Guest Reviews
- Norma (7/5): - Cleanles
- Guest (8/5): -
- RJpugh (8/5): - Our clean, comfortable room overlooked the Fox River and was convenient to the places we needed to be in Johnsburg and McHenry. There was no breakfast but for the difference in room price we could eat locally.
- Jake (8/5): Short and sweet. Only stayed one night and was perfect for what we needed! - The staff were extremely nice and helpful. Just a little dated. Nothing major.
- Kirsten (10/5): -
- ronald (8/5): Comfortable and inexpensive - Waterfront Traffic on the bridge
- John (3/5): I won't go back - The bed was like sleeping on a table and the water smells really bad.
- Judy (10/5): -
- Deborah (10/5): -
- Pamela (10/5): -
- Hayden (3/5): disgusting, did not stay the night. - nice location next to the water, nice decor in the front, and cheap. there were bugs everywhere in my room. in the lights, on the walls, on the floors, and in the bathroom.
- Kimberlee (9/5): -
- Durst (10/5): - The view was great Room was a bit small
- Carl (10/5): - Clean property with a nice view of the water. Really appreciated that the rooms had balconies. Small complaint. Tub had a leaky faucet which caused rust to form around the drain. Didn’t look very good.
- Sherry (10/5): - It is a nice hotel, nothing fancy but it was very clean. Check-in was fast and staff were very pleasant. Bed was hard but that is a personal thing.
- ITing (6/5): Okay stay - Safe area. The man at the front desk was friendly and welcoming. The air conditioning seemed to not have an in between high and off. Nice views with the water. However it was an older building and older room. Updates are needed.
- William (10/5): - Staff
- Bonnie (8/5): -
- Karen (10/5): - Staff was excellent and the rooms clean. They could use better pillows but otherwise we would definitely stay again
- Jennifer (8/5): - Run down
- Kelly (8/5): - Super nice staff. It was ver clean, needs some updating.
- Palechek (2/5): Although the view was gorgeous, we left incredibly unrested and uncomfortable. - The view from the balcony overlooking the lake was gorgeous. Front desk staff was great! The room was very outdated, yellow stains on the sheet, very small/uncomfortable pillows, shower and toilet was stained yellow and had foul odors coming from it. No comforter was provided either.
- Susan (6/5): - Great front desk staff. Easy check-in
- mitreclaudia (6/5): Loved the view n staff. - Loved the location, the view , the staff. Bathtub was rusty, there was a giant spider in there my husband had to kill and the room had an odor.
- AMIT (2/5): - No Wifi working
No break fast provided.
Bathroom shower broken
- David (8/5): - The property was exactly what I needed. It was a couch in a friends house that I did not have in the area. The bathroom had a big leak on the ceiling and was moldy. Other than that, hard to be beat for the price.
- Tracy (6/5): - It has a nice view on the water side of the building, but that's about it. No fire pit, No pool, & No hot tub.
- Sandra (8/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful. The property is very convenient to the area, and the room was clean and comfortable. The building is aged and could use some updates. The door to my room was very difficult to open and close near the frame. Not sure why, but it's like the door dragged on the floor in that spot. WiFi was not working, and my cell signal was spotty. I brought my own pillow after reading other reviews, and am glad I did. Overall it was a good place to stay for a last minute change in plans.
- Fidela (4/5): - The room smelled of cigarette smoke, the bathroom had dampness on the ceiling, the water had a very bad smell, we stayed for 2 nights, they didn't make the bed or enter the room to refill coffee or whatever was needed.
- Marcin (3/5): Very disappointing stay – the hotel needs serious renovations and better cleaning. - The location by the water was nice, and the staff at check-in was friendly. Parking was convenient. The room was in very poor condition. The bed frame was broken, the ceiling had water damage and cracks, and the bathroom was dirty with stains in the shower and sink. The walls and outlets looked unsafe, and overall the room felt neglected and not properly maintained.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The manager is amazing and super communicative. The location is perfect, easy access to many different areas. Could use some updating and some deep cleaning, but overall a great hotel. Would definitely stay here again!!
- Kristina (9/5): - Scenic view
- Connie (8/5): - The location was great for us, and the gentleman who ran the front desk was incredibly helpful.
- Marsha (7/5): Great location, great views, rooms were pretty-clean - Right on the water. Wish the bar area
Was open for business it would be lovely to sit out and watch the boats, music and have a cocktail and others. They do have tables and chairs to sit out with your own cocktails. It was nice and quiet. Room was nice, the property needs some updates inside and out but it didn’t cause a problem. No other hotels even close. Cant beat the view!!
Very close to the Vivo museum. Staff of two men were great and helpful! Needs some updates inside and out
- Phil (10/5): -
- Maribeth (4/5): Will do in a pinch but would not recommend - The place is in desperate need of an update. The carpet was stained, the bedding had stains on it and the towels were new unwashed and blue. Weird. The AC was so loud and there was 1 flat pillow per person.
- joann (10/5): Diamond in the rough! - It’s not The Plaza, but so what. It’s clean, everyone is friendly, and the property is beautiful! The lake view is fantastic, and great bars and restaurants nearby. We’ll be back next year!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Had so much potential but disappointed - Great location, reasonable price. Potentially a nice cute little tidy, attractive room. Owner had good communication the days leading up to our stay. Estimated between 16-20 rooms, all with balconies overlooking the Fox River waterfront. However, the room smelled like diapers (we think it was the A/C unit) and the end of the corridor smelled like cat urine covered by many chemicals. The bathroom exhaust fan hardly did anything to move air around (steamy) and there was mold on the ceiling and wall of the shower area. The water smelled bad and stayed on our bodies into the day... my wife has light brown stains in her white hair. The outer door was never locked the 4 days we were there, day or night, and they do not have a night desk person. We would have complained and/or switched hotels but we were there for a very busy nearby convention and changing everything up would have created upheaval.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely little place, excellent staff - This property was a great find. It’s a nice little hotel with a great location. Staff was excellent and very friendly.
Only issue was that the wifi wasn’t working, but they are working on a system upgrade and expect this to resolve soon.
- Christophe (10/5): - What’s not to like? It’s right on the lake, got a huge parking lot, my room had the lake view, it was clean and comfortable. I could not ask for more.
- Mark (5/5): Staff and locatiob - Staff and location were excellent. Third time using hotel, still no internet. Was told hotel had been sold but was not in yet..
Room had peeling paint on wall by bed. Bathroom ceiling was falling apart, hallway had ceiling damage from water leak in the past.
Door was extremely hard to close and bathroom shower wall had hair stuck to it...
- kristina (10/5): - I flew out to visit my dad who just entered hospice.. The front desk gentleman made an exception the check me in a little early after my flight came in and I really appreciated it!
- Irene (10/5): - Stayed one night nice and quiet.
- Shawn (6/5): Decent hotel in a great location - The hotel is in a great location. It has a great view of the river behind it. It was optimal to the work we were doing in the area. Restaurant across the street was great and convenient. The staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel is older. Which was fine. But the water smelled and tasted terrible. Probably old pipes? The bed we were in was hard as a rock.
- Donna (8/5): - The view was nice. Staff great
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - The location.
- Gregory (6/5): - Place was clean and manager was friendly and helpful. But no amenities at this basic hotel room. No wifi, no iron, no breakfast, etc. There is a fridge and microwave in room. Price was right and place was OK but I'll probably splurge for something nicer next time.
- Lynn (8/5): - Good location. Room OK.
Just the basics
- Betsy (7/5): Over priced - Location was great. They do not have WiFi which we needed for summer school. The property is sold and the developer takes ownership in September. No maintenance being done. Our bathroom ceiling was peeling really bad. Daughter’s air conditioning worked on and off in 90 degree weather. Shower is for someone under 5 feet tall. There were no vacancies yet the parking lot only had 8 cars in it at night for a 20 room hotel. My guess is there are rooms that are trashed and not renting them out.
- Nicole (8/5): Very good -
- scott (8/5): - Great stay and good price. Helpful staff
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dan (5/5): Good place to lay your head at a reasonable price point - Good location, nice view of the water if you are fortunate enough to get on that side of the building. As it is summer, and this area seems to be inundated with folks on weekend getaways or summer vacation, the price point of this location fit the bill as a place to sleep at a reasonable cost. The staff was professional and kind, and directed us to a few local dinner options. The water had a sulfur~ish smell to it. Not overpowering, but evident. The A/C worked well, humming right along at a pretty significant decibel level and blocking out any road noise, but when it reached the desired temp and shut down, we woke up thinking something was wrong, lol. Decided to try some earplugs the next night and slept like a baby.
- Lisa (6/5): Pleasant -
- Susan (10/5): - Everything great.
- James (8/5): Updating in progress? - Great for the price. Room was partially updated (painted walls). Seems like it may be new owner, slowly updating. Room was clean, new bedding, new towels (but never washed, so dye came out of towels). Room for improvement, but was satisfied.
- Andrea (1/5): Very disgusting!! - Location When we checked in.. we found dried blood on the comforter… and the mattress had bed bug markings… we went to the font desk and said we were NOT staying!! The clerk said we would be refunded… we have not received refund as of yet
- Ronald (5/5): Good place in a pinch - Property was very easy to access at all times during the day. Old, a bit run down. Room was small and the A/C sounded like a freight train. Had to sleep with my head down and feet towards the headboard to avoid the A/C noise.
- Claire (6/5): Pleasant - Clean Air conditioner didn't work, loud noises all night from cars on the highway
- Rick (6/5): - The room was fine but they need a water softener severely! heavy Iron in the water.
- Anthony (8/5): - Nice people. Clean place
- Diane (10/5): - The Manag was super Helpful! I loved the View of the river from my room.
Everything was great.
- Phil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (8/5): ZZzzz - Where I needed a hotel to be. No food. Some road noise.
- Laura (9/5): Wonderful view - Great view of the river, clean quiet room
- Forrest (9/5): Superb -
- Judith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gail (10/5): - The owner was friendly and made sure that I understood he was a phone call away if there were any after hour issues. He explained everything at check in and answered any questions. I would definitely stay again if I needed a place in the area!
- Bill (6/5): Great location friendly staff but no WiFi and water in room had odor - Location and friendly staff No WiFi. Water had smell to it
- James (10/5): Nice, Comfortable Accommodation in Johnsburg right on the Fox River. - Waterfront Hotel and Marina is a great small hotel on a nice riverfront location with basic yet comfortable accommodations. The only thing I didn't like was that the drinking water had a slight sulfur taste.
- Ashley (6/5): - It's quiet and not a lot of people. The location is close to what i needed. The view with the balcony is nice. No smoking on the balcony though.
- John (10/5): - Great owner who took care of everything requested! Super convenient with easy parking for large UHaul truck
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice older place. - Cool little hotel nice Mexican restaurant across the street.
- Kimberly (10/5): - Great for a few nights. Riverfront room had nice view. Was in early spring so no var outside area set.up but it looks.like it would be great.
Nice staff at front desk.small room but everything you needed.
Would stay again.
- Dustin (2/5): - Stayed here a few weeks ago, i know the review isa but late however everyone needs to know my experience. I was in town for work, booked this nice looking spot on expedia, i get there after a 4 hr drive and check in, they did let me check in early however i went to shower and the water had a horrible metallic smell along with messed my skin up bad. There were box elder bugs all over the room i flushed about 40 of them throughout ny night. Wheb checking out the lobbby was closed so i was unable to make a complaint. 1 star.
- Hintz (10/5): Exceptional - The price and the location and the staff were exactly as expected. Gary was informative, helpful, and welcoming. That my stay was only one night. We will definitely be returning.
- Jerry (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful spot Nothing
- Mark (8/5): - Close to where i neede to be
- Robert (10/5): - The absolute cleanest room I've ever had! Price is extremely fair.
- Norry (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (7/5): Good -
- Daniel (10/5): Excellent room. - Very clean quiet comfortable room. Had some issues with wifi. Plenty of free parking. No restaurants close by. Staff is excellent. No breakfast offered.
- Bromber (3/5): Poor - Toilet was running all night
- James (10/5): - Fair price for a fair room. Not Shangri-La. but I didn’t pay Shangri-La prices. Good deal for your money.
- Todd (10/5): - Just a nice little hotel nearby my family. Have stayed here many times. Gary at the front desk is great. Always calls me before arriving to confirm the reservation. Overall, a very convenient and economical place for me to stay.
- Fitzgerald (9/5): We had a wonderful stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay there again -
- Huber (10/5): Exceptional -
- Erwin (10/5): - ?
- Scott (10/5): - Front desk clerk was friendly and helpful. Room was clean and everything worked.
- Brown (8/5): Very good -
- Jim (5/5): Passable - The wall unit for the heater needs servicing. The fan kept going on for 5 seconds and turn off.
- Anwar (8/5): Very good -
- Autumn (10/5): Would definitely stay again - My stay was amazing! Very quiet and peaceful. Not much around but if you ask the employees try will be glad to help.
- Phyllis (8/5): - It was great for an over night stay.
- Theresa (5/5): It was clean but you can see some wear and tear in the walls ect but it has been there for years - Close to our function ,was clean, and Gary was super nice at the front desk Bed to hard and tv only got very limited channels for the price of the stay
- Jonathan (8/5): - Checking in was really easy and the staff is very friendly. Room was alright some small improvements would be better bed, if they would clean the spider webs around the balcony, and the water had a very harsh metal smell. If you are only staying for a few days don't shy away.
- alice (10/5): - I had a great stay… will def come back!
- Amanda (10/5): - Staff was friendly. Property was quiet at night but not much around without driving. There isnt room service which is listed, both restaurants are closed. Property is kind of old, but clean. Great place for the price.
- Amery (10/5): - Comfy bed and hot water. Over all nice stay with a great view of the river. Only complaint would be sliding glass doors need cleaned for a better view.
- Rachel (8/5): - Clean, nice location, friendly staff
