- Richard (7/5): Location was good. -
- Kasean (10/5): -
- ARTHUR (5/5): An overnight stay on our way from PA to a family member's funeral in WI. - Lovely view. Tolerable bed. Quiet, conducive to a good night's sleep. Some kind of on-site breakfast would have been appreciated.
- Wendy (7/5): - Location was great The room wasn't that clean
- Patricia (9/5): -
- kenneth (8/5): Clean, nice beds - Clean, beautiful event room When I got in then parking lot I thought I was at the wrong spot
- Ivan (10/5): -
- Margaret (1/5): Confused, not up to par for the money we spend. - We were entertained by the swan fishing early in the morning. Where do I start, the host did not know we had made a reservation and she did not alert us as to where to leave our pass cards to our room if we checked out before 8:00am. We had to use the enry black phone to find out were to leave them. Then there was no drop box, oh no, we had to slip them under the door of the lobby. The facility did not have an elevator. The room had patch marks from paint touch ups. The phone was old and crusty. No alarm clock. The entry to the bathroom had been split or cut may times which collected dust or some kind of dirt. I had to use toilet paper to blow my nose. The outlets were creapy yellow with burn marks on them. The desk lamp did not work. Yuck!
- sadowski (10/5): - I loved the rumble of freight trains in the night! It's a very soothing sound! And very comfortable beds and pillows! The sliding door to the balcony didn't latch.
- McCreary (9/5): - Room was a good size, bed was comfortable. The balcony and lake view was exceptional. The staff were very friendly. They have free wifi and cable tvs. I brought a fire stick and streamed with no issues or buffering. Would definitely recommend. The only negative I would say is it is fairly close to a railroad track and trains come thru very often. For me it was a non-factor as once I fell asleep I didn't hear it and they never woke me up. I'm not particularly a deep-sleeper but if you're a light-sleeper it could be a problem.
- Jonathan (9/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): - I like how well we the staff is I’ve stayed here numerous times and I just keep coming back because it’s very affordable and just a really good hotel
- Miiro (10/5): If it's good enough for me,it should be good enough for you... - Wonderful large rooms with lake views and many birds... A little distance from lake Michigan... and many beaches ⛱️🏖️...

- Austin (10/5): Clean, comfortable, luxury! Best deal! - Hidden gem! So beautiful and comforting! Rooms are huge and beds are so comfortable
- James (7/5): - The location was excellent it was close to the event I was attending. View from our room was very nice including a bald eagle flying right over our balcony. Would definitely stay there again. Had a couple small maintenance issues that had to be addressed when we got to our room. But they were taken care of very quickly.

- Bilderback (10/5): Quick getaway - Decor is nice and the staff is great Bathroom could use a lil. Remodel ut its still nice.
- Dennis (10/5): -
- Kimberly (10/5): -
- Johnson (10/5): - Very clean, I really enjoyed my stay, and the staff was nice and the room was very comfortable, I like the view, I'll come back when its warmer outside to get a better look at the lake No breakfast, but there were restaurants nearby
- Eliana (10/5): -
- Jason (8/5): I'd go back! - Location to Indiana Dunes was great! Waterbirds Inn lived up to its namesake--plenty of birds to be seen in and around the lake behind the building. It was nice to step out onto the patio and watch great blue herons, swans, gulls, and geese! Only thing that could be better is the parking on the northside of the building. One row is perpendicular to the building, and the opposite row is angled--not great for an already narrow space.
- Marietjie (8/5): -
- Chad (7/5): -
- Susan (8/5): - It was a spacious, quiet room with a bevy of bird and nature activity, just off the balcony. The location was perfect because we were spending the day at the dunes.
- Linda (6/5): -
- Nancy (8/5): -
- Paul (9/5): -
- Robert (1/5): - Kind of a dump for 150.00
- Leesa (6/5): Was ok for 1 night stay. Would not want to stay for several days. - Lake view. Room was clean. Price. No breakfast. Decks and windows need to be cleaned up. Wasn't sure plastic chairs on deck would be safe to sit on.
- Darlene (8/5): Enjoyed the area -
- Deborah (9/5): -
- Joshua (8/5): -
- Caroline (6/5): -
- Derek (6/5): - The room was a great size and we loved the view of the lake/pond. The empty vodka bottle in the bathroom and the key cards not working.
- Keith (10/5): -
- genea (10/5): -
- Shana (8/5): Good amenities - I like it had a microwave and a mini fridge! They didn’t clean my room until I left after my trip!

- Kierra (10/5): Great room great view - Front desk was so accommodating. My daughter has wheelchair I booked room that wasn't accessible he was able to get me an accessible room. The rooms are always well stocked and very clean and the view is to die for been going here for a while have not had any bad experiences The only thing that I didn't like was that I couldn't stay longer
- Dominic (8/5): It was a great stay fir the price - There's the giant gap at the bottom of the door to the hallway. it'd be nice if there was some sort of way to cover that.
- LIsa (10/5): Relaxing - Lake view Nothing
- Melissa (10/5): -
- Michele (7/5): - Location. Original building clearly was once very nice. Presently needs some updates and better cleaning See above
- Polley (10/5): - Simple I liked everything
- Mark Quinto (10/5): -
- Darcy (8/5): -
- Nathan (10/5): - Clean room, great view. Property is a bit dated but nice! Always stay here when in Porter area.
- Richard (10/5): - Very friendly staff.... quiet and clean rooms.... balcony and lake..... near expressway and restaurant
- Kendra (10/5): - I actually had a bit of trouble finding the correct check-in area, as there are 2 adjacent motels/inns. But I really liked this place, especially with the deck overlooking the small lake. The room was clean and I felt safe. The staff was very friendly.
- Ryleasha (10/5): - Got there late but the hot tub was well worth it
- Margarita (10/5): - Very cozxy and clean we love the views
- Ryan (8/5): - Parking seemed safe enough. The building is older and in need of attention. Broken window pane on one of the upstairs window. One light in my room didnt function and the bathroom door was splintering at the bottom. Room was clean! Though the building was in need of update and repair it was clean! Super cool to step out on balcony to be over the water, incredible view of the lake right put the sliding door of my room.
- William (1/5): Terrible. - Location only No staff on hand. No services. Didn't clean room after 1st night. No clean towels or sheets!!!
- Armandina (2/5): - I am writing to formally report a deeply unacceptable experience at the Waterbird Hotel during my recent stay, and I am demanding a full refund for the appalling conditions and the utterly disgraceful customer service I encountered.
On my first night, I stayed alone in the room (room 252, second floor), and everything seemed acceptable. However, when I returned the second night with a companion, we discovered something absolutely vile. A strong odor of feces became noticeable. When we checked under the covers of the second bed, we found dried, crusted poop stains on the comforter. This was not fresh; it was clearly an old and unhygienic mess that had been left there from a previous guest. I have photographic evidence of this and am prepared to share it with the Better Business Bureau and Hotels.com.
What made this situation even more intolerable was the behavior of your front desk staff. When I tried to explain this to him, he was immediately sarcastic, dismissive, and smirking at me. He questioned why we hadn’t noticed it the first night, which is irrelevant and insulting given the circumstances. I have stayed at this hotel many times, and I have never been treated so disrespectfully. His attitude was completely unprofessional and his refusal to offer a full refund is absolutely unacceptable.
Sleeping in a bed with someone else’s dried feces is not just disgusting, it’s a serious health risk. I demand a full refund for this stay, and I will be forwarding this complaint.

- Jennifer (10/5): - Nice, big rooms with a beautiful view of the lake. The room was clean and comfortable. Would recommend for the price.
- Lyn (7/5): -
- Asria (6/5): - The room was fine The fridge didn't work, the hose on shower/bath wasn't on all the way, counter was broken
- Susan (5/5): Provided a bed and shower which was what we needed - Location relative to the national park was good
Location walkable to Starbucks was nice
Bed was comfortable
Refrigerator was a bonus Tv sound was in and out
Shower head was below standard
Hallway/stairway wasn’t clean … actually dirty
- Mizerka (8/5): The room has everything we needed. - Beautiful view. No one to accept keys at checkout.
- Erin (6/5): - Room looked much nicer in the photos. Was basic and fairly clean inside but the balcony was really dirty and filled with spider webs and spiders. Literally counted 20 huge spiders so we couldn’t enjoy the balcony.
- Carleen (10/5): It was a great room for a great price! - Location and room were great N/a
- Mary K (6/5): - Room was basically clean could’ve used a little bit more work. Cabinet doors would not close in the bathroom. Could use grab bars in the bathroom. Parking was great. The staff was friendly in the beginning, but abrasive when asked questions on the second day. Would not stay there again.
- Kimberly (8/5): - The lake view is beautiful!
- Christopher (10/5): - Very tranquil.
- Kayla (10/5): - Great lake view
- Gail (2/5): - Carpet with mold, bugs, staff rude. Left and went to Best Western.
- Susan (8/5): - The room with a patio overlooking the lake was beautiful! The patio could have used a little bit of cleaning, there were a lot of spider webs that I wiped off.
- Douglas (10/5): Very nice stay - The hotel is tucked behind a strip mall right on a small pond. The room was large and comfortable. The bed and pillows were fine. The rooms have balconies or patios so you can sit and have coffee in the morning
- Jill (8/5): - Even though the Inn is at the back of a fairly busy shopping area, once you are at the Inn, it is very quiet and clean, with spacious rooms. It was also very nice to wake up in the morning and be able to enjoy coffee by the small lake while sitting on the room's private balcony.
- Julie (7/5): Just an overnight stay on our road trip. We liked the location. - Loved the location for visiting Indiana Dunes National Park. AC was loud. Clean but a bit run down. Spiders and spider webs on the balcony facing the lake.
- Danielle (7/5): Short night. Didnt want o leave the morning animal traffic on the lake - So if you look past the outdated hall and cosmetic issues on outside, the lake and wildlife made the stay exceptional! I could have sat on the balcony forever. We hdidnt have pario chairs like othe balcony but I took outcthe desk chair to sit. At one point, 25 Candian Geese circled and landed. I wasn't sure they were going to land in the water and not the balconies! Tgere were swans, Cranes, fish jumping, birds fishing. Perfect entertainment I'm afraid my job made me a high end hotel person. With some updates this could be a perfect hotel.
When I booked, I didnt notice that here was no breakfast or pool but we survived. My fault.
- Tonya (8/5): - wish there was a better late check out option, most hotels don’t charge you for late check outs
- Patricia (6/5): Needs Updating - The view from the balcony was nice. Sofa bed was comfortable. The balcony was covered in spider webs so we didn't sit out there. I asked desk clerk if we had bedding for third person and he assured me he did. But we did not. We had to haul extra towels, blanket, pillows and sheets up to second floor (no elevator). My feeling was this was once a great hotel but it has gone downhill. Also I was told my booking.com that price had gone down but I was charged original price. When I questioned desk clerk, he couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand him (language barrier) so I just paid it.
- Greg (6/5): - Key card problems. No wi-fi on balcony. Otherwise ok.
- Kristina (8/5): -
- Tracey (6/5): - Average place but the location on the lake and balcony put it above the hotels on the highway!
- Katrina (7/5): -
- Vanessa (9/5): - Location. Loved the lake view No breakfast
- Caith (4/5): Would not stay here again. - To begin with, right when you walk in the front door, the smell is stale and musty.
The hotel is dated, dingy, and overall not very appealing.
Water pressure is weak, and the hot water is just lukewarm.
The carpets were pretty gross and not vacuumed.
To top it all off -- they don't even provide coffee in the morning. No breakfast is fine, but no coffee. Deal breaker.
- Becca (10/5): - We liked the hospitality. Very nice hostess at the front. Room was okay. Comfy bed. The area surrounding the outside walk up needs updates and fixes. The room inside needs updates for more modern tastes. The batbroom cabinet was broken and wouldn't close completely
- Nicole (10/5): Great stay! - We had a great stay! We two lakeview rooms and were impressed by the size of the rooms! There were clean and the beds were comfortable. We would definitely stay again:)
- Tabernacki (10/5): -
- Anne (8/5): - Loved the view
- Joseph (10/5): - Nice little escape, just a short walk from all kinds of civilization.
- David (10/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): -
- Vanessa (10/5): - Conveniently located! You pull into the parking lot and once you enter your room, it’s full serene privacy in the back! Unexpected!
- Cynthia (8/5): - View was nice.. assume balcony safe....but chairs looked rickety and old. Some light bulbs out in room, Overall felt safe, and was clean .. beds comfy.
