• Rachel (2/5): - Stayed here for one night and never again. Shower curtain was stained. No hot watwr to shower in the morning. Beds were terrible. My 8 yr old said all you could feel was the wires(springs). Bed I slept in was sunken in. Paper thin walls. Flooring is uneven. A 2x4 is used to make the bed level. Flooring material is painted concrete and plywood.
• Donna (6/5): - I didn’t feel safe when outside the facility (in a pretty rundown area) but I had my son and adult grandson with me and they really liked it. It was very close (feet) from a heavily traveled road. There was a significant smell of marijuana smoke in the area. Last thought was the twin bed mattresses were not comfortable. On the positive side it was very historic with lots of amenities like a kitchen, pool table, and outdoor grilling area and it was pet friendly.
• Valerie (2/5): Don’t waste your money - The entire place is extremely run down. The furniture in the common areas was stained and had holes. The flooring was the same. Our room had paneling for flooring. It looked as though it hadn’t been vacuumed before we arrived. There was no staff on site which was fine but the text messages kept saying they could get us anything we needed.

Had a lot of character but needed several repairs and updates. Only saw one staff person and he disappeared after we checked in. His voice mail was full and we needed more bath towels. Loved the common area with pool table, games and fireplace. The place is for sale and just needs a little more TLC.

• Larry (8/5): - Snow Palace is essentially a youth hostel, but my wife and I were able to get a dorm to ourselves with a private bath. The place was a bit funky and down scale, but had a lot of character and interesting non-chain touches (a pool table, shelves of books, a full kitchen to cook in, an organic garden in the back ...). As "geezers"who last stayed in youth hostels decades ago, it was also fun to have breakfast and talk with young hiker/ backpackers. The one real complaint we had was a small bathroom with a tiny sink that had a shelf right over it that made it very difficult to brush our teeth.
• Joseph (10/5): Great Place - Checked in by staff and they were friendly + courteous. Toured me around the facility and I met two Aussies that I struck up conversation with. Stayed in men's dorm and it had seven beds yet I was by myself first three nights. Dorm had shower + bathroom and both were very clean. Met a few couples staying upstairs in private rooms and they commented how nice they were as well. Breakfast was self-serving yet they had cereal, eggs, toast etc. I woke up every morning to fresh coffee then hard-boiled eggs and it was tasty! If you're a hiker/adventurous soul or a couple looking for a quiet place, Snow Mansion and it's staff will make for an incredible stay!
• J Michael (2/5): More of an old fashioned hostel than modern hotel. - This is not really a hotel. It is more like a early 1970’s youth hostel. Everything is old, worn and appears second or third hand. This includes bedding and towels. Rooms are decorated in a manner resembling an explosion at a cheap flea market. Exposed wires run down room walls and power outlets are oddly placed. Bathroom was only slightly larger than toilet on an airplane. Walls are thin and floors creak so badly there is Quite Hours policy from 10 pm until 8 am. Lobby has books and board games If you are looking to relive hippie era student travel, you might enjoy a stay here. It did bring back memories for me. If that is not the case, find another place to stay.

• THOMAS A. (6/5): 4th of July 2019 in Northern NM - The owners and staff were top notch; some of the best I've encountered in my stays else where. First and probably last time to stay at a hostel. Totally understand when they have had to post their rules and regulations. On holiday, I don't expect to not watch or talk from 10 pm - 9:30 am. For the price of lodging, I don't expect to have to make my own coffee or breakfast. I found the room, even with the fan and the window opened my 3 day stay, uncomfortable, especially to sleep. Was looking forward to the coolness of the northern part of the state from my home here in the central area. Was lucky to have found accommodations as I waited far to long to make reservations for the 4th holiday. Snowmansions location was excellent base for seeing/doing all in the Enchanted Circle. The wifi was really s l o w to non-existent and cell reception was none. Again, I'm used to free fast wifi and cell reception.

• Mauny (8/5): - The facility is a traditional hostel. It is well located in a lovely little town, and near the mountains. If you don’t mind shared bathrooms, a full kitchen to cook your meals, a reading area with a fireplace, meeting people, and more, then this is your place! Affordable, and cosy.

• Peggy (8/5): SnowMansion - My Grandson's and I went to Taos to ski. The SnowMansion was perfect. It was ideally located a short drive to the slopes yet not too far from town to go in for the evening. The staff was friendly and the place was clean.

Same happened on another night but someone brought another portable heater. No amenities the first night.( soap, shampoo etc.) Full breakfast was a cook your own and wash your own dishes. Did not trust that the cooking utensils were that clean. Mousetrap in the lobby entrance to our annex building. Water in the room was hot though. Seemed more like a hostel than a hotel.

• Nancy (10/5): Great place to stay if visiting Tais! - I totally enjoyed my stay. The staff were very hospitable and were available as needed. The room was clean and comfortable. The fire downstairs was comfy and made relaxing with other guests enjoyable. I wish I had arranged to stay longer I had an itinerary and had to get off the next day.
• Mali (10/5): - First of all, the village of Arroyo Seco is absolutely charming, easy to stroll around in, safe and welcoming. There are several unique shops, art and sculpture galleries, a few good restaurants, a bar, a great grocery and a Mary garden at the local church. The hostel and lodge itself is almost unbelievably wonderful: if you want to be left alone, no one bothers you. If you desire company, the staff is incredibly friendly and guests are invited to join them for dinner or other shared meals; at least, that was my experience. I felt so much at home, the kitchens are easy to use and it’s all very casual (with of course basic rules of clean-up after oneself, just common courtesy). It’s extremely comfortable with lots of people coming and going, good spontaneous conversation, occasional children and, often, music. There are books and available computers, wifi and chess boards, beautiful outdoor space as well as producing gardens; sort of a tenable utopia. Kind of a time warp with technology: I could have simply never left. As a single woman of a certain age, albeit an experienced and resilient traveller, I have seldom felt so in my element and also free to just be myself...as at Snow Mansion. I’d recommend them highly to poets, skiers, dancers, dreamers, hikers, highwaymen and troubadors: it’s a wayside place to tell your stories and sing your songs in. 17 stars.

• Mary (8/5): Surprised how much we liked this rustic place!! - My husband and I (retired) stayed for 4 days and ended up really enjoying ourselves here! I have never before stayed at a hostel, so this took some time to get used to it, but by the end, I was hooked. My husband said "it had good vibes, and a hippy feel" - taking us back to our 60's days. ;) There was a community table where we ate together with eggs and continental breakfast provided. SnoMansion Lodge is right on the edge of this little mountain town where you can walk to everything! We walked to the wonderful health food store and café almost every day. Amu and his staff were super helpful and pleasant. The shared kitchen was well equipped and available to prepare our own food for lunches and/or dinners, too. This place reminded me of our cabin camping days with a mess hall to eat in, but so much better!!! Yes, the floors squeaked and the lodge is very old, but the guests were respectful of each other and it was a relaxing, unwinding, out-of-the box experience you just have to try for yourself!

• Karla (10/5): Friendly, homestyle, feel-good hostel - My two grade school kids and I came to Taos for a ski weekend. The Snow Mansion made our visit so easy...close to the ski area and with a full kitchen so we could make our own meals. The kids immediately felt at home and relaxed here. The Snow Mansion is in a beautiful quaint little town with anything you might need in a pinch within half a block, including a great organic grocery store, great breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant options, plus a naturopathic, Oriental medicine, Ayurvedic and all around incredibly experienced healer right next door as well. Since my daughter lost her voice with a cold?flu? on the second day of our travels, I was soooo grateful that we could get her immediate natural healthcare support. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the guests that I met there were as well. This place attracts positivity. Do recognize it's a budget hostel, not a 5 star hotel, so keep expectations in check. They are eco-minded as well, there is composting and recycling available and encouraged. I am heading back ASAP for another stay, and need to check it out in summer while the organic farm is more active.
• Verified traveler (6/5): A Hostel is not a Hotel. Know the differences - A Hostel is not a hotel so it is important to know what your getting yourself into. There was a group meal apparently before I got there and they didn't really clean up. There was an odor for a long time. It might have also contributed to warming the room. Since it is in Taos and at higher elevation, it should be cooler and not require air conditioning in the summer months. This was not the case that day. There is very little street lighting, so arriving late may get you confused finding the place. Maybe GPS coordinates should be posted instead of the address.
• Bunny (2/5): Hotel from Hell/great disappointment - Facility was dusty, run down & sewage smell was less than 2 feet from our rooms door. Online pictures didn't accurately represent facility & no negative reviews were posted. Was informed the sewage smell was the kitchens "grease trap" & should be cleaned more often. Haha. We cancelled our 2 nights & went elsewhere. Traveler beware.
• Jeffrey (8/5): Descent place in a pinch - Snow Mansion was staffed with friendly helpful people. Really was not happy with the cleanliness of the community kitchen. Had to wash pots and pans before using them to cook with. Beds in the room were not comfortable and rooms are not cleaned during your visit. They do have plenary of games and books in the lodge to entertain yourself. It is really a nice idea.
• Verified traveler (6/5): It's camping, with a room! - The SnowMansion was like being at camp when I was a kid. The room we were in had no place to hang our clothes. The shower head sprayed water on the wall and ceiling. The bare wood floors were similar to a deck. It was great hearing the coyotes all night however hearing every toilet flush was a bit of a downer. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
