Guest Reviews

- Diana (9/5): - The property is amazing. Many great hiking trails. We enjoyed greatly watching coatis and agoutis in the morning and came upon 3 collared peccarys on one walk. The staff is kind and helpful. The food was good. We also greatly enjoyed the hummingbirds. One afternoon (because my phone case is red) a dozen or so hummingbirds perched on my phone, head, arms and hovered inches from my face. One briefly checked for nectar up my nose! Would have appreciated heat in the room. It was very cold. We did have lots of blankets.
- Toby (8/5): Off the beaten track! - Amazing hidden location albeit a bit tricky to find. Beautiful hummingbirds and other wildlife including glass frogs. Very friendly and accommodating staff and nice fresh food reasonably priced. Great shower. Good unusual place to stop if doing Blue Falls. Heavy rainfall!
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Edward (9/5): Superb -
- Zia (2/5): - Dirty, dark, unsafe and insanely expensive, total waste of money and a terrible experience.
- Edward (9/5): Superb - Violet sabrewing Price.
- Brenda (10/5): We had a wonderful and relaxing time and enjoyed our waterfall hikes while there. - It was a beautiful property with many trails to walk on. The birds, in particular, the hummingbirds were incredible. Everything was very clean and well maintained. Mario was a great host and took great care of us. Nothing.
- Jim (10/5): Staff was was very friendly and accommodating and the room was very clean in a beautiful setting - Hummingbirds, hiking trails, waterfalls Nothing
- Luis (9/5): I surely want to come back - Great forest environment with a lot of wildlife. Food was good and the staff was very helpful is helping us to find the animals we wanted to see Just keep in mind that the road from here to San José is very steep and can be tricky with mist and rain
- Isabell (10/5): Wonderful place to disconnect - We loved how peaceful and secluded this place is. Mario treated us really well and showed us a lot of different animals and gave us great local tips. The food was also excellent and home made. Rooms are spacious and clean!
You have several paths leading from the property to the forest.
- Edward (8/5): Very good - lots of sabrewings and green crowned brilliant hummingbirds not many tanagers come to the feeders
- Edward (9/5): Hummingbird paradise - Close to birding locations None.
- Maria (10/5): THE place to see hummingbirds! - We had the most amazing stay and the staff (thank you Mario in particular!) couldn't have been more accommodating of our photography needs! The place is teeming with wildlife which was the reason for our stay: hundreds of hummingbirds around the feeders along with many other spacial sightings in and around the lodge including a quetzal exceeded our expectations by far! Our room was very (very!) spacious with the most comfortable bed we've had during our time in Costa Rica (it wasn't "extra firm" like most others...) Really struggling to find something here to be honest, the place could be signposted a bit better along the road I guess, that would have been reassuring during the drive on the very steep, winding road that led us there in the fog. We even drove past it the first time as the gate was closed when we arrived (although to be fair there is a big sign at the actual entrance gate, it just didn't look like an entrance to a lodge to us, but that was our mistake and we were greeted as soon as we came up to the gate).
- Thierry (8/5): Very good -
- Arudappa (10/5): we enjoyed the stay, breakfast was excellent, host and staff we were very kind - location, people
- Víctor (10/5): A wonderful place to forget everything and experience nature. - Excellent place. Beautiful sight and the personal and owners are very kind and helpful. It is not easy to get to the place, for Costa Rica has a difficult terrain, and Bosques de Paz is right in the middle of a forrest.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - A little hidden corner of bliss!
- Leiva (9/5): Superb -
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Lynn (10/5): - Mario was a great bird guide, but the tour was only on the property. It would be nice to have night tours and birding trips off the property. The internet service could have been better. The food was good, and the staff was helpful.
- Lisa (2/5): Terrible service - Attempted to move stay from 12/26 to 12/29, owner said there were no rooms available even though rooms were available on the website and hotels.com. Way to expensive, terrible CSR (except Hotels.com CSR was great). Recommend staying at las cabanas instead or anywhere else if you have a car
- Jason (8/5): Don't recommend unless you like tent camping - Hotel was clean, things to do and hotel amenities are non existent, no ac, no tv, no bar glad I was only there 2 days,. Food was good
- Verified traveler (6/5): - + the staff was very friendly and helpfull.
- price we booked the place room was almost twice of what it was offered for during our stay.
+ breakfast was good or perfect,
- - But dinner: Do NOT eat here. any place in the neighborhood has better food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful place, we saw lots of birds and wildlife, food was delicious, staff were so helpful and friendly, we had a wonderful time here.
- MS (10/5): - Not just a hotel but an unforgettable experience away from the typical tourist attractions. Take a hike up to the Fatima Waterfall and enjoy the peaceful water that flows adjacent to the hotel. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Completly relaxing stay - A relaxing paradise in middle of the forest. The running water sounds invite you to sleep and rest while nature regenerate your soul.
- Verified traveler (10/5): This is a beautiful place. Staff is great. - According to the website, it was supposed to be close to Volcan Poas. We were disappointed to find out that it is 2 hours from the volcano. However, we were not disappointed by the hotel or staff. It was a beautiful, tranquil place.
- Mike (10/5): The location and views are splendid. - You're in the forest, surrounded by streams, birds, and various wildlife. The staff is helpful and attentive. The owner introduces himself, makes you feel welcome and appears genuinely interested in your satisfaction.
- Denise (10/5): Exquisite location - Beautiful location & well maintained hiking trails. Staff were all very kind. We enjoyed the rustic feel & the hummingbirds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Friendly staff... Beautiful grounds. - Can't my beds, cute rooms, good food. Definitely take time to hike around. It's positively beautiful here.
- Wendy (8/5): Brilliant for hummingbirds - Brilliant for hummingbirds. Excellent bird guide Daniel. Room like a cave try to get room 6 or at least upper level. dinnner a little disappointing and coffee not available early morning.
- Rich (10/5): The Perfect Peacefull Get Away - This resort was perfect, and a great value. The private preserve was great. We hiked every Km of the well maintained and marked trails. If you want a comfortable place to just relax, unwind and enjoy nature, this is it! The staff were absolutely great, very friendly and very responsive. Buy he optional meals, they were excellent and there are not many local options. We are experienced world travelers, and highly eco end this Eco-resort!
- Jan (10/5): Paradise for bird watchers, photographers - The rooms are basic, but you don't want to spend a lot of time there anyway. The feeling of being in the Garden of Eden draws you outside to the rushing little river, the dozens of hummingbirds zooming around the well-stocked feeders, the lovely grounds and the selection of hiking trails. The focus here is on conscious conservation and nature study and enjoyment, but the breakfast (included) was excellent and the dinner (extra) good. There are a couple of sodas in the village down the (very dark) hill as alternatives for supper if you have independent transport. We found the staff extremely service-oriented and helpful, and would definitely like to visit Bosque de Paz again.
- Rico (10/5): Watch birds from the breakfast table - The hotel is in a privately owned biological reserve, and you can watch animals and birds from the breakfast table. Our hosts gave us the warmest welcome. They were very knowledgeable and took pride in pointing at all the different birds and animals. The home cooked food was delicious.
The rooms are spacious, clean, and nicely decorated, but it felt like a waste spending too much time inside. The grounds are amazing and maintained with love and passion. There are several well marked trails, which you can explore on your own or with a guide. We took the long new trail to the waterfall, and it didn't disappoint: apart from the waterfall, we saw pacas, coati, a snake, and even some wild pigs.
