): Lovely place but a noisy - The place would deserve higher rating since the staff was amazing and super helpful, room was nice and bed comfortable. But the bar / restaurant had music on from early morning to late night which was disturbing as our window faced that side. Also A/C from next door room was super loud in the night and the sound did carry through the wall. We could hear the traffic from the road too. We booked room with balcony or patio but we had only window. Other than that it is a lovely convenient intimate secluded hotel with great location for easy access to beaches and restaurants. Beach towels on demand. They helped us to find sunset boat tour too.
- Tricia (10/5): - Perfecto!
The only thing missing is morning espresso.
- Tricia (10/5): - Luis, Julio, and Mateo are fabulous. We extended our stay because of them, the facilities, the location. The food is 5 stars. The white fish carpaccio — amazing!!!!!
- Carlos (10/5): - Great place to stay!
- Holly (10/5): - Montelaguna was a beautiful, private getaway. The room was very clean, and very comfortable. The service was excellent.
We really loved the pool, the personality of the staff, and how close it was to both the Samara beach, and Carrillio beach.
Thanks Mario, we really enjoyed our stay here! We will be back. :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a great place to stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved this place, definitely will stay again, no doubt.
Hermoso lugar, volveré de nuevo, no hay duda.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property is located about 1/2 between Playa Samara and Playa Carillo, both beautiful beaches that are perfect is if you want to get away from the commercial crowd of places like Tamarindo. The best part about this hotel was the staff. The host at the front desk took care of everything I needed, booked a surf lesson for me, and came to my room to share all the information he had received from the outfits that he contacted. The staff at breakfast served a nice spread of fruit, eggs, pintos (Costa Rican seasoned rice and beans...mmm), toast, juice, and coffee.
Now for the not so hot. While I've been to Costa Rica in the past and understand that bugs are completely unavoidable, add to the experience, and are most certainly in most rooms, I didn't expect to find some in my bed. I attribute this to the room being turned and then sitting for an extended period of time between occupancy due to covid and a decreased volume of tourists. The shower smelled a bit, likely due to an old shower curtain, the amenities are what I'd expect for a $72/night hotel. mini bar soap, large costco sized bottle of liquid hand soap, and scratchy towels.
The grounds were very well kept, and pretty. it was secluded and quiet, and I want to emphasize that the staff were some of the friendliest that I experienced on my trip through three locations in CR.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A very pleasant stay - All in All it was very nice, great bed...nice and clean, breakfast was delicious. Pool was good too.
- Timothy (10/5): Great stay near Samara Costa Rica - It was a very nice hotel. We enjoyed the pool and the breakfast was delicious. Due to the Covid we had the hotel to ourselves
- Debby (8/5): - Buen servicio, buena ubicación pues se encuentra a distancia caminable a Playa Carrillo y en carro a Playa Sámara. Recomiendo llevar cafetera para tomar café en el cuarto. Ambiente agradable.
- Jared (10/5): Pure excellence - Our stay was amazing! The room was great, the pool was clean and comfortable, the staff were the best you could ever ask for, and the food was excellent. I would recommend this to anyone! I cannot stress enough how wonderful the staff was including the manager(who’s name I have sadly forgotten) and Vladimir the host.
- Michael (10/5): - Nice pool. Close to carillo beach and samara beach. I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful location between two walkable beaches. Poor lighting in rooms. Impossible to read in bed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property is well laid out, for a relaxed, breezy atmosphere. Decent pool. Rooms are bright, pleasant, bathroom is clean with awkward toilet location. Walking distance to 2 great beaches. 45 min, to Samara which is action central and 10 minutes to Carillo, beautiful & often deserted. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful staff and service. Food was excellent!! So close to our favourite beach Carrillo. We will be back
- Elaine (8/5): - It’s a lovely older property outside of Samara. A shuttle would be a nice addition. The staff are kind, generous and lovely. The pool is delightful and the rooms spacious. The food is quite good! It was nice to be away from the “bustle” of Samara. We rented an electric golf cart to get around. It was a hoot and captured pura vida perfectly!
- Scott (10/5): - The hotel staff were awesome. It's a very comfortable small hotel where you get to know the other guests.
The pool is very clean, refreshing and nice.
Very close to the best beach in Samara, which is Carrillo.
Luis the restaurant manager is a gem. The breakfast buffet is good.
This is a great place to relax, or be a base of operations for your adventures.
- Patlaval (10/5): - Great location, great pool only 5 minutes walk to a very nice beach. Good breakfast. Very quiet place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a quick business trip in Samara. Room was impeccable, property well kept. Pool seem nice. Do not expect a large resort but pretty nice starting point for adventures in Samara, Carrillo, Nosara and Camaronal.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean safe well appointed with an excellent staff that really aims to help our guests in whatever way needed.
- Dawn (10/5): Hidden oasis. - Montelaguna hotel appears to be a newer hotel. The grounds are very nicely kept, the rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. The pool is a good size and the breakfast buffet is very nice with lots of options. Carrillo beach is a short distance away and the town of Samara and Samara beach is about a 5 minute drive away. The only recommendations I would make is to have a chair in the room by the desk and a coffee maker.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel has beautiful landscape and a very nice pool. The rooms are clean and have very comfortable beds. The staff is super nice and accommodating.
- Robert (10/5): - Exceptional place
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great place to stay - The staff were so helpful and nice. They helped us tour plans and directions. Nice pool. Could walk to Sámara and Carillo beaches
- Verified traveler (10/5): - When you return to a hotel you enjoy, it has to be great. This was our second visit to Montelaguna Boutique Hotel. The room overlooked the garden loaded with mango trees and holler monkeys. My wife loves the baby monkeys. A short ride from the hotel to Playa Carrillo, a long search of quiet space lined with coconut palms will also soothe the soul.
Extremely relaxing after a delicious gourmet dinner cooked to perfection. Try to tuna tartare, you will also enjoy the breakfast. I will return!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - In comparison to other hotels in the area, this one was in a great price range (not too expensive, not super-cheap) but was also one of the prettiest in terms of the room, bed, bathroom, mood and design.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the location within easy walking distance to Playa Carrillo a wonderful beach. A very short drive or taxi to Samara. We found location very peaceful accessible to all the beaches etc. The property is well maintained and we had several excellent meal at the restaurant. Would definitely stay there again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent location. Walk to the beautiful Playa Carrillo in 10 minutes. Landscaping is meticulous. Excellent staff. Only criticism is minimalistic rooms. No phones or lamps and tiny TV. Not a big deal though. Food was ok for breakfast but excellent for the one dinner we had at the resort.
- Sherry (8/5): Our recent stay - The room was kind of stark. Bed, bath, 1 folding chair. The location was convenient to the beach. It was a little far from the downtown area (restaurants, bars, shopping). Luz and Elenca at the front desk were great. Full of information. Jacob and Luis at the restaurant were wonderful. Very good service. The only problem we did have was a lack of hot water for showers Half way through our stay. Otherwise, the staff was great. The location was good for the beach. The food at the restaurant was good. The room was adequate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was peaceful and quiet. Lovely staff. Close to Playa Carillo.
- Scott (10/5): - Beautiful property and great service. Close to two amazing beaches. Free breakfast and hotel restaurant was very good for dinner.
- James (8/5): Very pleasant stay... - Excellent, friendly staff and very accommodating manager...nice buffet breakfast with very good fruit options as well as eggs, rice/beans, etc. Pleasant pool on site and great beaches within walking distance. Our room with a balcony provided nice air flow when we didn't want to use the cooling system. All in all, a very pleasant stay...
- Brenda (10/5): Tranquility in Samara - We recently spent 3 nights at the Montelaguna Boutique Hotel and were very happy with the accommodations and service provided. Our room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The grounds were beautifully kept with a relaxing pool to enjoy.
Breakfast was tasty and the service was alway prompt to any needs. Luis was always there to answer any questions, give advice, and just help make your stay as comfortable as possible.
With my husband being a writer, I would say it was the perfect place for us. The Montelaguna has a classy, but serene atmosphere to wind down after a day at the beach, or exploring the beautiful area around Samara.
We most definitely will return ...
Pura Vida, Brenda / NYC
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and wonderfully warm hosts.
- James (10/5): Great Spot in Samara - Excellent value! Comfortable room for whole family. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Be sure to have dinner of fresh fish in the restaurant. It is literally right off the boat!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice stay - Nice little hotel, great staff, very good location, confortable, excellent for family vacation.
- cat (10/5): Amazing hotel! - I read the other reviews and we were not sure what to expect. However, this hotel was beyond our expectations. Staff were so nice. The family room was large with enough beds for all 5 of us. The pool was clean and fun for all. The setting was pretty in the green and amazing close to Sámara. Hot water, air conditioning, a pool, yummy breakfast and helpful staff makes this a must go to!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice, quiet stay in Samara area - This hotel caught us by surprise. At first the place seemed very stark - the rooms are painted white, linens are white, rooms are sparsely furnished. Not what we imagined, however, we quickly got over it once we met the staff. Sabrina and Luis were absolutely amazing hosts. They were always friendly and offering to help us with whatever we needed.
The hotel is several km's from Samara but we had a rental car so the location was fine for us. Playa Carillo and Playa Samara are only a 10-15 minute walk away. Had dinner at the hotel on our first night and it was quite good. Fresh seafood brought in each day by the chef. Can't go wrong!
This is a small, quiet hotel with great staff, and we would recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Staff! - Luis and his staff are what make this hotel. Luis was always working, wearing many "hats" He is very personable, and my humble opinion is what makes this place what it is. He took time to find out everyone's name and make them feel very comfortable. I have been in the service industry for years and can spot it a mile away. Luis, has it down. Please give this man a raise to keep him as long as you can. He is what makes this hotel what it is. We do hope to see you all again soon!
- Tara (8/5): Happy Canadians!! - Montelaguna was in a great location for us as we had a car and could easily go to and from the hotel to Sámara or Carrillo. The hotel itself was average I would say - the rooms/bathrooms were not huge but what made it stand out amongst so many others was the outstanding customer service!! Luis was the hardest working guy and always had a smiling face to greet us.
There was not a lot of variety for breakfast but the food was good. The pool area was nice although the water a little chilly. We spent most of our time at the beach. We felt totally safe and comfortable at the hotel and would stay there again. Thanks to Luis and Mario and all the other staff who work so hard!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Hotel - Small hotel but great rooms. Convenience location close to beach
- victor (10/5): Great Boutique Hotel - Excellent location and great service Very helpful, knowledgeable. Quiet and see all the stars at night. Very relaxing location Could do better for breakfast though, only complaint
- Chris (8/5): Peaceful refuge - My husband and I stayed at Montelaguna for 2 nights. The place is 10 years old. We had a nice spacious King room looking down on the pool from the 2nd floor and even had a sunset glimpse. Breakfast was good and fresh. The pool and lounge chairs all in good condition. The best feature for us was proximity to our favourite, uncrowded beach. One concern was that there was nowhere to hang wet swimwear. A retractable line in the shower would help. Another problem was with the landscaping. Once you destroy natural grasses and vegetation it is very hard to bring it back. The ecosystem is fragile so it needs to be respected.
- Verified traveler (8/5): An oasis. - Short walk to two beaches, but did require a short walk on a shoulder less Road. Walk to Samara on the beach took about 30 minutes.
- Rodolfo (8/5): GREAT!!! - It's a wonderful place, well located
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay and highly recommend ! - Great location, friendly staff and very clean throughout.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice clean hotel close to the beach - Wonderful Italian restaurant. Beds were very comfy and the rooms very clean. Staff was very warm, accommodating and helpful. Nice clean pool and beautiful grounds.
The family suite, though, didn't have a place to use a computer. No chairs. No place to sit that wasn't a bed. The lighting was a bit harsh as well. But all in all the hotel is highly recommended.
- Alison (8/5): Great hotel in Samara! - My family of 4 spent 6 nights here and loved it. The staff is super friendly and the grounds beautiful. The hotel is perfectly positioned in between the quiet and beautiful beach - Playa Carillo and the busier, but still beautiful Playa Samara. We ate dinner on property 2 nights and it was delicious! A few small things would make the hotel even better: a place to hang towels in the room (there were no towel bars) and sheets/blanket for the couch (we had a family suite that had a king bed, a queen bed and a twin - which was actually just a couch). We would highly recommend this hotel!
- Peggy (8/5): Happy times! - We came to the area for the beach. The hotel was very secluded and a happy find. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The beds were wonderful, the best we had on our entire trip! There were four of us and we had a family room (two bedrooms, one bath). When we arrived, we were put in a suite that only had air conditioning in one of the bedrooms. I asked to be moved to another room, with air conditioning in both and was immediately accommodated. The rooms were large and overlooked the swimming pool. There were three things about the rooms that were a problem. There was no place to sit, other than on the beds and there was no place to hang .. the biggest problem was that the one bathroom had swinging saloon doors on it and there was no privacy. With four people in the one setting, it was inconvenient. Having said all of that, if I went back, I would probably stay in the same place. The people who worked there were great. Gary helped us with arranging a tour to see bio luminescent lights on the ocean. There wasn't an official tour that did this, but he found people who knew where it was and took us there. It was a fabulous thing to see.
- lil (8/5): Clean and nice boutique hotel - Hotel is in between Samara and Carillo beach. Good location if you have a car. Rooms are comfortable, functional and clean. Breakfast is good. Pool is nice size, clean and has nice shaded areas with chairs.
- Patti (8/5): Very nice hotel! - The Montelaguna was a great find. Small, intimate and a 3 minute walk to a beautiful beach that was almost all ours...there were maybe 8 people on the beach. It is about 10 minute drive out of the town of Samara...which I was happy about. It was quiet and a very laid back vibe.
The staff was very helpful. The room was spacious.
The food was freshly prepared and very good.
If you want a relaxing experience I would highly recommend it!
- Kristin (10/5): A beautiful hotel with wonderful people! - The hotel was great. Clean, comfortable and charming. The staff were amazing. They gave us advice on various activities in the area, helped us make reservations when needed. Most of all, they were really nice people and it was so good to meet them.
- Julie D. (8/5): - This room had a few spider webs, and a few dead bugs around but they were dead mostly. It was the family suite and as I did read beforehand, the suite for the kids did not have AC and remained VERY hot. We left the door open from our room and blasted the AC so we were cold, but the kids room hot and it offered not privacy. it was very hot. The window screens were ripped in kids room and some windows didn't have screens or curtains.
The room could really have used hooks. Where do you hang your used towels or all your wet clothes from the beach and pool to dry? They also do not have pool or beach towels but fancy sarongs. They are pretty but not super absorbent.
Overall the hotel was very nice and seemed very new. The beach was a short walk and in the trees across the street, the howler monkeys were hanging out on our last day. We could hear them at the pool.
- Gabriel (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay. The owners were lovely. The hotel was pretty, clean, and the staff was friendly. We found the location convenient when driving to Carrillo or Samara.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful hotel. Don't miss a chance to stay there. Luxury, all mod cons.
- GORDON L (10/5): - The room was clean two rooms for families all functioning well.
The owner perfect host
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect location! - Hotel Montelaguna is awesome. It is perfectly located right between Playa Samara and Playa Carrillo. You can easily walk to both. It is a little further from town (and restaurants and shops). We had a car and used it often.
The hotel itself is beautiful and clean. The breakfast each morning was great (and they made pancakes everyday, which the kids appreciated). The pool was clean and refreshing. We used it multiple times a day. It gets HOT in Samara. There were just a few minor things that I would have liked to see, but no big deal. There was no place in our shower to put shampoo or soap and there were no wall hooks to hang towels. Otherwise, everything was wonderful.
- David (8/5): Brand New Hidden Gem with a Great Staff - We stayed here for four nights and even though we had a disappointing first night (heaps of ants in our room) Luce took care of us the next night and upgraded us to an amazing room. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and always happy to help. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. You can take a short walk to either Samara or Carillo beach (definitely check this one out) and are only a short drive (4 minutes to town). You can see chickens, howler monkeys, iguanas, horses and turkeys on the property as well.
If you're looking for a quiet place that's super clean and relaxing, this is it
- Verified traveler (6/5): Shame about the room - The hotel was clean and tidy. The location was good.We booked a family room which consisted of two parts one of which had no air con so was really hot.It was situated adjacent to the pool so we were unable to open the curtains. There was no toilet door and just a saloon door to the bathroom also the shower was poor.Breakfast was adequate .
- Jason (10/5): Great place for a visit to the CR west coast! - My family and I had a fantastic experience at the Montelaguna! The hotel manager, Georgia was so lovely and helpful! She gave us excellent recommendations for local restaurants, tours we could take and beaches to visit! She also was helpful and quick to resolve issues (there was spotty internet service due to recent thunderstorms), and she went above and beyond to give us advice about the rest of our trip! The rooms were clean and comfortable, air conditioning and TV worked great, had a lovely pool and a nice, secluded feel and it was a very easy walk or short drive to both Playa Samara and Playa Carillo. Would definitely visit again!
- Derek (10/5): Couldn't resist an extra night - We stopped in for the night and couldn't resist booking another night. The best beds we found during our two weeks in Costa Rica, great staff, great breakfast, great location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice quiet hotel with great location - Great breakfast and short walk to beach. My only complaint is that there were no blankets in the room!
