Guest Reviews

- Abby (2/5): Really disappointing - wouldn’t recommend. - Not in a great location - further away from train station than expected and up a hill. Staff were not particularly helpful - even though room was ready would not let us in to the room a minute before check in time. Would not let us leave luggage the day of check out. Offered us a service to have luggage taken and kept at train station - was extremely overpriced. Felt like every question we asked, the answer was no. The accommodation was very dated and not good value for the price.

- Felipe (7/5): - Do quarto super espaçoso Sem opções de alimentação
- Giovanni Allegra (8/5): - Ottima colazione Hotel da rimodernare
- Rumyana (10/5): Highly recommend - It was very spacious and clean. It had everything that we would need, the Onsen was great, too. A perfect place for relaxation. Everything was great, I wish I stayed longer.
- Ricardo (9/5): Een oase van rust. - Prachtige traditionele kamer. Fijne privé onsen. Mooi hotel
- Sylvia XiaoFei (5/5): -
- Jodi (9/5): Quiet, clean, traditional - Huge room very traditional nice onsen.
Very quiet, nice PJs, very clean.
Lovely setting!
Should have booked for longer!
Very nice I was on my own and only there 24 hours. Staff didn’t let me check in earlier even though I just wanted to leave my bags in the room and go to the bathroom before Hakone loop. They were not full they could’ve let me but instead made me leave my bags in lobby which was ok but as a solo person I really didn’t like leaving my laptop in a lobby not in a locked room. The bathroom wasn’t very nice specifically the wooden bathtub. I preferred onsen. It’s a walk uphill from the train station approx 8-10 mins

- FAUDON (10/5): - Equipe au top !
Très attentionné , chambre spacieuse et très propre.
Onsen privé fabuleux.
Merci à tous. Rien
- Daniel (5/5): -
- Martyna (10/5): -
- Jonas Stefan (7/5): - Great access to Hakone and surroundings. Bathtub shows signs of early mold, due to wood. Rooms could be decorated more warmer, feel empty.

- Adrian (8/5): Nice but questionable value - Nice, but at $500+ /night it was somewhat disappointing. We spent 3 weeks in Japan and this was the most expensive hotel by a considerable margin, though certainly not the best or 2nd best either, maybe 5th or 6th all things considered.. But it's a very nice hotel just the same, just a bit disappointed . Big room but sparsely furnished with a small coffee table and two single chairs, no sofa etc leaving ample room I guess to spread extra Futons for larger groups. Traditional quality Japanese clothing provided was great fun and enabled fab picture taking opportunities. Convenient location to walk down into town though if you have heavy baggage take a taxi which only cost Y1,200. Our private spa was no bigger than a small bath tub. We experienced bigger tubs in other stays. Also the spring water was indistinguishable from regular tap water. The in room TV was full of Japanese tv channels, not even one western station or you tube, Netflix etc. Despite having a balcony overlooking the small river, you could not see the water unless you stood at the balcony railing as the railing is not see through. Far too cold in mid March to leave the doors open to even hear the sounds of water flowing over the rocks.

- Brenna (8/5): A Lovely, relaxing ryokan - The peaceful ambiance of the property. It was very relaxing and had a really nice energy to the hotel. It was clean and the staff were very friendly. Slightly outdated facilities, particularly in the bathroom.
- Amel (10/5): Superb stay - The room were so comfortable and big, loved the onsen experience, breakfast was so good and location was perfect. NA

- Pedro Benedini (5/5): Good location, but far from being a good hotel due to moldy rooms and terrible staff support. - The only redeeming quality of this property was its proximity to the lake. The location is decent, but unfortunately, that was the only positive aspect of my experience. The staff was extremely unhelpful and I felt completely unsupported. When I arrived in a nearby town and couldn't find transport, I called for assistance, but they essentially told me to figure it out on my own. The room condition was also unacceptable: the bathroom was tiny and had visible mold in several places, which is a serious hygiene issue. Additionally, the air conditioning was malfunctioning and fluctuated constantly, making it hard to relax.
- Katharina (9/5): -

- Stephanie (8/5): - Tout était parfait. Mieux que les photos!!!! Relaxant à souhait. J'aimerais y revenir.
- Catherine (10/5): Peaceful, recharged and pampered - Second time at Hakone Pax Yoshino and loved it again. The facilities are lovely, with big public onsens and additional options including a Japanese breakfast buffet (can book your room with this options), private onsen for 3,300¥, and a lovely traditional dinner.
We booked a room with a (very) small private onsen we ran for ourselves but it was so lovely to have our own space and enjoy the peace and quiet. All the food was excellent, the staff were lovely, and I would absolutely come back a third time! Option for a double bed rather than just two rooms would be lovely for couples, but understand it is a traditional design!
- Samantha (7/5): - Good location and I enjoyed the Onsen, wich was nice (but not spectacular). I really enjoyed the private Onsen which you see in all the pictures. Don’t mistake this as in your room, you have to book and pay for it separately but it is worth it. Also the breakfast was outstanding. Overall I enjoyed my experience and I would go again if it was a better price. You will have a good stay here, I did, but lower your expectations and be surprised. I don’t think the price reflects what you get. Although I enjoyed my stay and time, it is a little dated and worn. Also there is no place to get food or a drink (alcoholic) unless you book the pre fix dinner and it’s impossible to get a spot. Then when I asked for suggestions they were not helpful at all, so do some research ahead of time. I did t find the service overly helpful and had to figure out how too get to the hotel myself (I asked them and no one responded). There is a shuttle but it’s too full most of the time so you can’t get on it (it stops at other locations). Lastly, the view isn’t what they show on the site, you look at a parking lot. You still get some nature and the location is good but don’t expect to be looking at the forest.
- Turturica (7/5): Nice location, but rooms should be updated. - Nice location, very peaceful. Very old, outdated but not in a good sense and strange smell in the room.
- Enrico (10/5): -
- Ross (5/5): - Breakfast buffet was fantastic. Initial Room had a strong odor- asked to change it but was told it would cost money to do so. After pushing back was offered a room next to the other one which was slightly better smell wise but definitely weathered looking. Other rooms looked better and had been renovated.
- Thomas (7/5): Ryokan plutôt sympa, manque un peu d’esthétique et de confort quand on est grand - Petit déjeuner correct, rapport qualité/prix ok, lit confortable Plafond trop bas à certains endroits, ryokan assez peu esthétique, emplacement pas idéal à pied
- Alexander (10/5): Perfect romantic stay - Huge clean room, nice staff, wonderful onsen, rich and delicious breakfast, all bathing needs provided, beautiful views.
- Joaquin (9/5): - Muy rico y completo el desayuno, buena ubicación. Excelente los spa privados, valen la pena.
Buena instalaciones.
- Nikita (8/5): -
- Wesley (9/5): -
- Aline (9/5): - Excellent hotel. Superb staff. Beds very confortable. If you get the river view, it's just perfect. Although 15mins walking to the train station, the hotel is located in a wonderful spot, just next to a river and you can sleep with the sound of it. Breakfast buffet also very good.
- Sebastian (8/5): - Das Frühstücksbuffet war vielfältig.
- Toshio (8/5): -
- Narelle (10/5): Friendly and respectful staff. Clean and accessible, lovely variety for breakfast - Everything
- Janina (9/5): Top Räumlichkeiten, gute Lage. - Das private Onsen und die Matratzen. Habe sehr gut geschlafen.
- László (9/5): Szuper hely! Nyugodt pihenés! - A szálloda nagyon csendes környéken volt. Kipróbáltuk a közös fürdőt is, ami nagyon tetszett.

- Bernhard (9/5): -
- Emilia (10/5): Excellent ryokan style hotel with great onsen & facilities. - Facilities, room, onsen.
- Eliyahu (8/5): -
- Adam (10/5): A very relaxing experience especially if the baths are used frequently - All facilities were widely available and highly convenient. In fact, this is our second stay since the last visit to Hakone.
- rosa maria (10/5): Struttura perfetta! A 10 minuti a piedi dalla stazione. Stanza tradizionale molto grande e arredata benissimo. Pulitissi - Tutto
- Ellie (9/5): - Great large and comfortable rooms. Good location. Private osen was very nice !
- Rose (9/5): It was a lovely relaxing way to end our stay in Japan. - Lovely property. Attentive and helpful staff. Thoughtful amenities including yukatas for us all. Gorgeous onsen. Gluten free options for me at breakfast which was a relief.
- Ilaria (6/5): -
- Marc Fortysax (9/5): -
- Monika (8/5): - Amazing in general, nice onsen, big rooms. I booked non smoking room but the smell of cigarettes was still there. The smell was very strong, it was hard for me to stay there. Even falling asleep I smelled cigs.
Onsen privativo bem aconchegante. Eu me hospedaria novamente.
- Mathias (9/5): -
- ED (9/5): - beautiful hotel and location. very kind service. The room was big and very well equipped. The public Onsen was great and the in-room bath is also a kind of an Onsen. We choose a river side room which gives you the feeling of staying on the river bank.
- Nicola (9/5): -
- Hannah (9/5): - Loved our traditional Japanese room. It was spacious and overlooked the river! The provided yukata was beautiful. Thanks for a nice stay!
- Nigel (10/5): -
- gattersack (2/5): Smelly and unpleasant - We were persuaded by friends to try the 'ryokan' experience; and asked our travel agent to build this into our visit to Mount Fuji / Hakone. From arrival to departure, staff were unhelpful and at times just plain rude. The hotel smelt of smoke, stale sweat and damp. The rooms were tired and smelly and the room onsen was a small wooden bath in which it would be hard to relax. And because of the single sex nature of the public baths, the only option for a couple was to invest in the expensive private rooms.
The restaurant offered a very full menu, but as vegetarians (and indeed with some allergies), we asked for plain rice and vegetables from the menu. We made it very clear by highlighting just those items on the menu - but when we sat at our table, the staff insisted on bringing us every dish on the menu, just for us to reject it (a terrible waste of food), because it was required by their manager.
And so noisy - our room was next door a car park where lorries seemed to park up and leave in the early hours.
There is absolutely nothing that I could recommend about this hotel - just don't go there. If the rating system had a 'no stars' button, that's where I would be clicking.
- Toni (9/5): Big room on the river - We had a triple share room so one futon was made up on the floor. Rooms were big with free amenities. Located on the river the hotel was about 14 mins walk from the station & slightly uphill. We took backpacks overnight thankfully - it would be a bit tough with suitcases.
The hotel supplies yukata's to wear too - I didn't but so many guests wear them around.
Buffet breakfast was varied but good for trying new foods.
- Sergio (10/5): -
- Ashleigh (8/5): -
- Melanie (9/5): Heerlijk.
- N6041QHdavids (8/5): Pleasant stay - Just a one night stay but very pleasant. You can use tge hot spring baths communal (naked) for free or private for about 3000 yen. Our stay included an evening meal which was excellent. Short walk to the town centre about 10 mins. Signs say not to feed the mo keys but didn't see any.
- Jane (8/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely private onsens and great breakfast. Room was big! A little dated and the location was quite far from the station. There was a shuttle bus though
- Mitchell (10/5): - The staff couldn’t do enough for us, so friendly at all times. I enjoyed it all.
- Tracy483 (6/5): Nice but could be amazing - There have been wide variations in reviews on this hotel/Ryokan and we were apprehensive to say the least.
The hotel is a fair trek from the station. Not the best location for views. The hotel wasn’t the most pleasing to the eye and the lobby was a bit tired and the carpets needed a clean. Our room (406) was a pleasant surprise. We had a traditional Japanese room with western beds. Very big, clean, but the bathroom is very dated and could do with being replaced as with the toilet.
The hotel had Onsens both private and public. All of them served by the natural hot springs. We hired a private onsen for an hour which was super.
Our package included dinner - fabulous, although we had to eat by 7pm. The food was pure Japanese and served up beautifully.
- Linda (8/5): - Very nice onsen and dining
- Parker (10/5): Large extra clean rooms, good buffet breakfast, excellent location close to downtown, walking or by - This room was larger than other Hotel rooms we visited in Japan. Very clean with all the toiletries needed for several days. The buffet breakfast had items for every taste, also very clean and well organized. The lobby had nice comfortable seating with refreshments to enjoy while we waited for our 3:00pm check-in. This was a perfect stay for us, nothing could have been better.
- Danijela (7/5): It is not worth that money - The location and having onsen The smell of the room was not fine. Also the western breakfast was not great
- Bernardo (8/5): - The rooms were great - clean and spacious. The dinner service was exceptional. The spa amenities were exceptional. However there was a bar smell on the hotel corridor.
