Guest Reviews
- Dave (10/5): Pleasing Stay - From check-in to check-out, it was a pleasing stay. The front desk staff was friendly, and the room that I got on the second floor was big with a balcony to boot! It was quite comforting. Sleeping was decent.
- Kimberly (6/5): You get what you pay for. - We just needed a quick place to sleep on our trip. Place was pretty quiet but not the cleanest. Was in a convenient location. Wish they had at least had a coffee maker in the room.
- Albert (2/5): - Very dissatisfied. We had enough warm water for 1 shower.... There were 2 of us. Couldn't get in touch with anyone for a solution. While the room was basically clean, it looked like it was put together from a garage sale. We'll never stay here again
- John (6/5): - The Edelweiss restaurant is nearby, The property.has done some upgrading but still has a lot to do.
The hot water was barely lukewarm. No coffee pot.
OK for a nights stay.
- Melody (8/5): - Friendly enviroment and family owned.
- Roberta (8/5): Good value - Hotel was a good value for the money. Clean room, easy parking, fast check in, fridge, microwave, lots of mirrors, big rear field, cable tv. Several fast food places along road along with truck stop with gas, food. 8-9 miles south of downtown Staunton.
Stayed here because of the excellent, fun Edelweiss German Restaurant practically next door. Very walkable 0.3 if you want to partake in their many beers. Will definitely stay again on my next visit to the restaurant.
- Andrew (4/5): - Non smoking room smelled like an ashtray. Saw 2 cockroaches in the room.
- Silvio (8/5): It sucks - This is family (Indian) hotel that is very basic for what you pay. Don’t expect comfort just basic truck stop hotel
Room were not clean, the floor was not mat probably for weeks or the bathroom
This is hotel that needs fast cash and your on your on
No ice or any coffee the photos they have on the web cite are were near reality
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very cold room, don't stay here. - The room was 50 degrees upon arrival. After several hours of having the heat on high, the bathroom was still freezing. We were not willing to even shower in the cold, plus they only left us 1 towel, 1 hand towel & 1 washcloth, there were 2 of us staying in the room! Because of this I did not leave our usual tip...their loss, but we won't be back. Such a shame, because the location is good & there is a German restaurant called Edelweiss about 3 minutes away which even had live music on a Sunday evening.
- Margi (2/5): - The room was very cheap, so I didn’t expect much. But the roaches were incessant. There were even roaches in the microwave, which I discovered after opening it when my water finished heating. But they weren’t dead, they weren’t even slowing down. So no roaches were harmed at that juncture. I can do less clean… and I can do broken stuff.. but I can’t do lots of bugs. I didn’t stay the second night I had paid for.
- John (4/5): - The personnel didn't seem to know what to do.
- Carolyn M (8/5): - This was a convenient place to get to, with simple clean accommodations,
- Bennie (6/5): Don't bother - It sucked!! I booked a double bed room, and when we got there it was a single. They said they were out of doubles. When I explained that my friend I was traveling with was a married man and we were NOT sleeping in the same bed, they put us in a room next door with a fold out couch. The bed was very comfortable, but the fold out couch mattress was so thin the springs made sleeping comfortably impossible. It smelled of bug spray, and there were dead bugs. The hotel is shabby, and appears to be a rent by the week type of facility. I was very unhappy.
- JOHN (4/5): - Not clean. Trash left in the room and even worse were the cockroaches.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Place could use some work on the outside. Inside was clean and in good repair.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Convenient!
- Steven (8/5): Nicely updated, comfortable. - Clean linnen, comfortable bed. Quiet and nice patio view. Room could have been cleaner. No coffee pot.
- marc (6/5): - lighting by the bed does not work. Had to move tall lamp over toward the bed to have lighting to see. Most disappointing was the internet. I spent more time trying to connect to the internet than getting work done. The mattress was a little firm for my liking.
- Jonathan L (6/5): - Fairly clean, good upkeep for older motel. Convenient, quiet. Lobby is 4 feet by 4 feet, no breakfast, no coffee. Pilot and McDs across the road. Okay motel, but there are others in Staunton that are better for the same price.
- Robert (4/5): Probably better staying elsewhere - Check-in took a while. The owner printed off a sheet, stared at it for a minute, asked if I had paid in advance, then stared at the sheet for another minute or two, then looked at his computer, stared at the sheet again and so forth. He finally gave me my key.
The room was old and a bit run down. The room was cold so I tried to turn on the heat. There was so much dust and grime covering the controls, that I couldn't read the settings. When I got the heat going, it put out a burning smell and it set the smoke detector off. When I tried to use the floor lamp in the corner, I found that it didn't have a bulb.
When I went to bed, I pulled the covers back and a bug was running across the sheet. There is no lobby at this hotel and no in-room coffee maker, so when I got up the next morning, I had to walk across the street to a gas station to buy a cup.
On the positive side, the bed was fairly comfortable and there is a very good German restaurant around the corner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Stay at a Great Price! - We have stayed here twice this month and will stay again in the future. Very pleasant staff, clean room, comfortable bed...we definitely have been pleased!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful views. close to restaurant and Gas. Friendly staff. Excellent value
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent, near highway, convenient to attractions and very clean and well kept. Most comfortable sleep.
- María (10/5): - Very good service, clean rooms, hot water, WiFi. It was a lot more of what I expected for the price. If I make this road trip again, I would stay there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Does the job.. not bad for price...perfect for dog owners
- Rosie (6/5): Comfortable Stay. - The price was right for this stay. It was not fancy but very adequate. We had everything we needed, including a mini fridge. The beds were comfortable and our room very clean. I would stay here again.
- Leonard (6/5): Hometown Inn - We were there two days. When we got back to our room there had been no housekeeping done. My wife went to the office to get some clean towels. She asked why no one cleaned the reply was “we knocked and no one answered”
- Robin (6/5): - It was musty, out dated, the bathroom had mold and mildew around the tub. The water was not hot for a shower. There flies in the room...a ton.
I can say the beds were comfortable and it was relatively quiet, considering it's across the road from a busy Pilot gas station/truck stop
- Verified traveler (8/5): - 89 dollars for one night on Saturday is pricey . The place dine even have a coffeemaker or coffee is not provided or offered
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This motel is far cleaner and fresher than any others I've stayed at in its price range. It's 12 miles from downtown Staunton, but both Interstate and surface highway provide quick, convenient access to the city.
And within a block is an excellent German restaurant.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - All of the furniture was falling apart, the sheets were clean but I was scared to lift them up and check the mattress. The walls were many different shades of stained. I stay at cheap places, I don’t have high standards at all. When I stay at a cheap place I expect outdated furniture but I’m never scared to sleep there or take a shower. At this place I was. The curtains to the patio were brown because of how old they were where they should have been white. On a positive note, the floors were updated.
- mary a (6/5): My review - It was worth the money I paid. Loved the patio and balcony idea but there were no screens. Towels needed cloroxing. Bed was clean. Definitely an older property not updated but was adequate for one night at that price. Had the convenience of parking outside the door for packing/unpacking. I would stay there again on second floor where I would be able to open door to balcony and enjoy the air. What would be so difficult about adding screens. To the patio/balcony?
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very easy to get to off I-81. Near Stauton , Fisherville and Charlottesville , many places to see and visit. We went to Country Music Fest and also Antique Mall (Very Large ).Only one day visit will be back again for longer stay enjoyed . This is a verynice place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Ground floor room had sliding glass backdoor......and grass outside
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great value. Welcome haven after a day on the road.
- allyn (8/5): Great price , clean - Older hotel great price, the very busy highway was close that's why the location grade wasn't higher.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don't,...... Ever! - Don't expect you bed to get done for four nights, towels to get changed every two nights. When you run the AC on 69 and leave for work, you will find it turned onto 77 when you get back to your room which will be as hot as an oven so they might save some money which you have paid already.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Bargain stay - Good & cheap. Plumbing worked & slept well. The floor could’ve been cleaner but that’s really it. It’s run-down but everything worked so no real issue.
- Michelle (8/5): Not bad for the orice - Just looking for a place to get some rest. Outside of building looks dated. The room was nice and clean.
- Griselda (10/5): - Hotel was great clean and convenient
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent. Extremely accommodating for a late checkin
- Tina (4/5): - Hotel was not that clean. Went to take ice bucket to get ice they said they had no ice machine. No coffee maker in room. In bathroom fixture missing. I have stayed at many hotels and never not seen a hotel without a clock in a room. We were there for a family members funeral and this hotel was just to far out. I won't be staying here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent Night’s Stay - Reserved room with two beds, was given room with one bed. Room was beautiful and clean otherwise. Bath towels are old and badly stained. Bring your own. Pillows reeked of stale, old, cigarette smoke. Bring a bottle of Febreeze (it contains a smell inhibitor). Heater/air conditioner/climate control did not work in my room; did not stay long enough to see that it was repaired or replaced. Pet-friendly with $12/day fee. For a last minute stopover on a long road trip, it was pretty decent. Most beautiful sunrise off upper floor balcony.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Liked nothing about this place, rooms old and somewhat dirty, hair in tub, no breakfast or coffee overpriced for what was offered. I would not recommend to any one.
- Jess (6/5): - Just ok
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed here a bit to get away from the hurricane last minute and the staff was super friendly and had a great time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Old outdated but clean. Very friendly owner with prompt service in correcting a TV issue.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I wouldn't recommend, this place was dirty and is in need of some upgrades.
- Matt (6/5): Clean, safe and near Wilson Presidential Library - This hotel wasn't bad. It's no frills, but it was a good sleep and I wasn't bothered by crooks or staff. If you want to do something in town, the Woodrow Wilson library is in Staunton. There are other places to see and things to do, as well. Quaint, cool old Virginny towne!!
- Debra (8/5): - The room was nice with a couch, table and chairs with a king bed. They had a nice size fridge and a microwave. The ice machine wasn't working so they handed you a small bag of ice. The place looks dated on the outside and few plug outlets on inside. Wi fi was good at times.
- peter (8/5): - quiet location with lots of historical atmosphere
- Jim (6/5): - Room was acceptable. Shampoo container from prior night had not been removed from Bath. Other than that room was fine for a basic Motel. No Frills
- Peter & Barb (6/5): Best value around ! - We arrived late at night for our stay. It took a little while to check in as there was some confusion as to whether we had prepaid or not. Once that was rectified everything went well.
Large rooms. Good repair. Nice setting. Safe area.
My only negative comment would be that noise carried through the walls from room to room too much.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good hotel for this price - Good hotel for this price, room was clean, a lot of space, parking in front, easy check in.
- Julia (10/5): - Family friendly...loved it!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Warm, welcoming and comfortable room. - A very nice and very clean room. Heater worked perfectly and quietly. Refrigerator and microwave were in room. I would return again and suggest this facility to friends as a very good value.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was clean, comfortable, convenient, and affordable. Very good.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room was ok, but I think the hotel is used by questionable characters. I heard what sounded like a violent domestic incident one night, and a noisy party the next.
- Catherine (6/5): I-81 easy access - Convenient location. Lowest price in the area. Easy access on and off I-81.
- mr. hans (10/5): blissfully wonderful - love a bargain
- Scott (8/5): Clean but basic. - I read several negative reviews of the Homestead before checking in and became a bit nervous, to tell the truth. Fortunately, I had a very positive experience. Check-in was easy and friendly. The room is basic in that there were no coffee makers or iron with ironing boards, but free wifi and both a micro wave and refrigerator are always a plus on my list. Yes, the place needs some touching up with paint and bathroom sink and tub need a bit of touching up, but the room was incredibly clean and the beds made with great care. I would dare say better care than other hotels with notable reputations. It was quiet and perfect for a good night's sleep. The view off the balcony was lovely with a large play area for children and lots of grass. Directly across the street is an Arby's and a Subway sandwich shop convenient to gas stations more affordable than in Staunton itself. You most definitely are not in Staunton. The town is about a ten minute drive north.
Face it: You are looking at this property because it is less expensive. Right? Trust me, on a weekend you will not find a less expensive place within a few hundred miles.
If you are looking for a 3, 4 or 5 star hotel, you should not stay here. If you are looking for a clean more affordable motel run by friendly staff, this place just might be the right choice for you!
- Marsha (4/5): Not my cup of tea! - We asked for a nonsmoking room. Got sick from the smoke smell. There was no hair dryer in the room. No coffee pot in the room. No pop machine anywhere. Pillows were flat. Someone came knocking on the door in the morning to see if we were gonna stay another night. No one in the office when we checked out. We were given no receipt and only one key for the room. The walls were paper thin. Kids playing in the parking lot not paying attention to traffic. We will never stay there again.
- David (8/5): A great value! - I haven’t come across many independent budget motels that are pet friendly, have 2 beds, fridge, microwave, flatscreen, etc. in such an affordable range.
The rooms are dated but clean, and that is most important to me!
I’ll stay here again
- Carlie (8/5): Good, Affordable - No frills but quiet, safe, and comfortable - which are important to us.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nonsmoking room smelled like smoke - Convenient location off highway but the room smelled like smoke. Leaking or leftover water on bathroom floor that caused a fall during our stay. the price was right but left a bit to be desired.
- nickolas (2/5): nasty - It was the dirtiest place that I have ever stayed.
- Steve (4/5): Did not respect my reservation - I had booked a room with a king bed, but, when I arrived, they said they had no rooms of this type left. We were rather given a room with double beds.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Okay for 1 Night - The outside building is in need of repair. Nice back yard with swing set for children. Carpet not completely swept; when we pulled out the nightstand to plug the lamp in, it was dirty. Refrigerator was a nice size, but it hadn't been cleaned. No access to 2nd floor except steps; not good if you have mobility issues. Area seemed quiet. Continental breakfast available in the office area. Not really any place to sit and eat. Went elsewhere for breakfast. AC unit noisy.
- John (8/5): Affordable - Water pressure was amazing. We enjoyed the swings and basketball court.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cheap and clean - Old hotel but everything works and it was clean.
- Verified traveler (2/5): far from pleased - Room is severely dated. It appeared that housekeeping was fired prior to my arrival. Room walls and polishable surfaces were not wiped down. It would of been a CSI tech's wet dream with all the hand prints. Shower walls and tub were not cleaned. Toilet seat was not fully cleaned. Trash from previous guest was still there. If it wasn't for the fact that I was exhausted from driving 10 hours I would of left to another nearby hotel.
- Vaughn (2/5): Run down motel - The motel was dirty with spider webs in the corners. When I turned on the bathroom light a roach ran across the floor. There were flying insects in the room. The sliding glass back door didn't lock. But it was only $42.00, so I guess you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The bed hung over the box springs, so you felt like you were going to fall off if you sat on the edge of the bed.
- Dennis (2/5): Disgusting - The worst place ever. You should be ashamed to have this on your list. My wife cried when she saw the room.
- travel lover (2/5): Turned away - Despite having an itinerary and confirmation, I was told that no rooms were available and that an Expedia reservation would not be honored.
- Tammy (8/5): Clean But Old - It was a good stay for the price. I was traveling by myself and it was a clean bed to rest for a few hours.
- Lisa (6/5): at least it has a microwave and fridge - It seems to be ran by a family. and they get up to you in the middle of the night.
the breakfast is more like snacks and milk.
- Sam (8/5): Clean, courteous, and right there. - The rooms were clean, comfortable, and newly remodeled. Bathrooms were dated, but well maintained and spotless. Check-in runs until 11pm, but I called ahead, and they accommodated us arriving late. Great little motel for the price. Near gas, convenience stores and a very nice German restaurant. And little else, but the Interstate. Beautiful country.
- Carol (6/5): Convenient to roads - I arrived on a very cold day & room took a long time to warm up (old concrete.) But the room was unexpectedly spacious with lots of surfaces - tables, desk - to spread/sort stuff which always seems necessary when traveling. Bed was firm for (for me) comfortable, quite warm. Noise was minimal & they had a set of french doors in the back which overlooked a deep green field & a sharply rising hill beyond that; very nice view to sit with. No coffee-maker (but I'm not finding these on this trip in any facilities). I did bring my own fixin's, tho, so was able to sit comfortably & watch the field instead of the road. Landlady not at all chatty, but reservation was quickly made & request for first-floor room met with a smile. Hessian house interesting historically, but has to be a chilly place to live - all that old brick. Very convenient to the road, easy on-off, lots of parking for large or pull-along vehicles.
- Richard (8/5): - Good basic accomodations.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room was not very kept up. Sink was tearing off the wall, sizable stains on the carpet, sheets and blankets had pieces of grass imbedded in it. Shower still had a used soap bar in it. And there was not adequate locks on the doors, especially for a ground floor room.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - not good, the check in is somebody house, smells terrible, there's bug on the bed, no tooth brush provided....
- MIKE (10/5): - Great place to stay, quiet and comfortable
- Verified traveler (4/5): Wouldn't stay again - Not satisfactory. Turned heat on and couldn't regulate it, so just turned it off. Hole in the sheet (if there is a hole put it at the foot where it won't be seen!) Spread did not look clean - we pulled it back and didn't use it. Both sinks had been patched around the drain vent. The breakfast was pathetic. All it was was two cold cereals, packages cinnamon rolls, bananas and a partial loaf of bread. It was a pretty much do-it-yourself breakfast. Had to look in refrigerator to find milk and juice.
- Janice (2/5): Big disappoint. Pay for what you get learned my le - This was advertised as an historic home which we could not attest to. Motel smelled, not very clean, had cheap microwave, sinks and shower needs complete remodel room was run down.
- Cynthia (6/5): bimonthly get away - nice
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cold leftover coffee for continental breakfast. - Was disappointed. Staff was totally cold and indifferent. Came to have coffee at 7:30 when I was told the continental breakfast was to be served. There were only two bananas, remaining of old cold coffee and milk thst my mother said tasted as if it was spoiled. Staff just looked at us and said nothing.
Carpet and room overall were old. Ac was from the 60s, loud. Turned the heater button on and the smoke filled the entire room.
for 45$, I should have stayed at motel 6. Also, the rental cars navigator was not able to find the exact address of the motel.
- Cynthia (8/5): Nice - Nice quiet place to enjoy the weekend....
- Joseph (4/5): - The beds were alright but the blankets looked dirty and one of the towels had what looked like blood on it so we used our own towels. There was no breakfast..their "continental breakfast" was a bunch of expired bars and some cereal. All the food minus the bananas were like 6 monthes expired.
- Ted (10/5): Great hotel near the beginning of Blue Ridge Pkw - I've stayed in this hotel after finishing Blue Ridge Parkway backwards. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room and nice patio to the green grass garden. Upper rooms have a private balcony. I had a king bed with a sofa. No odor or funny smell of the room whatsoever ( not as in other hotels, which are 'non-smoking'). That is of course if you don't turn the heater on ( Even by accident! If you do you will smell some dust being burned ).
The worst though is NO/WEAK Wi-Fi internet access. It was NOT working neither on laptop or a smartphone. Huge minus for that.I asked owner to check and fix it three times, but with no result... Too bad, as I really depend on it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Beds were terrible....coils in mattress really hurt your back and give you pretty much a sleepless night which is not what you want on a fifteen hour trip. They have a very sparse breakfast if you could call it breakfast. We did not expect it, but a bag of miniature donuts and apples and well ripened bananas does not give a great impression. I felt very brushed off when asking for ice water...it was a very hot day. Was looking forward to a stay in an old town hotel. Not sooooo!
- John (8/5): Great deal! - Hotel was very simple and relaxed. Very basic hotel but for a great price. Definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): If you need a cheap option ok otherwise no! - Bath room was not clean. Dirty towels left from the previous guest and shower had not looked as though it had been cleaned thoroughly.
Bed was so soft I thought my child might fall through let alone a grown adult. Sheets were so rough they irritated my skin, which I have never had happen before.
Front lobby had a strong middle eastern odor. No breakfast was served/offered.
No security latch on the door.
Really only okay if you need a cheap place to stay overnight. Not ideal for women, children, families etc.
- Douglas (4/5): Not happy in Staunton - The bathroom/shower was not very clean - had soap film on the walls and soap tray. Also, had to take a cold shower as the hot water did not come after five minutes of running. We cancelled reservation for return trip.
- Jay (6/5): OK value hotel but nothing special. - Hotel is somewhat grubbier than the marketing photos suggest. The room was somewhat beat-up. Refrigerator was unplugged and apparently not working. Limited available outlets for plugging in anything. I needed to unplug the TV just to charge my cell phone. A/C was underpowered and completely off upon arrival; took multiple hours to cool the room. WiFi was unreliable. Room was large and bed was pretty comfortable. Outside security lights turned off sometime in the middle of the night so the parking lot goes completely dark. Overall it's an OK value hotel but nothing special.
- Skye (6/5): - easy check in, close to where I needed to go the next day
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We were expecting to see the part built by prisoners but you only get to step about 5ft in the door. We also found some things left in the room from the previous
people. This is not a place we would choose to stay at again:( p.s. toilet didn't work properly even after contacting the front desk to fix it***
- Steve (10/5): Great hidden gem. - Awesome.
- Dr. J.E. (10/5): WOW a Revolutionary War relic from1778. Beautiful! - I especially excited to see the period building built by Hessian POWs. It is still in grand condition.
The spacious room and amenities, such as fridge and microwave made my stay quite comfortable. The nearby Edelweiss restaurant was another feature that I enjoyed.
- Fiona (2/5): Very Cheap & Nasty - This hotel looks nice in the pictures but they are deceptive. It was and is a dump. I went for "continental breakfast" at 8am only to find 1/2 a pot of cold coffee, stale cereal and old bananas. The owner/manager was surly. It was not convenient for town. The only reason to stay here is if all the other inexpensive places are booked.
