Guest Reviews
- Nancy (10/5): - The view from absolutely everywhere is stunning. We had the chance to see a plethora of birds and monkeys from our little pool in our balcony. The drive there is a little challenging but the location makes it all worth it. Taking a shower indoor/outdoor is one of a lifetime experience.
- Uri (10/5): Wonderful - Beautiful place, great view and wonderful service
- Uri (10/5): Great place, stunning view and wonderful service - Just wonderful. The staff, especially Jonathan, were all so attentive and caring. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff is super friendly and goes out of their way to elevate your experience.
- John T (10/5): Laguna Vista Villas get away - Fabulous!!!!
The room overlooked a beautiful lagoon that opened up to the ocean!
Mornings were greeted with stunning Scarlet Macaws, Parrots, Toucans and so many other species of birds!! The sounds were divine. Then you have the different types of Monkeys!!! All the wildlife you can imagine.
Anteaters Coatimundi ( related to raccoon family) little mini capybaras. It goes on...
Then your greeted with breakfast and the wonderful staff. Ellie, Tim and Augustine were so wonderful and took care of any needs you nay have.
Then there is Santos! Such a wonderful treat.
He managed to created gluten free desserts along with the most delicious meals for two weeks. Cooked fresh fish my husband caught too.
All in all we give this little gem a 10!
Thanks to you all!

- Dwayne (10/5): Beautiful One of A Kind Experience - What an amazing experience! Greg, the owner, and his staff do an excellent job of welcoming you and making you feel comfortable. The lodge is an isolated region in Costa Rica where you find birds, animals and an ecosystem that exists no where else in the world. If you are looking for a 5-star hotel with all the bells and whistles which can be found in 100’s of places throughout the world this isn’t the place for you. If you are looking for a “special” one of a kind place that’s not replicated where you can experience nature at its best, this is the place to be. When we were there, there were photographers from around the world to get that one of a kind picture that you can only get here. It’s amazing to me that Greg built this beautiful and comfortable resort in truly one of the most remote spots in the world. It runs exclusively on solar power and mountain rain, yet provides those important comforts such as happy hour and good food. One side note, when driving, you come to the end of the world and still need to drive another 40 kilometers to get to Greg’s place. It’s that remote. Greg, thanks to you and your team for giving Jeannie and I an experience of a lifetime. We’ve been to 23 countries over the last two years and this is the one that is most special to us. Thanks for making that happen!
- Eva (10/5): - What a great experience we had from the moment we arrived!! Super friendly helpful customer service from Joseph and Kristina and the staff with great insider suggestions for hikes and tours, beautiful elegant rooms, excellent views, close proximity to the National Park, and outstanding delicious cooking of chef Santos!! Great place to stay for families, our son loved the pool!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We liked the thermal pools that were part of the resort. The staff was generally ok, maybe didn’t seem as friendly as the other Costa Rican people we’ve met. We would have probably preferred to stay at the resort next door where I had originally booked but couldn’t stay due to lack of availability for dates that changed. Breakfast had a good variety. We had dinner there one night which was also ok.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Toller Ausblick auf die Lagune und das Meer. Schöne Anlage und toller Pool. Leider kein Kühlschrank auf den Zimmer. Ein Kaffe wird morgens vor die Tür gestellt.
- Barry (10/5): Romantic getaway - Very nice secluded resort for a romantic getaway. Greg was great and took care of all our needs
- Anne (10/5): Wonderful location and an amazing experience - This was truly an amazing experience! The hotel is located in a very unique spot above the lagoon in Carate. Getting there is an adventure in itself as this is a very remote area of Costa Rica, which makes it even more special. The views over the lagoon and the Pacific, both from the room and the common areas, are second to none and each room (cabina) is very private, meaning that bathrooms with no walls make sense! LagunaVista is also pretty unique in terms of wildlife on the property. Several types of monkey were often playing in the mango trees overlooking the swimming pool, and we saw scarlet macaws, many other birds, bats, butterflies, frogs and of course crocodiles and cayman in the lagoon. The owners, Greg and Keiko are the most wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome and at home. Their story about how they built up the hotel from nothing is worth listening to. They were also able to recommend activities and we went trekking in the Corcovado national park, went horseriding on the beach and kayaking in the lagoon, all of which are recommended. We travelled as a family with teenagers and everyone had a great time.
- Andreas (10/5): paradise off the beaten path - We had a great time and enjoyed of having all the comfort but far away from civilization. The location is like from a TV commercial for best spot to take a vacation. High above with a breathtaking view of the ocean and the lagoon. Abundance of wildlife but not in your room :)
- dennis (8/5): - With owner/operator away, no bi-lingual staff presented some hurdles. Still, I would recommend this property.
- Susan M. (10/5): A remote jungle paradise worth the wild ride. - This place is a remote paradise, worth the wild ride through swollen jungle rivers. We saw whales, all kinds of birds and reptiles and caught fish in the saltwater lagoon. Rob and Roy were so accommodating and the chef, Santos made amazing meals for us. The howler monkeys woke us early with their eerie cry, but when we saw the mamas with their babies peaking through the tangled jungle vines we fell in love with this great place.
You don't need the plunge pool, but it's nice. Great place to stay. We are going back in a few months.
- Robert (10/5): Simply a hidden GEM. Just go! - We arrived to the most spectacular view of the lagoon and ocean with Macaws greeting us! Our comfortable king size room with private plunge pool opened towards the life enriched lagoon and ocean, with an outdoor bathroom. The Corcovado Park is near, yet the grounds are full of wildlife! The meals are included and delicious. The infinity pool is one of the best designed pools to enjoy! Greg the owner was available for any request and made our stay a cherished memory. We left as true friends, like family. Don't hesitate to go. It is truly a special hidden gem waiting for you to discover. Thanks Greg for such a wonderful time and experience! A special piece of our trip and hearts, Robert and Dina Ox
- Ilaria (10/5): A piece of Heaven in the Osa Peninsula - A little piece of heaven. Very close to the Corcovado National Park, you can walk there. Everyday we would go on a hike, as soon as you walk out of the hotel you start seeing monkeys and all sorts of wildlife. Heck, you don't even need to leave the hotel. We had a group of scarlet macaws constantly hanging out in a tree right outside our room. And a brave little monkey paid a visit one day as well. The food prepared by Chef Coco was amazing! Everything was sourced locally and made from scratch. He even baked his own bread! Every meal, whether Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner, was a complete culinary experience. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating, everyone will drop what they are doing to make sure you're happy.
