- 659kristinag (4/5): Overpriced - The best thing about our stay was the fantastic landscape we watched from the pub and the restaurant. The room was small and very basic and we had a two course dinner in the evening and the portions were so small that we couldn’t believe our eyes. Very high priced for what we got. If I go back, I would just sit in the pub, having something to drink and look at the landscape.

Family of five celebrated a birthday.when asked about what foods were in the high tea Curried egg and cucumber sandwich , sausage roll, one spring roll, cakes and terrible cannoli ! They were carried to our table on tiered cake , which the server then put on the floor while he placed the other on the table …..food on the floor?? On this day it was 12° outside , cold and windy. It felt like 12° inside…aircon on cold ! We asked for it to be turned off or the temperature up …. Can’t help you ? Staff and the view were terrific , but your menu needs some serious updating !
- Pat512016 (4/5): Disappointing High Tea at Hydro Majestic - I have been to the Wintergarden for High Tea, and loved the ambience and views and food. So I went with my family to celebrate my birthday. They asked if we were celebrating and we told them it was my birthday. When the racks came out, they had written Happy Birthday for one of my guests plates. The cost of High Tea was quite high, $65 basic and $75 for Asian. We had 2 Asian and 3 ordinary. The scones were hard as if they had been reheated. The steamed rolls in the basket (Asian) were cold and spring rolls were cold and hard. The waiters and waitresses were young and untidy in appearance and had difficulty understanding requests. The bathroom was very dirty. This establishment has gone down the drain in quality of food, service and general upkeep. I am extremely disappointed.
- 318nd (8/5): Afternoon Tea - Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the views due to low lying cloud. However, I suspect they were brilliant. Afternoon tea was OK and a glass of sparkling wine was good value. The history tour was quirky.
- Nick3030 (6/5): Stunning Views but Average Room facilities - One of the smallest rooms I’ve stayed in, considering the ratings. The room was elegant, but the bathroom’s lack of upkeep was disappointing, with cracked taps and bath recesses. The absence of a blind or sheer curtain meant we had to choose between no natural light or no privacy. Additionally, there was no mirror in the bedroom, and the bathroom was too small to use the full-length mirror effectively. Our room faced the car park and highway, so traffic noise was noticeable, and the water pressure from the next-door shower was very loud. The public spaces were stunning, with magnificent views from the dining rooms, but the “upgraded rooms with a view” offered at an additional fee had obstructed views and weren’t worth the extra cost. We switched back to our original room after seeing the upgrade. No room service or lifts are available, which should be noted on their website, as it would be challenging for less abled guests to carry luggage up to their rooms without assistance. The coffee with breakfast was exceptional, but the breakfast itself was a bit underwhelming. Overall, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again if we were in the area.
- Storyteller379112 (6/5): People should read the booking - Just attended a High Tea at Hydro Majestic, the atmosphere was fantastic, the service, excellent, but it would have been even better if they bothered to take notice of my booking when I booked on line, I specifically said that I was lactose fee, but was given food with dairy in it.So disappointing.
- Brightoncardinal (8/5): Iconic Hotel - On our way north we passed this place and chose to book on our return to Sydney to celebrate my wife's birthday. It is an iconic hotel in a wonderful location. I would sttongly recommend booking a room with valley view and just hope you don't have the low cloud and rain we did. Its an old hotel, and the only reason I've not scored 5* is that several areas need some care and attention to bring them back to modern standards.
- traveller1234562015 (6/5): The experience didn’t quite live up to the expectation. - The historic hotel has been renovated in a stylish and comfortable way. The public areas are truly lovely. We really enjoyed the bar and were treated to music on the grand piano by a very talented musician. Thank you. The restaurant area is set out well with I believe panoramic views of the Megalong Valley. Sadly it was a whiteout when we were there.. but that’s life. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed dinner in the Boilerhouse Restaurant. It was pizza night and they were absolutely delicious and well priced. We couldn’t see the view due to the fog but we did enjoy the kangaroos who hopped by. Parking was easy and plentiful but it was mid week. There were a few disappointments. Firstly, I requested a tour of the hotel which I believe is really interesting. I received an email saying they were doing tours and I just needed to let the staff know upon arrival. Turns out that they didn’t have anyone to do them so we missed that treat. Secondly, our room was very small. No mirror in the bedroom which I found impractical as I wanted to dry my hair whilst my husband used the bathroom. The TV was mounted in an awkward position and tricky to see despite it swinging away from the wall. Finally, the breakfast was unbelievably disappointing. For a fine dining hotel, the hot food offered was barely warm. There was a good assortment of pastries, breads, cereals and fruit and yoghurts. We stayed at a boutique hotel the following day and their breakfast was out of this world. Freshly cooked to order. There were not many people eating breakfast and I believe a hotel of this calibre should be able to offer residents something far better. I have passed by the Hydro Majestic several times and always wondered what it would be like to stay. I’m not in any hurry to return, or recommend.
- X5214WPjohna (2/5): Extremely Disappointing - So looking forward to staying in this iconic hotel and boy what a disappointment. We had a room on the top floor with a great view of the valley, unfortunately that was the only good thing about the room. There was lots of marks on the walls some mold on the ceiling and a very worn and crocked lampshade. Being on the top floor there are about 40 stairs (no lift because of heritage listing) and without a bell boy good luck getting cases to your room. We ate there and at the main restaurant and bistro the service was poor (forgotten drinks and forgotten that one person needed gluten free). We I mentioned the state of the room I was told road works outside was delaying maintenance and the heritage listing meant little could be done. I suggested a bit of paint and changing a lampshade wouldn't be effected by the roadworks or heritage listing I was quickly shut down. The Blue Mountains is a great place with lots of lovely places to stay and eat the Hydro isn't one of them. I do have photos but I think you get the picture
- wbpld (6/5): A very expensive view - If we had paid $200-300 per night for our room at the Hydro Majestic, I would be rating it four or five stars. However, we paid about $600 per night for the second highest room category at the property, and it was definitely not worth the money. The room itself was a major disappointment. Yes, it had spectacular views out of sliding glass doors to a balcony, but the room itself was incredibly cramped, fraying around the edges and need of a refresh. We were surprised that the sliding doors were permanently locked, so we could not go out and enjoy the balcony. The lobby, dining room, bar and long corridor leading to the rooms are grand and beautiful, with old-world elegance and charm. Many of the other common areas, however, are less grand and seem sort of sad and abandoned. The Hydro Majestic must have been an exquisite property in its day, but that day was a long time ago. The dining room and bar get direct sunlight when the sun is setting and the staff lower blinds to block the glare. That makes it difficult to enjoy the views (which are the main attraction of the Hydro Majestic) during happy hour and dinner. Service is generally competent, but not what one would expect from such an expensive hotel. The vast majority of the public-facing staff are young foreigners on a working holiday in Australia. They are sweet and earnest, but that's no substitute for the seamless service provided by experienced professionals. One exception was the Armenian gentleman in the dining room, whose excellent customer service is exactly what we would have expected at a hotel of this stature. You'll probably like the Hydro Majestic if you can ignore the prices and lower your expectations of an exquisite five-star experience.
- 605chowy (8/5): Getting very tired and needs maintenance - I love going to the Hydro Majestic but it is starting to desperately need some repairs and maintenance doing on it. Paint peeling off the walls, carpet looking dirty and very worn. Attention to detail with cleaning needed. Our airconditioning in our room not working properly so we checked to see and the filter had not been cleaned for a very long time. The fluff was so thick no wonder it couldn't work. Cleaned it out and worked really well. Meals nice, staff very friendly and helpful. Boiler house very very disappointed with both staff and food. Maybe time to look for a new destination
- susen2016 (8/5): Great location, room could be cleaner - The hotel is definitely lovely and has lots of old world charm. The rooms can be basic but have everything you need. The views, the staff and the breakfasts are my favourite part. Sitting in the comfy armchairs with a drink looking out into the valley while it was raining was a highlight. My only gripe was the state of the shower. Black mold all through the tiles on the floor, on the paint on the wall and the ceiling. At this price point that shouldn’t be happening. I don’t mind the older bathrooms and things looking a bit weathered but the mold is poor form.
- SleepySue14 (10/5): Fabulous stay - We had a very peaceful and relaxing stay at the Hydro Majestic hotel. Just what one needs before the silly season kicks in. The ambience, the welcoming staff and the overall cleanliness was fabulous. We caught the train to the hotel from Sydney and the hotel is only a short walk to the Medlow Bath station. Specifically thankyou to Mahesh and your team for being such wonderful ambassadors for the hotel. My husband enjoyed the history tour. I enjoyed my jalapeno margarita at the Belgravia lounge. Buffet breakfast was awesome and the pizza's at the Boiler house were delicious. We also dined at Wintergarden but it was foggy and misty on that night so no sunset view possible. The service was impeccable and whilst it is fine dining so don't turn up hungry should be experienced at least once during your stay. I highly recommend this hotel and yes we will be back in 2026!!!
- KMCanberra (10/5): The overnight package is well worth it - My darling husband booked three nights including High Tea and Wintergarden dinner for my birthday, having told me many times about staying with his parents in this historic hotel when he was a kid. We arrived the day after the Bondi massacre and to be honest I was feeling like s*t. Still am. However - if anything could do you good, this is the place. Ironically, given the location, we arrived and spent the first 36 hours in thick cloud! But the Belgravia lounge - its deep lounges, its quiet calm, its enormous windows - soothed me, and after bar snacks and a few fantastic negronis we strolled through the hotel and were thrilled by its history. The following morning we relaxed in the deep-red chinoiserie surroundings of the Salon de The and read books, went for a walk, and later had a truly impressive dinner in the Wintergarden - we have high standards and were genuinely impressed by the food. Finally the cloud lifted the next day, and our Valley View room was worth what we paid - the view is miraculous. Our High Tea was in contrast with dinner a bit ordinary - less fresh, less delicious, but good scones and when we asked for extra cream and jam, the wait staff didn’t stint. We absolutely loved this experience and are already planning to return. By the way, we came by train which is very easy; the station is 7 minutes’ walk away.
- 996amandav (10/5): Treated like royalty - We were welcomed with open arms and treated like absolute royalty. Yes its a gorgeous place but its the staff that makes this place exceptional. It was such good value for money. Next time i will book a valley view room.
- Sydney_JT (2/5): Old, tired and out of touch - What a terrible experience. So very disappointing - from first being seated to leaving, utterly underwhelming. As we sat down, we were told we had a 90-min window on the table. There was one other table occupied (in total) so they were far from busy. Took 45 minutes to receive our order in full (half of the orders arrived about 10-mins before). Food was average - that is being generous. At the 90-min 'mark' we were told we had to leave as there was another booking and the bill was placed on the table. We were not asked if we'd like another glass of champagne/anything else - just given the bill. I pointed out the lengthy delay in receiving our food and the guy 'in charge' left us alone for a bit. Funnily no one arrived sweating on the table. So he lied. At this point, no one had brought our tea for the so-called 'high tea', and we were going to have more champagne but gave up on that. Half an hour later and the rude staff member from earlier was telling us he'd given us 2-hours and we had to go. Absolutely disgusting. Then, of course, they don't take cash and there was some protracted process trying to pay, Some butler guy at reception asked us how our experience was as we left and when I told him a little of what happened he just walked away. ...old world charm my arse. Old, tired and out of touch.
- durbs012018 (10/5): Stunning views of Blue Mountains - Had an overnight break in Blue Mountains and decided to stay at the famous Hydro Majestic as we had heard it was quite the heritage hotel with stunning views, and we were delighted with our stay! Our room was a good size with a very comfy bed and lovely bathroom, it’s worth paying the extra to get the best rooms. But the view was the standout feature, a clear panoramic vista of the Blue Mountains, we pulled the sofa chairs over and just watched the sunset, beautiful! Special shoutout to Mahesh who looked after us so very well and made it a really memorable mini break for us
- 509fernt (10/5): Beautiful stop on your trip between Katoomba and Blackheath - We stopped here for the view and ended up staying for a lovely meal at the Boiler House followed by an amazing dessert & coffee in the cafe. Staff were very nice and the views were truly spectacular. The building itself is worth the visit; an old grand hotel. Next time in the neighborhood I will plan to take a tour of the facility, and maybe even stay the night. Highly recommend this stop on your way to/from Blackheath.

Special thanks to Mahesh at Reception and Manager Adam for acknowledging our special circumstances and facilitating the change of date. Very clean and well styled Heritage room with lovely garden view, and an excellent dinner at top tier restaurant.

- Mickmus (6/5): High Tea needs to go higher - Hard to beat the spectacular views and ambience of the Wintergarden Restaurant. However, you go to a restaurant for the food and service. Unfortunately both were ordinary. We had the traditional High Tea. Whilst well presented, the bread in tbe sandwich had dried, the scones were dry and crumbly as opposed to warm, fresh and moist. The little sausage roll had been over heated with the pastry dry and hard. The waiters were friendly enough, but weren't easy to flag down, they did not scan the room. We ordered an extra milk, hot water and pott of tea. They forgot the latter and we had to remind them of the pot of tea.
- carollW2455TB (10/5): Food with a flourish and a dash of history - It was my friend’s birthday, so I invited her to High Tea at the Wintergarden, with its panoramic views to the Valley : and then came the afternoon tea platters. We had the traditional version and an oriental one, which had such an array, we didn’t know where to start! There were also beautifully crafted sweet delicacies that looked too fine to eat, but we did!! Thank you to the dear folk who created all of this and the birthday message. We then took a tour through the Hydro with the History guide Mahesh: he explained the story and personalities behind the building, and highlighted features as we strolled the length of the buildings. We delighted in the striking decor of the many public rooms, as Mahesh gave more insights such a secret passageway! Our hour long amble ended at the Pavilion Cafe, where there are artifacts to view. It was a truly memorable birthday celebration!
- PapiyaC993 (10/5): Wonderful - We spent two wonderful nights at the Hydro Majestic Hotel. We loved the feeling of the yesteryears and our room had a beautiful view overlooking the Megalong Valley. The staff were courteous, respectful and helpful , especially the Duty Manager - Mahesh Kumarasena and Tara who were very attentive to our needs. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and catered for different dietary needs (as far as I could work out) and again the staff were courteous and attentive, especially Emma. All in all, we spent two wonderful nights and would recommend the Hydo Majestic for those who appreciate the yesteryears.

- stephenmY4541QE (4/5): Overpriced and underwhelming. - tl;dr: view - spectacular; atmosphere - tired and a tad dingy; dinner - expensive but decent; breakfast - awful; service - hit and miss; rooms - tiny and over-priced; value - non-existent; amenities - not great, pub-quality; cleanliness - mostly satisfactory, except for the common bathroom facilities; noise level - acceptable for the valley view rooms, but too near the highway for comfort elsewhere. The building is well-decorated, but stands in need of serious renovation works. When you pay this much for a room, you expect the hotelier to invest in the maintenance and upkeep of the building to the extent that exterior concrete is clean and weeds don't grow between the cracks, that woodwork doesn't look like it hasn't been touched by a tradesman since 1928, and that bathrooms are somewhat better than an average pub. The Hydro, sadly, is less than Majestic today, and seems to be valued as a opportunity to leverage the natural beauty of the setting in order to relieve guests of more than the actual value of the accommodation provided. We booked two nights in a "Heritage Valley View Room". Bad move. The rooms are cramped and uncomfortable, and while one expects the other rooms to be more spacious, the value proposition doesn't stack up. Even the Heritage Rooms cost more than an average 4/5 star room of similar dimensions (though seriously, I have *never* encountered a 4/5 star room as confining as these). Even the ensuite was more comfortable than the room itself! The furnishings (billed as 'art deco inspired') were at least tasteful, though felt somewhat out of place. The lipstick on this pig was, indeed, artfully applied. But it's still, unquestionably, a pig. The view was spectacular, but inadequate compensation for the intense discomfort of squeezing oneself into the shoebox-like dimensions of this well-appointed torture chamber. A room this small, one imagines, must have been staff accommodation rather that guest accommodation according to the original design, and a single bed would certainly have left sufficient space for a single person to dwell in modest comfort. The "queen size" bed - which was a tad narrow in my view - left far too little space for even one guest to feel any degree of comfort. Set your expectation of the Heritage Room to that of a sleeping pod, and you might be pleasantly surprised, though not with the price tag. As as a regular hotel room it disappoints most intensely. The Belgravia Bar provides a comfortable common lounge, oriented around the panoramic view of the Megalong Valley that the building has been built to utilise to maximum effect, and does so extremely well. However, the splendour of nature is framed by inadequately maintained masonry that leaves the guest feeling a little cheated. The baby grand piano resting invitingly at one end of the room sports a laser printed "Out of Order" message affixed to the fallboard with sticky-tape. Just another invitation to a disappointment party. The gentleman's facility adjoining the lounge features a tastefully decorated vestibule that opens into a period bathroom that carries it's age well, but fails to inspire confidence in the level of hygiene due to the evident age and state of deterioration in the flooring and fittings. There is, however, sufficient soap on hand to instil a modest degree of confidence that standards are maintained in line with regulations if not with value. Dinner at Wintergarden Restaurant was a highlight of the stay at the Hydro. The menu was well executed and met expectations, though a little expensive all things considered. The service was impeccable, however, and meets with our approbation. While we intended to sample the two-course menu upon entering, the quality of the meal was it's own advertisement and we elected to add dessert. The food and service did not disappoint, but it too fell just a little short of the expectation that the price establishes. I'm glad I experienced it once, but would not be tempted to pay twice. The continental breakfast, by contrast, was a thorough disappointment. A 100% 'average' offering with a price tag that evokes wonder for all the wrong reasons. Astoundingly, the self-service buffet on offer does not include any kind of coffee service, prompting the bewildered guest to ask the staff (on the rare moments they actually appear after taking your room number for billing purposes) if coffee is provided at all. The waitress I encountered advised they could indeed take my order, and dutifully produced, with acceptable promptness, a thimbleful of my desired beverage which was unceremoniously plonked - albeit without spillage, but nonetheless, 'plonked' is the only accurate description of the manner of execution. I was truly in awe of the skill it took to cast, as it were, such a tiny cup and saucer upon my table without any eye-contact. It's difficult to describe the effect produced too, by the happy-go-lucky "cheers, mate!" cast over the shoulder in what I assume was my general direction as the waitress swiftly trotted at as seemly as pace as possible back to the kitchen, presumably to avoid needless conversation over the size of the cup and the disparity between it and the general expectation guests would have of a "large flat white". A more satisfactory breakfast can be had across the highway in Medlow Bath, and I highly recommend avoiding the "complimentary breakfast" option, even if you have already paid for it.
- neils245 (4/5): Majestic in views.........................Only! - This is a place that I have driven past many times and always admired the splendour from the outside and imagined how it may have been back in the good old days. An opportunity presented itself to not only stay at the hotel but we availed and did the complete dinner bed and breakfast package. We opted against the room with a view as a price differential of circa $400 seemed excessive, however it is possible that the rooms with views are larger. It is not possible based on the price, they could be smaller, regardless of the views. Upon arrival we met with the perfunctory front desk manager who checked us in and then delivered her monologue on the hotel etc. This kind of set the scene for the next 12 to 14 hours. When we went to our room, its immediate impact was too have us thinking of Paris. Not for the grandeur of the city itself but more the hotel rooms where if you took a cat, you certainly not be able to swing it. It is possible that when the hotel was designed queen beds were not a thing. To describe the room as compact is possibly being generous, however it was well appointed and certainly cozy. The end of bed closed door galley style bathroom was a pleasant surprise with the original shower being designed to get you washed and little consideration to water conservation, and I give the shower a 9 out of 10 rating. We went to the dining room for our dinner, to be greeted with a wine list that had zero imagination, and not much more appeal. The set menu comprised a three course selection that on paper looked quite good. I had chosen the lamb dish and was offered my choice of rare, medium rare or well done, and I chose the well-done version. I love rare steak, but not rare lamb…..given I grew up on a sheep station, I know how I like my lamb! It turned out this choice was purely lip service as the lamb that landed in front of me could not possibly have been started from scratch was barely warmed through at an absolute variety of the rare addition. The 2x entrees and now 2x mains felt as thought they were prepared en masse and reheated as required. The clincher to add a further level of disappointment to the meal was that not only did the compulsory 3 course meal feel a little overpriced prior to eating it, and certainly after it was served, the sides which were essential to the meal were not only overpriced, but also over egged. There was enough there to feed four people and most of it would have gone straight into the bin as it was simply too much for two. The third course of dessert comprised three choices of sweets that I imagine would finish at the bottom of any list of choices for me, and they were mostly left on the plate. As noted above we were there for breakfast as well and the offering was quite good and a pleasant surprise from the experience to date. However in true form when I requested my flat white coffee to be served in a takeaway cup I was politely advised there would be an additional charge if it was served to me in a takeaway cup. The very helpful waitress then pointed out to me but if I were to take a sip of the coffee and then requested a takeaway cup there would be no charge. Go Figure!! I have a rough idea of the demographic the hotel is trying to attract and certainly in my observation I am not one of them. I note that the staff were across the board quite helpful and pleasant, even including al perfunctory receiving receptionist, who was significantly more cheerful on our exit than our arrival, however there is close to nothing that could have me want to stay there again.

You have helped us create such a beautiful memory of three friends who took a long train trip and had an amazing catch up. - U8905NXsarahw (4/5): What a chaotic stay! - What a let down - booked two rooms to take my elderly dad away for a calm weekend. Friday night got an email confirmation but only for one room. Rang reception and reservations for two hours - NO ONE ANSWERED. Rang the following morning at 8am and finally got someone in the restaurant to answer who transferred me to reception we confirmed two rooms. Arrived at 1pm with high tea booked in, the world’s loudest pianist playing in the dining area with both our table and two others asking for quieter music. The trainee wait staff did their best but orders went missing. Room one was lovely for my dad, however the other room looked over the highway, with two broken windows wedged together with cardboard to stop them rattling. Thankfully we ventured to Blackheath for dinner. Breakfast was served until 10am, we arrived at 915 and from 930-10 were told 4 times by staff that they were packing up and to hurry up. Then all of the tables were moved around us. So we gave up and left at 950. This place needs to work out why it charges so much for so little. It’s chaos and needs to work out how to be customer focused

Some staff didn't appear particularly happy. Parking was easy. Road in Medlow Bath is currently being upgraded so can pretty slow getting to the hotel on a weekend.
- janenej (4/5): What has happened here!! - What a frustrating stay we just had, at our no longer favourite mountain getaway. Husband and I won’t be back that’s for sure. Where do I start? A little confusion over the room we had booked which could have been easily sorted but the staff member got a bit condescending with me, but we got it sorted. Once settled on a room consistent with our usual choice there and after a long trip and check in wait time and hassle, we went to the bar area for some light refreshments, we were told nothing available until 4pm in the bar area. We had to leg it down to the Pavillion tourist shop area cafe and stand in a queue there with non staying guests, with no table service, uncomfortable tin chairs, very noisy, when all we really wanted to do was have a snack and a nice cuppa and relax in the Belgravia Bar and Lounge and soak in the ambience that we were paying $$ so highly for. We came back to the Belgravia Lounge at 7pm to order a light snack/meal and wine as it was now “open”. The lounge room was cold and I had to ask if we could have the gas fire on which was another usual experience on pre stays. The fire gives that lounge area the ambience and focal point it needs. They obliged but seemed a bit couldn’t care less. Our food which was just sourdough bread and spring rolls, but it took over an hour to come out and that was after asking twice (a waiter and then duty manager) if they could check on it as we were starving. We were told it’s busy but the Wintergarden restaurant was more than half empty and there were only a few of us in the Belgravia lounge. Duty manager gave apologies. By the time we got our food we didn’t enjoy it due to the long wait. Disappointed with our evening we walked back to the Delmonte wing along very cold corridors. We then struggled with keeping our room warm as the room had a draft from the window even though it was shut. Next morning we thought we would have our morning coffee in the Belgravia Lounge, warm up by the fire and plan our day trips, but no one was there to run the coffee machine and the fire wasn’t on of course. My husband went out to the foyer to ask if we could order a coffee but was told we could only have a coffee in The Wintergarden as part of the high tea and did we have a booking for the high tea. No we just want a coffee as we were heading out but No you can’t have a coffee in the lounge room until 2pm. At this point it was getting ridiculous and we were made to feel that it was our fault for not knowing the new rules as we were told there was new management and we longer do that. So we are paying $370 per night in a drafty very cold room with no room service and we can’t even order a coffee to sit in the lounge room which has never been an issue in the past. At this point I would like to say the staff seemed to be run off their feet and multi tasking so it was hard for them to provide service that equates to a luxury experience. The Wintergarden is a lovely dining and high tea experience, that goes without saying and is the Hydro’s Jewel in the crown but I wouldn’t bother staying in the hotel again as they have dropped the ball so to speak on their house guests.
- dingosrun1 (10/5): Relaxing and peaceful getaway - The staff here go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms on the ground floor are good sized with enough ensuite space. The access to the restaurant is convenient. The restaurant and bar has incredible views. The bed was clean and comfortable. The breakfast offers a huge array of foods and is available for hours in the morning. The Hydro is close to many great sights on the Blue Mountains.
- Hardyhibiscus (4/5): Disappointing High Tea - Went for afternoon tea at the Wintergarten. Nice view. Scones were tasty, but not the other offerings. Our Wintergarten High Tea was substituted by many fares from the Eastern High Tea because of our food preferences of low sodium, low fat, no cheese, and no raw meat/fish. Ironically, the crab claw and samosa were deep-fried, making both loaded in fat. The petit fours were all very similar in taste and texture, making them very boring.

Window are double glazed so it was still very quiet in our road facing room. The staff were friendly and helpful. The dining room is elegant. Food privey but good quality. We would definitely recommend.

Very expensive to drink and eat and a little too far out of town for us! Definitely not worth the money

- Y5864IWmichaelc (10/5): Bonkers old Hotel - First up, if you're after a five star all sing all dancing 24 hour room service, gym and business centre experience go elsewhere. The hotel itself is the experience. There are several wings, none of the architecture matches, the floors dip as they're on different levels and there are odd bends in corridors. The floorboards creak and it has the world's slowest elevator. The stairs down from our room opened into the hallway through an anonymous door that from the hall looked like a broom closet. The glorious interior decoration leans toward art deco and features some of the world's worst 1920 era paintings hung around the walls, think Luna Park meets Fawltey Towers. It's like staying in a museum. The room itself was a little small but a comfy bed, deep carpets and retro bathroom fittings. Shame you can't open the windows but safety regulations preclude it. Overall think old country pub meets Luna Park meets upscale hotel.Bit picey but an unforgettable experience
- 772damiene (10/5): 5 Stars all the way in the Blue Mountains of NSW! - Boiler House dining experience was average and they only open for dinner on Wednesday and Thursday nights. If you like pizzas then you'll be happy. If you don't. LEAVE. The Wintergarten Restaurant is magnificent and worth every cent. Make sure you take the History Tour as Danny is hilarious and very well informed. The Pavilion is great for a hot "cuppa"and a toasted panni. The history on display is wonderful and facinating. We stayed at Parklands which is another of the Salter Bros properties. 5 Star experience. They will be opening up a restaurant on the premises in November which is really smart. The rooms are very comfortable and warm as are the Staff. Alden is the Duty Manager and Matias is the GM. Two very professional and friendly managers on this wonderful property. They both have loads of emotional intelligence and the Staff follow that through. Our only regret is that we had to go home!

- DeeDeeEG (10/5): Wonderful - highly recommended - We stayed for 3 nights in July 2025 in the Belgravia Valley View room. Upon arrival, we were assisted by Marcus, who carried our bag up to the room for us. As it is an old hotel, the rooms are not as large as the modern hotels (the reason explained on the tour that rooms were small because the common areas were larger - no video games etc. when the hotel was built!). However, it was warm and inviting and the view from the window overlooked the valley below. At that time, there were 2 guides for the history tour, Marcus & Danny. Our tour guide was Danny. He is exceptionally knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed it - and even purchased the 3 books he used on the tour. To 'fill in the blanks', my husband spoke to Marcus who had many fascinating stories to tell over the course of our stay. We had High Tea at the Wintergarden restaurant - which was also the location for the buffet breakfast - and enjoyed it immensely. The view from the window was breathtaking. Another staff member, Bejean (sp?) from the Wintergarden also deserves praise, as do all the staff we met during our stay. The only downside was the placement of the toilet in the bathroom - if you are a larger person, or very tall you may find it hard to use. We will definitely be returning.
- Roam14591218056 (6/5): I enjoyed it - I stayed for two nights Upon arrival in was greeted by the friendly staff and I first commenced my stay with the highly recommended historical tour and I found the guide Danny very informative and i enjoyed the tour . After tea and cake in the Cafe I found the service friendly and excellent. I then made the journey to our room through the beautiful historical building. The room had a lovely view from the small window of Megalong valley. I found the room itself small and lacking nice furniture or fixtures in the old bathroom. We spent the next day touring Megalong valley and Tea and scones highly recommended as well as local lookouts in the area. For dinner we booked the restaurant and once again found the friendly staff warm and friendly, the meal was different interesting . For breakfast included i found the food quality and service excellent. In short excellent service and friendly staff and window view however if your looking for value go elsewhere.

We stayed for two nights on a Monday and Tuesday and I wish we had of known ahead of time that the hotel’s Boiler House is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays as was the Cat’s Alley tea room and bar. These were all facilities we were looking forward to enjoying so I would caution others to consider this if you are thinking of staying on a Monday or Tuesday. Dinner in the Wintergarden was really lovely and the view amazing, very pricey and you will leave hungry though so you will want to have a snack before you go. The breakfast is buffet only and it is not worth the price, the breakfast service is limited and understaffed so food was not restocked and our coffee took so long we were not served it until after we had finished out breakfast. There is a cafe at the hotel that I. Would suggest is a better option but again, it was closed in the mornings while we were there.

The view is stunning if you are able to get a window seat but the High Tea was average. There was nothing outstanding about it and for the price it should have been amazing ($70pp).

- deannasB7096JM (2/5): Weekend away gone wrong - When you arrive the place looks magnificent and beautiful thinking that this is the perfect spot for a weekend getaway, however when greeted by only one nice hotel worker and the rest are giving you a look it doesn’t seem very welcoming anymore. My partner and I stayed in the heritage room whilst it was a small nice room we didnt mind that it didn’t have a smart tv or that the shower head was a bit tiny but for the amount of money they pay for only staying 2 nights you kind of expect a sense of modernisation. However this was the least of our worries… On Saturday we decided to go out and explore th area making the best of our stay however when coming back to the hotel in the afternoon there was no parking left. Yes the hotel does lunch and dinner of anyone however wouldn’t it be better to ensure that your paying customers have their own parking so they aren’t waiting around like headless chickens for 20 minutes waiting for a parking spot. The breakfast included was nice and was a good spread of a buffet however if your charging the amount of money we payed I was expecting a more variety and more available for all your customers as we got there this morning and everything was almost empty and not being refilled. Whilst we had a good stay and we tried to make the most of it, when checking out the lady at the desk could have used some manners which I’m sure she learnt in kindergarten to ask how our stay was and say thankyou for us to stay there instead of saying “your all checked out”. Not even a goodbye? Thankyou for staying here? Wow. If you don’t want to work in customer service I suggest don’t work in a hotel.
- suerX7492WD (10/5): Heavenly Mulled Wine at the Hydro Majestic - We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Clarke at the Hydro Majestic Hotel bar during our Christmas in July stay—and what a highlight it was. Clarke made us the most fabulous mulled wine we’ve ever tasted. It was simply divine—perfectly spiced, beautifully balanced, and served with such warmth and care. Clarke’s passion for what he does really shone through, and the experience added a magical touch to our evening. Honestly, that mulled wine alone would bring me back here again and again every winter. A standout moment of our visit—thank you, Clarke!
- michaelkX6940UA (8/5): Great Hotel with such rich history - As soon as you arrive you are transported back into the early 1900s. The place has had an amazing restoration so doesn’t feel that old. We arrived at 1PM and did the history tour we had prebooked. Definitely worth it to get educated with the hotels rich history. The views are amazing and the wintergarden restaurant was nice for dinner. The rooms are a little small due to the age of the building but tidy with great views. We went to the Buffet breakfast early the first morning and it was great but the Sunday morning at 9:00 was way too busy and staff were struggling to keep the buffet items stocked fast enough. Overall a great time.

Reasonable pricey - $35 for a cheese platter. Didn’t clean my room one of the days and when I spoke to the manager was told that there were no housecleaning staff around! Limited heating in the common areas and hallways.
- 605chowy (6/5): Disappointed - Have stayed at the Hydro many many times but this time I really must say I was extremely disappointed. The room although the same room I book each stay was very substandard and not cleaned well at all. No attention to detail. Air-conditioning still set o summer. Floor was not vacuumed properly and quite dirty. The noise from the inconsiderate person in the room above was not just horrible with bashing and crashing all night long Breakfast each morning, the food was very cold and not at all palatable. On the Sunday baked beans were served . Really in a 5 star premises, I wouldn't serve them to my children. Dinner however is always very good Overall I might have to have a re think about staying at Christmas time. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful especially Vinay who goes out of his way to assist

Ryan Matias and Eman in the Wintergarden were also lovely and helpful. There was not enough warmth in the bar area, so hard to sit around and chat if you are freezing. The hotel is so grand and lovely, i would like to see it do well.
- Andrew (8/5): - A wonderful location with expansive views across the Megalong Valley. The property makes full use of these, from the rooms, dining room and lounge. Its an odd collection of buildings joined together, with many indications of its heyday which is being largely restored. The rooms are quite small, but comfortable, and there are plenty of public spaces to relax in.
- Tracey (10/5): Stunning grand lady of a hotel - The Hydro has so much rich history and the renovation is beautiful. The restaurant is great and the chef outdid themselves with a wonderful dinner. The staff were excellent and so polite. The bar is fabulous for pre and after dinner cocktails. The valley view room was a little small, nicely renovated but the bathroom needs an extra shelf for your toiletries. Overall we had a great stay

The air-conditioning system in our room was not working properly, the staff had to bring in an additional small heater to keep the room warm. There is no in room dining which is a bit of an inconvenience. Considering the price we paid for two nights, I think the Fairmont was a better experience. The view from the room was great and also a big shout out to Marcus for always doing his best to assist, also a big out out to the young lady who checked us in, I failed to get her name.

Then later after dinner when it was quiet, the same staff member saw us looking around and offered to take us on a little tour. We found out his name was Mahesh and he did such a great job of passionately telling us the history of the hotel as we walked through the various parts. It really made our stay. Thanks Mahesh!

Thanks to Marcus and his knowledge, we learnt so much about the history of HM and it made our experience so much more endearing. Every team member assisted us with our enquiries regardless of their allocated/designated work areas (Theresa!) and the rooms and facilities are sinply breathtaking. Thank you Marcus and the entire HM team for making our stay so much more memorable and one we will never forget. We will be back very soon and look forward to creating so many more fond memories here. An absolute 10/10. Thank you!!!!

- briancR9044SY (10/5): Blue Mountain Icon with Impeccaable Service - We stayed at the Hydro as a group of 9 on Luxury Escapes Package. My wife and I had stayed here a number of times but our friends had not.From the seamless check in with the Brilliant Marcus the service was outstanding.Before the check in was completed our bags were whisked away and delivered to our rooms and Marcus personally walked us to our rooms and made sure all the bags were accounted for. This level of service was maintained all through our stay .Emma and Koma in the Wintergarden restaurant to Karishma at checkout and any other staff we encountered all friendly ,helpful, professional and super efficient.The Hotel was spotless and this Blue Mountains Icon is a great Stay.

So many spaces with a wonderful feel to just sit and experience. The views were grand. The history tour with Danny was fabulous and fascinating. He was great! Food was gorgeous as well. All the staff were lovely.

Negative problem is that they did not accept cash, so we had to use our credit card. Then they charged a surcharge because we used a credit card. This policy is not nice. I would not stay there again because of this situation unless they voided the surcharge.

- Kathy (4/5): A sad old dame - This property is a bit sad now, as it’s been given no love. It’s a heritage building and is showing its age, but that’s no excuse for peeling, flaking paint and lack of cleanliness (does anyone check the state of the floor in the lounge bathrooms?). It was a grand design, meant to be filled with people, but now many of the lounges are shut down due to lack of visitors and staff. Some staff (not all) are clearly unhappy and it shows (Belgravia Lounge in particular- check the management there); I think they need much more support. And can you not do better than an array of fried foods or sandwiches for the snack menu there? The only alternative early in the week is the high end restaurant, and that’s too expensive to dine there every night. Seriously, give the staff and the property a lot more love.

The decor (while in keeping with the era) was predominantly black and depressing. However, the Wintergarden Restaurant service and food were impeccable. It was nice having access to the facilities at Lilianfells. Won’t be back. Not value for money.
- williamsZ6440FG (10/5): Meets the standard of a 4 stars hotel hotel - Just stayed a night at The Hydro Majestic and had one of the best experiences. The hotel was easily accessible from the Meadow Bath train station, as there was a clear instruction and guide in the train station on how to get to the hotel. Simply exit the station and follow the white bridge to cross the road and the hotel is on the right side of the Great Western Highway. When we first came, we were assisted by one of the kindest yet professional staff called Marcus. He was so informative in terms of hotel service wise and also some good spots around the area. He remembered my name whenever he saw me and even when we checked out from the hotel. In terms of the room condition, view, food, etc., it meets the standard of a 4 stars hotel. The room was clean and neat, the view was breathtaking, and the menu for the breakfast that the hotel offered was great. Great experience overall and highly appreciated the services, especially by Marcus from the reception team.
- ToniM794 (2/5): 1/10 FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - APPALLING TREATMENT - I would rate the food overpriced and the service received 1/10. My two girlfriends and I had planned a 3 hour train trip and HT at Hydro Majestic since last year. We had all turned 60 and were excited. We lost track of time catching up and since it wasn’t busy we thought the 90 min sitting wasn’t a problem. Wrong. Daisy asked us with 30 mins to go if we wanted take away containers and Ryan came to the table with the bill as another push out the door. We asked to be relocated in the empty restaurant but denied. We were marched out to lounge next door by the only lovely staff member Ezzi (hence the point for service). We had to take our unfinished food, cup, teapot and plate. Great customer service that was. Then Ryan kept treating us as criminals to make sure we paid the bill. I asked him if he wanted my license and a shoe as a guarantee that we would not leave before paying. Mind you they had my details because I had made a reservation. He then kept sending someone to check to see if we were still there. Meanwhile our relocation met with two cranky guests who were reading in the public lounge room and didn’t like us being there talking. When I asked Bibek why we couldn’t just relocate to another table in the Wintergarden he said he’d have to do that for everyone. The restaurant was empty. Three well dressed 60 yo women were treated like criminals and made to feel so unwelcomed. Worst $7.50 cappuccino that we have ever had, stone cold. The Hydro Majestic really needs to learn how to treat their guests. Got a reply back from the F&B manager Bibek who was one of the staff giving the bad service. Said to him that he should not be commenting or dealing with complaints as it’s against him and his staff. Have not had any other communication. Save your money
- terrycD9574RF (2/5): Massively overpriced. - Although paying for the best room option we had a room with inferior bedding, cold floor, not even a tissue box and a room so small you could hardly unpack your baggage without hitting the walls plus a view to a beautiful valley over a dirty balcony with rusting downpipes. The food was OK, but the table service was terrible requiring you to constantly get the attention of inexperienced waitress/waiter to top up drinks. Ther high tea at $200 may be worth (because of the view) it but the $1000 we spent for accommodation and food for an afternoon/evening stay was massively overpriced leaving us extremely disappointed. With no elevators (BTW, invented in the 1850s) we had to carry our bags down 3 floors of stairs without any assistance.

- BonzoD (8/5): Noticeable improvement - We’ve stayed at the Hydro Majestic many years ago and have visited from time to time in between when it was under different ownership and were always a little disappointed that the hotel was not living up to its potential. This time it was different. The staff seemed well trained and were well presented, the facilities had clearly benefitted from a recent $45m restoration and the room was beautifully appointed, albeit a little small (I prefer the word cozy). We were in the renovated Hydro Hotel (Belgravia) section and never noticed the noisy floorboards nor thin walls reported by others. Moreover we had absolute privacy and spectacular views through a large window overlooking over the valley. Service in the Wintergarden Restaurant and Belgravia Lounge was crisp, and the buffet breakfast and high-tea were well presented and delicious. Our package included a History tour by an entertaining fellow called Danny (see photo) who revelled in narrating the colourful history of the place dating back to the 1890s. Altogether a delightful experience and definitely worth the trip for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the charms of the iconic Blue Mountains.

- Kal (10/5): - We spent 2 nights with another couple at the Hydro and loved it! They've updated an iconic property tastefully and kept as many Art Deco features as possible. The staff is excellent. If you're lucky enough to catch the Manager Marcus when he's not busy, he can share some incredibly interest history about the property. He seems to always be on site making sure things are running smoothly. 2 of us had the buffet breakfast which had plenty of choice and was replenished while we were there. Coffee to taste is ordered separately. The view from the restaurants and bar are stunning, and the bartender from Brisbane entertaining. I hope we get a chance to return! This was a return visit for our friends who have been 3 times in the past. They were impressed with the renovations. Would definitely return! There is road construction currently in front of the building, but it didn't interupt our stay.
- 107ashleeb (6/5): Not a place for light sleepers - I was very excited to stay at this hotel due to all the amazing things it had to offer. The high tea is a must and I would highly recommend it. The charm of the hotel is lovely with its old touches. The bed was comfy and although rooms are smaller than most hotels the renovations are adequate. The biggest down fall of this hotel is the creeking floors and thin walls. If you are a light sleeper you will unfortunately hear everything. Everytime someone walks in their room, flushes the toilet, has a shower, coughs you hear it. The floors are extremely squeaky and we were shocked at how loudly we could hear people walking inside their rooms. We were woken at 5am by people in other rooms simply walking. If you are deep sleeper I am sure you would be fine but light sleepers like myself it’s not the best. Very tired after a two night stay.
- Craig (8/5): - The room we stayed in was very nice, a Heritage Valley View Room. It was however very small, but very well presented and styled. The bathroom was good, with a large shower. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The interior of the hotel is very lovely and luxurious and the views from the restaurent and lounge outstanding, both very pleasant places to spend some time. The buffet breakfast include in our deal was very nice, but not exceptional. The wait staff were very good. The exterior of the hotel is a little shabby, and a notable point was the weeds growing outside our room window, detracting from the stunning views. Overall a very lovely place to stay and highly recommended.
- Louise (10/5): - It's rare to find a place to eat that has both a good view and high quality food. The hydro majestic has both. The rooms were clean tidy and offered great views. Rooms are small. The outside of the building looks like it could do with some maintenance, but inside was beautiful. Lots of construction on the road at the moment. They have electric car chargers which is great! Would help to mark the ground to make it clear for other guests with non-ev not to park there. Or take guests car and rego to ask them to move out of ev charger spot.

The furniture, the styling and the ambiance was spot on, but I would have loved some information to bring life to what was on offer. The creaky floors and old old drapes were full of character and charm... How long had they been there?

- Jeanette (8/5): - Beautiful hotel and gardens, lots of history and interest to see inside. Staff were fantastic, room was very clean, food in Belgavia Louge and Wintergarden was excellent. Only let down was the general maintenance around the property. I do understand and appreciate its a old building but we observed water leaking from window seals, large piece of torn plaster in public lounge area and several light globes in public area still out after a couple of days. Rooms are very clean, fantastic view of Megalong Valley (once mist disappeared) but quiet basic. No space in bathroom for toiletries, bedside lamps and main lights not bright enough to read with in evenings. A plastic chair at the desk.

- H7128FQkurtw (4/5): Wonderful Wedding - Regretful stay - If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to sleep inside a damp shoebox with a faint whiff of regret, book a room at the Hydro Majestic. I had the misfortune of staying here for two nights while attending a family wedding, and honestly, I should have just camped outside—it would have been fresher and less hazardous to my health. Let’s start with the room. Calling it “tiny” would be generous. A hamster with claustrophobia would have packed its bags and left. The musty stench hit me like a brick wall, and with no window to open (so much for that fresh mountain air), my only option was the air-con. Big mistake. By morning, I had a full-blown allergic reaction and an asthma attack that made me consider drafting my will. The bathroom? Oh, it was a horror show. Mould, glorious mould—caked in every crevice, haphazardly sprayed with cleaner, and left to drip down the walls like a modern art installation called “Health Code Violation.” My wife thought I was being dramatic (and perhaps just looking for an excuse to dodge the in-laws), so she convinced me to stay the second night. That, dear reader, was my biggest mistake. I left not just with a ruined weekend but with a respiratory infection that had me calling in sick for a week. Now, credit where it’s due: the lounge, bar, and reception hall were stunning. The history of the place is fascinating. But staying here? Absolute 💩 house. It’s like someone took a historic gem and decided to turn it into an overpriced, mildew-ridden coffin. Also, who thought plonking this eyesore in front of one of the most beautiful mountain views was a good idea? It’s like parking a dumpster in front of the Mona Lisa. Final verdict: would I ever stay here again? Only if the alternative was sleeping in a swamp—and even then, I’d have to think about it. Do yourself a favor: admire the Hydro Majestic from afar, grab a drink at the bar, then run far, far away when it’s time to sleep.
