Guest Reviews

- Kevin (9/5): We were happy with our stay especially breakfast across the street at The Southern Pie Shop! - The bed had the softest sheets & comforter. I wanted to take our room home with us😊The Inn was spotless. Appreciated the kitchen area for all to use. Stay here if you’re looking for a homelike stay. We’d have appreciated room darkening shades on front windows. Our room was facing the porch and the outdoor light was on all night.
- Crean (4/5): Not coming back for sure - I liked the vibe at first it was cute I didnt like that one of the main reasons I chose the room I did was for the jacuzzi tub and there was a little note saying basically please dont timer which is what puts the jets on, very disappointing another BIG thing that makes me so upset is I know I left a 200 dolllar massage gun(technically my fault) but that the housekeeping staff was not honest and said it was not there when I know exactly where I left it. I left it cuz i was in a rush to get out in time for check out and was focused on cleaning up our room so they didnt have too much work and I left a tip and bottle of wine for them and they still must have took my massage gun because I remember I left it in the bed and jumped out to quickly clean and pack and it could only have been there or in my bags and are not. Very very disappointed in that as we stayed there to save money and that was a valueable thing i use my for my chronic pain.

- Wenske (7/5): - Beautiful historic building in the heart of Grafton. The house itself is surprisingly quiet with charming rooms. We enjoyed a comfortable stay. No staff onsite, we had to call to receive our door code as it didn't come through by email and it sounded the owners are running multiple properties. Not much small town charm in that. We stayed in the junior family suite facing the main road which tends to get noisy early in the morning.
- Stephen (10/5): Charming cozy unique Inn- Vermont Simple - I very much appreciated the cleanliness of the whole house. Very charming old building just modern enough, Thoughtful details, fair price. Strong water pressure, nice to have the common kitchen area (no stove/oven) which has a toaster oven, microwave and a large fridge. My room had a large dorm size fridge and microwave. Everything was great and met or exceeded expectations. Vermont charm in a simple Inn. Good climate control for the rooms. Appreciate the coffee. Bed frames with a center support - toe stubbing hazard! That got both my son and me. (See photo)
- Rose (10/5): Lovely stay and nice to have access to a kitchen - The Chester Inn paid attention to details and was extremely clean. Not crazy about the memory foam mattress but??? Oh well
- Phuntsok (10/5): We’re coming back - Took me back to the 1800s. Felt cozy and vintage. Jacuzzi and fireplace was a hit. Nothing.

- Derek (1/5): - The town is cool. There is other great lodging nearby. I did not enjoy the Chester Inn at all. Room not as advertised. Heat did not work properly. Bathtub did not work. Owner was rude on the phone. Would definitely not recommend. He was incredibly unhelpful when I called. He interrupted a lot and essentially called me a liar
- Svetlana (3/5): -
- Shamarelly (10/5): great for price and super cute! - easy parking and nice house walls very thin
- Elif (9/5): -
- Kurt (7/5): A charming and historic place for sleep and solitude. - Very quaint old and historical house. It was extremely clean and comfortable. Location was excellent with several walkable dining options. For a place this charming it lacked just a little human touch. We experienced zero interaction with anybody human.Check in and out went as instructed but we had a feeling like we were sneaking in to somebody’s house uninvited. We didn’t expect to be treated like family but would have liked someone to make us feel welcome that’s all.

- Richard (8/5): - There was no breakfast Mattress was squishy. Didn't sleep well
- Jayne (10/5): We didn’t meet the host so I can’t say anything about that but directions were communicated clearly and the host was ver - Conveniently located. Room was clean and spacious enough. There could have been lighting by the twin bed. There were two bedside lamps and tables by the queen bed but nothing by the twin.
- Psaltos (10/5): Cozy, clean rooms at a great value. - Centrally located Bathroom could have had hand cream. And WiFi password could have been shared.
- Susan (8/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Owner was very proactive, explained how to make the perfect tempature
- Miriam (10/5): -

- Thomas (8/5): This inn was perfect for my needs. - It was conveniently located, very clean and the host was responsive to texts. All was OK.
- Tammy (10/5): - Everything. If your looking for a halmark moment in life this place is it.
- Cynthia (8/5): - Comfort & convenience Heater was not functioning in common area or room. Fortunately we had a gas fireplace.
- Kim (9/5): Charming Chester! - Lovely inn with a lot of charm and thoughtful set up with a beautiful common area. It's a small town but lots of neat shops right across the street.
- Dennis (8/5): -
- Filinto (10/5): Great spot - Very nice house. The kitchen very clean and complete. Nothing
- Antonia (8/5): -
- Minna (9/5): Our stay was relaxing in the scenic town of Chester and we truly enjoyed the space we had in Unit 5. - The location of the Chester Inn is terrific. They are located smack in the middle of town which is all accessable by foot (even MacLaomainn's Scottish Pub.) There was also a delightful walking trail located behind the Inn. The town included cute shops, antique stores, and bakeries. The only thing I would recommend is a water filling station for our water bottles. I did use the kitchen sink, hopefully that was OK. Vermont tap water is wonderful!
- Charles (8/5): Beautiful House in Beautiful Location - Very interesting old house on National Register of Historic Places. Room was very authentic yet had modern convenience of nice tv, microwave and refrigerator Off street parking was a bit difficult to find as many retail shops and restaurants in area. Bed was not as comfortable as I would like.
- Rosalie (9/5): Enjoyable, country comfort - Comfortable, old style furnishings
- Lucy (9/5): I'd stay here again. - Locations was good, the room was clean and good sized. Comfy bed and on site parking Lots of street noise but they did provide ear plugs which was nice.
- Jennifer (9/5): -
- Frances (9/5): - Nicely decorated clean
- Frances (8/5): - Decorated very nicely. Clean, coffee maker in the room, snacks in the kitchen area, nice main seating area. We really enjoyed this inn.
- Ruganis (10/5): - Great location!!
- Alan (9/5): -
- Susan (8/5): - Better breakfast options would be appreciated

- sherry (8/5): Left the place wanting to come back👍🏻 - Very comfortable n clean n location Wish they serve breakfast
- Arthur (7/5): Typical older rooming house building, clean, but with a few missing features. - We had stayed at this place a couple of years ago and thought it was a good deal, in that it included a highly-rated breakfast that we agreed was quite good. When we had new need of lodging in this area, I booked this place, frankly expecting it to be as it was and certainly expecting a breakfast to be included. I specificaly mention this because I cannot honestly say whether this time breakfast was mentioned as being included. I know the price this time was about $50 more than last time and chalked that up to inflation. So we were surprised to arrive and find NO ONE to check us in (instructions for "self check-in" had been emailed to us) and more surprised to find out that no breakfast was to be served because no one was there to do so. So if you are looking for a charming B&B experience, with a tasty breakfast and a pleasant host, don't count on this place. And the higher price we paid this time around was probably not just inflation (though, again, I can't swear to it that a breakfast had been included when I booked) but perhaps because the breakfast "B" of B&B was simply dropped. Next time I search for a B&B I'll be careful to confirm that both "B's" are being provided. Higher price, that experience was untouched by human hands, no breakfast offered, jacuzzi bath was inoperable.
- Miriam (9/5): Superb -
- Carolyn (9/5): Great weekend getaway central to many things we wanted to do. - The property manager was easy to reach by text to resolve any issues. The room and inn was comfortable and tastefully decorated to match the time period of the property. The inn and room were extremely clean.
- Laura (10/5): What a wonderful surprise, we would absolutely come back - It felt clean when we first came in, but the rooms were modernized and so comfortable! We loved the fact that there was a real coffee maker with real coffee in the room, and it just felt like such a beautiful space
- Margaret (8/5): Very good -
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Lazur (7/5): Good -
- Patricia (9/5): Superb -
- Valerie (8/5): We had a wonderful stay. - It was a beautiful room and clean. Tyler was very accommodating and patient. The houseman was also very friendly. It was convenient to what we needed. Everything was terrific.
- Jessica (8/5): Very good -
- Nina (10/5): Very comfy - Clean cozy Very cold bathroom
- Myra (6/5): Meh. - Nicely decorated, fireplace, good location For $222 I expect the jetted tub to work. I couldn’t even soak in it b/c there was mold on the wall. They tried putting some sticky stuff along the wall to prevent water from getting in but it’s falling off, water got back there & there is mold growing. I’m highly sensitive, my sinuses got swollen not long after I walked into the room. I couldn’t sleep well from the pressure.
- Donald (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ste (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (8/5): Very good - Very nice and quaint house and location. Well equipped communal kitchen with coffee, tea, dry oatmeal packets and breakfast bars. Not a full breakfast, but there is a great breakfast place across the street, which we enjoyed very much. The room was nice and big, with a huge bathroom. Location was very convenient for our skiing at Okemo. The windows in our room were extremely drafty. It was very cold outside during our stay, and the cold from the windows made it feel very cold even though the heat was on all the time. The bed was located directly under the windows, so it didn't help. These windows need some serious insulation!
- Jim (9/5): Nice room, good value - Nice room, nice bathroom Couldn’t get room as warm as I like. And the fireplace didn’t appear to be working
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Kim (8/5): Very good -
- Reinhold (8/5): Very good - The large spa tub was nice.
- Vincent (9/5): Enjoyable - Location to Stowe ski area
Clean and good facilities with pool Nothing worth mentioning
- Leone (5/5): Passable -
- Stacey (10/5): We had a wonderful, relaxing getaway. - The property was very lovely. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable. I also loved the little touches I hadn’t seen before such as earplugs on the night stand (not that it was noisy there!), real fresh ground coffee and coffee maker in the room, and a first aid kit in the bathroom. Luckily we didn’t need to use it, but a nice item to have on hand. The room as well as the inn was very clean. The only thing that would have been nice would be bottled water and coffee creamer in the kitchen refrigerator.
- Tammy (10/5): Excellent we would go back - Very cozy & relaxing we enjoyed sitting in the dinning area playing games felt like being home
- Nancy (9/5): Beautiful quiet old inn - Style Nothing
- Amy (8/5): Very good - Clean and comfortable. Good location.
- Joyce (9/5): Superb -
- Randall (8/5): Good overall property and location. - Location and condition of the property were good. Staff was helpful and courteous. No breakfast options were offered. The initial room we were given did not match the reservation details.
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Sonia (8/5): My daughter and I very much enjoyed our stay. It was unique and fit wonderfully with the charm and quaintness of the tow - Comfortable, quiet, good location close to shops and restaurants. Room was cozy, beds comfortable, and electric fireplace heater with flames in the room was a nice addition. Coffee, teas, hot cocoa and oatmeal/cereal bars provided in the kitchen for anytime. Check in and out process was smooth and easy and thorough instructions were provided. Would make it extra special for the host to be available in person during check in/check out and for the occasional question, but the property manager was quick to respond to texts and emails and help answer all of my questions. Property could use a few minor touch ups.
- Robert (7/5): Beautiful home but if you have any vertigo I would think twice. Floors are wavy! - Beautiful centuries old home. Dripped with history of the area. Easy parking, drive or street. Large bathroom. Never saw owners. stayed two nights two people two towels! Could not get steam bath to work. No directions on written paper as with other places,no recomms. for dinner etc. AC worked most of the time. Floors VERY wobbly! If you have any vertigo think twice. I realize this is a very old house, but it really dis lean, the floor that is.
- Jame (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Walt (10/5): A great place to stay and relax while enjoying Vermont. - We were greeted by very friendly hosts. Our room was very clean and spacious, and included all the enmities we would expect. The downstairs sitting area is a very nice place to relax and have a cup of coffee. The Inn is centrally located in Chester with plenty of walking to nearby shops. Everything was great.
- Katilynn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zullinger (5/5): We had a great visit to the town of Chester, but the inn fell short of our expectations. - The inn was right along the main street in Chester. The room was decorated nicely. The cleaning staff was very friendly and she even provided a ride for us on departure day to get from the inn to the train station 10+ miles away, which we greatly appreciated. BREAKFAST: When booking the reservation at Chester House, the website mentioned "full breakfast", which for a B&B I took it to mean on-site staff provided a fresh fully cooked & served breakfast. What was provided was self-serve oatmeal packets and a few other additions. We went elsewhere in town for breakfast.
BEDDING: The inn's room description also mentioned "sofa bed". What was provided was a futon, which was very uncomfortable to sleep on.
SHOWER: I also thought the shower facilities were unsafe; the shower floor was slippery and the unit was oddly-shaped.
CONTACT/RESPONSE: We also had some issues with transportation to and from the inn, being 10+ miles away from the train station. I used the Contact form on the inn's website the day of arrival to ask about shuttle services, but did not get a return response until late that evening (actually didn't see the response until the next morning). Claim was the email went to personal email, but I used the contact email (business email) provided directly on the inn's website.
- Kimberly (8/5): Very good -
- George (7/5): enjoyable - no breakfast was provided. it would have been nice to have something extra towel in the bathroom
- Jared (8/5): Nice quaint place, with a large common area for sitting and coffee. - Easy check-in, clean room, and good location for the area. The Scottish Inn downtown was fantastic. The pull out bed was very uncomfortable, it was a futon, but the center hinge created a large ridge all the way down the middle, which kept me from sleeping comfortably. My daughter slept very comfortably in the large bed.
- Brenda (10/5): Old charm with new age color - The Chester house had an old fashion charm with a splash of newness , parking was good and room was extra large great for two or three people to sleep comfortably There was nothing I did not like !
- Joni (9/5): Superb -
- Kira (10/5): Exceptional - It was an adorable home.
- John (5/5): The stay was ok - The location was good, Having the stores across the street was nice to have to go shopping. It was nice that it is a historical building. The bed was very uncomfortable it was to hard. Was not greeted by any staff it was very unwelcoming when there is nobody to greet you.
- Jeremy (9/5): Superb -
- Br (5/5): It's an Air BnB pretending to be an Inn/Bed and Breakfast - I liked the location, the room was well furnished. The pictures I saw on-line of the restroom did not match the one we had. We were under the impression we booked a Bed & Breakfast and it was more like an Air BnB.
- Cynthia (4/5): Beautiful inn, guest services and building maintenance need to be improved. - Quaint, historic inn, conveniently located. Period decor in keeping with the historic charm. 1)The bed was very high (as beds were of that era), but there was no accommodation to allow for getting into bed. A sturdy stool or steps are essential, especially for older patrons such as ourselves, or shorter people. 2)The jetted tub turned itself on at 9pm, and continued restarting every 15 minutes until 1am. We called the owner, but he said there was nothing he could do. It was as loud as an airplane landing on the roof. 3)the building needs maintenance. The front walkway is uneven, with dislodged bricks that should be reset. The wooden boards on the front of the porch are rotted away, with a pot attempt to cover the rot with a rug. 4) Not enough parking. 5) The information online mentions a full breakfast offered, but there was no details as to when, where, or if it was available. (There was coffee and dry creamer in the large, common area, but we would not have even known about that if it weren’t for my husband having to go through that area to replace a screwdriver that the owner had suggested he use to stop the noise from the jetted tub). 6) there was no follow up from the owner to see how we fared with the jetted tub situation, and no discount offered for the extreme inconvenience.
I hesitated to write this review because we were super hosts on Airbnb until we sold our home in CA and moved back east. We know how bad reviews can impact a listing, but we also know what the responsibilities of a host or owner should be regarding the comfort and wellbeing of the guests. We really thought this needed to related so that these oversights could be corrected.
- Tami (8/5): Would definitely stay again. - Great location
- Debra (10/5): The room was beautiful and the bed was amazing - The contactless check in was perfection Nothing everything was perfect
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Constantina (9/5): Superb -
