• Hugh (7/5): Hotel almost certainly won’t survive much longer Many large new hotels in the new town center. - Located at the top of a hill in the old section of Tangier, the hotel had a good view of the city Sadly, this old legacy hotel has passed its prime. Facilities old, staff old, food ok
• Floriane (9/5): Très bon sejour - Nous avons séjourné dans cet hôtel avec notre petite fille de deux ans et avons été touchés par l’attention remarquable du personnel, particulièrement envers elle. Nous avons bénéficié d’un surclassement très apprécié, dans une suite confortable, à coté de la célèbre chambre 35, celle de Matisse, le peintre français. Mention spéciale à Mohammed, le maître d’hôtel, d’une gentillesse rare, toujours attentif et avec le mot juste. L’établissement a beaucoup de charme et rappelle le faste du Tanger international d’autrefois. La piscine est superbe, le petit déjeuner fabuleux et le service vraiment exceptionnel. C’est une très belle adresse où nous reviendrons avec plaisir. Seul bémol : le spa, proposé via un partenariat avec l’hôtel El Minzah. Il mériterait lui aussi une belle rénovation.

• marhills3388 (8/5): Fading former glory - I acknowledge I'm being tough on my rating here, but this hotel holds itself out as a 5 star property. If they had said they were a 4 star property, I'd give them a top rating. In its heyday this must have been a grand property and it still has elements of that former glory. However, there are a number of minor things which add up. I think the key issue is that either the staff don't see, don't understand or don't care about the issues. The shower in the bath was hopeless with a short glass divider which did nothing to protect the bathroom floor. As a consequence there was water over the floor and we had to use the towels to dry the floor after every shower. People in Morocco must be tall as I struggled to reach the sink and also the shampoo in the shower. The chairs throughout the property, and especially in the breakfast dining room, need to be re-upholstered as the piping is coming off quite a few of them and they look tired. Similarly, a refresh of the paintwork is needed as there are scuff marks on the walls in a number of locations throughout the property. We stayed for 3 nights and the breakfast was disappointing. The fried eggs were like rubber. Ask the chef to do you an omelet as that was good. The staff don't clear the tables regularly so you end up with a number of plates on your table. We dined in the main restaurant one evening and to be fair, the service there was much better. On two of the nights we stayed they had big functions in the garden right in front of our room. The noise was really bad. Fortunately, the functions didn't go on to late, so we were able to eventually get to sleep. The location of the hotel is very good. It's less than a 10 minute taxi ride from the port and walking distance to the medina. The staff at the hotel were great and a few of them went out of their way to help us. If management and the owners were prepared to invest a bit of money to refresh the property, especially the lobby which is a bit underwhelming after looking at the property from the outside, then I think they would be able to secure a stronger returning client base. Maybe they should stay themselves as a guest in a general room to see their offering from the customer's eyes. All of the above said, if I were to return to Tangier, I'd still have the Villa de France high on my list of places to stay.

• Pascal (1/5): - I had been really looking forward to my stay at the hotel, which I had specifically chosen so that I could stay at Tangier’s most famous historic colonial hotel. Unfortunately, it never came to that. On the day of my arrival, I first received a request to review my stay. I wrote back to them saying that this must be a mistake, as I wouldn’t be arriving until the evening, and asked about the expected taxi fare from the station. At 6.30 pm (!!!) on the day of my arrival, I received a reply stating that there was a technical issue with my room, that I had been moved to another hotel, and that they appreciated my understanding. For a hotel in this price category, it’s surprising that something like this is only noticed at 6.30 pm, that they don’t proactively contact the guest in good time, and that they don’t even offer any form of compensation. Overall, very disappointing.

Very close to the old madina with restaurants, cafes and shops . I used the stylish outdoor swimming pool that opens at 10am. The hotel was quite full but there was always a calm atmosphere with professional staff. Great reception people and Mohammed to help with luggage and introduction to the hotel. L emplacement est parfait pour visiter et flâner à Tanger. Personnel à la réception très accueillant. Très agréable terrasse en fin de journée. Nourriture et service de très moyenne qualité au restaurant et au bar, quel dommage ! l hôtel est agréable et on aimerait bien y déjeuner et dîner . Même le pain n est pas très bon, un comble au Maroc !

The staff were so friendly in sorting things out for us and giving us lots of advice about Tangiers. The hotel was renovated 12 years ago but still retains its charm and history. There are great views of the city from the rooftop. Super breakfast (a big thank you for organising vegan pancakes!) and we would definitely love to stay in the hotel when we return.

Der aufmerksame junge Mann an der Rezeption mit dem Schlüssel zu Matisse‘s Zimmer bot bereitwillig eine Führung an. Wir hatten ein Upgrade zu einer Suite mit wunderbarem Ausblick und kommen sicherlich wieder, merci!

No es un hotel común, moderno y funcional, sino de esos hoteles con encanto, confortables, cargado de historia. Digamos un hotel poco corriente, encantadoramente poco corriente, para los que buscan algo más que una buena habitación de hotel. • 576kevind (8/5): Conveniently Located and Comfortable Hotel. - The Hotel is very centrally located in Tangerie and within a short walk from the Medina and the main attractions to see in the city. The reception was very welcoming and had our checkin all set up for us to quickly go to our room. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The rooms were very comfortable, clean and had a good decor. We had a nice sit down dinner which was part of our group dinner and the meal was well prepared and service was excellent. We enjoyed the dinner. The breakfast was a buffet and it was a good spread. We enjoyed the breakfast and the Hot Coffee. The Hotel had an out door pool but it was too cold for us to go for a swim. Overall a good and enjoyable stay for the night.

• Douglas (9/5): Gorgeous old world glamour - Old-world charm paired with excellent service and a genuinely warm welcome from the staff made this a memorable stay. I loved the pool and the piano bar — both full of character and a slightly faded glamour that felt perfectly suited to this part of our trip. The location is fantastic for exploring the medina and the wider city, and the room interiors were beautiful. It felt like heaven.

Especially our greatest appreciation for Sukayna who gave us a fantastic upgrade, and for Aetaa, a charming young man who showed us around with great enthusiasm. The manager who oversaw the breakfast and lunch was also most kind as well as the waiters. Also an older porter in red, traditional clothing was super helpful and friendly. We would love to come again should the opportunity occur. A manager of the restaurant who was there later in the day did not understand English very well and often gave us answers that did not relate to our questions. Not her fault, but that was confusing.

El desayuno es buffet y es espectacular. Las habitaciones muy grandes. Y el personal muy amable
