Guest Reviews
- Peter (10/5): - Great place and a view that cannot be beat. Perfect for little getaway this past weekend. Already thinking about when we can return.
- Nancy (10/5): - Had great view of water from balcony. Also plenty of comfortable seating for sunset views. Had a room with mini frig, microwave and coffeemaker.
- Michael (8/5): - The location was a bit remote. The staff and view were excellent and the room ok. Did not use; so cannot rate housekeeping. Don’t over expect on breakfast, it’s coffee and tea, orange juice and pastry only. With that said, we would be inclined to maybe stay again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Debbie (8/5): - Pleasent place to stay. We loved the veiw from our room, balcony.
- Daniel (10/5): - Beautiful secluded property right on Green Bay.
- Paula (10/5): Best little resort in Egg Harbor - We have always stayed on the other side and booked Egg Harbor this trip .This quant resort was just lovely. Fresh rolls and coffee in the morning and fresh towels if needed. Great sunsets and fire pits. Friendly staff. We will be back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Rustic Location - The Shallows Resort was nice and quiet, located near the bay. Picturesque. The room was comfortable, especially the bed. All appeared clean, however the room did have a musty smell throughout our entire stay.
- Melisser (10/5): - New owners, still the same great place to stay!
- Paul (10/5): - Nice and clean place. Next to the water with bon fire pits to sit and watch the sunset. Convenient gas grills near the rooms.
- Dedra (10/5): - Beautiful place to stay. Its a little off the beaten path so is quiet. Our accommodations were awesome.
- Cynthia (10/5): - I liked the fire pit at the bay side for the guests. I liked the very personable staff. The room was very nice and clean. The fresh coffee in the gathering room was nice. The warm cinnamon donuts were okay.
- Linda (8/5): - We love that this property is right on the water, it's also quiet. We didn't care for the morning breakfast of a cinnamon bun loaded with icing, since we are both diabetics, however it was nice that they offered something. Would have wished for more variety.
- Kristin (10/5): - Wonderful resort directly on the bay.
- James (10/5): - Charming lakefront property, well maintained. We could enjoy a water view from our balcony, and had delightful visits with other guests around the fire pit during the evenings. Two comfortable chairs in our room were appreciated, along with complimentary breakfast rolls and coffee in the morning. We will return to the Shalllows!
- Shawn (8/5): - Nice place, smokers not welcome, had to go to the road to smoke, otherwise, nice place. Office didnt open until 9 and door lock broke. Locked out and didn't like us going to maim house.
- Tony (10/5): - Nice place with fantastic lake views. Staff was great, and the place was clean.
- john (10/5): perfect summer getaway - We just returned from a wonderful 4 days at the Shallows
We had a wonderful view from our room of Green Bay. A bonfire at night and warm fresh cinnamon rolls for breakfast
What else could you want? We already booked our room for next summer
- Mark (10/5): Perfect Resort and Rest - This hotel is truly a hidden gem of a resort. We were fortunate to get the last room for our time schedule so we could not get a balcony but that really did not matter. This resort has wonderful outdoor space, waterfront seating, relaxing views, campfires, and so much more. Free canoes, 2-person and individual kayaks are free. Bikes are free to use.
The hosts are gracious and always making sure we were comfortable. The maids arrived early to swap out towels and offer supplies. They do not clean rooms daily which is fine, but they make sure you have all clean linens.
There is no breakfast but the host serves up wonderful cinnamon rolls, juice, coffee and tea. You simply have to come and enjoy the resort, the pool, and the hot tub. Swimming is not inviting at the waterfront but the Egg Harbor beach is just a mile away.
Truly a great resort!
- Andrea (10/5): - We really enjoyed this resort. We love to go exploring during the day so it was a great home base to come back to at night to swim, relax and enjoy the views. Loved the additional amenities of shuffleboard, basketball, bikes and kayaks. The kids especially loved Charlie!
- Julie (10/5): - The Shallows was so peaceful, clean and right on the lake. The owner and staff are very friendly and accommodating.
- Melisser (10/5): - Heaven.
- Michael (10/5): - A beautiful wooded property on the shore of Green Bay. Very nice! 👍
- Ryan (10/5): - Beautiful view, peaceful quiet property and super friendly owners and staff!
- Michael (10/5): Awesome Fall weekend in paradise - I stayed here a long time ago and we tried it again. It was clean, great owners who you saw everyday and a beautiful Door County location. Peaceful, wonderful guests who obviously return year after year. We will join them and bring our friends. You may never leave the resort because it is so beautiful. Highly recommend staying here!
- Greg (10/5): - Lovely, quiet, "old-fashioned" resort with exceptional service and beautiful views! Room is smaller but clean. Owners are friendly. Lots of chairs outside with view of the water. The pool and hot tub are right by the rooms. It's such a great place to relax and so close to Door County attractions. We enjoyed our stay very much!
- Leslie (10/5): The Shallows is so amazing! - I highly recommend this resort!! The owners, Tim and Lynn, are out from morning till night interacting with guests, asking if they need anything, and attending to everyone's needs. They are quite amazing! It felt like we were guests in their home. So much to do here from swimming, tennis, basketball, pickleball, kayaking, biking, all included in your stay. Fresh hot cinnamon rolls every morning and very eco friendly. The gardens are beautiful! You can walk right out of your room to the beach. Sunsets were beautiful and there's a campfire every night. We will definitely be back here again.
- Steve (10/5): - From the owners to the staff to the welcoming "dog" it was a pleasure staying and enjoying the beauty of the grounds and of course being close to enjoy the lapping of the waves on the shore!
- Danielle (10/5): - This was the perfect place for a weekend getaway. We loved the amenities and small town feel. We will definitely be back in the future:)
- Joe (6/5): - it was ok
- Sharon (10/5): - Beautiful, well maintained property. Clean and quiet. Everyone we met was kind and helpful. We would have liked to use the hot tub but every time we tried to go, it was crowded. Otherwise, we loved everything
- Paula (10/5): - Comfortable beds, loved the gardens, lots of birds, friendly atmosphere, lots if places to sit and enjoy the beautiful Green Bay!
- Ronald (10/5): - The property was beautiful and on the water. It had a lovely pool and hot tub
- Elizabeth (10/5): A Special Place - Such a wonderful place! Swimming, kayaking, sitting around a fire, watching the amazing sunsets or just reading a book beside the lake. Top it off with comfortable lodging and amazing owners. This place is special.
- William (10/5): - Beautiful
- Verified traveler (8/5): Enjoyed our stay at the Shallows - We enjoyed staying at The Shallows but there are a few things that could've made our stay better. We stayed for 3 nights and they don't clean your room or empty your trash at all so our trash was totally full and I think you can get fruit flies this way. They should at least empty trash every other day.
The breakfast is super basic - donuts, juice and coffee. More options would've been great.
The hot tub was perfectly hot and our kids loved it. On our last night though they closed the pool and hot tub half an hour before it was supposed to be closed and our kids were so sad that they couldn't take a quick dip into the hot tub.
We loved the views of the bay but there is no sand at all and swimming and taking out the kayaks can be a little tricky because you have to walk over all the stones. Next time I would bring water shoes.
There is a reason its called the Shallows. The water is shallow for a long time and the water is weedy so definitely not an ideal swimming beach.
- Melanie (10/5): - The only complaint i have is the walls must be thin. We had a family of 4 beneath us, with 2 younger kids, and we could hear them every morning. They woke us up!
Otherwise we loved it!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Dated - Our unit was very dated. We had some plumbing issues. This place could really use a facelift
- Cathy (8/5): - Hotel is on the lake, beautiful property. Rooms were clean but no housekeeping during stay, which I dont mind, but instructions were left with where the dumpster was to empty our trash.
- robert (8/5): - I would not recommend this property far better resorts in door county than this . 1 room smells moldy and musty 2. Beds need to be replaced needs updates 3 no room service you have to put your towels in a laundry basket outside your room and new towels arrive outside in basket no sheet or room cleaning you need to take your own garbage out . The breakfast was horrible one kind of sweet roll coffee juice .would not recommend this for the money we paid. I could stay at home and take garbage out and towels needs updating
- Janet (4/5): - I want to say first off, they did comp us for one of the 3 nights we stayed there. However, our room (and yes, we did ask for another room but none were available) was right next to the holding tank and the smell was ungodly. Our rooms electric base boards would not shut off and at one point our room was over 90 degrees. We couldn't open the window becaue of the smell to cool off our room. The air conditioner was in the hallway leading to our room, so it took a LONG time for the cold air to reach us. We have been going up to Door County for years and this is the first year, we were extremely disappointed with our hotel pick.
- ann (10/5): - Wonderful
- Kimberly (10/5): - Great place! Helpful staff! Love the amenities!!!
- Paula (10/5): - Nice clean and family orientated. If your looking to relax and enjoy the simplicity of it all, this is the place to stay. Conveniently located on the peninsula to reach attractions in town, (Egg Harbor), approximately 2 miles North, or other destinations on the peninsula.
- Andrea (10/5): - We had a wonderful experience here and will be returning again. We were very impressed with cleanliness of the entire resort including our rooms. The staff was very friendly and polite. Breakfast, while repetitive was good. An amazing advantage to this resort: free use of bikes, kayaks and canoes, tennis, basketball and shuffleboard courts as well as camp fires made nightly. The location close to Egg Harbor couldn't be better and the sunset views were breathtaking. Will definitely come back in the near future.
- Kelly (8/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful. The resort was clean and peaceful.
- Patricia (8/5): - It is a beautiful spot on the bay and sunsets were gorgeous. It is family friendly and quiet. The canoes, kayaks, and bikes are a nice option for fun. The continental breakfast is donuts and coffee and hot water. We went out for some protein for breakfast. We stayed in a wood view room and it had a couple of things that made it worth choosing the lake view rooms. The shower was tiny and the water stream was hard to direct. It needs a wand attachment. The tv was at right angles to the bed, so it was hard to watch over my husband's body, but we did not spend much time in the room and so did not watch much tv. The pillows are the flattest I have ever seen, though they are shapable, so we asked for extra pillows. Other than these few complaints, it was a lovely place to stay.
- Linda (10/5): - The Shallows Resort was a perfectly relaxing location. Super clean, staff was very helpful. The location (on the water) was the best part. Every night was a beautiful sunset. I will recommend and stay again. Thank you to the staff and owners for helping us make memories!! Linda and son Matthew
- Natalia (10/5): - Our family had a nice time at this resort. Beautiful grounds, very relaxing, thank you.
- Ruth (10/5): - The water view is simply amazing, and totally relaxing. A good 😊 place to unwind and enjoy nature
- John (10/5): - Liked everything
1
- ?? (8/5): - Good
- Terese (10/5): A gem close to Egg Harbor - The Shallows is a lovely resort close to Egg Harbor. Very comfortable and clean. Owners are really friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and the views of sunsets spectacular. We will be back!!
- Erin (10/5): - This was a great place to stay! Egg Harbor seems to be kind of in the middle of the peninsula and it's pretty quick access to everything. The Shallows had decent (not great) rooms, and the continental breakfast was sub-par (just doughnuts and coffee), but everything else was amazing! There was a basketball court, tennis court, shuffle board court, kayaks, and bikes to use all at no cost. We took advantage of some of those during "down time" on our trip and it added a lot to our memories! I was also VERY impressed with their landscaping, the property upkeep, and the lack of spiders around the building. The dark walls make this a prime location you would think to see many spider webs, but they clearly do very good upkeep and keep them away. Overall, we loved staying here and would definitely stay again! One of the highlights of our trip was seeing the sunset right from the pier of The Shallows. It was beautiful!
- Crystal (10/5): Wonderful - Absolutely wonderful stay. We had a room in the Gatehouse and it was most comfortable night of sleep I have had in years. Beautiful, well-kept and an amazing view! The only minor negative is having to haul our heavy suitcases up the stairs. But the comfort & beauty surrounding is made it worth it. Highly recommend this resort.
- Sarah (10/5): - Hotel was older but quite clean. Our unit had a bathroom that looked recently renovated. Absolutely loved sitting on the deck at night watching the sunset over the lake!
- Edward (10/5): - Love this place! Beautiful view! Quiet and very relaxing. Beautiful drive to and from the resort regardless of direction. This resort is away from towns and traffic. A great place to relax from travel, sightseeing or shopping. Staff is friendly and helpful and the resort is very clean. It is a place where you want to spend time.
- Nancy (10/5): - First time at the Shallows Resort and already have our reservations in for next year. Beautiful setting, clean, many amenities, friendly guests and staff. You just cannot beat being right on the water with the sound of the waves and the beautiful sunsets with an abundance of waterfront seating,
- Faith (10/5): - Lovely property! We will be back!
- Susan (10/5): - Very friendly staff, very knowledgeable about the area, many activities available. Love the morning sweet rolls!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The grounds are beautiful! The rooms are very clean. We were a bit disappointed in the location of our room, so next time we will make sure we are more careful about what we are choosing (our room was the only room above the office without a balcony). They advertise a continental breakfast, which is coffee, juice, and donuts. It was very good, but they should call it donuts, juice and coffee so people can plan accordingly. The staff was very nice and friendly. We would defintely return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and very affordable. Clean with good amenities.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was nice and had some basic amenities. The lake access is rocky so don’t expect a sandy beach you can lay out on. They have bikes to use but the grounds are not woodsy and no trails so you can only use to ride on the road. You can’t use them on the property because there’s nowhere really to ride around. It’s off a main road so not very safe for riding without a helmet. We had the lake view motel room which was very clean and had a microwave and refrigerator. Beds and pillows were comfortable. The air conditioner rattled and couldn’t fix that so he to turn it off. People were hanging out by the fire pit outside our room and they were really loud and couldn’t sleep. The walls were very thin and we were woken up every morning at 7 by a baby crying. We could also hear a couple making love next door. Good for them but pad the walls. The internet wasn’t working most of the time so had to use cell data. Don’t come here to work if you need internet access or do video calls because it’s not reliable. Staff was friendly, continental breakfast consisted of coffee and donuts. Overall, it wasn’t great and amazing but it was good enough. You have to drive everywhere and the town is about 7 minutes away. Unfortunately during the week restaurants are closed Tues and or Weds and was hard to grab a bite to eat since the resort didn’t have anything substantial. Best to go to the market to get food. Although very expensive. Shop before you go
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful landscaping throughout. Excellent service pool is immaculate .Kayaks, canoe, bicycles all are sign out only no fees.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Shallows was everything we were looking for in a resort! The rooms were clean and all had a lake view deck. The pool was great for the kids and a nice pool side activity room with tables for cards and snacks. We played tennis and rode the bikes, wish there would have been some trails nearby. Overall this was a fun, well maintained resort in Door County and we would definitely come back just for the sunsets and morning pastries!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautifully maintained resort right on the Bay of Green bay. We spent a very nice 3 nights there. Comfy beds and pillows. Although there were families with small children there, it was nice quiet and relaxing. I would definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful setting right on the water. Room was spacious, updated and immaculately clean. Made good use of the free bikes, nice fire pit, played shuffleboard and shot some baskets. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Pool and hot tub were closed, and no breakfast due to COVID.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I liked being on waterfront. Lots of chairs. On my checkin the older lady didnt offer any info on place just wanted to get money. Never knew if or where a breakfast was.
- Julia (10/5): Absolutely Wonderful! - This place is amazing! It is an older property (with a lot of charm!) but the rooms are updated and very comfortable. And the views (I was in the motel) are breathtaking!
The property and grounds are beautiful and spotless!! Lots of little paths and seating areas. I couldn't have asked for a more relaxing place. You can get anywhere on either end of the peninsula in under an hour from here, and the drives are gorgeous.
The pool and hot tub weren't open yet but they looked nice, and the views from them are awesome also!
The owner was so nice and very responsive via email, answering all of my gazillion questions I had before I arrived!
One note: early May is midge fly hatching season in Door County and those little buggers were everywhere, worse as you get closer to the water. They don't bite, just don't ride bikes with your mouth open! 😂And you'll need to use the screen door on the slider to your deck!!
If you couldn't tell, I loved this place and am already planning another trip there!
- Verified traveler (10/5): My new favorite hotel! - One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at! Incredibly clean room right near the water, the owners and staff are amazing and very serious about COVID-19 precautions. The beds are comfy, the rooms are beautiful! Can't wait to book it again!
- Ed (10/5): - There is nothing I didn't like. The view was spectacular from our lakeside room. Bed very comfortable. Very clean room and surroundings. Friendly and informative staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very plain, not worth the rate. Won't return. Everything was just Plain white.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Our stay was perfect. The location and veiw were amazing. The ammenities where spot on. The staff seemed to anticipate everything you would need to have a flawless expereience. We plan to make this an annual visit. The whole family loved our stay at the shallows. Photos are of the veiw from our balcony.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent location and resort for family vacation. Nice pool and bay for water sports. Well maintained property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a great time! Relaxing!
- Northshore_livi (10/5): - Wonderful spot for some quiet days, right on the lake. Good location for excursions as well. Will try to get back there one day.
- Jeff (10/5): Quite lovely at quiet location - Beautiful location, very well-maintained property with many free amenities. Highly recommend and we will be back.
- Cheryl (10/5): A must visit! - Beautiful location. Nice private resort a hidden gem! I will return!
- Chad (10/5): - The staff was very nice and helpful. It was great to use the kayaks, tennis, bikes, pool. Kids really enjoyed it
- Sarah (10/5): - We loved our recent stay, perfect location, plenty of things for kids of all ages. Fantastic value!
- Sue (8/5): - Beautiful location on the lake. Great amenities, pool, hot tub, kayaks, tennis court.
- James (10/5): elaxing - Just a fantastic resort. Clean, friendly. Sooooooo relaxing. Will stay here again
- Alannah (10/5): - The amazing view of the lake and the the grounds was well kept up.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great for long, romantic weekends - A long weekend birthday trip in the off-season, ideal for folks who aren't a fan of crowds. Off the beaten path. Very quiet, romantic spot. Had an excellent visit!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful facility and beautiful location. We will definitely use it again!
- Jeff (8/5): Almost Excellent - Would have been an excellent stay except for the fruit flies...there were many of them and n our room which was annoying. The WiFi was also spotty and I could not always get things on my phone that I wanted. Otherwise it was a wonderful quiet peaceful getaway for us.
- Stash (10/5): - The surrounding grounds are beautiful - very nice lake shore with no neighbors.
- Suzanny (10/5): - Wonderful place. The bed and linens were REALLY comfortable. Very helpful staff. Beautiful view. The ONLY flaw (for lack of better word) was that the internet/phone service was pretty sketchy. It worked one minute and not the next. Worked for me, not my husband. And then back again. But if that is my ONLY complaint, I'll take it! I'll definitely go back.
- Jay (8/5): - We really loved the setting and area closest to the beach and lake. The only negative is that families with young children were given rooms on the 2nd floor which caused alot of early morning noise to those of us on the 1st floor.
- trudy (10/5): - Beautiful water view from the room.
Beautiful landscape.
Central location on the peninsula
- David (8/5): One of the Best - Wonderful facility with great service and need people helping out.
My criticism was our bed was very hard making it so more difficult to sleep
Again, that’s great place to stay and we will be back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautifully spot on the water. Campfire and relax.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful setting on the water. 2-3 minutes south of Egg Harbor. Our room was spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed and room.
- Laurie (10/5): - This was an awesome place. The room was great except for the comfort of the bed! Did not sleep well and had a backache all weekend
- Joe (8/5): - Nice quiet resort right on the lake! Dog-friendly (for a fee), which was a major draw for us. Rooms/amenities are a little dated, but basically what you'd expect for a Door County resort of this nature. 5 mins from downtown Egg Harbor & very easy to get to/from all of the towns on the west side of the peninsula!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The resort was amazing! The owners were very informative and gave great recommendations. However the power went out for a couple hours and the person working in the office was not very customer service friendly.
- Kim (8/5): - A quiet resort with an amazing view and a pleasant staff. I’ll definitely stay there again.
- Kate (8/5): - This was our first time staying at The Shallows Resort. It was very relaxed and quiet. People were nice. The people that we talked with have been coming there for years so it must be a great place to stay. Being in Egg Harbor it was nice to be close to a lot of activities.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location on the lake was nice. A nice quiet hospitality room where you could go to visit, play games, do a puzzle, etc.
Did not think the bed was comfortable. Hated the small, not even standard, flat pillows! Very disappointed in the complimentary breakfast! Just cinammon rolls, bagels and apples. No decaf coffee just regular. Decaf available in rooms to make yourself. Just the addition of dry cereal or instant oatmeal would be a plus.
- Heather (10/5): Very quiet and homey place to stay - Very nice place to stay. Very quiet and homey feel to it. The owner was on site and very friendly and helpful. It is not within walking distance to Egg Harbor, but it is a very quick drive and there are usually lots of parking in town. (unless there is a festival going on) We enjoyed the peace and quiet very much.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - love that we could borrow the bikes and kayaks. Staff was very nice. First walking into our room it had a bit of an odor from the air conditioning, Im assuming.
