Guest Reviews
- Yanire (10/5): - 5- min walk to the beach.
- Jennifer (10/5): - The concierge was so helpful, recommending restaurants and activities. He notified us of a scheduled area wide power outage and took care of making reservations for an ATV tour during the outage.
The restaurant was fantastic, with large plates of fresh food and friendly service.
Housekeeping kept the room clean and comfortable.
- Renata (10/5): Amazing Hotel - Excellent hotel, excellent location. Super spacious bedroom (deluxe room), great bed, quiet AC and ceiling fan, mini kitchen with free coffee power, spacious bathroom counter, good shower, very tasty à lá carte breakfast, just few minutes walk from the main shops and stores, and very close to the beach. The sister property, The Harmony Hotel, is just across the street where you can take yoga classes in a serene and peaceful atmosphere, and use their sauna and cold punges (all paid separately but Sunset Shack guests have a discounted rate). We absolutely loved our stay and would love to come back.
- James (10/5): - Really love Sunset Shack and the perfect start to our holiday. Nice pool area which was genuinely quiet. Very close to beach. Rooms were also nice with a really large and comfortable bed. Breakfast was also great. Would recommend.
- Diane (10/5): - Absolutely loved Sunset Shack. Such a lovely bunch working there, food and drinks were fantastic and its location is perfect, especially if a beach and surf lover
- Catherine (10/5): - Although on the main street, it is tucked away with a lot of space and very comfortable. A five minute walk to the beach. One can explore the area completely on foot. I especially appreciated that Tica massage was 30 seconds from my front door! I loved that there were two doors in the room, which allowed a crossbreeze, lots of light and a sweet little patio to sit and read.
- Lisa R. (10/5): - Perfect spot. Only thing id recommend is more exterior night lighting and anti-slip mats / handrails in the bathroom.
- Christine (10/5): - Quiet, lots of monkeys, close to harmony, farmers market and beach. Comfortable lines, nice mini bar with cold drinks daily in the room. Tico massage right across the street.
- Adina (10/5): - I loved this property and the staff. Really well thought out and great attention to detail. Very comfortable and easy. Lovely pool and great restaurant. Well located and nice to also pop across to Harmony"s juice bar and to sit under their palapas for a change in scenery. Will definitely return.
- Jaclyn (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at the Sunset Shack! We are already planning our next visit!
- David (10/5): Great stay - Great stay!
- Sarah (10/5): We loved staying at the Sunset Shack!! - The Sunset Shack is the perfect place to stay for a surf trip in Nosara! It is quiet and chill compared to other places in the area, and it's a short walk down to the beach. Our room was very comfortable and a perfect size for our family. The staff is so friendly and attentive, and the food at Al Chile is fresh, delicious and nourishing. And reasonably priced. We so enjoyed our daily breakfasts and lunches. We also appreciate that the road is paved by the Sunset Shack as it keeps the dust down as compared to other places in the area. We loved relaxing by the pool and drinking fresh juice in between our surf sessions. Definitely make dinner reservations for every evening of your stay during busy times. We enjoyed multiple dinners at Al Chile, the Harmony Hotel, La Luna and the Guilded Iguana.
- Petra (10/5): - Laid back atmosphere, nice room with a mini kitchen, very comfortable beds, lovely pool, so close to the beach- wonderful!
- Lorne (10/5): - Great staff! Very kind.
- Nathalie (10/5): - I love my stay there The rooms are beautiful and the staff is super friendly
- Trina (10/5): Great location! - Rooms were clean, coffee & pour over for daily use, small kitchen sink & utensils if needed. the onsite restaurant had great food for all meals, great drinks, very friendly staff, highly recommend this place. LIked that it’s not a big touristy hotel & is down to earth where you get a feel for the local culture.
- Connie (10/5): Pura Vida paradise - Fantastic spot to eat sleep surf yoga…. Fantastic staff & great breakfast included. I will be back for sure! I have fallen in love once again w Costa Rica- the place the beach the people the plants the critters- the food pura Vida all the way
- Todd (10/5): Nice little hotel. Excellent location - Great location close to the beach. A little quieter there vs right next to all the busiest restaurants. Issue with the AC one night but it was fixed promptly. Kids liked the pool
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very nice and friendly place - It is a lovely place. The staff at the reception and team at the restaurant are super friendly and make the stay very nice. Daily cleaning and huge size nice breakfasts! Every room has a kitchenette with a coffee maker which is nice. One thing that was a bit of wobble for me is that I stayed in room N1. Everyone was passing by. So you have to keep your windows always closed with curtains and it was dark and at times a bit nosy. It is not a cheap place but then Nosara is generally very expensive and comparing to other hotels it ended up been a reasonable deal. And the place is close to the beach.
- Kara (8/5): - LOCATION IS PHENOMENAL. Sunset Shack is the little sibling to Harmony Hotel across the street. My room was well tended to and breakfast is included at El Chile (nice surprise). Room and property were very clean, I did however find 2 large ants, and multiple little legged worms in my room over my stay which were easy enough to get in a cup and throw outside - not unexpected being in Costa Rica/Jungle territory. What I didn't know until my last day was that you can charge food from Harmony Hotel over to your room at Sunset Shack if you go over the the juice bar or restaurant so that's a handy hack if you don't want to be carrying your card around! Would definitely stay there again, perfect spot if you want to be close to Guiones/Surf (which was my intention)
- Javier F (10/5): Amazing experience - Amazing room, the staff was so friendly, the beach is so beautiful, definitely we are going to return!
- Victoria G. (10/5): Upscale boutique hotel that oozes charm! - Killer location, walk to beach or shops...Attentive onsite personnel, restaurant adjacent with great food/drink options and monkeys in the trees!!! Great surf and people. It was perfect.
Worth every penny...Thank you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Just right - Sunset shack was exactly what we were looking for.
Great location, very close to beach, short walk for food, we didn’t have a car so this was a must for us.
Room was exceptionally clean and very comfortable, all the extras we needed for a 2 week stay.
Good breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Small property, quiet, elegant simple. Really nice little pool and close to the ocean.
- Caroline (10/5): Perfect! - Everything was perfect. The proximity to the beach and main road was great cause I was here with my senior mother. The staff were definitely the nicest, most fun, most friendly staff I’ve had on a holiday in a long time. What a sweet group of guys! They had great food and live music one of the nights. We had a room with 2 beds, the big bed was super comfy, the small bed was extremely firm. Very clean and nice pool
- Justin (10/5): - We had a great stay at the hotel. Hector at front desk was such a great and informative host and helped us a lot throughout our stay. Food was excellent as well and we enjoyed playing pong and foosball at the bar in the evening too.
- Pascal (10/5): - Un hôtel vraiment magnifique avec un resto super! Je devrais garder cette destination comme un secret pour éviter de me retrouver un jour sans chambre!!
- Amy (10/5): - very quiet area, great surfing, enjoyable beach, excellent breakfast and very clean rooms.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a beautiful place and the food was amazing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place is a little gem. Everyone was exceptionally nice and the entire place was perfect. The beautiful gardens and pristine pool were tranquil. The rooms were comfortable and inviting. We were very happy with our stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Casual and comfortable vibe - didn’t seem pretentious like other hotels in the area. Less yoga-centric.
Very clean, staff extremely pleasant.
Restaurant on site was excellent Mexican food, good variety of breakfasts (included).
Pool and community area great, with others travellers sharing information about Costa Rica.
Entertaining wildlife.
Close to beach, shopping and restaurants.
I would highly recommend to friends and family.
- stephanie (10/5): - Hôtel super Nice, charming, clean, quiet, nice bar and restaurant. Nice people, Best staff
- Adam (10/5): Sunset Shack is awesome! - Amazing friendly staff, very helpful and accommodating
- AT (10/5): - The Sunset Shack is small and has everything you would need in Nosara. The rooms are spacious and clean and include a small kitchenette. There is a nice open air restaurant on site. Many extras were available, pool set in a pretty garden, foosball table, ping pong, hula hoops. The location is close to the beach, surf rentals and lessons, small market, shops and restaurants, yoga facilities, language school. The hotel itself feels fairly private. Staff was always friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect place to relax, unwind, and escape the dust and mud of Nosara! Right near the entrance to the main wave, and walking to restaurants, board shops, and yoga studios. Wonderful experience overall!
- Cali (10/5): - The sunset shack has a unique Costa Rican charm While at the same time offers all you would expect from a great boutique hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly the pool warm and clean with a great atmosphere, the location is couldn’t be better as it’s walking distance to the beach and easy for in and out access to Ho while at the same time offer is all you would expect from a great boutique hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly the pool warm it clean with a great atmosphere, the location is couldn’t be better as it’s walking distance to the beach and easy for in and out access to Restaurants surf shops and the beach of course. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it.
- Denise (10/5): - Great location, excellent breakfast included, super friendly and helpful staff, spacious comfortable and incredibly clean room, nice pool. Highly recommend staying at the Sunset Shack!
- Fletcher (10/5): Two thumbs up - Close to beach, clean, great staff, best rancho in the main Guiones beach area it’s in. Checks all the boxes.
- Katrina (8/5): Great place for a few days. - We enjoyed our stay at Sunset Shack. The hotel is small and very comfortable. The staff was pleasant enough, but not as pleasant as interior areas of Costa Rica. We stayed 3 nights and missed maid service the second day so our room got a bit dirty thanks to the sand and mud.
Hotel breakfast is good, we found the tico plate to be the best. The pool is the perfect place to cool off on hot afternoons. The location is great for walking to the gorgeous beach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): What a treat! - Amazing in everyway. Our room was super clean, very comfortable, tastefully decorated and so spacious! The staff was super friendly and very accomodating. Loved the pool! So refreshing after a long day at the beach. The food at the restaurant was always fresh and tasty. Never disapointed! There was a separate juice bar for freshly made juices and homemade popsicles. Easy walk to the beach, yoga and other restaurants. The staff even surprised us on our anniversary with a sweet surprise in our room upon our return from the beach. So sweet! It made our day so special! My stay at Sunset shack was one of the best vacation experiences I have ever had. I highly, highly recommend it!
- Summer (10/5): Best Place to stay in Nosara!!!! - This was the first place my boyfriend and I stayed during our 2 week trip in Costa, and definitely one of our favorites! The cabana style rooms are so cute with tons of character and very comfortable! It was so nice to be able to walk steps out to the beautiful salt water pool and then the awesome bar/restaurant. The pescado chalupa and Hibiscus ginger vodka cocktail were SO GOOD. The location couldn’t have been better either....a short walk to the beach and restaurants if you want to eat out. I 1000000% recommend you stay here. Amazing value for a great hotel with tons of character. Thank you Sunset Shack!!!
- Anne-Marie (8/5): Great stay - My husband and I stayed at Sunset Shack for 3 nights. We were disappointed with the food at the restaurant on site on our first night. We loved everything else about the hotel with the exception of the friendliness of one of the front desk employee. The room was great and the location even better. I would return for sure.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great hotel for surfers Staff was very friendly. Free breakfast was fantastic. Hotel restaurant was very good
- william (10/5): The Sunset Shack is awesome! - The Staff at the sunset shack were awesome. The rooms were very spacious and always in clean condition. The location was very convenient for walking to the beach and access to the Nosara Tico Surf School. They had a nice restaurant on site and live music during many of the evenings. They had a nice ping-pong table and a stand that sold cold pressed juices. I would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend.
- leanne (10/5): mom and baby do nosara girls weekebd - As a new mom visiting my college girlfriend with my infant, this place met and exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed meals and drinks by the pool while my infant napped and we were able to arrange a sitter while we took a surf lesson down the road.
- Marc (10/5): Quiet, Clean, Comfy - Stayed one night. Nice room, pool, enjoyed included breakfast. Great location, quiet, but close to beach & Robbins. In room French press coffee was an unexpected surprise.
- Marc (10/5): Clean, comfortable, and close - Stayed in the regular room & was happy with it. Clean & comfortable room, close to the beach and Robbins Cafe. I enjoyed the included breakfast. In room french press coffee was an unexpected treat. The WiFi was always up, too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel in the heart of Nosara - Found the Sunset Shack at the last minute. The grounds and pool area are beautiful. The room was spacious and clean. The restaurant served a nice breakfast that was included. The restaurant and bar were very busy in the evening, but I didn't hear a thing from our room. Just a short walk to the beautiful beach. Staff was super friendly.
- Alex (8/5): Recommended! - Had a great stay at the Sunset Shack Hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Al Chile Restaurant is also really good. Wouldn’t think it twice if I had to go back.
- Mac (10/5): AWESOME!!! - Sunset Shack was perfect, staff was great super nice and helpful. Food was excellent and so was the location. Definitely will be coming back!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel close to the beach. - This hotel is more like a chic hostel. The Sunset Shack people are more than welcoming, very reliable. The restaurant on site is really good and suits on a budget travel. Good mojitos! We learn on site that our breafast were included when we got there in June 2016. A more than welcome surprise!
- jung min (2/5): Run down place... - Swiming pool water was so gross and never saw anyone in the pool.
Bedding had stains & smudges all over..
It's not worth the money. I should've just stayed in a clean hostel and spend 1/3 of what I ended up paid..
- Richard (8/5): good low-frills hotel for sufers/beachgoers - This used to be the Casa Tucan, was purchased by the Harmony owners, and will be open as a low-frills hotel until winter 2016, I am told. The location is excellent - on the main drag just a few minutes walk from the main beach entrance. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The breakfast that comes with the room is really good too (and the restaurant, while it has a limited menu, serves Tico micro-brews). Facilities are a bit run down, but adequate. The pool is fine and the a/c works.
- dale (6/5): Ants in the room - The needed to do business. Was ok but ants were crawling around everywhere.
