Guest Reviews
- Jason (10/5): - Set on a hilltop overlooking the town the Hotel was really picturesque. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at this unique Hotel.
- Richard (4/5): - Rooms lit only by cold glaring fluorescent lights. Property has great views, but is near to nothing. Individual hot water heaters in rooms not sufficient for showers. Restaurant food is mediocre, and restaurant not always open when expected to be.
Attentive staff, but that plus good views aren't enough.
- Louise (8/5): Lovely place to stay. - I arrived very late at night (2300). I tried to call the hotel to let them know but was unable to contact the hotel - the phone number wasn’t correct, so when I arrived the gate was closed. Apparently, you could slide the big gate open but I didn’t know that. When I did get in (a local person phoned the hotel), the staff were very nice and checkin was easy despite little English being spoken.
The suite was huge with a full lounge, a huge bedroom, bathroom and a kitchen/storage area. Everything worked and was very clean. Very comfortable. The view from the patio of room 01 was fabulous. The hotel was quiet,
Breakfast was good and varied and fresh. The staff were extremely helpful and always professional and polite.
They have a shuttle bus that took me to and from a museum (MAG office - google it - so interesting).
Despite the initial arrival issues, I would stay here again and wish I’d had more time here.
Colazione media.
- todd (10/5): - Nice quiet location; close enough to the main drag to walk. Sweet vista from restaurant. Breakfast was just okay. Very reasonable price.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Charles (10/5): very nice - Staff is very, very helpful, great view and private location. Very clean and everything worked in the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Resort pulito vicino alla via principale. Silenzioso e immerso nel verde
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Room was clean and spacious only aspect I would fault is that the beds are very hard. We had dinner at the restaurant found the food to be good and reasonably priced and enjoyed watching the sunset over the hills. Hotel was perfect for a two day stay to visit the plain of jars.
- Heather (8/5): - This is probably the best hotel in Phonsavan and it has the potential to be great - lovely setting with amazing views and a complimentary shuttle into town. The rooms are also very spacious but just really need a makeover - outdated decor - and we had a very hard bed but we ate in the hotel and it was delicious. So, it’s just very tired and the staff try hard but struggle with English more than we encountered elsewhere. But it will only get better if people come to this area so I would encourage people to come and support it.
- Theresa (6/5): Run Down but Great Views - The room we stayed in was a little tired and worn. There was a cool bathtub (in a kitschy way) but the drain plug didn't work which wasn't really a problem since it would have taken a week to fill with the minimal water pressure available. It looks like they are building new rooms when it might be better for them to redo the ones they have or at least replace the mattresses. We were there during the very, low season which I think impacted the food which was pretty bad. If you stick to Lao food, you do better. On the bright side, the views from the hotel were wonderful. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony of our room drinking wine and taking in the view. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The shuttle will take you to town or to the airport. It seems far from the center but it was an easy walk - even in a downpour.
- John (10/5): Excellent Hotel - Nice hotel on a hill with good views. Since it was low season, the hotel had few guests, so it was quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed my large room with comfortable bed/pillows. Nice bathroom with shower/soaker tub combination. The water pressure in the sink was somewhat low, although sufficient enough. Great wifi in the room (#25). Plenty of space and hangers for clothes. The balcony was good size with chairs and table and a nice view. I thoroughly enjoyed the balcony.
The staff were very nice and accommodating. Breakfast choices were good and the stir fried noodles with vegetables, as well as the stir fried rice with vegetables, I had were excellent.
It is about a fifteen minute walk from the hotel to the main road in Phonsavan. Not much that I could find to do there, but there are plenty of restaurants.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean hotel - Clean hotel, good place to stay for a visit to the plain of jars. Quite expensive we felt but restaurant is nice and not expensive.
- William (8/5): Good Value! - Staff were friendly and helpful, though there wasn't a lot of English.
- Gloria (8/5): Great views n moth diversity - Great setting atop a hill with 360 degrees view of the beautiful countryside. Within 15 to 20 min walk from town, so location was pretty good too. Roomy n clean rooms. Bonus was the great diversity of moths attracted by the bright lamps. They conveniently landed on the walls n ceilings of the corridor just outside our room #45. We spent much time photographing the many colourful species tt visited. Particularly attractive were the rarer Hawk Moths.
- Louise (8/5): Good hotel, disappointing bathroom & cold at night - Attractively situated but far from town. Although not much in Phonsavan anyway so no big loss. Rooms comfortable but cold as no heating & the town is cold at night. Dining room especially cold despite a huge (empty) fire place. I shivered my way through dinner, ate quickly & left. Bathroom disappointing. Shower fittings didn't work & water pressure low. Bath looked pristine but firstly the tap failed to pour into the tub (went to the side & dribbled into the tub), then there was insufficient hot water to fill the tub, then what was in there was draining away as the plug wouldn't seal. So all in all not fit for purpose. Service: as always people helpful but English a bit weak so sometimes hard to make yourself understood. Positives: rooms large, contain all expected features of a hotel in this price range, including loose tea, a spacious balcony with lovely views. Rooms are clean & in good condition if a little dated. Nice touch of fresh foliage in vases. All in all didn't regret my choice.
- Amanda (6/5): Serves a purpose - The hotel was very clean and does have an amazing sunset view; given that this is slightly off the beaten track the hotel was good enough for two nights.
I had booked online but the hotel couldn't find my booking and tried to charge me twice even though I showed the email confirmation.
Breakfast was awful and I would recommend avoiding it and going to Bamboozle in the town to eat.
- William Ross (8/5): Good spot for a short visit in the cool season - This is a pleasant if slightly dated hotel with friendly staff and a good location on a hilltop just behind the town. Our only major surprise was that the hotel did not have air-conditioning (in rooms or public spaces) - fortunately for us our stay was in cool season (November to February) and the hilltop location allowed for good natural ventilation, so we were OK (just) without any air-conditioning. A visit in the summer would however have been a very different matter.
Right after check in I did go to the Hotels.com listing to see if air-con was mentioned (it was not - so there was no mis-representation) - I had just assumed (incorrectly) that a hotel in this price range in the tropics would have air-conditioning. I do however really believe that the listing should have specifically mentioned this fact.
