Neat, comfortable accommodation and value for money. Fully halaal, alcohol free property. Breathtaking sunset views from rooftop infinity pools. Property on the beach and close to the ferry port. Staff very friendly and hospitable. Highly recommended. Mosquitos in the room although mosquito nets are provided. Booking.com marketed this property with free airport taxi ( see attached screenshot) but when the booking was completed, the service had to be paid for at an additional cost.. False and deceptive marketing.

Man fik en god service, og de virkede som om, at de havde lyst til at servere for en som rejsende. Utroligt dårlig service i receptionen. De har ikke styr på hvad man har betalt, og de opkræver forkerte beløb. Når man så beder om at få det løst, så vil medarbejderen hverken oplyse sit navn, eller være løsningsorienteret. Det er frustrerende at 2 medarbejdere står taler om en på deres eget sprog, når de ligeså godt kunne tale engelsk. Jeg kan på det kraftigste anbefale at man får alle aftaler på skrift hver eneste gang man har talt med en i receptionen, for de overleverer tydeligvis ikke aftaler der er indgået imellem sig. Alt ved den reception er forfærdelig, og medarbejderne er ikke deres ansvar værdigt. Da de ikke har styr på hvad man har købt, så bad jeg i sidste ende om at få en kopi af alle kvittering plus en samlet udskrift fra computeren. Jeg fik en kopi af alle kvitteringer og medarbejderen fortalte mig, at han havde lagt selve udskriften sammen med kvitteringerne. Dette opdagede jeg så var en direkte løgn. Manden har stået og løget mig direkte op i ansigtet. Kan kun anbefale andre rejsende at finde et andet hotel, da de ikke er til at stole på.

- Anthony (10/5): The warmth feeling upon check-in made you aware you were in for a wonderful stay. I was not disappointed and the perfect - The overall service by all the Thembo House team was warm, welcoming and very engaging. The breakfast was everything you could wish and more along with dinner menu options. The room was comfortable with awesome views of the ocean and the location is top notch. The manager , Sourav and his team allowed me to checkout late , by early arrangement which made for a very pleasant overall stay with no any extra charge. Very kind and flexible of a great team. The hotel historically has great charm and character and you can feel the warmth throughout the hotel. I loved everything about the property.
- The Katest Kate (10/5): Delightful weekend getaway - I loved the decorations and the vibe. The staff were lovely. My room was adorable, and it was nice to see the ocean from the balcony. Also good food at breakfast! The bed was short. I'm 5'5" (165.5cm), and my head was very close to the headboard while my feet were touching the end of the bed. A tall person would have trouble!

- Idi Papa Claude (8/5): Nous avons passé très peu de temps à l’hôtel; Nous étions refroidis par l’accueil; un petit déjeuner qualitatif - Le petit-Dejeuner La piscine Son emplacement Absence d’articles d’hygiène (brosse à dents) et chaussons, assez moyen pour un hôtel 4 étoiles. L’accueil à notre arrivée le jeudi 23/04 à 10h avec ma fille. Nous nous présentons à la réception; je décline mon identité et on me dit que ma chambre est TANGAWIZ, que ma femme et mon fils arrivés la nuit y sont déjà installés, et que je dois les appeler pour savoir où cela se trouve exactement. On me donne le code wifi pour cela. J’appelle ma femme pour comprendre après que la chambre est à l’extérieur de l’hôtel. Nous avançons seul pour trouver le bâtiment, presqu’arrivés au pied de l’escalier pour voir deux personnes arrivées pour nous porter de l’aide. Il est rare, de nos jours, de voir ce genre de comportement, encore moins dans un hôtel 4* implanté dans une zone touristique.

Will come back again! - My room on the top of the annex building was exceptional: I had a balcony overlooking the main hotel with the ocean behind and the road intersection below. Nice breeze when opening the windows. The staff were great, especially the Indian manager with whom I had a very nice chat about his long time in Tanzania.

Our room had a balcony overlooking the beach and ocean, with constant activity from boats and traditional dhows, as well as local acrobatics on the beach. What really made our stay exceptional was the professionalism and support of the staff. Sourav, the manager, was extremely helpful, well-organized, and always available to assist with arrangements, ensuring everything ran smoothly throughout our stay. Mohamed also provided efficient support with tours and taxis. A special mention goes to Isaac, the head waiter, who demonstrated a consistently high level of professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality. He was always approachable, attentive to detail, and ensured guests felt welcome and well looked after at all times. His service truly enhanced our experience. We would also like to thank Sabrina and Rahmeena at the egg station, who greeted us each morning with warm smiles and friendly conversation. The hotel itself is full of historic charm, and combined with such excellent service, we would highly recommend it. Nothing

- 207irenb (8/5): The best location in Stone Town - A truly wonderful stay at Tembo Hotel in Stone Town. Our stay at Tembo Hotel was absolutely delightful, and once again exceeded our expectations. The location is simply perfect – right by the beach, yet in the heart of the city – making it an ideal base for exploring Stone Town and setting off on various excursions. The staff were genuinely warm, welcoming, and attentive, always quick to help and fix anything if needed, which made us feel truly cared for throughout our stay. The food was delicious, with beautifully prepared meals that added to the overall experience. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, ensuring restful nights after long days of exploring. This was our second time staying at Tembo Hotel, and it certainly won’t be our last. We can wholeheartedly and warmly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, great service, fantastic food, and an unbeatable location in Zanzibar. Best regards from The sisters 26/4-26

Staff is amazing: We arrived early in the morning and they made sure we could check in way before check in time also we had to leave early, overslept, they even woke us up and prepared us breakfast to take with us. Thanks again so much for making sure we did not miss our flight! Rooms are a bit small for two large suitcases
- Jochen (9/5): Lovely stay in the house of Freddie Mercury's birth! - We had four different rooms in the four nights we stayed at Tembo Hotel! We had selected the hotel early in our planning process (This was part of a 2 month trip through eastern and southern Africa, and we planned relaxing a few days in Zanzibar after 10 Safari days that were arranged by the wonderful Tanzania Pilgrimage Safaris team), but by the time we made the reservation none of the rooms was available for the four consecutive days. Wow, that was great! 4 different rooms in three of their 4 different buildings, and one room was greater than the other (bar #10 in the "Tembo Palce" building, which was a bit so-so). Four poster beds with ample Moskito nettings in the Freddie Mercury and Family rooms, big ceiling fans and AC in all the rooms. Other than having to collect a new room key every day there was no hassle at all with the room changes. The bath rooms are unbelievable - 2 of them bigger than your average hotel room and equipped like your own private oriental hamam (-the steam, unfortunately). Excellent breakfast buffet with eggs/omelette station like on a cruise ship. Super friendly and attentive staff throughout, and a very efficient excursion office - loved the guided tour of Stone Town with "Chief", a most knowledgeable, funny and lovely guide. Oh, and the Location - right on the beach and next to the working harbour - lovely! Initially, we were asking if they could somehow make fewer room changes possible and were a little disappointed they could not, but in the end: See above!

- Ivan (9/5): Amazing end of our Zanzibar holiday - The hotel itself is very beautiful and staying here was a great part of the Stone Town visiting experience. We stayed at the "Freddy Mercury room" although we did not look for it specifically - according to the information board, he might have probably lived there. The room was very spacious. Good restaurant. There are swimming pools and even the sandy beach available. The "Freddy Mercury room" is in a separate building, not in the hotel - to if you plan to use the swimming pool facilities, it may not be very comfortable to walk across the street. It is also on the 2nd floor without an elevator - the hotel workers would help to carry the luggage. The breakfast does not fully start at 7.00 - the omlette and pancake station is not yet active that early. This is acceptable though.

No bar/ no Alkohol in the hotel, Some of the staff at the front desk are quite unfriendly and seem a bit overwhelmed by their duties. Even simple things like ordering a taxi don't work, or only after asking and with a delays.

- Celia (9/5): Super charming historical and central accommodation - Staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are quite spacious, breakfast is great, with a lot to choose from, the location is just amazing! I tried to get a late check-in, willing to pay for it and there was some secrecy surrounding the matter. I tried the day before I arrived, and they told me to wait until the next day. When I arrived, they told me it would be possible, but they didn’t give me any further details. Two hours later, I asked again, and it was only then that they finally told me it wouldn’t be possible. I would have liked to have known that from the start, so I could have had the information in time to find a solution to my problem.

- carolyneu2022 (10/5): ZANZIBAR ISLAND!!! - Amazing hotel, I loved 😍 the 🚿, it was intense in a nice way and the decor of the bathroom was soo antic, so Zanzibar.The breakfast I must say surpassed my expectations, the crepes were out of this world, my daughter's favorite 😋😋Their was definitely leadership presence as the manager checked up on us about our bfast experience.They have 2 pools, on the ground and roof top and games as well.We got to play 🏓 ping pong.Its located near the food market- Forodhani hence dinners are sorted . Check out is at 10am but when we requested for one more hour, we were granted and this is wat I call great customer care.Thanks!
- Meriem (7/5): Séjour agréable grâce à l’emplacement, malgré quelques points à améliorer - L’hôtel bénéficie d’un excellent emplacement, notamment grâce à sa proximité avec le port, idéal pour les excursions vers Prison Island et Nakupenda, qui reste sans doute la meilleure sortie de la ville. Il est même possible de partir directement depuis la plage de l’hôtel et rejoindre l’île en seulement 20 minutes en bateau. Situé en plein cœur de la vieille ville, tout est accessible à pied. La suite Tembo avec accès direct à la mer est très agréable, même si la plage reste moins adaptée à la baignade comparée à Nungwi, qui est la plus belle plage de l’île. Enfin, le personnel est réactif et attentif, ce qui est très appréciable. Plage assez animée avec beaucoup de bateaux et de passage (normal vu la proximité du port), mais reste correcte pour une petite baignade. Petit déjeuner basique et de qualité moyenne. Chambre spacieuse et bien située en bord de mer avec terrasse, mais propreté à améliorer (sol poussiéreux), peu d’équipements et beaucoup de moustiques, dans la chambre comme à l’extérieur, ce qui est dérangeant.

- Andreas (8/5): Idealer Ausgangspunkt für einen kurzen Aufenthalt oder eine Stadtbesichtigung - Das Hotel liegt zentral direkt am Strand von Stone Town, Es hat drei Pools (leider zu wenig Sonnenliegen). Das Hotel und die Zimmer sind sehr sauber, Die Bedienung und das Personal sind sehr freundlich. In der Bar und im Restaurant wird kein Alkohol ausgeschenkt.

- Michael (8/5): Honourable old house at beachfront with friendly reception. - Its a great place direct at the beach front. Unless other hotels in stone town you cant get lost because Tembo is easy to find and easy to access road. Staff was great and very friendly. Paying with credit card was not an issue. One couple in our group had room named Karafuu with moldy smell, which was 3 meters right at the pool, so guests from the pool could look direct into the room, while passing. Had to close windows and curtains all the time. Next day they could change to another rooms, thanks to reception. Breakfast is a bit canteen like, empty tables, you have to collect all items yours self.
