• Robin (10/5): - Fantastic property with an even better team. Made me feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble and always chatted to me. Offered extra services like trip recommendations. Micheal and the team were superb! The building was secure, well maintained and the included breakfast was great. My room was clean, well laid out and had everything I needed to make my stay relaxing. There is a convenience store 5 minute walk away, Uber’s into the main attractions cost hardly anything and the V&A waterfront was a 20 minute walk away. There is nothing I didnt like about the property, if I have to be picky the shower took a few moments to warm up - hardly a big deal. I will definitely come back to Cape Town and when I do, I hope to stay here again.

The owner Peter and the manager Wendy became like friends and they went overboard to make me feel welcome and to help me out as much as they could. The breakfasts beyond words and Moffat the cook was so much fun to chat with. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the location is great if you enjoy walking. I was able to the walk along the ocean, to the shopping area, the stadium and the downtown area. I am planning to return with my wife and spend a month at this property next winter.

• Lindsey (10/5): Could not fault it - I booked and paid for a room with shared facilities, and I was given an ensuite, and a fridge in my room. I arrived early and was allowed to check in to this cosy and welcoming guest house. Nothing was too much trouble for anybody who worked there. The kitchen area was fantastic, with everything available to use by everyone, with free tea and coffee. The location was so perfect, with it being a short walk to the bus stop, a supermarket, a doctor and the V& A waterfront area. There was a fantastic breakfast available for just 80R. On my day for checking out, I didn't even have to ask if they could hold on to my bag for the day, and if there was a shower for me to use before flying back home...it was offered to me.
• Katherine (10/5): Comfy and close to the Waterfront - Altona Guest House was great. It was very clean and comfortable, the location was perfect for walking around Cape Town. We had the double room with en-suite shower which was a good size. The room is directly off reception so was a little noisy when people were coming in and out but it was fine most of the time.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Simple, clean, convenient - A clean and quiet spot, close to the Waterfront. The room we had was clean and a good size, with a nice ensuite shower room. Parking was an issue - we had to park a couple of streets away which was a bit of a nuisance, but we were there at peak time (Christmas) so it may be better at other times. There was no view out of the window (next door's wall and aircon unit), and the carpets were a bit "tired", but the owner was very nice and helpful, and overall very good value for money.

He was funny and warm. The place is located close to the waterfront. My room was clean, smelled good and I had absolutely NO issues during my 2-night stay. The area is quiet and you will be anywhere you need to be within 10-15 minutes max. Trust me, I felt safe during my entire stay.

Great location to explore all the beauty and heritage this vibrant city has to offer. Peter the owner, Wendy ( manager ) and Moffat ( who makes such a great breakfast ) couldn't do enough to help you and at the end of our stay here it felt like we were leaving friends behind. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us in every regard and offered advice on transport, directions, sightseeing. Lodge is very close to public transport (MyCiTi) and grocery stores and restaurants. Waterfront is nearby as well. Rooms and facilities are very clean and well kept. Good WiFi. Amazing value if you are on a budget. You won't be disappointed.
• J (10/5): Great experience! Great hotel! - The Altona Lodge was such a lovely experience. I stayed for ten days and wanted to stay for more but they were booked solid which is a testament to their level of service, care and concern for their guests. The breakfast in the morning was great. The rooms were cleaned every day and as a late riser in the morning they accommodated my schedule every day so that I could sleep in. I can't say enough about the staff and the quality of the rooms. The kitchen is very organized and everything is easy to find. Coffee and tea station is set up around the clock so I had many late night visits to the dining area for a cup of tea. Overall this is a five star experience at a reasonable price. I will return to Cape Town in a month and will be staying at the Altona Lodge.

The Altona Lodge was convenient, their entire staff went above and beyond with providing quality service. Wendy was very helpful with ideas for site-seeing, guidance about reasonable taxis, and arranging events for us. Breakfast was good as well. Very reasonably priced -- sharing a bathroom made it feel cozy and homey. We didn't choose to cook meals there, but use of the kitchen was a nice feature.

The carpet was old and very stained, there was dodgy wiring causing loss of power for appliances in our room (took a day and night to get to the bottom of). Also not a good location for people who like to walk around (it's a safe area, but too far to walk to places of interest). Recommend something in the City Bowl area (near Bree St, Long St).

This is a quiet residential area, but close to the Waterfront for dining, shopping, etc. The shared washroom facilities were plentiful and clean. We were concerned about that aspect, but it wasn't an issue for us at all. Breakfast was great. Peter and his staff were first class. I would return, and would recommend to families on a budget looking for someplace warm and welcoming.

• Tessa (6/5): Charming - This hotel is charming and in a location with easy access to restaurants. The waterfront is an easy walk (about 15 minutes) or cab ride away. The staff were friendly and helpful. As a family, we were thankful to have a room with room for 4 people. My only disappointment is that the hotel is on a narrow side-street and parking is very limited. The hotel can't help this. It is a trade-off for the charm of the place and the neighborhood.

When i realised there were no bathroom in the room i stayed at, he refund the remaining balance without issues. The hotel is good value for money but id rather spend a bit more and get an in suit bathroom and shower.
• Sarah (10/5): Knows what it is and does it well - This guest house knows exactly what it is (one-step up from a backpackers) and does it very well. It's not a five-star luxury hotel, but if you expect that at these prices then you may need to re-think your travels! It's friendly, clean and inexpensive. The shared bathrooms were always spotless, with plenty of hot water. The rooms were cleaned every day. The breakfast (which costs extra) was great, and the free tea and coffee was a nice touch - especially on the colder days. I stayed for a week while looking for longer-term accommodation in the city, and Wendy in particular went well out of her way to help me with my search - passing on information, connecting me with other guests in the same position, and even coming with me to see an apartment. I really can't say enough good things...

• Mike (10/5): this was a great experience - I am probably not the average guest I really only wanted a place to sleep I got much more than that. I really liked Altona it is an old building with a lot of character I felt comfortable there. it has a little bit of wear on it but everything worked just fine. the staff keep it really clean and tidy. it is in a very pretty part of Capetown and the building and grounds are quite attractive. I stayed in a room that did not have a bathroom there are shared bathrooms down the hall I believe three of them, they were always clean and available. the bed was comfortable. I felt that i received accommodations and service that well surpassed what i paid for. the staff were welcoming kind and helpful. after a hard day of touring I would go sit in the lobby and upload pictures and chat with the staff and other guests. I wanted to experience more than just the tourist activities. I wanted to know what life is like in Capetown. I heard stories from staff and from other guests about the area and the goings on. They also offer breakfast that is outstanding and they have a laundry service that was a life saver for me I did not pack a bunch of clothing. I left Altona with several new friends, that was one of the highlights of my trip.

• Robert (10/5): Wonderful stay! - Everything was perfect with Altona Guest House. Staff was very friendly and helpful with any request from extending reservations to ordering a cab. Great restaurants nearby and close walk to waterfront and city bowl. Otherwise, a very cheap taxi cab ride away from many locations.

• Alec (10/5): Great little guest house - I would stay here again. Comfortable guest house, easy to come and go with my own key. Staff was great, with that easy South African hospitality. Green Point is a safe area, within walking distance to the Waterfront and the city centre.
• Makus (8/5): Nice low budget hotel in good location - I had a great stay at Altona Lodge. The owner and his staff did everything to make me feel home. There are stores and restaurants close by and the city hotspots can be either reached by a 15 Minute walk or a short taxi ride. I had a room with shared bathrooms, which were very clean. Good access to free wifi. I would stay there again.

• Frank (10/5): A lovely retreat in the heart of CT - A wonderful safe, clean, hospitable family feel lodge - with a fantastic breakfast and within walking distance of the waterfront and many attractions. We'll come back and cannot recommend this more highly - excellent value for money.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Inexpensive and nice - Peter, the host is genuinely helpful and friendly. My room was basic but ok. The breakfast was lovely and my request for poached eggs was accepted. There is a fridge in the room and the kitchen can be used by guests to cook a simple evening meal which saves on eating out. The location is good near restaurants and 3 local supermarkets including a fantastic organic one. It is walking distance from the sea and the V ànd A Waterfront.
• Verified traveler (8/5): - A pleasant guest house about half an hour's walk from the centre of Cape Town. Nothing fancy but staff were helpful and rooms were clean.
• Mauricio (8/5): Just good! - We had na nice stay at Altona. The staff are very friendly and the room is comfortable. For the price we paid is good!
• Neil (10/5): Feels like home and close to Everything - From the moment I got there I was made to feel at home the staff were amazing, the rooms were comfortable and had everything I needed, you can book tours through reception, the waterfront is a 20 min walk and the bus stops at the bottom of the road so it is easy to get anywhere.
• sf tim (10/5): 2nd time around - The Altona Guest House is fantastic! It's located in a great neighborhood in Green Point. The proprietor, Peter, is most welcoming; the Guest house itself is quite pleasant. I'll stay there the next time I visit Cape Town. It books up in advance, as it's such a great value.
