Guest Reviews
- Amber (2/5): - EXPEDIA PLEASE INVESTIGATE
The Alea Hotel is not what is states online.
On arrival rooms were not ready. 2 hr later the we were able to go to our room. We were not offered refreshments. Rooms smelt like mold. The bathrooms were not cleaned. Sheets were ripped. There was not breakfast available. No baror no restaurant to eat in. Elevator was broken. The whole hotel was full of mold roof falling in. The staff do not understand English. I seen 3 people check out the morning we arrived who had stayed 1 night. The hotel needs to update what they offer and need to update the photos as this is a 1star rated hotel and that's being generous.
- Rhonda (2/5): - Didn’t look like the pictures that’s for sure. It was so bad we couldn’t stay so left and went elsewhere
- Troy (6/5): Desperately Seeking a Reno!! - In its day (Built in (2011), this would’ve been an awesome place to stay but when you see what 13years in Balinese weather does to a Hotel you’ll think all of the web pictures have not been changed since!! Time has not been kind to this establishment unfortunately and although the young staff try hard, the place needs a FULL & COMPREHENSIVE Renovation! The location is Fantastic and Very Quiet; Easy access to Batu Belong beach and a Fantastic Warung (Jembung) next door are all points in its Favour! For $27/night (No Breakfast is curry being offered but Cafe’ 707 down the Road is Excellent!!)I certainly got my Cheap, 2 week holiday but if you are Fussy, I wouldn’t stay here as it will take you more than (I had 3 Room changes) to be Happy and Content with your stay.
- GURMUKH (2/5): - I don’t recommend to anyone to stay this hotel.
- Helen (4/5): - This property is situation in a very quiet area, and is within walking to many great eating spots. The pool is private for the people staying. We stayed the first week of August 2023 and the whole place felt like it was in some form of renovation. My room had a rusted shower head and no hot water, but was always clean. As they say "you get what you pay for"
- Miriam (6/5): - The lack of advertised amenities and non workable ng lift
- Verified traveler (4/5): Never again!!! - The hotel is very outdated, the room wasnt cleaned at all, our bed had black hairs in the sheets and on the pillows, also there were huge stains in the “decorative small pillows”, the coffee mugs had lipstick and coffee stains on them so we had to go to the restaurant to ask for new ones but they said that they will wash them and bring them to the room (took them 35 mnts to bring them back) we needed ICe and the restaurant charge us 5000 rp to fill 2 cups with Ice (this should be free) the lockbox was not working so we had to get a new one and then it started beeping with error code for 5 minutes until someone came again to fix it. The A/C did not work well at all, i woke up sweating every night. the Wifi DOESNT WORK!!! it literally works for 5 minutes and then stops working, i spent an hour trying to get it to work again and unsuccessful, wifi was not working at all!!! NO WIFI ON ROOMS!! The pool was dirty with bugs all over, the lounge chairs in poor condition. I needed change to pay the taxi and I asked the front desk for change and they said they didnt had any change without even checking. The service was bad, room bad, overall super bad experience.
- Sam (8/5): Ok for the price - The Alea was a pretty good hotel for a very good price in Seminyak. I did find a few ants in my shower and a couple of beetles in the bathroom too but it’s a tropical place and didn’t feel dirty at all.
The double bed was 2 singles, one was fine and comfortable the other was rock hard. Lucky I was solo.
The food in the restaurant wasn’t great but I only tried the grilled cheese sandwich. The local place right next door is far better!
- Sarae (2/5): Unclean - Really disappointed with the quality of this hotel. It was one of the most unclean rooms I’ve ever checked into. Would never recommend this hotel for a stay
- Andrea (10/5): Great location - Affordable place at a great location.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The property was a little run down. The room we were in was right next tp the bar which was pumpong music all day so wasnt very peaceful. There were stains on the pillows and the room smelt quite musty.
- Henry (10/5): Great Stay - We had a great stay. We were attending a wedding close by and Alba was in a great location, well priced. Beautiful premises and we were very well looked after. Thank You Alba
- Michael (8/5): Good budget location - First time in Bali - hopefully not last. All of the hotel staff was friendly, helpful, courteous. Definitely made the stay a memorable one. Location overall is nice and away from traffic. The breakfast buffet on the rooftop was pretty decent. The hotel itself has some issues I hope will get addressed. Internet: Unreliable and spotty at best. If internet is needed for work or download/stream, then this hotel is not for you. There were ants in the room, so if that bugs you, then you've been notified. (Hot) Water: 80% of the time the water worked just fine, but there was a couple of evenings where hot water was intermittent and 1 evening where no water was available at all.
- leonard (8/5): Clean and comfortable. - Clean, comfortable, nice pool, close to a lot of great restaurants. I'll definitely recommend staying here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - Was a quick check in and a very good nights stay for the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This hotel is such a good deal considering their location. Cleanliness and airflow was good, another plus point is there was a small local 'warung makan' (eatery) and scooter rental just beside the hotel. One major negative point though, there were unexplained problems with their outsourced laundry service thus they can not provide us with any towels for the duration of our stay.
- Sarah (8/5): Great value for money - The Alea is a lovely hotel and great value for money. The bathroom was small but apart from that everything else was lovely.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property is outdated. The towels and bed linen need to be replaced. Im not sure they change the linen between guests because the housekeeping cart didnt have linens in them. The pool has stairs missing from the pool ladder which makes it difficult to get out. If you have a mobility disability I highly recommend NOT using the pool until the steps are replaced. Overall, i was disappointed with the conditions of the hotel. The staff was pleasant.
- Cheryl (6/5): - Nice location, near to a few mini-marts and near popular food places. The hotel was decent, needed a bit of refurbishing and a good cleaning though. But it’s alright if you intend to spend most of the day out anyway.
- John (6/5): Ok for The $. - This hotel is dated and suffers a bit from wear and tear/old age. It gets confused with the nearby Alila Hotel which is modern and in another price bracket. Whilst staff were very friendly and unobtrusive, unfortunately, noise and cleanliness of my room let my experience down. The staff cannot control the noise as it was probably due to a building fault: none or poor acoustic insulation at time of construction. My room was adjacent stairs so noisy with guests leaving due to earthquake scare. Staff changed water, toiletries and towels daily but I found hairs on bed cushions, sheets & shower base inc large deposits of mouldy grime. The pool was closed for maintenance during my stay & as I did not use any other facilities inc gym, restaurant or wifi; I cannot comment further. This hotel is ok under cheapest available in Seminyak but for a longer stay or families, where you intend to use more of a hotels amenities, I would search other options in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic location with excellent staff - It was wonderful to use this hotel as our base for two weeks. It is close to all the top restaurants and walking distance to the beach. The staff were so friendly and amazing. They really made our stay such a pleasurable one.
- Agnes (10/5): Pretty hotel in between rice fields - I like how it is located in between rice fields, but still close to the beach and Seminyak Square. The design of the hotel is really pretty and instagrammable. The staff are friendly and helpful, too. While the breakfast buffet was nice, it would be better if they vary the menu a bit at least every 2 days. Also, I hope someday they can improve the lighting in the rooms. Currently they are dimly lit. But overall, it was a great stay. Good value for money.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Disappointing ... full of bus loads of extremely loud tourists with no concept of noise. Roadworks made it impossible to walk to hotel (no driving) without arriving almost knee deep in mud ... every day.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No hair dryer, the drainage in the shower sucks
- johnnyboy (2/5): Nice staff but hotel is old and not clean - Would not recommend to anyone. Hotel rooms are dirty, cramped and run down. Staff are friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice and decent hotel - Swimming pool facing rooms. Location is slightly ulu but overall is great.
- maree (4/5): To far out of the way. - When we arrived they tried to make me pay again...which I didn't coz I had already paid. The sheets on the bed had stains on them and they never changed them the whole time we were there. Breaky wasn't the best either. Hotel is down a lane and out of the way. Would never stay there again. Rating out of 10 i would say maybe a 2
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cheap Hotel - Lots of small problems which added up to an overall poor experience. If you need a cheap bed then this hotel is fine. Breakfast was revolting - don't bother!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great for a relaxing time - We only had two nights at The Alea Hotel and wish we had more. At the time we went it was quiet, we nearly had the pool to ourselves and we loved the room we were in. All you can eat buffet breakfast for $5AUD is you booked in advance was pretty good value. Close to shops, restaurants and bars is you wanted to head out. Very helpful when it can to organising airport pick up.
- Verified traveler (6/5): You get what you pay for - Can't really complain for $25 a night. Staff are nice. Room was clean. Although air conditioning barely worked. No point in saying anything to reception when the rooms of my friends were exactly the same. Power went out one night and we were the only hotel without a generator. Pool is from 8-8 but when it came to the large Chinese groups they were allowed to enjoy the pool anytime they wanted. Buffet is cold but again can't complain for what it's worth. It still fills you.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is nice budget hotel. Close to beach and all facilities.
- Inga Jawahir (6/5): - Toilet smells bad.
- holly (8/5): Excellent value - I only stayed here one night and it was very last minute but I couldn't believe how amazing the hotel was for the money
- Jo (4/5): An average hotel - Our pool access room meant the full glass wall and door were a few metres from the small pool and swimmers were literally right outside the door and could see straight into our very small room.
The hotel was very remote down a small, smelly laneway. The fact that "necessities" like drinks, water and snacks were sold in the lobby said it all - no shops nearby. It took us an hour by taxi to get to Kuta.
We have travelled extensively in Asia and are used to below average hotels, but although we had paid for 6 nights, we only stayed one and moved to another hotel.
- gary (10/5): Quiet loaction. Off from main road - Super affordable and quiet place to stay. Staff is quiet friendly. Away from the main street though.
Wud recommend if ur on a tight budget.
- d (10/5): Awesome Honeymoon - The hotel location is perfect for us, not in the crowded area but easy to reach beach only 10 minutes by walking. By walking in some minutes, you also will find some nice restaurants. The lobby is unique with staffs are friendly the food is fine and our favorite are fresh juice and satay.. so yummiii!! With the competitive room rate, we had a nice experience staying at Alea.
- Clark (8/5): clark - very pleasant stay good service clean room air con works well
- John (8/5): 10 min walk to beach in a quiet area. - Happy that we could find this hotel in last minute, around Christmas, and everything was satisfactory with the hotel. Pool area could have been bigger and breakfast could have had more vegan options, other than that, we were happy customers.
- Dwi Kartika (8/5): Nice Place - Stayed in this hotel for the fourth time this year. Good price, walking distant to Seminyak hip cafes and quiet environment. Such a bliss!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Locatd at a Nice area - Clean and nice room. Good price, close to restaurants, friendly staff. Room is a bit small.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent hotel but better hotels next door. - Pros:
-Newer hotel.
-Friendly staff at breakfast.
Cons:
-Slow check-in. Guy gave me room closest to lobby--so loud. So had to ask to move.
-Wifi did not reach my second room (at end of corridor) and dumb staff didn't think about moving me to a better room.
-No golf cart shuttle available like two hotels next door.
-Hot water maker in room was dirty inside.
-Housekeeping staff didn't clean toilet during multi-day stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): The Alea - Service is good, found beds a little on the hard side. Needed a taxi to go anywhere as a a bit out of the way. Overall a good clean tidy hotel with good service.
- l. (6/5): Good enough for the price... - Lovely staff close enough to things (20 min walk..) but towels were yellow and dirty. Power kept turning off so that was annoying too.
If you are the kind of person that doesnt spend time at your hotel it's perfect for you.
Otherwise you may go somewhere else.
breaky was very poor but staff were lovely everywhere! We asked to have brekky earlier before we checked out and they fully set it up for us.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not Recommended - I would not stay here again. It is overall a very basic budget hotel. The entry area/front desk, which is open air, smells like sewage water. I had an issue with my first room with a similar bad smell in the bathroom and they refused to let me move rooms even though the hotel was basically empty. I finally convinced them the next day as a new front desk person agreed the smell was too bad. There were stains on the bed and couch in both rooms. Was offered a free welcome drink - it was a non alcoholic juice, which would have been fine, but it was a joke - a mass produced pre made sugary sweet guava blend out of a huge plastic tub at the bar...and it came in the tiniest glass I have ever seen! The location is far down a small road from the main road and so you have to walk ~10 min or call a cab to you. The Neo Seminyak looked like a better location for the price.
- young couple (6/5): Nice tidy hotel, great facilities - Very nice room, comfortable bed, nice shower, good air conditioning. Wifi was annoying as you have to log in every time you use it, and the password has a combination of letters and numbers which is a hassle. Good location just out of the business, but a short walk to seminyak square and the beach. I wouldn't recommend booking tours or drivers through the hotel. The prices they quoted were close to double the prices given by the top companies on trip advisor, which was disappointing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice - Was good
- Verified traveler (8/5): Brand new hotel with good service - Nice hotel, especially for the cheap price. Quite empty.
Location in a quiet street, 800m for the start of the busy district.
Breakfast was really poor (don't book it and find a place somewhere else would be better).
Would come back for sure
- Lillian (6/5): Wheelchair access - When booking we were told it was wheelchair friendly hotel - it is not!!!
Rooms are too small for wheelchairs to move about in. The showers do not have seats or rails for people with a disability. Wheelchair had to be manually lifted to dining area - not a good
Experience if you are in the wheelchair.
Lifts were constantly not working.
- Jess (10/5): Would definitely stay again - Very clean, lovely design, really nice helpful staff, nice food, convenient location to beach and shops.
- Rod (10/5): Great hotel for location and price - You get what you pay for - in the case of an Alea stay, you get more. The price of this recently built hotel was 30% cheaper than the hotel right next door. We checked it out to compare and yes it was a bit more flashier, 'but hey', what do you want. Breakfasts where fine without being great and there are so many good restaurants nearby that we found the hotels restaurant/bar handy for snacks and drinks. Be prepared for a bit of a walk (about 10 min to the beach and 5 min to the shop strip). Rooms were neat, big comfy beds and well maintained (by staff).
