Guest Reviews
- robert stanton (6/5): - Needs a tad more maintenance.
- Philippe (4/5): A éviter - Très mauvaise expérience !
- Verified traveler (6/5): Don't do it - Property stuck in the 80s. No a/c. Mattress like sleeping in a tarp.
- Marie-Yvonne (8/5): A REFAIRE !
Chambre impeccable.
- Paul (10/5): - Not enough parking. No gate guard during Carnival to keep non-guests out. WiFi didn’t work in mornings or evenings. Need many more or better routers!
- Kenyatta (8/5): Convienent and sweet - This hotel is set in a great location on the island. It is in the center town; 5 min walk to beaches and ferry that takes you to Fort-de- France. The hotel has 2 lovely pools and ita own private beach. The rooms are very small yet cozy. The kitchenette on the balcony came in handy during our stay. My only complaint, the bed was very uncomfortable. The matress was paper thin!! All in all. Great hotel to stay at. If you want to travel to other beaches and tourist sites, rent a car. Cabs are very expensive, 40 to 70 euro.
- Jenn (4/5): Better speak French - All I can say is that Expedia hyped this place up. The name of the hotel doesn't match, it took our driver an hour to figure out it was the right place. Amenities are okay but when they promise a bilingual staff, it's not the case. Definitely fit the French persona - if you don't speak their language, good luck.
- Roy (8/5): Great Location - First of all, there is no Hotel La Marina. Cab driver never heard of it. Hotel Carayou is the real name of this resort, but read on. You must give this name (Carayou) and check in at this location. Once there at Carayou insist on Hotel La Marina booking. Not knowing this (who would?) we were instead provided with a substandard room at the resort which we immediately refused noting that it did not include the promised kitchenette. We were then told (and only then) that they had made an error and that we would get the correct room in the nonexistent Hotel La Marina, but not until the next day as they had overbooked or something. The next day we were provided with the correct room in a building on the site secretly named La Marina. That name can only be found on the individual room doors that include the actual room number. All site signs have a different name for this building. This room was as promised and we were very satisfied from that point on.
The resort is mostly filled with guests from France who have selected an all inclusive package with meals included. They are provided with an arm band identifying them as such. As a guest in the nonexistent Hotel La Marina you may use all of the resorts facilities excepting that you must pay for meals if you choose the site restaurant. While walking about the surrounding area we discovered only four Americans. We had a great time here and fault no one for speaking French. We muddled through.
- Laurent (6/5): Very well located - Very good location. Nice hotel
- Nae & Joe (8/5): Would recommend, felt quite safe - Was happy with everything but had booked and paid for a room for two with a kitchenette, this was not provided until we had re-iterated what our booking included. We were eventually given a room with a kitchen (was basically a cupboard) but certainly not what was shown on the booking!!
- Robert (6/5): Do not book if you are on business - No 110v outlets and no adapters. Intermittent and often non existent internet.
- Richard (8/5): Great Location - This "residence" is actually on the grounds of the Carayou Hôtel & Spa and when you book there you have use of the all of the hotels facilities, including two pools. (There were however, lots of kids in these pools and we found the beach, where we could also swim, much more relaxing.) It is important to know that you check in for the "Residence La Marina at the Carayou hotel's desk (knowing that would have saved me an hour of walking around trying the find the Residence's office). This hotel has a great location and is a short and cheap local ferry ride from Fort de France that runs regularly throughout the day; the hotel is an easy 5-minute walk around the marina from where the ferry docks. The hotel's outdoor facilities are great. We did not use the hotel's restaurant while we were there as we were not attracted to the buffet they were offering. The room itself was comfortable and clean with an outdoor patio (we were on the ground floor) that had a "kitchen" that included a small cooktop, microwave, and refrigerator with a limited amount of cutlery, plates, etc.; not adequate for major meal preparation, but worked for breakfasts, lunches and keeping our drinks cold. There are some great restaurants within walking distance, as well as a bakery and small market. We would stay here again if we found ourselves in that area of Martinique.
