Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (2/5): This maybe cheap but I couldnot recommend anyone to stay there. - Good position for ferry Room was not as described or pictured. Curtains had holes in them. Bed the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. No television. Bathroom like a cubicle, shower over toilet.
- Corinna (8/5): - Charmant eingerichtetes Zimmer
Nettes Personal
- Lee (1/5): Don’t do it - Nothing No toilet tissue in the room
No clean towels
One dirty towel and empty soap bottle in the room
Uncomfortable mattress
- Abdulwahid (5/5): Passable -
- Laura (6/5): Good stay - Great location and pet friendly No shower gel/soap, no bins in the room, no tissues/toilet paper
- Mervyn (1/5): Bad -
- Rio (1/5): Bad experience - Sheet pillow quilt were smelly. Room was small and unclean. However the price was high. Bathroom was also very small, and there was no shampoo, hairdryer, towel. Hot water was enough just for one person.
- Sara (7/5): Very trustworthy. - We managed to leave behind a valuable article.
Saïd, the manger was absolutely fantastic at helping us to get it back to England. Thank you so much, Saïd, we so appreciate your efforts.
- De (3/5): Poor - The hotel was in a nice área. There were bedbugs.
- Arne (7/5): Good - The Hotel is just in the town center, the room was clean and well equipped. The bathroom is just one of these shower-toilets, where everything gets flooded. Due to some party in town it was very loud outside until early morning, and the windows weren't very soundproofing.
- Тucha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Biswajit (6/5): Pleasant -
- Williams (8/5): Great place to experience Calais. - Friendly. Adjoining room great for family. Not the hotel's fault, but noisy at night with revellers in the street.
- Stephen (10/5): Great location and a great place to stay, comfortable beds and helpful and welcoming owner. - The rooms were both comfortable and clean. The hot water was a little hit and miss as to whether it came on or not.
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Erickmacgon (10/5): Exceptional - everything was awesome, 10 of 10
- Martin (5/5): cheap and cheerful. - Very friendly welcome.
I just needed somewhere to rest my head overnight so didn’t need anything fancy.
Room was clean/warm. Cheap and cheerful sums it up. Literally five min walk to train station. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Again totally get what you pay for.
1. No hot water at 6am for shower.
2. No towels in room.
- Alex (9/5): Calais stay sorted - Room was very clean and beds were comfortable. Receptionist was exceptionally nice, having remember me checking into another hotel in Calais pre-covid. Basically as central as you can get for Calais - if you need to park, you can for free a short walk away (on the other side of the square). Really minor point - no soap in bathroom. All we needed was a bar - other lower star hotels tend to provide this.
- Brendan (10/5): will definitley stay there again the owner even dropped us back to port top man - The room was perfect for my son and myself had everything we needed for our overnight stay the owner was so helpful and had a lovely manner and had a great rapport with all the guests
- Paulo (4/5): Good location but too noise - The staff outside noise and cool on room, ask if heating was off and reply with out of season for heating be on
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aivars (8/5): Very good -
- Mackenzie (5/5): Passable -
- Cerys (8/5): Very good -
- Nathan (3/5): Not at all restful - Basic but fine for the price, location ok, no breakfast but it’s cheap The walls were paper thin, you could hear everything taking place on the floor and it was impossible to sleep due to the noise throughout the building - dog whining in the next door room, shouts, a couple who came home drunk and then argued before having sex. We didn’t sleep at all. It would be basic but fine if there was some kind of sound insulation but without that I wouldn’t stay here again.
- Bellatrix (10/5): Perfect, relax, and really friendly place to be. - the location is great to get to the Eurotúnel nothing the hotel need updating but all is clean, and perfect access to all restaurants Ana accept dogs.
- Sergej (7/5): Good -
- Rosemary (8/5): Great value for money. Perfect location to nightlife and ferry. - Siad the manager met us on arrival and made us most welcome. He offered to drive us to a distant station early the next day as no busses were travelling. He was a wonderful host.
- Yunxuan (6/5): Pleasant - reception guy friendly and speakers fluent English and the position of hotel is perfect ,next to Calais city center and train station, you won't find this price elsewhere around this area, so good if you're expected a one night stay here, highly recommend for passengers taking p&o ferrys Calais to Dover as a foot passenger, this is a good place for you to spend your night, and free shuttle bus to ferry terminal from 0802 to 1907 7days a week stops 2 step away from hotel door, remember the check-in of ferry stops 90min before departure. the external door been locked and lights turned off on ground floor when I arrived, make me confused that the hotel has closed, you have to ring a doorbell to call someone to open the door for you, the room is in expected with this price, bathroom can be improved due to their size, cause problems to sitting on toilet, I have to sit in a weird position due to hashbasin, the wifi is extremely terrible, I have to reconnect it once and once to get internet, so I just use my own mobile data, with poor signal inroom, still no one in the reception desk when I'm going to check out, so I leave the key in reception desk.
- W.a.e (1/5): Expensive but horrible! - Close to ferry Tiny room, remote for TV didn't work because battery cover was missing, no heating, tiny toilet/shower cubicle, no shower curtain, if I had showered, water would have drenched even the toilet. No one there when I came, door locked, number to call had a message in French, second number finally connected to someone in hotel. Loud. Not even a rubbish bin in room.
- Julia (5/5): totally okay stay for a night in Calais - very nice welcoming, great staff, very friendly, hotel is very central and good value for the money unfortunately noisy (street and room next door), no trash bin, no Wi-Fi (or at least we didn’t get the password)
- Vicky (8/5): Very good - Very friendly staff the room was clean. It was on a street with a variety of resteraunts nad bar and some nice shops.
For a night it was good value for money. no drink making facility (would have been willing to pay extra for a cup of coffee). No Toilet Roll in the room.
- Sclafani (8/5): Very good -
- Lara (2/5): Staff are friendly but the hotel is awful. - 10 min by car to the Eurotunnel, cheap. I regret not paying more to stay somewhere decent. This is probably one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. Bed isn't comfy, cushions are just all lumpy and the bathroom smelled so bad we had to hold our breath when we went in. No proper shower, a wet room meaning water goes everywhere, no shower curtain and no water pressure.
- Sarah (7/5): Good - Location Manager stated we hadn't booked, was very rude.
- Lionel (5/5): Fine if you can't find anywhere better. - Location was convenient for the railway station and buses to the ferry. The room was basic but comfortable. It was very noisy from the street. Also, I had no towels or soap and there was no-one in reception to find me any.
- Ines (6/5): Convenient - Very central, close to shops and restaurants . Only 10 drive from the Eurotunnel.
- Naresh (2/5): - Even for just 1 overnight stay en-route and at (as low as) £35.00 We will NOT use this hotel again. The lights in the room were not working. Electricity wiring looked a bit dodgy. Had to leave the window open because it felt unclean. It's on the noisy road with bars and pubs. Basically didn't sleep well. Shower was leaking. Overall rubbish.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was clean. You get what you pay for.
- Valerie (8/5): Value for money - We had 3nights at Citadel, but we had 2nights in a double room and one night in a twin. Nice crisp white bed linen and towels. Twin room felt more spacious and as it had two windows. Nice accommodation for the price. Very central for Ferry port, and bars and restaurants. Very helpful staff.
- jean (2/5): poor hotel no reception - pass not working ,bed was terrible, double glazing not seal properly
I will not recommend this hotel to anyone not worth a star
- Andrew (2/5): I was scammed. - Hotel was locked up on arrival, it was pouring with rain. I tried the buttons no joy.
I then noticed a piece of appear to call. Not mowing the local code I had to find that then call the number. Someone replied and said they would come. Someone did and we went inside. No booking on there system they said. Hotel full. Hotels.com no good they said. I was not happy. We have another hotel not far I you go there we have one room left. So in the pouring rain what else could I do. I was dire, filthy, old. No wifi, shower head broken off and a piece of cord for a shower. Bed was filthy. I eat tried to sleep, couldn't and left after 5am.
Funny though that they said go to the room and I can pay when I come down, they they had taken payment by the time I came back so they found the booking. I was not pleased I was not in what I booked, as I had stayed there before with the BBC. This was a scam, total scam, never again will I be booking this way.
- boulanger (2/5): à éviter absolument - très bruyant
- Verified traveler (8/5): ideal for stop over - central location, good for stop over, good value for rate..
- Bernadette (8/5): Decent out of the Calais Budget hotels. - I returned here, after trying out all the local lowest price hotels, that's 25-35 euro. I'd rate them in this order
Belazur & Citadel - yes
Beffroi, Pacific - no not unless others are booked out
Marie Tudor - no don't even think about it.
Citadel room, I've stayed in 3 of the 9, are fine for cleanliness. Hard to work out how to use the TVs, the water in the showers can be variable, but rooms renovated, warm, not damp smelly like Pacific and Marie Tudor. Worst part is having to go to Belazur to collect the key, that's a pain and should be clearly written on the adverts on hotels.com.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Outside was warmer than the hotel room - No heating when we told the reception he just shrugged it off with no attempt to rectify the problem and it was cold that night. Perfect for those who don't like heat or warmth !
- Brian (2/5): FREEZINGHELL.com - Shockingly, the Citadel hotel, in Calais', was closed when I arrived: along with four others: some local 'scandal', involving the Police, according to locals. While trying to find somewhere else, I had my wallet pickpocketed, and I spent a rather 'purgatorial' night on a park bench. I'm currently trying to get my money back from Hotels.com. No 'accommodation' on that score either, as yet.
- Verified traveler (4/5): One night only - No lift but four flights, not all rooms have own toilet which is not mentioned in the ads, showers inadequate- too small and little pressure. Worst of all the reception only operates for one hour from 4pm - 5pm so it is almost impossible to get in touch with them (they pack the phone away and don't answer or have a message service)
- Éric (4/5): - Pas de télévision.....
Confort très moyen....
Bruyant....
Bref pas terrible franchement
- R (8/5): Cheap - For the price this is great stopover. I could not get in!
Hotel is locked, small foyer with no receptionist. No notice on how to check in, went round to other hotels asking advice until someone who could tell me sister hotel for checking in. Otherwise cheaper than anywhere else, shower too small
- Abigail (8/5): A lovely stay. - I was very much impressed with my little room. It was just a simple, self contained room but it was lovely after a long day to have a space of my own to return to. I stayed for 5 nights, the room was always clean but the sheets were not cleaned for the entire stay. The staff were lovely. The bars across from the hotel were fantastic and cheap.
- Peter (6/5): One night stay - The room was small but clean. The beds were comfortable and the shower and loo were clean and functioned well.
This is a small hotel with only 9 rooms, all up steep stairs to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. No lift, so not suitable for visitors with mobility difficulties. The young lady on reception duty was helpful. The rooms have little sound insulation so could be noisy. No public rooms, coffee shop or other facilities.
All in all, fine for a brief stay, probably not for any length of time
- Gina Frankie (4/5): Good location 5 mins walk to the beach (plaga) - Do not expect much from this hotel, we arrived at the hotel at 5pm. There no one to open the door as you needed a code to get in. There was a sign at the door to go to a near by hotel. We did and at the reception they took our details and gave us the key to the room, and code for the entrance door.
The room was very tidy, the bathroom has no bath and is very small so if you think you are over weight that is definitely a bathroom you don't want to use.
My room came with a balcony so that was a plus for me.
The bed was comfortable but not good for action (noisy)
The TV works but it says no signals when it comes on.
Will I stay there again? I really don't know:)
- Verified traveler (4/5): Unfortunately not the cleanest choice... - I BOOKED THE SO CALLED SUPERIOR DOUBLE ROOM BUT IT WAS VERY SMALL AND NOT VERY CLEAN. BUT COMPARED TO OTHER CHOICES IN CALAIS IT IS UNFORTUNATELY ONE OF THE ONLY PLACES TO STAY IN CALAIS.
- alec (6/5): Small Hotel on the main street - Very small roos but for the price. Light switch could of been nearer to the bed for if you wanted to get up during the night
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The hotel is very central but the bathroom is too small, there was no hot water and the wifi wasn't working. No insulation between rooms, you can hear people talking next door as if there were in your own room. No staff at reception at any time to provide help.
- Bernadette (6/5): Key Issue - The room was fine, it was clean, the TV barely worked, but this is a lowest budget room, cannot complain about a tiny thing.
The hardest bit was getting the keys and took up half an hour. Firstly the keys are no longer kept at the Pacific hotel on the same street but further away at hotel Belazur. The receptionist was so busy speaking with his Arabic friends in the foyer, I had to phone him on the hotel number on his desk and finally I found out who was the receptionist. I could have stolen the mobile phone left on the desk I assume was his or any number of things around his desk, so deep in conversation he was with his friends and so work shy he was too. Finally I got the key and back I went to the Cidadel, 2 hotels later.
I won't book here again unless I have too, simply due to the difficulty in getting the key.
- Theo (4/5): Clean and everything, but severe lack in serive. - Just stayed for one night before heading on, and it served its purpose. But a severe lack of service and noone to communicate with. Noone answered the phonenumbers they'd left, since there wasn't a reception in the lobby. Noone there to accept the key on check-out so had to left it in the postal box and hoped for the best. Would not come back.
- Verified traveler (2/5): A EVITER ABSOLUMENT !
- Garry (8/5): Short stay - The hotel was a budget priced hotel, but far exceeded our expectations it was spotlessly clean warm and very comfortable, ideal location for local amenities and managed to park just outside the hotel. the only negative was that the hotel didn't have tea and coffee making facilities, even just a kettle would have been good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to Euro tunnel - No sleep... soooo noisy across the road pub. People shouting, dogs barking till very late into night.
- Peter (4/5): Klein und laut. - War leider laut und sehr beengt. Sauberkeit ok.
- Peter (4/5): Winziges, lautes Zimmer - Kleiner Zimmer, winziges Bad.
- Sunny (8/5): Cheap, clean, great location - Cheap and clean hotel right in the Center of action. Close to bars and restaurants. Great for spending a nite.
- Deidre (8/5): - The staff was lovely, friendly and nice.
- Karla (8/5): Great place - The hotel was great, the only negative was that the people in the room beside me were loud and smoking.
- ALLEN (8/5): Good hotel if traveling in the Eurotunel - Small hotel but great for a one night rest if travelling in the eurotunel. Great location just in the high street.
- mel (4/5): No ensuite shower broken totally unacceptable - My experience was not impressed with the hotel the reception we received or the service
- H (4/5): POOR HOTEL IN TOWN CENTRE - SAW STAFF ONLY ONCE WHEN BOOKING IN. STAIRS LONG AND STEEP. NO LIFT
- Caroline (2/5): Disaster - Arrived late, there was no one at the reception so could not check in
- Nial (4/5): 1 night stay SatNow 29.11.14 - Room is very small, bathroom is even smaller and you are unable to really move in it once the door is closed, only 1 power point in the room a long way from the bathroom where the mirror is. There is no where to hang clothes other than on a hook in the bathroom. There was no reception and we had to attend a hotel along the road to get the key. was OK for a quick overnight stay with not much luggage. It was very noisy on a Saturday night as there is a club and late night bar located just down the street. The photos on the website give a deceptive view.
- Kevin (8/5): Nice hotel, Great location! - Very nice hotel, private, felt like home and close to many French restaurants and patisseries. Room was as advertised online and didn't disappoint. Ps bring your own kettle if you fancy a hot drink in your room. Must admit it's my second time staying in this hotel.
- Sue (4/5): Awful - The widows may have been open it was so noisy even though we wee on the second floor (no lift).
The room has a wet room toilet shower pod in the corner which smelt damp and awful.
it was clean, but it was very cheap furniture trying to be something it's definately not.
this was the most expensive accommodation of our three night travel - it was by far the worst.
I was surprised Expedia include this accommodation on their listing... photos and description are very misleading.
- Cajun (8/5): great locale - Found an excellent restaurant just around corner, clean and tidy getting key a bit long winded but all ok, Stairs could be a problem for some as no lift. But clean tidy both rooms and public areas.
- Rachelle (2/5): Beware, don't book the Citadel - The hotel was closed, a note sent us to another. There I buzzed for the receptionist to come, she hardly spoke English. A homeless man and she got into a discussion about him trying to come in. Finally she told us something is wrong with Citadel and we are staying in another hotel around the corner. We went there and it was more a one star studio apartment. We did not go back to complain as it was late and we just needed to sleep before catching our ferry in the morning. In the morning there was no reception, doors locked at the Pacific Hotel. We wanted to ask directions to the ferry but could only drop the key in the mailbox. Unpleasant experience.
- Josh (8/5): Expedia needs to improve their booking process. - We arrived after a days drive hoping to surprise our kids with a hotel room, unfortunately Expedia's ebooking system hadn't got the reservation to the hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful, and did find us a room at last, and the room itself was clean and comfortable though not as big or well-kept as the one we'd booked. This happened after quite a bit of hand-wringing all around, as well as far too much lip service from Expedia. That said, once we got through to someone who could put things right he did very well for us. The most important lesson: speed up your communication with the hotels you work with, Expedia!
