Guest Reviews
- Malik (10/5): - Great environment
- Joyce (4/5): - The cabin was depressing.
Lots of dead bugs, the decor depressing, a bit scary
- Robert (10/5): Short getaway - The bathtub/shower was in awful condition. It was definitely a maintenance issue and not a housekeeping issue. The top drawer of the chest kept opening. Which caused a safety issue in the dark of night. The refrigerator had a missing leg which caused it to be wobbly and hard to open. The lodge was decorated beautifully for the holidays. There is always plenty of activities to keep yourself busy. Hiking, disc golf, ping pong, etc. We will continue to return to this lodge for short getaways.
- justin (10/5): - Everything was great!
- Mayra (10/5): - Excellent! We really enjoyed our stay
- Mary (6/5): - Needs a good cleaning inside and out.most staff were very helpful
- Spencer (6/5): - great lodge
- Denine (8/5): - Too many dust mites in first floor rooms. My daughter had trouble breathing.
- Michael (8/5): - Wonderful setting. Beautiful grounds. spacious lodge and very nice rooms.
- Leslie (8/5): Great glamping - This is a great place to stay especially if you are a nature lover. It has an older feel so if you want modern you may not enjoy it. It is beautiful. Things are a little older and run down a little but still a great place to stay.
- Melissa (8/5): Wonderful natural setting - Beautiful location. Rustic lodge type feel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hueston Woods - Nice lodge and cabins and ambiance. Nice view of lake. Good trails. Restaurant good. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Decent Nature Center. Wifi not great and has issues. Good access to Oxford, small college town for nice restaurants.
- Deborah (8/5): - There were lots of outside activities to participate in. The lodge was a bit dated but it was clean & had a lot to offer.
- Nancy (10/5): - Love the lodge. Have not been here since 1971
- Christian (10/5): - ff
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Bathroom had hair in the tub, you could hear everything in the hallways and it is very old and the carpet was filthy!!!
- Heidi (10/5): - It was a very relaxing atmosphere. The food was amazing, too. We are already planning a return trip. The pools were nice, as were the area for building a camp fire. There were many places for a nature walk, as well. We saw many deer running around, too!
Highly recommend
- Heidi (10/5): - Very relaxing place for a get away! We will be back!
- Karen (10/5): Very beautiful - The lodge had accidentally overbooked our room, so they gave us this awesome cabin for the night with a lake view!! Top notch service!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The lodge was very outdated and the rooms were in pretty rough shape. The rooms were fairly clean, but everything was just really old and in rough shape. The grounds around the lodge were pretty, but there was not alot to do beside swimming. The staff at the lodge and restaurant were very nice and accommodating.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Needs updated. Staff was very nice.
- Greg (10/5): Service was great - We had a great experience at Hueston Woods lodge. Staff was very friendly and attentive to every request.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was quite comfortable but there were fruit flies in the room. Maintenance did come in to spray and try to resolve the issue. The view was lovely. The dining room and indoor pool were very nice! The staff were very friendly. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. I would definitely go again!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There were too many bugs in the cabin. What I paid fir it, I was quite disappointed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I didn't expect it to be upscale (which is wasn't) but it was still clean and hospitable. The only issue I had was that the refrigerator hadn't been checked upon cleaning and there was still food from the last party that stayed in the room. In addition, the conditioner pump in the bathroom didn't work.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Hotel was very outdated compared to the pictures they had on the site. They had coffee but no creamer or sugar. If breakfast was offered I did not see where. Not impressed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Common areas were well taken care of, rustic. Rooms could have been updated but were sufficient. Staff were very friendly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great view and plenty of hot water. Comfortable social distant lobby.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Old outdated. Did I say old !!! The heater in the room sounded like it was going to take off. If you want a blanket you better bring your own.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We thought Hueston Woods SP was lovely. The lodge was very nice but is in dire need of upkeep. Our balcony railing was loose with nails pulled out & visible, our sink drain cover was missing & lamp shades were broken & torn. Our room was clean & we enjoyed our stay but budgeting for repairs & upkeep is necessary.
- Lisa (10/5): - The lodge is charming and had everything we needed: coffee in the morning and the restaurant was open for breakfast lunch and dinner daily. The trails are terrific for hiking and it was so nice to sit outside and enjoy the lake view while having coffee in the morning. Lots of activities available.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This is a unique and beautiful lodge. There were some problems with check in but the friendly and courteous staff worked things out. This is a nice place to stay and i would recommend it to anyone.
- Jessica (10/5): Great Get-A-Way - We stayed here for one night for my daughter's soccer team's tournament. We absolutely loved how tucked away from the city it was. Everything was perfect! Rooms were well upated. Only complaint was they allowed WAY too many people at a time in the pool with no regulations or staff watching/counting with COVID.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the lodge and the lake. Great food at the restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was huge and it was beautiful. Our cabin was clean and the staff was friendly and courteous.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful ground with access to easy hikes. Many outdoor activities available.
Lakeside porches are in need of updating/upgrading
- Yudita (8/5): The stay was OK. - We were able to check in much earlier than 4 pm, which was nice,
The cabin was nice, but it didn't have any shampoo. When I asked for it, they gave it to us, but they did say, it wasn't there. Not sure if it wasn't there by accident or if they are not providing it unless you ask. There was only one trash can for 2 bdr cabin, which wasn't enough. We used the kitchen, and we didn't have enough cups and their cutting board was old and very very used.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the lake view. Room was spacious. It’s a little dated but noticed renovations in progress. I loved the fire pits. We ended up going to Walmart and getting stuff for s’mores. The kit we purchased from the front counter was stale. The marshmallows were rock hard. The pizza at the lounge and pretzel sticks were very good. Other than that it was a great place to stay and we would come back.
- Kelly (4/5): Very outdated but a lovely spot - The lobby is amazing!!! Gorgeous! The common areas have a lot of nice seating. The rooms leave much to be desired. Walls are VERY thin, you can hear everything in the hallways and above you. Cobwebs in the room, stains in the shower and tub, mold in the grout. Bathrooms were pretty gross. There was just one thin sheet and thin coverlet on the bed and the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. It was a very convenient location for visiting our student at Miami University.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property is located on a lake with beautiful views. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. The interior is quite outdated and could be much nicer. The first visit I had noisy ventilation which kept me awake almost all night and on the second visit I was given a room with a view of the parking lot. For the price they charge it would be nice if they upgraded the interior. Also provide a lake view room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great relaxing location... room was comfortable and very rustic... views were awesome.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s rustic but it’s hard to beat being on the lake and having all the outdoor activities available at Hueston Woods. It’s a cabin and it’s old, so it’s not super comfy with a small bed and small shower. But if you are OK with that then it’s a great place to chill. Lodge has a decent restaurant, coffee bar, etc. And the price was reasonable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lodge is very nice! Indoor pool was a little chilly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved it all!! Wonderful location. Food awsome. Staff as well. Thank you. I go once a month.
- Michelle (8/5): Good but cultural diversity training is needed. - It was good visit. They had to switch cabins from the premium cabin to a family cabin because of an issue. We were disappointed because the premium cabin was on the lake and the family cabin was not. I also wasn't sure if they get any culturally diverse guests. It felt like people were staring at me like I was a fish out of water at times. The restaurant service was a bit weird as others were being served before we were and then the food came to us very slowly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We love the lodge. The staff were so friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcomed and comfortable. The food was delicious and fresh. Our waitress was spot on with taking care of us! My husband and I were so relaxed by the view of the lake and the woods! We now plan to make staying at the lodge a tradition. The memories you create of relaxing with nature, the staff and the lodge are priceless.
- Rachael (8/5): Overnight stay - Super nice gentleman running the front desk. Nice view from the room we got of the lake. Only issue was the bed wasn't super soft.
- Aren (10/5): - We went for a Valentines date night and had the most amazing time! Beautiful room great food and very pleasant staff!
- MARK (8/5): Great staff.Dated room - Room quite dated, and I found a cigarette on the floor next to the bed. However, the staff members were very friendly and competent.A little bit expensive for the quality of the room.
- Jen (10/5): - Love coming here. On the pricey side for weekends, but worth it for the lake view in the morning.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Atmosphere was nice. I wanted to hike and there was a trail close to lodge.
What i didn’t like was the room was run down. Bed was lumpy and hard. Uncomfortable. The tub faucet dripped constantly and I couldn’t sleep. Was excited to have a view of the lake but when I pulled back the curtain there was a crane blocking the view! My stay was horrible!
- misty (10/5): Beautiful Property - The property is under major renovation currently however that did not take away from our stay. Beautiful property with Beautiful grounds. Can't wait to return to see all the new updates. Only 1 suggestion lighting on balcony/patio would be great.
- Susan (6/5): Room for Improvement - But not Horrible - This was the 3rd time we have stayed there. Had it been the first time, we may not return. We had a king suite and requested a rollaway bed which was primptly delivered. When the bed was opened to be used, the sheets were dirty and had small pebbles on it. My husband and son did not call the front desk due to the hour - not realizing there is someone there 24/7. But, no compensation was offered when we checked out. In addition to the bed issue, the sliding door to the patio (we were on the 1st floor) would not lock. Maintenance had to come (which they did promptly) and fix it. This should not have been an issue. Just be aware that there is construction and the furnishings are old. King bed was comfortable and we truly do like staying there. Just a little disappointed with the response to the rollaway bed issue.
- Nancy (10/5): - Wonderful place to relax
- Cc (4/5): - Super old. Smells like a damp basement. Outdoor area nice. Desperately needs to be updated. For $200 a night way over priced.
- Melissa (8/5): reat place for family - Our stay was good. Lots to do with the kids indoors and outdoors. The indoor and outdoor pool was great. Loved that they had fire pits outside and that you could get balls to play tennis, basketball and volleyball. They also had shuffleboard and cornhole. Nice hiking trails. They also had board games to use for families. Overall I was very pleased with staying here.
- Dale (10/5): Only cabins are pet friendly. - Tim at the front desk matched our room rate and switched us to a cabin after we realizing that the lodge area is not pet friendly. Thanks Tim ! for switching us to a cabin . We were unaware after booking that the lodge was not friendly.
- Natalie (8/5): - Was told in the email that check in was at 3pm. Got there at 3 and was told the room would not be ready until 4pm, came back at 4 room still not ready. Finally at 5pm was able to go to the cabin.
Cabin room was nice. Had a nice view of the lake.
Car battery died on second day, call front desk and they had someone come out and give me a jump within 15 minutes.
Everything but the check in was awesome.
- Verified traveler (4/5): So very disappointed! - Unfortunately this was not a good experience at all. After arriving with our kids and their friends for a fun getaway-finally after months in quarantine, we found a bedbug crawling right across our sheets! You can imagine our disappointment. I know this happens to the best of hotels, but the service that followed was an even bigger disappointment. We called the front desk immediately. They said they would send someone right away. After about 20 minutes, no one had arrived. We were all gathered up and went down to check out anyway. They did refund our money, but that was it. After asking multiple times we got enough garbage bags to hold all of our stuff. We carefully bagged it all and went home. There was no on site manager to speak to. I do have to say that we contacted a manager once we got home and he was very apologetic. He said there is a system in place for this but the system was not followed. We are praying that no bedbugs followed us home.
- Mary (8/5): Comfortable and relaxing! - Check in was quick and easy. The room was very small but had a great view of the lake. The room was very dark and dated, the furniture was too large for the room and was very worn. The shower was nice with the extra shower heads. We were a little disappointed about the pool schedule due to Covid-19, we were only able to schedule one 1-3/4 hour pool time per day. Also I was unaware of the construction noise going on daily, but happy to see they are working on much needed updates. All the staff were very friendly and helpful!
- Phil&Nancy (10/5): - The property is located in a beautiful setting and we
enjoyed our stay. Our room was the suite - it was
nice but could use some updating. The furniture
showed some wear and tear. Overall the Lodge is
going through extensive repairs (new roof) so the
atmosphere was not the best but understandably so.
Again, we enjoyed our stay but will enjoy it more the next time. Thank you for your hospitality !
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hueston Woods snd the lodge are a beautiful and historic piece of property ... the facility was in major ..and much needed..remodeling and repair during our visit. We were unaware of this prior to our arrival. The staff was excellent snd very helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was quite and has a great restaurant. It’s a beautiful lodge
- Tammy (10/5): - Nice Setting on the lake, lodge is in the woods; large fire place for relaxing winter nights
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hand held shower in the bathtub did not work, the shower in the bedroom, was gross. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable. There was something sticky all over the door frame inside the room door
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I love the lodge. I have stayed here multiple times. It is a beautiful setting. The lobby is wonderful with the huge A frame window. I ate in the restaurant for the first time and really enjoyed it. They let me take my bottle of wine back to my room. The only issue I had was that my room was too cold at night despite having the heat all the way up. I am looking forward to seeing the renovations to come!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was so much fun. We met great people in the lounge and thought the pizza was amazing. Beautiful property
- Emily (8/5): - It was a pretty Location and cozy room. Liked the fire place.
- Lance (10/5): Great stay overall - Staff was incredibly friendly, beautiful view from room, enjoyed the in-house food, very clean.
- Tim.T (8/5): - Liked the openness and friendly staff. Disliked parking lot view
- Mark (6/5): A not-to-miss cultural phenomenon - I arrived late, around 11:30. There were groups of people camped out in all common areas. Kids had their toys around the Christmas trees. Adults had stacked coolers, and food. Adults drinking from red Solo cups watching the TV. Kids running wild, playing with their toys. There were at least four or five lounge areas in the hotel, and every one had a different group treating the area as their own living room.
- Angie (10/5): - Loved that everything we wanted was on the property. Nice room with a balcony and view of the lake. Nice indoor pool. Great restraurant and lounge.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The lodge is a beautiful place to stay. I can see how this would be a wonderful destination for a summer vacation with all of the outdoor activities that are available. The breakfast buffet was very good and reasonably priced. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. My only complaints are that the water in the shower was not hot enough for me, and the kleenex was like sandpaper. But everything else was great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We rented a couple's cabin and it was perfect for my husband and I. Charming, cozy little cabin all to ourselves. The food at the lodge is superb! We ate there multiple times and never had bad food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Decor needs and update.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - bath room in bad condition. Tub would not hold water, plug would come out and not seat correctly. Lighting was bad in room. Over all condition looked run down especially exterior.
- Lora (10/5): - Micki the front desk clerk was amazing, it was my husbands 60th birthday, I wanted to plan a romantic evening. Micki let me in our suite early so I could decorate and help me make reservations for dinner.
- Verlin (6/5): - The lodge is over 50 years old and looks it. Dated and in disrepair. Automatic entry doors didn't work and apparently according to staff they had not in quite some time. A lot of people having trouble with their keycards. A lot of wear and tear on the facility, which is a shame because it is quite an impressive structure. State of Ohio needs to invest some money for repairs and upgrades. Restaurant was very good as was the staff. We enjoyed the park and our stay, but the overall condition of the lodge was disappointing.
- Chris (8/5): - The food was great. I loved the burger, brisket and fries. The pizza was awesome too.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel is old and needs to be updated. It’s on a lake and it’s in a wooded area which makes it a nice location. Not far from Oxford
- Lindsay (2/5): awful - our room was invaded by huge carpenter ants... we left our room at 3 in the morning to change hotels
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Shower spray and water pressure was very bad.
Cabins are generally very nice
- Verified traveler (8/5): - For the rates. I think a minimal continental bfast should be avail. Pretty grounds, but not convenient I you’re visiting Miami U
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room smelled very moldy to the point of exacerbating my asthma. It was not cleaned well. There was a very bad leak in the tub with a steady stream of water. Broken door lock and sliding door handle. Overall the facility was run down and poorly maintained and it was very expensive considering all of the above.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful secluded properties. Peaceful and restful.
- SusanA (8/5): - Nice lodge in a state park. Very rustic. We had a lakeside room which had a nice balcony overlooking the lake. Definitely work the extra $. We would like to visit again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - peace of mind and there was a lot to do me and my grandkids
- Elisabeth (6/5): Nice location, but hotel needs some refurbishment - This place was probably amazing 20 years ago. The location is incredible - and Heuston Woods park is a lovely place. The amenities are also great - the pool is wonderful, especially if you have kids, and the game room was a hit with my family. But, overall the property is a bit shabby and needs some serious refurbishment. For example, there was a water fountain in the hallway next to our room where the spigot had broken off, but you could still push the button and a fountain of water would come out! Also, we did not have good cell service and the internet was out in our wing the whole weekend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Liked: balcony and view of lake, outdoor pool, grounds. Didn't like: walking through arcade gameroom to get to our room, elevator didn't go up to 3rd floor when pushed 3 , it went back down each time someone else pushed a different floor, restaurant food was poor quality. Would not eat at the restaurant again. Outdated decor throughout.
- Robert (10/5): Cozy Cabin - Stayed in one of the cabins and it was very cozy! Perfect little cabin for a romantic stay. Had a mini kitchen and fireplace. Would definitely stay here again.
- Kevin (4/5): Dated hotel - The hotel is very dated and our room was not up to standard. Stains on the curtains, walls, etc.
- Ronald (10/5): - It was very good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The place looks like a very old chalet. Room was clean and up to date
Getting into the room takes 10 minutes to activate the key card. The walk from the desk to the room is 5 if you are walking slow
Lodge is two miles off the main road. Beautiful drive during daylight. There are no lights and signage is scarce in the dark. We missed our turn and it was an adventure to try to figure out our way back. In the forest. In the pitch black
- Ranee (6/5): - The bed in the cabin was like sleeping on a concrete floor woke so sore and stiff . Food at the lodge wasn't very hot and wasn't worth the price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great service! Very nice people and nice atmosphere.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Three night stay with no housekeeping provided. Beds not made, no vacuuming, no bathroom cleaning, no towels and no trash collected. After complaining, only response was to provide two more towels. Property is way past time for renovations. Interiors dark and poorly lit.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cabin not totally clean. we found food wrappers u under the bed.
- Deb (8/5): - Beautiful Setting and available activities ranging from kids arcade to lake and hikes
- JK (10/5): - This is a wonderful state park lodge, with a big fireplace, lots of windows with views to the forest and lake.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great scenery clean room the lodge is awsome. Woild absolutely stay again
