• Thomas (10/5): Top indulgent Japanese hotel with private onsen - Truly the most exceptional hotel we have ever stayed in, perfect for ending our two week holiday to Japan. We were greeted with tea and light snacks by the friendliest staff, and were show to our room (which was really four connected rooms included a geothermally heated onsen in our bathroom). We helped ourselves to complimentary snacks and drinks in our room and changed into our Yukatas. Downstairs, we made use of the complimentary alcoholic drinks bar and sat on comfy sofas listening to soft jazz watching the trees in the garden. We then made use of the private outdoor onsen and headed for our included 8 course meal which was totally stunning, allowing us the opportunity to try a whole array of different Japanese cuisines. After sleeping well on our enormous bed we had a traditional multi-component breakfast and bade farewell to the loveliest hotel. Nothing it was just stunning

• Severin (9/5): Traditionelles und wundervolles Ryokan - Das Hotel wer so schön! Es hatte unglaublichen Charme. Es war ein total neues Erlebnis für uns. Das Hotelpersonal hat uns alles wunderbar erklärt und war wiederum extrem zuvorkommen und höflich. Das Essen war super lecker und auch da war das Erlebnis und unsere Bedienung im Mittelpunkt. Unser "Zimmer" war eher eine kleinere Wohnung! Unglaublich wie gross und schön es war. Es war für uns so, als wären wir im alten traditionellem Japan zuhause. Zusätzlich hatten wir einen privaten Onsen. Auch dieser war echt toll! Da es wirklich ans traditionellem Japan angelegt ist, sind die Wände relativ dünn. Wir hatten das Pech, dass kleine Kinder bei uns in der Nähe waren. Jedes Getrampel hat man gehört. Wir machen weder den Kindern noch dem Hotel einen Vorwurf. Wir können das gut ignorieren aber für andere könnte dies evt. störend sein. Der Preis ist stolz aber es war es uns definitiv wert!

• Jaena (10/5): Excellent - best property for the price. Would hope to visit again! - Every bit of this onsen / ryokan was intentionally crafted. We loved our stay here! We booked a private ryokan room which was well worth it with the private backyard views, even with rain (which added a subtle vibrancy and ASMR to the experience). Rooms were large and well maintained, especially since this property has been around since the 1600’s and the imperial family used to stay here! Another huge plus was the location - secluded and quiet enough to relax away from the busy tourist spots, but close enough to navigate to Gora and the other Hakone attractions easily. The staff and service were notably impressive, well organized, and exceptionally friendly. The property helped us grab a taxi to head back to Yumoto, and the food was both delicious and a form of art with all the plating. My favorite room was a curated, relaxation room with a traditional heater stove and a retro style speaker system that played jazz and classical music. Note that there’s a chance you might see beetles (which are harmless) and part of the onsen ecosystem. Just call the front desk and they’ll catch them for you! n/a

The staff was 10/10, the sauna and the pool were incredible, and the room was beautiful,everything was perfect. I would come back without thinking twice. It’s absolutely worth it. Thank you for everything. The only thing I would recommend is to keep a eye on the products offered in the sauna. For two nights, they were always empty and weren’t refilled. Otherwise, everything was amazing.

The fact that we had to upgrade and pay so so much turned our stay sour I told them that one of us cannot have fish and they told us that instead of replacing one ingredient we need to upgrade the meal. We said ok. But then they said that the whole table needs to upgrade. So all three of us even though not all of us wanted to. We also had a child (under 12) in our party and we were charged full price for the upgrade we didn’t want. A total of 39600 yen extra for a little meal upgrade. Really disappointing. We would not recommend this hotel.

• Johanna (9/5): - Very quiet and clean facilities. The meals were exceptionally tasty and carefully prepared, it felt like a luxurious meal. The public bath was relaxing and calm, the room was very big and comfortable we appreciated the free drinks in our room. It is a good idea to have a small shop and offer local souvenirs to be able to support local businesses in the area. We were not able to get massages, but it was our mistake for not booking in advance prior our stay.

• Kelly (6/5): Expensive but authentic. - The property is unique and the history is fantastic to learn about. The fact you have an onsen in your room is great. I don’t think there is much value for money at this hotel unfortunately. The food definitely helps justify the cost but if you do not like fish, you will not enjoy dinner or breakfast. I also didn’t like the nickel and diming that they do. For example, they charged extra for juice at breakfast and the waiter said we should try it but never said it was an extra charge. For the price you’re paying, these things should be included. It’s difficult to get to but it’s a great experience, just not the best bang for buck.

From our warm welcome and introduction to the hotel and property with Leela, our amazing meals (served by the lovely and hilarious Yoshida), to the comfort and coziness of our room. Additional perks included an impressive collection of toiletries in the bathroom, access to both private and public onsens, and free wine, beer, and sake served in the late afternoon/early evening. I had read the hotel was difficult to access, but they pre-arranged a taxi to pick us up and drop us off at the train station for a very reasonable rate (considering how much an Uber costs to go a few blocks in Los Angeles). Due to the location, I wasn't sure how many attractions we'd get to see, but there is a bus stop less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel with buses that took us to the lake (with views of Mt. Fuji) in one direction and the outdoor sculpture museum in another (both approximately 15-20 minute rides). Everyone who works here is so nice and friendly and made our stay very special! Our room had an enclosed outdoor onsen. I'm sure there is a reason it's enclosed, but as the view is very peaceful, it would have been nice to look.

I didn’t want the Japanese breakfast, I opted for a coffee and a juice… I had to pay for the juice which I thought was a bit much considering how expensive the night was.

• Stephen (10/5): Pricey but worth it - The hotel and facilities are beautiful. The staff will make you feel like Japanese royalty here. We had a room with a private onsen which was awesome. It was an expensive experience but worth it.
• Reva Srinivasan (10/5): Great onsen and wonderful; ryokan experience - We loved the bath in the big private onsen as well as the one in our room. Our room was spacious and beautiful keeping the traditional look with tatami floor mats. The be was comfortable and there was a samurai sword in our room. WE loved that the kitchen took trouble to present special vegan kaiseki meals. They were a visual treat and tasted great. The one challenge was the we had two floors in our room and had to go up a flight of stairs at night to use the toilet. I also did not know that they charge for an extra glass of juice for breakfast.
• Krishna Gotur (10/5): Lovely Ryokan Experience - The stay was excellent, the staff was extremely helpful and kind. They helped curate a vegetarian meal for two of our party, which was phenomenal. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and highly recommend this stay. Beds were a little firm, some might find that uncomfortable.

Çok güzel uyuduk Yemekler çeşitli idi fakat lezzet eksikliği vardı. Private bath’a daha fazla havlu konmalı, el duşu yoktu. Ertesi gün public bath bölümüne de girdik orayı çok beğendik. Oranın su sıcaklığı mükemmeldi, oysa private bath çok sıcaktı

It was the best experience during our stay in Japan. We had specious suite on the second floor and booked a private bath in the evening Jazz music during dinner needs to be changed for something traditional or silence. It was a bit off either way overall experience

Мы сбежали из этого отеля через сутки, хотя у нас были оплачены 2 суток, но находиться там невозможно, он неуютный, невкусный, вонючий. Персонал или ничего не знает, или отдаёт тебе ключи от онсена, а дальше сам разбирайся, или просит тебя доплатить за хлеб на завтрак, учитывая, что ты заплатил ну очень приличную сумму. В номерах воняет сигаретами, но это не они, а освежитель, который почему-то тут используют. Ужин кайсэки ужасный, мне есть с чем сравнить, это плохо: невкусно, не атмосферно. Из номеров вид на парковку. Зачем-то застелили деревянный пол ковролином дешёвым. Когда мы сбегали, я попросила главного менеджера, но мне сказали, что его там нет, а на все вопросы и претензии просто пожимали плечами. Оверпрайс за отсутствие сервиса — ну такое.
