- Susan (2/5): - This was a last minute booking to see a gig at the ovo hydro. They overcharged at £162 for a night. The hotel was very run down, bald dirty carpets, curtain pole falling off wall, bed uncomfortable and smelly. En suite was dated and unclean. A 2 star rating is very over exaggerated.

- Lesa (2/5): - I spoke to a member of staff about the issue and was informed that it would qualify for a refund I am awaiting same. Just learned from expedia that the property will not refund me for suspected bed bugs in room. They were in all three beds and crawling on the walls.Unfortunately we did not discover them until after 5am (the following morning of our 1 night stay). I showed this immediately to the staff who was at reception- they saw them on the wall and they said “we do no usually get bed bugs in this room”. They did suggested that if I contacted the people I booked with I should be able to get a refund. I would really like some advice on this matter- the hotel is saying that they would only honor the original cancellation policy and apparently my room was non - refundable. Should this apply if there is an issue with your room/ stay?

- Angus (4/5): A cold stay😓 - I expected basic board due to what I paid,so that was fine. The problem I had was the room was cold,the radiator wasn't on and l could not get it to work.Also the window could do with replacing and maybe cushion the sides of the bed or make it stable
- r (8/5): Great Location - Great location, minutes away from Kelvingrove park. Buses virtually outside the hotel, great for getting into the centre. Friendly staff and a good value breakfast.
- poppins1984 (2/5): Do not stay in this awful hotel. - The carpet was dirty heading up to the room, the smell of smoke in the corridor, so people are smoking in their rooms (the fire alarm system clearly not working), damp smell in the bedroom, bait box for mice by the window, condensation and mould around the window, white stains on the bed sheets, mould on the ceiling above the shower, hairs on the toilet pan, dust on the tv, random dirty chair and carpets . . . the list could go on. After complaining to them and Booking.com, they refuse to refund, despite all these unacceptable conditions. Then the hotel records you as a 'no show'. It's a bit silly of them to do so, considering the alarming number of CCTV cameras inside the property.
- Janeo72 (2/5): Horrendous experience for a single woman - It's so interesting to read how many people have also experienced an awful stay at this hotel, it's a surprise people still stay there. I had the worst experience I've ever had in a Glasgow hotel, and I stay weekly in different venues for work each week. I will never stay in this hotel again mainly because of how rude and ignorant the receptionist was. You are not allowed to raise a complaint about this hotel, otherwise they just decide to cancel your booking and tell you to leave the hotel!! I booked for 2 nights when there was a big Glasgow football game on, so they inflated the prices for the 2 nights, but the room I was given is normally about £35/40 and with a separate bathroom, and a shower upstairs, I wouldn't have normally booked this. When I paid £65 for both nights, I presumed it would be fine. I have paid less than this in other hotels and never had such a horrific room. The kettle 'blew up' twice, the element was charred and ancient and caused smoke in my room, so you would think you could open the window to rectify this - no, it was jammed shut. The room was no bigger than a prison cell, and felt like one, as there were stains on the walls and the sink kept blocking. I struggled to sleep due to the smoke which triggered my asthma, and overall I had the worst night. I couldn't speak to any manager the next day, so I checked out and phoned that morning to complain and seek an alternative room. Upon arrival after work, I was happy to accept the alternative room without seeing it as anything was better than the tiny single space the night before! However, as soon as I said I wanted to discuss how bad the room was the previous night, and the fact that the price paid was not acceptable, the receptionist suddenly started to verbally argue with me, and basically told me to leave the hotel. I was therefore a single female, with no accommodation, having paid for 2 nights, and told to go leave with no care for my welfare. I was due to attend an event that night, and the stress of this was terrible. I complained to booking.com but basically had to find alternative accommodation at 6pm on a Thursday night in Glasgow. I have no doubt, that as with every bad review on here, the hotel management immediately blame the guests and try to claim that we are at fault, which is very disappointing. Perhaps if they took the care the think about basic customer service skills, they wouldn't have so many negative reviews. If you don't complain, they seem to leave you alone. Avoid at all costs.
- SarahFahmy22 (2/5): Very rude - I booked two nights at the hotel. I checked in and I didn't like the room so I checked out early and didn't stay for the second night. The lady in reception Hena confirmed that the hotel will refund the second night. I was surprised they cancelled my reservation as a No Show and refused to refund any money. It is not only that, it is how they responded to us, how rude the reply was. I was not expecting 5 star hotel and I was in Glasgow for a medical conference. Worst experience ever. Very rude. Not to mention the hideous room I wouldn't let my dog stay in for one night.
- Kevin (4/5): - First the positives: great area, an overall helpful staff and a surprisingly good breakfast. Now the negatives. The place was old, unmaintained and in bad condition. The biggest issue was that it was on the third floor (no elevator, of course) and stiflingly hot during our stay there (no air conditioner, of course). There was also a weird, inexplicable knocking sound from the roof (sometimes aggressively, sometimes less so) every evening at the same time. Because the room had only one window, which was on the slanted roof, we couldn’t see what it was. Not a good place at all. Though you are paying less than other places in the area, I would avoid it altogether. Weird hotel. Bad value for your money.

Bedding had not been changed and staff very disinterested when this was mentioned - though did offer to change room - however by that point i had ended up changing bedding myself. Dining room was empty and in darkness at breakfast time - Staff looked surprised when i went down for breakfast so i took that as a bad omen and decided not to risk it

I thought the room was fine. I hold quite a lot of affection for this place as the staff were like family to me at a hard time in my life. I miss the breakfasts. They were great.

- 846beckas (6/5): very friendly staff! - after arriving in glasgow and my hotel no longer able to accommodate me and my partner, i found this hotel on booking.com. although i read bad reviews I still decided to give it a go. I rang the hotel and explained what had happened and asked if they could accommodate us and if i could pay by cash on arrival. they were so understanding and put us up straight away, when arriving the man on reception checked us in he was very welcoming, gave us a parking permit, explained how taxis worked and give us the information we required. the room was bog standard, double room and private bathroom with a fan (all you need for a nights stay), would stay again, location was spot on and service was brill.

- Gaz1968 (2/5): Fawlty Towers - Worst hotel I have ever stayed in had to request to change room at 11:30 after getting back from gig as window wouldn’t shut and bathroom fan wouldn’t go off no chance of sleeping with the noise eventually got another room on approaching new room the stench of cannabis was horrendous both rooms filthy with dust the replacement room toilet seat was hanging off shower head held up with blue rope and the net curtains which I assume were white originally were yellow absolutely disgusting avoid at all costs safe to say I will never be back

- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap but not quality - Place is affordable but basically the quality you’d accept of a youth hostel. Could be cleaner. Whole place needs to be painted, refreshed and lamps, etc repaired/replaced. Only one towel in the room and no floor mat or shampoo. Fine if you don’t care about the quality and just need a cheap room. That said, for what it was, I’d say the price should actually be half. If we go budget again we’ll use a chain hotel.

- hughd766 (10/5): Great Value Hotel - At first was worried because of some previous negative reviews but was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was a lot better than what others have been saying on Tripadvisor. I mean yeah sure its not anything fancy but I got a clean bed and very friendly service all throughout my stay at a very decent price on a busy Saturday. In my capacity as the head trustee at the National Mental Health Society and in my voluntary role with Veterans Project UK I travel all over the UK and stay 5 nights a week in cheap bed and breakfast hotels and guest houses to save money. Smiths is appalling. Having stayed before I knew not to expect anything special but that it would represent value which is important with my employer being a charity. This time i was treated with no respect, ripped off and embarrassed. 1st we were allocated a room that was not even vacant. 2nd we were moved to a single room (2 people) 3rd the noise and the heat, the condition of this single room was bad. 4th i mentioned it to the owner who said next time free room (charity would be happy) 5th i returned and was told to pay again, but my room would be better. Not nearly good enough. 6th the owners wife was rude, condescending and dismissive

Excellent location near all the main sites and very friendly hotel staff who were happy to answer my questions. Room was clean and there was building work going on but didn’t cause any disturbance for us as we were out during the day and it ended before we came back. Would highly recommend for a good value stay in the heart of the city

- Verified traveler (6/5): - Handy location near Kelvingrove Park, close to a few nice restaurants. The hotel, however, seemed to be deserted and my room seemed to have been untouched since they've cleaned it after the previous guest left (weeks ago I imagine) - there was a lot of dust, the cups and the spoon were sticky. Other than that it was just a decent quiet hotel.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not good - We got in the room, stayed for 10 minutes and found a new hotel. There was damp in the room the room smelled. The bathroom was clean but was bits in shower. There wasnt a recptionist on all the time. Cameras everywhere we felt unsafe.

- carolinesP3728NR (2/5): Female - Checked into a single twin room with en-suite. Realised quickly that the bathroom cabinet light didn’t work, the shower stank with cigarette smoke, the shower head was hanging off the wall broken as well as the soap tray in the shower. The next morning we asked for a change of room. We moved a couple of rooms away. This room had a double and a single bed but every single drawer in the chest of drawers was broken and there was no hairdryer. However the bathroom facilities were slightly better than the other room. On my last night I noticed that my foundation cream and moisturisers were missing. It’s interesting that on the same trip a pair of earphones went missing but I can’t guarantee that this was from the hotel room. I searched everywhere in the room in the morning and then after breakfast I reported this to the hotel manager asking what I should do. He became quite angry and said “How date you insult me or my family business that has such a good reputation for the sake of a couple of pounds!” Actually the cost was more like £25 and all I wanted was an apology at worst or at best a refund of a night’s accommodation or the price of the missing products. He sent 2 of his staff members to go search my room with me. As expected nothing was to be found. I went to reception again and the manager had left and his son was in place. I explained the situation again and clearly his father had discussed the matter with him but he said it was my choice to stay there and leave my products there and that the hotel was under no obligation to do anything. I thanked him and left.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Smiths Hotel was cheap and cheerful. We were looking for somewhere to get our heads down after a night out in Glasgow and it was perfect for that! Bed was clean, towels were clean and toilet was clean so you can’t really ask for much more for such a fantastic price! Staff were friendly enough with a 24hr reception which would have been handy if we had needed anything during the night (which we didn’t). Vending machine for late night snacks and breakfast included. Would definitely return for a cheap night’s stay!

Central for all amenities and sightseeing. Good local restaurants and pubs in the area. The lack of an elevator may be challenging for some people.
- SG20102014 (2/5): Never again - Cheap and not cheerful. Fly's in the room and round breakfast. Hairs in the shower. Bleak and mouldy looking room. Had to give photo ID when checking in too which was odd. Breakfast was ok, however one of our group found something weird in his beans which looked like a bit of chewed sausage so kinda put us all off. Cup and glasses also dirty. Room was cold and lock diffecult, took 10mins every time we had to open the door. There are other places similar price which are a lot better and clean! Do not recommend and will not return.

- DJMCGUIGAN (8/5): Suchiehall Street Hotel and Area... - Decent hotel for price paid.. Breakfast staff very hard working. Don't normally stay in a room that has no on suit. Manager (or owner) rather impolite and barged into my room as I was leaving.. Not sure what his reasons were however I find that rather insulting. As a long time traveller I expect certain standards particularly from senior staff.... That aside I did enjoy my stay... Situated in a wonderful area.. Very good for shopping, eating out and socialising in general. I'd stay again in a different room.
- leorR1998YZ (2/5): Been in better hostels - Leaving a late review as been unsuccessful getting refund even though we never stayed the night. When we walked in and up to the check in desk the receptionist never even got up from her chair in the wee computer room that’s further back from the desk. She then just nodded like what are we wanting no niceties or anything. Then after giving me the key and saying nothing I had to ask where the room was. We find our room a couple of floors up right at the end of building, clearly by the size of the room use to be a cupboard it’s not a double... so tiny room for 2, dirty room with filthy curtain lining, water stained ceiling with the cap not on the light showing the exposed wires.. It was just a joke. If that’s what the obvious stuff is that they’re not bothered about covering up what would the bed be like? I wasn’t gonna check that. We just walked straight out and tried the Argyll next door. The difference was night and day.. I’ve put a picture of the room at the Argyll at the end of my pics to show the difference.. other reviews keep saying what do you expect for a budget hotel? We got this room cheaper, it was twice the size, spotless and the staff were friendly!

- angel_val2014 (6/5): Weekend stay - Myself and my boyfriend cane here to stay for 2 nights. Having read the reviews we were a little nervous about staying here and had only picked it for the location as we were attending elfingrove and wanted somewhere nearby. On arrival reception staff were friendly. There is no lift and we were on 3rd floor and stairs were a bit tight, not ideal when carrying up bags. The room was small but clean. It’s served our purpose as the location was ideal. Probably wouldn’t go back but wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought.
- arlenereanwy (4/5): Smiths hotel - Smiths hotel sauchihall street glasgow. Well what can I say, great area to be in, close to Kelvingrove museum, lots of pubd and restuarants and local ammenites. Bus stop outside hotel. Hotel itself is like a hostel, definitely a budget hotel in need of a lot of refurbishment. Tv in room, good wifi, staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast mmm wasn't the best but can't stress enough this is a budget hotel.

- L. (2/5): - Booked this room and then immediately afterward (within 5 min) read on their property description on Expedia that they have a midnight close on checkin with no late arrival option. We had a late flight and I am traveling with my senior citizen mother. I didn’t want to chance having her on the street. Called Expedia and they contacted the hotel a couple of times and asked if we could cancel. They said no, that it was a non refundable reservation and they refused to cancel it. Then I called the hotel and explained my concern. Imagine my delight when I was told that the description on Expedia hadn’t been updated and they indeed had a 24 hour front desk. I told them that was great and we’d be seeing them (as that had been my only concern). We arrived and they had cancelled my reservation and given my room to someone else. The night porter was sweet - he did everything he could considering the rough situation. They only had one room left available and it was a complete shoebox and only had one double bed and no toilet (not even a toilet on our floor!). This was very stressful for my mom as I had booked a triple room with an en-suite. My husband had to sleep on a blanket on the floor. There was a little sink and a broken old television in the room and that’s it. We couldn’t even fit a medium suitcase turned on it’s side through part of the entry way without lifting it up. A terrible first night of our Scotland vacation.

Forgot to mention to the staff that the room's chair had a broken leg. The service was very nice and friendly, which is the most important.

- A (2/5): - The only decent thing about this place is one of the front desk people. The breakfast was awful to say the least, grease on everything and no flavour to anything. The hot water in the bathroom went of for at least two hours and when we called down to reception to report the problem it took more than an hour for someone to come up and even then he did nothing of any use and had no idea what he was doing. The room was not cleaned before our arrival as a pair of underwear was found behind the bed and was still there after the cleaner had supposed to have been in after our first day of staying. The ensuite room we stayed in was on the top floor meaning a sloped roof which was is only good if you're under 5 feet tall. Double room with two guests we were only given 1 towel and after we went to reception and got another one, when they were changed over the next day we were only left 1 again. Not worth the money I paid. If you can spend am extra £10 to stay somewhere else then I highlight recommend doing so. Budget hotel does not mean budget standards.

- Katie (10/5): Great place for a bargain weekend in Glasgow. - We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was cheap so we weren't expecting luxury. The whole building is quite old and some parts are a bit run down. But it is clean and the staff were excellent! We had a 'shared bathroom' but in reality this was a private bathroom, it just wasn't en suite but across the corridor. The room was completely quiet, no road noise or anything, which I did not expect for Glasgow. The black out curtains were also excellent and completely blocked out ambient street light. Breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked and very quick, with copious amounts of (strong!) filter coffee available. Staff were very attentive and the tiny breakfast room was quite quaint. The only real minus point for me was the shower was really not very good, there was very low pressure. But certainly for an overnight stay we were very happy and would visit again if we were staying over in Glasgow. It's cheaper than the cheap and nasty easy hotel, with lots more bedroom space!
