amysY5174BX (10/5): Great weekend getaway! Great location and amazing hosts! - Very welcoming hosts, who made us feel extra special, it was like hanging out with mates. The room was prefect, very clean, great decor, lots of space and a really comfy bed. Location is the best in town, close to everything. Perfect for a weekend getaway to the surf coast.
binkybird (4/5): Very worn out - We randomly selected this hotel because it was late and we saw it. It is right across from the beach which is nice but it is in dire need of an update. While the room seemed clean enough, the fixtures, rug, bed cover etc were so old it was hard to tell. It was the same price as many places we stayed throughout Australia but not nearly as nice. We plan most of stays but like to "wing it" too - sometimes it works great, sometimes not so great.
Vickiyoung101 (10/5): Perfect place, great value and fab hosts! - Had the pleasure of spending a night here and absolute value for money for the coast! Very clean and the new bed was great and slept so well. Room was perfect and close to the beach and great cafes. The hosts were amazing and we had a few drinks in the bar which had the best atmosphere in Torquay. Sad only had one night but will be back for sure.

davidS532FR (6/5): Great Location - But that's where it ends. - This motel is right across from the beach and close to restaurants and bars. Accommodation however is dated and in dire need of a refurbishment. Bed was shaped like a hammock and felt like one. Was quoted $110.00 over the phone for a one night stay but charged $135.00 when we checked in. Okay but don't expect too much - you get what you pay for I guess.

Barry (8/5): Surf City Motel and Bombora Dining - Needed somewhere to stay overnight, that was near good dining, preferably with views. Surf City ticked all boxes. good rooms, quiet and only 2 doors away from Bombora eatery and bar. Meals were delicious both dinner and Breakfast enjoyed overlooking parkland and beach. Will definetly stay at Surf City and revisit Bombora again.

Coffee, sugar and milk in room on arrival. Toiletries in bathroom with nice towels, shower was lovely. Great place on sea front. Car park outside room. Smoking not allowed inside rooms, but ashtrays outside with bench chair. Little garden area with seats and umbrellas.

fitnesspm (10/5): Ignore the Troll reviews if you're want to stay at a good budget hotel - Location was excellent!!! Close to lots of shops, restaurants, bars and across the road from the beach. I didn't expect much cause this motel was near the cheapest in Torquay. If I wanted to pay around the same price, I would have had to drive to Geelong. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was slight run down but very clean (what do you expect for the price). It had everything I needed. Bed, shower (looks newly renovated), shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, table, microwave, fridge, glasses, milk, coffee, tea. Our A/C was broken so they brought in a portable one which was too loud and didn't do a good job. We just open the back window which brought in a nice cool sea breeze. We had a great night of sleep! If you want a very nice new motel, I suggest you pay an extra $50-100 more and stop trolling budget motels like this one. 5 stars for this budget motel!

D7543NEandread (4/5): There must be better options - Being 3 stars we expected a basic, dated/worn, clean and comfy/functional room. It delivered on the first three but lacked comfort and functionality. It's August and the bathroom window wouldn't close, had the heat pump on high and still had to wear a puffer jacket to stay warm watching tv, the bed had big dips in it, and the shower over the bath had no curtains. Location is great but the room definitely wasn't worth $140 in the off-season...or perhaps any season (we'd just paid $115 for a great place on Phillip Island).

amandaf819 (6/5): Quiet motel across from the beach - We stayed at the Surf City motel in early winter. We used it as our starting point for the Great Ocean Road. The motel was quiet and the owner was extremely helpful. The location is amazing. You can hear the ocean waves if you stay in the front rooms. It is right off the Esplanade and is easy walking to other restaurants and bars. We decided to get up early and go for a walk along the beach, followed by coffee nearby. While the rooms were a little tired, it was very reasonably priced and convenient.

Curtains in the second room where broken and didn't cover the window properly. Heater wasn't good at all and given it was a winter's night we noticed the lack of heat it was not giving. Luckily extra blankets for each bed were provided which somewhat helped

A272PXlisat (2/5): Just checked the room - Well we didn’t even stay we looked at a room as we walked to the room I noticed the windows were dirty, the room we looked at had leaves at the door like hadn’t been swept for weeks. Walked into the room there was a towel on the shower floor and the view out the window of a brick wall a dead plant and s pile of roof tiles. I just felt it wasn’t the cleanest the man did seen friendly though. Good luck staying here.

Staff member avoided the opportunity to even tell me their first name. Bar/restaurant closed on a Saturday night, very poor value. I would say the proprietors have well-lost interest.

Ronald (8/5): Break away - We had an enjoyable stay for two nights, location was good, close to the beach and shopping centre. Close to other attractions. Disappointed room not serviced after the first night, towels not changed and no tea towel in the room to wash our cups and glasses.

DMandTM (4/5): Too big a gap -$$ vs value - I genuinely hate giving bad reviews as I am a glass half full person and I know being in business is tough. But sometimes in order for things to improve one has to be critical. At $135 a night I expected more. And in some ways fate was sealed by first impressions and the experience thereafter. You could clearly see from the made bed the mattress was about cactus. Big dips in the bed - so naturally when you first sat on the bed your fears were confirmed and then when you finally slept in it - cemented in ones memory. Hair in the shower , dust on the light shade and you wonder how clean the linen is. I swear I felt a bit itchy all night but could be the mind playing tricks. The place overall was good but for me it was barely 5/10 so I couldnt go 3 stars (that would be 6.6 out of ten) so I’ve gone 2 stars.
Ashleyandlouise (8/5): Great value. Well situated. - We started our holiday after a hectic few days of a music conference in Melbourne by unwinding on the great ocean road. Starting In Torquay, the hotel was right on the water front, close to a selection of food outlets, including its own attached restaurant. Perfectly situated, easy to find with privacy, comfortable if simple, rooms and the most brilliant bakery just down the road.
christineroberts1 (8/5): Good room in Good location - Had an overnight stay in Torquay at Surf City and found the room was clean and fitted out well, well enough for an extended stay if required. Room was large, bed comfy and bathroom amenities great. All you can ask for in a reasonably priced motel in a great location. Very handy to a number of eateries and a spectacular walking path.
Elizabeth (2/5): Tired, poorly maintained and overpriced - This place has seen better days and maintenance is lacking. Basically everything is worn and dated. Our bathroom window was rusted open, so could not be closed, and its flyscreen was broken so not fully working. The jet tub was old and stained. The bed was worn out so too soft. The manager seemed bothered that we had to ring him to check us in. We had to pay an extra 1.4% to pay with a Visa card. This place is too expensive for what it offers. The only positive is the location across the street from the beach and close to restaurants.

The hotel bar is a great place to enjoy an afternoon drink, you can also get meals at the restaurant, Staff where very good, the room was clean and comfortable, the only things that let it down were the broken blind and dodgy door handle.

Brian (6/5): Nice Motel opposite beach - Motel was in a good position opposite the front beach. Room was basic but dated. Bathroom was awful as there was lots of mould in the shower grout areas. Bathroom door was extensively chipped around the base. Bed was comfortable and decor was ok but dated. Just needs a makeover to improve the standard. Apart from all this the motel was ok for a short stay.

Nick (10/5): Beach, Eats and Drinks all close by - The Motel was clean, tidy, quiet and well kept. The staff was very friendly and efficient at check in, the same applied leaving the key when leaving. The room was air conditioned with TV, Fridge and a couch as well as the QS bed. The bathroom was clean as you would expect and a hair dryer is provided. Toiletries are also complimentary - Shampoo, Conditioner etc.. All in the Motel was well presented with car parking directly outside the units. The location was across the road from the beach and a quick walk to cafe's and eateries of which there is an abundance of great places to sample. Well recommended.
Scott (2/5): Rip off - Stayed in here as part of GOR trip. For the price I was shocked at the standard of the room (1). Dark and dingy with very dated appearance. Cracks in walls and generally poor cleanliness. There were small beetle like bugs on the carpet and spare bed; thankfully none seen in the main double bed but we nevertheless unfortunately brought one back in our luggage. Would not recommend at the price or at all. Needs major attention. Main positive: location.

Patricia (6/5): Nice place close to beach and eating places - ok place to stay, very quiet maybe because it was a Sunday night. room ok but the towels and bathroom mats need upgrading as they are very grey looking. Was not happy about the clump of hair left in bathroom sink yuk!!!. Close to beach and eating places a plus would stay again.

Sarah (8/5): Nice 2 days in Torquay - We really enjoyed our stay at Surf City Motel. It was very clean and the room was perfect for my husband and I. Very close to the town center and the beach. Good restaurants minutes away. Beds were comfortable but shower a little outdated but worked just fine! Would definitely go back.

Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect location - I enjoyed a long weekend stay at this motel. Room was certainly adequate, staff friendly, but it's the location that really excels - right in town, near transport and directly opposite the beautiful Torquay front beach. Perfect position.

Rene (4/5): Very neglected and run-down hotel. - AU$ 150.00 a night is an outrage!!! Everything in the room was broken, not working or totally impractical to use. The toilet seat was not attached at all, falling off after every use. The shower head was so blocked up with lime scale that it actually hurt to stand under it. The hair dryer was covered in hair! The towel rail was loose. The tops of the bed side tables were so sticky that things actually stuck to it and had to be pried off. The list goes on and on...
