Guest Reviews

- Kathleen (8/5): I wouldn’t stay here again. - The bedroom was very clean and roomy. Beer garden large and tidy. Staff were very pleasant. The mattress on the bed could do with a change very soft. There were no comfortable chairs to relax no lounge area. The restaurant food was terrible. We sent back three tapas style chicken dishes and were still charged for them along with drinks we had not ordered. Fortunately we caught the error and they were removed.Prices expensive food quality very poor.
- A8274IRtonym (10/5): Absolutely perfect - To be honest this is the best place I’ve stayed in west Cumbria by a mile.
The staff are amazing and incredibly friendly, such a welcoming place. it’s amazing beer garden, really good food cooked by more friendly staff, a real home from home wity a touch of luxury.
Lauren who I believe is the general manager is truly amazing and makes you feel very comfortable, nothing is too much trouble she’s a shining star as is Louis is a bundle of fun and always happy to help.
It’s a genuinely lovely place to urgency high end deco but very sensibly priced.
Will be back for sure and can’t wait. Thank you all very much for the stay.
- hannahcP5909KU (10/5): Welcoming and friendly - Came in after a walk in the local area. Had the fish and chips and a pint of Estrella, the food was lovely and hearty! Real comfort food after a hike, the staff were lovely and accommodating. Made me feel welcomed. Definitely will be coming back again! I recommend this pub if you're in the local area
- michellebE1564XY (2/5): Disgusting food and very unprofessional manager false advertising - Stayed at the accommodation for two nights room lovely … most staff lovely food disgusting obviously don’t like you raising concerns also.
Firstly requested bottle of champagne on arrival to room this did not happen .. manager apologised ( also on website advertises Moët ) false advertisement. So I reorganised the champagne for the next day to be in room on our return from long walk ( still wasn’t there) I was about to go downstairs to raise my concern again. All I could here was the manager coming up from the bottom of the inn talking on her phone saying how stressed she was to someone swearing f word a lot complaining been 7/8 admissions very very unprofessional.
When she did eventually knock on the door obviously after composing herself she apologised again ( champagne in bucket hardly any ice and chocolates on a slate as an apology for the mistakes she had made ( bet didn’t tell the director this bit )
Anyway we then had our table for the evening booked 645 after long walk for the day … garlic mushrooms and chicken in a sauce for starter both cold mushrooms tasteless and chicken very salty obviously been pinged but we ate it was hungry. Then the main meals absolutely disgusting most shocking food ever … fish chips ( not sure what that was certainly not cod /haddock and not batter ) my husband did eat it because he was hungry after our long day walking and time. I had what was supposed to be meat potatoe pie disgusting , meat tasted like tinned meat luke warm as where chips and veg. I left quite a lot of it for this reason disgusting. I did say was not going to pay but my husband did not want this because the staff had been lovely. We did mention this to the young lady when she asked me was everything ok because I had left most of mine. My husband commented very poor food I said absolutely disgusting …. But then equally acknowledged it was not her fault the chief.
The following morning I did not mention this as obviously there had been bookings day before
( she clearly struggled with
managing this ) expressed on the stairwell day before language.
On our way home cancelled a stay in June because we were going to visit again but because of food and other elements of stay not returning.. I did email spoke to manager but tried to make out asked me about my stay she did not check your ctv said see you in June !!!!! Tried to say I ate my meal and did not say anything check your ctv again. Do not waste your money here esp for food disgusting cheap frozen need retraining on cooking customer service dealing with complaints …. Need to keep an eye on your staff directors !!!!

- Elizabeth (10/5): This was a perfect experience. Charming, cosy, but without sacrificing luxury. - The room was amazing. Charming and cosy but with all modern conveniences. And with a lovely view with mountains in the distance. The staff were warm and friendly, and treated you like old friends. The WiFi was the best I've experienced in a hotel. The restaurant had great food, with a warm woodburning fireplace.
- Angelika (7/5): - Staff very helpful and welcoming. There was a festival and live music during our stay which we enjoyed as well. For the first time we were visiting Cumbria and I think we've chosen one of the best spots, close to sea side, mountains, lake and amazing castle, everything within 30 minutes drive or less. Customers coming only to visit a pub are using parking spaces for actual B&B guests. It would help if there were allocated parking spaces for those staying in.
- Michael (9/5): A hidden gem - The staff and facilities
- Marilyn (8/5): A great place to stay, lots of character and great food. - The food was excellent- both breakfasts and dinners. Portions were very large , well presented and the food was delicious. The bar was well stocked with an amazing collection of gins.
The lunchtime buffet for a reception was first class.
Staff were great - friendly and helpful. No criticism at all.
- AllieF278 (10/5): Super friendly pub. Great atmosphere - We visited the Gosforth Hall Inn whilst on a caravan New Year break. Having checked out the local pubs the night before this was our favourite so we went back for New Year’s Eve. What a great night. We felt so welcome. Although packed they found seats for us and a parking spot so we could leave our dog in the car away from the noise and festivities. (We walked back) Thank you so much we will be back.
- Kendall (10/5): Fab place to stay - Wonderfully quirky, very friendly staff, made to feel very welcome. Nothing
- Scott (10/5): -
- Simona (1/5): - The bulding, the location. Very cold in the room, the room was unheated even though the booking was made a few days ago and it was 2 degrees outside, we found a cockroach in the bed at night when we woke up because of the cold and other cockroaches in the bathroom, the asistent manager was very rude and impolite.
- Keith (10/5): Faultless will be returning ❤️ - The warm welcome & every member of staff was so friendly. The atmosphere , our dog friendly room , cleanliness and the food we couldn’t fault. Thank you That we couldn’t stay longer ☹️
- s (8/5): - Rooms very clean . Staff very helpful. Good parking. Breakfast very good. Bed a bit hard pillows to soft
- Ian (10/5): Great for dogs. Food and drink great. Very friendly staff. Breakfast also great! - Very clean.
- Yuliya (4/5): -
- Jones (3/5): Meh - Staff very friendly, history of building & parking was easy breakfast was good 118 on dinner, steaks were awful, 3 onion rings and a handful of chips £28.00 each
Cheese starters good but again, over priced
Heating didnt work
TV didnt work
No mountain view
Bed not the best
Bathroom shower head covered in limescale
- Clair (9/5): -

- Jane (9/5): Would recommend - Nice quiet location. Friendly staff, good food and a comfortable bed in a lovely room.
- Catherine (10/5): Staff were brilliant.. friendly and efficient . - Nice original features. We weee in the annex overlooking a field so very peaceful
- Jekaterina (9/5): -
- Lorraine (10/5): Absolutely brilliant stay and will definitely be returning - We loved everything about the property, so homely and welcoming, there was a beer festival taking place on our stay and it was outstanding, you literally felt as though you was in the Mediterranean somewhere had a fantastic time. We loved it all.
- Sally (8/5): Great accommodation & lovely hosts - Lovely hosts
Annex was comfortable and very clean Nothing
- Gary (10/5): -
- robert (5/5): -
- Andrew (6/5): Mixed experiences in a lovely pub! - Lovely room in a refurbished inn and in a great location not far from Eskdale and Wasdale. Beer garden fantastic as the sun went down.
Good choice of beers. Check in was poor because we were not told that the kitchen closed at 8pm.
This meant that when we went for dinner at 815, we were told we couldnt have food. After complaining to the owner (who was defensive rather than accommodating), a table was found and the food was fine.
Nothing wrong with this pub at all - just treat your guests appropriately if they have a problem!
- Paul (10/5): Paul and Joanne's adventure - Staff and people were brilliant and made you very welcome .landlady was very helpful and told us about local hikes close by ..food was amazing..
Definitely will be going back.
Rooms where modern
Clean
And very comfortable
- laura (6/5): -
- Robert (7/5): - Food was poor - new chef was mentioned so may be temporary
- Abram (10/5): -
- David (8/5): - Lovely traditional inn. We stayed in an annex room, which was cosy & accommodated our dog. We had a walk-in drencher shower. We enjoyed an evening meal & had a great breakfast. The location is beautiful & in the Western lakes, a short drive from Was water. Nothing
- shandyshane (10/5): Fantastic night away, chilled place, good beer, wine and food. - This is our third time here as we absolutely love it. We are only 30 minutes away but come here to get away from it all and chill. The owner and staff are fantastic, really friendly. The beer garden, when the sun is shining, is awesome. Food in the restaurant is excellent...Rib Eye steak last night was perfect, but you must also sample theor pies. 😋. We stay in annex B as we have dogs, and the rooms are really well done out and the bed is great. Thank you, and see you soon.
- sallyu2015 (10/5): Fabulous stay - Stayed as part of a group. Lovely accommodation, great food and nice pub and beer garden too. Special mention to Ell who works in the restaurant, what a lovely, friendly person, an absolute delight! She kept her cool when it was really busy and did a wonderful job.
- Shezan (10/5): Great place all round and very polite staff. - Rooms were nice and clean. Great value for money and the staff were all very polite and welcoming.
Had the breakfast included which was lovely. Definitely a place I would come back to whenever I visit or attend for work.
- Claire (7/5): Great if I visit the area again this is where I’ll be staying - Room size was great bed was very comfortable breakfast was lovely!
- Bailey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Jill (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were friendly and food was excellent Just the heat but that can't be controlled maybe fans would be advantageous
- petereM5039SW (10/5): Don't drive by, call in and enjoy. - A truly wonderful place with a Tuscany/ Italian feel to the large enclosed front garden/ courtyard with appropriate music playing to create a relaxing ambiance.
The initial greeting ( so important ) was first class from The Manager Nathan and the very helpful Megan. Not to forget Emma, the friendly helper to the garden. Well done all, you made us very welcome. Best to you all . Peter
- Emma (9/5): Wonderful night spent in lovely area. - A lovely place to stay with a really friendly team working in the bar and restaurant. Ideal location and comfortable room in the annex building. Lovely food too.
- Gary (10/5): Renovated clean spacious rooms with very kind staff in a historic location. - Renovated clean spacious rooms Nothing
- 242elliee (10/5): Fabulous stay in Gosforth - We had the most wonderful stay at the Gosforth Hall Inn. Barbara and her team including Nathan, Maya and Eli all run the place in most professional but friendly manner. We stayed on the top floor in room 6 which had such wonderful character. We had a fabulous breakfast each morning and the food in the restaurant is excellent. Would highly recommend staying if you are in the area. We will be back.
- Donna (10/5): Absolute Gem 💎 - Where do we begin? This place is an absolutely gem, it’s an old building but full of character. The garden is beautiful and the little outdoor house for the resident cat (Missy Mo) is soooo cute! The room was stunning, it was huge and so comfortable, I had the best night sleep I’d had in ages! What really stood out for us was the staff. El is an absolute credit, such a friendly and helpful young lady who we really enjoyed chatting with over breakfast. The owner Barbara is nothing short of amazing, the kindness she showed us just goes to show there really are some genuine, selfless and kind hearted people left. Thank you so much to you all x We missed the evening food 😩 our fault because we arrived too late BUT a good excuse to go back 🙃
- Jennifer (5/5): Passable -
- Groovychick_12 (10/5): Five stars all round - We stayed in an Annex room for two nights and had a wonderful stay. The room is quite minimalist in appearance but has everything you need. It and the bathroom were spotlessly clean. The king-size bed was extremely comfortable. The inclusive breakfast was delicious. Whilst the choice is not vast - fruit juice and cereal, lighter cooked breakfasts or full English, the produce used was obviously local and cooked to perfection. We ate in both evenings, as the food the first night was so good. In addition to its usual menu, the Gosforth Hall Inn features a choice of about 6 different homemade pies (most of which had sold out by the second night) and what they call "tapas". These are small dishes of things like salt and pepper squid, chicken fajitas, lamb koftas, sweet chilli prawns etc. for you to mix and match. The first night we ate from te main menu, the second night we tried the tapas and all were excellent. Choice of at least 3 real ales and a cocktail of the day (the mojito was very good!). When we first enquired about booking a table for the second night, staff didn't know if they could fit us in due to being fully booked for the weekly quiz night. We said we'd be interested in taking part in the quiz too, and they said they would try to squeeze us in, which they duly did. All the staff were unfailing friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. This is a vibrant community pub, with a big clientele of locals. The vibe is relaxed, fun and friendly. We will be sure to stay again.
- Stephen (10/5): The staff at Gosforth Hall went above and beyond and it was so welcoming it was like home - The staff Very nice and welcoming The room was very clean very nice and great value for money Also, the food at Gosforth Hall was Very nice especially as breakfast. The poached eggs are to die for thank you to all the staff and the owners for making our stay a pleasant one. That was nothing we didn’t like
- Kim (10/5): Wonderful - Lovely hotel staff were absolutely amazing highly recommend
- Portishead89 (10/5): Absolutely fabulous hotel, restaurant and staff. - Just returned having spent a 5 night stay with my husband and teens (Copley suite and Annex B). Never stayed anywhere quite like it, such interesting history.
We‘ve been to the lakes many times over the past 30 years but never this far West.
So glad we did. The views, countryside and people were a delight.
Our suite was absolutely huge and the decor in style with the age of the room. All other rooms really modern.
Both our rooms, the public areas and toilets were spotlessly clean.
Staff at the hotel were an absolute pleasure to meet. Thank you to lovely Mya for your kindness and patience at breakfast and Darren for looking after us so well. Thanks for the poached egg tips!
Thank you Manon for organising the extra little birthday treats,.
Both chefs were fabulous and really accommodating.
Breakfasts were spot on, absolutely delicious.
We ate dinner in the restaurant twice, both tapas and mains and everything was cooked to perfection.
Our favourite part of the hotel by far was the wondered beer garden. We were really lucky with the weather during our stay and returning from a days walking into such a welcoming sun trap of an area was absolutely bliss. Lovely wine too.
Top tip, quiz night is on a Sunday evening and can be really busy and rather loud. We moved outside with heaters and tapas instead and had the best night. Thanks Rod for putting on the cosy patio heaters.
Thank you so much everyone for looking after us all. we had a really wonderful break.
Very highly recommended.
- Barbara (5/5): It was ok 👍 - The young man that welcomed us on arrival and served us behind the bar was lovely … food was good 👍 The lady with the long blond hair and glasses… no people skills , felt like she just wasn’t interested in us .. no welcome at breakfast and no interaction when we left
- Daniel (9/5): can't wait to stay again - everything! was beautiful, food in the restaurant was to die for, we had homemade pie mash and veg. was pout of this world the walls in the room were pretty thin but this wasn't a big issue to affect my overall experience.
- Giblin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Graham (9/5): Superb -
- Gary (10/5): Tit tingling - This hotel made my tits tingle from top to bottom The fact we had to go home and the tingling sensation subsided
- aaaCumbria (10/5): Super place to stay - We booked a deluxe double room on the spur of the moment. Wow!! The inn itself is amazing nestled in the pretty village of Gosforth. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, even remembering my name! We happened to be staying there for their first Apres Ski Party, a chilled atmosphere in the beer garden with fire pits, outdoor bar and food and live DJ and saxophonist. What an amazing experience - we will definitely be returning. The evening meal of tapas was delicious and the breakfast was exceptional. Highly recommend Gosforth Hall Inn.
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional - Staff was lovely breakfast was top notch atmosphere was great
- Angela (10/5): Perfect location, good food and pleasant and helpful staff - This is our third visit and a firm favourite. Everything spot on accommodation, food and staff. Highly recommend There was a slight blip with waiting times for our meal that I understand was due to staff shortages. I’m sure this was an unfortunate one off and will not deter us from returning
- Aidan (10/5): A very enjoyable experience. - Very friendly and helpful staff, I left a watch behind which they kept safe for me. The food was excellent as was the breakfast. Nothing much
- Rod (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scarlett (9/5): Superb -
- Sian (10/5): lovely location great amenities - Loved the location food was great! Barbera was a lovely host. We will be back Nothing in relation to the hotel or stay
Just we was given a room with sharing communal living area
A the guests in opposite room was up till early hours and had friends in and out at 1.40 in the morning I had to ask them to be quiet
Due to us being up so early
They were clearly drunk
And didn’t realise the amount of noise they was making or forgot there were other guests present
Shame as that had no reflection on the accomadtion or staff just other holiday makers ruining it for others
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angela (10/5): Superb hotel, first class food and staff - Our second visit to this hotel and it didn’t disappoint! Food was superb, accommodation excellent, all the staff are wonderful and friendly and certainly made our New Year’s Eve a night to remember enhanced with fantastic entertainment and friendly locals and guests. We’ll be back x Nothing whatsoever to dislike
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - What a beautiful place!! Just came back from a little solo break, and I will definitely be returning!!
Everyone was so kind and welcoming. The staff and the lovely locals made me feel right at home ❤️ The food was also incredible, having everything you needed all in one place was super handy, and the owner even recommended some lovely local areas to visit and provided me with the postcodes, they all go above and beyond to ensure you have a fantastic time! 😊
- BD2435 (10/5): Amazing pub with amazing hosts! - We stopped off on a whim for a quick drink and wow, amazing place with lovely hosts. Had the vest couple of hours just chatting with Barbara and Rod. Completely unexpected but what a find. We didnt stay but we were shown the rooms and would definitely return to stay. Down to earth, welcoming, beautiful pub with gorgeous dogs to boot. Gutted we are not in walking distance to sip some more wines and talk an evening away but if you find yourself near the Gosforth, count yourself lucky. Thank you so much for your hospitality! Bryony and James x
- Joshua (9/5): Superb -
- Angela (10/5): Fantastic night, amazing place, superb food and friendly staff - Location, steeped in history, accommodation first class Nothing!!!
- June (9/5): Perfect hotel for the western Lake District - The bedroom was beautifully decorated and very clean. Fabulous bathroom! Every member of staff we encountered was friendly and polite. Food was delicious, with a great choice on the menu. A real character building. We’ve stayed before and never had an issue with noise, as we were on the top floor. Not so lucky this time with room 3. Noisy bar at night, and noisy bar at breakfast with loud music on from 6.45am.
- Joanne (9/5): Great spot , lovely staff - It’s a lovely hotel in a great little village , staff were great , couldn’t do enough for you
- Michelle (4/5): Room good photos of the property not good would not stay again - The anex was lovely Not good had to sit outside for a drink as no room in
- Crook (9/5): Beautiful Location, Beautiful Property and very good food! - Beautiful location, beautiful building and staff were really friendly. Slight issue with the room to begin with BUT was very quickly resolved with no fuss and an apology! It’s not about the issue it’s how you deal with it. Alan dealt with the small issue very quickly and was so helpful! Left us feeling happy.
- Donna (7/5): Good -
- Cleary (9/5): Superb - Location was good. Food was very tasty. Breakfast was fabulous fresh cooked . Good choice. Service was excellent dog friendly as well 💙 There was nothing we didn't like
- Mohammad (8/5): Very good -
- Angeline (10/5): Exceptional - Such a lovely place, friendly welcoming staff, amazing food Nothing
- Martyn (10/5): Excellent staff, going beyond duties to ensure we had a table for dinner. - Breakfast was situated in the bar / restaurant. Lots of room here and choices too. Good selection of food, choosing from a list of items, so you could, for example, double up on bacon, or eggs etc, and avoid tomatoes. Nothing comes to mind.
- Eulalia15 (10/5): Great Find! - Great room in the Annex, very spacious and quiet. We had dinner bed and breakfast. Dinner was amazing - very tasty venison and haggis pie with freshly cooked vegetable and mash. Breakfast really good - pick your own 5 choices from a menu. Very friendly and efficient staff. Will definitely return when next in Cumbria.
- Dave (9/5): Superb -
- Thompson (10/5): Family funeral next door - Great room, lovely hotel, friendly staff, a little on the expensive side Slightly cheaper
- Ed (8/5): Welcoming and comfortable stay. - Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was 10/10. Evening meal Tapas selection was mediocre resembling Iceland frozen food. Each dish was paired with rocket and no other garnishes to tie in with style of dish. Satay chicken was dry unseasoned chicken on skewer with the sauce served separately, but traditionally they are cooked within the sauce to keep the chicken moist. The point I’m getting at the price of each dish did not meet expectations £7-9 per dish for traditional Tapas.
- Theresa (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- leehG8992FR (10/5): Excellent stay - Had a superb few stay for few days .. bedroom was very comfortable ..we stayed in a Hall bedroom. Food was excellent and staff very friendly, professional and accommodating. Love the decor .. gave a welcoming feeling. We will be back for sure
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent in every way great staff, fantastic food and beautuful rooms great location Nothing
- Kershaw (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed our stay at Gosforth hall inn. It was super dog friendly with a short walk to a field with amazing views to exercise our dog. We had drinks in their beautiful beer garden before & after dinner, I had the steak & mushroom pie which was superb. The room was very clean & comfortable with a modern bathroom with a really good walk in shower.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice & set us up for the day. I only wish we could of stayed for longer, but will look forward to returning.
- Philip (9/5): Superb - Extremely clean, high quality finish, food excellent staff very friendly. Could not fault. The only thing was you could hear people walking upstairs.
- jacquio-9 (4/5): Overpriced for Iceland food ! - We visited to have a celebration meal. The quality of the food was variable. Burgers and pies were good but the cod bites and chips had just come from Iceland and the lamb whilst tasty was very small portion. the restaurant staff were great and really helpful but couldn`t say the same for the rudeness of the bar man. Wouldn`t rush back unfortunately even though its lovely setting.
- Jennifer (7/5): Overall nice but take your earplugs and order your lunch early :) - Lovely location and overall a nice place to stay, food was very good, and we ordered packed lunches both days which were good value for money and very nice. Our room was right above the kitchen/bar area so it was VERY noisy at night and first thing in the morning. It was a bit of a battle to get a packed lunch for the 2nd day as the rules appeared to have changed overnight re when you could order a packed lunch. Someone had written on one of the signs that it must be ordered by a certain time the night before (hadn't been an issue the previous day) but we got one in the end - might be worth updating all of the signs with this info. Breakfast was lovely but a bit regimented. You could only sit at the tables that were set for the right amount of people even though there were loads of free tables, would have been happy to move my own knife and fork :)
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. The owner was such a lovely friendly lady. The manager was great couldn't do enough for us. Very nice gentleman. The food was lovely. The place was spotless would give it 5 stars. Will definitely be going back again. Really enjoyed every minute.
- Angela (8/5): Very good - Lovely village location for Eskdale and north western Lakes and easily accessible from A595. The bedrooms in the main building are lovely, liked being able to book a room in the annex for our daughters (young adults). Restaurant was very good and breakfast was lovely.
- Nuruzzaman (9/5): Superb -

- Julie (8/5): An enjoyable stay in a lovely setting - An enjoyable stay, very well presented rooms, everything clean and tidy. Breakfast very well cooked and presented. The dining room was a little tight for room especially for those like us who had a dog with them, but we made it work fine.
