Guest Reviews
- Padilla (10/5): - Buena calidad precio
- Abraham (10/5): - Tks
Y precio accesible.
- Bruce (6/5): - Good location by Mercado 28. Hotel is very clean.
- Jose (2/5): - Not recommended at all!!! Just rented for 30 minutes for a quick shower before my flight took 30 minutes just to check in even though the hotel was empty staff is not trained at all dont know simple process of check in im not picky at all but one of the worst checking process and gave me a room with out ac (got moved to one that did) not hot water!!
- 66Frank1982 (6/5): Chain and Padlock - A bit dingy. Cheap but not worth it. The hotel is near Mercado 28 a good souvenir and local food complex. That is a positive. When I arrived late it took a while to wake up the recepcionist. The front gate was locked with chain and padlock ! Not very good value.
- Emilio (8/5): - TODO BIEN
- Hugo arturo (8/5): - En general estuvo bien
- Alison (8/5): - Absolutely fine for the price - clean, bed, bathroom, air con (once I was given the remote). It was exactly as advertised.
- yacqueline blanco (2/5): - Mala atencion no recomiendo
- Deni (4/5): Not worst to stay - It was cheap to stay, buy i stayed 5 day and 4 nights, but staff didn't clean the room during stay. They were unfriendly, and wifi is really bad. Hotel is located in downtown. However, I will pay extra money to stay in a better hotel.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Only stay if on a tight budget! - This hotel is ok if you are trying to stick with a budget and location was good as near to Ado station and Mercado 28 but you must be prepared for neighbours having a party next door, incredibly loud and old air conditioning units (although they do cool down, but only have an off and on switch that we could see), the toilet seat not being attached, and terrible wifi. The cleaning was acceptable but a dead mosquito and hair was still left in the shower, and under the bed was filthy!
Lastly they look the doors at night to the entrance and you need to ring a bell to get in. We were woken up during the night to someone ringing the bell for about 10 minutes as quite clearly the receptionist had fallen asleep.
- Chun Mei (10/5): - Good location
- La Nena (10/5): - Perfecto para mi estancia. Cerca a los lugares de interés. Bien atendida.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very good location. Close to everything. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was older but clean.
- Carrie1999 (4/5): Has potential. - Not the nicest of hotels, staff does only speak Spanish. Pool is pretty but not clean looking. Market across the street is pretty noisy into the night. Toilet in my mothers room broke a couple times. You have to wash your own cups you get two for your stay. Overall I would pass but it does have a very authentic feel.
- Dennis (8/5): Hotel Tankah is a charming surprise. - Had family business. I am quite amazed how centrally located this hotel is. Every time we went looking for something we found it within a few blocks up to 5 minutes. No exceptions! Restaurants and tourist items. Convenience stores. Banks. Peso/dollar change. Pharmacy. All in the same block. They have locked gated parking. They knock on ur door for wakeup calls. Been before...will be back. No pool. No vending. No refrig or microwave. But at $25...you can't beat it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff is really friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable.
- 242johns242 (10/5): Authentic and Economical - LIked this hotel. Used it twice in December 2018. It's one of those classic concrete wonders from the 1970s. Very basic here, perhaps too basic for many Americans. But if so, that is a shame . . . because it is in an authentic Mexican area of Cancun, very safe, friendly staff, and what I consider to be a great location . . . away from the tourism zoo out on the hotel strip. Walkable to/from the bus station (you do want to print a good map, though, because the roads around here curve lots). Why go to Cancun and just be around other Americans? Why spend $70-90 per night when you can have a much more authentic experience for a fraction of the price? This hotel DOES do something a little strange . . . it takes cash only (Mexican pesos). I booked on a website and, though it appeared that they might charge my credit card, they were honest and did not (I do wish their staff would write "pagado" on the receipt instead of "deposito" though). There's a great Yucatanese outdoor restaurant down the street near the Oxxo. Felt like I was actually in Mexico here. Loved it!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel Tankah is a great value for staying in downtown Cancun. The room was clean and safe. It is about a 10 minute walk to the ADO bustop with bags. On check in the front desk was deserted. It took me 15 minutes to scrounge up someont to check me in. If you don't mind hiccups like that, Tankah is fine for those passing through.
- SibrenaR (6/5): Simple hotel - We stayed here the night before checking in to our all inclusive resort. It is a very simple hotel in downtown Cancún. The staff speak Spanish only and there are no phones. I would not stay here if no one with you speaks Spanish. The hotel itself is clean. For dinner we walked to the sandwich shop next to the Ramada Inn. They were delicious. There are other restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance.
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK for a night in transit - Taciturn front desk had no record of my reservation. I got an adequate room: economical, clean & safe.
A bit of a hoof from Av Tulum/ADO:15mins with bags. If you stay get a room in back for quiet.
- Camaguey (8/5): - Bien
- adam (8/5): - Everything about the hotel itself was really nice. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the room was spacious, the a/c kept the room nice and cool. It's right across the street from a huge market with tons of great food and shopping and the WalMart and bus stop are only about a 10 minute walk. The only negative thing about my stay here was that one night when I came back from the beach there were (no exaggeration) about 50 federal police officers with heavy machine guns in the lobby and outside the front door. They were moving equipment from one of the rooms out to their vehicles until about 3am and it made a lot or noise so i didn't get much sleep. The hotel staff didn't seem to have much to say about it either so it left me a little confused. Otherwise, it was a really nice hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): totally nice - friendly staff. good furniture
- katzy331 (2/5): Dirty and staff ripoff tourists without mercy - DO NOT STAY HERE!!! There are much better options in downtown Cancun than this disgusting dirty and unprofessional place.
We stayed here for just one night as we were coming from holbox and needed to take an early morning flight. Everything went well until the next day when we found that the mattress cover had a brown spot with what looked like fecal matter or something. We didn't make a big deal as we were in a hurry to get our flight at 5am. But then I got riped off by the attendant..
We asked if he could help us get a taxi to the airport and how much it would cost. he said that he could but it would cost me 350MXN and we innocently agreed. Later on I found out that a regular taxi would cost me only 100 to 150 pesos. The taxi driver had gone back to the hotel when he picked us up, so of course the attendant got a portion of the huge ripoff we got. Unfortunately this is how they all get the tourists in Cancun
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic hotel downtown. - Rustic, basic but clean. Good location if you want to stay downtown. Have stayed in better hotels in mexico for less but maybe this is what you get here. Nothing unpleasant but aircon very noisy, feels quite dark, Windows but can't see out. Having said that it's clean and fuctional, not for hanging out in but if you just using it to sleep it's o.k..
- Arno H. (6/5): ok - cheap and clean room in downtown. far from the beaches
- ceetee09 (6/5): Pleasant enough - The interiors are very old, you can see old stains on the ground and some on towels and blankets but overall it was still a clean place! The staff only spoke Spanish so make sure you brush up on your Spanish skills and beware of slow wifi.
눇The location was good enough where taxi rides would range from 30-50 pesos each, and close enough to walk to a couple markets and restaurants. There was a water jug on each floor so we were able to fill our water bottles everyday. The room was a little dark but we were able to sleep just fine. My favorite part of the place would probably be the shower head, it looked brand new and had good pressure! The pricing was great for what they offered.
- kahlosm (10/5): Great price - good location! - It's definitely not in the middle of all the expensive & crowded tourist attractions, which was perfect for me. It's conveniently located near the main avenue Tulum which houses all the major commercial areas, casinos, bars, restaurants, etc. It's across the street from a large shopping-area called Mercado-28 that has a bus that comes every hour on the hour from 12-8 p.m. that takes you to the beaches for $10.50 (pesos) and tourist areas in 10-15 minutes. The room was clean, the staff was nice and accommodating, the water took a bit to warm up but it got hot, the AC worked and the area was safe. For the price of the room I got a great deal! Definitely staying here again! :)
- chechamoe (8/5): Convenient, Affordable, Clean - We stayed two nights on our way out of Mexico.
The room was quiet and clean.
The floors could use a real mopping is my only complaint.
The staff speak Spanish only but very nice.
Cute and yummy sandwich/breakfast down the street.
- Ellimanelliman (10/5): Comfy cheap stay - This place has the basics. Nothing fancy, but very nice accommodations. Heart of downtown cancun you can catch a bus to many of the near by attractions
- evaskor (10/5): Very convenient and pleasant hotel in the historic Cancun - Very affordable, clean, comfortable and conveniently located in Cancun. Close to Mercado 28 restaurants and shops, any bus stop to go to Cancun beach, shopping centers, 5 minutes cab ride to ADO station.
- 722dariuszn (6/5): decent quality for reasonable price - Staff speaks spanish only. Rooms are raw but clean. Good location if you want to visit downtown of Cancun, or if you are just passing Cancun. Private parking. Close to best restaurants and markets of Downtown. Nearby ATM, Exchange.
- OZ traveller 3 (4/5): economy place - The best for the price. AC kinda loud. Sorry, no English.
- vantine8665 (4/5): Good for Overnight and That's About It - I stayed here overnight to catch a connecting flight the following day. The hotel is right across the street from Mercado 28, which is an ok place to look at touristy trinkets, or get a quick bite. Not far from bus station and El Centro, and close to some inexpensive restaurants. Its cheap, old, beds are semi comfortable, room smells a little musty, biut relatively clean. A/C worked well, but showers were tepid at best. I would say good for a night or two at most. Other better options for same or a little more money.
- vantine8665 (4/5): Basic Room For a Night - I stayed here overnight to catch a connecting flight the following day. But it's an acceptable option.
- mogulmaster (6/5): Good price for the area - If you are looking for luxury, stay someplace else. Cost per night is 200-400 more in neighboring hotels so this fit my buget. You better be fairly fluent in Spanish, not too much Enlish spoken.
I found the hotel location and staff are very good. I only slept there as I spent most of my time out and about.
The hotel is close to Parque de Palapas, always something going on there with good food served cheaply at the stands.Maercado 28 is a great tourist trap and virtually across the street. Expect to pay 60% of the starting price, max., if you decide to but anything. Great selection of handcraft and hats amid all the landfill...
- TOUFIQUR (2/5): very bad hotel - i have stayed the hotel for 2 days to attend cardiology at cancun 2014 in Marriot Casamagna hotel and resort. this hotel has no lift but it is 4 storied building. wi fi condition is poor. front desk staffs are not well co-operaed. it is far away rom airport.
- Merpcicl (10/5): Worth staying - Next to the market 28. Walking distance to the main bus station (though you will need directions)
Took the bus to the hotel zone for 75 cents which was well worth not spending tons of money for all inclusive .
- Mesogeios (8/5): Good online rates - Booked through hostelbookers and it came up to 180 pesos for 2 people. The official rate posted behind the reception desk is 500 pesos though. There's no way I'd pay that much but then again hostels and hotels in Cancun are way overpriced -and I know what I'm talking about as Ive travelled all over the country. Room had a musty smell as we walked in but went away once the (noisy) aircon was turned on. Room was spacious and had a tv although we didn't really use it. Hot water took a bit too long to come through so you have to leave the water running for several minutes, which is a waste. Daily housekeeping. Overall had a good experience and for 180 pesos cannot go wrong! You also get a complimentary local phone call.
- stravancer (8/5): Good Value for Money - This is a much better choice than staying in a dorm. I booked thru hostel bookers incl basic breakfast for unbeatable 230 Pesos for 2 people. We got a big room, a/c, free water and good wifi is everywhere. The official price at reception is much higher but they still agreed on the same rate when we returned back to Cancun. Don't expect a luxury room, but its clean and ok. Would go there again. Taxi from ADO Busstation is 40 Pesos. Take a taxi when with luggage, otherwise walking is fine. Area is safe.
- karachi-toronto (8/5): Very comfortable stay at Hotel Tankah Cancun Centro - I stayed at the hotel Tankah from October 26 to November 5, 2013 and had a very pleasent stay. At the rate offered the hotel has very good amenties to match such as A/C, Hot water, bottled water, TV (only Spanish) and telephone. Housekeeping is very prompt so you will have clean sheets and clean room everyday unlike other hotels who do housekeeping every 3rd day. I am happy to report that there were no bed bugs. Staff is very friendly especially Marie (please leave her a good tip for all the hard work she does). There is reasonably inexpensive food around and at Mercado 28. You can walk or take a taxi to the ADO bus station.
- Mike_BL1 (8/5): Good accomodation in center of Cancun - We were in Cancun during the rain period and Hotal Tankah has all necessery for us, clima, big rooms with equipment according to price and good services with them together position in the center near the ADO and market Mercado 28, close from pub and restaurants. Best deal for private tourists and private fiesta... explore it.
- Texastourist78704 (6/5): Off the Tourist Path - This is a very basic hotel catering to Mexican travelers. It is far from margaritaville, but very inexpensive, very clean, and serves breakfast in the courtyard. If you are not going to Cancun to stay on the beach, are en route elsewhere or want to see more of the real city than the tourist version, this is an excellent value. The rooms have air conditioning. There is a good taqueria nearby, and a market across the street, but no nightlife in the area. Keep in mind that when you book through a service, you are booking a reservation, and must pay when you arrive - it will not be charged to your card. Their credit card machine was broken, so we had to pay cash.
- special_j25 (8/5): Adequate for a night's stay - My partner and I stayed in this hotel for one night in Feb. 2011. Our flight arrived in Cancun in the evening and we were planning to head out of Cancun with our rental car the next day. We are budget travelers who are pretty much the polar opposite of the Cancun hotel zone type so our expectations aren't super high.
This is a comfortable, basic, clean hotel; it doesn't have a lot of frills, but at approximately $30 a night it was fine. The only negative thing I can report is that I found the bed too hard to get a very good night's sleep on. Otherwise, it was fine- the staff were friendly (my partner is Mexican and we are both fluent in Spanish, so that probably helped); our room and bathroom were very clean; our room was spacious and had cable TV; there was free secure parking for our rental car; and we were across the street from a market area that had restaurants and stalls with lots of stuff for sale. We did see some guests eating in the common dining area in the morning (it looked like a free continental breakfast) but we preferred to head across to the street to some of the market stalls for breakfast.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel for a long-term stay, just because the location isn't very interesting, and the beds are terribly comfortable (at least ours wasn't). But for one night, it was fine.
