- Tobias_D (9/5): Außergewöhnlicher Game Drive - Sehr schöne Unterkunft mitten in einem privaten Game Reserve. Sehr freundlicher Gastgeber, der einige Geschichten über den "Bush" in den von ihm teilweise selbst durchgeführten Game Drives erzählen kann. Dies hat den Game Drive (neben einer Sichtung eines männlichen Löwen bei Nacht) zu einem außergewöhnlichen Ereignis gemacht. Das Essen ist uns besonders positiv in Erinnerung geblieben. Leider hatten wir kein Glück und die Elefanten sind während unseres 2-tägigen Aufenthalts nicht am hoteleigenen Pool vorbeigekommen. Insgesamt müssen wir einen Punkt abziehen für das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis, welches aus unserer Sicht zu hoch angesetzt ist (auch im Vergleich zu Unterkünften, die wir auf anderen Reisen besucht haben).

- YvonneM. (7/5): Mit Elefanten am Pool - Die Elefanten kamen täglich zum Pool um sich dort eine Erfrischung zu holen und das Essen war sehr gut und lecker. Die Lodge ist sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Mit etwas mehr Pflege, besonders der Außenanlage und z.B. Polstern auf den Liegen am Pool, Erneuerung der kaputten Loungepolstern usw. könnte die Lodge deutlich aufgewertet werden.

- Kirsten (10/5): Most exceptional stay! - This was such a special location! From the homemade meals that were delicious to the elephants coming by the pool and the game drives. I honestly can’t say anything except that it was exceptional and we’ll remember it forever! Thanks to the lovely owners. It might be good to know that the rooms are about a minute walking from the accommodation, but that wasn’t a con for us.

Comida igualmente excelente, feito pela proprietária, de pegada indiana. Tudo muito fresco (apesar das distâncias para abastecimento) e bem feito, excelente!

- Raymond (9/5): - Location is excellent, the veranda by the pool area/lounge/dining room looks out onto a water hole that was visited by elephants, lions, antelope, etc. For this reason you are not allowed to walk to and from your room in the dark. Food is great with an authentic Asian taste. The lodge owner drives the game drives himself and really knows the area, the animals and the local community. Nothing.

De gastheer regelt de game drives & geeft veel informatie. Ook top. Jammer dat de game drives niet inbegrepen zijn, maarja daar zal vast een reden voor zijn.

Die Unterkunft ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet, sehr gepflegt und wird von ausgesprochen herzlichen Gastgebern geführt. Das echte Wildlife-Feeling ist einzigartig: Ein Elefant am Pool, eine Löwin ganz in der Nähe und nachts die Begleitung zur Hütte. Auch kulinarisch wurden wir verwöhnt – das Essen war köstlich. Wir können diese Lodge wärmstens weiterempfehlen und danken für diese wunderbare Erfahrung!

- Kelsey (8/5): Very good - Elephants would come drink at the pool, we saw a multiple different wildlife from just sitting near the pool including a leopard ! Three course meals for dinner and staff were incredibly friendly. Host was amazing, very insightful, and gave us plenty of recommendations for our future travels. Would recommend to anyone that is breathing. Life changing. Air con broke on the first night, but host promptly moved us to a different room for the next night and had the air con unit fixed that same day.
- Sabina (9/5): Cosy bush lodge in Greater Kruger - Mbizi lodge is a nice lodge in Grietjie Reserve. The lodges are nice, they have only 4 lodges on the property. They are a short walk from the main area. Good facilities in the room, a little fridge and coffee and tea facilities. In the main area is the dining room and the swimming pool. You can take drinks from the honesty bar. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price. Breakfast is served in two courses (yoghurt and fruits, egss and toast). Dinner is a three course dinner, which was very good. Gamedrives are not included in the price, you can choose to attend them in the morning and afternoon, it costs ZAR 400 pp per gamedrive. The gamedrives were nice, but the driver needs to stay on the road, so they can't go to animals if they are further from the road. In other reserves we experienced this differently. Please note that check-in at the gate of Grietjie is not earlier than 13h00. They will not let you through the gate if you arrive before 13h00.

- Rusty (7/5): great game viewing at waterhole and friendly staff - teh rooms were really comfortable with great bedding, air con and a fan. they were very well serviced by friendly staff. the giraffes and impala on our doorstep was great. food was fabulous including a fantastic real indian curry. sightings at the waterhole were great. owners very friendly and informative with a lot of knowedge about the animals the game drive is expensive R400 pp every time, steep, especially if you want to go twice a day. sunset game drive we got chips and a beer. some of the outside furniture really needs some tlc, it is falling apart. Drinks were also the average price for a bar and lunch was extra, so factor in an amount for all the extras.

For dinner we tasted ostrich that was cooked in the best manner Elephants and impalas walking around and getting back from evening safari we met hyena close to the lodge. It made our staying with positive emotions that we stayed in wild area Nothing negative. But Don’t expect something luxury. Lodges a bit old. Winter time (June-August) when no any greens around looks not so positive. We’ve got know that evening safari have to be paid additionally just sitting in the car (when check in we were instructed about everything except this conditions)

The shower in the Rondavel was perfect. A good base to include the Kruger Park during your stay. Maintenance around the place. In front of the main building we were welcomed by some very tired looking, chairs. The steps up to the lodge need either to be revarnished or re-installed as well as the deck.An old dis-functional game drive vehicle parked out side.The managers appearance in T shirt and slops, did not really do it for us and he could be slightly more friendly and professional. In the Rondavel the mattress needs to be replaced and the door to the toilet only opened half way.On of the chairs on the little desk just gave in and i landed on the floor. The sound of trains in the middle of the night is rather disturbing.
- N (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible stay at Mbizi, I truly recommend this place for all nature lover, you will have the bests days in your life. First, the spot is incredible, a peaceful view on the bush, with many animals that you can spot by yourself on the pool or terrasse. Seing the elephants fews meters away from you is really an incredible experience. Then the game drive in the Balule reserve is really beautiful with a lot of differents landscapes that you can admire, Bjorn , the owner of Mbizi will share is knowledge and experience with you, while spotting beautiful cats or others majestic creatures on game drive. Thanks a lot for this knowledge sharing have been able learn a lot! You can also go on a full day safari in Kruger, wich is interesting because the landscape and animals are changing from balule area. Then after a beautiful drive game, you will be able to enjoy a truly delicious food, made by his wife Divya. Each days is a different surprised with many different specialities to enjoy a very nice moment in a beautiful environment. The food is truly the same than in a first choice restaurant. Trust me I'm french 😉 My final world will be a big thanks to this beautiful lodge and teams for this amazing experience! Good dinner & breakfast Game drives can be arranged Honesty bar View from the restaurant on the waterhole we did a game drive in the morning but did not see many animals , unfortunately During dinner & breakfast we would have enjoyed some soft background music Not so quiet during the night After dark, you can not walk alone to and from your room to the restaurant or deck area, you need to wait for someone to assist you ( but that's a safety issue of course)

- Erol (8/5): - Perfekte Unterkunft um Tiere zu beobachten. Die Tiere kommen ganz nah, die Elefanten trinken aus dem Swimmingpool. Abends kann man nicht alleine vom Haupthaus zu den Zimmern da es keine Zäune o.ä. gibt und die Löwen, Elefanten und Leoparden einem jederzeit begegnen kann.

Breathtaking scenery, with an amazing pool and stunning views, the lodge provided the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable holiday. What truly set this experience apart was the expertise and hospitality of Bjorn and his family, who served as our hosts. As an experienced ranger with a deep knowledge of the local wildlife, Bjorn enriched our stay with insightful safaris and engaging conversations about animals. Bjorn's family contributed to the warm and welcoming atmosphere, making us feel like part of their own. Delicious meals, their genuine care for our comfort and enjoyment was evident throughout our stay.

- Neta (10/5): Most incredible lodge in Kruger - Most beautiful lodge in the middle of the wild nature, not fenced (which adds to the feeling of excitement, but the owners were very careful and made us feel safe the whole time). The design of the lodge is tasteful, in the spirit of Africa, elegant and calm. The nature around is simply breathtaking, and the most amazing thing is that animals come the lodge pool to drink water. Elephants, giraffes, zebras and more arrived. It's a magical moment when it happens. The room was comfortable, great bed, shower and AC. The owner of the lodge cooks incredible food, every day and every meal the dishes change and they are at the level of a gourmet restaurant. I have no words to describe how special the experience was, I'm so glad we chose to stay at this place, and I wish we had more time (I recommend booking a minimum of 3 nights). There is an option to take a game drive to watch the animals around, we did this twice and got to see lions, elephants, giraffes and quite a few other animals, highly recommended.

- Julian (10/5): Amazing stay close to nature and great food - The Mbizi Bush Lodge is located in the very nature without separation to „the outside“ by a fence. While this felt a bit strange and scary in the beginning it turned out to be a wonderful oppurtunity to see animals super closely e.g. during breakfast or while hanging out at the pool. At all times we felt in good hands with Bjorn, his lovely family and team. All are very proffessional and love what they are doing. Bjorn is a super engaged and experienced guide who knows a lot about the area and other interesting topics. We much enjoyed the safari tours offered in the morining and afternoon. His wife makes fresh delicious menues for breakfast and dinner with a vegetarian option and one with meat. She puts a lot of detail to the selection and the service was good. In general the amosphere was quite familiar at the lodge. We would definetly come here again. Thank you! :) This is not harsh critique at all but might be good to know: From the pictures we throught eveything would be a bit more fancy. Looking back for us it didn’t really matter that it wasn‘t. Just be prepared, that things (e.g. the pool) are nice but not necessarely brand new.

The morning and evening drives with Bjorn are unforgettable moments. We learned so much about the animals and about South Africa. The food was the best we had at our whole South Africa trip. - Leonardo (10/5): Amazing hospitality and safaris - Spend 6 nights at Mbizi Bush Lodge and enjoyed every single moment. Infrastructure is excellent and well maintained, the rooms are spacious and provide a lot of privacy. It is located inside a private reserve and does not have fences around it so the immersion is out of this world. Food is a big highlight here, from breakfast to dinner all meals are delicious and unique everyday. They also have amazing game drives twice a day. For anyone reading this, you won’t regret making a reservation here! Already planning my next visit.
- Suzan (10/5): Experience of a lifetime , highly recommend Mbizi Lodge - The lodge was amazing , far exceeded our expectation. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel like family by Bjorn , Divya and their two adorable little boys who seemed to know more about animals than I thought humanly possible . Divya is an amazing cook , going to great lengths to ensure that each meal was a culinary experience. Her passion for food is contagious, and I can honestly say I’ve never eaten so well. Bjorn’s passion , dedication and knowledge for the wildlife of Grietjie was always evident, not only during each game drive , but also during the long conversations he shared with myself and my granddaughter. My granddaughter and myself spent 2 weeks at Mbizi, each day brought a new adventure, from Elephants visiting to drink from the pool , to giraffes wandering over to the lodge to just hanging out , to emergency treatment of a baby elephant that had been injured in poachers snare which unfolded before our eyes. Divya and Bjorne went over and beyond to ensure our experience was memorable , they even invited us to join them for Mother’s Day Lunch . There are no words to express our gratitude, thank you Divya, Bjorn , Noah and our little wild child Luca. Absolutely nothing , impossible to improve on perfection.

- Ralph (10/5): One of the best hotel experiences we've ever had; a perfect way to experience Kruger. - If there's a better way to experience the bush of the Kruger region than basing your stay at Mbizi Bush Lodge, I can't imagine what it is. Mbizi is located in the Grietjie reserve, a reserve contiguous with the Kruger park itself with no wildlife fence in between. It's a small, intimate lodge right in the middle of the bush with nothing to fence the wildlife out. You'll be as close to the wildlife as its sensible to get (and never closer than sensible). While we were there, Elephants came several times to drink their fill right out of the swimming pool. It was not just thrilling, but also pretty moving to be able to experience these awe inspiring animals so closely (yet safely). The owners of the lodge, Bjorn and Divya, are perfect hosts and an incredible team. Bjorn's game drives through Grietjie, early morning and late afternoon, are always an adventure. He has a sixth sense for finding wildlife and knows their behavior well enough to maneuver into the optimum position to observe them. Divya, meanwhile, provides delicious home cooked breakfasts and gourmet dinners with a broad international range, a real Yotam Ottolenghi of the bush. She's also an excellent story teller with a great sense of humor. She makes everyone feel immediately like old family friends. Lodging is in a set of rondavels a few hundred feet from the main dining and pool area. They provide a nice touch of luxury right in the bush, comfy beds, terrific showers, with the sounds of the veld right outside the door. Kruger proper is only 45 minutes away, close to the north/south center of the long park, so it's extremely well placed to explore Kruger. But we found Grietjie itself to be just as beautiful, with just as much wildlife, so you can do a lot of driving, or a little, and still have a great, wild life packed, bush experience; all for an extremely reasonable price. I can't imagine the more expensive lodges are even a smidgen better.
- Regina (8/5): - located in a private nature reserve, no fences. Excellent food and very friendly owners. Getting in and out the nature reserve is a bit awkward due to long interrogation procedures at the gate.

We especially liked that we got an honest and realistic perspective on safari and living in the nature reserves. The owners take a lot of responsibility and put a lot of work into creating an environment were tourists and the animals can enjoy themselves and be safe. I couldn't recommend it enough :)
- Marcel (10/5): Outstanding Service - Unfortunately, due to the current extreme heavy rain, it was not possible for us to arrive as we were stuck in the storm area. The host was very polite throughout the communication and eventually even made sure we got a refund. That's what I call outstanding service! Thank you very much for that. Hopefully it will work out for the next stay in South Africa, we would be happy.

- Nicole (10/5): Couldn’t be better. - The owners and staff were friendly and Bjorn was super helpful with helping us problem solve when we had a issue with our car. They were focused on making sure that we had a great time and it felt like a luxury trip with an affordable price. Bjorn took us out twice on game drives and we got to see zebras, lions, giraffes, elephants and more. The food was phenomenal. We are vegetarians. We also enjoyed sitting by the pool and watching giraffes from the property. Our rental car company gave us a economy car instead of an SUV. An SUV would definitely be ideal for reaching the property. We had some difficulty navigating to the property, Bjorn and Diviya warned us that iPhones and Apple Maps sometimes navigate to the wrong location.

- Melissa (10/5): Can't recommend enough!!! Amazing stay. - Everything! The hosts first of all are lovely and know so much about the region, animals etc. Even their children know a lot! It's super cozy and a super lovely place to stay. We were chilling at the poolside and elephants just came to have a drink in the pool 5 meters away. The game drives were also amazing!! The host is also the ranger and has amazing stories but also goes to the end to find the right animals! We saw all big 5! That's also up to luck I guess, but also the choices of the ranger. Dinner was also sooo good! Couldn't recommend this place enough! Go here :D Nothing!

Das Bungalow war sehr schön eingerichtet und di Inhaber standen stets mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Ich würde jederzeit wieder die Mbizi Lodge buchen.
- David (10/5): Great lodge, excellent hosts! - This is a small lodge with only 4 huts, so it's a wonderful experience if you want to escape the Kruger crowds. Accommodations are comfortable and well maintained. Food is amazing; home cooked with a fantastic attention to detail. Owners are friendly and engaging. Highly recommend taking the optional game drive with the owner; you won't regret it. Overall a great value for the money!
