Guest Reviews
- jchilcoat (10/5): Another wonderful week at Xanadu - This was our fourth stay at Xanadu and it just keeps getting better. Communication prior to arrival is prompt and helpful. Customer service at the resort is so personalized and all the staff are warm and friendly. The resort planned excursions and scuba diving for us as well as made dinner reservations. Suite Number 1 with the beach as your front yard was perfect for our family of 4 with 2 adult children. Xanadu is a quiet oasis by the beach !
- K2691FYlindseyh (10/5): We love Xanadu! - Our family of four stayed at Xanadu and we couldn’t recommend this wonderful spot more. Where do we start?! The team - everyone was amazing but we spent the most time with Kaira who worked so hard to book the excursions our family wanted to experience (through Searious Adventures - also amazing!) that worked for our schedule while on San Pedro. We love Kaira!
We also loved chatting with Winston each day and he made the freshest, most delicious mojitos we’ve ever had - and the kids’ favorite virgin daiquiris 😊
The property itself is so clean and well cared for. It is quiet, relaxing, and feels like a deep exhale as soon as you arrive.
The pool is a peaceful oasis with options for shade and sun. The location is perfect - not right in the hustle and bustle of town, but just close enough for a quick golf cart ride or (complementary!) bike ride.
10/10 recommend Xanadu
- Kieler (9/5): - The location was great. The resort is amazing and the pool is just what we wanted. That you cannot swim in the ocean in front of the resort, but that is most of the water front of Belize in San Pedro facing the ocean side.
- chelseapeacock06 (10/5): ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT HERE - Would absolutely love to return to this resort again! We had two couples in our group, and the two bedroom suite was perfect! It was super convenient to have a full kitchen in our space, but each of our rooms were delightful. Comfy beds, warm shower, lovely sitting area.
The resort itself is STUNNING. The pool and hot tub make for a beautiful place to spend the day, especially with a bar right there for rum punch when you need it. The dock also makes it easy to be picked up for any excursions.
Every thing is easier because the staff is so incredibly welcoming and helpful when it comes to booking things like massages or reserving your golf cart! 10/10 am hoping to return soon!
- Natalie (10/5): Lush setting with stunning views and phenomenal service! - Beautifully maintained with a lush tropical feel. We loved the jungle feel, right on the ocean! The view was amazing! The staff was fantastic and so helpful about everything! We saw some other properties during our time on ambergris, but we were always happy to come back to Xanadu!
- Laurie (10/5): Everything was great. - Loved everything about Xanadu Island Resort! Quiet, peaceful and clean! Loved having the table by the pool so we could play games. There was 8 of us and we all had a great time! Would definitely stay again!
- garybro2 (10/5): Great Experience - Outstanding boutique hotel. Great service...I am glad I choose this place to stay.
- L1719SQelizabetht (10/5): Wonderful stay! - Beautiful resort! The staff were so friendly and helpful. Located very close to the main town and close to lots of local places to eat. It was very convenient to book the golf carts though them. We had the ocean view suite and it was gorgeous!! Very large and spacious with everything you need. Very clean! Definitely worth the price. Would definitely return in the future. It was a wonderful, quiet, and peaceful getaway with a beautiful property.
- William (9/5): An oasis in the middle of San Pedro - Despite the busy activity on Ambergris Caye Xanadu hides in a quiet zone isolated from the bustle. The property is older and sits on a large parcel of land. The pool is large enough to enjoy and cool off in but held at a very comfortable temperature. Most rooms are situated so as to provide privacy. Very nice and classy place with an old school Belizean feel. Our suite had two levels with a narrow winding staircase required to get to the two bedrooms. It was a bit difficult to go up and down but it also added a very classic and beautiful piece to the room. Just need to be careful.
- rebecca_robbins (10/5): Stunning resort. - Stunning resort with attentive staff.centrally located with a private pier. Complementary bicycles, snorkeling gear and paddle boards.
- E3692KDdorothys (10/5): Beautiful, quiet and relaxing resort - This resort is absolutely fabulous. Friendly, helpful staff, amazing apartment with all amenities and fantastic pool and gardens and right on the beach. It is an oasis of calm and quietness away from the streets full of golf buggies and mayhem. Not really our sort of place but we so enjoyed Xanadu. Very good snorkelling trips were arranged by the resort. It is the best place to stay on the island.
- 0498sheilas (10/5): Excellent Boutique Resort - My husband and I travelled to Belize with my sister and brother-in-law, whose parents had recommended Xanadu. We are so glad that we stayed at this boutique resort. From the moment we contacted them, their concierge service was exceptional. They promptly lined up airport pickup, domestic flights, tours, and local experiences. When our original flight was cancelled and we were rebooked they adjusted times accordingly. The resort is a short distance from the airport and yet away from any noise of town. We stayed in a two bedroom ocean view villa which was spacious, beautiful, and excellently equipped for an "at home" feel. We bought some food at the local market and made ourselves breakfast most days in our full kitchen. There is an amazing coffee house nearby if you don't want to make coffee in your room. The property is very private, clean, well designed, and extremely comfortable. The pool was heated which was quite welcome because there was a strange cold snap while we were in Belize. After a long day snorkeling we loved to visit the hot tub. Like the other resorts, Xanadu has a sea wall with a beach on top of it. There was always a chair available on the beach and by the pool. The water is a beautiful blue with a nice sandy bottom. We had purchased the sand and sea package which included a private chef experience. What a treat to have local chefs come to our apartment and cook a meal. We even had delicious left overs for the next day. Another day we purchased chicken and we could BBQ it right on site. As for our tours, Xanadu partners with Belizean tour guides who are professional and very knowledgeable. The tours were fun and meaningful. Our package also included two days use of a golf cart and although the main part of town is within walking distance, it was awesome to have the golf cart to drive out the Secret Beach and to drive around San Pedro. We found the food in Belize to be healthy, fresh, and good value. While Xanadu does not have their own restaurant, their sister hotel is next door and provides a top notch select menu for most of the day. This food can be ordered at Xanadu's bar with the excellent bartender, Winston. One night Xanadu hosted a beach BBQ which was cooked onsite and was delicious. We walked the whole beachfront and honestly, Xanadu's location, size, and incredible staff made it the perfect resort for us. Thank you Jessica and all the other Xanadu staff members who were so welcoming and helpful.
- tanyae723 (10/5): It's a Spinal Tap 11 !!! (A-MA-ZING!!!) - Can't say anything bad. The staff were wonderful and customer service was amazing. From booking to the actual experience I would rate it an 11 for sure!!! I would stay here again in a heart beat and recommend it to others who decide to visit the island. We felt like we were in our own little jungle paradise even though we right on the edge of town. A-MA-ZING!!!

- P6426OZlisam (10/5): Fantastic time at Xanadu!! - Xanadu Resort is absolutely beautiful, even better than the pictures! Quiet, peaceful, and a little bit luxurious. Perfectly heated pool & hot tub (open 24/7), kayaks, pier for ocean swimming, beach BBQ, bike rides...never ran out of things to do. Best part was the amazing staff - Lelo driving us to restaurants, Winston making us drinks at the bar, and Kyra & Kaneisha helping us arrange snorkeling tours and golf carts. We usually stay in AirBnbs, so it was a real treat having such friendly staff going the extra mile to make our stay perfect. We had an oceanfront room with lovely views and just the right amount of shade. The only thing I would mention is the spiral staircase leading up to the bedroom. It wasn't a problem for us, but others might find it challenging. We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay here when we return to Belize!
- NicholasG342 (10/5): Deservedly popular - You need to book well ahead here, as there are many returning regulars to fill up the place. They are attracted by the rooms set in the gardens, swimming pool, beach and for us the freely available SUPs and kayaks. Note that there are no leashes for the boards, which is a bit of an omission because although you are protected by the reef, the wind can produce some swell and there is also boat swells to pitch you off the board, when you then have to swim after it as the wind takes it away!
There’s also some yoga mats to borrow.
The reception staff are very helpful with planning trips, useful as it’s not always easy to book stuff locally.
The location is also great with a short walk along the beach into town
- HampshireIcicle (10/5): Gem of San Pedro - This hotel is faultless! Great stay, welcoming and helpful staff and convenient location.
We had studio 4b which was huge but had everything we need.
Short walk to the main town both along the road or beach path but was pleasant and welcome.
Hired a golf cart for a couple of days to explore. Overall a gem!
- Traveler749954 (10/5): Highly recommend! - Would highly recommend Xanadu resort! The staff was so friendly and very accommodating. They organized our excursion, booked our flights to and from Belize, and booked a golf cart for us. The resort was very clean! We loved our room, bed was very comfy! The area felt very safe. We will stay here again.
- Sacramentotraveler7 (10/5): Have never considered staying anywhere else in San Pedro - We found this resort when we first start looking at visiting Belize about ten years ago. We booked a ocean front loft and absolutely loved it. We have stayed here a few times since including twice this year. You couldn't find a friendlier or more helpful staff anywhere. The rooms are excellent and reasonably priced. We were a little concerned as it changed ownership earlier this year but it appeared to be a seamless transition. Same employees and same great vibe for the entire stay.
- debbieaseman (10/5): Wonderful resort! Excellent location-beautiful surroundings! - We spent December 2 through 10 in Belize-the first half inland and the 2nd half on Ambergris Caye at Xanadu-it was amazing! Beautiful accommodations-great balcony, full kitchen, 2 full baths a king bed in the loft and queen downstairs and air conditioning! Staying in US hotels I was amazed at the quality of the towels-weird comment I know -but noticeable!Great location-you could walk to many places without a golf cart. And walking up the beach was even easier. Nice bar with Winston to answer any questions you have. They also have onsite laundry for a small fee if you need it! My husband loves to fish and packed his rod and fished off the long dock-get some sardines -and caught us lunch! There are ample beach recliners and a wonderful pool and hot tub too. Our snorkel guides even picked us up directly from the dock to go to Hol Chan. Loved it and would go back in heartbeat! Everyone is so friendly-best meal we had was Snook at Bluewater Grill-delish!

- zprikryl (6/5): Family vacation - Nice boutique hotel in the town of San Pedro near the San Pedro Express water taxi terminal. We had 2BR, 2BATH apartment with living room and kitchen on the ground floor. The apartment was dark, and we used lights during a day. Some noise from the unit above. I recommend getting unit upstairs for that reason and maybe more daylight. The hotel has nice heated small pool and jacuzzi. The beach is not good for swimming - as it is the situation for the most of all Ambergris peninsula. There is only 1 beach for swimming in all area - Secret Beach 1 hr. away by golf car. Xanadu does not have restaurant, only small bar.
- K965WUchristianf (10/5): Wonderful family vacation - We had an amazing family vacation the staff was wonderful. They helped us book all tours we wanted to enjoy. Highly recommend you plan your next vacation here!!
- richard (10/5): Awsome place to stay in paradise. I go there again in a minute. - Location was great, needed a golf car to get around but that's fine and part of the fun. On the beach with terrific views, very lush tropical setting made it seem very private. The suite was really well stocked and comfortable, clean and modern. Great for a night in if you want, had all cooking items you would ever want, blender for cocktails and lovely outside our area. Pool area was really lovely, the dock was awesome for an evening drink. Staff were great, shout out to winston. The suites were spaced out just right for privacy , but could socialize if you wanted. Plenty of supermarkets nearby in easy walk ( 2 mins max). Bathrooms were a bit small, and water pressure not great. The bed was too short for me(6ft).
- 829tedm (10/5): Everything we could hope for - Spent a week here recently and the place exceeded our expectations. Beautiful, clean, 2 bedroom unit. Large pool with shady areas from the numerous palm trees. Excellent bar service. They took care of tours, snorkeling and our plane ride back to Belize city. Everyone was friendly and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. It’s out of the way just enough to avoid the his to Lenox town, yet only a 2 minute golf cart ride to stores, restaurants and bars. Would stay there again in a minute.
- Guide283809 (10/5): Tranquility, Nature, Beach, Seclusion and Service - I can’t wait to get back. I loved this place. It’s peaceful and very tranquil.
If you are looking for a boutique resort with an absolute gorgeous atmosphere and a great staff, this is it. It feels like you are staying in the jungle, away from all the hustle and bustle but still in the middle of town. The location is excellent, everything you need is walkable. The architecture of the rooms and the cleanliness of the whole resort are wonderful. The restaurant at their sister resort, Villa Abrazos next door was phenomenal. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in the last 6 months of all my travels. It is a must do.
If you’re looking for tranquility, nature, beach and a secluded place to stay, thats in the middle of town, this is it!
- GAdarrenk (10/5): Outstanding experience at Xanadu. - Xanadu is an outstanding resort with an amazing staff. I stayed here in August and did a week of fly fishing for Permit. This resort is perfect for anglers because your guide picks you up from the dock right in front of the resort. You also have a full kitchen for making coffee and breakfast early in the morning before each day of fishing. Additionally, there is a water spigot in front of each suite that I used for rinsing my rods and reels each day. Super convenient. Another great touch, was Xanadu providing me with a coffee grinder so I could try the local coffee beans. The booking process and communication was excellent and everyone from the front desk to the folks that cleaned my suite, were really fantastic. I can’t say enough good things about Xanadu and will definitely be staying here on all my future fly fishing trips.
- 3chasw (10/5): Great place with great staff. - Great place to visit. Great atmosphere and the staff are amazing and very friendly, from the guys caring your luggage to the people in the office. They go above and beyond for their guests. Winston is always around and ready to serve up whatever drink you please. Can't beat it.
- michael (8/5): - Great place 👌
- Christina (9/5): Wunderschönes Resort - - Sehr schön gestaltete Anlage, toller kleiner Pool und Whirlpool
- Ferienwohnung sehr gut ausgestattet mit allem, was man braucht
- L8862ESricka (10/5): Fantastic location for scuba diving vacation! - This was our second stay at Xanadu, and it was just as fantastic as the first time! The staff are warm, personable and go out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Only minutes from Belize Pro Dive Center, where we dove every day, and plenty of stores, restaurants (try Blue Water!) and bars, it was the ideal location. We'll be back again!!
- Heather Michelle (10/5): - Staff was amazing. Room was clean. Will definitely be back again.
- Javier (10/5): Great location, clean, friendly staff and very unique place - Great facilities and the pool is amazing Nothing
- emilytO282PK (10/5): Relax in the middle of everything! - My husband and I stayed at Xanadu earlier in August. With all of the lodging and scuba options available in San Pedro, the planning was a little overwhelming, until I found Xanadu. After that, everything fell into place. From the first email to the office, to the minute we turned in our keys at the end of the trip, Kaira, Jesica and Kinesha took care of everything. Connecting flights, ground transfers, golf cart rental, Scuba reservations, dinner reservations…All of it!!!
Scuba diving was a big part of why we wanted to visit Belize, so when Xanadu offered a package lodging/scuba deal, the choice was made. The office arranged all of our dive plans with Amigos Del Mar prior to our arrival. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that all we had to do each morning was walk to the end of the resort pier for pick up. Everything was so easy!
We loved the oceanfront loft that we chose for our trip. The room was spacious and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and having an upstairs bathroom was so convenient (nobody wants to navigate a spiral staircase in the middle of the night😉). While we didn’t really do any cooking during our trip (other than to warm up some leftovers), the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need if you chose to cook during your stay. The living area was comfortable as well. The A/C and ceiling fans keep the space nice and cool. In fact, maybe consider stocking a couple of throw blankets in the linen cabinet? They might have been nice to have around while relaxing in the evening;)
And then there is that porch. It was the perfect spot for coffee in the morning, an afternoon nap, happy hour wine, or a cigar at the end of the day. And even though the sargassum was present throughout our visit, the staff does a great job of doing their best to keep it at bay. They can’t control Mother Nature.
The pool area is tranquil and well shaded. In fact, if you are hoping to tan, you will likely need to venture out to the beach chairs. Bernis and Winston tend the bar with skill. We had some delicious mojitos and punches as well as ice cold beers. They were very helpful with recommendations for places to visit for food and drinks on the island as well.
Overall, we would definitely recommend this resort to anyone traveling to San Pedro. From convenient location to accommodations, staff and general relaxation potential, this place has it all! Thanks for a lovely stay!

- 132skg (10/5): Gorgeous, serene gem - I came here with my sister for her birthday, and it was even better than we'd hoped! Everyone was so helpful and friendly, the bartenders were fun and the prices were reasonable, the room was HUGE and so cozy, the pool was serene - everything was absolutely perfect. They helped us book the golf cart rental, snorkeling tour, anything we needed. We even booked the 3 night minimum knowing we could only stay for 2, because it was so reasonably priced for how gorgeous it is. We can't wait to come back!
- liflvi (10/5): Family vacation - What a wonderful week again at Xanadu !
As usual accommodations and grounds are in excellent condition, thanks to the owners and dedicated staff. Our family has many special memories at Xanadu and this year again we loved every minute from grandkids to parents and grand- parents
This year we discovered , just next door, an excellent restaurant called The Abrazos. Food is surely a perfect blend of 2 cuisines, local and global Caribbean.
Staff even adapted the menu for the children. Beautiful and elegant outdoor dining.
Among the various excursions we did, we snorkeled at Ray City, were able to enjoy wonderful swim in the turquoise Caribbean sea( trip with El Gato), enjoyed the Belize zoo and refreshing cave tubing ( well done Luis from cavetubing. bz / he was a perfect guide who gave us many informations about the habitat).
Part of the trip were delicious breakfast and lunch.
The week went fast and is surely mémorable. Thank you Xanadu.
- Caree (10/5): - Property was amazing! Completely enjoyed our stay as the location was convenient, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was excellent/clean. The nature walk was so incredible and unique - our entire family loved it. Couldn't ask for anything more except that the maintenance staff blasted their music too loud in the morning which woke us up.
- Catherine (10/5): Perfect - Beautiful and lovely and thoughtfully decorated and equipped Nothing
- NicolaB4182 (10/5): Peace, quiet and luxury! - We stayed in two bedroomed accommodation which was wonderful, really spacious, super comfy beds, excellent kitchen facilities, wifi and TV. The staff here are really friendly and helpful and the whole of Xanadu is kept to a really high standard, a lot of effort goes in to keeping the grounds neat and tidy. Its great that you can use the pool at anytime, there are also kayaks and bikes free to use from the hotel.
Its wonderful accommodation, peaceful and quiet, tucked away from the busy streets of San Pedro.

- OnAir24306409379 (10/5): Fell in love the immediately! - I am so glad I took a chance and followed trip advisor reviews and stayed at Xanadu Island Resort! I couldn't love this place more. The landscaping was ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! I got to wake up every morning to such lush scenery. Stayed in the studio room and it was the perfect amount of space for 2 people. Had a full kitchen with everything we needed to reheat food/ make breakfast in the mornings. There is no restaurant on site but there is a food shack called Martha's food right in the entrance that has local cuisine and fresh juice. You can walk along the beach very easily to other restaurants. We enjoyed the Beach Bar and Grill that is right next door that had delicious chicken and rice and stew beans. I typically don't need that many amenities in a hotel because I spend most of my day running around but this place made me want to actually stay in sometimes! It was so cozy and immaculately clean. When I first walked in it felt so relieved that I was staying here for the rest of the week.
The staff couldn't have been more accommodating! They answered every question and concern with so much patience and assistance to ensure I got everything I needed. We had a free taxi to and from the airport. They organized our golf cart rental and helped us extend it. They tried effortlessly to get us a snorkeling trip to Mexico Rocks but we had inquired a bit too last minute. They have tons of excursions they offer at a discount and can book for you. I'm such an A type planner and it felt so nice to be able to relax because I knew they would figure it out for me. The property was so nice I enjoyed spending a full day just lounging around.
There is no direct access to the ocean, they have a seawall but that didn't bother me at all. The sargassum is at bay due to the seawall and I was still able to enjoy the small stretch of sand they had without the seaweed smell being noticable. The day I arrived the sargassum smelled like seaweed and after about an hour I didn't notice it anymore. When it's brought out of the water and sits under the sun it does smell like rotten eggs ( they didn't do this at our place but at places around). Unfortunately it seems like a tireless effort because a person can only remove so much but it didn't impact my trip one bit and I'm so thankful I was able to visit.
Highlights:-free bike, kayaks, and paddle boards (used the bikes when I didn't want to rent a golf cart

-Safe-robes -hot tub that looks out into the beach

-beach loungers with umbrellas
Finally a place where the photos match perfectly!
- JASON PAUL (10/5): - This was our second visit to the beautiful Island & to Xanadu! Never a disappointment!
- J36ZCjulier (10/5): Great views, helpful staff, beautiful pool area, hard to leave! - This is a lovely tropical get away with exceptional service. The #11 Ocean Front 3 bedroom Suite was perfect for our family! The winding stairs to reach this 2nd floor suite and the stairs in the suite to the second level could be an issue for some but it was not for us. The property was extremely clean. The view was lovely from the large elevated porch which had a table and chairs as well as a hammock. There was a full kitchen and they supplied plenty of fresh drinking water. The pool and small beach bar area are just like the photo- beautiful, and there is a large sandy area with chairs and some games as well. The staff were kind and helpful - assisting us with golf cart rentals and massages at a local spa over the water. It was an easy walk to local restaurants for breakfast but to get to the heart of San Pedro you may want a golf cart. During our stay we had an issue with the AC but the staff immediately responded and had it fixed quickly. Would highly recommend
- megrobs11 (10/5): Stay at Xanadu! - We loved staying at Xanadu Island Resort! From the moment we booked the staff was incredibly helpful! They arranged for our flights from BZE to San Pedro as well as scheduled an airport shuttle to pick us up. They helped us book a golf cart to get around the island and we could not have had a better stay. Highly recommend Xanadu!
- AFriedmann (10/5): Hidden Gem in San Pedro - Fantastic ego resort. The staff bent over backwards for us. We experienced the hijacking in San Pedro and they took care of us and had a room ready for our "extended" stay within 1.5 hours. Fabulous!
- Robert Marshall Burgess (10/5): - If you want seclusion, a tropical feel, an extremely friendly and responsive staff, an incredibly clean room(s) and reasonable pricing then this is the place for you. We haven't stayed anywhere else on San Pedro Island, but still believe this has to be the best place there. We just loved it and it is the only place we will stay when we go back.
- Kathryn (10/5): - This property is an absolute gem. There is such pride in the staff in keeping the hotel beautiful and immaculate and the service was exceptional. The location in San Pedro can’t be beat and great restaurants are so easy to get to. There are many close groceries for you to pick up certain items if needed. When we return to Belize…this is where we plan to stay, always!
- SabaRockDreamz (10/5): Beautiful Stay at Xanadu - This boutique hotel was perfect for our six day stay to celebrate my husband's birthday. The grounds are tropical, lush, and absolutely beautiful! The pool is surrounded by palm trees and the hot tub was an added bonus. Every evening we enjoyed a glass of wine in the hot tub overlooking the water. It was very relaxing. We took the short nature walk they have on the grounds that includes waterfalls and lots of foliage, and a rustic bridge to walk over that made you feel like you were a kid again.
Jesica was our resort host at the front desk. She was so sweet and pleasant and was very helpful. She arranged for our golf cart to be delivered to the resort and made dinner reservations for us. Prior to checking out she arranged for us to stay in our room until we needed to leave for the airport and arranged for staff to come and get our bags.
We booked a first floor two bedroom, two bathroom room which was really nice and big and included a full size kitchen and living room. A lot more than we needed but was great as you felt like you were in your own home. The kichen even had a full spring water cooler so we never went without good drinking water and didn't have to buy our own. Sitting in the living room you had a 360 degree view of the outdoors and the water. We had our own little slice of sand with lounge chairs, an outside table and chairs and a hammock to enjoy!
There is a bar on site and the bartender Winston made delicious drinks. There was no restaurant (a few bar-type items though were offered), but this made it so you went out and enjoyed the local food on the island. And the food was Outstanding! We were amazed at the local food choices and how good it was. From Caramba's Restaurant where you pick out your own fresh seafood to be cooked, to Elvi's Restaurant's awesome homemade cocounut curry fish, to the Hula Bar's delicious cocktails and best Empanadas we've ever had.
The locals are the nicest people we have ever encountered in our Carribbean travels and we travel quite a bit.
If you are looking for a beautiful tropical quaint peaceful place to stay, Xanadu Island Resort is for you!
The only challange we encourted was the excessive sargassum on the island during our stay in June. The resort worked on it so it wasn't an issue on our beach, but there was an odor to it. This is not unique to Belize as there are many of the Carribbean islands dealing with the same issue right now.
- Jennifer (10/5): Perfect 3bd villa on the beach! - We had a great experience at Xanadu. I loved that it was on the beach, but also had an in the rainforest feel. The staff's hospitality and service were excellent! They maintained the beach well, one of the few resorts nearby without mounds of sea grass piled up, which really elevated the appearance and experience since it gets stinky. They arranged golf carts and excursions, making all logistics coordination easy. The room had everything we needed, even giving us options for bedroom configurations. Central air made us very comfortable and endless bottled/filtered water was nice to have so easily available.
- christinemO7264BB (10/5): Perfect! - We had a lovely stay at Xanadu. The island itself is very busy, but Xanadu was a quiet oasis. The trees and foliage blocked out the sounds from the street and all we could hear was the birds and the ocean. Everything was well cared for, the employees were hospitable, helpful and knowledgeable, and our rooms were very clean. The pool was lovely and overall we had a wonderful time. I can't stress how nice everyone was. This was our first time in Belize and we weren't sure what to expect, but the resort handled the tickets for tropic air, had taxi service to/from the airport scheduled on time, and made our golf cart rental easy. They also set us up with enjoyable snorkeling guides who picked us up from our dock and made our trips to the reef unforgettable.
- birdalot2 (8/5): Very nice resort but choose the right time to go - We were there for only a few days and we used local taxis, while most people used Los Speed Vehicles (LSFs), like golf carts to get around. This is an excellent place to stay. The air conditioned rooms were wonderful, the staff were very helpful and friendly, and restaurants and downtown were relatively close by (via walking). Two "downsides" to the area: One, San Pedro was experiencing a massive Sargassum (seaweed) invasion. So nobody was swimming, snorkeling, etc. along the beach - not just here but around the entire island. So beware and find out if it will be there when you go. The pool was very nice. Two, in May, the air temperature was 83 or 84 - EVERY hour of the day - 3 AM, 10 AM or 9 PM! I've never been to a place where the temperature did not cool off at night. And this was for the 10 days forecasted when we were there. Again, find out expected temperature when you want to be there. Despite this, I would return but at a different time of year - particularly, when there is no Sargassum and temperatures cooled down a bit. But we had no rain!
- Ashley (10/5): - Barely made it home before I felt obligated to come tell everyone about this hidden treasure! As much we I would like to keep this secret to myself, everyone coming to San Pedro needs to know about this resort. Room are clean, resort is absolutely stunning, great location. But the staff, wow.
- 255kayar (10/5): Authentic, Generous, and Lovely - We are so grateful for the stay at Xanadu - it provided a wonderful home base from which to explore the Belizean islands and a comfortable and peaceful place to rest in between various adventures. The employees were all kind, generous, helpful, and helped us organize parts of our trip as well as coordinated our arrival and departure. The accommodations were perfectly sufficient - we were allowed a change in the room from one king bed into two single beds which was deeply appreciated! The nature and greenery as well as the decor of the rooms were grounding, relaxing, and isolated from the majority of noises. The pool area was generally quiet, restful, and a good place to read and swim. The resort is conveniently located within quick walking distance from a few grocery stores and street food. We had no issues with booking or during the stay. Water was provided and replenished throughout our stay, and golf cart rental was easy. Thank you so much Xanadu!!
- Shelly (10/5): - Xanadu was the perfect place for our family of 5 to stay and we will 100% stay there again when we go back. ALL staff was friendly and more than accommodating. Our 2 bedroom 2 1/2 bath was perfect and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook when we rented out the grill on the beach. They handle all of our excursions with ease. We rented a 6 passenger golf cart through the resort and had a minor issue with it not starting, but they were on site to fix it within minutes. The pictures don't do justice. Highly recommend Xanadu. Oh, and we originally had two twin beds in the kids room but after they say my 3 kids pushed the two beds together, they took it upon themselves to switch them out and provide them with a king bed. They were soooo excited!
- ricketman95 (10/5): Best of both worlds! - What a great stay we had here! From initial arrival with a great introduction to the resort, through every interaction with staff, this was top notch all the way. We stayed in Suite 6 with a balcony overlooking the luscious grounds, pool, beach and ocean — beautiful! Our suite had a full kitchen, living room and two bathrooms which was handy since the bedroom was upstairs in the loft. Housekeeping was great, and they even do your dishes for you! We have stayed in many VRBO / AirBnB’s in recent years, and this was really the best of both worlds (hotel vs VRBO), with resort staff available to help when needed, and a fully equipped apartment to enjoy. About a mile south of San Pedro town, easily reached by walk or cab, or the local favorite — golf cart rental! Within about a hundred feet of the resort entrance are two grocery markets, a wine store, and a great bakery / breakfast place. Highly recommend!
- CSTAN26 (10/5): Xanadu Rocks! - Great location, impeccable service, and a wonderful vacation all around. Xanadu was perfect from start to finish for our group, and we hope to go back when we visit San Pedro on our next trip to Belize. The staff represent - truly - some of the best, if not the best, customer service I've ever experienced with a resort. Coordinating our excursions and local flight logistics were all a breeze. The resort itself is close enough to the main part of San Pedro (we rented a golf cart - this is a must, in my opinion), but it was distant enough to feel like its own secluded slice of paradise. We coordinated all of our activities through the office - scuba, ATM caves, snorkeling. Take advantage of them - but do leave some time to relax by the beach with a delicious concoction from the bartender, Winston! He's the man.
- sarahmK4793BN (10/5): Relaxation Vibes! - What a relaxing location! We stayed here for our 8 year wedding anniversary for 12 days and loved it! Safe, quiet, comfortable, ideal location and THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE! The staff went out of their way to find us a french press for coffee, they always greeted us with a smile, and gave fantastic recommendations for dinner. We went on two guided fishing trips while here, arranged snorkeling through Xanadu, fished from the dock and rented our cart from the hotel. Enjoyed cocktails, relaxing around the pool and in our private hammock on our decks We loved the jungle feel Xanadu has with the tree growth and shade while relaxing by the pool or front ocean side. Worth paying more for an ocean view- it’s just breathtaking! Thank you Xanadu staff- we’ll be back.
- F5145QSdavidm (10/5): Xanadu is a beautiful and relaxing oasis - After a short flight on Maya Air from TZA municipal airport in Belize and a quick taxi ride weaving through a sea of golf carts down a cobblestone road, we arrived at Xanadu: an oasis of beautiful tranquility. Our tension evaporated as we were warmly greeted by the attentive staff. Winston offered us a complimentary beverage and was helpful with local expertise. Also, Kenisha provided us with friendly advice and tips regarding the various excursions available, as well as, very good eating options.
We especially enjoyed the Truck Stop and the Blue water Grill. Next door at the casual Beach Bar & Grill, we enjoyed our open air meals and enjoyed the pool tables and tvs.
We walked around the area the first couple of days since there are two local markets to get groceries and a great breakfast place, the Baker. But once we rented golf carts, we headed north for more action.
Our suite was clean and well stocked with everything from coffee makers to ice blenders. We took advantage of the clean pool and hot tub and enjoyed their friendly house cat, Dino.
We highly recommend Xanadu in San Pedro, Belize.
- 287debv (10/5): Relaxing stay at Xanadu - My wife and I just got back from a week at Xanadu. What a wonderful experience. The entire staff were friendly and accommodating. The resort booked 3 reef fishing trips for us with Ramon. He put us on fish every day. We could not have been happier with our stay.
- Jacob (10/5): - Everything was amazing. Thank you very much!
- ViajesDaniel123 (10/5): Truly a relaxing island life location. - The staff was friendly and helpful. The rental was clean, spacious and well stocked. The grounds and pool were immaculate. Easy walk to supermarkets and restaurants. I felt safe the entire time. Easy access and advice to booking excursions, golf cart rentals and flights to the mainland. Important note: There is no beach access. You can swim off the deck in the ocean.
- Brandee (10/5): Exceptional -
- mantru (10/5): Lovely small boutique hotel, relaxed atmosphere and friendly&helpful staff. - We had a great stay at Xanadu for 4 nights at the start of our holiday. We managed to get an earlier ferry than expected and my phone wasn't working initially so couldn't let the hotel know so we just grabbed a taxi (rather than free pick up). Our room was ready on arrival and we were greeted with a very welcome cocktail plus given lots of info about restaurants etc.
The staff were all really friendly and helpful throughout our stay and were on hand to book trips, make dinner reservations, book taxis etc. We booked an excellent snorkelling trip, it seemed competitively priced and the boat picked us up from the hotel's pier so really convenient. The guide was excellent ensuring we all had our masks clear and on correctly and was amazing at pointing things out and giving info on what we were looking at. We saw everything we had hoped to including rays, sharks and turtles.
We had a ground floor room, near to the bar and pool, which initially I thought might be noisy but it wasn't. No noise from the room above either (however not sure it was occupied during our stay). I liked that we had a kitchen so could do simple breakfasts and snacks. My teenage daughter was on the sofa bed which she found very comfy. The room was cleaned every day. There was unlimited fresh water. Access to fresh beach towels every day. It was lovely to sit on the patio in the evening and my daughter loved chilling in the hammock.
The pool is on the small side but perfectly adequate for the amount of guests. It was never too busy. It was great that it could be used anytime and was lovely to take a dip in the evening or relax in the jacuzzi (I did spot a scorpion on the decking at night so don't walk barefoot in the dark!).
Location was ok with some shops and restaurants nearby but taxis or a golf cart are really needed to get about. We hired a golf cart for a couple of days and would recommend doing so - it's a bit of a novelty which my daughter enjoyed but also gave us the freedom to explore.
Overall a great stay and would definitely recommend.
- 668jennh (10/5): A great getaway for families with kids - We had an absolutely lovely stay at Xanadu with our family of four (kids age 9 and 11). A sweeping view of the ocean greeted us every morning, and the property has a most lovely, serene vista from their coastline and poolside loungers. Who doesn't love soaking in the view from a hammock strung between palm trees?
For those making tough choices about where to stay - I would recommend Xanadu for families with young kids, those interested in a smaller/quieter feel, and for those looking for an affordable - value for dollar - price point (which allowed us to do all the snorkeling and sailing activities). If you want luxury, there are some amazing resorts on the island, but they will be much larger and more populated. If you want to be "seen" at the pool, I'd probably look elsewhere.
Our hotel room was very clean and cared for every day. The bathroom is a little dated (e.g., older jacuzzi tub), but again very clean and had everything we needed. Kitchen appliances worked very well for our purposes (simple breakfast in the morning and reheating food in the evening). We chose a ground floor room for its view, but note that there are upstairs guests that can be heard when running or playing.
This seems mostly a family spot and one that is especially appropriate for young children. The pool is small, but serves it's purpose if you are the type to dip and lounge. The bar is great! (Thanks, Winston!)
There is no restaurant on site, but we found good options within walking distance, as well as a small grocery store. The location of the hotel is a bit south of the heart of the action, but this also means it is a quiet getaway. There is no "beach" to wade into from the property, but this is true of most hotels along this side of the island (it's just a natural feature). That said, kayaks, paddle boards, etc. are free to check out and access to the water is easy in that regard.
We booked a golf cart and a couple of snorkel trips through the hotel, which was a great idea. Price point was competitive and all of our tours were private! Boats are able to pick up and drop off directly at Xanadu's private dock.
Staff were ALL very kind and very helpful. They made great recommendations on things to do and tours to book. They were always ready to help us call a taxi or arrange a golf cart rental.
Thanks for a great stay, Team Xanadu!
- Heather (10/5): - This place is wonderful. Quiet in a busy area. Felt completely safe, comfortable and the staff are all excellent to work with. Rooms have all you need and little perks like free bike or kayak use. We were here for my daughter’s birthday and they had a great treat to help celebrate. Would recommend.
- Dave (10/5): All the staff at Xanadu were so wonderful it made our stay at this lovely resort even better.we will be back next year f - Lovely quiet location where you feel so close to nature with all the trees and plants. WiFi at the pool was excellent but unfortunately not very good in our room.
- N9071BFmariam (10/5): Excellent family friendly resort - Love this resort. Kids had a blast in the swimming pool. The staff were super helpful - from airport pick-up, gold cart rentals, to planning excursions, etc. And the water excursions pick you up right of the dock, so everything was so convenient.
- jeffpf86 (2/5): Owners are rude ( staff is great ) - The owners ( not the staff ) were pretty rude to us . Left a sour taste in our mouth , outside of that the place is as advertised and run well . Just don’t expect any sort of accommodative owners or management that will solves issues when there is a problem.
- jennifercE3385UC (10/5): Private villas in nature, a MUST stay! - We stayed here with multiple families and it was perfect! Everything is right there, you don’t have to go far to go to your private villa, to the pool, to the beach, and back to the bar! We had the best time doing the excursions they set up for us. The villas are well stocked with everything you need including filtered water dispensers. We even grilled some chicken on the grill outside on the beach. Free use of paddle boards, kayaks, and bikes! We also rented the golf cart through the resort and they did everything for us! 1000% recommend staying here!
- Yolanda (10/5): Amazing - Such a beautiful resort with helpful and attentive staff that go above and beyond.
- liflvi (10/5): 5 wonderful days. - We never ceased to be amazed with the quality of service from the staff and owners at Xanadu.
We always enjoy the beautiful kept grounds and pool.
We cannot wait to come back … with all our family this summer.
Thank you all for always making our stay EXCEPTIONAL at Xanadu.
- 867denef (10/5): Beautiful Resort - We just spent a week at this beautiful resort. The plush gardens, amazing quiet beach, friendly staff and comfy and clean room made our stay perfect. The location is close to the grocery store and local restaurants. Winston went over and above when he cooked the fish we caught at an excursion.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melanie (10/5): Hidden Gem - This is one of the reviews that you hate to say something good about because you wanna keep it a secret so you can return. But they deserve for everyone to know how amazing they are! What incredible service, definitely five star!
- naterL3284CL (10/5): Great stay! - Such a great place to visit. Facility was clean and well maintained, the beds were comfortable, the staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. Highly recommended this awesome place. If you are looking for a beautiful place to get some R&R this place definitely should be considered. Hope to visit again in the future.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- cgonu (10/5): Book now! No regrets! - This resort was just perfect. Although it looks remote and is very quiet and serene, you’d never guess that just outside the entrance is a store, bakery, fruit stands and a supermarket. There is no better location. Literally 5 minutes to the airport and town. The resort will book your airfare and golf cart for your stay, plan all your tours and even order in your food for you. I have never stayed anywhere with such outstanding customer service. From the office staff to the bartender and security you will be in safe hands. Do not hesitate to book your stay here. We stayed in a studio, #4 and my brothers family stayed in the two bedroom two bathroom unit, #1. Both were beautiful, comfortable and steps away from the pool, beach and office. The bed was also very comfy! I whole heartedly recommend lil Alfonse for snorkeling and Searious adventures for your mainland tours. Both were great! I have dubbed Alfonse as the Steve Irwin or snorkeling because of his enthusiasm. It is contagious and refreshing!
- Kaela (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was SO kind and friendly!!! The resort was very safe, clean and comfortable. The perfect combination of luxury and nature. Definitely would recommend to anyone traveling to San Pedro!
- Elizabeth (10/5): Great staff, lovely location and would definitely go back and recommend to friends - It was close to many restaurants and stores but resort felt private!
- Luv2TravelFarNWide (10/5): Great resort if you stay on Ambergris Caye - The 2b/2b condo on the beach was absolutely lovely. The staff here were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The pool is shaded and gorgeous. The excursions you can book thru the resort (through New Day Adventures) were affordable and very good.
The resort is located a short walk from "town" which means it is a bit quieter. And it's very near 2 great grocery store options, a pharmacy, a coffee shop/bakery, and several good restaurants.
Our biggest regret is that although there is a "beach," it is really more like a huge sand box. There's a retaining wall to hold in the beach but you cannot walk into the ocean. Nor do you really want to given the debris collecting along the waterline. NOT Xanadu's fault. Almost all of Ambergris Caye is like this. Came as a shock - we were expecting "beach resort" walk right into the water.
If you're coming to Ambergris Caye, I would highly recommend Xanadu. The accommodations and the staff were absolutely lovely -- for a very reasonable price.
- Daniel (10/5): - Very nice property, helpful staff. Would return!
- Adriana (10/5): - Xanadu is absolutely heavenly. The property is beautiful and well-kept and every single person there was incredibly nice. You feel like you're in the jungle but in a beautiful cozy bed with updated bathrooms, and an incredible heated pool (and I mean HEATED), a hot tub with a killer view of the ocean...exceeds all expectations. Drinks are amazing, just know there is no restaurant on site, but you can easily walk to multiple ones.
- George (10/5): A beautiful serene getaway - Fabulous grounds! It feels like a jungle getaway. The pool, hot tub and beach area were super relaxing. We snorkled a few times and the boat picked us up right at our dock. You can walk down the beach to town for dinner. The staff was exceptionally friendly. The actual units were fabulous too. We prepared some meals and ate then on our large balcony. We would stay here again!
- danielle (10/5): - Amazing 4 night stay. Everyone was beyond helpful. Courtesy shuttle to and from hotel was timely and easy to coordinate.
- Illiana (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent facilities and the best services
- RoseAnn (10/5): - The staff were welcoming and it was a hidden paradise. The accommodations were incredible. We had a two floor suite and it was so clean and comfortable. The staff helped to ensure that we were comfortable and acclimated to the area and how to get around. Plenty of places to eat and venture to. We also did a glass bottom boat ride that was arranged by the resort staff and the boat picked us up at the end of the dock. Incredible!!! We will definitely go back again.
- Lindsay (5/5): Overall unimpressed, would not recommend staying here. - Location is great, just south of town, so it is very easy to get around from Xanadu. Resort is very dated, rooms are very strange sizes which makes them uncomfortable and challenging to move around in. Beds are old and uncomfortable. I am not sure why this resort gets such high ratings, we felt it was very lackluster and we would not recommend staying here. We travel extensively and would not return here. No onsite amenities such as a restaurant. However, there is no restaurant on site. Everything is covered, to include the pool, in a jungle canopy which means everything is shaded so if you're expecting to sit by the pool and tan this really isn't the place to do it.
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely clean and well looked after It’s a shame they don’t have a restaurant or food onsite
- Holly (10/5): - This lovely resort was a dream come true. The grounds were immaculate, the staff was lovely, and the location quiet and safe. We stayed for almost a week with our 7 year old. We had a unit with two bedrooms and a kitchen. We walked to the grocery and bakery, and several close restaurants. There are diving shops in walking distance as well. For a few days we rented a golf cart, and explored Secret Beach and a few other spots in town. We had a private boat tour where our son was able to snorkel, fish, and look for manatees. Thank you for such a memorable vacation!
- Rebecc (10/5): The perfect place that has all you needs! - We absolutely loved our stay at the Xanadu! The property was gorgeous, the staff was amazing and all the amenities were just what we needed for our stay!!
- Stefan (9/5): Superb -
- Amy (10/5): - Amazing!!! I almost don’t want to write this so people won’t catch on to my secret spot (haha) When you first get there you are offered a complementary drank which was amazing. The pick up and drop off service they offer is a major plus and helps take away some of your worry. The accommodations were great ac was very cold and I slept like a baby in the comfortable bed that I wanted to bring back to the states with me :) Everyone is very friendly and the staff is top notch and always willing to help with any questions you may have. We loved the pool and took a snorkeling trip and the captain picked us up right at the dock. The landscaping at this place was truly beautiful iguanas and lizards roam free and just so peaceful even though it’s very close to town but definitely doesn’t feel like it. We can’t wait to return.
- Brian (10/5): - Amazing property but more importantly an amazing staff that goes out of their way to make sure you have a perfect vacation. I can’t speak highly enough about the crew that works at Xanadu. From travel arrangements to excursions to local recommendations they consistently exceeded my expectations
- Hilary (9/5): Superb - Great location and beautiful setting! The staff were very friendly as well. The drinks at the bar
- Lasandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): - We had never been to Belize before and were so impressed by the staff at Xanadu. They were communicative with answering all my many questions ensuring a great stay! We will be back!
