• Brian (7/5): Good location but noise was disappointing as it was hard to sleep complicated by fumes from recently painted doors - Location is great with fantastic ocean views Very noisy at night from ocean frontage road and hotels own music. Staff Painted doors to adjacent maintenance room and AC sucked volatile fumes into the bedroom. Too hot to have windows open but had to so bugs came in and bit us. Even noisier with windows open. No equivalent room available so stuck with burning eyes and throat and insect bites for two nights

• Brian (7/5): A nice hotel but be wary of noisy ocean frontage rooms - Good location with nice ocean views Very noisy at night due to partying along ocean frontage road and hotels own music. Lack of western breakfast options. Also had issues with painting of adjacent maintenance room doors and bad kerosene smell from paint volatiles. Had to turn off AC and open windows which let in bugs and increased noise so between insect bites and burning eyes and throat and raucous noise stay was not that pleasant for two nights out of six.

• Caroline (6/5): Good but tired Needs some tlc - Location is on the water which is lovely and a great spot to watch the stunning sunsets. Bedrooms are a good size with very comfortable beds. Breakfast has a good selection to choose from. There are free water dispensers on every floor Check in staff weren’t very friendly unlike the rest of them. The bed sheets were clean but very stained. They need new ones The bath room had been superficially cleaned but there was mould all in the sink and anywhere where there was silicone Not only disgusting but it’s a health hazard. Not sure why they bother advertising they have a gym as most of the equipment is broken.
• Caroline (5/5): Good but needs some tlc - The swimming pool is great - overlooking the ocean makes it a nice place to stay. The rooms are a good size with comfortable beds. Make sure to get an ocean side room. Road side is cheaper as it is noisier. A very good breakfast is served in the mornings by very friendly staff. Water dispensers are in every floor offering free cold drinking water. Check in staff weren’t very welcoming. The sheets although clean were stained and old. The bathroom was only superficially clean with black mould all in the sink and around the toilet. There used to be a safe in the bedrooms but there aren’t any anymore.
• RICHARD (5/5): NO BALCONY in my balcony room! Noisey sea view side road! - It was a pretty decent room overall with great view, and had windows open… which for me is essential. But I had paid for a balcony room to ensure I got this. Got the windows but not the balcony:)) The room description is wrong. It states there is a balcony and they are just two opening windows. It was INCREDIBLY noisy outside with local kids obviously celebrating something. I got up at 4 o’clock for my flight and it was still noisy then. Fortunately I am a pretty good sleeper and use AirPods with audiobooks to get off to sleep.

• Caroline (6/5): 6/10 stay. - Great size pool, good breakfast and decent size bedroom. The air con was broken. After an hour of the technician trying to fix it he said he couldn't and that they would move us to another room. I was in a twin bedded room with my sister. They said they could only move us to a room with a double bed in it. They said there were no twin bedded rooms available and they refused to give us two bedrooms. We asked for a floor fan. They don't have any. Finally after about 2 hours the technician managed to get the ac working, very gently but better than nothing. They used to have a safe in the room and a small fridge. Now they have neither which is a great shame.

Place needs a face lift. - The pool is great but needs fixing - lots of broken tiles, some sharp and dangerous and the main pool looked a bit cloudy so I felt it could do with a clean. But the view and location is great - especially on the ocean side. Street side can be a bit noisy. And there are often weddings there, so weekends can be noisy. Great water filters in all the hall ways so you can refill water bottles as often as you want. Good size rooms, and we had two king size singles pushed together. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice - Indonesian style. You can eat out on the balcony overlooking the ocean. Really lovely. But overall the hotel is old and a bit tired. We asked at reception if there was a safe in the room and were told yes there was. But there was no safe. So we asked for one and they said they would bring one But they never did. The air con is pretty hopeless and takes an age to make the room bearable. The gym is a joke and all machinery is pretty well broken.

• Nai (4/5): Really think they should renovate the facilities thoroughly. - The outline of the room is alright, and the room is spacious enough. There are water dispensers which provide hot and cold water. The stability of WiFi is nice. The location is a big plus. Some nice food and drink places are within walkable distance. The cleaning and tidiness are drastic. Towels are grey. I doubt whether they had washed it at all. Pillowcases, bottom sheets, top sheets, the surface of the walls, and the chair are scattered with all kinds of stains, be they caused by blood, dirt, black liquid, and so on. There is a single piece of textile in the room that is properly cleaned. It is unbearable. On top of that, many facilities in the room are either rusted or worn awfully.

Lunch was good and came out quickly but we were baking in the restaurant as the a.c was turned off. Would suggest there are much better options elsewhere at a similar price.

There are plenty of restaurants and warungs within walking distance to get cheap and amazing food. The bed was huge, the rooms and bathrooms were clean. The pool was lovely. Buffet breakfast was a mix of western and Indonesian. I am a return visitor to hotel on the rock. I think it is a great hotel
• Richard (4/5): Poor management and facility 😡😡😡 - Pool nice , location great Breakfast cold , water and orange juice very warm , need server in the breakfast area. Fd staff has to know how to greeting ppl don’t be on their cell phone or sat behind the wall , gym equipment dirty and broken bathroom very dirty and nasty l. I ask for ice they told me the don’t have it l. Remind you orange juice cannt be in room temperature that can make ppl sick .until not recommended this hotel to anyone unless they get new management.

• Justin (2/5): The Aston is about 100m down the road which is similarly priced, definitely stay there instead. - The staff were great, very friendly and genuinely wanted to help. The hotel is bordering on dilapidated. The rooms were generally clean but the walls and furnishings were all heavily damaged and when I checked the sheets, they were severely stained as well. The sheets looked like they'd had a couple of years of service at a local brothel. When room service came to change them, the underlay was even worse. It was then I decided to request another room, which was marginally better in the sense I was able to sleep between the stains in the next bed. I didn't leave because I was travelling with friends, whose rooms were similar to my replacement room. We were only transitting for the one night, so could grin and bear it. To top it off, when I went down to the balcony restaraunt in an attempt to recover a little from the ordeal, I was told that they did not serve alcohol. We're not alcoholics, but if this mentioned in the hotel description, we wouldn't have stayed. Watching the sunset from the balcony bar really isn't quite the same when your sipping on a Sprite.
• Michael (7/5): Pretty Good - Staff were helpful and friendly. I had trouble with the WiFi so they gave me a private router the same day which solved the issue. The room wasn't made on my arrival. My room initially lacked a safe and mini-fridge. It also had ants these issues were resolved but wasn't a good start.
• Caroline (6/5): Good and bad. - The rooms are a good size and the beds are comfy. A good Asian style breakfast . And the pool is great - when clean. Great free water dispensers in the hallway. That’s really good. Street side rooms are noisy - it’s a busy road. They no longer have a fridge in the room nor a safe. Definitely downgrading. The pool looked so welcoming but actually was not clean - I swam with goggles. Probably better if I hadn’t ! My son’s room smelt of smoke - someone had definitely been smoking in there. When he went to see if he could change rooms the receptionist was curt and rude insisting it was a no smoking room and anyway that they are full and he couldn’t change.

• Caroline (5/5): Good location, comfy bed, good size rooms - that are a little tired. - The pool is fantastic. The staff very friendly. Good breakfast. Huge comfortable bed. No safe in the room - we had to ask for one. The rooms are "tired" and need painting and new carpet. Very loud if you are on the road side. Better to get sea side view. Also a major hotel for weddings so it is busy and loud at the weekends.

Pool could do with better cleaning, water a bit cloudy, it would also benefit from having shade sails installed as always in a hot climate the water is always warm. Toilet didn't flush strong enough had to use bidet sprayer to help it flush.

• Bernd (8/5): Very good - The location of the hotel is brilliant. The staff is amazing. Where else can you join a dance performance during breakfast? Overall, a bit of rehabilitation seems necessary, but after Covid everyone has to look for funds first. Thus, all fine. I highly recommend Hotel On the Rocks! The welcome drink is too sweet for my taste.

• Ellyne (8/5): The Rock Hotel has nice location - The pool is nice with the view, but there were tables and chairs at the terrace pool which is always occupied with people who do not swim and make it uncomfortable for those who want to swim. the view is good and in the evening many people sit on the banks listening to the waves of high Breakfast is a simple buffet Asian and traditional menu with dessert and fruit. Western food such as omelet/egg, bread, and butter are available but no cereal, Instead there is rice porridge, and soup. Kupang is such a hot weather town, On the first day we arrived we wanted to have lunch, but there was no air conditioning in the l dining room, instead an open door to the terrace with the hot breeze at 2 pm. We decided to have lunch at the Swiss Bell Hotel instead within walking distance of the neighbour hotel. But to find out that the dining room also had no air conditioning. So we decided to have Room service and have ours in our room. We found out there was no refrigerator in the room. We told the receptionist when the staff at the front office said the refrigerator was out of order that the room should not be sold if the refrigerator is out of order because we found out there is space for a refrigerator but it was empty. I was disappointed because we brought a Birthday cake which should have been in the refrigerator, it was the Birthday of my husband. The second day my husband felt in the bathroom which was wet after his shower. There was no floor mat in the bathroom room or floor towel. Imagine pulling an 80-year-old man who was lying on the floor of the bathroom. With a pillow under his head, I managed to pull him out of the bathroom door when a housekeeping guy knocked on the door to clean the room at 1.30 pm. He helped me move him to the bed. No injury to his head, ankle, or his body. The worst can happen. The housekeeping boy cleans the bathroom and puts the floor mat or floor towel this time.
