Guest Reviews
- Hutcherson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (6/5): The AC stopped working the last night of our stay we called the keys vacation line and they sent someone right out who f - The pool and the co do is spacious. There was black mold around all the ceiling vents.
- Mullen (8/5): Overall it was good after we finally located our room. - It was a nice condo/apartment. Pretty clean besides the tables weren’t wiped off. Still dirty from people before. The directions. It was hard to find. And when we called the girls gave us no help on how to locate the property. And we did not like how the garage wasn’t above our condo, it was below someone else’s.
- Megan (8/5): - The property was easy to find but the room took a minute. We had to drive around and figure out where the pool was and what it was called. A map would make it easier to find. The condo was gorgeous and very spacious. The second bedroom air wasn’t working and it was VERY hot in that room. I called on our second day to get it fixed and no one ever called me back or came to try and fix it. My son ended up sleeping terribly because of the heat. The check out procedure and what needs to be done is hard to understand because the email said one thing but the sheet on the fridge said other items that we didn’t know if they needed to be done or not.
They do have a lot of things for kids though, there was a bag of sand toys for the beach and a bunch of board games. They had a blanket I used while relaxing on the couch. There is also a garage which was nice to get our car out of the heat! The beach was a 5 minute drive up the road with lots of parking if you’re there early like we were!
The bed in the master bathroom is hard as a rock; sleeping on the floor would have been better on the back. My husband ended up sleeping on the couch because of it. The deck had a big sticky spot right by the door, which was gross.
The stay was overall pretty good, but there was a lot of little things that were bad.
- Big-Deeee (8/5): An insiders view ... - Full disclosure. I am an owner at the Hamilton Cay section of Bermuda Bay resort. I do not rent my place out. Very few owners here do, anymore. Gee, I wonder why not!
I'm in the yellow building (1700). I think that only one unit is for rent to vacationers. I don't know that owner, but have seen one of their rental ads, a post card, and my guess is that they are considerate of their guests. If you do find a unit here to rent for your vacation, keep this in mind.
It's your vacation, but this place is our home, so to speak. Please be considerate. The walls between units are not sound proof, unlike at Cambridge Cove where I once owned, just up the street. If you slam a door or a drawer or a cabinet door, of have the TV volume high, or talk loudly, it will be heard. Please think.
Please don't leave trash lying around. Inside or outside. We don't drive by your house and drop trash off. I'm not trying to be snotty. That's just the way it is. Also, don't try to put things in the trash chute that are too big, or should not be included in the trash.
Likewise, if you use the elevator, please do not prop the elevator door open. It will come back to you all by itself if you but press the button. But propping it open will cause the elevator door drive mechanisms to fail. You will not be happy, it will need to be repaired, and you won't like how much that costs.
So, now that that's behind us, what to do for fun? We're over a mile from the beach, but there is parking at the beach entry points, including the one due east at the end of Ocean Bay Blvd. I believe that there is also a very convenient shuttle to the beach, just for our residents and guests, in season. We're watching out for you. Ask you "rental firm" about that, though.
Kill Devil Hills has some great bike paths if you need to burn some energy. The area is great for walking, too. Bikes should not be on the sidewalk, and people should not walk in the street. Please observe speed limits. Kill Devil Hills police are here to protect us both, and they will. If you exceed the 25 MPH speed limit on Bermuda Bay Blvd, you are fair game. That seems so simple, but we know it's easy to drive too fast. It's also easy to injure someone, and ruin their vacation ... and yours.
Please observe all of the written rules and regulations your "owner" provides you. Didn't provide any? Ask for a copy. The owners don't make the rules, for the most part as Bermuda Bay is HOA ruled, so owners are responsible for making sure that you are aware, for the good and enjoyment of all.
There are lots of activities in the area. You can look them up on line. We have a meandering pool at the club house that a lot of owners and renters must love because we see so many people there in season. Enjoy! And pick up after yourself!
We are blessed by having some great restaurants in the immediate area. Two of them are off the beaten path. Colington Cafe' and Saltbox Cafe'. You will need reservations. You can look the rest of the good restaurants up on Trip Advisor, Yelp, etc.
Yes, as far as I know, all units have Spectrum and wifi. As far as I know. You know how to confirm.
Ah, yes, the ponds surrounding Hamilton Cay. They are not for swimming. They are not for trash disposal. You may see wild life in and surrounding. Flying and four legged wild life. As I type, a duck couple and their approximately 13 ducklings are sunning on the opposite side of the pond from me. I've seen river otters, blue herons, cormorants, egrets, water turtles, snapping turtles and geese here from time to time. Admire. Enjoy, but please do not annoy them. We enjoy them, too.
The approach path to First Flight airport is just to the east of the yellow building. If you spend some time on the southern deck, you may get to see single and twin engine private aircraft, private and military helicopters, other military aircraft, the military Osprey aircraft, etc. The largest plane I've seen so far is the Air Force C-17. It's not C-5A sized, but it's big, awesome! It's not nearly as busy here as Chicago O'Hare (I'd know), but enough that on a nice day, you will get so see a few from time to time. Night time, not so much. FF is not a night time operation.
If you find a place at Hamilton Cay to rent for your well earned vacation, be grateful! Would you invest $400,000 to $500,000 in a place, pay $1,000 or more per month just for HOA fees and utilities, etc, not to mention mortgage service costs, and rent it to just anybody, not knowing how it's going to be treated?
I hope you get to vacation at Hamilton Cay. I hope you enjoy it. I hope you come back. It's a great place. Please help us keep it that way.
- Myesha (7/5): Good - It was okay! The dumpsters were so far away there really wasn’t much to do in the area the tubs are tiny maybe invest in bigger tabs that’s about the only thing I have at the moment.
- Danny (10/5): The Hamilton Cay at 'Bermuda Bay by Kees was truly a God-send. We are grateful for this experience. - Our location was so convenient. We were near the main attractions as well as close to the beach. The community was quiet and well kept. It was good to see building in process for future growth. There were pavements for safety while walking through the community. Our facility had a garage which we didn't expect. It was a delightful surprise. We don't have any complaints at this time. We look forward to coming back.
- Hopkins (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (10/5): The most relaxing part of our cross country road trip was the three day stay at the condo in the OBX - Very conveniently located near the Wright Brother's memorial and the main drag in Kill Devil Hills. Spacious and comfortable. My family of 4 had PLENTY of room to relax! We were not on top of each other, like we would have been in a traditional hotel room. Plenty of common areas for us to gather together, too. Not a thing
- Edwards (10/5): Exceptional -
- kisjfkslj (4/5): Disappointing - We stayed in 1700 B1. It was simple, uncluttered, and kind of clean. Several things were broken upon our arrival and the shower would not drain. However, we called KEES and they promptly replied and send someone out to fix the issues the next day. Also, shortly after our arrival we spotted a large black bug crawling across the bedroom floor. This unit was also right next to the trash chute, which we could hear people opening and closing the chute late at night and early in the morning while we were sleeping. Also, plan to bring your own toilet paper. What is on the roll when you arrive is all you get. I called to ask about extra rolls but got no response from KEES. We will not be returning to the property.
- nicholaso117 (2/5): What else is new - So...let me first state the the 1700 building unit C1 is a well decorated unit that seems to reflect a creative owner. Several hand made pieces cover the wall with great taste. The owner of this condo has made the mistake of letting Kees Vacations handle this rental property. The unit lamp shades were filty, you cannot see through the screens due to spider egg sacks. The "tranquil" deck was covered in webs, eggs and debris. We made contact with pics on our first day and 3 days later not a peep from Kees Vacations.
So if you rent a property in the Outer Banks, try to go with any other rental team other than Kees. No matter whose email you have or who you call, Kees does not really care to make it right.
Owners...beware...search out a proper rental team other wise you will lose customers.
- Cindylou (10/5): Bike mini vacation - Great
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not Fantastic, But Still Good - First off, let me say that I thought that the area was pretty and clean. I loved the pastel colors of the condos. I also liked the fact that you did not have to go to a check in desk, but your code is emailed to you 24 hours prior to your visit and it will allow entry at the exact check in time of 4:00 p.m. and will be deactivated at your check out time of 10:00 a.m. The condo was clean and spacious. My complaints include: old television sets in which one was being held up with stacks of books. They also had soooo many different remote controls to the TVs that you had to figure out which one to use. But, there is a DVD player in order to watch movies. The bed was horrible! I did not rest well, because it was too hard. My husband called about a broken coffee pot and never received a return call. There does not seem to be any local assistance, just a number to customer service reps who are not on site and are in another state. The water in the shower also does not get very hot, but just warm. The kitchen was nicely stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. but I thought that dish cloths/ towels would have been included, so make sure you bring your own if you plan to cook. Overall, we enjoyed our time there and if the bed was more comfortable, I would probably return.
- Shannon (4/5): Has potential, but some inexcusable conditions - I believe they manage multiple units, so it's worth noting that ours was 1800B1, which is "Star of the Seas," a 2BR/2BA. The unit was quite spacious and the community amenities are very nice. That's about the best I can say. I asked for housekeeping corrections that were not made. The front door does not lock from the inside, which is terribly anxiety-provoking. The beds are very poorly made, the worst I've seen in any unit. There was a hard crinkly plastic mattress cover, a paper thing bottom sheet, top sheet and coverlet. No real mattress cover, no quilt or blanket, and no extras provisioned in the closets. I asked them to correct the mattress cover, they promised to, but never made any attempt. We finally stripped the bed and removed the plastic cover in order to have a reasonable night's sleep.
- Trail608690 (6/5): Good location, sparse amenities - The Hamilton Cay at Bermuda Bay was our first choice because of the water play area and its handicapp access. Opinions between our family members were mixed.
Pros: Handicap access (elevator) and quiet location with nice view of the sound
Proximity to restaurants, beach access and entertainment
Plenty of space for a family of 6
Cons: wet carpet upon arrival due to cleaning
Sparse amenities (kitchen just has the basics and only 1 towel per person, toiletry items were minimal)
Room was not as clean as I would expect from this price point. Comforter had makeup stains on it, kitchen cabinets were dirty, we found a rather large bug in the kitchen.
Our last day the a.c. unit stopped working. Only fix offered was a small window a.c. unit. Our rental was still at 80 degree temp and we could not open any windows or doors because we were on the 3rd floor and have small children. Turns out there was a simple fix to our problem that the maintenance dept should have been able to identify. We called and left a message explaining what happened and never received a return call from Kees.
Exterior door needs another lock on it.
Based on my experience I would not rent from this particular rental company again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel - Really nice hotel clean very comfortable did have a ant problem but not bad
- si (4/5): overrated! - It looks like the condo building complex generally has been dilapidated and didn't maintain well. It needs more mosquito contron and pest control. It wasn't a welcome tone when we walking up the stairs, the neighbor's dog is barking at us. As I disclosed from Expedia site, not pet allowed in this property. I called Kees Resorts Rentals, they told me the neighbor is owner, not rental. I found it insane that owners are allowed to have dogs barking at renters while renters couldn't bring even a pet. The 3 bedrooms unit should come with a garage parking, but I was told by Kees garage is not part of the rental. another disappointment! (More disclosure about the dogs and the garage on Expedia) The unit we stayed looked like it hadn't been rented by someone for a long time. Floor is dirty and bedding not comfortable. we felt like some bugs bitting while we were sleeping in the bed. The washer and dryers have some debris and dirts which make after washed clean clothes dirtier. The oven hasn't been used for while and have bad odor. Keurig machines without k cups and toaster is too dirty to use. The bedroom with bucker bed with no light bulb in desk lamp. The electric grill outside balcony, power is not enough to grill steak, just litterally boiling it.
- jurisdawn (8/5): Convenient short term rental in quiet community - One of the things I like about Kees Vacations is they allow you to do a minimum 3 night stay in the height of the season where many places require you to do a week long stay. We stayed in a unit on the B level for a long weekend at the end of June. It was the largest two bedroom condo I have ever seen with two separate sitting rooms and a sofa bed in the first sitting room. Could easily sleep 6 people. However, the mattresses in the bedrooms were not very comfortable-- the mattress in the master bedroom felt like you were just sleeping on a box spring. Also, as others have mentioned, there is no front desk, no housekeeping service, and the condos are self-catering. This was fine for a 3-day girls' weekend, but it may be taxing if you are staying the week. I thought Bermuda Bay was a nice quiet community (about a 5 min drive from the beach) even in the busy summer season. Nice pool and community clubhouse.
- Travis (2/5): Cockroachs dirty and they lock you out - We are staying at the Hamilton cay on the outerbanks property and we arrived late Friday night and found three dead cockroaches. Their was hair on the shower walls dust on the top of the tvs and mold in the caulking around both showers. We over looked all this the real problem was we returned to the room Saturday around 5 and the door lock did not work. I called and they said we had a balance due. I reserved this over a month ago through Expedia we where supposed to stay here when hurricane Mathew hit but changed the date because of the hurricane. They charged us $25 to change we paid it figured if they need money that bad to charge someone to change a reservation when they where evacuating many places. Anyway the lady gave us a new code to get us in and said she would check on the balance and would call us back. The next morning after never getting a call I had to call to get the code being that we where outside the night before and couldn't write it down. The lady said this happens sometimes because the site used to book doesn't release the money to them until after the stay. Later we where going to leave again so we tried the code. SUPRISE it didn't work I called again the lady told me they won't give me the new code until I paid the balance. I ended up paying and she acted like the was getting anoyed with me I asked to speak to a manager and she said there was not one working after telling me her manager was the one that deactivated the code again. SO to sum it up we book
- Sunni-Jeff (8/5): Hamilton Cay 1700 Paget Rd Unit C-1 - My family and I stayed here weekend of Oct. 20-23 for a friends wedding. Location was great..easy in and out to main road and attractions. Very peaceful and quiet. Check in and check out was very easy and was satisfied with the unit itself. Only down side was that there was no lock on the inside entry door which made it easy for our small kids to open the door and walk out. Beds were ok...little firm for our choice but managed. Plenty of room for family to spread out and not be crowded...will definitely look at this place again for our next trip.
- 836loril (6/5): Hamilton Cay 1700 Paget Rd, Unit B-1 @ Bermuda Bay - We stayed 9-28-16 to 10-1-16. Reservations were simple and fast, used Kees Vacations. B-1 unit was suggested as we needed "ground floor" for elderly and close to elevator. Unit was 2 bedroom/2 bath with pull out sofa in sitting room. Was advertised as 1 king, 1 queen. Second bedroom only had a full bed, not queen. Carpeting thoughout unit desperately needs cleaning. Furnished nice, kitchen cupboards somewhat sparse. Wasn't a homey feel, no rugs, and little decor. The deck needed to be cleaned, and slider door was difficult to lock. Wi-fi was good, cable tv good. Exception TV in sitting room, no working cable box--- thus no TV. Bed linens ok, towels provided. Since we stayed "off season", entire complex was quiet. Few guests, little noise. We were told (and it advertises) a garage for our use. Kee's vacation not aware how to get into garage as all units are "owned" by individuals. Thus, no garage during our visit.
- Jenn (8/5): Roomy condo in a cute subdivision - Very spacious rooms, common area, and dining area. Decorations were nice. Beds were very comfortable overall. Condo was a short drive to the beach. Fixtures were a little dated, but did not interfere with the functionality. Terrific pool for the kiddos. Place wasn't the dirtiest I've ever stayed in but also wasn't the cleanest. We would stay again.
- Brook (10/5): Nice getaway - Great condo for our family. Very clean and quiet location
- beachbum2463 (2/5): I am dropping my rating from last year - The year has not been kind to this facility since my last review. Missing parts on the coffee maker and closet doors. Dirty dishes in the drawers, burnt out light bulbs and empty light bulb sockets (no danger to kids there!!) in the bathroom. Last year, I was surprised that we had a garage door opener but we didn't get it this year.
The worst thing is we only have ONE bath towel per person for a five night stay. We called Kees Rentals and the response was that they were too busy to run a linen service. No kitchen towels or kleenex either. Kees Vacation Rentals has really dropped the ball.
Update 3 days later – light bulb in the refrigerator is burnt out and in the 2nd bathroom too. I want to say the elevator is really slow but now I can say it isn’t working at all. I can’t wait to lug everything down 4 flights of stairs tomorrow morning to pack up and head home. Kees supervisor was to call my wife back regarding more towels but never did so we went to Belk and bought some. We will not book with this company again.
- Lisa (10/5): Vacation - Beautiful and comfortable place. Very clean. Large kitchen. Perfect location made it easy to get to the beach, dining, shopping, etc. Only downside was spiders outside the main door. But none inside. Customer service was awesome. Very friendly.
- damnthisisannoying (10/5): Nice place - This place is different from the traditional concept of a hotel stay in that there is no consigieres desk, no daily room service, no meal plans. You must shop at a supermarket, bring your food home, cook it, load your dishes...etc. Much like you would do at home. It is a nice complex. Very peaceful. Location is close to the beach, shopping, and restaurants. Parking spaces are plentiful (and free of charge)all around the condo building. The people of North Carolina are really nice (at least the ones my family and I came across during our stay). We had a blast. Hamilton Cay is worth your consideration. Enjoy, and good luck.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great for business or families - Great value.
- Kent (10/5): Best stay! - Wonderful accommodations! Great value for our money! We will stay here again!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The condo was in a nice area and very spacious but was dirty in every room. We had to clean it from top to bottom. There were stains on the carpets and the curtains were dirty. There were multiple light bulbs burnt out and cobwebs through out the condo. While we were sitting on our balcony my husband had water dumped on him from the people above us. If it weren't for these issues I think we would have enjoyed our stay.
- Karen (10/5): Great Birthday - exceptional
- Denise (8/5): Nice Place - Nice place for a small group getaway.
- 501MAZ2014 (10/5): Outer Banks Marathan Stay at Hamilton Cay - Great location. Next to Wright Brothers Memorial, Close to Kitty Hawk and Manteo with lots of great restaurants and shopping nearby. Very large comfortable nicely furnished condo. Larger than expected. Lots of closet space. Nice washer and dryer. Linens included. Large kitchen/den/dining area and another small sitting room area in our 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo. Garage Parking. Nice Balcony.WE had a difficult time finding this place, but called Kees Realtor after hours who were very helpful. We actually tried to check in to a nursing home off of Bermuda Bay that our GPS took us to. Turn left off 158 at Cottlington Dr. Turn left onto Bermuda Bay. Stay straight until go over wooden bridge at end of Bermuda Bay road, then turn right at circle and will see the 2 sets of condos. No check in which was nice also, but make sure you print out your email that contains your building number, unit number and entry code into your unit. We forgot this and had to call Kees Realty again for help. CONS: our internet didn't work, but there is too much to do outside to care about that. Also as other reviewers stated the blinds are useless so bring something to cover the windows and sliding glass doors from the light if you want to sleep in. We did and we were fine.
- Kendra (10/5): September Getaway - So happy we found this place! The condo was spacious and clean. We had five guests but could have easily had a couple more and still been comfortable. The location was very convenient to restaurants, shopping, and the beach. We brought our bikes and rode to the club house at the entrance of the community. The club house had a nice pool, workout facility, and game room with a large flat screen tv to watch sports. Instead of parking our car in the garage, we used it to store our bikes and fishing gear. We cooked and the kitchen was well stocked with gadgets and utensils. Another plus was that they provided some supplies to start with like dishwashing detergent, coffee pods, paper towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo and conditioner. That way we didn't have to rush out to the store the first night. Overall, would stay here again in the future if traveling to the Outer Banks. Much more comfortable to stay in a condo than a small hotel room.
- Scott (8/5): Nice condo - Condo was great but we were not told of exact location or room key code until we called when we could not find the room. They sent emails but we were traveling for three days and did not have email available. Other that that, the condo was great!
- happytrail5 (6/5): Nice but could be better. - We stayed in a 3BR unit in the 1700 building. The condo was pretty and spacious however, it needed a THOROUGH cleaning. After cleaning the commodes, sinks, kitchen counters, and all tabletops it was "ok". The carpet needed shampooed or better yet replaced. All in all, we did like the condo and thought it had tremendous potential if given some attention. The location is great. The pool was nice (would be great if heated). The area was good for biking with children.
- Jill (10/5): Family Beach Wedding - We were there for a daughter's wedding and appreciated that we could rent for a long weekend versus a whole week. The room was Great and gave our family plenty of space. It was nice and clean and having the soap/shampoo dispenser was a great touch. The only problems we faced were that there was not any hand soap for the bathrooms, no hot mats to use with the oven, no coffee cups that would fit the Keurig coffee maker, the sliding back door was not locked and did not seem to have a working lock (But being on the 3rd floor we still felt secure), and of course no real view. All of these items were minor and did not upset our stay.
- beachbum2463 (6/5): Very nice but not for everyone - The previous reviews have been quite right, I will just try to summarize my experience with facts
Pros
This the largest 2 bedroom condo i have EVER seen
It may have been re-done inside recently because it looks new (inside)
I don't know why everyone comments on the bridge - its really nothing special.
Cons
You WILL wake up at 5:30 AM in the master bedroom.
You WILL NOT walk to the pool with children. Period. Ain't happening.
The ocean is considerably more than a mile away plus you have to drive to an open parking spot.
We were taking a shorter vacation this year and beach front units are all weekly rentals so we did this place because we needed something larger than a hotel room. This is a nice place but i regret HAVING (no option here) to drive to everything. Because of constantly loading up the car, this is definitely not the place for families.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Convenient but must drive to everything - Carpets were filthy. Bed linens were thin and skimpy No mattress pad on bed in master suite. Not comfortable as a cleanliness issue. Kitchen poorly outfitted
- Chrissy (10/5): Beautiful Rooms - Great Price! - Loved our Visit. Room was large and in AWESOME Condition! Will Stay here again soon!!
- LynneM5 (10/5): Beautiful accommodations, great location! - Our family stayed in a 2 bedroom condo for Thanksgiving. The unit was absolutely beautiful. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the unit. There are two bedrooms, one with a bathroom attached. The leather sectional sofa also opens up into a queen size bed. A full size kitchen with an adjoining high top dining area is part of the open area. Cable tv, wireless internet are included as well. The Wright Memorial is visible from the balcony and there was even an elevator to make moving in easy!
There are lots if paths for biking and walking. The ocean is a mile walk. The pool was closed when we visited. Great family get away!!
- 269hiliaryb (6/5): Overall great place but not as advertised! - This place was good for a small family but there was no pullout couch. The master bedroom was amazing but the second room was a twin bed so it was small for a couple. The guest shower was a joke and barely big enough for a young child! The spacing was great and the balcony was awesome. The bridge leading to Hamilton Cay was crazy so proceed with caution. The garage was not functional because it was full of furniture.
- BG2013Pete (8/5): Lovely condo, overall a great time! - First time staying at Bermuda Bay, so we chose Hamilton Cay as we have a crawling baby and wanted to avoid stairs. The condo was furnished nicely, clean and spacious. The appliances were new and I liked having a washer/dryer in our unit. Our children loved the pool area which was never too crowded, and the girls (sisters!) working as pool attendants were so sweet (working abroad from Poland - very friendly!)
The condos were new, and they are still developing. The condos were not as close to the pool area as we'd thought, which required a short drive but this didn't bother us too much. Towels and linens were provided which was nice, as were appliances and soap/detergents. I really liked that there were soap dispensers to eliminate wasteful individual packets. Way to go green!
We really have no complaints, the girl Diane who we booked with was very nice, and accommodating.
Cons - There were no deadbolts on the door. There is a keypad to enter the condo, but I would have liked a deadbolt as we have young children and they could have left without us knowing (we moved the heavy coffee table in front of the door just in case). Also, there were NO CURTAINS in the master bedroom so we woke with the sun at 5am which was not a great wake up time for us, we placed blankets over the blinds to subdue the light.
I don't know if pets are allowed, but we saw a fair number of other people who brought dogs with them - I personally have no issue with dogs but it was unexpected.
This really was a nice place to stay, as long as you're ok with not having a beachfront property. You do have to cross the main road, but public parking with beach access was prevalent.
A great place overall!
- Pandamom_9 (6/5): Only if nothing else is available! - We rented side by side condos for a family of nine. Each unit had two bedrooms and a pullout couch. They are old buildings but in fair shape. They're located near a sewAge treatment facility so the air is often unpleasant. Both units have three flights of stairs that you constantly need to climb. That gets old very quickly. The outer doors are controlled with a keypad which gave us some problems. One unit actually needed the keypad replaced! You need to drive to the beach and the advertised water park is a joke.
- Nikita12043 (8/5): Overall Good - We recently stayed here, and the other reviewer's are correct about the "bridge" you definitely want to slow down driving over it, parking is in an overgrown sandy terrain area; patio/furniture not clean; but inside is great & spacious - reviewer who wrote about the front door just being able to be opened from anyone tall enough from inside is correct - if you have small children this would be an issue, plenty of room and great location - we did walk to beach not as bad as other's have said & there is a light/crosswalk at the intersection to get to beach. Pool area was nice, however we were not informed that you have to bring a driver's license with you to get an arm band for pool (we walked to pool - not that far away from condo) & didn't have ID with us - thankfully our family member's name who rented condo was on a list and the young lady let us in, we had a great time in pool - only caution is pool grate's are raised and hurts to step on them.
We would definitely return here to stay.
- DesmondB42 (8/5): Great location if it fits travel plans! - First time booking a vacation rental. Booked a 2-room condo at this property to attend the annual OBX Marathon (during Nov). The photos of the property did not show how clean and spacious it was.
The booking was quick and easy. Our original selection was not available, but we were offered an equally suitable condo for a lesser price. We got the code for the keyless entry the night before and had no issues getting into the condo.
If you just need a place to sleep, cook, and have a good time--this could be the place for you! But consider: the outside is a little different from the inside (at least off-season it is). The inside is neat, well-furnished, and spacious; but outside there were many webs and crawly things. This wasn't really an issue beyond the 1st night's initial shock, but it is something to consider.
There was an issue with the internet the 1st night, but the property manager took time to figure out the problem and quickly resolved it.
The location is quiet. But there are many restaurants and attractions nearby and the beach is barely a minute's drive away.
- Amanda-n-Darren (6/5): Booking nightmare but the condo was nice - Booked the reservation through over the phone with expedia.com and was quoted a rate $90 cheaper than what I was charged. I spent the entire day on the phone with the resort and Expedia attempting to clear this up, but that was a bust. The resort could care less and did not bother to call me back until the DAY BEFORE MY TRIP to address my concerns. The Resort Staff Member who returned my call just informed me that my stay was non-refundable and then gave me a code to get into my condo; she did not care that I was being overcharged and did not offer to resolve the situation. It was stay there and pay that extra money, or don't stay there and still pay the extra money because it was all non-refundable. I was told my credit card would be charged at check-in, but it was charged in advance.
The Resort Staff Member told me "Building 1700, Condo XX, Security code: xxxxx", and that was the extent of my interaction with anyone from the resort- I did not see anyone in person and there was not anyone on the resort grounds to speak with. What was not explained is that Building 1700 is a row of condos on a street, that is not Cambridge street like my itinerary stated, located in the very back of the development... there are not signs that point you to the locations and since it is also a residential area, there are not resort signs either. After searching for 20 minutes around the development, we found our condo. The garage was full of old furniture so we had to park in the "guest parking". Guest Parking was a overgrown area across from the condos that was not trimmed; you park your vehicle in sand riddled with debris and overgrown plants. There is not lighting there either, so watch out for the crabs and other wildlife. I saw someone get their vehicle stuck the last day so I would not reccommend parking a car there, SUV or trucks only.
The condo was nicer than I had expected; very roomy and well kept. Looked as if they had just replaced the furniture and decor. Downside, the dryer and dishwasher were not operational. The balcony did not have furniture either, but that is not deal-breaking. There was a living room, family room, eat in kitchen/ dining area, one master bedroom, one guest bedroom, and two full baths. The reservation said it slept 6 and I agree, six people would have been well accommodated as there were two nice sleeper sofas in addition to the bedroom sleeping arrangements.
The development looked run down on the outside and there were areas where they had began to build additional housing units but stopped- I assume they lost funding. The bridge was a little unstable and all the houses could use a good power washing. The pool area needed to be landscaped but overall was in safe condition.
The location was on the other side of the highway, too far to walk to the ocean for most folks. {that is a long walk and crosses a busy highway} The resort's pool area makes up for that since it would be a great place for children...
Would I stay there again? Possibly... but only in an SUV or truck and only if I was given the rate I was quoted.
- TravelingFrancis5 (4/5): 1st impression's last! - We took our 2 small children on a weekend getaway @ this location. Upon entering the property, we noticed most of the grounds were unkept and that the entire property looked as if it was a ghost town. It appeared they had built the existing properties and just stopped the devlopment. There is a small wooden bridge you "must" drive over to get to theses condos and everytime we drove over it, the planks were popping up under our truck (not to mention the look of it) Our 1st impression of this place was horrible, so bad in fact, that I immediately went to the clubhouse to complain before even going inside the property. There in lies another problem, there is no one managing the club house. To check in, they have a flyer on the front door of the clubhouse instructing you to call the rental agency to get a code for your door. So we did and I immediately addressed my concerns about the property. I was informed this was the only thing they had available and since they had already charged the entire stay (non-refundable) I was stuck. I was assured by the woman on the phone that I would be completely satisfied and she would have the property manager check it to make sure. As I came up to the condo (B1), I found the property manager under our patio picking up busted patio furniture that appeared to have been launched off 1 of the above patios and the trash chute was so full that people were piling their trash on the ground in front of it (which was also next to our door) So we checked the condo and found the inside was way better than the outside. All the construction and appliances were new, the furniture showed a little wear and the housekeeping was lacking. We found trash and things on the floor around the condo and some food left in the freezer. We did have our own garage and a patio that overlooked the rickety bridge but at night we could see the light from the Wright Brothers memorial. There is an airport close by, so you will hear planes and helicopters frequently. Also, the outside of the property was fairly dark and the parking lot (if your vehicle is too big for the garage) is out of sight. You can park in the empty dirt ot right across from front door of the condo but beware of construction debris, sandspurs and other rugged vegetation. The inside of the property was very spacious, full master and second bedroom with a bath, family room and living room as well as open kitchen and dining room. Lots of closet spaces and kitchen amenities. 1 of the major problems we had was the lack of door security, with 2 small children there should have been a way to lock the door from the inside so they couldn't just run out. We had to prop a table against the door to prevent them from just opening it and walking out and like wise anyone else from entering a code and coming right in. However the pool area was very child oriented. It's a bit compact (beach area, lazy river, slide and pool are all small spaces connected in a tight pattern) but it had lots of sprinkling toys in the beach area and it's nice and shallow for little ones. You do have a bit of a walk to get to the pool area, we just drove down there and I would say the closest beach is about 3 blocks away and across a busy highway, so you would need to drive. Our 2nd major problem was the neighbor (they are permanent residents) Every morning at 9 am, the youngest member of the household would crank up his stereo (which is located on the other side of the master) blaring some awful techno club music through the walls and it wouldn't stop! The last day of our stay we said something to the young man and he went to get his parents to confront my husband. Apparently they couldn't understand why we would complain to their obviously adult son, they felt we should have brought it to their attention. I figured "they" would have told him to turn it down themselves with as loud as it was! In my opinion, if you never had to see outside the condo, it would be nice (and if you didn't have any neighbors) But the fact that you have to drive through the entire development (or lack there of) and see most of it overgrown and unkept really takes away from the condo itself.
