Guest Reviews
- Shaina (10/5): - Very friendly unique stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): I would have slept in my truck instead of here. - Arrived at Sandpiper to find urine on toilet seat and blood splatters on sheets. Management was kind and helpful and moved us to new room. New room had dog poop (a lot of dog poop) on the enclosed patio dirt area. The room smelled of feces. Management was contacted again and we were promised a full refund. Spoke with owner and he was very apologetic. I was not going to post this review because I know it will hurt the owner;s business; however, promises were not kept and after waiting 9 days I have not received the promised credit to my credit card.
- Layla (10/5): - The staff could not have been more helpful in meeting our special needs for a super early morning check in (4 am) and a late check out. Above and beyond the call of duty!
- jong won (2/5): - I don't recommand to stay.
- Carl (10/5): Where to stay in Desert Hot Springs - I was very impressed with the level of customer service provided by everyone here. They went out of their way to support my stay. They are kind, courteous and accommodating. I would gladly stay there again!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - New Orleans post Katrina looked better than this “hotel”. The pictures online did not accurately show what a garbage dump this place was. We originally booked a 3 night stay and after one night we had to check out immediately the next morning. And then they proceeded to charge me for the full price of the stay even though we only stayed one night. Sleeping in your car would be a better option than staying at this place. You’ve. Been. Warned.
- BRENDA (2/5): - No hot water for shower. At 2:00am water came pouring down from the floor above us into the bathroom. Bathroom was flooded luckily most of the water landed in the shower area. When we reported this to the hotel owner he said someone should have told you about the hot water not working when you checked in. He was the one that checked us in the night before. I told him that the bathroom was flooded and kept us up all night while the water poured out of the ceiling and he stated thanks for the heads up Ill look into that. I informed him that we were not able to shower because there was no hot water and he stated well you should've waited a little longer for the water to heat up. We ran the water for awhile and it never heated up.Bad customer service from the hotel owner.
- MIGUEL (4/5): Not bad, but not Great! - The property is run down but it looks like they are working to freshen it up. We didnt feel completely safe with only a doorknob to lock the door. The employee unlocked the door without knocking in the morning which surprised us. Even though the property is old, it was clean and the beds were soft but comfortable enough. I hope they keep improving the property. I would still consider returning if they continue with improvements.
- peter (2/5): - The motel was fully booked so they didn’t have a room for us to stay in.
- Osiris (2/5): - The property needs to be more clean and fix a lot of stuff in the rooms. I need to have an office where you could get check-in.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Great mineral water, spacious room, friendly and accommodating staff.
- Fred (10/5): Great spa facilities - Nice spa facilities, staff member, manager helpful and caring.
- David (10/5): - The manager Les is really kind and helpful.
He has lots of local knowledge and gave me great advice.
- James (4/5): - Extremely high rates for said property.
A/C, microwave did not work
No water in shower
No hot water
Blinds do not worl
- Ashley (2/5): - Ths size of the room was fantastic for working every day. There was also an outdoor area and afew pools and spas.
Customer service was fantastic.
The room and cutlery/crockery was unclean and property out of date with old/broken items.
- Fred (8/5): Fred - Very nice people very helpful and caring. Spa areS were very good.
- Sandra (4/5): - There was no dining 1 hotbtub outside was cold like the pool it did have 1 hot inside some closed door but all the other things were shut down , sream sauna , showers , nothing but 1 HOT tub it was cold when i arrived i asked the owner to make sure it was hot upon my 30 minute wait to get a room !! It was hot when i went back ! My room smelled like piss and lysol it was horrible, cold tile floors beds were uncomfortable, very different from the pictures and description there was a 1 inch gap in my window in the kitchen that was taped and had blown off allowingthe 80 mph winds to blow theu .yes they fixed it by cutting a 1 inch slich from a Payneof glass and taped it together i have great pictures,
go to Miracle springs.
Bout 5 minutes away at leats 5-7 hot tubs hot tubs clean mineral water, nice rooms , friendly staff , food!! Everything you pay for and more!!
- Allan (6/5): - Large room, table with 4 fabric chairs, kitchen, some bathroom renovations, mineral water hot tubs.
Exterior needs some work
- Randy Scott (2/5): - Really surprised this property is on Expedia. I thought it was a mistake when I pulled up. It looks abandoned from the outside. Junk left outside, weeds growing in landscape beds, etc. I couldn't cancel because I had made the reservation that day, but there was no way I was going to stay, especially for the listed price. Not even close to worth $125. The lady working there was very nice and seemed genuinely embarrassed when I told her I wouldn't be staying. She wasn't part of the ownership, so I won't criticize her. She was just trying to do her job.
- Erica (10/5): Fantastic spot to stay - I loved my stay in a 1954 Boles Alero trailer. It was so cute and comfortable. The RV park was clean, pretty and very safe and quiet. Great staff too!
- James (2/5): Is it1960? - Never again, I can’t even believe they can list this as a spa and retreat. Maybe if it was 1960. So old and unprofessional. We got there around 5pm and the gal said who did you book with. I said Hotel.com and she said oh we don’t have a room ready. So she said give me 30 minutes and then she is running around like crazy trying to clean a room. An older man came over and said we didn’t realize it was a holiday weekend so we don’t have any rooms clean. What!! She finally got it cleaned and then the tv doesn’t work so she goes and gets another tv and it finally works. So NOISY!! At 7 in the morning a ton of kids are running around screaming and jumping in the pool. At 7 AM!! The place is so dirty and run down. There is a 1in gap under the door and dirt and dust just blows in. Would NEVER stay here again. A room with laundry has the door open and laundry all over the ground and the office is unorganized and dirty also.
- Sergio (10/5): - The facilities agent was very professional and courteous. The place is clean and organized, but aged. As long as that’s not an issue, it’s a fine place to stay.
- HYUN JOON (2/5): - They are unfriendly
- Laurian (8/5): - Room was nice and larger than expected. All rooms are poolside. Liked the setup at the resort. The pool and jacuzzis were wonderful. The water was amszing. Staff was friendly and very accommodating!
- Hye Jin (10/5): - Hidden gem. Nice pool for family. Clean pools and nice staff.
Kitchen need some improvement but its ok for family simple short vacation.
- Seoyoung (10/5): - 온천하면서 간단히 식사도 해서 먹을수 있는 곳이라 좋았다.
- Tanya (10/5): - The owner is very kind and friendly. The housekeeper DeeDee is beyond great. The pool and spas are very clean. Overall we had a great stay and will be returning.
- Dawn (8/5): Interesting - This hotel is a diamond in the ruff. The property needs work. The hot tubs and pool are beautiful.
- Wendy (2/5): Refused service because of a scorn manager - The manager is a ride grudge holding female who was overly friendly the first time I was there and the when I tried to go back she said she couldnt rent me a room because some dude dissed her cause she keep bugging him and wanted to kick it with me and human are never a reason to trip I told her nobody was worth acting rude and unprofessional the owner made a mistake with making this
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great time great price - Stay was great ..great price..the lady in the lobby had great customer service .super helpful with everything ..the security guard at night was a plus ...all the bad reviews are from the previous management ..new management has maintain this place well..
- Christian (8/5): A decent bang for your buck. - The sand piper was a quick trip, last minute, it was inexpensive, close to what we were up to for the day. Nothing fancy, but we were there just to sleep. For the price it was safe, decent and good people.
- Gladys (2/5): - When I wanted to check in, my room was unavailable because the shower in my bathroom was not fixed. And they had no more rooms to accommodate me. And their credit card chip wasn’t working either.
- Russ (2/5): Never, ever stay here - Landlord did not honor valid reservation, which was acknowledged, in a high season with no other availability discoverable within 15 miles of desert resort. Would drop them from system
- Bladimir (6/5): - decent
- Ronit (2/5): - The photos make the place look quirky, as if it has character. Unfortunately its that the building and the property is run down, very unkept, dirty and broken. For $275 average a night, we were unable to shower due to broken plumbing, broken door to the patio, broken curtains that were not even staying on the windows, blood stained sheets with cigarette burns in it, drawers filled with trash and body hairs, the bathrooms had trash in the shower, drawers, and body hairs everywhere. the rooms are over all run down with kitchens that do not work. they switched us to another room but it had most of the same problems and even added a fridge that was not working. the pools were dirty with run down furniture and trash everywhere. The owner Les could not have cared less. he made every excuse for tge building he inherited a year ago, but the condition and cleanliness are easy fix. Pipes take time, but tge conditions of tge property and cleanliness are easy fixes as long as you care enough to do it. Even if it was entirely out of his control, at least do your best to make amends for the terrible customer experience. I have been in customer service management for many years and have made more positive reviews than bad 10 times over. There is nothing good to say about this place, especially the owner. I just pray there are no bed bugs here 😞
- Wildo (2/5): Very dirty room - No hot water no lights in bathroom
No one in front desk everything by phone messages never reply our request
- Mitzi (2/5): - Stephanie at the front desk was very nice, as was the plumber who came up to inspect the leaky pipes in the bathroom and kitchenette. That said, this place is truly a dump. It honestly looks like it hasn’t been kept up in decades. Multiple decades. Someone either needs to buy the property, tear down the entire building and just start from scratch, or invest god knows how much into renovating what’s already here. If it were me, I’d tear it down and start from scratch. It’s really that bad. The staff is doing the best they can under the circumstances, and I don’t fault them at all, unless they are also the owners, in which case they should know better than to charge $140 for the night. This is more like $40 for a night, just so that the lights can be kept on. I’ve never left a review like this before.
- Soeun (4/5): - There lived long term resident. Living with dog. Pop around facility. Bathroom facet was broken . Steam spa room doesn’t work .
- Keva (10/5): - The staff was very helpful and accommodating.
- Edith (2/5): - This hotel is not being maintained. I complained to Expedia about it as I expect good hotels from your listings. The photo given did not reflect the true state of the building. I had to spend rest of my vacation day searching for anoth
- Joseph (2/5): - A horror!
No one was at the office to check in, so we left and drove on to another hotel.
- Alejandro (6/5): - The website said all rooms have a kitchen, ours did not and did not even have a microwave, no room service, no cable. Outdated design. The room was clean and served its purpose since we were thier for hiking in JTNP. But lacked luster.
- PONG (10/5): - It's a spa, but the water is too cold
- David (6/5): - The outside areas are cluttered and seem in disrepair and disheveled. The front desk clerk was eager and helpful. We were disappointed in the room and wish the property owners good luck in improving the property for future customer visits.
- Nathan A (4/5): - Owner was friendly but property needs some major remodeling. There was not WiFi as described that was advertised. Water did not get cold and was only hot water. The shower head was shorter than a 5 foot 11 inch man so I had to bend down to wash my hair. In order to get clean linens to have to chase down an employee that lives or stays on site so you have to walk the other side. So inconvenient.
- Jon (2/5): Over booked - Our reservation was cancelled by the hotel because they over booked. There were no more hotels within our budget so we had to drive 3 hours back home at 9pm. Not happy. The outside of the hotel looked like a makeshift prison so maybe it was a good thing.
- Mary Grace (8/5): - Property was an excellent choice for convenience between Joshua Tree & Palm Springs. Staff was WONDERFUL. Room was clean. Cabinet door was off a hinge, the room door was hard to lock ... small things that represent an overall need to fix stuff. Would have liked a better tour of facility and amenities but checked in late in the evening.
- izzy (2/5): - Expertia the worst app to use for planning. I will not recommend it to anyone. They have unethical and savage business pro. They have cancelled my reservation without any explanation on the very day i was suppose to spend my night after a long trip at Palm Spring . They did have a courtesy to offer any reasonable accommodation. i had to spend the night sleeping in my car. i have the email if you don’t believe it .
- Michael (2/5): - Scariest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. This hotel is nothing like the description. People standing outside all night. Adjourning rooms where you hear the other room’s tv all night. Absolutely don’t stay here
- Maria (2/5): - Building is full of homeless and it’s broken down
- Larry (8/5): - was treated well. place is old and funky, otherwise had a good stay
- Sumira (2/5): - Arrived at 9:30 and could not find the lobby as it was not labeled. Eventually asked someone who was walking around and they let us know the owner was staying in one of the rooms. The individual who answered that door had a bloody wound on his face, stank of drugs, and told us he had no idea how to handle travelocity reservations. He had no idea what was going on at all and could not speak in complete sentences or remember anything. After 45 minutes we were given a room. Completely inaccurate listing for the property. The photos were nothing like what it looked like in person. Most of the amenities listed did not exist. Most of the units were used as long term apartment rentals. Those tenants included someone who tried to sell us drugs. A woman dressed like a street walker arrived and knocked on four different doors before someone let her in. Many tenants had loud barking dogs, including one who walked their dog within the pool area where law prohibits pets altogether. The hot spring pools were not clean and far too cold to use anyway. The entire property was in ruins and looked more like a dumping ground for random junk. There were about 12 broken grills along with piles of outdoor furniture pieces littering the exterior. Our room contained two mini fridges (one was broken), an open and used bar of soap, and one towel covered with brown stains for a 4 person room with two queen beds. Several rounds of gun shots from at least four different firearms were disch
- daniel (2/5): Can't Recommend - Do not stay. Place is run down and not safe.
- Michael (4/5): Never again - Old live roaches smelled clean but very worn
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The price was right so I booked. The pictures looked decent. When we got there I realized the pictures were very old. No phone in the room, no in room coffee or even coffee in the lobby, run down property, lousy bed, and if there was no one in the office you had to call someone on your own phone to get help. Would not return or recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - If you know what to expect this place is neat. Retro 50s hotel with large rooms, a bit run-down overall but it was clean and the mineral pool and spas are pristine and a very nice feature. Location is a bit off the beaten path but a quick drive to the main business area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - flashback to the 1960's xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- Brian (10/5): Getaway - Older funky property. Seems be being on a fixer upper. Nice pools. Gated parking. Nice staff and guests
- Sher (6/5): - We booked for Valentines weekend (which was also a holiday weekend) and found the pickings pretty slim. We wanted hot tubs since both of us have some issues and being able to soak after a long day having fun is a plus. I read the reviews for this hotel so my expectations were low.
Pros
- The room was huge. the rooms have two queen beds/kitchenette. Bathroom also a good size with lots of hanging room.
-There was a nice seating area right outside our room that was a nice place to sit and drink coffee in the morning.
-There was a pool and 3 hot tubs outside. Two of the hot tubs were under a patio cover. There was also a hot tub in a separate room. This also contained showere and a dry sauna. All of them were mineral water. And HOT.
-the room was very clean
-The staff was extremely nice and accommodating.
Cons
-The decor is very outdated and kinda thrown together. Empty shelves, random furniture.
-We decided to use the softest bed. Unfortunately there was some kind of pad that made yiy felll like you were sliding off the bed.
-One of the hot tubs was right below our rooms. The first morning there were kids around 4 years old in the hot tub at 7:30 am. The second morning they were in the hot tub at 6:30 AM. The mom mentioned how nice it was not having to give the kids baths.
-shower had no pressure and hot water ran out.
-Last night our quiet hot tub time was cut short by staff friends.
Undecided if we would stay again.
- Juanita (8/5): Happy place, with nice mineral baths - Nice quiet place. Reasonably priced. Very clean.
Great managers!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hot Tubs and pool were great! That is the best Part, otherwise the place seemed a little bit run down . There were 5 tv channels and they lost the Kids channel after one day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Every thing is excellent very clean room and
Very kind office manager people.
Water was hot and clean.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Decent if you are desperate, more like a motel... - At first glance we wanted to leave, but all the hotels in the area were oddly expensive for the weekend...I was excited to use the mineral baths, but didn't trust the cleanness or the location so opted-out.
1.The employee was friendly.
2. They use physical keys which is a bad sign.
3.Paint chipping and not clean like a chain hotel.
4. Seedy city and didn't feel safe.
- John (4/5): - The pool and jacuzzis were awesome, very quier place. But we left one day before checkout because the rooms need some serious updates. The rooms smell so bad. Everything is old. The beds are so uncomfortable and old, two pillows on each bed and the pillows are like rocks so hard. The matresses are spring matresses and stink so bad. You cannot get a good rest sleep. Your body will hurt the next day. I loved the pool and the 4 jacuzzis they were great and relaxing. I would go back if they remodeled the rooms. The AC is so old, it does not cooldown the room and it was 110+ outside the Ac is super loud and does not work properly. I wanted to love the place but the rooms really take away how great this place could be. Also i think they rent like apartment rental maybe that's why they do not remodel the rooms. The rooms are super stinky. If you are looking to rest i would not recommend. I Would only pay for a day pass to enjoy the pool and jacuzzis. Also the Saunas were not working.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property had a variety of mineral water jaccuzi’s - a not too hot jacuzzi, hot hot hot jucuzzi, a cold water jacuzzi, a full sized pool, and a wet and dry sauna. What more could you ask for. Yet the staff were the kindest most compassionate people you could ever meet!
- Jason (8/5): Easy and simple hotel. - Overall no frills hotel. The grounds were nice and family friendly. We only needed a place to sleep for 6 hours before heading out early the next morning. Parking is limited within the "gates" so if coming in late, you have to park on the street. The hotel is on a side street so doesn't feel as "secure" as it could be. I would stay there again,
- Carol (2/5): Don’t bother - The front entrance was a security door that looked like it belonged in a third world country. An abandoned, falling down structure added to the rundown atmosphere. The room was fairly clean but shabby. Missing paint, peeling contact paper, drawers that didn’t fit, etc.
- Christine (6/5): - Beds were clean and comfortable. Bathroom clean. Rooms are very old and furniture is very sparse and unmatched. Kitchen had nice frig and stove, toaster, but cabinets are broken and there was one plate, one fork and knife, one cup, no cookware or coffee maker and only the bottom of a blender. Difficult to find light switch (not by the entry door) and plugs for charging.
- Krystal (10/5): Very nice - Great little place to stay!!
- Catherine (4/5): - It was ok! The sandpiper is run down .. nothing at all like the picture.. not very clean ! No coffee pot or microwave and they have a bee 🐝 hive bye the stairs
- Jillian (6/5): Okay stay for the price - The hotel needs a lot of work. There wasn’t a daily housekeeper. When we asked when we could get the trashed picked they asked us to leave it outside and it blew away and trash was all over the floor. The WiFi didn’t work at all and we were still asked to tip the cleaning service at the end of our stay?
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great pools, be prepared for VERY basic rooms - To start with the positive: we were very happy with the pools (1 big one, and 4 smaller ones of varying temperatures using waters from the natural springs below) and the fact that there were so few people there that we more or less had the place to ourselves. The hotel itself, however, left something to be desired. In a word, it was quite shabby. Our kitchenette had only 1 of 4 burners working, a sink with no drain covering (exposing a scary sounding garbage disposal), no dishes or cutlery or cooking supplies, and drawers that didn't all work (not that it mattered, I guess, considering the state of the rest of it). The 2 beds in our room had 4 nearly flat pillows across them, the bathroom 4 very basic and smallish towels and two tiny bars of soap. Maid service nonexistent unless you specifically asked for it. The small staff were very nice and tried (but didn't always succeed) to accommodate our various requests for more pillows, more towels, cups and mugs to drink out of, etc, but I have a feeling they were working from a meagre start (they are not the owners). As for the owners, I hate to say it but they seem to be pretty negligent. They would have to do very, very little to bring this place up to a much higher (if still basic 2-star) standard just on the rooms alone -- never mind the overall state of the grounds, which have rusting gates, peeling paint and cracked concrete. I really wish they would. It has all the potential to be a modernist gem.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Economy with mineral springs - We stayed at this hotel as a "last resort," pun intended. It's not in the best of condition, but the room with kitchenette was large, clean and comfortable. I would stay there again if necessary, but I'd prefer a place more freshly decorated and up to date. Nothing was terribly bad, just rather shabby. It was great to have a large refrigerator and full size range in the kitchenette. There were only two place settings of plates, flatware etc, and no forks. I asked the manager about that last point. If I remember right, he said they don't provide cookware, dishes and flatware except for long term stays. There just happened to be some left in the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Spacious and friendly hot spring hotel - The hotel was great for our family. We had two large rooms connected by a kitchenette and right in front of the pools. The only drawback here was there were very few towels, no cups, hairdryer, coffee maker, etc. the kitchenette has a full size refrigerator, stove, and microwave, but you must provide your own pots, cups, etc. overall, a great stay. My kids loved it!
- kelly (6/5): Do not stay here!!! - You could tell the room had not been cleaned it quite some time. Woke up Saturday morning to some guy in the kitchen area (entered through a connecting door we couldn't lock). Spend a little more money and stay somewhere else!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Well Received - The room was well furnished and spacious. It contains a mini kitchen with a stove and a refrigerator. The restroom was well lit. The curtains of windows were coming off the sliding hinges but they closed well enough for privacy. The queen beds and sofa were comfy. The enclosed swimming pool was clear and nice along with a jacuzzi outside of the fence to its left. The view of the night and day sky were beautiful as well. Overall stay was great.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Over priced and underwhelming - The property was quite run down and the towels were old and some were stained. The pools appeared to be clean. Rooms were outdated and the kitchenette had nothing in it (no glasses, cutlery, place settings, etc). Looked like a place where backpackers on a budget go. Certainly WAY OVERPRICED for what we got but we were desperate and glad to have a bed.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Outdated but great customer service. - The customer service here is fantastic and the woman at the front desk is very helpful and accommodating.
The room itself left much to be desired. The sheets were stained. The Sandpiper would be a great spot if they applied a new coat of paint and updated the furniture.
Location wise, it's in a residential neighborhood but is a quick drive in to Palm Springs.
- Molly (10/5): Fun unique hotel - It is an unusual hotel, and definitely family run. The rooms are super large and the mattresses are amazing tempurpedic. The owner is very friendly and helpful and eager to please. The pools were a bit crowded dos me in the evening, but they do allow you to use them pretty much whenever as long as you're quiet at night. Great kitschy place.
- Verified traveler (2/5): No, No, and No! Do not Stay! - The Sandpiper Resort was at onetime, back in the day, a nice resort, but now, not so much. We had a corner room on the second floor with two double beds and mini kitchen. The room was quite dusty, beds were very uncomfortable, sheets had worn out bloodstains on them, and bedbugs, we were itching all night---- not fun! The bathtub did not look clean and the shower curtain was full of mildew and mold. It was definitely not worth the price of $120 a night. You would be better off at the Motel 6!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Relaxing motel and spa - We enjoyed our stay at the Sandpiper motel, but not for the reasons you may be looking for. We liked the 50s-60s motel, the naturally hot water spa, the swimming pool, the terrace with pingpong table, the large room with kitchenette, dining area and balcony, the old Sandpiper sign turning with the wind, the views of the desert below, the location...The bed were comfortable and unlimited WiFi + cable TV were included. It was very relaxing, the pools are a wonder, people actually talk to you (didn't see one person with a cell phone), overall good mood/friendly place. We had a good time and totally disconnected from our busy city life. This said, we were expecting a little bit more when it comes to the room itself. The bathroom was not great: bathtub had rust, only one towel per person, no mat or washcloths. The door was stuck, we had to give it several pushes every time we needed to open it. The room felt very stuffy when we came in and we had to open all windows to let air in. The kitchenette oven was not cleaned (old food in it), the fridge wasn't making enough cold. There were only a couple of spoon, one mug, no paper towels, etc. The manager (or owner) told us, they were remodeling (I guess our room wasn't remodeled yet), and we hope so. Remodeled, it would be a great little hotel and we would come back anytime. Even if not totally remodeled, but with better attention to service, cleanness, some amenities, it would be a good place to stay. Great for families too.
