Guest Reviews
- Robert (2/5): Waste of time - Terrible, it’s US$20 didn’t expect much. AC didn’t work, I can deal with that, smelled like mold, I can deal with that. Sheets were dirty and had to pay extra for towels, I can deal with that…. Bugs crawling over me when I wake up in the morning, that’s where I draw the line. Wanted to speak with someone and the front desk person wouldn’t answer my question because he couldn’t speak English while he was speaking perfect English. Spend an extra $20 and stay down the street at the Ramada on Austin st instead. Don’t waste your time with these twits they don’t deserve your money.
- Riley Ellington (2/5): - This hotel was quite literally the worst place I have ever stayed. Every picture that they have is fake and highly edited. There is mold, rust, bed bugs, a terrible smell, and my room had a constant drip going from the ceiling. Men stand outside of the location harassing you daily as you come in and out. There is no amount of money that could make me stay here again and the place should be shut down for it's frankly disgusting state. The owners are scammers and deserve none of your money. Do yourself a favor and find a different place to stay or you will be putting your entire vacation at risk.
- Peter W H (6/5): - Good place for backpackers. Money saving
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Totally different from photos
- SHING CHIN (2/5): - Bad
- Verified traveler (2/5):
- Mary J (2/5): - This place is horrible. We paid for our room, but didn’t end up staying in the room because the place was way too small for me and my husband. The pictures at hotels.com don’t do justice on how tiny the room is. The place is disgusting, smelly. The elevator to go up is non existent. You have to wait for atleast 30 min to 1 hour to wait for your turn to hop in to a tiny elevator that fits 4-5 people. To check in, you have to loop around so many doors to get to the check in area. So, we knew that we couldn’t stay at this place for our duration of the trip. We had to move to a different hotel but we did not check out yet because we don’t want them to let anyone use our room. When we came back, our room was already occupied with another guest. Not only they collected money from us but charged other people to use our room that was already paid for. They also collected money for cleaning and did not want to refund our money eventhough they knew that we did not stay there at all. We told the receptionist that we need a refund, and they refused to give us a refund. They knew that they were at wrong because they gave up our room to someone else, and all they can say was sorry...Do not bother to look at this room at all,the place is not worth it.
- Heni (4/5): bad room - very small, no space for 2 persons
- Verified traveler (2/5): - No words to described my experience while staying here....... not even the location, surrounding enviroment, lift, hotel rooms condition totally different as photo shown and also the staff service...... Everything here really bad experience to me......
- Obi (4/5): -
- Verified traveler (2/5): never go D&N,very bad experience. - the room is totally different from the photo, too small for 2 people. they asked for Extra service fee
I didn't see any extinguishable equipment. very gangrenous building
- Verified traveler (4/5): Service Charge - 1. Couldn’t find our booking when we arrived
2. Our booking didn’t come from Whatif but another entity. Subsequently they insisted on a service charge of 15%. The service charge was only noticeable after the booking confirmation not pre booking. I’ve neger been charged a service fee ever before booking through Whatif.
3. Not impressed with this entity
- Rohit (2/5): - It was not at all comforting. We feel cheated and the location is only neutral point.
We were asked to pay HKD 120 atvtime of checkin making total payment by INR 1000.
It is less than 1 *.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - comfortable
- Vin (4/5): Not recommended. - The only good thing about this hostel is its proximity to transportation. The place looks depresing and it's dirty specially the bathroom.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice and cheap and bedbug ridden - Clean, comfortable and easy, but I got proper attacked by bedbugs.. so there is that..
- Hui Ping (8/5): Clean,great location, - Great location,clean
- Aaron Dan Paul (8/5): - Hotel Staffs Singh and Sam are very accommodating and friendly. The Hotel is as expected with the price tag.
- Arfel (8/5): All the staff are nice & accomodating. - The filipina staff named Mila if I'm not mistaken is very nice, she will give you tips on how to save money on our trip. Kudos to Sam, Raul, & sumry for giving us good deals on tickets and gives us instructions on how to get to our destinations. I will definitely recommend this hotel because of the warm welcome by the staff. Thank you for accommodating us. See you again next time :)
- Bubacarr (8/5): - I had a great stay, Sam is such an exceptional and a charming guy, he is always smiling and willing to assist. Maila and Sunny where also very helpful. It's such a great experience. It's a well recommended place to stay.
- Bubacarr (8/5): Friendly Atmosphere - I've stayed in few hotels around the world and this was one of the nicest. It is very conveniently located with most of the major sites and many restaurants within pleasant, easy walking distance.
The receptionist Sonu was such charming and helpful fellow. His wonderful charisma keeps me coming back. Sunny and Peter are also helpful and friendly. My room was of average size, furnished to a high standard, very clean and tidy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Miniature Getaway Perfect for Layover on a Budget! - Definitely will be a memory I cherish! If you're looking for a luxury hotel, this isn't it. If you're looking for a quaint, Hong Kong experience, this is definitely a great place to start! Intimate, clean rooms. Tiny bathroom with a shower over the toilet! Wouldn't have traded the experience for any amount of luxury, but bring your own towel! Beware hustlers outside. Food at your doorstep. Perfect for the price.
- phil (2/5): terrible - never stay here bah bah bah.........
..
.......
..
- Gracey (6/5): Good for Budget hotel - Booked a family room for 4 of us, bed was just nice little squeezy. Room was very small so it is very squeezy. Staffs were friendly and helpful, especially staff Raj. Good location, near bus stop and mtr station. Walkable distance to ferry for macau or hk island.
Need to queue up for lift, longest time I waited was 20 mins. Overall, good enough for Budget hotel.
- william (2/5): Misleading - The picture displayed is misleading and it does not reflect the true rooms that is the worst ever that i have experienced. The picture is a scam and you people better have a look atbthe rooms before showing the pictures that are not real
- Group (6/5): Beddings need to be changed after used/check out - Easy to access but need improvement on their cleaning service.
- Narantsetseg (6/5): Good location small room - Room is small, okay for solo travellers and location is good, good value for the money paid. Overall it was okay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): No good - Will never be back on that place again for sure. Terrible.
- arm (2/5): Terrible environment - Room is tooooo narrow hair dryer is not work , and the environment is very bad , bad smell
- Jody (8/5): - Small and clean, had no problems there. Some people complain about Chungking mansions, but its fine really. Not luxurious, but if youre on a budget, the single bed room is great value
- Jingles (4/5): stay for a day!!! - very average premises and service...no toiletries. ...no towel..stained linen..I could keep going eg same key opens every room..fire detector hanging loose..toilet seat not connected to fixture..prolonged checkin. .mould at hand basin..booked a double and got 2 tiny single beds and a 10 cm gap..hmmm..lucky just for short overnight stay
- Boon (8/5): Good in level 10 - Good location, safe security and friendly staffs.
- Anji (4/5): Pics can be deceiving - Looking at the pictures on the website it looked like we were going to have an ok room but when we actually saw it after going through the stalls at the first floor, it seemed that the bed was not cleaned well and there was not enough space for the luggage to fit in.
- Gordon (2/5): Cheap but scary - A cheap hotel with some issues getting to your room after registration you are sent to one of a dozen different named hotels not the one you booked. In my case I was sent to as yet to be named hotel on the 17 th floor reached by a dirty elevator and then climb one floor thru a totally discusting stairwell the room was brand new and clean but lacked clean towels every day and a desk agent though I did see him sleeping on the floor one morning I would suggest you visit this site on a company level.
- Thomas (4/5): Hostel not hotel - The room is very small , infact there is only room
For a bed and standing floor room for one person. It's above a market full of people grabbing you and harassing you on the way in , it's very intimidating , the lifts are tiny and cramped and it's the 15th floor . The staff are very blunt and not very helpful, the whole place seem unsafe , with people coming and going . The only thing good is that the location is near the shops and the room is clean and the wifi is good , I would only recommend here for someone on a tight budget traveling alone who was male , not ideal for a female as the people on the way to the hotel are very "grabby "
- Grant (2/5): Day and nite hotel - Small rooms hotel is hard to locate above a market as soon as you walk out the market door you get hassled by locals to buy watches and to rent other hotels don't waste your money hotel has a 1 directional elevator so if you want to go up from level 4 example you have to go to ground floor then up to level you want elevator and you could be waiting 15 mins to get in elevator as its literally 1.5 m square
- Verified traveler (6/5): Convenient location - Close to metro station and to restaurants. Lots of shops close by.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not worth - Rooms were different than that showed in pics while booking
- Verified traveler (4/5): For Budget travelers - I stayed a couple of nights. Pretty typical Hong Kong budget hotel. Very small. But good location.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Good location, extremely cramped. - We stayed in a double room which definitely was not a double room size, it was barely a single room. You walked in and it was just big enough to fit a double bed - three sides of which were butted up against the wall so this along with there being no windows gave the feeling of being in a coffin! There was just enough room at the end of the bed for a small table under which was a fridge. The room was clearly only just big enough for one person so two people trying to share it for 4 nights was very difficult. We were also right next to the main door to the rooms so every time someone went through, it beeped and the door crashed against our wall waking us in the early hours.
Positives are that the wifi was strong, the bed was comfy and clean and the location was very central.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - room is too small unlike in the picture, room is different from the picture, toilet flush not working
- udit (6/5): Easy access to almost everthing. - The hotel is at prime location, can get almost everything at just walking distance only. And also u can get indian food easily here. The hotel staff is also very good especially harry, aman and peter. Will recommend this hotel for sure.
- Lisa (6/5): Nice cheap friendly place for backpackers - This place is a little hidden and not easy to find. But cheap and very nice staff. The roomes are for sleeping and not more. All very small and noisy. But all in all nice if you want to spend little money for a room in the expensive Hong Kong city.
- Lubna (10/5): Ideal location - Kowloon guest house - This guesthouse was in a ideal location and was close to transportation systems. The rooms were very clean but the lifts and stairwells were quite dirty. Staff was very friendly and assisted with moving my room for me.
- pauline (6/5): Near MTR, convenient - Basic room for rest, don't expect much. But the staff are very friendly and helpful.
- William (6/5): Good Value considering the cost of living in HK - We stayed on the 6th floor in Chunking Mansions. To the uninitiated, the Chunking Mansions can be described as a cross between the Star Wars Cantina, and that drug den in the 2012 Dredd movie. It can get a bit tedious when you're constantly being hassled to buy a suit/watch/drugs/sex in the Chunking Mansions but as a pseudo-seasoned traveller I like to think I have a good immunity to these things.
I can't really say too many bad things about my room. It was clean, they did give me fresh towels on a daily basis and the hot water kettle was a god send (since tap water is undrinkable without being boiled first in HK) I had a double bed all too myself and paid what would be ~AU$50/night, which all my relatives and family friends is a steal in HK. The only downside is that my room didn't have a window which I know isn't the hostel's fault, they are limited by the actual layout of the building. The air con was a beast though and it kept the temperature in good check. As people already mentioned, the location is extremely convenient. I would recommend it to other friends but probably not to single female travellers (apologies if this sounds chauvinistic) only because whilst I'm sure single female travellers are very switched on people, the types that hang out on the ground floor, with lack of better words I don't think will hesitate in trying to take advantage of single females due to cultural differences/upbringing etc.
My overal rating would be 3.5/5 but the site wouldn't let me
