Guest Reviews
- Paulina (10/5): - Lindo
Hace falta mantenimiento y cuidado. Espero que lo puedan mejorar.
- Rafael (10/5): - MUY BONITO
- Juan (6/5): - Esta muy bonita pero requiere mantenimiento
- Samuel (8/5): - This property was full of character and great architecture. Great location on the hill overlooking the downtown area.
- roland (6/5): - Pillow cases had yellow stains on them.
A/C defective: Reception stated they would take cash only on an Expedia reservation due to card terminal connection issue supposedly upon check-in.
Found that room had a non-functioning a/c later on and when reception staff was informed, staff confirmed that they knew that the a/c was not working but unfortunately could not do anything about it due to being fully booked. Only stayed this one night and will be staying elsewhere next time!
- Alice (2/5): - The hotel was advertised to have a pool and a restaurant. They were both closed.
- Saul (4/5): - The staff was great, but the property is in dire need of an upgrade. The furniture is in terrible condition no air conditioning and no ramps available
- Karen (4/5): - It was an underwhelming feeling as seeing that a lot of the furniture, blankets were worn down and it didn’t feel like the place was worth the price. The location is good but I would’ve stayed somewhere else at that price. Staff was nice and helpful.
- Carolina (8/5): - Perfect location
- Daniel (10/5): - ESTUVO BIEN LA ESTANCIA, AUNQUE FALTO AIRE ACONDICIONADO Y SERVICIO DE RESTAURANTE POR LA TARDE.
- Javier (10/5): - Service was great staff wonderful and helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location, friendly staff - Our room was clean, as best we could tell with multiple missing or not working light bulbs. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the bathroom space was also ample. We were away from the street, so noise was not an issue, but definitely could be for rooms on the street: the busses are loud going up and down the hill. Location is great: literally a minute walk from El Mirador, with a stunning view, and only a 5-10 minute walk to food, drinks, and museums/churches. There was a coffeemaker in the room, but no service provided (I asked - no coffee, no cups, nothing). And although technically the hotel restaurant opened at 8 am, it still wasn't open by 8:30 the morning that I really wanted to just get coffee there without walking. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Property needs to be renovated. Went with a group of 14 (7 rooms) at each room had an issue. The turn off the water around 1am and don't turn back on until 6am. Our sink was clogged up. Water took forever to get hot for showers.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's a nice traditional place with warm staff and the beautiful location
- David.Y (8/5): - The hotel is a little run down but nice it goes with the towns look and vibe. My only problem with the hotel was its towels they have seen better days the mattress are a little hard, but the view to the city is awesome...one more thing if you are booking do not pay for a master suit get the cheapest room avalible cause thier is no such thing as a master suit the are all the same thing....
- Yolanda (8/5): Cantinflas’ house - The hotel is located in a great location. The suite was very clean and spacious. The balcony was also very big and overlooked the town and beautiful garden. It’s full of flowers. The beautiful view is due to how high up it is. Be prepared to walk up hill from downtown to the hotel and then up 75 stairs to your room.
BTW, was once Cantinflas’ house.
- Isabel (8/5): - Love it, a lot of stairs, was my morning exercise but wonderful view, nice walking to downtown so much to see in the way, we are thinking on comeback
- Verified traveler (4/5): - HAY UNA ERMITA ANTIGUA QUE ES BONITA PERO NO SE PUEDE VISITAR
- Luz Janeth (8/5): - EL AIRE ACONDICIONADO NO FUNCIONA Y HACE MUCHISIMO CALOR POR LO CONSIGUIENTE NO PUDIMOS DORMIR Y LAS AVITACIONES QUE DAN A LA AVENIDA TAMPOCO SE PUEDE DORMIR YA QUE TODO EL TIEMPO HAY MUCHO RUIDO
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotel is on a hill and very difficult to walk to. No stores nearby to buy snacks or a coffee. The restaurant service is really bad. Only one waiter by the name of Delfino was kind and helpful when he was on his shift. I will not stay there again.
- Alberto (8/5): Acogedor - Buen servicio y buena ubicación...
- Marco (6/5): - The property is okay only complaint is that there was only 2 plugs for charging phones and the room didn't have sufficient lighting.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - No quisieron cancelación pese a causa de fuerza mayor,
- Verified traveler (6/5): - They didnt have ac. Pool was dirty. Sheets were dirty. But workers were nice
- Verified traveler (6/5): - El hotel tuvo mejores dias.
- Elizabeth (6/5): - Habitación aceptable, check in sencillo y rápido
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel pintoresco.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The place was really nice. The staff was friendly but I never got the fan I asked for. It was really hot that night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Patience and a good spirit required... - We're grateful for our stay at Hotel Posada la Ermita, and we're glad hotels.com gave us a deeply discounted rate for staying 3 nights ($28/night) because it would have otherwise not been worth the price. The first room they put us in was incredibly beautiful and we were grateful for the perceived free upgrade, then we discovered that we were put into the room with the kitchen and the air conditioning not functioning. I'm 5 months pregnant and the weather was near 90 degrees so it was pretty uncomfortable. It'll be great once they have these rooms actually complete and comfortable. Also, the wifi for this first room did not connect.
They moved us into another room which reflected the room we actually booked. It was definitely not as new and nice as the first suite they put us in, but we enjoyed the patio. The couch had a hole and a huge soft dent in it, making it unusable. Also, the toilet wouldn't fill to flush when we first arrived in the room. Then it randomly began working again, but then emitted a high pitched noise that ran all day.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - THE ROOM (#9) WAS OLD, IT HAS OLD THE MATRESSES (ONE QUEEN AND ONE TWIN) MY TRIP WAS IN NOVEMBER AND THE ROOM IT'S VERY COLD, THE BLANKETS ARE OLD TOO, THE PHONE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE LOBBY AND IT WAS NOT WORKING, THE LIGHTS AND THEY HAVE A COFFEE POT BUT NO GROUND COFFEE , SUGAR, CREAM. THEY CHARGE A HIGH PRICE AND IT IS NOT WORTH IT.
- Julien H. (10/5): Would love to stay here again - Had a great time at this hotel I would 100% stay here again. Staff was very friendly and even carried our suitcases all the way up to our room for us. Room had plenty of space and even a balcony with an amazing view. Recommend this place to anyone staying in San Miguel.
- Disappointed (8/5): - Good place, but is bad to park your car. A lot of stairs to the room. They sell you a nice city view from your room and when you arrived at your room, the only view you going to get is trees 🌲 a lot of them.
- SusanH (8/5): - So many stairs, be sure and tell them if you need a lower room, lots of elevation. This hotel was stunning in its day and could use an injection of TLC and new bedding all around!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Only stay here if you are a Cantinflas fan. - Old and cold hotel. Rooms are freezing at night and worn out. Only extra blankets. Very old. Sheets smell bad, carpets are dirty and stained. No elevator and tons of stairs so not handicap accesible or third age friendly. They charged me $120 dlls per night only because it was high season. Not worth your money. Management and the staff were very kind and helpful but that was pretty much it. Oh and the only perk is the amazing view of San Miguel.
- Jason (8/5): - Great value for the money, but the property is a bit dated.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great view - Te view was awesome but the wall to get to the room was tough. From the lobby out suite was about 150 steps up to get to the door. We stayed in suite 24. I don't think it would be as bad if we were on a lower level. The room was a bit dirty when we arrived. The bedding seemed old and beds were not comfortable. The pool was not heater bit for the hot weather it was just fine. I would stay there just again just not at the same suite. Staff was very pleasant.
- Jose (4/5): - Beautiful house but not prepared for senior people and in a street under construction. In many cases, one gets a favorable rate when there are inadequate conditions but, in this case, we paid in full for suites that were not accesible for our seniors traveling with us; air conditioning was not working and getting to the hotel was almost impossible because of construction work. Parking is limited and the driver damaged my SUV; no explanation or reimbursement was offered.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel... Cute... could use new beds - It was a nice hotel, rustic and perfect fit for the area. They differently need new beds. Was nice to have parking. Staff was nice.
- Brenda (8/5): Feels like home - Suites with living room and large private terrace.
- Danny (6/5): - The place is clean and looks very nice, the beds are horrible! To small and very in comfortable , the coffe and tea maker in the room is there, BUT if you want to use it it cost $35 pesos per cup???? And no other option
- Juan (8/5): - The sheets were stain Beds were old and pillows not very comfortable. Beautiful view to the city.
- Ferran (10/5): excellent view to allende - dona Barbara and Catalino were quiet attentive to our needs during our stay
- Verified traveler (2/5): Disaster stay in beautiful San Miguel - Had to pay for WiFi, the lamps we’re not working, in a nutshell I would never recommend this place!
- Roberto (6/5): Great original experience - I bit cold very nice architecture great view awesome ppl
- Gilberto (10/5): Convenient to SMA - Good hotel with a great view of San Miguel de Allende. It is only a 10-minute walk downhill from the main square. Amenities were good. The shower was HUGE! The lobby area looked a little dated, and there was a need for a deposit if you wanted to have a remote control. Overall a pretty good place for a one-night stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very old, dated and dirty. - Matresses are so old that you could feel the curvature on your back. Bathroom Dirty.
Facilities are beautiful, and gives you the traditional, colonial feel. But it is very old, and in desperate need for deep cleaning.
I would´t stay again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): I left after only looking at the room. - The staff was not polite and the hotel is terrible.
- Evie (6/5): Beautiful Hotel - Beautiful hotel, except no elevator to go to top floor. The temperature was around in the 80 degrees with no air conditioning
Very hot ,they offered us a fan which was blowing hot air.We could not sleep at night,we where miserable
- Jorge (6/5): Renovation needed - They have a beautiful place, with lots of potential, but they are letting it die.
Towels are completely worn out, rooms are falling apart. Renovation desperately needed.
- Maria Socorro (6/5): Excellent view - This hotel is in great need of room remodeling overall including furniture, and new or no carpet. ( very old towels ) Lobby area needs a boost to make it more appealing. It is a very very beautiful view but we opted to stay out all day because we had to climb 110 steps to our room - - very tiring and plus the hotel needs to make itmore interesting to at least have guest entertainment. Staff are wonderful of course they work with what they are given it is not the staff's fault
- Sergio (8/5): Big Hotel former house of actor Mario Moreno - The hotel is big and lays atop of a hill with beautiful views and lots of stairs to get to your room although, in San Miguel de Allende, everywhere you go is climbing or going down the street.
- wilhelm (6/5): Not my cup of tea! - Hotel is a nice retreat if you like a beautiful view of the city, are not adverse to taking a long steep hike into the city center, like to be around families, and enjoy a little nostalgia. The rooms were huge with a tv and a
phone in the room. If you're looking for a charming and romantic posada with a good breakfast and close to town ,this is not the place for you. I would have preferred the latter.
- xio (8/5): Walking minutes to city center. - Great experience overall. Did not provide cold bottled water. No refrigerators in the room. Not much variety in the menu. Need to update the carpeting in the rooms. Loved the history of the hotel and the very large suites.
- Patrick (8/5): Great view, needs some updating - Hotel staff, the lobby & grounds are very nice. Pool is clean and well kept. Overall this place is very charming and loaded with "character" and some interesting history. The hotel is perched on a hillside overlooking the city below. Be prepared there are a lot of stairs to climb to get to your room. Each room has a covered balcony and the views are stunning! While we were there, on several mornings hot air balloons filled the sky above the city. It was "picture perfect".
The hotel is in need of some updates. Time to replace the TV's, install flat screen sets. Also invest in some new mattresses and bedding. Lastly, internet was only available in the lobby and even then it was less than adequate. Wireless internet in each room is pretty much todays standard.
By implementing these features they could easily increase their rates and recoup the costs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great view from the Hotel - It has a beautiful view from San Miguel de Allende. It is only one block from the mirador.
- Michael (6/5): I'm torn. - This is one of the more difficult reviews I've written. Let's put it this way...they're doing the best with what they have and for the rates they charge, it's pretty good because San Miguel is way overpriced. (Go to Guanajuato, it's way better)
Positives:
1. Views from higher rooms. Looking out over the whole city, early morning balloons floating by. Don't know if they could be better.
2. Rooms - very quaint. Barrel vault brick ceilings make you feel like you're staying in an old European villa.
3. Balconies - very large with a nice table and chairs.
4. Staff - quite accommodating, many lacked English. Provided us with ice each evening and extra glasses and towels for hot springs at no cost. Always quick to open the garage door when we needed.
Negatives:
1. Noise - not really the hotel's fault in most cases. Church bells at 6 am Sundays, roosters, train (far away and neigbors dog that barked when we "stood" on the deck (sitting was okay). They need to negotiate his demise. Lower units may be quieter, try the left side rooms (as you face hotel)
2. Freezing pool - choose this hotel for our 6 year old to swim - impossible. Install a black hose and a pump and heat your water with the sun!! Cheap!
3. Stairs - not a negative for most but if you have mobility/knee issues do not choose this hotel. 112 steps to our room: that's about 8 flights up! Views come with a cost.
4. Not far to town but far when you walk back, it's uphill.
5. Beds are old.
