Guest Reviews
- Damian (8/5): A clean and comfortable location from which you can enjoy everything the east coast has to offer. - Marlo was exactly as described, a clean and comfortable unit in an excellent location. Marlo is a little dated and the vista isn’t maximised when inside.
- Crystal (8/5): - White Sands is right on the water and the back deck was lovely. We enjoyed watching the wildlife. The beds were not comfortable and the interior was dated. There are no restaurants close for dinner at night. I wish we could have stayed to visit the winery during the day. We did not have any interaction with the staff except through email but the check-in/out process was easy.
- Jennifer (6/5): Overpriced, out of date and uncomfortable. - Location is beautiful This is a very dated old holiday home in a cluster of similar age where the others have all been modernised.
It feels like walking into G’mas old shack and someone else’s space.
There are no toiletries, instead a used plastic container of soap in shower which shows a complete misunderstanding of hygiene, same with hand wash at basin. The bed is one of those old pseudo homestead ones that creaks every time you roll over. There’s no dishwasher.
- Frank (10/5): - Loved the view from the balcony. Would definately stay there again or recommend it to friends
- Pauline (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (4/5): Disappointing - Fantastic location Needed a thorough clean.curtains fixed, furnishings replaced
- Geoffrey (8/5): Very good -
- Allison (8/5): - Rooms were clean and close to the beach.
- Bianca (8/5): Very good - Excellent views of the beach and coastline. A great base for exploring Freycinet or the Bay of Fires. The resort had great facilities for the kids. Especially the old fashioned cinema. Casey was a great host to deal with. Unfortunately the pool was too cold to swim in, even though it was supposed to be heated. Some parts of the resort and accomodation is quite outdated.
- Anna (7/5): Good -
- David (6/5): Pleasant stay. - Great view.
Easy access to beach.
Washing machine. Fly screens need replacing (mosquitoes).
A soap/ shampoo/ conditioner dispenser in the shower would be handy instead of having to use the bulk refills supplied.
A couple of matched wine glasses would be a nice touch.
Having to boil drinking water.
- Nicholas (8/5): Cosy little cabin but have all the basics you need for a comfortable stay! - Location was good - between St Helen’s and Bicheno
- Hayley (7/5): Overall we had a great time! - Location was perfect, lots to do for kids More staples in cupboard like sauce, butter, milk, no shops close by.
House was quite hot, fans would have been great
- Carolyn (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Wonderful location and the coast all around is exceptional. Peaceful nights. - No breakfast. Wonderful location If the resort was open and had lunch and dinner available.
- jacqueline (2/5): - Stayed and visited numerous times. I was unable to find any information about opening times concerning the brewery and restaurant. I assumed restaurant would be open from our previous visits. Unfortunately, Restaurant and bar close at 4 and not open Thurs night. In order to eat we had to travel 20 minutes so instead we travelled 40 minutes back to our previous nights' accommodation that had everything we needed including a large TV and more importantly a restaurant . Very disappointing. A beautiful place but be advised to check on facilities that might not be open.
- Eric (6/5): - This property is lacking some key things. You do not have WiFi in your unit, only if you go to the cafe, which closed at 4:00pm. We had no access to anything for dinner, so had to drive 20 minutes to pick up a frozen pizza. The water is not drinkable without boiling. These are basic things that a place of this type should have.
- Jill (10/5): - Beautiful location and superior accomodation.
- Jane (10/5): - Beautiful unit spotlessly clean
Ocean views and great brewery!
- Sara (10/5): - Gorgeous pool, loads of activities for the kids.
- Elissa (10/5): - Everything at your door step, I will definitely be back, just in better weather so I can utilise the facilities
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic property, great villa with awesome views to wake up to. Awesome restaurant and facilities.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fully self contained, clean cabin, with decking; overlooking the pristine beach and the crystal clear ocean water.
The kitchen has stove top, oven and microwave, two fridges and all the necessities to entertain. The two bedrooms in Villa 2, contained a double bed, and the bathroom has recently been renovated. The floor to ceiling bifolding doors take advantage of the views. In a few words, 'absolutely beautiful'.
- Jeanette (10/5): - Excellent place to relax and unwind. Beautiful setting. Service and food amazing
- Ian (8/5): Great east coast location - The location is stunning, one of the best locations in Tasmania. the restaurant and beer/wine/spirit tasting room are modern and well set out. However the cabins are a little dated, they are clean and comfortable, but in urgent need of updating
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rooms where private and comfortable, although our room was a bit dated.
- L (8/5): - Excellent facilities at this property including extra large heated pool, cinema and family friendly restaurant with indoor play area. Drinking water has to be purchased though, as the tap water is not potable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love White Sands. This was my 4th stay and never disappointed. Units are spacious and furniture comfortable. The balcony/verandas are fabulous. Only thing I would suggest, is to add umbrella or shade to the rest of the units. We stayed in No. 23 and really missed having the shade this time.
- Grant (10/5): - Fabulous views, very peaceful, outstanding facilities including brewery and wine tastings. The evening meal was beautifully presented and delicious. The pool was heated and had there been no wind-chill factor we would have taken the plunge. We will return.
- Steve (10/5): - Fantastic location!
My wife and i have stayed here many times. We have also bought our children when they were younger.
A little piece of paradise.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Website essentially false advertising- heated pool not effectively heated for swimming.
Canoe lake closed dowen so no boating.
So called games room one sad table tennis table with saggy net.
Rooms bare, no carpet, cold. Very small ceiling mounted tv uncomfortable to watch.
Food in restaurant overpriced.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fabulously situated right on the Beach. - Half an hour South of St Helens and a half hour North of Bicheno. Very quiet, fantastic facilities. Would be excellent for families. Our 2 bedroom accommodation had a huge deck with Ocean views. Restaurant was OK too.
- noel (10/5): only one night stay - excellent location. Views are incredible up and down east coast. Restaurant food good, service excellent.
- Noel (8/5): Anniversary celebration - Totally enjoyable stay!..Room very clean, all staff pleasant obliging,..the dinners we had each night were supurb(couldn't fault a thing) well done Chef!...will definately stay again. Cheers,...Noel & Pam.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Food in restaurant very bad. Too salty. Battered fish overcooked. Other food also disappointing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beach on your doorstep and restaurant amazing
Would love to go back and spend more
Time there
- Relles (10/5): Fabulous Facilities - Our family stayed here in January for 3 nights on our first visit to Tasmania. Our villa was fantastic with bi-folding doors that offered beautiful views of the ocean and opened onto a spacious deck.
The resort pool is 5 star, and all the other facilities that the resort offered kept our 4 children busy. We especially loved the cinema. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious and all the staff at the resort were friendly and helpful.
Wish we could have stayed longer.
Thanks for a wonderful holiday experience.
- madelene (10/5): - Great for the kids. I would like to see a gym for the adults. I think it just needs something else for the adults
- Aliitasi (10/5): - Happy
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic for families - Great rooms with huge decks and so many activities included for the kids. Beautiful pool, gorgeous private beach, cinema is great for a rainy day. Highly recommend.
- Debra (8/5): - The resort was more than expected...especially with the Ironhouse Brewery attached...loved the tastings. Having a restaurant on the premises was so convenient. No drinking and driving issues. Only let down was the god awful sulphur smell (odour of wrotten eggs) coming off the beach and permeated everything.
- Bruce (8/5): Good family resort - Plenty of facilities for families and will only get better as the grounds mature and more facilities are being added
- Radu (10/5): one night stay - Stayed at one of the apartments with ocean view. Very spacious, clean, comfy bed, huge deck with lounge chairs to relax, had a very pleasant stay. Definitely recommend this to anyone
- trudi (10/5): Serenity - So quiet ..close to the beach..just what we needed as a battery charger
- Verified traveler (8/5): lovely location - Stayed on-site as part of conference. it was a beautiful location and the dinner prepared by the venue was very good.
- Nicole (10/5): Great for families or couples. - Very friendly service. Wonderful ocean view from our oversized deck. Very well equipped and extremely clean. Although it was just my husband & I on this visit, it would be a perfect place for families. We went to the restaurant for dinner and give it a 5 star rating. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable about local produce and wines.
- johanna (8/5): - Really good. Restaurant excellent. View fantastic
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed because of the festival of voices. Excellent venue and will be sure to return again.
- Anthony (6/5): - Needs updating cabin looked old and cold beds was uncomforable. Does have full kitchen and uncover parking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice restaurant rooms tired - Restaurant was great unfortunately the brewery was closed.
Rooms are tired and still in the 60's
- Brian (8/5): Pleasant restful stay - A great place to recuperate after a busy Easter with wonderful views of the ocean & easy access to a stroll along the beach. A full kitchen with large fridge, oven & cook-top provided all the equipment needed for a self-contained break.
- Grace (10/5): It is a beautiful spot for a quite time away. - The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are tidy and clean, love the smell of the clean bed sheets and the extra large balcony . Sensational views, especial at sunset ......
- Damian (10/5): Good families/couples destination. - Facilities were excellent for both children and adults. Service was prompt and informative. The lady looking after guests at dinner had a tremendous memory, both her and the gentleman also looking after diners were excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Really relaxing - Thoroughly enjoyed it will be back later this year
- cameron (8/5): The view was the best. - New major facilities like the restaurant, pool, brewery, winery and cinema were fantastic.
We had a cheaper option and wish we went with a better unit as it was a bit outdated but suitable, clean and quiet. The view made up for every bit of it.
Staff were great friendly, helpful and proffessional.
Our overnight stay was capped off with the nice meal, wine and beer tasting and a walk on the private beach at dawn.
If you want a great family holiday this suits, if you want a romantic weekend then stay off season and get the better units on offer.
- Sharryn (6/5): Disappointed on arrival - Booked a standard family unit that was in original condition & was inhabitable in my opinion. Had to ask for an upgrade to a deluxe room & pay for upgrade. Water had to be boiled before drinking. None of this is mentioned on websites. Beware before booking.
- Donna (6/5): Won't stay again - Out dated.... not so,clean.... staff not that friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): It's a nice hotel & beautiful beach. - we were meeting nice staffs. it is very comfortable accommodation facilities. it is a nice place for holiday. it's so close to beach. you can watch sunrise & enjoy your breakfast at the deck at the same time. but the internet signal was very wick, even for Telstra net work. It could be better for there is a washing machine and a dryer in each unit. It feels a little be too far from nearby town centre.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent location. Friendly check in. - Excellent location. Friendly check in. Didn't get a chance to try the restaurant. Wine and beer excellent. Coffee was poor.
- Bernie (10/5): Beautiful - Beautiful place to stay, great facilities and lovely helpful staff. Thoroughly recommend, next time we will book in for longer.
- allison (10/5): Must See - Great views, great food, great staff, great facilities, great rooms.. cannot recommend this place highly enough!
- Peter (6/5): Mosie heaven! - Great dining, very good quality and drinks. Room was an issue as spent almost an hour through the night killing mosquitos and removing blood from the walls. Careless house keeping I suspect - a warning or insecticide might have helped!
- Peter (10/5): Pleasantly surprised - Welcoming staff. Very relaxing atmosphere. Clean units. Nice pool. Great restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by all of this.
- Kevin (8/5): Room with a view - Nice stay with natures animals present every night along the foreshore
- Juanita (10/5): Relaxing spot with great facilities - Cabin was bright clean with amazing views from every window. Bifold doors opening the living area to the deck. Added bonus to have a carport for our vehicle.
- Steve (10/5): Beautiful beachside location. - This is a fantastic place to stay and very spacious.
- chris (8/5): Excellent holiday resort - Isolated but heaps to do on site. Great for families during summer. Very quiet during winter. Brewery is great and food is good.
- Jacky (8/5): - Very pleasant. Tidy and clean room, slightly older style but very comfortable.
- bridget (10/5): Fantastic, family friendly holiday - We had a fantastic break at White Sands with our 5 young children. Lots of family friendly activities and facilities and a wonderful bar and restaurant as well. We will definitely be back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Later we found that we may have been entitled to a Senior's discount, but we weren't told prior to booking or on arrival..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful location. We will defiantly stay here again.
- Arthur (10/5): Perfect place - Great unit, fantastic brewery. Plenty to do fishing, tennis ,canoeing and great pool
- Ginny (10/5): The nicest surprise - The only thing between our chalet and the bar/restaurant/brewery...was the outdoors heated pool ! Brilliant !!
- Jennifer (8/5): Family oriented motel units with many actiivities - This motel resort complex of villas has a nice restaurant and multiple on site activities. Just as well as it is in the middle of nowhere. So I was glad to eat a nice meal there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): accommodation - Room was big and views were spectacular. Restaurant food and staff were good.
- Stuart (10/5): Short stay - Very pleasant place to stay, we only had one night, but we would have enjoyed three or four nights there for sure.
Restaurant food was excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): close to beach and facilities - very relaxing. international standards. very impressed. well kept secret of the East Coast
- David (10/5): Sensational experience. - White Sands Estate is the nicest place I have stayed at in years. The views from every angle on the property are beautiful. I love the natural finish of the grounds as do the wallabies. The pool is perfect for working off a couple of the places finest beers (the wheat beer is 10 points). If you like relaxing then this is the resort for you. I shall be returning ASAP.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great facilities with friendly staff. Able to use pool etc even after check-out.
Brewery complex and added bonus.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice facilities. Swimming pool is very nice. - Wonderful time. Its a good place to have holiday with family no network coverage means good holiday.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very nice place will come back again - Lovely place with amazing view of the beach and the sea. Very good condition and services. Had some problems with the TV and the one of the lights originally, which the TV was quickly fixed by the staff and the light has been replaced the next day. Very nice swimming pool but unfortunately haven't got enough time to enjoy.
The restaurant also got very nice view and good food, however maybe due to the holiday season they don't have a lot of staff so they were very busy. It is also a brewery, so the bar offers beer tasting which I will recommend.
Will love to stay longer next time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Certainly came as a surprise to us as be booked it late in the day just needing somewhere to sleep. Our stay was one of the best we had in Tassie. We enjoyed the dinner at the restaurant, with its beautiful views. We did the beer tasting and tried their wine and were rather impressed with it all. We certainly recommend this spot to all. Could not fault this place really.
- Cherie (10/5): Great facilities and location - Loved the location of our villa. Was right on the beachfront with beautiful views. Room was lovely, with plenty of space. Fantastic deck overlooking the ocean. Everything was spotlessly clean. Unfortunately we only stayed overnight, so didn't get a chance to use the pool or other facilities, but they looked great.
- Alice (10/5): Beautiful hotel - The hotel and its location was very nice and so close the beach. The guest amenities are excellent. It was our first time to stay in this hotel and pity we only stayed there for one night. This was the best place we stayed at during our 2-week driving holiday in Tasmania. The only negative comment I can give is the smell of the septic when we were walking on the beach.
- david (10/5): Excellent location for relaxing break - Terrific location for relaxing and watching beach and wildlife and fishing. Staff were very helpful and beer tasting was great.
- Hrisanthi (10/5): Sojourn to White Sands.. - My son & I had a fabulous stay. Our apartment looked out onto the crashing waves and we could hear the roar day and night. It was so serene and rejuvenating!
The restaurant was excellent and the house sparkling a treat. We would definitely visit again. Unfortunately due to an injury we could not partake in the many activities available, but everyone else looked like they were having a wonderful time!!
- Lisa C (10/5): Awesome accommodation - All staff go above and beyond to accommodate all guests we had a romantic getaway for our 9 year anniversary but our 2 children tagged along and had an awesome time can't rate this accommodation high enough the customer service is amazing and is one of its kind in Australia the attention to detail with customers belongs in a 5 star intercontinental accommodation thanks guys :)
