Guest Reviews
- Angeline (10/5): A very quaint and comfy stay. The food in the restaurant was exceptionaly good and the bar and pool tables were fun. - They very quickly switched my room to one that did not require the use of steps. Very good food and the room was comfortable Found the bed a bit too firm for my liking but that is not uncommon.
- Paul Beier (1/5): -
- Joshua (1/5): -
- Yusuke (7/5): -
- Celeste (10/5): -
- Phyllis (7/5): Everything was wonderful except for the sleeping quarters. - Loved the staff, they were very helpful, kind and patient! Loved that everything you need was right there. The beds were very uncomfortable really need to spend money on room upgrades.
- Ramkumar (10/5): - Good location, by the stream, friendly staff, good food to buy, There could be more lamps in the room
- mike (10/5): - Very nice to work with
- Cecilia (1/5): I want my money back! - No staff available. No handicap room. Inn was misrepresented in every way possible.
- Helen (8/5): - The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The room was spacious & clean. There is a restaurant on site for breakfast through to dinner. The food was good, plenty of choice & service was great.Great location for exploring the many trails in the forest. Reviews for the hotel have been mixed. We found that pleasantly surprising on arrival as there was no sign of difficulty. We had a good few days here.
- Linda (10/5): - It was easy to find my room.
- Suvarna (6/5): - Beautiful location and good to have onsite dining. Perfect for a hiking weekend. Friendly hosts.
Terrible bed. Very very uncomfortable. Dated room.
- Juan (10/5): -
- Daytime visitors (6/5): - The view from the room was beautiful. The staff was kind. The room was clean. The outdoor decks were beautiful to sit at. The drinks and bar selection was good. The lighting in the room is so bright each bulb was like having a spotlight in your head. Had to he 200 watts. The room was noisy could hear neighbors tv and the bat noise. The WiFi was spotty. No service to bring drinks or food onto the decks.
- Tami (8/5): Nice little place - Had a reasonable price breakfast, fast and good. Bed was a little squeaky, location is the key here, opened the windows to hear the stream
- Sue-Wei (8/5): - The location is convenient and the staff was friendly. The room was clean and bathroom was tidy. A nice place after a whole-day filled with outdoor activities.
The only thing is the ac machine was kind of noisy.
- Omar (6/5): - We spend two back to back weekends at this lodge. Both stays, the gentleman who checks you in was pleasant and professional. The lady bar tender / waitress who works in the evening as well as the lady that works breakfast hours were both unprofessional and rude. You almost have to feel bad for them because they are over the top angry for no apparent reason and this happened both weekends in a row. I wasn't going to say anything negative because my family enjoyed our stay regardless but this happened two weekends in a row. Otherwise, great location, really spacious rooms, and a great place to stay.
- Omar (10/5): - Stayed here for one night because we are dropping off our son to summer camp nearby. Very close to beautiful lake. Nice and unique place.
- Mona (10/5): - Really nice staff and beautiful view plus close to pinecrest
- Lynn (2/5): Broken bed meant no sleep.☹️ - Location. Friendly staff. Room 4: The bed was BROKEN and not possible to sleep. The room was extremely hot because the window had no screen so it could not be open. The air conditioner was not adjustable and very loud. How about a refund?
- Augie (8/5): - Being an older facility, you can hear some noises from other guests as the walls are not concrete and it is an old property. Also, the beds are old and hard and could use some new ones to help with a good nights rest. Otherwise, a very good experience and we loved the staff.
- Melanie (6/5): - The sheets hadn't been changed in one of the beds and the beds were old and squeeky.
- Marilyn (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rebecca (8/5): - This is a clean, easy, super convenient location to Camp Blue Lair that is totally fine for what it is. Staff is really nice. Restaurant bar is cool. Price a bit higher but much better than staying in less convenient Twain Harte. In ski season this must be a convenient charmer. I recommend!
- Vanessa (8/5): - Staff was friendly and we loved that the kids could play right outside in the snow, as well as having a nice restaurant onsite. On our second night, we woke up to a mouse in our room and it stayed for the night two nights. We were on high alert at all times and had to keep the light on at all times to keep the kids calm. That was the only unfortunate part that I was not prepared for.
- Mathew (8/5): Would stay there again for *short* trips to Dodge Ridge. - Rooms are definitely not fancy, but you pay for the location (near Dodge Ridge ski resort). Burgers are great, as was the corned beef hash. Service is a bit slow, true to other reviews. But it's a small operation, and patience and friendliness begets the same from the staff.
- Wendy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (8/5): OK stay, but unlikely to return - Easy access just off CA-108 highway, just a few minutes away from Dodge Ridge ski resort. Free parking right outside the entrance. Inside the front entrance, the check-in area is not well marked. Turn left, go through the restaurant and a small registration window is found just past the bar.
After check-in, the staff member led us out through the bar/restaurant downstairs through the key-access area to our spacious room. No fridge or microwave, and beds had older, somewhat noisy mattress springs. Should have brought my own pillow from home. Small TV was equipped with direct tv and many non-premium in addition to pay-per-view channels.
The main bedroom window overlooked a nice backyard. Unfortunately, a nearby porchlight was illuminated all night long, and it was not possible to block the light with the horizontal wood slat blinds. That and the in-wall heater/AC unit, which worked well to maintain a comfortable temperature, but which noisily cycled all night, made getting refreshing sleep somewhat more difficult.
Bathroom was average size and clean. Shower enclosure had been updated a few years ago and hot water was quickly available. The side-by-side body wash and shampoo dispensers, however, appeared to have been filled with the same ingredient.
The restaurant had tasty food, though from a restricted menu. Upon check-out Monday AM, there were no staff present. We saw a sign posted outside reading "closed Mon-Thurs" and the bar/check-in area was locked.
- Mukul (6/5): - This basic hotel doesn’t offer much for an enjoyable stay. Nothing special about the accommodations or amenities. However, the staff was helpful and did their best with what was available. Suitable only if you need a simple place to sleep without expecting too much.
- Chiaramonte (8/5): Overall, our stay was great. Will definitely be back! - First off, the staff was awesome! It is a "one woman show" (restaurant and registration done by one person) so you have to be a bit patient as they do it all. But even at the busiest moments, they are friendly and approachable.
The location is right off the freeway and hard to miss, which was great since it was our first time going to this location. The rooms were a lot more spacious than the pictures showed. It seemed like a good central location for both Dodge Ridge and Leland Snopark, so that was great.
The restaurant was great- food was awesome. If you're a French toast person- GET THE FRENCH TOAST. Kids loved the pizza too! The heater was a bit loud at night so sleep was a little tough if you're a light sleeper. The DirecTV was inconsistent- but it was also winter, so there might have been snow blocking the connection.
- jana (8/5): - The property was nice and nicely decorated. The room was simple but super clean. The food was good, even if they couldn't guarantee any allergy restrictions.
Family-friendly with a soccer table and pool table for a small fee. It is super close to Dodge Ridge Ski Resort.
- John (10/5): - Perfect place to crash when on the slopes. Good food and beers
- Avinash (7/5): Good option to stay near dodge ridge - Restaurant food is good , clean , near to ski resort Costlier compared to facilities
- Jose (10/5): - Nice place in a central location for kids tubing where there is snow. Friendly staff and the good and service are good. Feels like you're staying at a friend's cabin not quite like a hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Services were amazing, it felt cozyvand evrryeone was friendly and kind. Room was okay, not fancy but good enough. Room was very cold. Wish there was a heater or intructions on how to get a heater or turn on the heater for the room.
- Bruce (8/5): Dodge ridge ski trip - It was a beautiful location right on the river. We had amazing view of the river from our room. Was a little noisey at night due to resturant above the rooms. The price was also pretty expensive and they do not do canclelations with in 14 days which is weird because if you booked 4 days ago you cant cancle and have to pay full price if you can not make it. That needs to be fixed. Other than that beaitiful location and building.
- Mehmet (4/5): Disappointing -
- Lenuza (6/5): - It was a roof to sleep under that is all. Close to Dodge Ridge Resort.
The noisiest heater we have seen in our entire life. We had to choose between sleeping Vs being cold. I would recommend the owners to invest into a decent centralized HVAC system rather having those horrible individual heaters running the room.
Turns out some rooms have an "attick ceiling" which we were lucky to get, and my husband and I kept bumping our heads against it when reaching for nightstand.
Overall cleanliness was fine, but there was an incident with bedding, as once we opened the top sheet we found a wrinkled sheet with hair strings and an eylash. Of course I asked for linen to be changed and a nice lady was very apologetic and provided me with clean linen, apologizing and explaining that there must have been a mix up with a new cleaner that is still in training. Upon opening a night stand the next day... I found things too. So I hope it was a 1 time mix up and that future guests will not suffer. Life happens.
Parking was easy, bar and restaurant available and open late into the night. Food is not good at all. Deserts are decent. Staff are super friendly.
Very cute decore of the walls at the hotel.
- Patricia (4/5): - The beds squeezed and the mattresses were soft and stained. Please add mattress pads. Recommend mini refrigerators be available. Service was poor. Don’t recommend this place.
Change the body soap to shampoo in the shower/tub.
- Claudia (2/5): Terrible - The experience was truly terrible.
The cook checked us in and scanned my ID into their system. When asked he said the scanned ID would remain in their system permanently. We are not even sure that permanent storage is legal given the privacy concerns it raises.
Also the bathroom was not clean. Behind the toilet and next to the sink was dirt and grime. Additionally, the toilet itself was loose so while using it one felt it moving forward which raised a concern of falling off.
The carpet in the associated restaurant was so dirty that it seemed clear it had not been vacuumed for weeks.
This all begs the question if facilities allowed to advertise on the hotels.com platform are reviewed and monitored at all.
- Cyriac (4/5): Nothing to write home about - Low quality old fashioned Inn with widely varying service.
- Anabel (1/5): The worts place to stay. - Breakfast is great and staff are very helpful. The room is very small. No chair to sit. The bedding, pillowcase, and blankets smell like somebody already used them. The wall heater is broken. Molds are presents near bathroom. Bathroom has no heater, so the toilet seat is ice cold.
- Nasim (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Strawberry Inn, easy access to ski resort and nice walking paths with the nearby river.
Very nice staffs in the cozy hotel restaurant, special thanks to Mika and Georgia.
- Ali (10/5): It was a cozy, rustic place in the heart of the mountain region. - An amazing and magical place in the foothills of Sierras. If you look for an old-style / rustic place with some character don’t look further. No your luxury brand hotel amenities, but it is in the heart of the region and has a good restaurant/ bar for reasonable priced food options. I didn’t like the beds, but it is forgiven. :)
- James A (8/5): - There were no restaurants open in the area so the owner fixed us a meal. She made us feel like family.
- Kristen (1/5): Bad - The river view was far away and through a lot of trees. The room was not fully cleaned when we arrived , someone else’s coffee was still in the pot, there was toilet cleaner by the nightstand next to the bed, there was bright pink soap all over the bathtub, the bed springs popped every time I moved and there was loud music playing late into the night. In the morning I brewed some coffee only to find out there were no cups in the room and it was too early to ask someone for some cups. We paid $240.00 for the night and it was not worth it. I highly do not recommend.
- Jessica (1/5): The lady at check in set the bar extremely low for the Strawberry Inn. - Good location The woman who checked us in was extremely rude and unprofessional. She told me that she canceled our reservation through booking bc my card declined and she “tried to call me multiple times.” I never had a missed call or voicemail from her and my reservation still showed up as confirmed with booking, not to mention my card would have never declined. She berated me in front of guest and told me I was “lucky” that someone else canceled their room and asked if I had “ a card that would work?” Then she proceeded to double charge my account and didn’t even apologize!!!! My family and I go up to the Pinecrest area every year and I will be sure to never give the Strawberry Inn my business again. Great location, terrible customer service.
- Joseph (7/5): Good -
- Kim (8/5): Very good -
- Emelie (6/5): - The service very nice but the AC in my room very noisy and the bed so uncomfortable keep me wake all night
- Jeremy (8/5): - Great place to stay especially if you plan on enjoying Pinecrest Lake area. This is the second time we stayed here and everything was great. Small hotel with very few amenities but that’s not what you come here for. We will be back again.
- Laura (4/5): Won’t stay there again - Very helpful staff. Location was nice. Room was not very clean and smelled old and musty. No cell service, but also no phone in the room to call for any help. No clock in the room. When I returned from my event at 11pm there was no one around at all to ask about ice and no ice machine to be found, no fridge in the room. Not what I’m used to for a &250 night.
- Randy (3/5): Poor - Incredibly unfriendly staff.
- Misty (5/5): Passable - Clean rooms
Beautiful location TV did not work
WiFi did not work
At 615 am they began cleaning the floors in the restaurant right above our room which sounded like furniture being moved for over an hour
Beds were extremely squeaky and not that comfortable
- William (5/5): Passable - Location Ease of parking
- Donald (8/5): Nice atmosphere - Setting in mountains by stream Stairs to get to rooms
- Francesca (8/5): - The room was large and clean, tucked away downstairs and stayed pretty quiet despite the bar upstairs having quite a few patrons. I agree with other posts that it was overpriced as was breakfast. Breakfast was ample and delicious but should have been included in room price for what we paid.
- Mary (7/5): Rustic, but clean and pleasant staff. - We were attending an event at Pinecrest so the location was great. We ate at the restaurant twice and enjoyed both meals, a pizza for lunch and breakfast burrito. It's a very rustic, no frills place, but clean. We never could get the TV to work, but had tablets so that was ok. The shower curtain was too long so it was bunched up which wasn't too pleasant while showering.
- Ronald (7/5): Good -
- Janice (4/5): - Got there and no one around to check in but found envelope with my name and a key. Got to room and it was occupied. Second room didn’t have hot water. Directed to different room and using key to enter found 2 people asleep and buck naked on the bed. Finally got a room unoccupied and with hot water. Hence the poor ratings. A real comedy of errors! But there’s no where else to stay in the area.
- Ramona (6/5): Short time frame for Breakfast - Breakfast time was limited.
- Laura (3/5): I was expecting more for the price. - close to where our friends were camping at Kennedy Meadows room not swept, counter tops not clean,
no working lights in the room except for bathroom,
no chef for the 2 days there.
Way overpriced!
- Lucas (7/5): Simple and clean yet felt like an afterthought in the restaurant which is part of the inn. - Convenient location. Close to Pinecrest Lake.
Rooms were clean very simple. The bed was not very comfortable. It was just OK. For a one night stay it was OK. We booked last minute. In the restaurant, more attention was given to known locals watching a game.
- Tonya (10/5): - Hidden gem
- John (6/5): It was the most expensive hotel room I - The hotel was clean. We ate at the restaurant two times. The food was marginal at best.
- Ryan (1/5): Shoulda just camped and took shower at the market - No hot water no fridge no microwave Everything was closed no food had to drive 30 minutes to eat looks good on web site but beware it's a ghost town and tt had pee in the toilet on arrival spa closed bar closed no pool table access main reason i booked for disabled vet to play pool.
- Alyssa (7/5): Good - Beautiful location right next to the river. The beds were not comfortable. Bartender was very rude.
- Batterson (2/5): Very poor - The views, the shower No wifi wasn't working told by employee, took 30 min to get key cards system / employee error, cable didn't work.
- Brian (5/5): Gorgeous setting, quaint vibe, comfy bed…value during off season not quite there. - Staff was very pleasant. Bed was comfortable. Surrounding area was gorgeous. No wifi, sign at the check in said “WiFi- Hotspot”, no password so it seemed straight forward enough. However, either that was missing information or it was improperly configured. When you connect it asked for an IT admin email and password instead of a typical hotspot where you just accept on the splash page and move onto the internet. I was on a business trip and planned had a lot of work to do in the quiet hotel room with no distractions. Without WiFi, I was stuck. Cell signal up the mountain was spotty at best, so I couldn’t use that connection either. Went downstairs to ask the ladies at the bar/check in counter about it, but it was locked up and empty despite being told it was staying open late…but I get it: small mountain resort town, off season, Sunday, pretty sure I was the only guest at the hotel.
- Robert (10/5): - Beautiful location and comfy rooms. Convenient for our day trip to Pinecrest.
- Jana (1/5): Very inflexible, uncommunicative, and unhelpful. -
- Jason (7/5): Good - Clean. Big room Bed was awful and uncomfortable. Mattresses need replacing.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not what it used to be - I wish I could give Strawberry Inn a better review because I've been coming here a very long time and love this place. It is a beautiful setting right by the river and super close to Dodge Ridge. It has a great vibe with quaint and generally comfortable hotel rooms, a great restaurant and bar that serves full breakfast with an excellent coffee bar, and a great dinner menu. We love having drinks and shooting pool after skiing before passing out after a long, wonderful day.
However, this visit was not the magical experience we are used to. The internet barely worked and never up in our rooms. The chef/owner was sick, so no dinner menu - only pizza. This was suitable for one night but definitely not two nights and there are VERY limited options in town. With no microwaves or options for prepping food ourselves, we were pretty much out of luck. The rooms seemed to have gone downhill with mold, lack of cleanliness in the bathroom, and an exceptionally loud heater that we ultimately turned off so we could sleep (but meant we froze at night). The nice lady working there was clearly overworked and had no help.
- annet (6/5): - Direct tv wasn’t working, no fridge, and the hairdryer wasn’t working. Very noisy beds. We had 2 queen beds both made noises. No comfortable chair to sit or a table to eat on. Too expensive for what we did or didn’t have.
- Stephanie (1/5): Never again! Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to stay. - Cute enough Inn. What you would expect if it were a $59/night stay. We paid more given the weekend we went. 1) restaurant listed as an amenity on website. They closed the restaurant 2 out of the 3 nights we were scheduled to stay with no advance warning. Traveling with a child I specifically chose this place for the restaurant convenience. One night there was zero visibility due to weather to drive anywhere and the restaurant was our only option but was closed (all day).
2) no lotion provided.
3) there isn’t a front desk so if you have issues I’m assuming you will need to call someone. The front desk is the bar/restaurant - which as previously mentioned was closed 2 out of our 3 nights!!! The cell service is terrible so I’m not confident you would even be able to successfully call.
- jamie (6/5): - Convenient location. Room was ok, but not great, definitely not very clean. Food at the restaurant was mediocre. Staff was friendly, but seemed overwhelmed.
- Jonathon (3/5): Poor -
- Holly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juan (5/5): Stay cautious - The staff was great, Unfortunately the person that handle the phone and the customer service is terrible, been charged for 2 nights, my booking was through booking.com for 1 night, they are saying we booked two nights, we are fighting for the overcharges, stay cautious with this place, they will try to charge your credit card for more that you allow,
- Prem (6/5): Nice stay near dodge ridge mountain resort - Liked the great location best dodge ridge and the amenities they have The room amenities were average, no Wi-Fi, bathroom equipments were shaky.
- Li (1/5): Bad -
- Han (2/5): - Very old properties. Smells in the room
- George (3/5): Location good but we won't stay there again. - The location is good. The restaurant and bar were not open.
The bed was terrible
- Mary (3/5): Nice location but beds are really uncomfortable and noisy metal base on beds. - Location No receptionist when we arrived. People were able to take our reserved room.
- Angela (4/5): Don’t stay here until fully remodeled. - The staff is very friendly. The river is nice. The hotel is extremely old. The room had a terrible mildew smell. The bed was uncomfortable. I had to hold my breath to walk through the lobby due to the overpowering stench of what I guess was a combo of smoke and mildew.
- Joseph (4/5): Terrible. - Location was good. TV reception sucked, so did the bed!
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ford (7/5): Beautiful setting, and friendly staff. - Good breakfast, though not included. Very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. The setting is beautiful and the place has potential. The owner was NOT helpful with an early checkin request. She was downright rude and made sure we were charged extra for an hour early check in. We were in a bind to attend a wedding at the same time as check in and really didn't want to do a late check in after wedding, as it didn't look like anyone would be around to give us a key. She could have at least checked with housekeeping, as they were done early anyway and there was no expense for them to check us in early. Just a weird experience and poor customer service by the Owner. Staff on the other hand were helpful and friendly.
- C (3/5): Poor - Location to activities in surrounding area. Easy to get to. Plenty of parking as business at this place is almost non existent. Very poor customer service. Room dusty and poorly outfitted. Beds noisy?
Lighting bad, broken lamp on night stand.
- Jon (5/5): Meh! Wish I had camped - Nice old hotel on the river with beautiful wood, nice bar and different level decks to enjoy dining. Staff was nice. Owner was sweet. The mattress was awful. old and hard. Didnt sleep. The food is terrible. No deck or balcony. Rooms were expensive and no amenities
- Lori (7/5): Good -
- Heffner (10/5): Perfect couples getaway - Not over crowded river access just overall awesome
- Catsulprizio (6/5): Decent room but over priced - The room was big and clean with plenty of towels. There was no desk or table to use. There also wasn't a fridge even though there was plenty of room.
- Madeline (6/5): A beautiful spot with great food, but needs some TLC. - The location is lovely, right on the river.
The food at the restaurant was excellent, despite service issues mentioned below.
The room was big, but only had Venetian blinds so not great for sleeping after sunrise. Our room was right underneath the bathroom for the restaurant/bar, and until 1am we were woken every time someone used the bathroom.
There was a used bandaid in the shower and the coffee pot hadn’t been emptied.
The customer service at the restaurant was terrible. The main lady who checked us in couldn’t take my dinner order as she “had to go”, but then stood there cashing out her till for 15 minutes while I waited with my daughter. Her replacement couldn’t use the system until she was done, so she went off to serve drinks! Another woman waited (completely ignored) with a question about true food she had collected. It would have taken 2 minutes for the waitress to take our order before cashing out, or written it down for the kitchen and we pay later when the till was ready, rather than us just standing there for 20mins.
- Bud (8/5): Very good - breakfast food was good
- Linda (4/5): Overpriced, wouldn't stay again - I had a river view and the view was amazing. Opened the window and I could hear the rushing waves and water. I don't know if I had neighbors, but I didn't hear anything. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to check in but it did. No credit card reader, had to input manually and by her own admission, she needed glasses and had a difficult time reading the card. Took about 5 tries to code my room key. Would have appreciated a comment indicating that your room key can also be used at the entrance of the inn where a key is also required. Haven't seen a tv that small in a very long time. Room was NOT worth the all in $280 price.
- Yikwon (8/5): recommend - Very clean, roomy, kind people, close to pinecrest bed was okay, pricey
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rees (10/5): Exceptional -
