Guest Reviews
- Kent (10/5): Would stay there again if back at Niagara on the Lake - Top drawer breakfast
- Nicholas (9/5): - Lovely quiet room
Delicious breakfast
Shirt walk to historic downtown
- Mónika (10/5): Egy békés kedves környezet segítő kész házigazda - Nyugodt barátságos Ilyen nincs
- Sara (10/5): - location, room size, amenities, breakfast, host responsiveness
- Geoff (10/5): - This was an amazing experience right from booking through to reluctantly leaving. Everything from our room, breakfasts and the area was exceptional. The rooms are themed, we were in the "SILK ROAD" ROOM. AND beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. Deanne and Aleck were excellent hosts giving good advice on where to visit etc. We would stay here again when visiting the area. Nothing to dislike to
- Donna (10/5): Wonderful - Beautiful and very clean
- Karen (10/5): It was very comfortable and enjoyable. We would stay again. - The grounds and property were exceptional. Sitting on the balcony having our coffee in the morning very calming. The hostess was very pleasant. We didn’t stay for breakfast but wished we had.
- Shelley (10/5): - Room was spacious, very quiet, unexpectedly supplied water bottles, coffee, tea, snacks and their theme decor breakfast was presented beautifully and delicious. Hosts were very knowledgeable of the area and when leaving helped us locate other destinations to locate before flying home.
Had a very relaxing stay
- Heath (10/5): Very comfortable, great breakfast, great hosts - Location was excellent, very spacious room and en suite, great attention to detail There were no negatives
- William S (10/5): - Excellent room and location. Very friendly hosts and were very accomodating
- Amy (10/5): - Stunning gardens, immaculate interior, and exceptional hosts!
- Kenneth (10/5): - Everything great. Will come again.
- Freddy (10/5): - My wife and I stayed over the Easter weekend and was warmly greeted by Deanna. I saw pictures on the Google maps and Expedia page but to step into it is something to behold! Everything was carefully curated to the finest detail, capturing the theme of the Safari. The bed was comfortable, and there’s a balcony for some casual reading. And although we didn’t enjoy the outdoor hot tub, but there’s one inside the room with all the amenities for a great experience. We chose breakfast on the day we left and was treated to a delicious breakfast, again with beautiful decor surrounding us and details to the napkin with the dragonfly. My favourite was the eggs Benedict! We left very grateful for this weekend getaway!
- Jennifer (10/5): - Wonderful property with the excellent breakfast. Hosts are wonderful
- TIffany (10/5): - The Explorer House was an absolutely beautiful place to stay! The owners , Deanna and Alec, were more than accommodating. Their attention to detail makes it an extra special experience. The breakfast every morning is exceptional. (Make sure to bring an appetite!) we went during a snow storm, so we utilized Uber for transportation, but in the warmers months, it’s an easy walk into the historical town with lots of shopping and places to eat. 10/10 recommended and would definitely come back again !
- Szu-An (10/5): - Everything is fantastic. The host is really friendly and kind, plus the room interior is uniquely designed yet well-balanced. This is a place to take a good rest, however, it's better to drive a car here.
- Lisa (10/5): - Wonderful bed and breakfast and we would definitely stay here again!!!
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Hosts are welcoming and flexible. Home is immaculate. rooms are spacious, private and comfortable. Evening stroll to the outdoor jacuzzi. Convenient location. Nothing comes to mind.
- Dianne (10/5): Overall, very much enjoyed our stay. Hope to return! - The bed and breakfast is immaculately clean inside and out. Beautifully landscaped. Breakfast was delicious. An outdoor hot tub in the back yard would be wonderful in warmer months. More ability to control the temperature of the unit would be helpful.
- Brittany (10/5): - I do not usually write reviews, but we loved our stay here. We love various types of foods, and the breakfast was amazing. Would stay here again, what a great way to celebrate our anniversary!
- John (10/5): A Gem of a Property - We very much enjoyed staying here. The proprietors are friendly and responsive. Amenities were excellent; breakfast was wonderful. One of the best parts was talking to the owners; it quickly became evident why they call it "Explorer House." The house only has three rooms and you are seated together for breakfast, enhancing the experience one gets with a true B&B. Cannot recommend this one enough.
- Francis (10/5): Beautiful in every way! - Lovely house, gorgeous room, beautiful grounds, amazing breakfast (three courses), charming hosts, interesting guests to chat with. The compete package in a fabulous town!
- Monique (10/5): - Very welcoming and comfortable B&B. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are separate from the rest of the house along with a mini kitchenette and lounge area for the guests. Breakfast was served in the dining room and was phenomenal! I highly recommend this B & B for your next Niagara visit.
- Patricia (10/5): - Beautiful property!!! A lot of extras! Very clean!
- James (10/5): Fantastic stay! - Deanna and Alec were very friendly and knowledgeable of the region. Gourmet breakfasts were amazing. Convenient to all the Niagara on the Lake activities.
- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pamela (10/5): It was perfect and the breakfast was delicious. - It’s a beautiful property and the room was very comfortable. The bathroom was exceptional with both a shower and a jacuzzi tub. Nothing
- Derek (10/5): Would definitely stay again - great place, great owners, very relaxing stay. - It is a beautiful spot, an easy walk from town, and a gorgeous house.
- Eleanor (10/5): - Very unique property, decoration of the suites second to none. Hosts exceptional. Breakfast spectacular. Amenities covered all the bases and then some. Would definitely recommend.
- Judith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elliot (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent breakfast. Hosts could not have been more accomodating and friendly
- Sandra (10/5): - Deana and Alec's Explorer House was impeccable in every way....detail to all amenities, cleanliness, decor, comfort, privacy, etc. They thought of everything their guests could want and provided it! The rooms and grounds are lovely! The breakfast was wonderful....especially the homemade maple/walnut scones! We would highly recommend their lovely B&B!
- Ian (10/5): - Fantastic little gem in NOTL Very quiet street a short walk to all the shops, restaurants, theatre. Lovely owners who truly put an effort into ensuring you are comfortable. Breakfast was smashing. A very nice quest area outside to relax in also.
- Debbie (10/5): Wonderful stay and am planning to come back to the area and this B&B soon. - Beautifully appointed home and backyard. Gracious and informative hosts. Outstanding breakfasts in the morning. Small detail about not being able to adjust the upstairs rooms to a slightly lower temperature during summer nights.
- Krystal (8/5): Very good -
- Russ (10/5): - This place is definitely top shelf! If I was ever going to go into the bed and breakfast industry Explorer House would be the standard I would shoot for. Our host was very responsive and greeted us at the door with a smile. The building and the grounds are impeccable and you can see they've done a huge amount of work to make this place so beautiful. Explorer House is just a hop skip and a jump from downtown and close enough you could almost walk to the Shaw festival if you chose to. The room was beautifully decorated ( we were in the Serengeti room) and everything again was super clean well appointed I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a high quality bed and breakfast experience. The breakfast was wonderful we really enjoyed it it was tasty and came with four different courses.
- Kelly L (10/5): - Excellent accommodations for a romantic getaway. The outdoor patio setting with jacuzzi; as well as indoor amenities with private jacuzzi were wonderful. I totally would recommend this B&B!!
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- JAY (10/5): - Our stay at Explorer House was wonderful. The innkeepers, Deanna and Alec Bishop were fantastic. Each morning we were treated to a fabulous 3 course breakfast consisting of home made fresh baked breads such as muffins or scones, a fruit dish using locally grown fruits along with granola and you hurt and a unique dish, such as eggs Benedict with avocado… scrumptious. There was also a creative table setting each morning with dishware and eating accoutrements from all over the world. Deanna was a veritable encyclopedia of what to do where to go and how to get there. Our room was lovely and very comfortable, with indoor and outdoor common areas to relax have a drink, read or simply enjoy the lovely environment. If you’re traveling to the lovely town of Niagara on the Lake we would highly recommend the Explorer House
- JAY (10/5): - We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Explorer House. The innkeepers, Deanna and Alec Bishop were fantastic. Each morning we had a 3 course fabulous breakfast, typically including home baked muffins or scones, a fruit bowl with locally grown fruits of strawberries, blueberries, etc., and an egg dish each excellent. The dish and utensil setup each morning was a unique and clever mix of items from around the world. Deanna was a veritable encyclopedia of what to do, where to go and how best to plan each day. The room was lovely, spacious and fully equipped. There were several common areas both inside and out to relax and enjoy our time. We would strongly recommend Explorer House to anyone planning a visit to Niagara on the Lake!!
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Good breakfast; interesting artifacts and photographs from owner's travels. Comfortable rooms.
- Darryl (10/5): Exceptional -

- Dan (10/5): - Genuinely spectacular. Beautiful grounds, friendly proprietors, and the rooms themselves felt luxurious
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - How thoughtful and well put together everything was. Facilities sparkling clean, close distance to attractions, breakfasts amazing. Homemade jams.

- Dan (10/5): Explorer House is Great!! - We were looking for a little get-away and Explorer House provided us with a clean and safe jumping off place. Starting the day with terrific brunches, created and served by our hosts, Deanna and Alec, we were nourished until dinner. Deanna answered all our questions on recommended places to shop and relax and all proved out to be excellent. Yes, we highly recommend Explorer House to anyone looking for a great place to stay.
- Stacy (10/5): Beautiful B&B - Everything was impeccable. Breakfast was delicious. The rooms and common spaces were well appointed.

The B&B was within a 15/20 min walk to Queen street and the walk was lovely! Very much enjoyed our overnight stay at Explorer House! Wish the fireplace in our room was in working order, but it's the end of summer, so understood why it wasn't.

- William and Sheila (10/5): - Great little B B... excellent breakfast, great location for walking, running, nice little town. very quiet. We'll come back for sure.
- Lori (10/5): - The property is absolutely gorgeous and tranquil. The owners are exceptional hosts. This is our 2nd time staying here. We would definitely recommend. Oh, and the breakfast!!!! The best, by far, of any bed & breakfast that we’ve stayed at! Scrumptious!!
- Sebastien (10/5): - We came as a couple to NOTL for a wine tour and stayed at the Explorer House, mid July. This place is amazing, I'd definitely stay here again. Everything is extremely clean and well kept. You can tell the hosts are meticulous and care about their property. They are well organized and made us feel at home. Nice big bathroom attached to our room. Comfortable king size bed. There is a common area with everything you may need for the stay, fridge, dishes, glasses, coffee, cutlery, etc... The backyard has a large space available to us, with a comfortable sitting area and a hot tub. The landscaping is gorgeous. On top of all of that, the breakfast part of this B&B is amazing. The eggs benedict are the best I ever had. The explorer theme is all across the house, with professional photos taken by the host of all sorts of sceneries from other countries. Amazing place!
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - It feels like home but also feels like we were far away!! Love the backyard Hot tub! I was going to suggest that the TV in our room should be mounted on the wall. It wasn’t comfortable to watch the way it was set up currently.
- Jocelyne (10/5): Exceptional -
- ronald (10/5): - Wonderful place to spend a few days while exploring Niagara on the Lake. Lovely home and relaxing yard

They were attentive to my needs, provided helpful recommendations for local activities, and were always available to answer any questions I had. Their warm hospitality added a personal touch to my stay, making me feel right at home.
The rooms at the Explorer House were nothing short of luxurious and comfortable. The attention to detail in the decor and furnishings created a cozy and elegant ambiance. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. I appreciated the little touches like the quality linens and plush towels, which added to the overall comfort of my stay.
- Stuart (10/5): - Explorer House provides a TOP NOTCH experience from before arrival till the moment you leave. Excellent communication and concern for dietary needs. Fabulous breakfasts. Friendly, knowledgable and helpful hosts. The property inside and outside is immaculate - beautiful grounds open to guests, comfortable common area, very comfortable, quiet en suite rooms. This place cannot be recommended more highly. We look forward to the opportunity for a return visit.
- Chris (10/5): - Highly recommend. Amazing breakfasts and amenities. The hosts are friendly and knowledgeable.
- John (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Deanna and Alec’s beautiful and cozy home. They were such great hosts. The breakfast - everything -0-
- Tiffany (10/5): I would recommend the Explorer House and I plan to visit again. - This was my first time staying at a bed & breakfast. The Explorer House exceeded my expectations. The hosts were helpful and easy to reach if needed. The backyard was an Oasis. The room we stayed in came with all amenities; such as a blow dryer, which was helpful because I forgot mine. The room was clean, and the bed was perfect for two people. My favorite part were the decorations and pictures from her travels. It added a uniqueness to the room and house. This house is close to many wineries, restaurants, and a nice trail. You could even rent bikes if you wanted to explore the town. What I also enjoyed about staying at a Bed & Breakfast was eating breakfast together with the other guests. Niagara falls is a 25 minute drive and the outlet mall was 10 minutes away. :)
- Charles (10/5): This is an excellent B&B! - Our stay was exceptional! Deanna and Alec are so welcoming and knowledgeable of the area. The accommodations are excellent, beautiful, and comfortable. We enjoyed the fire table every night. We will return here and highly recommend this B&B. Everything was perfect!
- Adrian (10/5): - Had a lovely stay at Explorer House!
- Stephanie (10/5): - Wonderful stay! Absolutely beautiful decor, very clean, excellent hosts. Highly recommend
- Cesar (10/5): Super attentive hosts, comfortable and well decorated installations. Magic moments! I super recommen - One of the best part of my staying was the breakfast. Magic!
- Elaine (8/5): Lovely property, quiet location - Lovely property with extra touches (snacks, bottled water, makeup pads, etc). Beautiful decor (nature/wildlife photography), friendly owners, large bathroom with spa tub. Hot tub in backyard operating in winter despite icy conditions (side path was slippery). Hosts were very accommodating and breakfast was good. Outdated technology with no streaming services (Bell satellite, DVD/BluRay). TV in bad location at side of bed, making viewing difficult. Would be better wallounted or on a movable table. Spa pillow would have been useful in tub.
- Stewart (8/5): Very good - recommended
- john (10/5): - Really a great place to stay the night or a few days. The room was great and the breakfast world class.
- Vincent (9/5): Superb -
- Russell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kasey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful home and garden area. Fantastic breakfasts and wonderful hosts!! Will definitely be back!
- Campbell (9/5): Superb - Everything was exceptional, as good as any bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at. Clearly a great deal of thought went into the design and operation of this B and B. Perhaps it is that everything has become more expensive over the last couple of years but we did think the rates were beyond what even first class accommodations would charge.
The only minor criticism about the BnB itself is the size of the shower. Compact at best.
- Joanne (10/5): - We got our privacy yet is anything was needed the host/hostess was right there to meet our needs.
- Joan (9/5): Superb - The maple walnut scones and homemade jams were amazing as well as the the eggs Benedict!
- Donna (10/5): One of the BEST TOP 5 B&B we have ever stayed at. Not just in NOTL, but throughout the world. - Exceptional on every level!!!
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent great variety
- Dimaf1990 (10/5): Really liked the place. Great location, comfortable bed, stable wifi, great breakfast. Loved it! - Really liked the place. Great location, comfortable bed, stable wifi, great breakfast, adorable garden with lots of lush trees and bushes. And amazing hosts! Really enjoyed it and would recommend the place to everyone visiting the place No complaints. Liked everything! There are however so many things in the room and I got a sunburn and only when I was checking out discovered that there a lotion in the drawer. It is however my fault as I didn't search the bathroom properly and didn't ask the host.
- Mary (10/5): - Beautiful property, fantastic room, wonderful hosts.
- Shaun (10/5): Explorer experience - . Extra large bedroom and bathroom , decent sized private balcony.
Also had the use of shared living room and shared coffee machine with fridge and free snacks, free cold drinks.
We also used the shared balcony upstairs overlooking the car park.
This property also has separate garden area with hot tub ,seating area and fire pit. Solely for guests to use .
Homemade jam and marmalade at breakfast 😋 👌
Overall, Explorer House was a superb find.
My wife also bought a cook book written by the host Deanna.
Will certainly be back next time we are in Canada. Having to leave 😕
- Tony (9/5): Comfortable, relaxing and a place I'd stay again - Great choice and good variety on a daily basis Perhaps have natural yoghurt as a breakfast option

- Jonathan (6/5): - This property a house in a residential area which is home to a retired couple who the run the business side themselves. The property is tastefully decorated based on the owners' world travels and the artwork was impressive. The condition of the facilities was good. The room we reserved included a jacuzzi bathtub and door opening to a back deck. The location is walking distance from old town Niagara Falls. The room was clean and the Wifi was robust. A food basket is delivered to your door at 9am. Check-out is at 10:30am.
This is not a hotel / motel and lacks more practical amenities for similarly priced lodging. You have to muscle any heavy luggage up 2 flights of stairs as there is no elevator. The shared outdoor spa is not large enough for more than 2 adults. You may not bring guests without approval of the owners. Food must be ordered the day before or you don't eat (even though you paid for it). Privacy is a concern because, from the hallway, we could hear another couple... well... we could hear them... and they were not loud.
The ugly part of our stay is how the owners treated my girlfriend. I didn't bother with the food order as we changed our departure time. She asked about some breakfast on our departure and owner's response was very rude... "we didn't get our order in". They could have easily accommodated us, but instead made it a negative experience. We scrambled to check out as soon as possible and, ate at Tim Hortons and decided never to return.
- Kimberly B (10/5): Beautiful! - This place is amazing from check in to check out and floor to ceiling. They thought of every detail. Last time we stayed pre COVID we joined other guests in the dining room for a delicious homemade breakfast. This time we got the same homemade breakfast to enjoy in a private space done beautifully in a picnic basket. This will be the only place we ever stay when we visit NOTL.
- Patricia (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at Explorer House. The hosts were helpful and accommodating. There was significant attention to detail which made for a very luxurious and easy stay. The room was lovely and the breakfast to-die-for!
