Guest Reviews

- DORJI (1/5): So bad that we check out the same day - Location Everything else other than location was bad. It was completely different than pictures

- Isabel (4/5): Noisy stay and unclean communal areas - Good location, walking distance to Gion and other areas of interest We didn’t have a single good night here. Stayed 3 nights but we’re disturbed by noisy guests from different rooms every night. There are signs up saying no noise past 10pm and yet we were kept up until 3am with guests laughing, stomping up and down the corridor and slamming doors.
The walls are paper thin, so that doesn’t help, but it feels like there are no staff there that care or help. This place isn’t run by Japanese locals, but young foreign staff who don’t really care about it.
The halls and stairs are filthy, covered in dust, I don’t think they’ve been vacuumed or cleaned for a long time. Our room seemed clean but the bedding was old and I was given a tiny lumpy pillow.
We may have just been unlucky with the noise, but it’s clear that the staff here just don’t care to improve anything.
- Nadege (1/5): A fuir absolument !!!

- Klára (8/5): - I liked the easy self-checking and the neighbourhood, it was very central but calm in the same time. The kitchen was well equipped, we were lucky and had a respectful guests around us so it was very quiet. The tatami had dust and hair from previous guest, it wasn't vacuumed before our arrival and the room smelled a bit bad. If the cleaning level was better, I think it's great option for budget stay in Kyoto.
- CHIN HAO (7/5): -
- Allison (1/5): - Close to center of Kyoto Did not get a copy of the room keys, went to another hotel.
- Bee-Lai (1/5): - Nothing; customers complaints of bed bugs is enough to warrant my willingness to not take up this filthy lodging and be prepared to waste my four nights stay in this accommodation! This place should be condemned and not be allowed to be in business!

- LIDIA (9/5): Well located hostel - Comfortable beds
Top location from the old town and close distance from the public transport
The room was spacious (it fitted 3 futons). There was also an AC, but a bit loud.
Very silent during the night. Guests were respectful.
We had a laundry service 100 yen & 100 yen dryer
And bike rentals for 500 yen a day
The common areas were cool, it felt like a home with the nice stuff There was not desifectant for the toilets
- Gerda (7/5): Good as a base for exploring Kyoto - Small hotel located on a quiet street fairly close to the Gion tourist area. Traditional Japanese-style room. Cooking facilities available in shared kitchen. Staff not very approachable. There is an additional tourist tax to pay on check-in (200Y per person per night) that was not stated when booking.

- J P (6/5): - Our last stay at a hostel. This was probably my fault for expecting more. If all you need is a mat on the floor. This will work. As an older guy there was no place to sit or a table except in the common area and that was limited.
- Abraham (1/5): 3 night stay with bedbugs - Location; some friendly staff. Everything felt dirty. There is bed bugs. I got bites all over my arms back and legs. I used the communal space but that’s where I got bit. Bugs were also seen in 2 rooms.
- Jimmy (2/5): ⚠️🪳 Be careful — this place is not up to Japanese standards. - Location The bed wasn’t made, had several hairs that weren’t mine, and even bed bugs — I filmed everything as proof. When I told the manager, his only answer was “Ah, sorry. I can’t do anything for you.”
The entrance code didn’t work when I arrived around 1 a.m., and there were no clear instructions, no towels, and not even drinking water provided.
The bathroom took several minutes to get hot water. The place is managed entirely by foreigners, and the service clearly doesn’t reflect the usual care and cleanliness you expect in Japan.
For 56 €, it’s absolutely not worth it — there are far better and cheaper places in Kyoto.
- noa keiko (6/5): Ti fa sentire a casa!
- Georgios (7/5): -
- Alessia Margherita (8/5): -
- Juan Manuel (1/5): Not worth - Good location The bed and the pillow were the worst I ever tried. I sleep in trains, buses and even on the floor. But honestly the bed and pillow at this hotel are worse than sleeping over a rock
- Garcia (10/5): -
- EdsonGB (10/5): -

Ręczniki i pościele były średniej świeżości. Pokój mały ale pojemna szafa ratuje sytuację.
- Lucrecia (1/5): No volvería. Además mi cama no tenía colchón.
- Ting (7/5): - The facilities are basic, but the manager is very friendly and helpful.
- Galinou (7/5): -
- Annabella (8/5): - Everyone there was super friendly and we felt welcome the moment we came in. The other guests and manager were very nice
- Aleksander (9/5): -
- Gabriel (10/5): -
- Terry (8/5): -
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional - Conveniently located and nice staff
- Jared (1/5): Dumpy hostel, poor customer service. - Location and English speaking staff. Old, run down, not very clean, terribly thin pillows and mats, no food in rooms, tight shared commons, dated and broken toilet, dirty room upon arrival. I only stayed one of my four nights after our bad experience and they refused to refund my unused nights and my b.s. tourism tax that only they charged me on my two week trip. You can find way better options for the same price or less.
- Georgina (9/5): Affordable and comfortable stay in a good location, with private rooms - Location and the shared areas looked welcoming and were clean.
- Helena (8/5): Very good - Everyone working there was very nice. Free coffee and tea as well. Location was good, it is a very good deal in general.
- Jello (9/5): Superb -
- Andrea (10/5): Wonderful! - Great area to walk around in, close to good things. Clean, friendly. Nice room. A great place to stay.
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice hostel in a great location. Really friendly staff. Laundry facilities available but 100y for 30 minutes drying and it took about 4 goes to dry our clothes.
- Choo (7/5): Good -
- Arthur (7/5): Good - The owners were friendly and always ready to help The room was immensely small, but organized enough to sleep in
- Rafael (7/5): Good - It has an excelent location to go to the Kiyomizu-dera very early in the morning to avoid the crowds. The room has a decent size and there is people to receive you the most part of the day. They warned us the room had a smell when we got there and it was true, they said it was from a guest smoking but smelled more like vinegar. It never left, even if we left the windows opened. The place hasnt got the best quality for the price, but probably thats all places in Kyoto
- Ilda (10/5): - Super friendly staff, simple but good accommodations...awesomely hot water!
- Broskey (6/5): Pleasant -
- Imogen (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent value for money, we stayed in a room for 3 (not the dormitories) which was very clean. Communal showers, toilets and sinks however all were also very clean and the shower was stocked with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, you can also rent a towel for ¥100. Common area was quite lively at night, with free tea & coffee. Staff only spoke japanese however this was not an issue and was expected, we communicated with translate and everything was very straight forwards. Women’s only toilets were on the second floor which I thought was a nice add.
Would definitely stay again if I’m ever back in kyoto and would 100% recommend to anyone. Definitely one of the best Hostels I’ve stayed in.
Hostel is also a 3 min walk to a bus stop with regular busses to kyoto station and gion.
- Duy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carlos (10/5): Great place! Peacefully well located and awesome host - Peaceful Comfortable place. Everything close by
- Cat_travel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ren (9/5): Superb -
- Maxwell (7/5): Good -
- Ryan (5/5): Good for 1 night, not for a longer stay - The location of the property is great! So close to many of the popular shrines, temples and attractions. The place is good value for cost but I would only stay for 1 night or 2. We booked for 5 nights which we found too long of a stay to be comfortable at the property. There is no sound proofing between the rooms and we were kept up every night of our stay by other guests coming back from a night out or just walking around and chatting very late at night. The tatami mats were very worn out from use and were extremely thin in the middle so we were quite sore waking up each morning. The kitchen is very small and not fully equipped.
- Suzanne (10/5): Perfect cosy stay - The common space is warm and and pleasant for reading or chatting, with light and a nice decor, the kitchen is perfectly well equipped. The rooms are bright. Everything is very clean. The location is super nice, 5 minutes from Gion. And last but not least The manager Topher speaks a lot of languages and will always be ready to make your stay more pleasant and to help you. Everything is very clean.
- Luka (9/5): Superb - Great location near Gion and Kawaramachi. Comfortable and cozy hostel, the manager was very friendly and helpful!
- Name (5/5): Passable - stuffs here so nice frankly! Oops as for me myself i do not like the manager~ so serious even a little bit of lacking patience that i can not organize my language. When i was Osaka I can talk with US friends fluently ,however with the hotel orders managing he is responsible! About the other problem here perhaps WiFi, above all i will give 7 to this hotel ~
- Robert (8/5): Great place for the price, good location, and a warm atmosphere. - The man who runs the place is friendly and welcoming, location is decently close to some great tourist spots like 清水寺 and 八坂神社. Some buses run quite close as well making transport easy. Rooms are good for the price too. Never had a problem with the place, check in times being later than what I'm used to made scheduling a little bit harder though.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caulfield (10/5): i would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in kyoto, everything abt the place was great. - our room was massive for a very low price and the location is great with transport and popular attractions within walking distance. the owner was very nice and the place was very clean. nothing to complain about, everything was great
- Uta (9/5): Superb -
- Hapi0711 (9/5): Peace House brings you a peace of mind - The owner is incredibly welcoming and friendly, highly appreciate his calm and interesting character, always open for a talk/discussion.
It was my first experience to sleep on a tradition futon and I liked it. Bear in mind that it's not the softest matress but that's what makes it more healthy for the back.
The house is located not too far from the city center, attractions/palaces can easily be accessed by nearby bus stations.
Shared bathrooms were always clean.
The area is super calm, no noise from outside.
I could wash my laundry for only 100 yen If you have heavy luggage, keep in mind that there is no elevator.
Walls can be kinda thin, however, I have experienced no major disturbance from neighbors.
- Henry (6/5): Pleasant - Nice rooms, good price. The internet was awful, would just drop out randomly. Also the light sensor in the bathroom was broken so it would either not turn on or flicker on and off constantly.
- Linda (10/5): Loved my stay here. Very comfortable, friendly reception and well managed, great location. - Very cozy and comfortable. Good location Nothing
- Kseniia (8/5): In the middle of Kyoto - Very friendly owner of the place
Perfect location Room is small for three people
