Guest Reviews
- jamesdL9340ZJ (10/5): AARON at the hideaway pool is the BEST! - Aaron at the pool bar during the week - was absolutely wonderful! Including all of the bartenders and wait staff! Ana was also wonderful! The attentiveness, the dedication, and the personalized service was excellent. He made our week very memorable!
- Odyssey02921335156 (10/5): Ricardo is the best!!!! Ask for him! - Ricardo is an absolute JOY. He’s been so amazing and has gone above and beyond for us! We ran out of baby wipes and he went to the pharmacy to get us more! Made all our reservations and set us up with a cabana everyday! Highly recommend getting in contact with him if you come here !!!
- fishmj2024 (8/5): Good, but not great - Our first visit to a Royalton All-Inclusive Resort was a good experience overall. Cesar and Jose at the Hideaway pool truly made our trip, they were amazing! Every morning they helped us find chairs, even with people trying to reserve them when they weren’t supposed to. On our last day, they went above and beyond by upgrading us to a poolside Bali bed!
Manuel at Zen was also a standout. Hands down the best waiter we had all week.
The food throughout the week was good, though not exceptional. Booking dinner reservations was super easy using the app, no butler or Diamond club needed. We were able to secure reservations for the entire week with plenty of options.
Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The pool area had a fun party atmosphere starting around 2:00–3:00 PM each day, but outside of that, the resort felt very relaxing.
Overall, an enjoyable stay!
- sarahsM2304DW (10/5): Great time - Our daily breakfast with Eduardo and Juan was an amazing. They took care of us in every way and we liked him so much- We asked for them every day. Such a fun experience. Lived the resort and the food.
- abagaleanddawsons (8/5): Good experience - Overall a great trip. There were instances where the staff wasn’t always helpful, but that was few and far between. Room was great, though our jacuzzi was dirty.
We wish the beech was better, but we had actually booked here because of wanting all the pool access, which was best at the hideaway pool with great bartenders and service.
- Excursion08273260429 (10/5): Great - Good service great drinks. Fast and efficient
- T6869LYjackm (10/5): Good guy - Very great guy he’s the best guy at this resort.
- ericabC4037KR (10/5): Pool service - Royalton Rivera Cancun was a very fun clean environment! We had the best pool side devices from Hugo C. Our drinks were always full.
The entire staff was very welcoming and here to serve their guests.
The spa was nice and relaxing and a great value!
- Pathfinder597869 (10/5): Superb resort, 5 stars food and service - Awesome resort. Excellent food and everybody here are nice, happy to help and friendly. We got along pretty good with Rudis, the sommelier. Highly recommand this resort.
- 540josephined (10/5): Super fetch - Javier at agave is amazing. Giancarlo at the steakhouse also is.
Dorado was meh but everything else perfect.
- 271frasern (10/5): Amazing - Absolutely fabulous holiday, had 11 fabulous nights everyone from bellboys to all the other staff could not do enough enough to help us enjoy a amazing time at the royalton riviera hotel 100% whould recommend this hotel 😀 😊 😄 😉
- peytonb52 (4/5): Below Average - Don’t Recommend - The pros of the resort stop pretty early. We went for a wedding and the venue was great. Beautiful atmosphere and great food. That’s where the positives end. The spa had our bridal reservation incorrect, causing a delay in getting ready. The WiFi the entire trip was terrible. In and out service every time you lock your device. I reserved a king bed and was given two full size without any reason or reimbursement for their mistake. The hot water in the shower did not work. None of the wedding party was roomed near each other so any trip to someone’s room was a 5-10 minute walk. Would not go back.
- joseee706 (10/5): The Zen - Very fun so far. No complaints. Food is delicious and the beach is beautiful. Ritchie (Ricardo) at the Zen restaurant was absolutely wonderful! Really enjoyed our meal.
- kerrimU3135NN (10/5): Tepanyaki was amazing! - Richie at Tepanyaki was amazing! The food was delicious and the waiters were top notch! Recommend 100%
- katherinecG5061JY (10/5): Bar tenders and activities crew- EXCELLENT!!! - Amazing experience!! Beautiful resort and the people who work here are as beautiful! 🥰
- 684chanteller (10/5): Excellent service, warm and generous staff! - Beautiful resort and best drink ever with Jair! Thank you for a wonderful week.
- lynnlK8765VE (10/5): I loved my server Catalina made a great suggestion for a chocolate martini.!!!@!!!!!!!!@@!!!!!!!!!!@!!!!!!!!!!@@@@@@@@!! - My server was excellent! I would recommend her.
- jaylK1108OK (8/5): Good, I’d go again. - Arnatz(think i spelled her name wrong) B for the last name, she was a good concierge. I had a good time, food was good; just can be more options on 24hr food menu. The people that try to get you to sign up for the “time share”, are very rude once you tell them no. The skinny lady that wears heels with braces and the older big guy with messed up teeth, overly rude. But nice at first to try and reel you in.
- dancZ5887UQ (10/5): Rudis the best sommelier at Royalton. - Resort is ok but Rudis, the sommelier is the best!!! He made the vacation a great experience. Amazing service. Ask for Rudis.
- catrinab432 (10/5): Must stay, amazing staff! - Have nothing but amazing things to say about this resort and the people that work there! Upon arrival we were welcomed by all staff and continued to have such great service I don’t have words to mention everyone. Karla greeted us at checkin and helped with all our reservations; she was so attentive to details and predicted/took care of all our needs sending people from her team including Francisco to check on us during our stay.
Iris & Arianna with Hideaway and Diamond guest services made sure we had everything we needed and took cate of us decorating the room for my dad’s birthday and offering an upgraded package.
Shouting out some of our amazing servers include but not limited to Hugo & Geronimo at the hideaway pool, Rider we got lucky Enough to have twice both for dinner at agave and armadillo, and Moises at Dorado. They took such great care of us remembering our names, preferences, and making each drinking and dining experience special.
- emmanuelivesn (10/5): Great service - Excellent service from Olga .
- 990toddv (10/5): Fantastic service - This was our 11th time at this resort and we were there for 14 days.
Check-in
A special thank you to Vincente in who made sure we had a room we would like for the entire stay.
Dorado
We ate breakfast almost every day there and the food was consistently excellent. Maria took care of us for most of the days, ensuring that I had my cappuccino and smoothie before I even had to order it. Her service was exceptional. Itzel and all her staff do such a great job.
Other restaurants
We ate at all the restaurants and had good meals at all of them. We noticed that everything was served hot. We definitely noticed a step up in the quality of the meals since our last visits in May 2025 and Nov 2024.
Main Bar
We spent most of our nights at neighboring Royalton Riveria. Leyva took care of us on most nights, making sure we had a place to sit and a drink in our hands. We see him each time we visit and always appreciate his fine service.
Entertainment at Royalton Riveria
We have noticed a decline in the entertainment for the last few years. There used to be a show at 8 or 9 and then a band would play at the main bar until 11. It was usually Play Band (who we loved) and it made for a full evening. Everything seems to die at the end of the show now and please note Karokee is not a show.
Coffee Shop
I can't say enough about the awesome afternoon cappuccino the ladies and Kevin made me each day. Pastries and ice cream are always delicious there.
Beach
We spent each day at the Hideaway Beach and really appreciated the new cushioned chairs. For the first three days the Sargassum was all cleaned up, but there was nothing done after that. It was frustrating watching the Beach machines drive by each day with Sargassum from Splash next door. We come to this resort because we love the beach and were disappointed at the lack of effort on cleaning up the Sargassum. Sargassum is a reality in Mexico, it is how you manage it that distinguishes the resorts.
Room
I want to thank Eduardo who made sure our did a fantastic job keeping our room clean.
Loyalty
We continue to be shocked that there is no recognition of our regular visits. We asked one of the Hideaway reps about this and they said there is nothing in the system to track regular guests. They are so busy trying to sell Prime that they are missing a simple but key marketing opportunity.
Overall we had a fantastic time and hope to be back soon.
- 686springt (8/5): Nice place - Overall good experience. Hector made sure getting a spot at the pool was easy. Food was good. A couple reservation restaurants were not as good as the buffet though and too many times at different places they were out of many items on the menu.
- jessiejoselynd (10/5): Perfect Service - Egidio was the best part of our girls Birthday trip! He not only made us happy laugh and smile but he also displayed a wonderful spirit that made our hearts sing! Agave is PERFECT!!! Food Delicious 👍🏽
- Mobile62652468793 (2/5): Beware if you go here. If you are not sickened by the food, you will be nauseous by the cigarette smoke. - This is easily the worst all inclusive we have experienced. This resort advertises itself as “newly renovated,” but that claim appears to apply only to the lobby. The rooms themselves are clean but clearly outdated and do not reflect a recent renovation.
Our experience got off to a poor start upon arrival after waking at 3:00 a.m. for two flights, the first interaction we had was an aggressive attempt to sell us a vacation buy-in. This was frustrating, poorly timed, and set an unwelcome tone for the stay.
Dining throughout the resort was consistently disappointing. All restaurants require reservations, leaving us with the buffet on our first night. Unfortunately, the buffet was among the worst we have encountered. The food was bland, mushy, and overcooked, with no dietary labels of any kind. We had to ask for salt and pepper at each restaurant. Breakfast the following morning was even worse—overcooked, browned eggs that were tough and inedible, and hash brown triangles that had clearly been cooked more than once and were excessively greasy.
Our first reservation restaurant was Taj, which was especially disappointing as we enjoy Indian food. Both of us have seafood allergies, which we clearly communicated to the staff at the entrance and again at the table. Despite this, I was served a dish made with seafood stock. This is not a minor oversight but a serious food safety issue.
We splurged for a swim-up room in the adults-only section, expecting a quieter and more relaxing experience. Instead, a wedding group spent most days chain-smoking in the pool and rarely leaving, regardless of how much they drank. I complained three times, and another guest complained twice, yet no action was taken. As a result, we were unable to use the swim-up space we paid extra for. While I appreciated the staff bringing drinks through the landscaping on the one day the group was absent, it seemed like an unsafe and unnecessary workaround rather than a solution.
We also booked a snorkeling tour through the resort’s partner, Nexus, and they never showed up. We waited nearly 45 minutes after arranging our entire morning around the excursion. While we did receive a refund, we ultimately booked snorkeling ourselves through TripAdvisor at an eco-park and had a far better experience. Multiple people we spoke with later confirmed that those who booked independently had a significantly better outing than those who went through Nexus.
We hoped the resort’s two highly regarded restaurants would redeem the dining experience, but they did not. At Hunter, the steakhouse, our meat was dry and overcooked. The mashed potatoes were clearly boxed, and the boxed mac and cheese tasted as though it was made without butter, likely using a substitute oil. To make matters worse, our server was assigned a party of 12, then our table of two, followed by two tables of ten and another couple—all within about ten minutes. Management provided no support, aside from accepting money from another guest who appeared to be paying for expedited service due to tired children. The Italian restaurant was no better; I was served store-bought, shelf-stable gnocchi with plain canned tomato sauce. Nothing felt fresh or house-made—everything appeared to come from cans, jars, or boxes.
The frontline service staff consistently worked hard and were polite, but the repeated issues across dining, guest services, and excursions point to serious failures in management and training. Overall, this resort does not deliver the quality, safety, or experience promised by its marketing or price point, and we would not return.
- GAR0705 (2/5): Royalton rip off - We booked this holiday for a relaxing break in the Hideaway adult section only to arrive and find this area during the day is like a zoo. No sunbeds available, booming music drunk adults in pool and so on.
So we spoke to hotel staff and explained we wanted to be in a more quieter adjacent area, the Diamond Club, which although has a few children is a damn sight quieter and civilised that the zoo in hideaway.
We were told this could only be accomplished by upgrading to Diamon Club and this would incur an extra over cost of $1100. We were told we would have upgraded mini bar by Sebastian and all the benefits of the diamond club. We said that we would return in the morning to complete the paperwork so that we could consider our options as this seemed extremely expensive. However, we were told if we signed and paid that evening we could have all the benefits straight away. So we agreed. Having thought about it overnight and considering the benefits we did not feel this was value for money. We returned the following day to say this and were told the contract was binding and we could not cancel it and get a refund even though it felt like we had been coerced or at best encouraged to sign the previous evening and we had not used any of the benefits.
We have subsequently found that following similar complaints, others have been upgraded for no payment at all which increased our feeling of being ripped off.
Ironically now having access to the Diamond Club pool we now find we have to be there by 7.30am as all the sun beds have been reserved with towels, bags etc! In addition we also see guests with Hideaway bands using the area.
I would add that the staff and the service has been very good in general and the food has been good as well. However, we are now nearly halfway through our holiday which seems to have been wasted on needing to go back and complain on a regular basis to staff who although very friendly, have been unable to satisfy our requests.
If anyone in a senior management position would like to discuss this matter you know who we are
Also just to add regularly run out of drinks
- romed2026 (10/5): Royalton resort Cancun - Amazing service and beautiful place!!!!! Sosa is a waiter in marché and he is by far one of the best waiters ever. Highly recommend asking for him when you walk in to be seated in his area.
- charixsac (10/5): Great vacation! - Everything was amazing! Definitely will be visiting again!
- Reynolds894 (2/5): Conned beyond belief - Seriously dissapointed that we thought the hideaway was an adults area that we could relax in. Sadly not soo. Extremely boisterous and noisy. We asked to sit by diamond pool as although had children it was a lot quieter. To upgrade we paid £800.00 aprox $1100. Quite a lot. We were told by Sebstion it had all the benefits of the diamond club. I felt under pressure as I did not want to spend another day at the hideaway section. Next morning we came down to no sunbeds so you can imagine I felt distraught and asked to be refunded. Sadly they said no. So I had to endure getting up to put a towel down each morning at 6.30. Wow some holiday and a very big waste of £800 $1100 dollars. To rub salt in wounds we often found non diamond club members at the pool and one couple had even been upgraded free as long as they took their bad review off trip advisor down. I have had several negative encounters with staff being rude to me and what was meant to be a relaxing holiday has turned into a nightmare. Food is ok and some of the staff are truly lovely but buyer beware. Upgrade was absolute rip off. We know call it the Royalton ripoff hotel. Ps often run out of drinks.
- W4028SJanthonyh (10/5): Excellent Staff - Staff was great. Adult bar staff is awesome from Hugo to Geronimo to bar tenders. Total staff was professional and friendly.
- kathyaC5235UZ (8/5): The resort was clean, safe, inviting and definitely fun! Communicating in English was not a problem. - We had a fun vacation February 15-20, 2026. The accommodations were clean and extremely well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. The check-in and check-out procedures were simple. Bruno gave us a map and explained about the activities and excursions and answered all of our questions. He set up a meeting for us where we met Mau and Gabriel who gave a us a tour of the whole resort. Aaron took us and our luggage to the room and remembered us and greeted us in passing throughout the week. We especially enjoyed the poolside waiter, Angel. He kept the beverages flowing each day of our stay. All wait staff in the restaurants were friendly. Some that I remember were Roberto and Rueben. They all had a great sense of humor and everyone at the resort knew English well enough to communicate. We will definitely return some day.
- 194masont (10/5): Bottom bar customer service - Sergio and the downstairs bar across from the pool were absolutely fantastic the whole entire time. Anytime I needed anything I would go see them and they would immediately pick me up. I really appreciate the customer service coming from sergio
- holdenb471 (10/5): Service review - Sergio , Agustin , Juan , Alonzo great guys with great service.
- wendyvV3270VJ (10/5): 14 days of sun - Spent 14 days, staff were really wonderful, remembered our names, drinks and breakfast choices. Maria at Dorado is the best! The hostess Itzel greeted us every morning and made sure we were seated in Maria’s section.
Leyva at the main stage area was attentive and friendly as always.
Our room was cleaned every day, Eduardo even left a teddy bear balloon then created a towel dragon.
The food was always very hot and delicious. Lunch buffet was well stocked with lots of options.
We are beach people so the pool chair situation didn’t affect us.
My recommendation is for Royalton to acknowledge repeat customers and offer some recognition for customer loyalty. We have been 10+ times but they always basically brush it aside. Too much focus on Prime.
- A8452XMdans (10/5): One week at Royalton Riveria - The resort was very clean and comfortable. During our stay the staff was very helpful. A special shout out to our dedicated staff, Oscar and Nassar, for making our stay most excellent, looking after our every need. And another shout out to Rubi, from the Vibe team around the Diamond pool, making our stay that much more fun. We would definately come back.
- isabellecK9067QL (10/5): Fun time to start the Day - Gym avec Dany 🔥🔥🔥
Bootcamp love love love
- Karen (8/5): FUN! - Everything about the resort was truly wonderful the room was beautiful and comfortable, the pool areas were relaxing and well-maintained, and the overall ambiance was elegant and inviting. The entire property is absolutely stunning, and you can tell great care has gone into the design and atmosphere.
My personal conciergerie was wonderful he did a phenomenal job. My only major concern was a persistent sewage-like odor in several indoor areas, including the buffet, bar, and club, which detracted from the experience. Additionally, the Hideaway adults-only side could use a better DJ and more energetic music. The adults-only pool should have more of a lively, party vibe to match expectations.
Aside from those issues, I truly enjoyed my stay and hope these areas are improved for future guests.
- lovelifelivetotravel (10/5): Amazing service - Hugo was our waiter at the beach most of the week and gave us top notch service .
Thanks Hugo
- C3225IVlynnem (10/5): This resort is by far worth every penny you pay for it. - We are diamond club. Butler David has come up trumps every time. Has not disappointed once. Booked every dinner we wanted at the time we wanted. Touched base every day to see if we needed anything. If we did it was there within the hour.
Food was superb. Have not gone hungry or thirsty , my only delta was the zen. Bad service. Bad food. Waiter was miserable. Waited over 35 mins before he even came to the table. Took our drinks order and another 10 mins before we got them. Restaurant had 3 tables with two people at each.
This is our second time at this resort. Def. Will come back..
Had a swim out room opposite the dorado pool. Spotless. Comfortable and prime location. Have our own little swim out pool and still able to watch the comings and going’s of the rest of the guests. Quite entertaining. 😂😂😂🍺🍺🍺🍷🍷🍷
Check in night was tad annoying because the room we booked and paid for was still occupied. Even though I confirmed it the previous week. They gave us a “like” room for one night then moved us to our booked room the following day. No biggie. Worked out fine in the end.
Beach is great. NOT a Cuban beach but still a great beach.
We are here for two weeks and sadly it’s almost over.
HOWEVER- you have to leave so you can come back,,,,,,,,,,
- F574LNkarenm (10/5): Lovely week - We booked through our prime membership. new this year was reserved areas around the pool pools for prime members. That was excellent. We had great bar service from Manuel from the Pisces swim up bar underneath Dorado. Manuel knows his spirits and could make fancy fabulous drinks.
We had a fabulous butler, Nassar. He made sure we had reservations for dinners and Anything we needed. He was full of information as well. Nassar worked very hard and we appreciated everything he did for us.
We had great bar service from the diamond lounge Hideaway from Ricardo
We enjoyed our weeks stay
- MrBarista (10/5): A must go resort. - Everything was spectacular, this is my 2nd visit and it does not disappoint. Moises at El Dorado, was attentive and made sure we had a wonderful night. I highly recommend the location.
- melissakI6603CP (10/5): Pool service, amazing! - We had an amazing time! Our pool
waiter Hugo C was super attentive and always kept the drinks coming! Watching him look after everyone in our section was amazing to see! I wish all waiters provided his same level of expertise and service. Not to mention our pool concierge Hector, he made sure everyone had chairs and was very easy to talk to. Both gentleman made us feel at home here! Would defintley come back just for their amazing service!
- C493LUangelac (10/5): Above and beyond - 9 of us were at this resort for 10 days.
I can't speak for all 9 people but what I will tell you is that , this resort was amazing .
Check in was smooth and everyone was very friendly. We got to our room which was clean and bright and beautiful just like the picture. We had a Jr suite with a Jacuzzi on the balcony and in the room. We did not use either of them lol 🤣. The shower was absolutely amazing (I asked my husband if we can have one at home ) lol. All the staff was overly helpful and amazing in every way.
Reservations
So yes the whole making reservations was a little difficult, but don't stress over it too much. Go to the Expedia desk if you booked through them. They will help you get everything booked , otherwise go to guest services they are very helpful as well. Be patient!!!
All the restaurants are amazing!
Breakfast and Lunch at the Dorado was amazing . Do go into dinner thinking you will be in and out , it does take a min for a 3 course dinner so take your time and enjoy .
When in doubt there is always the buffet which is good at any time for the day.
Room service
Very slow 😉 . We ordered late night and it took 2 hours one night and I pre ordered for 11 pm and not sure if it was ever made I fell asleep after 2 hours of waiting. I guess I didn't need a late night snack lol
Coffee shop
Omg !!! Just what I needed ! Yes the line is long but it moves fast and it is soooo worth it.
We didn't spend anything on the beach ⛱️ but a friend did and she highly enjoyed it. Bring bug spray. We got a few bites but nothing crazy. It is what it is !
There is not a bad seat anywhere. The whole place has very comfortable areas to sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful view .
Okay on to the pool area
The hideaway pool area was Amazing !!!! NO KID ZONE!!!
Seriously my favorite time of day was when we were at the pool. The staff ( Hector, Ana, Aaron, Jose ) went above and beyond to make us feel special and comfortable. We had a cabana and chairs set up everyday for us . Just remember respect and a little extra $ tip goes a long way. FYI they didn't expect it but with the service and hospitality it was much deserved. We never waited, wanted or needed !!!!!! Also all the activities and fun entertainment they had was amazing 😍
Please tip the staff. It is what they live off of .... Just because it is all inclusive doesn't mean you don't have to tip. It's a respect thing.
There were only a few things that are cons
The ride out of the resort if you want to shop is $75 to get out of the resort and make sure you Uber back it was only $10
Entertainment was at the main pool ( theater) which means KIDS! It was not too bad but the kid's activities at 7pm was not something I wanted to hear or watch after dinner. The all age entertainment was mostly at 8 and 9pm. The hideaway pool area had music but if you wanted to fall asleep then that was the place. The hideaway pool area the adult only area should have something more upbeat .
The resort is so big it is easy to get turned around lol .
I would recommend this resort to everyone.... I would for sure go back.
If you are a snack person like me lol make sure to pack lots of snacks.
Happy vacation
- 123HonestReview (10/5): excellent - Jerarardo was amazing and so was Roberto and Pedro how provided excellent service.
- 402cp (4/5): Nice Resort but Management.... - The reason for my rating is that I had an issue with my room type/category. It took almost two days for our butler to resolve it, and we were only going to be there four days. Also, after two months, I have been trying to get them to post my Marriott Bonvoy Loyalty points.
Quick Overview - too much to type here: I may have a part two.
I booked a luxury junior suite ocean view room diamond club with two queen beds on Royalton Resorts website. We got a king room with a pull-out sofa and a view of palm trees, definitely not an ocean view. Now, the room was nice and well-appointed just not what I paid for.
We were told they would have another room the next day. The next day we were told it will be the next day. What?? I spoke with Management and I felt like they were being dismissive and not much help. With the persistence of our butler, we got our room changed. He was 10/10!
I have sent multiple emails requesting my folio which was supposed to be emailed to me after checkout. I also asked about my Marriott Bonvoy points. So far, I have not received either.
I sent another email so waiting to see if I hear anything back from the resort.
Overall, the resort is nice, clean, had decent food and friendly staff. The pools were nice but chilly. The beach was also nice (chilly as well) and had a beach bar. It was not overly crowded during the time we were there.
Management needs additional training in customer service and resolving issues in a timely manner.
FYI - they have Royalton Splash next to them which is a about a 5-8 minute walk down the beach but if you want to go to the Lazy River, it is about $30USD each way.
- 494ezekiela (10/5): Weekend Getaway - Lots of great food options and Hector the beach butler went out of his way to make sure our experience was memorable.
- Getaway51682533411 (10/5): Robert🩷🩷🩷 - Robert was amazing!! 😻 the best person ever
- jannatc2026 (10/5): best experience ever with robert - robert was the best manager in all of the restaurants! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
- 256ashkap (10/5): Highly recommended!!! 🍹 🤩 🏖️ - Catalina, Carlos, Patricia, Paul, Jarin and Lucero were absolutely. They brought positivity, energy and a welcoming environment to me and my family. Excellent customer service and very engaging. Highly recommend travelling to Royalton.
- kelk90 (10/5): Dinner - Visited the Agave restaurant lovely food and amazing setting. Lizbeth was our waitress and made our experience so much nicer. What a credit to your hotel
- Pioneer15511637126 (10/5): Great stay! - Isaias was our waiter for breakfast a few mornings and he was amazing! Remembered us and brought us fruit every morning! All of the staff at the resort were very friendly and very accommodating!
- K4697TVmelissam (10/5): My gorgeous Hector and Hugo. C - My gorgeous Hector. Where to start? He is always going above and beyond, consistently going all-in for any of your needs. From simply finding you a towel with a friendly daily conversation, to finding and moving literal chairs around for your convenience, Hector is ready and willing to assist you with a smile. Hector has the sweetest, most kind demeanour with an energy that radiates positivity and genuine hospitality. He will take care of you constantly, ensuring you are always satisfied and comfortable. If I could summarize my experience with Hector, I would confidently say that he is an incredibly hard worker, always ready to help you out with a gorgeous smile and his authentic warm personality. Thank you for everything!
Hugo. C served us on our first day at the beach and immediately made us feel at home away from home. From the first day, we shared friendly conversation with him after he quickly got us some drinks. It was a treat to learn small details about his life here in Mexico, making our stay even more enjoyable. Every following day he would find us in passing and ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. Hugo was incredibly friendly making you wish you could stay at the Royalton forever.
- jamzgang (10/5): the best French restaurant at Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun - excellent restaurant...ocean point
royalton hideaway Riviera- Cancun
enjoy 5 * restaurant, service, food, atmosphere .ask for Hector, the best.
- laurenmM1198PD (10/5): Wonderful Experience - Guillermo was amazing. My concierge booked us but it did not go through, but Guillermo went above and beyond to assist us on a busy night. In addition, the food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. 10/10 ✅
- vivianfB3552DD (10/5): VF - The stay at the Royalton Riviera Cancun was absolutely amazing from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed, cared for, and completely at ease. The resort itself is stunning, beautifully maintained, and perfectly designed for both relaxation and luxury.
What truly made our experience exceptional was the incredible staff. Lydia, the General Manager, was outstanding. Her leadership and attention to detail are clearly reflected in every aspect of the resort. She made us feel valued and ensured everything about our stay exceeded expectations.
Yael from Guest Services was equally phenomenal. She went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy throughout our visit. Her warmth, professionalism, and genuine care made such a difference and added a very personal touch to our experience.
The entire stay was incredibly relaxing. Whether we were lounging by the pool, enjoying the beach, or simply taking in the peaceful atmosphere, we felt completely stress-free. The service was seamless, the ambiance was tranquil, and every detail was thoughtfully handled so we could truly unwind.
We left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and already looking forward to returning. We highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious and deeply relaxing getaway in Cancun.
- medinam207 (10/5): Restaurant Dorado - Very friendly staff, had an amazing time. Really good food as well. Will come back💕 Azul was so nice.
- suerP3930NW (10/5): Service staff - Just want to say that Marcelino at the buffet was so kind and attentive! He made our dinner experience that much more enjoyable!! All the service staff at Royalton Riviera are top notch! Thank you Marcelino and thank you Mexico!
- Guide27957047582 (10/5): Hideaway bar in diamond club - Me and my gf had a great time at the hideaway bar in the diamond club if you want to have good drinks and alot of laughs ask for Aaron and Juan you wont regret it.
- Roving27140572329 (10/5): Awesome resort - Amazing resort, staff are above and beyond welcoming and helpful. If you can get the diamond club do it. It is totally worth the extra money. The butler will make all your reservations, even reserve chairs for you at the beach or pool (otherwise it can be hard to get a sunny spot). Food was amazing at every restaurant although the steak is fatty. You have extra restaurant access with diamond club. Rooms are clean and large. would go back.
- Ausschlafen (10/5): Paradise - Great hotel in total, but Rubi, Sr. Raul and Ezekiel at the Hideaway Pool make the difference! Thank you so much for the unforgettable vacation!
- KevinW913 (4/5): Watch out for Bait & Switch! Hugo saved the trip! - Resort Review
We stayed at the Royalton resort on Feb 2 - 9. It ended up being our least enjoyable trip to this area of Mexico. We have been to Cozumel and the area near Playa del Carmen for many years.
Cons
Our major issue with the resort started at check-in. We fell victim to the “bait and switch”! We had booked a Luxury Suite Ocean View with Terrace Jacuzzi in the Hideaway section with our travel agent. The hotel check-in person, Sebastian, stated that he could upgrade us for free to the Diamond section. We overheard that our traveling companions were getting the same deal. Excited about the upgrade, and wanting to get to the beach, we signed a document upgrading us to the Diamond section. What we didn’t realize, until after we left our registration and talked to our bellhop, was that our room was now in the Family section of the resort in building 7, Room 7312, not the Hideaway. We still had an ocean view, but a very much smaller room. Since we liked the beach section in front of the Hideaway, we had to walk a considerable distance from our room to the beach area. We also had to deal with noise / music until 11 pm most nights from the nearby stage. Our traveling companions were switched from an ocean view, to a mangrove facing room near the Hideaway section. They also had to deal with late night partiers until 4 am one morning in the room next door. Learn a lesson from us - go look at the room first, before you sign the upgrade paperwork to the Diamond section! I think our stay started out bad, and it was hard for the resort to recover for the rest of the trip.
Building 7 suffers from a strong sewer smell. Especially near the stairway.
Watch your step! My wife tripped on a small ramp near the Martini bar leading to the elevator serving the Sports bar! Pretty dangerous planning. There are also a few spots like this throughout the resort. Be careful!
We usually sat on the beach near the Hideaway to get shade from the palm trees. The towel game is active. Be out by 730 am. One morning the staff took our towels.
We did not take any excursions. We are beach people. The fishing trip was quoted at $450 for half a day..
At our check out, the hotel employee Vicente tried to make us pay the local tax twice. We are thankful my wife keeps receipts. Of course, later, he produced our receipt from check in and then he apologized.
Pros
I think our trip was saved by Hugo C. who provided us tremendous beach service at the Hideaway Beach Club. He was a great server. He even offered a beach side tequila tasting to educate us. Many of the other employees at the resort were certainly not as friendly and outgoing.
Our traveling companion booked our meals all at once on our second day. We had dinners in most of the restaurants. Our dinners were also pretty good. Our favorite meal was at the Japanese grill and the least favorite was weirdly, the Mexican restaurant. I was surprised at the Mexican restaurant that they didn’t have any access to coffee to enjoy my dessert. We went to the buffet at breakfast. The omelets were good.
The food trucks were great when food was available. They were pretty hit and miss. The one located by Hideaway beach served hamburgers and fries until they ran out. I think it also depended on what employees were working. Pizza was located behind the stage.
Water bottles were supplied to the room. I left a daily tip.
- lsmithyyc (8/5): Pleasantly surprised - I have to admit, I came into this trip with very low expectations after reading a bunch of one-star reviews… and I was pleasantly surprised.
The rooms were beautiful, clean and well-maintained, even though we didn’t get an ocean view as hoped. The grounds are beautiful, with lots of pools to choose from. We stayed in the Hideaway section (adult-only), but mostly spent our time at the Diamond Club pool, which was quiet and relaxing. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
As for the negatives, there were a few things that stood out:
- Our booking was initially just for the Hideaway, but the people we were traveling with were upgraded to Diamond Club. We decided to pay an extra CAD 1,100 to have similar privileges, but honestly, the perks didn’t feel worth it. It mainly gave access to certain bars and one pool, which we hardly used. We also found that even with Diamond Club access, we couldn’t make certain reservations that our friends with Butler service could.
- Another downside was a noticeable sewer smell in a few areas of the property, particularly around the buffet, stairwells, and some common hallway areas. It was off-putting at times.
Overall, the resort exceeded my expectations in terms of cleanliness, staff friendliness, and pool options. The extras we paid for weren’t quite worth it, and the odor in certain areas was a noticeable downside, but it didn’t ruin the trip.
- Samantha (4/5): Room Service, food truck horrible. water smelled like sewage. Casino Bullshit. - The price I PAID TO EAT FROM FOOD TRUCKS AND ROOM SERVICE WAS definitely unacceptable. Every time I tried to make a reservation to eat at the restaurants, the App didn't work. which I believe worked for all the WHITE people and not the African American. The water smelled like sewage. The room smelled like mildew. I will never revisit Mexico.
- devind651 (4/5): Go with a different resort!!! - This hotel is not a place I would recommend.
Pool & Hot Tubs: The pool temperature was ice cold. I understand the weather wasn’t the best, but even the hot tubs were cold, which was very disappointing.
Shots & Bar Service: The bartenders would not make fun or specialty shots and frequently said they didn’t have ingredients. We’ve traveled to many resorts and have always been able to get a variety of shots and drinks. Here, they would make a good whiskey drink once or twice and then suddenly say they were out. This was the worst drink and shot experience we’ve had at any resort.
Casino: The casino itself was fun, but when you started winning, staff would stand extremely close and watch over your shoulder to the point it felt uncomfortable.
Food: The food was below average overall. The sushi was poor quality and most places served food that wasn’t hot. The food trucks and the Indian restaurant were by far the best dining options on the property.
App & Reservations: Guests are told to download the app to book restaurants and navigate the resort, but none of the restaurants had availability for over a month. We ended up having to go through our butler for everything and never used the app successfully.
Service: Most staff were friendly, but very few went the extra mile.
Standout Staff:
Hector (pool attendant) was fantastic and made reserving pool and beach seating very easy.
Michelle (our butler) was the best butler we’ve ever had on any vacation. The other couple we traveled with even ended up using him because their assigned butler provided little help. Michelle truly made a disappointing trip much better.
Overall: This was one of the worst all-inclusive resorts we’ve stayed at. I would strongly recommend looking at other resorts if you want to get good value for your money.
- bernicem706 (10/5): Chef experience - We did the chefs experience and chef Adrian, sommelier Rudis, and Pedro were amazing. The attention to detail and explanation of the food and wine were amazing! I would highly recommend this experience!
- CameronS1517 (10/5): An escape to paradise <3 - What a wonderful week at the Hideaway! The resort is beautiful, the food is excellent, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Some highlights from our time:
- Daily beach volleyball with Gabriel. He is part of the resort's "vibe team" which hosts many daily events. We love volleyball and the court and equipment were better than we expected. The scheduled events made it easy to find other players and organize additional pickup games ourselves.
- Daily pickleball. Immaculate facilities and equipment, and there are 4 courts so it was easy to reserve when we wanted to play. There are also 2 tennis courts in similarly excellent condition. Shout out to Edgar at Royalton Fit - he always greeted us with a big smile at the entrance to the gym and ran a hilarious and fun Aquafit session early in the week.
- Manuel's drinks at the Hideaway beach bar. No matter what we asked for, Manuel delivered something tasty. An incredibly warm man who worked extremely hard. Nothing beats sipping delicious Mango Tangos (with tajin rims) on the meticulously maintained white sand beach between dips in the ocean.
- Madonna and the other Hideaway pool bartenders. They told us about some of the different local liqueurs, made some mean and unique cocktails for us to try, and encouraged us to do a group mezcal tasting, which was a ton of fun.
- Pedro's omelettes. Ingredients changed daily and were always fresh and delicious. Similarly, there was a taco station at the lunch buffet with yummy salsas, guac and tortillas. Get there early to avoid long lines.
- Dinner at Dorado. The a la carte restaurants were generally hit and miss for us, but this one was our clear favourite - so good we went back the next night. Ocean Point was excellent as well as long as you are prepared to spend most of the evening there - our dinner lasted about 3 hours but it was a lovely time. Our group had mixed reviews of Agave, Taj, Caribbean and Zen, with Zen being our least favourite overall. Shout out to Rodrigo and Alberto who were very helpful in booking our restaurant reservations for us.
- The hydrotherapy session at the spa was a pleasant surprise. Victor took great care of us and we left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated after the 90 minute circuit.
- Speaking of feeling relaxed, the bed, bath and shower in our room were top quality. It was obvious that recent renovations had been completed as the rooms were in great shape overall.
A few things that could have made our stay even better:
- 1 or 2 more late night food options. The sports bar closes relatively early and the only option after that is room service, which was hit and miss: our group had multiple orders throughout the week that were not delivered and when we did get our orders, the food often didn't hit the spot. Get the jalapeno poppers, though.
- 1 or 2 more late night bar options. The Hideaway pool bar had fantastic low key entertainment until 10pm but closed immediately afterward. At that point, we had to head to the main bars which were on the louder/messier side.
- Extended beach and pool bar hours. These bars closed at 5pm, which felt a little early. Even 1 extra hour would have made a huge difference, as we were often enjoying the sunshine until around 6pm when we went to get ready for dinner.
- Better clarity around the benefits of our package. Our group found out on the second to last day that we were each supposed to have received champagne and wine bottles in our rooms, as well as an hour-long massage and other luxuries. Unfortunately it was too late to take advantage of those benefits by that point. Other perks of our package were not consistently applied to all of our rooms despite us booking together, which was confusing and frustrating.
Overall, we would unquestionably return to this resort and recommend it to our friends. We are extremely grateful to have had a week in paradise here, and look forward to coming back soon. Muchas gracias!
- B9253TLkimm (10/5): Mexico 2026 - We are having an amazing girls trip and Hugo. C or beach waiter is Fabulous 💗
- aaronfF3410CN (10/5): Excellent Service, Food, and Stay - We just finished a 7-night stay at the Hideaway at Royalton Riveria Cancun. We are a couple in our early thirties for context. We had an excellent stay and would definitely return to this resort.
Biggest pros for us: The food was excellent. Service and staff were amazing. Comfortable stay.
Biggest Cons for us: small vanity in our room category; lukewarm hot tub at hideaway pool, incessant sales tactics
Thank you for a great stay!
Full in-depth review:
Check-in: simple process and quick. Checked in by 240pm and waited approximately 15 mins for a room to be ready. Bellhop brought our bags to our room. Safe was open but in locked position on our arrival, security was up within 20-30 mins and it was quickly rectified. Had issues with login to the hotel app to make dinner reservations and this was dealt with by returning to the check in area, a 10min process.
Room: stayed in a luxury junior suite, non-pool view. Good room overall, some minor cosmetic issues with the room (paint flaking, scratched mirror, some tarnished fixtures etc.), nothing I would consider a deal breaker. Water was always hot in sink, shower, and tub. Hotel provides shampoo, conditioner, body wash, didn’t use any as we travel with our own. Small vanity area in this class of room, need to utilize desk for makeup application. These rooms have privacy curtains for both the shower and the toilet. The tub has a sliding pane of glass on the one side and is exposed on the other. Definitely a consideration if travelling with a friend versus a partner. Bed was comfortable to sleep in. A/C worked a little too well for us some nights as we woke up cold at times. Bar fridge stocked with Dos Equis, Coors Light, bottled water, Pepsi products, this fridge is restocked daily, we left a small tip in the fridge and would receive plenty during the restock.
Resort: very large resort and clean. Lots of activities, lots of restaurants, lots of guests. Plenty of things for all types of vacationers. Never seemed overly crowded in any one place.
Pool: spent majority of time at the hideaway pool. This hotel has several pools to choose from across the site, but this was the only adult only pool so we stuck here. Chairs were plentiful, if you are up early 830-9am you can easily get a spot before grabbing breakfast. It may not be the best positioned chair but you will have a place, if you are up earlier I’d imagine you’d have a wider choice. The pool itself is cold, refreshing on a hot day but too cold to get in if it’s cool/windy. The hot tub in this area was lukewarm at best, unable to be increased in temperature according to the staff, would’ve appreciated it being warmer on the cool days we had.
Beach: we aren’t beach people so really only walked it or went for a quick ocean swim, it seemed nice enough. No major seaweed issues but there is a bit there. On the windiest day we noticed more, but still less than we’ve seen at other resorts. Chairs seemed plentiful on the beach and the beach bar always seemed quieter with little to no wait. The beach at the hideaway is separated from the rest so there are no kids in this section. Kids may walk past from the other resorts, but I didn’t see any lingering in the hideaway section.
Food: everything we ate was very good to excellent. Buffet selection was large and had good variety for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At the hideaway you have access to its two restaurants. First, Dorado (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with a seafood focus besides breakfast which was more traditional. The other is Ocean Point Bistro, a French inspired tasting menu style restaurant. You do have access to the main resort restaurants as well. We ate dinners at Hunter Steakhouse, Grazie Italian, Taj Indian, Caribbean Grill, Zen Teppanyaki as well as Dorado and Ocean Point Bistro. Each of these dinners were very good, we would happily have eaten at each of these restaurants a second time.
Restaurant Reservations: we were non-Diamond Club. Reservations could be made thru the Royalton app, some let you only book a certain number of days ahead, others you could book well into the future. Our reservations were: one at 630, one at 730, one at 930, four at 830. This worked well for us as we like eating later. Reservations generally seemed available at 530 as well but the slots of 630/730 may not be available.
Drinks: good in our opinion. They had a wide selection and would make you anything you’d ask for. For the Canadians they even have Clamato juice for your Caesars, a welcome surprise.
Entertainment: due to our dinner reservation timing we often missed large portions of the entertainment. They always had a more family geared show at the main pool and a smaller show for adults only at the hideaway pool.
Service: excellent. Everyone greeting you with smiles. Happy to help if you needed it. Definitely bring money for tipping the excellent service of the bartenders and servers as well as the housekeepers and fridge restocking. We didn’t order room service so have no comment on the service.
I would like to give a shoutout to the excellent staff we encountered on our stay:
Hideaway pool entertainment team: Francisco, Ezequiel, Rubi, others I didn’t catch their names
Hideaway pool bar: bartenders and servers: Juan, Jancito, Julio, Aaron, Romello, Madonna
Dorado breakfast - both waiters named Miguel
At ocean point: waiter Marcos
Martini Mix: bartenders Augustin and Alonso
At hunter steakhouse: waiter Alexis
At Grazie: waiter Luis and the chef Arturo
At Caribbean Grill: manager Fonte and waiter Cesar
Housekeeper Silvia
Other negatives:
Incessant sales tactics. When sitting on your chair or even walking the resort there are people asking you if you want to book the spa, take pictures (sometimes with parrots or sombreros), book excursions, go to cocobongo etc. You can take the pictures for free but if you want a print it will run you $20USD. I get they are employing more staff to do this but it seems over the top and cheap. I would say on average per day we’d say “no gracias” to these tactics 6 plus times per day, it’s annoying to the point of being laughable on day 2 or 3.
Occasional power cut outs. Short lived power cut outs (longest was maybe 2-3mins) occurred at least 5-6times during our stay.
This was an overwhelmingly positive stay, we would not hesitate to stay here again!
- Juliesairportcafe (10/5): Fantastic holiday - Had an absolute fabulous time, we upgraded to diamond pkg. Our butler's were fantastic, if there was ever an issue they fixed it for us. - Camper56898 (10/5): Fantastic - We had dinner at Armadillo and it was fantastic. The service by Medardo was excellent. The cocktails by Fermin also in the resto were the best so far in the resort! Overall a great meal amongst the best in the entire resort.
- infamouss2026 (2/5): Horrible experience - Terrible experience all the way around. From a dirty, broken jacuzzi to waitstaff providing no answers to our complaints.

- 489karenc (10/5): Ricardo is the most amazing bartender! - Ricardo, the diamond club / hideaway bartender is the best!! He is so good with all of the people he serves. We had so much fun with him all this week. ❤️
- emmaaO7416EG (10/5): Incredible staff as always! - We have been to several Royalton resorts and always have an amazing time. The food and atmosphere are always incredible but the staff really make our trip every time. This trip to Cancun we had the pleasure of meeting Hugo at the beach bar who went above and beyond teaching us about the different types of Mexican tequila, and made sure we had a magical time at the beach. Our glasses were never empty! Miguel at the beach bar is also an absolute pleasure to meet and chat with. Jesus at the tapenyaki was a joy and made our dinner memorable. We also met Yuri and Ronaldo at the spa who were incredible. As well as victor and Joanne who were wonderful and kind.
Thank you to the incredible staff who go above and beyond. We’re so grateful and can’t wait to be back!!
- 320darylp (10/5): Hideaway Beach bar - Hideaway Beach Bar - fabulous service from Hugo. Attentive, happy, chatty and professional. Thank you Hugo it was great to meet you
- 975darlenet (10/5): Awesome vacation - Had a fabulous time at Royalton Hideaway! The beach bar was great and Hugo C took excellent care of us, always checking to make sure we were taken care of. The beach occasionally had seaweed but they were always cleaning it so the beach was lovely. Our butler Ulises also made sure we had everything we needed. The room was lovely and our maid kept it very clean. The room fridge was stocked for us everyday. The food in the restaurants were excellent
and we always got great service. We would highly recommend this resort!
- Connector37128976961 (10/5): Agave - Egidio was a great server at Agave. The service was great, the food was fantastic. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone

- Jo_1_P (10/5): Great resort, huge, great food - This is a Great resort. We typically don’t go to all ages resorts but this place is huge and you don’t even notice them. The hideaway is great for Adults only. There is always something to do and the food is great. The staff are very helpful and there are too many to name but Sergio made our whole vacation special. Thank you.
- C9297YHma (10/5): Great Holiday Destination - Great resort, lots of food options (steakhouse outstanding). Hugo C was our beach waiter and was fantastic. He was attentive and suggested a couple drinks I had never had before. Great job!
- 397mitchd (8/5): Best value resort in this stretch of Cancun - Had a bit of sunshine and a bit of clouds but it’s a good place to be. Hugo C. took great care of us at the Hideaway Beach Bar. Friendly conversation and great recommendations.
Rooms were clean enough, needed some repair but are not in disarray.
Adults-only sections often had kids passing through on beach and by the pool. The hotel isn’t divided so it’s kind of based on good faith to stay in your area. Pool areas can get loud during events. Decent value all inclusive, but don’t expect top shelf liquor, beer variety, or world class food.
- 960meghanr (10/5): Activity - Activities are so fun! Rubi led us in a dreamcatcher activity by the Hideaway pool, so fun!! Good family thing to do when the weather wasn’t very nice!
- cathrynsian (10/5): Happy Hugo @ the Hideaway - Loved the Hideaway beach bar and a special mention to Hugo who always greeted us with a friendly smile & looked after us with his friendly chat & wonderful drink recommendations. Thank you Hugo!

- karinfD4595HY (8/5): A Week to Unwind - A very relaxing time by the pool or beach. Staff is incredible and the food was good. Love the room service menu too. Lots of activities if that’s what you like.
- familywithone (2/5): 2650$ for a luxury swim out and we arrive at 11 pm to no rooms for either of our party. - We arrived at 11 pm. Neither of our luxury swim out junior suite available. They lie and say we are getting an upgrade for one night. We are livid. Three people in a room with one bed. Expect us to sleep on a pull out couch for $2650 cost. And get this - no bedding for the couch. The upgrade is not at hideaway - the room is not an upgrade. Disgusting service at the front desk. We are heartbroken- planned a girls trip and booked in JULY - splurged and arrive to no concern about our booking reservations. No welcome booklet of information. Can’t get into wifi. No welcome drink. Huge line up at 11 pm to check in - a few beers and cans of pop on a table. Could NOT be more disappointed
- M8949LEannieh (6/5): Poor communication and obviously understaffed - Reservations didn’t call us back before our trip. We wanted to use a different credit card. We called the hotel and said no problem just change it when you get here. When we checked in, there was nothing they could do to help us. We also had a horrible experience at Dorado the seafood restaurant. We sat down at 6:30 and food was delivered at 8:00 but three things were missing. We waited and then just left and went to the buffet. We had next door neighbors that were arguing all night. The first night we called and no answer at the front desk or the operator. The second night, we got a hold of security and they came up and solved the problem. We alerted the help desk. They said they only had one operator after 11:00 pm. I think that is completely dangerous! They said they would do something for us and never called to offer us anything. The least they could have done was call and apologize and say there was nothing they could do. Very disappointed how this place was run. The staff at the pools were very friendly and the staff for the activities. Mexico was beautiful but won’t be back to your hotel.
- R9049WIkurtp (10/5): Excellent Gourmet Marche Service - Angel at Gourmet Marche was fantastic! Really good service and friendly - even got dad a special margarita
- sandyhT581CW (10/5): Armadillo restaurant review. - As a group of 4 myself, wife and my Inlaws, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Every course was prepared very nicely and served by a very professional and courteous waiter . Amalio made our experience extremely special and enjoyable. This was our second visit to this amazing resort and our favourite restaurant in the resort. Having wait staff like Amalio makes every occasion special. I highly recommend that you visit Armadillo at Royalton Riviera Cancun.
