Wir wurden vorab nicht über die Parkplatzsituation informiert, genauso wie zum Zeitpunkt der Buchung keine Informationen zu den stattfindenden Handwerksarbeiten gegeben wurden. Zimmer waren eher schlicht und nur teilweise erneuert.

Renovation work - a little noisy but this is only temporary so that Hotel can offer half board option in the future. Would have preferred additional 2nd chair in room.
Cathrine (5/5): Greit nok hotell med bra beliggenhet - Beliggenheten var helt super. Stille og rolig. Personalet fremstod uinteresserte, sa sjelden eller aldri hei eller hade når vi kom og gikk. Rengjøring av rom var delvis fraværende og vi måtte be om reine håndklær seint på ettermiddagen fordi ingen hadde vært der og hverken reid opp senga, tatt søppel eller byttet håndklær. Ingen knagg til å henge opp jakker. Det står i beskrivelsen at bassenget er for kun voksne, men vi opplevde barn der og ingen fra personalet sa fra om dette. Ved frokosten var det sjeldent brød, kun rundstykker eller croissant, og når vi ba om påfyll av brød så fikk vi beskjed om at det var tomt. Det er greit at det kan gå tomt ved et uhell, men ikke hver morgen.

Saubere Zimmer und ein Frühstück das ausreichend ist auch wenn ein etwas besserer Kaffeeautomat das ganze aufwerten würde. DIe Lage meines Zimmer auf die Hinterseite einer schmalen Gasse die Nachts von Obdachlosen genutzt wurde war teilweise etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig von der Geräuschkulisse. Es wird auch gerade Renoviert und daher im Frühstücksbereich und frei zugänglichen Bereich etwas Staubig und Laut während der Arbeiten.

Dawn (7/5): Nice hotel for a short break - Location was great. When we arrived, the first man on reception was friendly, nice and helpful. The hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a pool and bar on the roof terrace that looked very nice. Breakfast was nice but wasn't always well stocked. The room was pretty small - fine for a couple of nights but wouldn't have been ideal for a longer stay. We didn't have towels in the bathroom when we arrived, mentioned it to reception and we didn't get them until the next day so we had to use the pool towels. The tea and coffee didn't get replenished daily.

All other staff were very pleasant! Basic hotel. Excellent location. Nice rooftop terrace. Pity about the man at reception!! He should not be working in hospitality! Other staff tried to compensate for his awful behaviour.

Happy OAP (9/5): Perfect location for a short break in Funchal. - The Hotel Madeira is a perfect base for touring around Madeira, just a few hundred metres from the marina area and the promenade to the old town. All bus services have stops here and plenty of taxi stands too and an abundance of restaurants in all directions from the hotel. Our room was nice, comfortable with double doors to a small Juliet balcony and good air conditioning. The breakfast room was bright and airy with a good choice of hot and cold offerings for breakfast. The staff were very efficient in cleaning off tables and replenishing any items that had run out. A word also to the receptionist who we seemed to meet all the time. Cesar was an excellent first impression on entering the hotel - friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and helpful. On our last night we had to vacate the hotel and 3.30 am to head to the airport. We were supplied with a breakfast box of juice, sandwiches, two tarts and a banana. It was very thoughtful and a lifesaver. Kudos. Unfortunately, our room, at the back of the hotel faced a derelict site in a small street. If these neighbours could be asked to take the crap and detritus off the roof of their building it would not spoil the vista of the hills visible from the balcony.

roncole_uk (6/5): Good location for easy walking around Funchal city. - The hotel is situated in the heart of Funchal and from here there is generally level walking around the city. Once you realise that this is a city hotel and not a resort hotel (i.e. ocean view, large sunny balconies, entertainment, etc) things become acceptable. We chose the hotel for its location and it delivered on that. Sunny rooms at the front and shady rooms on the side. The rooms seem to be either spacious bedroom with small bathroom, or spacious bathroom with small bedroom. We were lucky with a spacious bedroom but the balcony was minuscule, but better than no balcony I imagine. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom shower was very good. Having said that, you don’t really want to spend much time in the room, it was a bit uninspiring, and TV was hopeless for English channels. Tea/coffee facilities and a fridge were included. Although there was an area to sit and read we missed having a pleasant lounge area to relax in. On the top floor, accessible by lift, is the sun deck, swimming pool, and snack bar, with pleasant city and mountain views. This feature was a pleasant addition to the hotel. Breakfast was good, nothing to complain about although I never mastered the automatic coffee machine! The breakfast room at certain times was quite full but generally there is plenty of space. Staff were a mix of friendly and grumpy but no real issues here.

Anniewestyorksire (2/5): Spoilt by on going building work - Building work going on all around the hotel, drilling and banging from 8am till 6:30 which we were not made aware of at the time of booking. Breakfast bar area small and over crowded due to the popular coffee machine smack bang in the middle. If you want a relaxing break definitely DO NOT stay here
Nadine (7/5): Will mehr sein, als es ist. - Top Lage am Jardim Municipal und an der Avenida Arriaga. Schöne Dachterasse mit günstigem und gutem Restaurant. Das Personal war freundlich. Unser Zimmer war gefühlt ein dunkler Schuhkarton mit Fenster zum Innenhof und Gang, super stickig und dunkel - für den Preis kann man mehr erwarten. Es war als Familienzimmer deklariert - hätte man die Couch ausgeklappt hätte man sich aber nicht mehr im Zimmer bewegen können. Die Kofferablage war durch einen alten lauten Kühlschrank mit Rost innendrin belegt. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist ausbaufähig und der Frühstücksraum hat Kantinenflair. Der Safe kostet 5 Euro am Tag - eine Frechheit!

Lara (7/5): Great Roof Terrace - The hotel is in a nice location and central. The roof terrace is excellent. Compact but relaxed and functioned really well. A USP. A bar selling food and drink throughout the day is a real bonus. The Hotel Manager listened well when I had to raise some admin concerns and she was a great person to speak with in general. When I asked the maid for help, she too was very friendly. My room at the back was a nice size and had a ‘characterful view’, some interesting sights and happenings on the road below! Due to some work going on in the building, it was a bit noisy and messy but it wasn’t of any real matter, we got filtered water and a very nice sweet on arrival to compensate. Not all staff appeared to be enjoying their work, particularly in catering and reception. The hotel had a data breach after I booked and subsequently I received around 25-30 payment request spams supposedly from the hotel stating personal details and booking dates. However, no one actually seemed cared that my data was breached and that I had had to deal with these messages and keep blocking them. Booking.com didn’t reply either when I notified them. My flight was cancelled so I had to stay longer in Funchal. I stayed in another 3* hotel. Although the rooftop area did not compare and a few other bits were definitely not as good, overall I have to say their breakfast, staff’s friendliness, receptiveness and professionalism throughout, made for a better stay.
Soomin (8/5): A great stay in an excellent location! - I really liked the staff! The reception team was very friendly and helpful. The receptionist spoke English and German very well. The hotel itself is a bit outdated, but it was clean and comfortable, with plenty of wardrobe space. It was also quiet at night. The location was excellent! The breakfast could definitely be improved. It’s served as a buffet, but the selection is quite basic. The juice smelled strange, and the coffee didn’t taste very good. The rooms and facilities are also outdated.

neweyHillingdon (8/5): Clean hotel in good location - Excellent location for Shops, restaurants etc, hotel lovely and clean in all areas although felt the room was a bit dated and very snug, breakfast was just ok, not a massive variety and hot food was almost cold, rooftop was great with a lovely seating area and bar, had a really nice welcome from reception staff and found all staff across hotel was friendly with the exception of the young girl who served in bar, always looked angry and never said please, thank you which I would of said is basic customer service but maybe she was having a bad week, all in all a lovely hotel.

LEMONTARGOIS (8/5): Situation idéale pour un séjour agréable. - Situation géographique idéale, proche du centre, du front de mer et d'un centre commercial. Un réceptionniste qui parle français très sympathique et serviable (les autres moins...). Petit déjeuner très bien avec choix et bons produits. Belle terrasse avec bar sur le toit. Très belle vue sur la ville. Parking sur réservation très pratique. Le chambres sont un peu vieillottes. La notre (double avec terrasse) était vraiment petite. Pas d'eau chaude le matin avant 7h.
