Stains on curtains and sheets, windows needed a good clean from outside, lamp above the bed was so dusty that dust rained onto the bed. Everything cost extra (Cappuccino or Hot Chocolate for Breakfast? Pay additional 3£. Eggs with Salmon instead of full Scottish Breakfast? Pay additional 3.50£…) we already paid 32£ for two people for breakfast, why doesn’t it include all breakfast choices?

André (9/5): When the employees care about customers. - Excellent service by the young man at the reception and Isla. We arrived around 9h30 pm after 8hrs at the emergencies. Restaurant was closed but the scrounge around and made us sandwiches and soups. Very caring and humane. Old building with creaking floors.

Zoe (1/5): Avoid - The location is good The room was dirty. They staff are incompetent and charged a figure out of thin air. Breakfast is poor service and and quality. Worse on value for Money. Downstairs is ok recently refurbished. But rooms are tired and need attention. Bins are exposed in car park with a clear rat run. Manager is rude and sarcastic. Front of hotel looks uncared for borken plant pits. Cushions shoved in a hut. They ignored booking.com when I complained on what they charged. One lot of figures sent on message on booking.com diff price charged locally and wouldn’t acknowledge foul play. Eventually after being very persistent was told to call Mary who in line with all other reviews had no idea about any of it. Poor reviews are a clear representation of reality.

nexp (3/5): Ok hotel, but terrible if any events happening on premises. - Great Location. Room was a bit dated but ok. Staff was nice. We were traveling with our 2 year old, hoping to have a quiet night, but we got a family room over the back entrance to the event area that was absolutely terrible. Loud music and screaming noises until midnight is not acceptable.

Could have done with possible net curtains on the window as when getting changed etc. we had to close the big curtains and then it was quite dark.

Graeme (4/5): Loud, Worn but friendly staff - Location to the city centre is good, and there was a friendly greeting when we got there. Our room was directly above a booked function, which didn’t stop playing music incredibly loudly until midnight - not ideal for weary travellers. The walls are somewhat thin, we heard toddler tantrums clearly next door from the early hours. Not to mention bin lorries and doors slamming. The bathroom had marks on the walls and there was mould on the ceiling above the shower. My other half didn’t find the bed particularly comfortable, although I didn’t have an issue. The remote control for the telly didn’t work (first world problems). One of the lampshades is damaged but on turning it round, it was hiding the fact there was a stain on the other side - and the bedside lamps? One was a warm tungsten bulb, the other was a cool daylight bulb.

The people we interacted with—every single one of them—were some of the kindest, most friendly, and professional individuals we’ve ever encountered. They made my wife and me feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. As for the facilities, they were outstanding. Everything was thoughtfully maintained, comfortable, and inviting. It honestly felt less like staying at a hotel and more like being in our own home. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would absolutely stay here again. No tengo quejas

The bedroom was small as advertised but the bed was comfy and the shower room was clean and quite new. Breakfast was poor quality (tinned fruit, not the freshest yogurt etc) and at £18.50 plus £3 for a cappuccino, the hotel is not doing itself any favours.

5488c2a7b45d7118a7d2f9b6b4dbb53b (8/5): I loved this hotel for its friendly, family-run but still higher end feel - Loved the Scottish-themed decor. Room was very cosy, clean and attractive. Bed was comfy. Bathroom was lovely, clean and also appreciated the kettle, tea, coffee and biscuits. Room was very comfy and staff were very friendly and helpful, going the extra mile to do a small amount of urgent printing for me. The entrance and aspect of the hotel were very welcoming and pretty. I had a nice meal in the hotel restaurant on one of the evenings. On the whole I slept very well. Unfortunately on one of the nights I was there, there were some rowdy guests in the adjacent room making a lot of noise until about 3am which disturbed my sleep. The hotel manager told me I should have reported them as they would not tolerate their guests being disturbed in such a way and they would have been told to leave the hotel. I didn't want any confrontation so tolerated it, but now in future I will report such things. All the other nights were very peaceful.

There was no hot water for the first 18 hours we were here. The room layout was a little too cramped, even for a compact room - there was not a lot of room between the ends of the beds and the wall mounted television. It also felt unnecessary to have a desk take up space in a room this small - there was not adequate room for two suitcases (in a twin room).

The staff were polite and the overall stay was pleasant. We did not have breakfast because £14 per person felt too expensive. It would be much better to offer 2 or 3 breakfast options at different price levels, including a simple takeaway option for guests leaving early, as we had a bus trip at 8 AM.

When I arrived and checked in my room was very warm (not a bad thing!!) opened the window and the window key in the handle snapped only thing wrong was at 08.00 the next day there was no one on reception to report it to don't get me wrong I will stay there again.

Room was clean, food was good. Tracy one of the senior members of staff actually moved her car for me so I could park my truck as the hotel car park as it was very busy. Jonathan the manager was a very nice helpful person too. The shower pressure was low, the bath was full of black hairs from the previous occupants and on the second day the shower drain blocked as it was full of black hairs! The toilet seat was slack. The second day at breakfast the table wasn’t set, we had to ask for toast, butter side plates and milk for the tea. We waited 25 minutes for the food and when it came it was incorrect!
5edbe2c82111727e5444da653f43e9e8 (10/5): - A warm feeling of genuine hospitality immediately exuded from the staff of this grand old hotel. The comfort level was very high, rooms marvellously appointed and equipped with as much gadget support as anyone could ask for. My bathroom was beautiful and a triumphant example of what an en suite facility can be. I can find nothing to be negative about. I didn't dine at the hotel but reviews suggest that the kitchen is very good.
