- Catherine (10/5): Old world charm and lovely staff. - A beautiful old French style hotel set within walking distance of town. The rooms were large and really nicely decorated and the pool was much appreciated in the heat of the summer. The staff were exceptional - they absolutely made the trip and were warm and welcoming to the extreme. The food was fine but rather overpriced vs other hotels / in town. I was there over the quiet time so it may be that this is different in high season when more people are around. There's no lift (but staff on hand to help with luggage).
- NAN (10/5): old days charm - The best hotel in the city center nothing, i liked every aspect of the hotel
- Georges (9/5): Excellent vibe authentic hotel in city center - Very lovely stay with excellent service - slow pace not many customers because of low season. Excellent service good food friendly and available staff / super massage good value for money - walking distance from most key sights No steam room / sauna in the spa

- Marielaure (9/5): Lovely boutique hotel in a peaceful spot of Ventiane yet so close to the centre. - a quiet heaven in a centre of town, 5' minutes walk from the Morning market, the evening food market and Wat Si Saket. Hotel has just been refinished. We also enjoyed cooling down and relaxing by the pool at the end of the afternoon while sipping a gin & tonic! the cocktail menu is a little bit basic!
- Lisette (9/5): Colonial stay in Vientiane - Stylish colonial hotel, very friendly service
- Doris (10/5): -
- Justin (10/5): - Lovely historic hotel and centre of Vientiene. Room was great, comfy bed. The Bluetooth speaker was a nice touch, especially as we had forgotten ours. Good breakfast selection. Nice pool.
- marcop (8/5): A solid choice! - Settha Palace is a great option in Vientiane. The boutique hotel is housed in an old villa, which is classic and essential. The pool is a plus, and the staff is very friendly and polite. You can't go wrong. Walkable distance from a busy area and a couple of landmarks! I feel like the breakfast can be improved (limited gluten/dairy-free options), and the overall food quality of the restaurant is on the average side, good, but nothing more. Also restaurant is overpriced.
- Karen (10/5): Beautiful colonial hotel close to main attractions in Vientiane - Settha Palace Hotel is an absolute gem in the heart of Vientiane. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed by a sense of old-world elegance combined with warm Lao hospitality. The colonial architecture is beautifully preserved, giving the hotel a timeless, refined atmosphere that feels both luxurious and relaxing.
The hotel was well located within walking distance to many of the main tourist sites.
The rooms are spacious, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully designed, with high ceilings, classic furnishings, and all the modern comforts you could want. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, making it easy to unwind after a day of exploring the city.
The staff truly make this hotel special. Every interaction was friendly, professional, and attentive, with genuine care shown to guests at all times. Nothing felt rushed or transactional — just calm, gracious service throughout the stay.
The pool area is a tranquil oasis, perfect for escaping the heat, and the breakfast was excellent, offering a great mix of international options and local flavors, all served in a beautiful setting.
Settha Palace Hotel strikes a rare balance between luxury, history, and comfort. If you’re looking for a peaceful, elegant stay in Vientiane with outstanding service, this hotel is an exceptional choice. Nothing

- Sune (10/5): Stille luksus midt i storbyen - Virkelig flot hotel i klassisk fransk koloni-stil. Gammelt, men på den gode måde. Rigtig flotte badeværelser. Skøn luxuriøs stemning. Lækker morgenmad.
- patrick (8/5): Very good stay. Happy to have chosen this boutique hotel - Very cosy, chilled… very quiet and relaxing.
Rooms are really nice. Breakfast could be improved
- Alessandra (10/5): - Location and feel.
- jimbo062844 (10/5): Wonderful hotel in Vientiane full of charm - Bed and bathroom were superb Pillows could be softer
- Claudia (10/5): Colonial charm and a beautiful pool - Beautiful hotel in colonial style with a big and party shady pool in a lovely garden. Very good breakfast and very kind and attentive staff.
- Sylvie (9/5): -
- Luke (7/5): Good fundamentals, good for single night stay but a little tired - I liked the historic nature of the building and overall setting. The staff were very attentive. Felt like that it could do with a refit, that will also allow it to attract more clientele to build an atmosphere
- Adriano (10/5): Old fashion elegance - Elegant. Clean. Excellent position. Amazing breakfast. Very helpful staff. My room was a bit noisy because of the street traffic
- Antoine (9/5): - Le lieu RAS
- Natalia G. Collado (10/5): A gem in Vientiane! - What a gem!! Only staying at this Hotel worth the trip to Vientiane.
It keeps the glamour and comfort of the past.
I have no words for the personal. Since the beginning, they were very nice, polite, and helpful. We faced some problems during our trip, and they helped us with everything, making us feel at home.
Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. You have anything you may need.
Breakfast is nice, and taking it in the swimming pool area is the best way to start the day.
We had dinner at the restaurant, and I must say it is the best burger we have ever eaten.
Location is superb. Walking distance to street markets and Patuxai.
We recommend it, and for sure, we will be back soon.
- Kerstin (9/5): -
- jia (10/5): -
- Sharon (8/5): Charming old style comfort - Lovely old colonial building. Warm greeting on arrival. Very comfortable bed with good quality linens. The bathroom could have had more places to put toiletries but otherwise it was fine. Good breakfast with a la carte offerings and good tea! Nothing the hotel had control over.
- Xin (9/5): - Perfect location, within walking distances to the Patuxay, That Dam Stupa, and Wat Sisaket. Colonial style building with a nice little garden and pool. The room is a bit small.
- Christopher (10/5): Superb hotel, highly recommended. - Spectacular hotel. Beautifully appointed, extremely quiet and comfortable. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Lovely bathroom, top quality bed, spotlessly clean. The only thing that wasn't great were the restaurant prices. 130,000 ++ for a Beer Laos is a bit over the top! But the quality of the restaurant food (although it was also quite pricey) and the ambience were outstanding.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Beautiful, historic building of grand proportions! Plus a treasure trove of Laos fine art displays
On the doorstep of restaurants, galleries & music venues
- Toby (10/5): A beautiful, friendly heritage hotel - Beautiful heritage hotel close to the centre. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive.
- Katerina (10/5): -
- M M (10/5): A hotel with a cut above the rest! - The set up is ideal for conferences holidays. Family stays super gardens a wonderful pool and above all excellent stuff.. always smiling always a step before you to help. Nothing is a problem. The prices of the food and drinks out of reality for Laos presume they count that the Europeans or the travelers can afford to pay, but this is a wrong thinking because the clients will not come back
- Hugo (10/5): -
- OMARZO (10/5): -
- Toal (10/5): -
Prima restaurant. Fraai zwembad.
- WU XIA (8/5): - overall is good
- Harumo (10/5): -
- M. (9/5): Great swimming pool in a nice historical setting - The swimming pool was great. It was low season so a little quiet in the hotel. I loved the building and the old vibe. We were happy we choose for this hotel in Vientiane Because it was low season. On our first day the breakfast was a la card instead of buffet. We always love the buffet which we had the 2nd day. But nevertheless the breakfast was very nice.
- Bruce (9/5): Settha Palace is a friendly well appointed hotel, close to all places of interest with a great pool. - Staff at Settha Palace were friendly and helpful, getting us LOCA taxis, a softer pillow and looking after us. Great Mojitos and drinks around the lovely pool, all within walking distance to the old town, night market and restaurants. Its a beautifully finished building in classic style with comfortable well appointed rooms. liquid soap dispenser in bathroom would be nice rather than soap cakes
- Philippe (10/5): - Le charme d’antan
Génial
- Frank (10/5): A beautiful hotel - Breakfast was great. The hotel is beautiful and elegant. The room is very pleasant to stay, and the view of the garden is very healing. The water system could've been better. It takes time to get the right temperature.
- Debra (7/5): Delightful staff and charming heritage decor. - Lovely staff, charming decor with heritage value. Location was further away from the places I wanted to see and there is a huge radio tower right next door which spoils the ambience. Gym is just a dusty room with a few pieces of old equipment.
- Stig (10/5): Exceptional - A little gem with a glimpse back to a long gone era - lovely staff and place
- Mary (10/5): An experience not to be missed whilst in Vientiene - The ambience -beautifully restored chateau. The staff were superb ! Our wish was their command! The pool so relaxing after a day sightseeing. Food was delicious at breakfast and dinner -no fault to find ! Nothing
- Mbuyi (10/5): A short visit to Vientiane, Laos - Small, cozy property, with a great staff None applicable
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Charming old guest house. Rooms are very dates as are bathrooms. Our room opened to outside hallway - had mosquitoes in the room all the time. no bueno
- Richard (10/5): History and elegance in downtown Vientiane - Staying here was an experience, in a very good way. Its quite a big building, French colonial. But fairly few rooms so it took a while to adjust to somewhere that was not trying to pack the guests in. The service was exceptional - a real touch of luxury. A great pool too. Nothing really.
- honkhiam (10/5): Merci Vientiane - We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful heritage hotel. Kudos and thanks to hotel manager SAYILOHID who went above and beyond to help my wife to retrieve her bank card that got swallowed by the ATM. The staff were courteous and accomodating so this hotel is highly recommended for an unforgettable stay in Vientiane !
- Robert (10/5): Oasis in Vientiane - Beautiful property with impeccable grounds. Hotel is very clean and classy. An oasis. Staff is friendly, helpful and hardworking. Pool and gym are great, my room was very nice… a classic in detail.
- Henrik (9/5): Superb -
- Tim (10/5): Wonderful Colonial Hotel in a great location - Breakfast with many choices served in a a beautiful setting,
- Frederwin (10/5): Elegant - A truly elegant, stunner of a hotel. High ceilings in the room. Immaculately clean and an old-world, colonial charm. It’s romantic. It’s safe. It’s a stunner. Charming staff. Excellent breakfast and service. Wholly recommend.

- Travelaround59 (6/5): Never judge a book from its cover! - The title of my review is the perfect definition of this place: a beautiful exterior that has a very disappointing interior.
First let me tell you that the bed is extremely comfy and that the people are so extremely nice and helpful but… that is it.
The beautiful bones of the building are let down by dark rooms, hospital style corridors, plastic flowers arrangements and “heritage” furniture that should go!!
The Art Deco bathroom is certainly attractive but could become a much more pampering room.
I love heritage hotels (this time I have stopped at Metropole in Hanoi and Raffles in Phnom Penh) but these should be updated with 21st century comforts while still keeping the feeling of being in the Colonial lifestyle.
Hit and miss really!
- Johann (9/5): Superb -
- Miguel (10/5): Location, staff, food. Everything was great, would highly recommend! - Location, staff, food. Everything was great.
- Noriaki (10/5): - The hotel welcomed us like coming back to my home. Staff was staying at each corner, so it was very easy to ask any requests to the staff whenever I want. The ambience is like 1930’s, which takes me back to the good old time, and it matches to the Laos’s calm & slow atmosphere.
The most grateful thing I’ve had was that the hotel staff arranged the one day tour from the hotel to Vang Vieng even though I’d asked them few days before. For me who didn’t know much about Laos, this one day tour arrangement made my entire trip unforgettable!
As the total experience, being in the good 1930’s era and having a wonderful hospitality from the staff was much more worth than the price. Definitely I’m gonna stay again when I visit Vientiane.
- Hong (10/5): Exceptional - Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I love the swimming pool.
- Monica (9/5): Exceeded expectations. Loved the historic appeal. Lovely staff - Hotel seeped in history with an old world charm. The staff were super friendly and attentive. Lovely pool. Excellent breakfast.
- Janos (9/5): Superb -
- Sandra (10/5): The best boutique hotel in Vientiane! luxury and french colonial vibe in the best location! - As an elderdly solo woman traveller, I seek out boutique hotels in good locations in order to be close to everything I need. This place exceeded my expectations. The staff, management (leonard) were very attentive. everything was perfect
- Pam (10/5): Our stay here was a real treat. We felt pampered and cared for. - Of course the hotel was beautiful. The staff was extra attentive. The pool area was beautiful. Unfortunately there were loud jackhammers being used in town near the hotel. But the staff was apologetic and offered me a free drink outside by the pool. I declined as it really wasn’t necessary as I was enjoying reading my book in such pleasant surroundings. The breakfast was very nice. A selection of local dishes as well as eggs, pastries, potatoes, yogurt, oatmeal, granola, etc. Also pancakes one day and French toast the second day. The rooms were dark. All beds in Thailand and Laos were very firm. Very different than U.S. accommodations. However we realized we slept very well and with no aches or pains.
- Lorenzo (9/5): Superb - Beautiful historic hotel, perfect position, nice room and staff. Overall a really nice and classy stay. Food and spa, and the room itself, are a bit overpriced.
- R (8/5): Authentic colonial style hotel - Staff very attentive but only Hid who runs reception understands English. This can make life tricky. Maybe they dont have so many English speaking guests. I dont know.
Hid is fantastic and a great asset. Without him the hotel would be chaotic
I liked the breakfast Restaurant isn’t great and very very expensive. We went to the best and most expensive restaurants in Vientiane. The food was amazing but I didnt see anther restaurant in the whole city even half as expensive. I certainly saw better quality and more authentic food.
No hand shower. I have long hair so it was very awkward to wash ,my hair without a hand shower.
The layout and design means there’s a lot of flies and insects in the main pool area.. If you open your bedroom window insects fly in. They try their best with a discreet attractive looking mosquito killer in each room but it’s still a problem and the rest of the city does not have this problem. Unfortunately its the design of the hotel
- Susan (8/5): Very good - The hotel location was great and the room was fantastic. Breakfast could have been a bit better - the buffet room was quite tight and with 2-3 people in it you could not move very easily.
- Traveller (10/5): Great stay. Will return. - What a charming, tranquil, historic place to stay. Felt like i was living in colonial Indochine Nothing
- Paul (10/5): Great atmosphere of classy, quiet elegance. - Great location.
- keladerym (10/5): Old World Charm - The staff are some of the most attentive and thoughtful I've ever encountered, they left breakfast late for me the morning after a midnight check in, they anticipated problems and provided solutions, and during some scheduling issues, tried to find solutions with their connections in the community. The facilities are a little out of date, and could use better mosquito management, especially on the first floor. Easy walk to tourist spots and a grocery store across the street.
- David (10/5): Great quite stop over in central Vientiane. Great cuisine, Old School chamr, Excellent service - Classic older style hotel, quite and distinguished. Well maintained and lovely traditional colonial slightly french style. The Reception/concierge was amazing helpful beofre our arrival on advising us on transport to Vientiane from Thailand. All the staff were excellent especially the massage team Nothing
- joanneh227 (10/5): Your first choice in Vientiane! - Lovely colonial style boutique hotel. Room was lovely, massage was amazing (strongly recommend) and the staff were all really kind and helpful. Room was very very nice. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back again. If we were in Vientiane again, we would definitely go back.
- James (10/5): A blast from the past Yeah, is that you want to st - A very beautiful and small hotel from Laos colonial past
This hotel has been lovingly brought to former glory
Having drinks we almost expected Humphrey Bogart to drop in
Staff were super friendly and helpful
Just loved this place
- Rakesh (8/5): Lovely old world charm hotel - The regal vibe and old world charm A little away from action
- Rigby (10/5): Historic Vientiane Hotel with lots of charm and warm staff! - The breakfast was fantastic. We like the colonial charm of the hotel and the staff.
- marybY4966SA (10/5): Great first hotel in Laos - This is a lovely hotel full of character with helpful staff. Men at breakfast was particularly attentive when he noticed that we always had extra coffee 😂 . The pool was lovely and chilled . It is within walking distance of everything we wanted to see
- Voyage772006 (10/5): Very nice boutique hotel - Very nice boutique hotel. French colonial charm. Staff excellent, polite & very helpful. Rooms lovely with nice good shower & bath. Swimming pool very nice. All in all one to highly recommend. Breakfast was very nice with wide choice of items.
- Mia (10/5): Settha Palace meets my expectations - It was just a wonderful stay- the building style, colonial style furniture, exquisite decor, staff that quickly learns what guests like and dislike and treats guests professionally and cordially. Hotel management is present, accessible, and friendly. Interesting stories about the history of the place and how it coped with the recent COVID crisis. The Garden and the pool area are an enclave in a busy Vientiane. The food was good and nicely presented. I would have preferred to have more spaces to hang my towels in the bathroom and to have a handheld shower head but this is just an extra "nice to have"
- James (9/5): Superb - The room and pool were fantastic! The hotel staff were very kind and helpful. The price of the hotel food was very high given what the going rate is for nice places in Vientiane.
- 236chloel (8/5): Passion for colonial style hotel - This is a cozy colonial style hotel , I’ve seen it 2 decades ago on the hotels website when I first thought of visiting Vientiane , since then it stays at the back of my mind as a big fan of colonial style hotels ! I felt pampered like an aristocrat during my stay …
- Akiko (8/5): Very good -
- Pere (9/5): Romantic and peaceful place in downtown Vientiane. - The pool was incredibly beautiful. The staff very helpful. As there were almost no guests, during low season, the breakfast was not buffet but à la carte instead. I understand but that it's not possible to arrange a buffet for 3 or 4 guests.
- MarcC1066 (8/5): Charming hotel in a lovely setting with excellent staff - This hotel features beautifully polished wood throughout and is well located with a charming garden. The pool at the back is tranquil. Staff are friendly, courteous and attentive. Breakfast is slightly basic. The rooms are well equipped, with good air con and wifi.
- Judith (9/5): Superb - We loved the pool of this hotel, shaded with palm trees and jacarandas. The hotel is in a beautiful colonial style, with wooden floors and staircases. We were upgraded to a king room with 4 poster bed and sitting area. The breakfast was disappointing. The pastries were hard and not much selection.
- Ian (10/5): Love this hotel. Have stayed in it many times over the years. - Very good Nothing could have been better
- Murray (10/5): Wonderful experience - Brilliant location, great facilities and restaurant, fantastic staff and service. Loved it all!
- Sujiro (10/5): - Wonderful boutique hotel with the character and charm of the past, combined with the comfort and the service expected nowadays.
Nice pool, perfect for laps, small but functional gym, welcoming bar with a solid selection of drinks and convenient restaurant.
- Michael (9/5): Great hotel to treat yourself when on holiday - After 6 weeks of traveling through Cambodia and Laos this hotel was a welcome oasis. Yes its expensive, however the room facilities and location were great. Loved the room, pool and breakfast was 10/10. nothing - it's a good hotel
