Guest Reviews
- Grace (7/5): Perfect central location with friendly staff and off road parking. - Very welcoming and helpful staff. Room clean. Tiled shower room Tea making facility. Central location and car parking. Mira shower and cabinet door from the 80’s but functioned okay. Slight smell of cooking throughout but not offensive. Some areas a little tired but cleanliness makes up for this.
- Mary (7/5): -
- Paul (7/5): - Helpful staff, great breakfast, free parking The cabins at the back are a budget option standard but not at a budget price!
- Riana (1/5): -
- Henk (7/5): -
- Caroline (7/5): Was comfortable and functional - Beds comfortable , good shower At first appearance the annex was shoddy , but internally the fittings and fixtures were good
- David (9/5): - Lovely hotel with an excellent restaurant
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Donna (6/5): - Girl on at the front doow was polict and happy Mix upnwith rooms / booking and the tv did not work in room
- MRS Travel (8/5): - Hotel is in the centre of town and has private parking which is really useful. Breakfast has a good choice. The bar is well stocked and has very fair prices. The standard room with a standard double bed is quite small We will take a larger room next time.
- Earnshaw (7/5): - We've been before we just like it.
- neil (7/5): - Great location in centre of Dunkeld, bar and restaurant on site, food was nice, private parking available.
- Jean Mary Deacon (6/5): - The location was good. The breakfast was good. The bed/mattress creaked there were delves in it, definitely needed a new mattress . The floor creaked and the shower unit and shower were in need of an upgrade. Poor value for money and not filthy but far from spotless !
- Gordon (5/5): Overpriced. Comfort and cleanliness were okay, cheery breakfast staff. The bread for toasting smelled a bit musty as if - Good location, parking availability. Polite staff. Overpriced. I was accommodated in the annex at the back of the hotel. The facade of the hotel facing the road is attractive but the rear is a bit dreary.
- Mullen (5/5): -
- Alan (7/5): Staff helpful! Annex rooms need refurbishment I feel, and a little overpriced as a result. But OK. - Staff helpful - I left a jacket behind and they kept it for me until I could get back to retrieve it. I've marked this as poor value, but I was staying in the annex rather than the main hotel, so I can't speak for the quality of the hotel rooms themselves - but the annex room, while adequate, was a bit tired and in need of refurbishment, and I think it a little overpriced.
- Katrina (1/5): Won’t be returning for a stay at this hotel. - Location. That’s all really the hotel had going for it based on this visit. Dirty room. Floor covered in bits of stuff and in need of a good hoover. Reception staff didn’t seem to know we were coming and tried to get me to pay them again even though I proved I had already paid through booking.com. From the booking it was a room in the hotel I’d booked only to find I was allocated a hut in the car park. Bathroom was ridiculously small and you could hardly fit in shower then could not dress in bathroom. Booked twin and was given double bed. Wasn’t a problem on this occasion getting double but sometimes travel with my brother and if booking a twin expect to get what I booked. Noisy room as in car park from people going in and out beside window and people in general walking by hut!
- Iain (9/5): - extras like a bottle of water and coffee maker in the room. Style of the room was nice A bit expensive, for what we paid breakfast should have been included not an additional £13
- 1804Ems (4/5): Third Room 'Lucky' - Strap yourself in, this is a long one...
Booked myself a last minute night here (Sat 2nd May) to join a friend who was visiting from the USA and was already booked in. The TripAdvisor reviews are quite mixed so I was a little unsure what to expect.
First impressions of the hotel from the lobby and reception - quite 'tired' and in need of an upgrade.
I checked into Room 204 - again a little 'shabby' and in need of decorating. After calling home I went to use the loo. The door was catching on the floor tiles. The light in the shower cubicle wasn't working. The shower tray was still wet and looked a bit grubby. The heated towel rail was very obviously covered in dust and the floor under it was very dusty and hairy. Out of curiosity I lifted the toilet seat to find that the underside and the toilet rim was covered in, for want of a better description, 'dirty toilet splashback'. It had clearly not been cleaned after the last occupants had used it. Now, I can deal with shabby but dirty is a big no. I went down to reception and showed the Receptionist the photos I'd taken (can't remember her name unfortunately but something unusual beginning with Su). She was mortified and very quickly offered me a new room. Taking the key to Room 203 I took my belongs from the first room and went to this new one... Before I even unlocked the door things weren't looking promising... There were chunks of what looked like plaster on the carpet. It didn't get any better once in the room with plaster chunks and dust all over the carpet. The bathroom wasn't any better with dust on the floor, toilet cistern and seat. There wasn't even any toilet paper. Another trip down to reception... I suggested 'Su' join me to have a look. She was again mortified by the state of the room. For the second time I gathered up my stuff...
This time 'Su' sent me to the bar for a complimentary drink while she went to find me a third room. I was about 2/3rds of my way through a bottle of lager when she came back with my third room key and reassured me that she had checked the room herself. Room 101 was at least clean. Still shabby, but no dirty toilet splashback or plaster dust. The curtains didn't fit the window though.
Now, I appreciate Housekeeping is probably a fairly thankless job however, I would suggest that in a hotel it is probably one of the most essential jobs. To have not just one but two dirty rooms is a disgrace. How many more have housekeeping skipped on?
Melville Hotels need to invest money in upgrading their rooms and bathrooms and tidy up the public areas. Management need to review Housekeeping and ensure everything is being cleaned correctly. I do want to thank the Receptionist 'Su' (again, so sorry to have forgotten her name) who seemed genuinely mortified by the situation and dealt with it efficiently.
I will not be back.
- carolscasa (6/5): Needing an upgrade - Just dropped in for a drink on a very sunny day. Lovely staff but bar and beer garden are a bit tired.
- VH (7/5): Comfortable, good price, well located - Location Room was dirty in places, front of the building needs a clean and some repairs.
- Jennifer (10/5): A comfy night's sleep for a one night stay in the centre of Dunkeld - We had a very nice room, modern but with a scottish feel. We didn't eat in the hotel just because we wanted to try other places. It's well located and did the job!
- kmt6973 (4/5): Note to self - read the reviews before booking - Unfortunately we picked this hotel to go to with friends for a meal. What a mistake that was! We arrived before our friends and found the main restaurant in darkness so we went into, what I think was, the Woodlands Bistro. It felt very like a run down cafe. There seemed to be only one member of staff available. We said we had booked a table for four, he showed us to a table for two, we repeated that it was for four and he showed us to another table, none of the tables seemed to have reserved signs. Our friends arrived. All we could hope was that the food would be ok. How wrong we were! Two of us had lasagne, which was awful, one had chicken which he said was "basic" and one had steak pie which he said was quite good. Three of us had the cheesecake, which was not like any cheesecake I've ever had - I do not mean in a good way. One of us had the frozen yogurt, which he had to break up with a knife - we've had frozen yogurt before and it was more like an ice cream texture. We then asked for decaf coffee but they only had decaf in sachets. So we went elsewhere for a lovely coffee to finish our evening. Needless to say none of us will be going back there. If we had read the reviews before we booked, we would not have gone there.
- Lizzie (4/5): - Location was great, staff were nice and helpful. Very bad nights sleep due to very creaky floor and bed, you couldn't move for making a noise and it carried over from other rooms too. The shower room extractor went on as soon as you turned on the light and ran for some time after, it was also noisy. It only needs to go on if you are showering.
- David (8/5): -
- janicegT5318EQ (2/5): Don't Go - The descriptions provided on the hotel website is not what is provided in reality. It is not a CAMRA bar, the menus is completely different. The hotel is generally shabby and the public areas are not particularly clean. There is little consideration of the individual needs and experiences of guests - we had a young dog with us but were given a room on the third floor as far away from external doors as it was possible to get; overly loud music in a bar where the only people there were middle aged or older. The wine was watered down and the continental breakfast was of poor quality.
- Cvecil (5/5): the location suited my visit but but the issues were not as i expected the staff were pleasant - the staff were helpful and the food was fine the room was not serviced every day, in fact only once, lack of hot water after two days. having to heat water in the kettle to have a wash
- Kathrin (8/5): -
- nathaliemF8795PX (10/5): Good meal - Had a surprisingly good indian meal today. Very reasonnably priced and amazing quality! Service was excellent

- 250jenniferi (2/5): Disappointing stay! - Just back after a really disappointing stay at The Royal Dunkeld Hotel. We got and booked it through a Wowcher voucher. On arrival at the hotel it looked and felt tired and was not the cleanest, we felt it was in need of a good refurbishment. We had a drink in the bar in the afternoon, always had a long wait to be served. We weren’t there long and they ran out of Tennents lager and also Stella lager, both on tap. It left the choice a little limited. We had a table booked in the Woodlands restaurant, dinner was included in our deal. We were presented with an A4 piece of paper inside a poly pocket which had a choice of 2 starters and 2 main courses. Chicken pakora or soup to start, we both took pakora and were given only 2 small pieces each with a cold black looking dip, not a clue what it was but said there was to be 2 different chutneys with it. On to the main, the choice was chicken with peppercorn sauce or carrot wellington. Again we both took chicken, the breast my husband got was tiny and I could hardly cut through mine. The chips and veg were ok but cold, the peppercorn sauce was stodgy, cold and had no flavour. Our plates were taken away and that was it, no offer of dessert or coffee.
On returning to our room, the cold air hit us immediately, the curtains were hanging off the curtail rail, the radiator either wasn’t working or had been switched off, it was stone cold and couldn’t be turned up. The towel rail in the bathroom was working so thought we’d leave the bathroom door ajar to let the heat through but there was an annoying drip from the shower which we couldn’t stop and it kept us awake. The bed was old and uncomfortable, my husband woke at 2am and was itchy all over, it just felt dirty and unclean. We stuck it out until morning but decided to leave without our included breakfast.
Feel embarrassed for the people of Dunkeld, it’s a lovely place and they are being let down by the fools running this hotel. What a shambles. Won’t be recommending to anyone and certainly won’t be back.
- stephking92 (10/5): Great stay - My partner, our dog, and I have just returned from a two-night stay. We stayed in room 108 and although the building looks older from the outside, it’s clear that the rooms and hotel interior have been upgraded. Of course it’s not going to be perfect in an older property, but we were more than happy with our room. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. One person in particular stood out a woman who served us at dinner ,breakfast and also in the bar during the day. She was extremely kind and nothing was too much trouble for her. Unfortunately, we didn’t get her name but she is definitely a credit to the team.
The hotel is very dog-friendly and has a lovely atmosphere. I genuinely cannot fault our stay everything from start to finish was excellent. We will definitely be returning in the future.
- 191PaulL (2/5): Rundown and shabby - Booked a 2 night stay, first impression wasn’t good, and went down hill from there! The receptionist, and the others staff were good, but the place looks like it’s run on a shoestring and very run down. We looked to shower before dinner and there was no hot water. Dinner was okay, but the menu is half European and half Indian, which was an unusual blend. The gent’s restaurant toilets had no operational hand dryers. None of the radiator within the hotel were on and also a few broken pains of glass, so the place felt cold. The room was also cold on arrival but there was an electric wall heater. Again in the morning no hot water, which appeared to be a common complaint with the other guests. We reported it to reception, but didn’t get the impression that it was getting repaired anytime soon, so gave up on the second night and came home.
- sylviak791 (6/5): Birthday gift - Our stay was part of a birthday gift. Staff friendly enough and the bar is cosey although a bit pricey.
Room was small but ideal for a night away and TV is compatible with Netflix etc.
Toilet wasn't the best clean wise. Shower and toilet had not been cleaned thoroughly.
This was a birthday gift and although it wouldn't be a first choice we had a pleasant stay and would maybe come back if we are in the area.
- ronaldmX3126KJ (4/5): needing an over haul Photos of hotel must been taken years ago - only 2 choices starters, main course didnt like any of them was a present for christmas .Shower wouldnt heat up was freezing .Toilet radiator didnt work in bathroom. Floors creaked all the time could hear other people walking about even in corridors .Very understaffed staff there were lovey and run off their feet .Windows need replaced in the room as cracked and mouldy ,Breakfast was ok .Had to wait ages to check in and out .Wont be hurrying back
- Lawrence (7/5): Get the steak pie for dinner. - We Had the best steak pie here, by far the best. I ate steak pie in many different places and this was the best. We were placed in the parking lot shacks. Very small, not nice. If staying here definitely get a room in the hotel, and get the steak pie dinner.
- elliehummer13 (2/5): Worst hotel stay I’ve had - No hot water our entire stay, reception barely ever open to complain, staff didn’t care when we told them. Toilet didn’t flush properly and sink didn’t drain. 2/4 of the lights in our room didn’t work, fan in bathroom didn’t work and had wires hanging out of the switch, mould on window and in bathroom. Coffee machine broken and missing parts. Staff were rude at best. Service very slow and tried to overcharge us for our dinner. STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO STAY AWAY!
- S9520XOkelseyr (10/5): Lovely, relaxing trip! - We stayed at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel from 8th–10th March and had a really enjoyable experience. The room was on the smaller side, but it was comfortable and suited our needs well.
The staff were absolutely lovely and very accommodating throughout our stay. We brought a bottle of wine with us, and when we asked, the bar staff kindly provided wine glasses along with a bucket of ice for our room, which was a really thoughtful touch.
Breakfast service was also a highlight, although we didn’t catch her name, the staff member working that morning was incredibly kind, attentive, and made us feel very welcome.
We booked through a Wowcher DBB deal, and for dinner we were given the option of a set menu or £15 per person towards the main menu, which gave us nice flexibility.
During our stay, we explored the local area and enjoyed walks at The Hermitage and Dunkeld Cathedral, both of which were beautiful and really added to the relaxing feel of the trip.
Overall, we had some much-needed rest and relaxation and would happily return.
- garygI7199IW (6/5): A pleasant stay - We have just returned from a weekend break to the Royal Dunkeld Hotel. After reading some really bad reviews we were a bit apprehensive before arriving but were pleasantly surprised by our experience, possibly because of the low expectations. The hotel is not perfect and I will come to the negatives later.
On arrival the member of staff who checked us in was pleasant and helpful. Our room was fine for this standard of hotel. We had dinner one night and the service and food were good. We had two breakfasts and they were OK.
Negatives were the room was small, but in an old building there is really nothing they can do about this. The central heating didn’t work, or was switched off, we had an electric heater in the room and with no instructions it took a bit to get it to work, but we got there. Overall the hotel seems a bit tired and could do with refurbishment.
The hot breakfast could have been hotter, the ingredients appeared to be low quality, especially the black pudding which, as well as being cold, was tasteless.
I read reviews which gave the hotel one star which I feel is unfair, I was undecided between 3 and 4 stars but went for 3 as there is great potential here if a bit money and effort were applied.
- SAORALBA1314 (10/5): Geat food and friendly staff - Popped into the Royal Dunkeld Hotel for lunch. Good choice on the menu and the food we ordered was hot, fresh and very tasty. Very reasonably priced and the staff were polite and friendly. Was a pleasure speaking to Warwick and all the very best of luck for the future. Will certainly be back again.
- jamesmQ5880WG (4/5): BEWARE - Booked an overnight stay for Sat 7 March.Booked in, receptionist says that's £20 supplement for weekend rates,no we've already paid the £20 supplement
Went into bar bought 2 drinks thought it was dear for the surroundings,as it happened a new manager had just started his first day,I ordered 2 drinks from the manager the price was £2 cheaper, when I asked him why he charged a cheaper price than previous rounds,he spoke to the barman returned and said he had mistakenly charged me for 'local'price and not 'visitor' price.
I was puzzled by this thinking surely not correct since the bar was filled with 'visitors' with a handful of locals.
I do not know who is pocketing the the'visitor' supplement.
On returning home contacted Trading Standards who informed me it is illegal to carry out this practice.
I will await response from the hotel before taking further action.
VISITORS beware check charges in bar and restaurant as patrons charged for food they did not receive.
- David (9/5): - Homely bar, good lager (Innis and Gunn), comfy room, good breakfast May have been a result of the weather, but car park was very muddy and untidy
- Gordon (3/5): -
- stanmH6417QL (4/5): Could do better - Could only give this hotel 4/10 I'm afraid. On the plus side it was clean, the staff were nice and the food was acceptable. However the place was looking "tired". There were a number of cracked windows, the place could do with a freshen up with some paint. The room we were in was small but clean. The shower was so small you could hardly raise your hands in it and I'm only 13 stone. We had to put a couple of cushions at the window to save the cold draft coming in. One of the radiators wasn't working. Mind you I suspect we got an inferior room because we didn't pay the normal price. We booked with the aid of an Itison voucher.
Won't be rushing back there.
- James (8/5): Royal Dunkeld Hotel - excellent place to stay - Hotel was lovely, the rooms were clean and the reception staff at check-in were friendly.
Plenty of car parking space out front and in the hotel car park. No reception staff were available at check out
- K5904LGdavidc (10/5): Thank you! - The hotel and Katherine in particular were very helpful in dealing with a booking issue (from my end!) Everything resolved quickly and professionally
We're looking forward to returning in July
The rooms seem to have be revamped and decorated since a lot of the pictures on this site and are comfortable and fresh
Plenty of parking on site, larger vehicles will find on street parking
- D7820WIclaireh (4/5): Awful food - We ordered food at the bar. I asked if we could sit in the restaurant next door(I use the term loosely) the bartender said it was full. It was half empty! They missed 2 items off our order and tried to charge us. The curries weren’t very warm and tasted like a bad ready meal. The staff were surly bordering on rude. The young lady who served us certainly need not apply to the Dunkeld House Hotel up the road with her lack of customer skills. AVOID!!!!
- claire (5/5): Was ok! - Nice room. Dog friendly, but we kept getting moved for meals!
- Anita (9/5): -
- Susiecat (10/5): Lovely hotel - Great hotel, well maintained. Very clean, room was perfect. Staff very pleasant. Good food. Would visit again.
- isabellecH2198WL (4/5): Very average for £119 room, not as expected as a returning customer - I have been here for a few times and it was alwasy ok despite the age of the premises. I booked a room which turned out to be one of their kabin. The offer never specified it was a kabin, located in their outside annex. The rooms are more basic than the others, windows are old, no soap provided in the shower (despite what was on offer), not as clean as it should be, very small bathroom and shower, basic mattresses and no breakfast included (again not as advertised when i booked). This is an ok stay for one night, but i felt the price was high for a basic accomodation with hidden fees (room advertised with breakfast, but not actually included in that price). I stayed a few times here and this is the first time that i feel the need to send not so good feedbacks. I hope it helps improving the premises.
- LEANNE (10/5): - Very accommodating for the dog.. good food
- T4812VUmichaelm (4/5): Friday night away. - The food was amazing and the staff were lovely. Not enough staff though and the accomadation smelt, was old, and a lot needed repair.also cold
- ANN-MARIA (8/5): My stay was comfortable. The room allocated for us was lovely. My only disappointment is being - I liked to decor in the hotel. The room was lovely. I did not like being charged twice for our stay. The hotel took payment and so did Booking.com. I booked through Booking.com for our stay so that should have been the only money taken in payment.
- Andrea (8/5): Good - Good location, nice rooms
- Ian (5/5): The hotel was conveniently located but the experience was disappointing. - The hotel location is central to Dunkeld. My bed was firm (I dislike soft beds).
The staff were polite, well presented and did their best to help.
The bacon in my breakfast was thick, cooked nicely and enjoyable. My room overlooked Athol street and suffered high road noise due to the single glazed window, wedged closed with cardboard. The room felt cramped, would have better suited a single bed instead of double and the TV blocked the window. I found the bed uncomfortable.
My Indian meal was very mediocre, having a strange flavour and containing quite tough meat. My "Full Scottish breakfast" looked small on the plate, had a cheap sausage and single small fried egg.
The building is clearly historic but appeared to need a major refresh.
- Kelvin (1/5): I feel extremely letdown. - I was put in a room outside the main building that was not at all clean or functional to stay in. I will never stay here again.
- Neil (1/5): Staff and domestic cleaners were not very helpful. Did not seem to know how to tackle any problems. - Lovely old building but needs updating Threadbare carpets and not very clean
- Adam (2/5): -
- Marie (6/5): -
- Matthew (1/5): Fraudsters, Unclean, Dirty - The location and history of the hotel. Rooms were unclean, dirty wine glass on nightstand... Told the front desk I wasn't staying there and cancelled the remaining days. They have never refunded me for the nights I did not stay there. Recent positive reviews are fake.
- Robert (7/5): prima - gezellige bar, mooie locatie kamer had wat meer opgeknapt mogen zijn
- Ewen (3/5): - Hotel never answer their phone
- Leigh (10/5): -
- Anne (6/5): It was a convenient and reasonably priced stay but the hotel needs some sprucing up! - It is in a great location
There was tea and coffee and biscuits in the room.
The staff were pleasant and helpful.
It was not too expensive. It is a bit tired . The bathrooms are old and not spotless. There was no shower gel in the dispenser. One of our party had an uncomfortable nights sleep because of springs in the mattress. It was quite noisy with creaky floorboards from people walking in the corridors. The curtains in the bedroom didn’t fit or close properly. The bedside lamp did not work.
- Phil (7/5): -
- John (9/5): Comfort, excellent. Location was great and was easily accessible to the veenue for the wedding I wa - after an initial small problem the manager was excellent in resolving this nothing needs to be changed. As I previously stated the staff could not have been more accommodating
- Dörthe (5/5): -
- Neil (8/5): -
- Jonathan (7/5): -
- Eilidh (3/5): - We received the key before checking in due to having a wedding Our room hasnt been cleaned, dirty towel in shower, skin care left out and wine left out in glasses and bottle
- KENNETH (2/5): - The location The staff were very unfriendly and the food was absolutely disgusting also the hogmanay party was sn absolute disgrace with the hall being do cold that people had to put on jumpers and the food wss very poor
- newall (1/5): -
- Newton (7/5): - The hall was freezing for the hogmanay dinner had to leave as was so cold
- ANN-MARIA (7/5): New Year in Dunkeld - The decor in the hotel was lovely. The staff were all very friendly. The function room for the Hogmanay Dinner Dance on the 1st floor. It was very cold in that room. Insufficient heating. Ladies sat wearing coats to keep worm. The room should have been warm enough. Not very good.
- M5514OPcarolineh (10/5): Dunkeld for less! - We stayed at the Royal Hotel in Dunkeld over Christmas and New Year and had a fantastic experience. The prices were very reasonable for the festive season, especially considering the prime central location right in the heart of Dunkeld, making it perfect for exploring the town and surrounding area.
The hotel is full of character, with a warm, traditional charm that really suits a Christmas and Hogmanay stay. It’s also very dog-friendly, which made the trip even better for us. We stayed in Room 10, which was comfortable and well located. The food was excellent throughout our stay. To be honest, there was a little wait for the food, but it was freshly cooked, truly tasty, and well worth it — proper hearty meals that hit the spot. The overall vibes and ambiance were cosy, welcoming, and festive, and the Hogmanay entertainment was a real highlight: fun, lively, and well organised.
A special mention goes to our waiter, Rohit, who was excellent and really added to our experience with his friendly and attentive service. While the hotel could do with a little facelift in places, given the price we paid over such a busy festive period, it was more than reasonable and excellent value for money.
We’ve already booked our summer holiday for the 2026 fishing season !
- Darren (1/5): Terrible experience - Location Smell of damp, locals vaping at the bar while you ate dinner, nothing got done about it as the man behind bar could hardly speak English , we were told at reception that the Indian restaurant was open till 8.45 pm to go through to it and was closed , no communication, windows to front of hotel not sound proof and old , so you hear everything all night , we were kept awake till 3am with loads of men and woman on the 3rd floor above us running around talking laughing etc , and can I just say they weren’t British which was abit worrying , think Asian , terrible noise , went down to reception to complain , he said he would phone up to the 3rd floor , but wouldn’t say who they were . Weird , and lastly no hot water for shower , complete shambles of a hotel .avoid
- Adrian (8/5): Great location for a short stay - Location was perfect Hotel looks a little in need of upkeep.
- Alison (5/5): Dismal room in a “shed” in a dark and muddy carpark. - Comfy bed, good location Arrived at 6 to a completely empty reception. Note to say collect key from bar. Nothing open in that part of hotel. I went back outside to look for a bar, and someone having a cigarette must have phoned his boss, as he arrived, gave us a key and said follow the lights out the back. A dark muddy carpark showed what appeared to be old staff quarters where another guest showed us the entrance area around the back which was not at all visible. Not a great welcome. I bedside lamp had no socket anywhere near. Should we have brought our own extension cable? Walls were paper thin, we could hear the other guests both ways. Old bathroom with yellowed plastic old shower, rust and flaky paintwork to door etc , had been revamped with new tiling, but grout was mucky. Not the best room , though the bed was clean and comfy. Certainly not worth £119 for a room in this “annexe”.
- Claire (10/5): Everything was excellent. I would definetly stay again. - Everything. Everything was excellent.
- orkneydave (2/5): Very dissapointed - Went for lunch 12th dec dining room/lounge was empty, sat down for lunch then a member of staff cam into the bar,I asked what the soup of the day was and was directed to aboard on the wall and grunted carrot n corriander so we ordered,he came back 20 minutes later with 2 bowls on a wooden platter with 2 plated of some brown ghu which tasted like some thick very salty curry sauce, took one spoonfull and got up and left, this used to be a nice place to stop and eat but will never return after the lack of service and engagement of vocabulary, not reccomended

- Deli1234 (2/5): Don’t eat here . - Don’t eat here . We eat in the bistro . The meal was disgusting . Reheated food . Greasy hard chips , some of which were actually rotten in my view . Not sure how food like that is getting put out to serve in 2025 .
- Dream06240601243 (10/5): Great venue for good food and drinks - Great meal despite it being a two or three course deal.. portions and quality did not reflect this.. tasty food at a great price.. and the bus was a free juke box 👌
- Lucy (2/5): Fire alarms. - Great location and overall you get what you pay for. Over the course of the stay (1 night) two fire alarms went off and there was a gas issue.
Alarm went off at 2am, and there was no clear indication from staff if evacuation was necessary. I was surprised they allowed the stay to go ahead due to the issues.
- Passport10308130352 (2/5): Royal dunkeld hotel - Wouldn’t go back to royal dunkeld hotel desperately needs a revamp you can feel the dust of the carpet everywhere you go food wasn’t too bad that’s if they had it seem to have run out of a lot of stuff needs a deep clean cobwebs inside windows very dirty pillowcases dirty think if the environmental health was to go in there they would shut it down nice wee places round about especially livvis homemade bakers atholl hotel was really nice went in there for a drink staff wasn’t really talk active apart from a very nice guy called Ben he was really helpful and nice wouldn’t go there ever again to the royal dunkeld hotel
- andrew (1/5): A must not go to hotel - The villiage The hotel dirty poor facilities not enough staff very poor service
- Lisa (4/5): It wasn't great. I wouldn't want to return. - Didn't have breakfast. Lunch deal was good. Initial room in annexe very unsatisfactory. Radiator nor working. No socket for bedside table. Generally dank and unpleasant location. I was however grateful to a staff member who moved us into a better room within the main building.
- James (4/5): Disappointing - Breakfast was good. Bed was comfy and staff were friendly Towels were mouldy. Heating did not work so had to move rooms. Light fitting was not secure. Shower head was mouldy. Spider webs above TV, cleaning not upto standards
- B7913QIbrianm (10/5): Great value - Stayed at the Royal Dunkeld for one night with my daughter on route to Aviemore, the hotel was warm and comfortable with friendly staff, we had a really nice Indian meal and breakfast was good, would definitely stay again
- nataliemelvo (10/5): Great experience! - Spent the night here as a stop over on our way to Aviemore as a family of 3 with our 3 year old. This was great value for what we paid! And the perfect stopover to refresh.
Clean rooms, towels/soaps & body wash provided. Kettle, tea & biscuits and also a coffee machine which was lovely touch! Before setting off in the morning we enjoyed breakfast food was lovely!! Also toast, cereal & croissants available too which was great for our little one. Great service, Great location!! Would most certainly return.

- David (8/5): I got very friendly with the other hotel guests. - Quiet room. Friendly staff. I accidentally left my hot water bottle in my bed at the hotel (room 206) - I am hoping the hotel staff will post it to me (I will of course refund the postage.) Hard to get in touch by phone. Fire alarms that went off twice while I was asleep.
- Alison (1/5): Worst ever will not be advising anyone to stay - Nothing After being outside all day you want to go into a warm hotel it was freezing cold , the food was horrible and breakfast that you have to pay over and above the room was worse will definitely not staying or advising freinds to stay with you !!!😖

- Joseph (4/5): It was a bed - Location No hot food, shower dripped. Toilet paper holder torn off wall and not repaired. Floor squeaked with every step. Not to mention the 2am fire alarm!
