Guest Reviews
- Andrés (10/5): - Friendly staff,.great views and weather. Food also very good.
- carlos (10/5): - Its very peaceful and safe for tourist! Beautiful area and nature
- Bobra (10/5): - This boutique hotel is located just south of Cartago, and is the PERFECT spot if you are wanting to visit the Volcanos (Irazu and Turrialba) and/or Tapanti National Park (all highly recommended). The property is actually a working coffee plantation that sits right on beautiful Lake Cachi.
The owner Michael was WONDERFUL! He was fully bilingual, truly cared about his property, and our experience of it, and was BEYOND accommodating.
Our room was HUGE, very clean, had comfortable bedding, very modern bathroom, and a beautiful back patio area. WiFi worked great.
Included breakfast at the property's restaurant was delicious, cooked to order, plentiful, and was provided to-go on two of the days for when we needed to get up and out. Dinner, and of course, their own coffee was also delicious - have the trout fillet - local and awesome. The restaurant has a huge outdoor eating area that over looks the lake and has STUNNING views. Take time to walk around the property as the views are gorgeous.
If you want to get out of the bustle of the cities and go to a really beautiful, serene place, La Casona is the ticket. We stayed four nights, and we loved every minute. Again, thank you to Michael, a true gentlemen and fabulous host and owner.
- Jeff (10/5): - Lovely place with great views and service.
- maria (6/5): - Nice surroundings but limited service
- Federico (2/5): Scam - They were not open and charged me for the stay. Ai wait at the gate and no one answered the phone. After I try to make the complain called again several times and no one answer
- Oscar (10/5): - Good option for a weeken getaway close to San Jose
- Rafael (10/5): Buen lugar en medio de la naturaleza para descanso - Lugar super tranquilo, para descansar. No esperen encontrar restaurantes o movida nocturna cerca. Las instalaciones muy amplias y limpias.
- Angie (8/5): - The Hotel is nice , but the drive way from the road to the hotel is so rough with the big rocks not a graves is kind of not inviting.
The garden all dry ( because no rain) that understandable.
poor instructions to the rooms and no sign
The service is good and room is nice little dark
- Miranda (6/5): Skip Cachi - When we went through Customs and the officer asked where we were staying, he furrowed his brow when I told him Cachi. It’s not a tourist destination, nor is there any apparent reason why it should be. We chose Cachi because it looked like it would be an easy drive from San Jose, and a scenic location on the lake. It was not an easy drive. And the water level of the lake was low, so it wasn’t particularly pretty.
- Mary (10/5): - We love this place! The view from your breakfast table of the lake can't be beat. Lots of interesting birds. Saw 2 lifers just sitting on our back patio.
- Roger (10/5): Beautiful hotel - Beautiful hôtel White nice and confortable room. Excellent breakfast.
- Shallen (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay for a relaxing night!
- William (10/5): - Beautiful setting. Absolutely excellent restaurant
- Dennis (10/5): - Quite and very peaceful Hotel. The perfect place to get in touch with nature and ground. The rooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable with cable Tv. (in case that matters to you). Oh and you really don’t need a/c here in case you worry as I did. I actually had to turned off the ceiling fan because the nice cool temperature at night. The staff was super nice from check in to check out. However, I will recommend to arrive before the sun sets if you are planning on having diner as their restaurant closes at 7:00 pm. and there aren’t many choices around the area. Breakfast in the morning with the lake view was so good, I got the “desayuno típico” but they also have a couple other options.
We will definitely stay here again!
- Pedro (10/5): An absolute jewel in a very, very nice area. - An absolute jewel in a very, very nice area.
The place is awesome! The staff fantastic! The service superb! The location to die for!
And... I don't know what else needs to be said!!!!
- Christin (8/5): - This was just a stop over for us. Room was spacious and very clean. Little kitchen area was a bonus. We ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was awful. Everything was over cooked and microwaved, including the white rice. So bad, we didn’t even stay for the free breakfast. But otherwise a beautiful quick place to lay our heads.
- Miles (8/5): - The property, hotel and restaurant was amazing. The staff was pertcfect. The Turkish watch was not working and there was not a pool but other than that, amazing. The food was extremely good and would rival any 5 start restaurant.
- Ricardo (10/5): - The lake's view from the restaurant at breakfast time is unique in the area. Also you can easily watch and hear birds on the property. A very nice get away option near San Jose to stay and enjoy the valley.
- Mario (10/5): - Excellent
- Anne (6/5): - Lake view was beautiful.
- Katya (10/5): - The hotel has very comfortable beds, spacious rooms, air conditioning and ceiling fans. The property is surrounded with coffee plantations and has a great view of the lagoon. Breakfast is good with a couple of options to choose from. Service is a little bit slow at the restaurant but there is no big deal if you are on vacations.
- Tim (10/5): Great place! - The place was peaceful, beautiful location! The lake the flowers the mountains were all amazing! The room was large and well decorated! Bathroom was Hugh along with a large bar area! Great food in the restaurant!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The views were stunning, food is delicious and service kind and accommodating
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great property for a relaxing get away. Friendly staff and service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay at La Casona del Cafetal - Very clean, comfortable and beautiful property. Dinner was delicious, the scenery was amazing. Bird watching was great. I'd stay here again.
- Vicarious (10/5): - Beautiful environment, very nice room. Great dinner and breakfast on a patio with garden and lake views.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and beautiful property. The rooms are very spacious and modern. Newly built. Great restaurant on site and you are staying at a coffee plantation. Great coffee too! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely location on the lake, beautiful grounds, attentive staff, and nice menu at the restaurant
- John (8/5): vca - The bungalow/room was spacious and clean but separated from the main restaurant. We were the only guests on the property and felt isolated. There was security and adequate lighting. The best part was the meal! Gourmet level dinner and kind staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Best Place to stay in Cachi - It's a very nice hotel on a coffee plantation. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
- Michael (10/5): Coffee, Beauty, Comfort - One f the most Beautiful areas of the world. Almost secluded. Very nice rooms available. Very nice staff. Beautiful view of the lake from the restaraunt. Excellent Coffee from the Coffee Plantation you are sleeping on.
- MJ (8/5): - Beautiful place. We came late (9pm) and all restaurants were closed. We wished so badly that there were some fruit or nuts on the room. No such luck. Bring snacks if you expect to arrive late, or eat on the way.
- William (10/5): Do not pass up this gem - Less than 2 hours from San Jose, the Orosi valley is a world away from the noise and traffic. And this is the place to stay in comfort while you explore the area. Rooms so comfortable that you wouldn't mind just relaxing in them. Excellent food to fuel you for exploring.
- DaveFromCanada (10/5): - This location was perfect for us as we drove across from West to East. It broke the trip into 2 manageable days. The property sits right on the lake and offers wonderful views from the restaurant. The staff is attentive and very helpful.
Loved it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We liked the location by the lake, the pathway to the lake, the staff and the food was excellent. We had comfy beds and a quiet environment. We would definively recommend it!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Temperatures were cool. Very quiet. Nice drive around the lake.
- Ashley (10/5): - Great place beautiful rooms and grounds.
- Gilbert (10/5): Wonderful place to relax. - Very well kept room with small kitchen area. Huge bathroom and shower. Pleasant outside patio. The Sunday brunch was delicious. A beautiful lake view from the restaurant. The staff were very helpful and accommodating.
- Lisa (10/5): Nice hotel on route to our next stop - Beautiful hotel and grounds, lovely staff, only stayed one night but wish it was longer.
- Gustavo (10/5): Casona del Cafetal, unique place to stay - This is a very unique place to stay. The rooms are literally inside a coffee plantation. Spectacular nature, trees, flowers and beautiful birds. The restaurant is great and the breakfast in the morning looking across the lake was very good. Great coffee, of course.
- jose (10/5): It is literally a paradise - The hacienda is perfectly located and it is armoniosamente surrounded with the beauty of the Costa Rica.
Amazing experience, drinking a cup of coffee
With the esplendor of the lake, it is unforgettable, thank you,
To the crew and the employees, thank you.
We will go back again
If you are looking for quiet and pacific retired place in Costa Rica, it is the place.
Just ,consider that it is a little far from the beaches
And from the thermals spring waters , ah last recommendation, rent a SUV to get there.
- Robert (10/5): Gorgeous Getaway! - Beautiful facility and outstanding service. This was an ideal relaxation spot for us. Unfortunately the gorgeous lake is still recovering from previous pollution issues and there is no fishing. A minor inconvenience, but we will look forward to coming back when the lake is back to balance.
- Heilyn (2/5): Hotel was closed by the time we arrived - We booked same day, did not called for confirmation because the systems indicates it is not necessary. My wife and I arrived late that night... the hotel was closed!!! Nobody was there to open the gates, no one answered the phone until next day in the morning and they said hotel closes after 8:00pm.
I can not tell anything about the hotel but service it is just terrible!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Mountain Stay on a Coffee Plantation - Stunning area in the mountains with a mind blowing amount of bird life, right in the middle of a coffee plantation. The restaurant on site is stellar and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. A great place to stay if you want to be away from San Jose or maybe as a halfway stopover point between coasts (which is what we did). The mountains are incredibly beautiful in this part of the country.
- Verified traveler (6/5): The wifi is no good - There were bugs in the dining room
The wifi in the room was no good
There were mouse poops on my bedding
- Edgar (8/5): Out of the way... - The hotel is amazing. It is quiet, secluded, and the facility itself is excellent. The problem is that there is little to nothing to do in the area. If you need a place to catch up on reading or just need some peace, I would highly recommend this place. The restaurant there is very good!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was the most luxurious place I've stayed in CR, while still being in a casual area (no mega resorts). The grounds are beautiful!
- Leslie (8/5): 3 generations /2 rooms - Nice room, bed a bit hard, friendly staff, good breakfast, lovely gardens and lake views. Good value but costings a bit misleading, costs exclude the 13% tax and hotels average room cost is actually the cheaper room cost and excludes tax.
- BH (10/5): Lovely hotel in beautiful setting - Arrived at hotel very tired from red-eye flight. Hotel staff was very friendly and took us to our room before checking n time. The rooms are a short distance from the restaurant and there are two large rooms per unit. The grounds are lovely and the restaurant overlooks a lake. The birdlife is exceptional. And the coffee is fantastic. Very close to Tapanto NP. Wish we had stayed longer.
- Francisco (8/5): - Exelente
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - Short stay (two nights).
Breakfast including was okay.
- James (8/5): Nice get away - Beautiful setting. Off season, so not much staff, but they were very helpful.
