All the staff was very helpful except one staff at the buffet was kind of short but other than that all the other staff was wonderful we wanted to take some of them home with us especially Adriana. The staff at the Peruvian restaurant gave us the best service we have ever had at any restaurant. We went there on our anniversary and had such a special intimate time. I plan to go back. We really wanted to call out the Peruvian staff by name because they were so wonderful and we lost the card that had their names on it. We stayed September 13th through the 21st so it should be pretty easy for the resort to figure out the wonderful staff that we had. I hope all of the staff gets paid very well as it was superb service.

The new hires kids from the block not so helpful . The food : bufet dinner and lunch not great . Too much cheap Chinese rice food , cheap paella, cheap pizza , cheap gelatin deserts. It used to be amazing Mexican fresh authentic food ten years ago .

- Karen (6/5): - I went to snorkel with the many turtles that were supposedly there.(Akumal- place of the turtles) Instead the whole area was totally covered in a type of seaweed. Dump trucks and bulldozers worked all day, starting at 6:30 in the morning to clear the beaches.The hotel itself was ok, kind of old and tired. The staff was very good.

- Lee (6/5): - Major renovation works taking place. Hard to relax by the pool with constant drilling and banging. Was Not advised of this prior to booking. The room next door to us was also under renovation and work was carried out durning the night past 10pm on two occasions. Balcony door very poor security and left open each day by Housekeeping. Did not work on arrival and a temporary fix was done. Hot tub did not work on arrival also the TV however this was fixed. Hotel is generally nice. Most staff are helpful however a couple of staff give poor service. Good is generally nice.

The sargassum is a problem right now, and there are some renovations causing some noise at the main pool. Also, the gym is currently closed for renovations as well, but the hotel still has the best snorkeling right off the beach that I've seen.
- Catherine (6/5): - Resort was very average. I chose it because the rating was 9 and it was pitched as a 4-star resort. Not sure how it got either. It's a 3-star at best. I will say it has 2 things going for it: every room has an ocean view; and the staff is generally very nice (albeit incompetent). Buildings 3 & 4, rooms are updated, but still not luxury. Very minimal in terms of amenities. (We used the provided bath salts the first night in the hot tub and they were not restocked by housekeeping, like body wash, lotion and shampoo. No one knew how to get that restocked.) Other building's room are smelly (damp moldy smell) and run-down. The main pool's water has a strange order and is not clean. Food was consistently bad. Very basic for the price paid – cheap and repetitive. Same thing every day on buffet. I typically eat vegan but here that was impossible. I had planned to eat vegetarian, but even that was challenging. Others on the trip had meat, but said it was poor quality, tough. One exception was the pumpkin enchiladas at Alux - those were fantastic. The drinks were the cheapest possible brand. And still diluted. We were told there was branded alcohol like Baileys, Grey Goose, etc. – I even double-checked this before booking -- but nope. In general, when you ask for something, you get passed off to someone else that just runs you in circles. Very frustrating. We asked for a candle once, they said they didn't have one...but every table in restaurants had them. Would not go back.

- TERESA (10/5): - I like having an ocean view, being to have a private beach and walkable to town. The only negative is a staff whose name is Amparo was very rude and ignored us. She even looked at us and started talking to another staff person. She wouldn't take our order in the snack bar and if she did, she never gave it to us. I had to ask another staff for our order, and he got it, and it was cold. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who got the cold shoulder from her. The fact is we didn't even do anything to her for her to treat us that way. Please let management know about tis staff.

Only 1 vegetarian dish at each a la carte restaurant and no willingness from the hotel to be flexible. But the buffet had good options most of the time (though not always sign posted)

- Emilie Day (10/5): - We absolutely love ABR! Our family has been visiting this resort for the past 15 years, and it continues to be a special place for us. Each year, we notice thoughtful updates and improvements, all while maintaining the natural beauty of the grounds, which blend seamlessly with the surroundings. Everything is always impeccably clean, and the staff is consistently kind, polite, and attentive. We especially enjoy the 8 AM yoga sessions, daily beach volleyball, and the wide variety of delicious food and drinks. While the evening entertainment could use some improvement—most nights the bands don't quite energize the crowd—there’s always a great atmosphere in the main palapa after dinner. Sundays are a highlight, with a fantastic Salsa/Cumbia band that gets everyone on the dance floor! During our recent stay, the sargassum issue affected the beaches, which was unfortunate but beyond anyone’s control. Akumal Bay is typically home to some of the most stunning beaches and snorkeling we’ve ever experienced. Overall, we love this resort for its welcoming, international vibe and outstanding customer service. We look forward to returning again!
- derrick (6/5): - Relaxing Retreat with Incredible Service — Watch out for the Seaweed We recently stayed at Akumal Wellness Resort in Akumal, Mexico, and overall had a wonderful and restorative experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly welcome — warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The people here are what make this place so special. One of the highlights of our trip was the spa — the services were absolutely amazing. Every treatment we experienced was expertly done, leaving us relaxed and refreshed. It’s a must-do if you're staying at the resort. The food and drinks were another highlight. Every meal was delicious, and the drinks were always on point — fresh, flavorful, and plentiful. Whether poolside or at dinner, the culinary offerings exceeded our expectations. The only downside of our trip was the sargassum (seaweed) on the beach. Unfortunately, it was heavy during our visit, which made the beach largely unusable. While this is a natural and seasonal issue that many Caribbean destinations face, it was disappointing not to be able to fully enjoy the otherwise beautiful beachfront. That said, the resort made up for it in many other ways. If you're looking for a relaxing escape with great people, fantastic food, and top-tier wellness services, Akumal Wellness Resort is worth considering. Just be sure to check the seaweed conditions if the beach is a key part of your vacation plans. Would have been 5 stars if not for the seaweed.

Also was given the “honeymooners package” and only received part of it. The food was not good, there were maybe 3 good dishes between all 4 restaurants and don’t waste your time on the buffet. The place is quiet which we enjoyed, but their snorkeling only includes a mask not a snorkel so they will charge you for the snorkel as well. They make up their own currency exchange there that is different from anywhere else in akumal so you will pay out the butt for anything at the resort. the staff was overall very good and attentive. Honestly the only great this was the room, which didn’t have hot water for 2 days, and the staff and waiters. Stay at the resort next door as it’s nicer and seems to have happier guests.

- Daniel (4/5): - The 5 star rating of this all inclusive resort is not justified. Travelling solo at this resort I was treated like a second class citizen. I often sat waiting and watching as couples and families were seated in the resteraunts before me even though I arrived and checked in well before before they did. One evening I waited an hour and a half while I watched multiple couples and families walk right in and be seated. Thankfully one of the staff members recognized me from another resteraunt and when I told her I was forgotten she sat me right away. The Good: The majority of the staff were warm and welcoming. Cleaning crew always greeted while walking the halls. The room (Penthouse 4th BLDG) was clean and had a nice view. Bed was very comfortable. The Bad: Pools were cloudy. No towels to be found at smaller pools requiring a hike to the main pool to get one. Crowded beach with not enough chairs or shade. You must get up at 6am and secure a spot. Bars use bottom shelf liquor, unless you specifically ask for name brand. Frozen drinks not blended enough with large chunks of ice Food was scarce and terrible. This was the worst part of the trip.

It seems there are fewer workers so it takes longer to get service on the beach and at the pool. The food in the buffet needs to be kept warmer, much warmer. They've been working on improvements; hopefully, they will continue.
- Yanet (10/5): - If you are looking for a resort that is calm, quiet and mostly adults then look no further. Do not expect the blaring music or party atmosphere of other hotels. The resort is extremely clean, offers activities and surprisingly it is handicapped accessible which not many hotels in Mexico offer. The breakfast and lunch buffet are delicious and the food varies with each day. The four sit-down dinner restaurants offer super chef quality food. The drinks are top quality served in glasses in all the restaurants and bar areas. Unless, your on the beach they will be served in durable plastic cups which is understandable. I used the spa facilities and they were a bit pricey, but worth every cent. The whole hotel staff from the minute upon-arrival until you leave give their best to serve you and make you feel comfortable. The beach is full of rocks on one side upon entering the water on the right side which almost no one uses. However, the left side next to another hotel there are no rocks and full of sand which is much easier. It is also the side to walk down the beach to go towards the public beach entrance and the sea turtle sanctuary. The hotel is situated in the town of Akumal which is small and there are only a few stores to reach by walking within 20 minutes. By vehicle, the town of Tulum and the Tren Maya Tulum station are a 30 minute drive. The Tulum airport is up to a 60 minute drive. Hint: If you want to experience the Tren Maya, you can do so from Tulum.

- Cindy (10/5): - This resort was quiet and relaxing - exactly what I was looking for. Drinks/food were excellent. Comfortable bed. The only unfortunate aspect, was the amount of people who stake claim to a cabana/chairs around the main pool and then you don’t see them for hours. I was up every day to watch the sunrise from my balcony that overlooked the pool and every day this happened. The cabanas even have a sign on them saying this behavior is not allowed but no staff intervened. There is also a large amount of seaweed that gathers at the water’s edge. I’ll give the resort credit, they do try to haul literal dump trucks full of seaweed out but it seems like a never ending battle and should be a better way to manage this. Overall, I rate the resort 5 stars based on hospitality, drinks, food and live music every night.
- Andrey (4/5): - This was our second and most likely last vacation in this resort. 1. AC in the room was not working. We asked to fix it several times. And it appears we weren’t the only ones. Several guests had the same problem and it was never fixed. 2. If you come to the beach after 8am - 99% you will not find free umbrella. We got lucky once. 3. Even though we booked 8 months in advance and at the time of booking asked for a room away from the main pool we were given room right in front of it. When asked to change rooms they said that nothing was available. Positives: 1. The beach is beautiful and if you’re into snorkeling you will not be disappointed. 2. Staff is friendly and our room was cleaned promptly. 3. Brazilian restaurant was very good. Hope this will help others to decide if this place is good for them.
- Eileen (10/5): - The entire stay from the welcome margarita to checkout was top notch. Will DEFINITELY be going back!
- Ramaswamy (10/5): - On the beach. Excellent value for price. Mid size. Positives: All rooms have ocean views. Great vegetarian options. Diverse international visitors. Good snorkeling from beach. Turtle sites are nearby though require additional payment. Excellent yoga and meditation classes. Good attentive staff. Though slightly confused when it comes to service and reservations of beach chairs and gazebos. Negatives: Access to Tulum and other adjacent sites are limited. Cab fares via hotel are exorbitant. One can walk 15 mins on beach to town nearby and then hop on a cab to everywhere. But that’s not ideal while on vacation. Especially given Mexico’s arrangement to negotiate a ride each time. Thus, once there, feels a bit stuck.
- Aimee (10/5): - This was our second time to this resort and once again it didn’t disappoint! The staff is top notch! Incredibly kind. The penthouse room is to die for, definitely spend the extra for it! It feels and looks like a tropical oasis in every inch of this resort. Can’t say enough great things about Akumal Bay Resort!
- Benjamin (8/5): - This property is great and a very intimate set up. It’s quiet and tranquil. The rooms were good. It’s only a 4 for 2 things : they were always out if towels at the pool/beach. The food was ok, nothing great just average. I’d go back regardless. Good value resort

- Sara (8/5): - excellent location, beautiful beach and great snorkeling. extremely clean and well kept property. service was good but could have been more attentive (not being seated/drink orders taken at buffet, soaps/shampoos/water not replenished by housekeeping, etc). a la Cartes restaurants VERY good. buffet was fairly typical, but had lots of nice Mexican options. chair saving an issue, but staff always available at beach to help you find a spot/remove towels. great resort for lower mobility individuals as there are elevators and everything is in close proximity. extra points for the resident resort cat.

- Bobby (10/5): - 19yr Anniversary trip-Stay was very nice, dining options were good, a lot of grassy stuff would wash up on the beach every night but would be cleaned first thing in the morning. For the price it was a great value which is why we stayed here due to the budget. We were not disappointed would of been happy to stay more days if we could have. If you want a good seat by the water or cabana u will have to get up super early to claim them with your belongings. Seemed like people where up at 5 am and we weren’t doing that on vacation lol.

- Mark (10/5): - This is an outstanding resort we enjoyed immensely. The setting on the beach of Akumal Bay is spectacular and the extraordinarily comfortable rooms are truly “ocean front.” The staff is remarkably accommodating and the “vibe” is totally “chill.” Food was absolutely first-rate. We now consider Akumal Bay BC our favorite spot on the Riviera Maya and will be back soon.

- Matthew (8/5): - Smaller resort with a very chill vibe. We visited during the middle of March. Beach has soft sand and shallow clear water. Not a party atmosphere, most people were either snorkeling or reading during the day. My partner and I were both able to finish two novels which felt great under the sun. Shade will be limited so be sure to relocate to the lobby bar area or snack bar, both which still have beautiful views. One complaint is people will towel reserve seating early, we only managed to grab an umbrella one day and we are early risers as well. Drinks and buffet food was fair while some restaurants lacked quality. Overall great though, didn't expect anything special and service was always friendly. Entertainment at night was a great change from shows to music and some dancing in the lobby bar. Rooms were always cleaned and felt great to stay in. We loved having an ocean front view and looking out to a sunrise every morning. Overall, We had a wonderful time but it lacked some of the final product of a 5 Star which we have usually stay at. This place is perfect for a chill little getaway from the big resorts and a great beach to snorkel at. Thanks so much to the staff who made it a great trip!

- Joel (10/5): - Everything is close and on the beach. Drive there in rush hour is long and some seaweed on the beach due to storms. However, staff worked hard to remove this every day. Great resort. Will be back.
- Andrew (10/5): - We enjoy being on the bay, less waves in the ocean. It is all-inclusive, and the food is phenomenal. All rooms face the ocean. Very clean, very friendly staff, very relaxing. There are lounge chairs on the beach, with 'umbrella-like' structures for shade. A very nice clean pool on the property, too, with bed-type covered chairs around it. Also, they have snorkels & masks to borrow, and paddleboarding with a guide at certain times of the day. There is music - live bands every night, with dancing! There is even water-yoga offered in the mornings, and salsa lessons in the afternoons. We have been there 4 times now, and still love it.
- John R (10/5): Great and live music is fantastic! - Great place to stay. Room is very comfortable and everyone is so nice. The live music at night is terrific. They played mostly 60's, 70's, 80's and occasionally some newer. The food is very good.

Unfortunately, during our 7 days stay, we never had high quality, flavorful food. If you are looking for a great beach and don’t care about what you eat, this is a lovely spot. If you enjoy quality, flavorful food, then I would recommend another location.

- Tanya (10/5): - The property was beautiful and we were in one of the renovated rooms which were very nice. This resort is relaxing and quiet. No issues getting lounge chairs at any time of the day. The only bad point is that the food at the buffet was terrible, we have stayed at many all inclusive resorts and this was the worst food we have had. We do not have high expectations for food at all-inclusive resorts but this did not even meet our low expectations. This resort was a bit pricier than others so we thought the food would be better.

- Andrew (8/5): - Mostly really nice property. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The negatives were the loungers and palapas were always reserved for the day. Many time you didn’t see them used for more than half the day, just towels sitting on them. Sounds like that’s the way most resorts are but it’s still annoying.
- Glen (8/5): - Hot water issues on the top floor. Had to run the cold water for 15 minutes before switching over to the hot water every time before taking a shower.
- Michael (10/5): - Beautiful grounds and sandy beach with shallow water. Very peaceful. Most if not all rooms have ocean frontage. Very obliging, cheerful staff. Food good to very good. Reservation policy at sit down restaurants a bit confusing but access worked, at least for numbers there when we were.

- Lisa Marie (4/5): - The se4vice at this hotel does not come close to the star rating indicated. Every day we were shorted something. For example. Every day we would come back after the room refresh. Every day they left one less of something (a coffee pod, less water left than the day before, 1 wash cloth) The elevator in building4 was broke the last three daysof our stay.. food and service was terrible in buffet. The room service food was terrible (snack bar food over cooked and not what was ordered). The place doesn't really have much to offer but the view the entire vibe is boring.. Very disappointed and could not recommend it.
