Guest Reviews
- David J (6/5): - Main problem was lack of preparedness. Had to ask for toilet paper as there was none in the bathroom. Then we had a kettle but no coffee/tea/milk in room. Problems that should not have arisen but were all resolved quickly. Steps to the shower made access extremely difficult for anyone suffering lack of mobility.
- A M (10/5): - The hotel was lovely, Clean, warm and friendly. I ate in one evening and the food was excellent. Served promptly, hot and plentiful. My experience with the hotel was very good but my experience with hotels.com not good at all. I booked a pay on arrival at the hotel but 3 days beforehand the fee was taken from my bank account to pay a hotel with the same name, but 250 miles away. This led to my bank account being blocked and me being stranded away on holiday without access to my funds. The hotel are trying to help in this but it us the booking company at fault - and so far they have done absolutely nothing to help!
- Rashpal (8/5): - It’s nice
- Stoyan (2/5): - worst room ever! dirty and stained carpets, no soap or shower gel, dust and sticky surfaces. TV remote with leaked batteries, some random TV receiver on the floor but didn't work. Bed mattress ware bad to. Worst of all... between the windows and curtains there ware 20-30 fly's... got rid of them only to be awaken 5-6AM by another 20-30 fly's and a wasp.... and all this cost me £90!!!!! Had no other option but to stay as I arrived after 7PM and had to be on the road by 8 next day... food in the pub is not any better. had cheese burger over £10 and taste was similar to food from a food truck on a car boot market... I am looking on getting my money back or at least half. Shame as locals are really nice and friendly ppl.
- David (8/5): - it was a old pub its what i expected in the right area for us it was clean everything worked but needs up-dating but not to much staff and food was great loved it
- Carolyn (2/5): - I have no intrinsic idea why this 'hotel' is advertised on the Expedia website. The room was scruffy ('tired' is too kind a description), the skirting boards and carpets dirty, there was no soap or hot water. The bedding was stained. I left after one night. When I spoke with the landlord the following day, his use of the vernacular was astounding - not exactly Welsh Hospitality at its best! This establishment should be avoided at all costs. A total waste of money.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The owner was aggressive, swearing at us and staff, banging on our door like the police
- John (10/5): - The inn brought me home to Wales and was a shelter from a storm within a warm community. Dai will go above and beyond to care for his own and strangers. My room at the inn will carry memories, as I am sure is the experience for many. I could have won a walk up a mountain - another time. Thank you and your staff Dai:-)
- Jean (8/5): - old world charm, friendly staff. Good quality linen.
- William (6/5): Overnight stay - Comfortable, clean room; but ‘tired’ decoration and no milk/coffee ( but there was tea and sugar! ). No ‘complimentary’ soap/shampoo in the bathroom. Easy check in/out and friendly, helpful staff.
- Pawel (8/5): - Very good location. Loveky staff.
- Jack (2/5): - Checked in. Walked out. Fireallarms disconnected. Dirty rooms and damp.
- Nigel (8/5): - Very basic accomodation. No frills stay
- john (8/5): - beautiful setting and friendly host helpful and willing staff convenient to Bala wwithout the over inflated prices
- Aled (10/5): - I love the New Inn! Always feel so welcome and the beds are super comfy.
- Ruth (8/5): - Quiet location, no local shop. Booked due to location inbetween tourist attractions. Staff friendly and helpful. Smoke alarm covered up. Door to bathroom opened inwards so not much room in very small bathroom, hot water tap only trickling, no clothes/ coat hangers. Someone tried handle of door whilst trying to sleep.
- ROHAN (10/5): - Great welcome by staff, great dinner, amazing room spot clean and mountain air breeze is lovely.. great stay..thank you.
- Rachel (2/5): - Sadly I can’t say much positive. The wifi didn’t work (and there was no phone coverage). Not too much of a problem normally but we needed to drown out the incredibly loud party going on downstairs, including having on the piano… and general screaming! The TV also didn’t work so that was not an option either. Around 40/50 late teens, very drunk, and running up and down the stairs to the accommodation and shouting in the halls. The walls are so thin that we might as well have been in the party. The owner did offer to transfer us to a completely empty building (that was pretty unappealing on walking in) that he told us had no heating on. My daughter was terrified to move over and the rooms were not great, with beds jammed into small rooms (but I guess it was nice to offer to move us). Our room generally was pretty shabby, much like a bunkhouse but twice the price of the bunk houses I’d seen. When we left in the morning I couldn’t find anyone and the pub area was locked with the lights off… when I called to explain where we’d left the key (a fellow guest helped up to find the way out of the building) owner did say he was in the breakfast room, however nobody had mentioned a breakfast room and there was no indication there was one with the fellow guest saying he’d seen the owner leave. We got barely any sleep, had I been alone I’d have asked for my money back and slept in the car! Sorry, wish I could have a nice review.
- Sellwyn (4/5): - NOT welcoming, shower inadequate, quite dirty. Pictures are deceiving. Could hear all conversations from other rooms. WiFi didn’t work Would not recommend
- Lance (8/5): - Stayed two nights, friendly pub with good food .
Staff were great, location fabulous.
Rooms were clean and good shower, mattress a little lumpy but overall great value for money would definitely use again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Pub overnighter. - Utilitarian accommodation. Landlord received us in a functional manner. Food was poor. Room was in need of decorative attention.
Clean bedding & a good night's sleep. We left in the morning by the front door...no-one was about.
- kate (10/5): great place to stay - 2 night stay only. Check in easy at the main bar,, staff very helpful. Food was good and we ate there the first evening.
WE were offered a free upgrade which was great and we will definately stay again when we are back in Wales. Beer was also great which was a bonus for my husband who likes real ale.
- Chris (8/5): - Stayed for 2 night’s whilst ding the mick Extance experience. Kind welcoming friendly host Di & bar staff. Bar, pub grub, Poole & walks what more can a father son trip want. Great couple of days.
- Sam (8/5): - Did what we needed, 1 night stay. Awesome views 👍
- Keri (6/5): A decent base. - Set among the soaring, spectacular mountains of north Powys, this early 18thC pub accommodation is very basic and the rooms need serious updating and some maintenance repairs. Rooms were sparcely furnished but had towels and soap, a large telly and clean bathroom. Despite the very basic provision, there are many plusses. Dai and his staff are very welcoming, very helpful and keen to make your stay a comfortable one. He'll prepare a cooked breakfast himself if you want one and the food is good. We ate there on all three of our nights there. There is free parking space but if full, there's a car park literally a few yards further on. It's very popular with locals with a full complement of dining customers, walkers and also motorcyclists on a one night stop. There were no issues that needed resolving but Dai was very glad to have a chat and make sure you weren't in need of anything.
- Les (10/5): - Very historic as was the village
- Sandeep (6/5): Poor experience - Location is beautiful but hotel and its services isnt great. The room had leak patches with poor cleaning though bedding was ok. Heating was excellent which helped the kids. Breakfast options were poor with just bread toast as an option.
- Nicolae (4/5): - We arrived at 9PM. It looked like we were not expected. We had to wait about 10 mins to get in a room across the street of the hotel. Possibly that our room was given to someone else. In the room we got it was no soap or shampoo, I had to ask the reception for them. It was no heat, I had to start the radiator, the walls had holes (I was thinking at mice and spiders getting in thru there), a large mirror on a desk was falling if no cup was stopping it from sliding. I was almost to have it smashed by taking the cup for tea. Unpleasant to cross the street with a small child just to ask reception for soap and shampoo
- Verified traveler (8/5): Small gripes, over-all would stay again. - Great location for Welsh nature. Very friendly staff. Had problems with WiFi both in the pub and the room. No info in the room regarding meal times, network access etc which was odd but the ladies behind the bar were very helpful and friendly so was able to have an enjoyable stay.
- christian (6/5): Great location, Sad run down hotel - Firstly, we knew this was a 2 star hotel when we booked. It was the location that was important not the facilities. Never the less the hotel is cosmetically dated and very run down.
Room 8 has a broken toilet seat, a tap that does not turn off, a dribble of a cold shower, broken window latches, a double wardrobe full of Christmas decorations and items of clothing, torn carpets, silicon sealant on sockets, a bedside seat made of a chipboard box and uncovered foam.
The location is stunning, it's just a shame the owner has let the hotel deteriorate this much. It will not take much effort to fix these broken items in the hotel which will make a huge difference to visitors experience.
- Jean (8/5): - Very welcoming
- A (4/5): Only for emergency stay - The worst hotel I've stayed in. Should've been 1 star. I've booked double room but found a twin room with a bunker bed. Looked like a dungeon. It's not only outdated but dirty and shabby. My mattress didn't have any support. There is a kettle but no sockets around. Positives: it was quite.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It's not a place for family stay.
- Tammy (10/5): - Was amazing, was able to take my dogs, such a friendly place, lovely people will definitely be going back
- Ann (8/5): Stsy - Booked last minute . Quite basic but ok. Had a meal after settled in downstairs which was good value . Small things no milk for tea or coffee , I see someone else has mentioned this so maybe owners can act on this.
Ok for short stays lovely area
- Martin (8/5): - Thanks Dai for looking after us so well this weekend.
Food is very good - best steak and ale pie thanks!
A great pub in a remote location
- Simon (6/5): - Stayed here a few times it does the job
- Michael (4/5): - Booked a two got a double and shower did not work. Booked a table for dinner before our trip and that was a shambles as we were not given a table , free for all
Nothing I liked about this place.
- Michael (6/5): Needs a refurbishment - Owner on check in wasnt very welcoming very old shabby and dirty, i know its a 17th century inn but but thats no excuse to let it fall apart, the room carpets are worse than an old public bar carpet, the bed was falling apart but surprised its lasted this long as it holds a kings warrant from 1929. Only good thing was the location for sightseeing and walking, and the bar maid from Leeds was very nice and cheerful too
- Stefan (6/5): - Very olde world. Great for a night over if you are adventuring for the weekend but wouldn't go there for a family vacation for longer. It was nice enough and welcoming although our room was above the bar and the music and laughter went on very late and was quite loud. If you are a light sleeper probably look elsewhere, but if not this is a perfectly good place to stay for the night.
- Joesph (10/5): - Lovely property lovely little overnight stay wish it was longer amazing views lovely and clean 😁
- Helen (2/5): What a dump! - Why is this dump on Hotels.com? £70 for a very small room with a double and single bed crammed in, and no breakfast. No bedside table or lamp. Matresses and pillows should have been thrown years ago - we could feel every spring in both beds. Large cobwebs, dirty carpet, rubbish in drawers, rubbish under bed, 2 coffee sachets and a few loose tea bags and a kettle but no milk. Bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen, smaller than a touring caravan bathroom, although it was reasonably clean. Towels and bedding were thankfully fine, but no pillow or matress protectors. TV was positioned on window ledge behind curtains and impossible to see from bed. Had we not arrived so late in the evening we would not have stayed even though we had pre paid, but we couldn't find an alternative at that time. We left at 7.30 in the morning after a terrible nights sleep. Nothing like the photos on the web site. DO NOT GO THERE!
- Craig (2/5): An embarrassment to hotels and to Hotels.com. - Key requirements- WiFi and clean
Advertised as having WiFi - I needed it to work and communication with the kayaking event coordinator. No WiFi when asked about it I was told it’s because other people were using it. (Assist manager)
I tried it at 5am still none!
2* expected it to be clean and have what is advertised!!
Room not just tired but dirty!!! Unfit to stay in.
I asked to speak to the manager on Friday eve - assitant told me he wasn’t there.
I tried on Saturday morning, no one available
So left the key and left. I called to tell them my situation and could the manager call me back to organise a refund as not coming back he didn’t call me!! I wanted to discuss a refund.
- Verified traveler (2/5): AWFUL!! - Awful!!!
The rooms were dirty, worn out and not fit for purpose. The shower head was broken and the carpet torn and threadbare.
The breakfast room was dirty and there was random items everywhere. The cutlery and dishes were not the cleanest. The breakfast on the second morning did not appear as apparently the chef was drunk the night before and did not turn up!
The bar food was okay but I found a large piece of blue plastic in my lasagne.
This place needs gutting and rebuilding. It should be condemned. The mattresses were old and stained.
The two bar staff we met were very nice and helpful.
The worst place that I have ever stayed in.
- megan (4/5): Terrible experience - The hotel is extremely basic and furniture appeared old, giving the overall feel of our stay disappointing, especially when we paid £70 each. We realised one of the rooms had two beds - it would’ve been nice to have been told this so we didn’t pay for another room (I stayed at the hotel with my best friend and her partner). The next morning we left our rooms at around 10:50am as checkout was at 11am. It was just the weirdest experience - there was no one in the whole building and doors were locked. We were in the hotel alone and had no one to speak to/hand our key to. We wanted to go to the bar for breakfast and juice (there were signs around about breakfast beginning at 8am) but due to the fact that there were no staff around whatsoever, we had to just leave. Its extremely unprofessional and strange to have no staff members (or anyone!!) in the building at all. Genuinely felt like something from The Twilight Zone. I would absolutely not recommend this hotel, even for just one night.
- Richard (8/5): Very welcoming... - Fantastic pub and host (Dei). Arrived late but welcomed and the landlord went out of his way for food and hospitality. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast is plentiful and tasty. We'll be back.
- Phil (10/5): - Friendly staff, good food and beer. Excellent base for activities.
- Brian (6/5): New Inn - This is a basic hotel, definitely no frills and in need of some work (if only to complete the work already started & fixing basics like taps & water being able to drain from the sink).
Staff were not sure what to do when we tried to check-in & no staff available to offer breakfast on first morning.
..... but it is located in a beautiful part of Powys, Wales.
- Judith (2/5): Don’t stay at the New inn llangynog - Absolutely horrendous.. dirty… in fact filthy… absolute shambles… almost traumatised… pics attached
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Enjoyed
- YALI (4/5): Don't want to go back again. - Nice little village, the service is not good, room was dirty. Breakfast are very poor, milk has gone bad! No one available when we check out.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Totally disappointing. - The Pub is ok, beer was good, food was not amazing, but the Room… awful. Not the room we expected ( different from the photos appearing in the descriptions ) the cleanliness of the whole place is questionable, neglected, and urgently needing a complete refurbishment. Mushy smell in the whole place, blankets, closet, etc…On a positive note, the bathroom was clean. We were suppose to stay for 2 nights, but stayed only 1. Sorry but no matter how much a place costs or how many stars, there are some essentials in this business.
- Jason (10/5): - Amazing food and very friendly staff
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We had reserved two triple rooms but the landlord had given one to another customer so we had to use a twin and a triple, our room had no pillows, the noisy pump system behind the toilet was very smelly, we had no TV and the shower was literally a gamble to get hot water if any at all, we paid for bed and breakfast, we’re told it was available from 8am, when we came down there was nothing left of the toast and cereal and there was no one to make us our cooked breakfast, another group has managed to call and wake them up and got some fried eggs for a sandwich at this point we decided to go elsewhere.
Value: poor
Service: very poor
Will not be staying here again
- Stephen (2/5): Nose - Noisy ... very noisy
- Verified traveler (8/5): Revolution Bike Park Trip - Good stay at the New Inn during a trip to Revolution Bike Park. Friendly staff, clean room and a good atmosphere in the pub.
I’d recommend the pub for anyone visiting the bike park.
- Verified traveler (8/5): An alright stay for the night - The room cleanliness can be improved, there is a cupboard where they keep all the old dirty pillow and smell mushy... as long as you don't open the cupboard, you'll be fine. There were cellar spiders in the room, which I guess might be normal. The bathroom is supper clean!!!! Parking is plenty, overall it was an okay stay! Breakfast was fine and standard full breakfast. The owner/staff were pretty nice and friendly. Though it can be confusing as there was no proper receptionist table.
- Andrew (2/5): A curtain wouldn’t hurt! - Very poor condition, two large windows in the room, one with no curtains or blinds at all and one with broken blinds. Shocking decoration, we just left the key and got back in the car and left, unbelievably overpriced
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely staff with secure storage for push bikes. Clean, simple, cheap - couldn’t ask for more. Many thanks
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Tupical welsh pub in beautiful location. Just dont expect early breakfast if you off for hiking.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The hotel is in a beautiful area. Unfortunately, the quality of the rooms is sadly lacking. Extremely tired and dirty rooms that are in desperate need of a total overhaul.
- Mark (6/5): Refurbishment Required - A great location and friendly staff, however the hotel itself is desparately in need of refurbishment and a good clean. The bar and dining areas are ok and in keeping with the surrounding area, however the bedrooms are seriously lacking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great quiet place for a relaxing overnight. No phone reception at all, so good to escape that.
Rooms could do with a facelift, but at this price, it's all good.
Breakfast very good, if a little in the large side.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfy bed good size rooms nice old building only another pub in village views of fields and hills
- Stephen (10/5): Family break - Friendly and welcoming, will definitely be going again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great atmosphere excellent staff and comfy bed. Excellent breakfast.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff was nice and helpful. The room and the bathroom was nice and clean, however the toilet was really loud (after flushing it made a loud noise for 5 minutes). Breakfast was OK.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a lovely stay in this Hotel, staff was extremely friendly, the room was really spacious with everything you need. Great value for money, we had a few meals here and portions are enormous! :D Lovely quality food, and beautiful location. What else would you want? :) Thanks for everything! xxx
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I like the atmosphere - warm and friendly, cosy, with spotless bed linen and plush high quality towels. A very relaxing and pleasing bedroom with tea/coffee making facilities and television. No shower but a really good bath and the customary wc and toiletries. WiFi is also available.
Surrounded by good scenery and hills, the air is fresh and I slept like a log! This is not a pretentious hotel - it is more homely and welcoming,
and the food is excellent. I awoke to a hearty breakfast, well prepared and presented. I shall most certainly choose to stay here in the future when I visit North Wales.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Lovely friendly people couldn’t do enough for u but room need tidying up showers need sorting out . Good location Had lovely time would go back
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good pub with decent food, pleasant staff and a clean and comfy bed.
Room was a bit noisy but then it is pub and not a hotel.
- Simon (10/5): A mountain gem - Great place to stay in the mountains of northern wales. Only grumble was not finding Wi-fi code for the annex where my room was. Otherwise perfect. Even to offers of an out of hours breakfast. Can not fault it at all. Lovely place with lovely people.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - very average, but it is Wales, but nice village, food in the inn, especially the lamb, and walks around the countryside
- Matt (6/5): - Value for money, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, but facilities very tired.
- Sean (8/5): - Great inn! The surroundings are very peaceful and quiet. The staff is friendly. The room was super comfortable. Naturally, as this inn is also a pub, there is a bit of pub noise in the evening... only a concern if you're looking to turn in early (which I wasn't, so no problem!). Food in the pub is excellent.
- Verified traveler (4/5): not equipped to be a decent B&B - The staff didn't really know what they were doing, there was no facility in our room to wash your hair (just a bath ), the TV and internet was very poor and kept breaking up. We were told to go to the restaurant in the morning for breakfast, but when we went there, we waited, but had to go and find the only person working who ushered us into the bar area where we were told there are no menus because "I can't be bothered" and we then had to go and find our cereal ourselves - in the restaurant area.
I won't be back
- John (6/5): One- night stop in beautiful, rural Wales - Beautiful countryside but pub/ hotel built in 1751 and decor about the same vintage!
- Michael (10/5): Good food - recommended...
- Verified traveler (2/5): Most Terrible and Awful Place to Stay - The most terrible experience! Nowhere near the photos are shown on the website, extremely poor service, awful condition of the room, smelly sheets, no tea/ coffee in room, broken and smelly toilet, uncovered and hanging electric wires, poor and unhygienic breakfast with dirty cutlery.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lively village inn with a quiet annex - I had a warm welcome and a room in the annex across the road which is being rennovated. I also ate at the pub, lovely food and a good ambiance.
All the staff are friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great for a low maintenance walking couple - Great for a low maintenance couple looking to enjoy the Lakes and all Southern Snowdonia has to offer. On arrival we were informed we had been booked in for a twin instead of a double but staff were happy to correct this for us. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Location is very rural and expect atleast a half hour drive to Bala or Lake Vyrnwy. Same can be said if you need a supermarket/petrol.
- jonathan (10/5): - It was like meeting old friends. All the staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast finished at 10. We were offered breakfast at 11. Highly recommend the New Inn. We stayed 5 nights and were offered a 6th night free by the Landlord. Fantastic food as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent pub/hotel - Nice pub, decent food and beer, comfortable room, a very pleasant stay
- steve (10/5): Nice village hotel with all you need for a weekend - We stayed overnight after a days walking showered had a hearty meal slept okay. Nice surroundings lovely people good value. Not the savoy but splendid for the price
- Paul (6/5): GREAT FOOD COMFY BED - Payment taken in advance but they wanted to take it again.
There was a rock concert outside the hotel all night.
They were very busy so the service was poor.
The room tv didn't work
No wifi in the room
The food was excellent.
The bed was comfy
- Michael (10/5): Great Stay - Great value
- kayzi (8/5): handy for revolution bike park place to stay! - Second stay here. Was here back in December 2016. Come here for mountain biking at Revolution Bike park as it is very close to here. Rooms are basic and you are literally over the pub but clean & friendly. Nice breakfast and hosts let me stay beyond checkout whilst other hald was throwing himself off the side of a mountain! We will be back next time we are here for mountain biking. very friendly lively community pub with nice locals.
- Marina (10/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable place to stay and great food. Scenery is stunning. Will be back again soon.
- vicky (2/5): Mick Extant - Very convenient to stay here if doing the Mick Extant Off Road, as this is where they meet. However while all the staff were lovely and eager to please, the Inn itself is very, very tired and old fashioned. Surfaces in room dusty, furniture outdated, carpets threadbare, paintwork battered. Time for some much needed TLC. The place, according to staff, is very, very busy at weekends and holidays- time to put some of that money back into the premises. Breakfast was well cooked and tasty.
Price is good......we don't expect luxury for the price but The New Inn definately needs updating.
