Guest Reviews
- Ryan (10/5): -
- Jamie (8/5): Very good -
- Olivia (8/5): We had an awesome time. We would return in the future. - We really enjoyed our stay. The place was clean & the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed being only a short drive to the beach and the pool was awesome. The pool/splash pad is very kid friendly. One shower had a clogged drain and the Keurig did not work but nothing major. No real issues!
- Raquel (8/5): Very good -
- Casandra (7/5): The house was well equipped, clean, and nicely decorated. We enjoyed our stay. - I asked for towels from the property manager because one of the rooms was missing them. I was told "housekeeping" would be notified and we never received towels. I called the property manager after to let them know about never receiving towels and they were nonchalant about the whole situation.
- Sonya (1/5): Very disappointed with the house. Will not be staying there again - Location to the pool Roaches in the home, not enough dishes for the family
- Shanna (5/5): Decent spot for a last minute, reasonable stay, but don’t expect any support if you have an issue. - The space worked well for our family. It was so nice to be able to spread out. The pool area was fun for the kids. The Internet did not work the entire time we stayed. This meant no tv. We don’t travel to watch tv, but it’s nice to have at night to wind down. Contacted the company every day but the issue was never resolved. A simple instruction card for setting up service would likely have solved the entire issue.
- Miriam (8/5): Very good - Fire alarm in 2 rooms were making noise at 2 o’clock in the morning. I had to go to a 7-Eleven to get batteries to stop the noise.
- Kelly (10/5): Great unit in wonder amenities in the neighborhood. - Location was good, it across the big road so you can't easily walk to the beach but it is at the light so it's an easy drive. The pool area was great, ice cream and snacks available. The property was fairly new and in great condition, having access to the garage was so convenient. The kitchen was well equipped from pots, pans and baking sheets to silverware, glasses, plates and large cooking utensils. Kees Vacations was great to work with! Our unit backed up to trees which was nice for privacy but the patio on the bottom level opened directly to that area and it was very dark at night - it would be great if it were screened in (would help with mosquitos too) for added security.
- Anonymous (10/5): great time aside from the weather - our condo was right by the pool
- Kristina (7/5): had a great stay - neat floor plan and set up.
to be so close together still offered some privacy very uncomfortable bed.
- Heather (10/5): My family had a wonderful stay. - great location and very nicely decorated. Was a very peaceful pleasant stay. I would definitely come back. The check in process was not exactly straight forward and simple. I had to call to get the key code which I thought I would get in an email or text message with instructions.
- KristenI427 (4/5): Undisclosed cameras - We stayed at Two Geese at Cambridge Cove. Beware there are 6 security cameras outside the house that are not disclosed on the listing. I called Kees to find out their policy about undisclosed cameras and was told they are permitted as long as the aren't directed towards a hot tub or pool. We felt very uncomfortable with the two cameras pointed towards the sliding glass doors that could see into the home. When I expressed my concerns to the Kees representative, I was told to "calm down" and my concerns were unreasonable. We did not use the outside patio or deck because we felt as though we were being watched the entire time. Also, there is no grill listed. Unless you consider the stove or electric pancake griddle a grill.
The neighborhood was nice. There was construction but it wasn't too noisy or disruptive to our vacation. The pool was enjoyable for the kids. There were no sidewalks in the neighborhood so we walked on the road to get to the pool. Maybe they will add a walking path once the community is complete. Location was good. Public beach access with restrooms and outside showers/foot wash was a short drive away.
We won't be staying here again. I liked the idea of flex stay but the undisclosed cameras and the rude employee will keep me from booking with Kees again.
- U8176CVanitam (2/5): Disgusting - I arrived at the property to find a big bag of dirty linens in the front hall, beds not made, toilets not cleaned and a very run down disgusting apartment. There is no one on sight to talk to, I called the number given and they said someone would get back with me. They never did. I could not comfortably stay at the property and called back again to say I can't stay here, its disgusting, I want a refund! they say someone would get back with me, they never did. I left and found new accommodations and have disputed the charge on my American Express, they have fought it by saying it is no cancelation policy! Well I didn't cancel, I showed up and it was not livable!
- christinasE8329EW (4/5): Property is not adequately maintained - This property is not accurately described and is not adequately maintained. We were told multiple times we could not check in early due to the time needed for cleaning services to be completed. However, when we arrived, there was a bag of linens left by the front door, a bundle of linens thrown into the top of a closet (not folded, literally balled up and thrown onto the shelf), and the top bunk had a set of sheets folded and thrown in the corner as well as a set of sheets wrapped in saran wrap (we had no idea which sheets should be used for that bed). The garage door was inoperable and there was an old, stained couch being stored in the garage that would have prevented it being used for parking a vehicle anyway.
I reported these issues immediately upon arrival and again the following morning in response to our "hope you enjoyed your first night" email. We heard nothing back from the company until a voicemail the afternoon before we were scheduled to check out (4 days after first reporting the issues) asking if the issues had been addressed. We tried calling back several times and there was no answer and the mailbox was full so we couldn't leave a message. A maintenance person showed up unannounced the same afternoon to address the issues. We turned him away because we didn't want to spend the final hours of our vacation dealing with maintenance since we had already worked around the issues for our entire vacation.
Other things wrong with this property, the grill is not maintained and is a danger to use so we couldn't use it, several outside lights didn't work, a stove burner was broken, the trashcan lid was broken and fell off every time we tried to lift it to throw something away (a minor inconvenience but you seriously can't spring for a new trashcan?!), there were no tables on the decks and very few chairs (if any), and the general cleanliness of the property was insufficient (I found several hairs on bedding and towels throughout the property).
The pictures do not accurately depict this property as it is currently maintained. The website is not up-to-date with information regarding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, i.e., I saw nothing about the pool and clubhouse being closed. Customer service is non-existent when issues are reported. I worry what would have happened if we had an actual emergency that needed immediate attention.
- summerb814 (2/5): Filth - We stayed at Good Vibes ,unit 1109.
The picture on the website for this townhouse is about 5 years old and looks nothing like today.
Where do I begin...
Upon walking up to the townhouse the door to the garage was so filthy you could write your name on it.
Entering the townhouse it looked dirty. The carpet is in need of shampooing. When you walked on it your feet would be black on the bottom. So, you had to wear socks.
Crumbs left on the kitchen counter, hair in the beds and on the "clean" towels.
The unit was hot. We checked to vent and it was so dirty there was no way air could get through it. The only table out side was unusable. It was so rusted around the edges it was falling on the chairs. My mother vacuumed the carpet and filled up the canister twice. The shower curtain in one of the bathrooms would not even cover the size of the shower. All the TV's didn't have remotes. Except the living room. Housekeeping was sent but my mother and I still had to deep clean and rewashed all the bedding to get hair off of them. Matinence came and got the table but never brought another out so we didn't get to enjoy sitting outside. Also, bugs EVERYWHERE! We were told we would get compensated but I knew that would never happen. Never again.
- H3ath3r8 (10/5): Awesome slide and pool!! Great for kids! - We absolutely loved staying here. The staff at the pool is awesome; it’s well kept and clean. It wasn’t jammed packed. The condo was terrific and we had no complaints. It’s plenty of space for a lot of family members. The colors are awesome nice and beachy. Only thing is one visitor spot for vehicles.
- JuleeLindsay (2/5): Booked and had second thoughts - Initially my family and I booked a apartment for five days. The reviews with roaches made us reconsider and so we went to cancel the booking to find that we were going to lose a third of our total deposit - 500 out of $1500! That seemed pretty extreme as we were canceling over 2 months in advance of our trip. Note to others - be absolutely sure you want to stay closer to the dump than you do to the beach. And read the fine print carefully as you can't change without stiff penalties.
- JAC1268 (8/5): I'm here now! - Let me give you a little background on myself. I avoid walking on hotel carpets, I clean my house before the housekeeper comes so she can better do her job, I spend hours looking at reviews before making reservations for anything. I made my reservation for Cambridge Cove in April. It's our first trip to OBX so we weren't familiar with the area. I made the reservation over the phone with a wonderful young lady and the whole payment process was very smooth. I didn't give much more thought to it until a few days before leaving for vacation. I read some recent reviews. Well. Not good. Nervous wreck. We checked into 1102F yesterday. It's beautiful. Nice, good quality beachy decor. The furniture and appliances are clean and of good quality. The kitchen is well stocked.and clean. The beds and pillows are comfortable. The towels are pretty cheap but they're fine and there's enough of them. No bugs, cockroaches, palmetto bugs...saw a couple of spiders on the balconies, as one would expect. I'm walking barefoot on the floor. That's a big deal people! The wifi is fast and we've got smart tvs in all three bedrooms. There are two more tvs in family areas, would assume they're smart but haven't checked. Dual central air, all four levels are cool. It's very quiet. We've got three teenagers with us and don't hear them from our fourth level bedroom. I also noticed the family next to us has many little kids and I hear no noise from they're unit. We'll have to drive about a mile and a half to the beach but that's ok. We're surrounded by restaurants, grocery stores, all the tourist stuff. Kudos to whoever owns 1102F!
- Big-Deeee (8/5): Insiders Point of View - Disclosure: I own a townhouse unit that is not for rent. I have never rented at Cambridge Cove, but have read numerous reviews over the years. I'll offer my two cents worth.
Unlike a hotel, for example, although some blocks of units may be have common owners, many are owned individually and rented as such. Many units may be managed by the same firms. But it is mostly up to the owners to decide what gets done, or whom to trust to take care of them in their absence ... just like most beach rental properties are. One ill maintained property unfortunately taints all the rest. One stroke of bad luck has the same effect. One unkind comment, ditto.
The place is a work in progress. The owners association is working to bring the exterior up to our own high standards. The interiors are the responsibility of each individual owner. From what I have seen, most are very proud of their condos, and their reputation. I'd suggest asking the rental firm (I'm assuming all are rented by a firm) to steer you away from the units that have truly had issues that don't seem to get resolved ... if that is a real problem. Furthermore, there has been some owner turnover in the past few years, and I suspect that some original owners who found themselves strapped for cash during/after the crash did not do as much maintenance as current owners can.
Cambridge Cove is only about 10 years old. They are well built. They have charm. They are well laid out. AC is dual zoned. Which brings about the next point. In the summer, those units having a 4th floor bedroom are going to be the warmest room in the unit. We set the temp on the next floor down before going to bed so the AC runs more, and more cool air is forced upstairs. A degree or two lower may not be enough. But I have an ace in the hole. I have installed a blower booster in the lowest vent on the 4th floor so it moves more cooler air from below up to the 4th all day long. and I shut it off when I go to bed. So I'm not starting off with a warm bedroom. Owners take note. Weekly renters - if you are the first renter, or coming in after a lull in renters, ask the owner or management firm to set the thermostats down days in advance, if they have by chance been raised.
We like the 4th floor. The way our unit is designed, we are two floors above our guests. Nobody bothers anybody. I don't know the layouts of all units, however. You might want to ask.
Amenities. Cant say for sure which ones have cable or satellite or wifi, etc. Pays to ask, or insist. Each owner decides what his/her place has/doesn't. That's sometimes part of the mystique. Not cookie cutter decorating, amenities, etc. Of course, that means some will be better than others. Pays to ask the rental firm for an honest assessment. Don't assume you are getting the unit that somebody thought was the best place they ever stayed ... or that they are all like the one that got an exceptionally bad review. For the prices I've seen, you can't beat the goods ones ... as long as you don't need to be able to see or hear the ocean, etc.
Other points to consider. The pool (I'll call it a lazy river water park) seems a favorite of many. Can't say as I blame them. I'm not a crowded, sandy beach person. Besides, the beach is some ways away. On the plus side, you are dead center in the main part of the OBX, between MP 8 and 8.5. Unless of course you want to consider the Duck (plus/minus) area, essentially another OBX world for some. There are good restaurants in either direction, if you elect to take a night (or several) off from the kitchen. Just a few we like $. Colington Café (a mile away), Black Pelican, Hurricane Mo's, Kelly's, Mako MIke's, Pamlico Jacks, Millers, Millers on the sound, Owens, Dunes, Tale of the Whale, Lone Cedar, Old Nags Head Cafe' (dinner or breakfast), Henry's for breakfast, Darrell's in Manteo for breakfast (a drive, but a nice one over the sound). There are of course others, and we'll let you decide. The above are not cheap, but you usually get your money's worth.
Regardless of where you elect to rent, make sure you let the owner/manager know what you like and don't, and what it will take for you to come back to that place again the next time. You may be doing both of you a favor. If you stay at CC, we hope it is as good or better than you expect. Just don't expect perfection anywhere at the beach unless you are taking out a second mortgage on your house to ensure it.
Best ... BigDeeee
- 775kathleenb (6/5): Roaches or Palmetto bugs whatever you want to call them! - We also stayed in 1111B and also encountered the same bugs others have complained about. My son had to kill them himself. We also called and got no response except to be put off. WE got NO offer to be compensated in any way.
And, as nice as it was to have to bicycles to use, it became impossible to use one of them because it had no inner tube. I can say this because my wonderful husband loaded both bikes into our car and drove them to the corner gas station to pump up the FLAT TIRES. Seriously?
And, if you want your guests to take out the trash upon checking out, then place some dumpsters a little closer so families don't have to drive the distance with the garbage on their laps. Ick.
The interior was pretty much clean and taken care of so I have no complaints there.
Please do a good visual inspection when you arrive!
- jennifercP8865LD (4/5): Roach Reserve - Upon entering the community, visually it appears aesthetically pleasing, upon further inspection, it is quite evident that these condos have been neglected attention. We had a bit of a challenge with the code, but the 24 hour customer service team was quick and responsive to sort that out. We arrived late in the evening and traveled with toddlers, so I did not inspect the property with a critical eye as much as I did the following morning. That morning we went to use the door on the second floor to access the stairs and a flock of startled birds evacuated a huge nest in the rafters above the door. There was a considerable amount of bird feces, broken eggs and feathers that had turned into a lake of sludge because of the early morning storm. This made using that entrance way impossible. In my opinion, at the very least, if someone had taken the time to visit the property, even 12 hours before, in preparation of our arrival, the amount of fecal matter would not have been so bad. The rooms are small but clean, although the amount of rust on the shower fixtures again, reflected that someone barely paid attention to the small but obvious deficits guests will see. Including the huge spiderwebs in the stairwell. The kitchen was not well appointed with the proper amount of dishes, glassware or cooking pots. These were all minor things that we over-looked. HOWEVER, I could not and will not dismiss that the next evening, after a full day of sightseeing with toddlers, we we ready to turn in for the evening. To my horror and disgust, when I turned down the comfortable, a huge roach scuttled across the pillows and under the bed. My husband and I refused to sleep in the room that night. We made the management team aware and the community manager came and sprayed the room. He also removed the bird's nest and feces from the doorway. I sent the company a strongly worded email the same night asking for someone to contact me regarding the incident. I received a call late in the afternoon the following day , where a representative condescendingly told me these were not roaches, but rather Palmetto bugs and that she empathized with me. It did not sound sincere, furthermore, I did not appreciate you trying to explain away a roach crawling in the bed. I have stayed MANY times in South Beach, FL and NEVER once have I seen a bug in the accommodations. Note to this management company If you are going to charge upwards of $150+ a night, like a 4 star resort, bugs are NOT acceptable, no matter their phenotype. By now, my husband and children were sharing a pull-out queen in the living room because we refused to sleep in the rooms. The second night, we arrived home and went to move a p bag from the dining room floor, when two huge roaches did the Electric Slide across the room. Needless to say, management received a stronger worded letter from me. This was unacceptable. We had been in this condo for LESS than 36 hours and had already encountered 2 separate incidences of pests. We left on a Sunday, so I did not expect a call, but the next day, I proactively contacted the company. I did not receive a call back, but DID get another explanation that what I encountered were not roaches. On a Tuesday, I finally received a call from the manager, who prefaced her call with the same dismissal of the roach terminology. She put onus of the birds nest on the HOA of the community, rather than taking responsibility as the management company. She then offered us a stay in another resort they owned, making promises that our experience could be better. I declined and asked if we could be financially compensated. She offered a mere $75. When I explained to her that the offer felt minimal compared to the cost we incurred to stay with roaches. She then offered a future discount on another property that they owned, but I did not relent. She then offered to refund a night. I didn't argue, because the reality is that they are middle man managing a property, that is not maintained by the owners. The owners clearly don't take pride in the presentation of their property, unless they live on property. At this point, Melanie Kite, the manager of Kees Properties has not followed up with me, despite her commitment to do so, nor followed up on the refund offer. It is appalling to me that this situation has not take priority with this organization. I wouldn't expect to find a roach in my accommodations at the Hilton anymore than it would be acceptable in this "four-star" condo! Their lack of attentiveness to presentation, accommodation details, or follow up is reflected in the property itself. I would have rather chosen a chain hotel, at least it is owned by a corporation that values their brand. Read the other reviews on this property. There will always be some that will chance it, but the last few reviews have NOT be sparkling about this ROACH motel.
- christies911 (6/5): It's ok - We stayed in 1109-G. It was very spacious and was plenty big for a family of 4. 4 levels to spread out and nicely decorated. While I was pleased with the well-stocked kitchen, there were no kitchen towels - only paper towels. The kitchen was clean. The carpet was not so much. When we pulled out chairs to the dining table, moved recliners and sofa cushions...not the cleanest! I would consider staying here again because they do allow shorter rentals and the convenience to attractions. I would request that they do a better job of cleaning.
- tracyannel2015 (10/5): We love Cambridge Cover - We go to OBX every year for a girls/kids trip and don't look anywhere else but Kee's Vacation and we always stay in Cambridge Cover @ Bermuda Bay. Not once in the 4+ years we've been going have I ever had an issue. The place is always beautifully decorated and spotless clean. The townhouses have so much room we always have plenty of space for the kids to play and of course the short walk to the amazing pool facility is always a big hit.
The staff and maintenance and everyone I've ever talked to at Kee's has always been more than accommodating and I would recommend anyone stay here. Can't beat the price, location or accommodations.
See you in 2016 Kee's!
- robertcR1049MO (2/5): Roaches! - Beware of roaches! Stayed at Cambridge Cove Unit 1111-B and at night large 2" roaches began coming out in the kitchen area near window! Pretty gross! Would not recommend stay here. Called and complained.
- D4780FFjamesf (2/5): Beware, they don't care.... - I recently stayed in Unit 1334 at Devonshire Place at Bermuda Bay. (August 18-23, 2015). My family arrived on a Tuesday to find the place rather dirty; the floors had not been mopped or vacuumed which is important because I have an infant crawling around. Decorations were missing from the walls, leaving exposed nail heads. Bathroom fixtures missing. And the coat rack had been broken and just laying on the floor. I was willing to overlook all of this and make some minor cleaning a priority so my kids could have a good time and be safe. But on Friday the 22nd we woke up to a broken AC unit. It was hot. I called the emergency number and they quickly sent a couple of kids by to confirm that it was broken. He said that they were going to send an AC guy by to fix the problem- we had planned to be gone so it didn't matter to us. When we got back that evening around 7pm- it looked like it was running, but it was blowing warm air. It was 85 degrees when we arrived. We stayed about one hour to find the temperature had risen to 86.5 degrees. We could not put our three children to sleep in that heat. We left early and went home to Virginia.
I write this because as we were leaving I called to report the unit was still broke. The gentleman I spoke to offered a chance for me to leave the property manager for this property a voicemail. I did so, hoping someone would return my call. Nothing. I sent an email to the account that generated my confirmation, no reply. I filled out a survey... nothing. It doesn't seem that anyone cares that we had to leave early- and that is what now irritates me. Nobody has made any effort to contact me, apologize, nothing. This is no way to operate a business. I would like a refund of the one night that we left. We reported a problem at approximately 1000 hours that morning and left over 10 hours later after it had not been corrected. No offer was made to move us to another location. Please contact me regarding this matter.
- FamilyofFirstBorns (2/5): 1107B -- Don't stay there! - The kitchen only had 2 frying pans. There were no pots, bowls -- and barely enough silverware for our family (of 4) to share a meal. They assured us that there would be an iron, but of course, there wasn't one. The T.V. in our bedroom did not work. We called management for the plumbing issue and they came to fix the sink but didn't fix the tub. The entire trip we sloshed around in shin-deep water while showering. That was all nothing though, compared to the bugs. They were 2 inches big and looked exactly like cockroaches. We were assured that they weren't cockroaches. Whether water bugs or not -- it was disgusting. It certainly didn't make for good sleeping, especially when you could HEAR THEM! They came and sprayed for them one day and when we complained that there were more days later, they left a can of raid on our doorstep. They also told us that no one else had ever had a problem with bugs before. Huh. Problem is, they require full payment one month BEFORE your arrival -- that way there is NOTHING you can do about it! The only redeeming quality was the pool. It was very clean and fun for the kids.
- Q1361CBheatherm (2/5): Cambridge Cove Kees Vacations Kill Devil Hills, NC 1109G - YIKES! This was disappointing to say the least. We stayed here previously, enjoyed our stay and invited family from 1500 miles to stay with us again. what an embarrassment. Management was less than apologetic, less than empathetic. Condo was filthy, dangerous appliances (dishwasher hanging from wall, toaster-see picture), and unusable kitchen supplies-Scissors were unusable. There were peas in the sink from previous tenant. Called 800 number and they said that they would send someone, but who knows if anyone came. Thoroughly disappointed and tried to contact management regarding the 10 issues and she was very disinterested in making things right on this vacation. POOR BUSINESS. Manager blamed us for not calling and that they had already sent money to owner so she couldn't do anything.
- RunnerGuy444 (10/5): Wonderful place to stay! - We rented 1111-D, a 3 bedroom townhouse through Kees vacations here. My expectations were highly exceeded. The townhouse was spacious, clean, and well maintained. We were a group of 6-- 4 adults and 2 children. There was more than enough space for all of us and we felt right at home! The kitchen was very well equipped and we prepared some amazing meals there. It is about a 3 minute drive to the beach and easily accessible to many attractions. We spent a whole day at the Elbow Beach Pool, which the kids loved, with a small water slide, spraying animals and palm trees and a beach entry. The townhouse provided ALMOST everything we needed. There was a really nice grill for BBQing. There was no hand soap, which wasn't a huge deal, we just used the bath soap. It would have been nice if beach/pool towels were provided, but they just provided bath towels. Luckily, we brought our own. The A/C was amazing-- very important after a hot humid day in the outer banks. The beds were also decently comfortable. Overall, we had a wonderful trip mostly due to our comfortable accommodations at Cambridge Cove.

- shekhark2014 (10/5): Excellent Stay - Had a very comfortable stay. we stayed at 1111-F, the unit was neat and clean, relatively new, no dampness or old smell that one encounters in a beach rental. My two year old loved the pool area, the kiddie section is large and had many items of internet for her. Beach is not walking distance, we drove there. But parking was not an issue, there are numerous beach access and we always found parking in the week we stayed there and we were there peak season. The unit had bikes and beach chairs for use. Internet connection was reliable.
- 455AllanB (8/5): Cambridge Cove At Bermuda Bay - Excellent pool, water slide and lazy river limited to condo guests within convenient walking distance of even the most distant unit. Quite a ways from the beach, however - you have to drive and find a parking space at a public access lot before 10 AM to be sure of getting a spot. The Cambridge Cove at Bermuda Bay is less than two miles from the Highway 158 entrance to the Wright Brothers Memorial. The condo unit had a well-supplied kitchen - oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher - adjacent and connected to a family room with TV, Blu-Ray DVD player and fireplace (not needed in July). The unit also had a washer and dryer on another floor.
