Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was horrible. Nothing was as advertised. Unclean, an uncaring staff. The windows didn't lock. the room was up 3 flights of stairs so dark you couldn't see during the day. And they kept turning the lights off. no breakfast unless you get up at 5 am
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Nothing was as advertised. No shuttle. No breakfast most days. Windows didn’t lock. No cleaning. Bathroom stunk. 3 flights of stairs to our room. 4 flights to dining room. No help with bags. About a half mile uphill walk. Everything on Expedia was a lie.
- Vanessa (8/5): - Two night stay while we were getting ready to see Machu Picchu and then coming back from there. COmfoy and easy walk from the train station and then to the bus stop for the ride to Machu Picchu. It is very damp in the jungle, so it was difficult to dry our clothes and towels in the bathrooms, the breakfast was ok only. But this hotel served it's purpose certainly and they responded when we needed something and tried to help us fix any problems we had. I would recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean and modern for such a remote location. Rooms were updated and the hotel is close to everything.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Help Yourself Atmosphere - This property was clean and had a "help yourself" kind of atmosphere. Staff was friendly but did not speak much English and we did not speak much Spanish. It was a different place but the price was right and you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I went as far as the reception desk and left. My message to the property hours prior to arrival was unanswered. The location and condition of the property were poor. Choose other options.
- John (4/5): Noisy, noisy, noisy! - This is an inexpensive option among several in Machu Picchu. However, the nicely tiled hallways and stairs are perfect for reflecting noise all over the place. Plus, checkout is at 9:00, and the hardworking staff gets going at about 4:15, turning on hall lights, which shine right into the rooms. If you need a very early wake-up, this your spot. The staff is very good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Adequate for hikers - Hotel was a bit dirty and damp in the room but was sufficient accommodations for our group of hikers.
A janela do banheiro dava pra janela do quarto do vizinho.
- mindy (2/5): No airport shuttle - There's no airport shuttle as stated on Expedia. When I called immediately after to plan with the hotel and they advised me there is no airport shuttle, I advised I will have to cancel. They said to give them a few hours to talk to Expedia and confirm site states there is an airport shuttle and that they will refund me. Then they refuse to pick up calls or respond to my emails,m. I even provided them screen shots of the site stating they had an airport shuttle. They declined my refund and made up to Expedia that I waited a prolonged period of time for a refund and kept my money. Shady people
- Rafael (6/5): - Atendimento e estrutura boa (prédio novo), porém as condições deixam a desejar.
- Juan Albuja (2/5): The Bathroom is Horrible - The room is ok but what really dissapointed me to was that the bathroom is horrible, old, a lot of humidity and the worst thing is that the shower don't have curtain and all the water goes out and fill all the bathroom with water. I will never recommend this hotel.
- Joseph (8/5): Very Good - Breakfast was very good
- Anthony (10/5): Comfy last minute stay. - This was a last minute reservation. The staff was very accommodating. Very comfortable accommodations. Breakfast was generous!
- JOSE MIGUEL (10/5): - Thanks a lot
- Lisannew (2/5): Terrible hotel. - Terrible hotel. No insulation. You can hear everything that is happening in other rooms, people talking, showering, using the toilet. Booked a room with a double bed and ended up in a room with 2 single beds.
- Josue (8/5): nice hotel very nice in deed Manager Marco ozone - staff was great, the place is amazing and friendly
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very cute hotel and very clean. - This Hotel reflects the local people very much. It is a ways away from the train station and a considerable walk up. However the rooms are well-maintained and the people are very accommodating. My only problem is there's no heat in these rooms so you have to get a space heater from the front desk and also there's a bit of humidity in the rooms that improves after the rainy season. It is a short walk from the thermal pool. Overall a very simple place for a great price. Limited English speaking TV and the hotel staff speaks Spanish only.
- Verified traveler (10/5): clean and comfortable - Good place to stay for a night or two in order to see Machu Picchu. Nothing stands out about the hotel but it was a comfortable, quiet and clean place to stay with hot water. It was pretty hard to find using our map app (maps.me and google maps). We had to wander around a little to find it. Breakfast was delicious and available super early for those going to see the ruins. Coco leaf tea was available (free) 24/7. Wifi was terrible.
- arch (2/5): Hotel that meets the basic needs - The hotel is located very far from the machu pichu bus and train stations. I would also start by calling this more of a hostel than a hotel. There isn't much help around and the rooms have windows peering directly into the stairwell. However the biggest flaw about this hotel is its bathrooms. The shower drain doesn't work well and the water seeps into the bathroom constantly making the bathroom and the rest of the room wet at Amy point. Additionally would not recommend this place to anyone who has allergies. One of us is sensitive to dust mites and came down with horrible allergies after staying at Marco wasi. Ultimately I would rate the place as manageable but if you find another place for the same price would highly recommend you go there instead of Marco wasi.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent option in Aguas Calientes - The room was fine in general, and probably pretty good for Aquas Calientes. The lower floors seem to be hostel-style rooms, while the top floors have hotel style rooms with private bath.
If this hotel was in a city, I would've been disappointed with the small bathroom and outdated furnishings. But considering it's in the cool little town of Aguas Calientes, I'd say it's a good option.
Also, the hotel is a bit off the main road, which took me a few laps to find. You have to go down one of the alleys and then up some stairs to get to Marco Was.
- Dee (10/5): Little uphill hike but overall great location - breakfast was great, room view great, location great, staff friendly, hot showers worked!
- Andres (4/5): Dark, damp, and drab, barely good for 1 night - If you just need a place to crash for a few hours, then this hotel is probably OK. If you're staying longer than that, then you should go elsewhere. The place is damp, dark, and drab. It was so damp our passports were all curled up after less than one day! They regained their normal shape once we were gone. This place is truly unwelcoming. I want to clarify that I'm not referring to the staff, but to the place itself. The staff was actually quite friendly, helpful and engaging. Too bad they have to work here.
I recommend this hotel for service, clean, breakfast. Ms. Majra is kind and gave good advice!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent room - Had a nice view across the town, if you can call the town "nice". Steep walk to the hotel since it's at the far top of the town, and then was another bunch of stairs to the 5th floor. But the room was decent, nothing against the hotel except inconvenient location of the room.
- hehyoung (2/5): - I booked two nights for this hotel and paid in full in advance! However, while I was in Cusco, all the rails were not operating due to strike, therefore no one could get up to the Macchu Picchu! Hotel owner knew that the problem but didn't issue any refund clearly knowing that It was not my fault at all!! Bad business practice! I lost two nights up there due to the strike they had!
- Tarak (4/5): slippery bathroom even though it looked cleaned - The bathroom was so slippery that i just stood on one location after i started showering. I was afraid that i moved, i would slip on the floor and hurt myself. It was a terrible experience. Also, the sleeping bed was uncomfortable. My wife and i couldnt sleep properly whole night . The room size was very small too. Overall, it was a bad experience.
- Harvey (8/5): Good value. - Inexpensive hotel in Aguas Calientes, clean room, pleasant and helpful staff, minimal but adequate breakfast, walk up (no elevator).
- Lori (8/5): nice hostel close to everything - Note it is a hostel not a hotel which was not clear in the Expedia Ad until you read the finer details although we should have known based on price. Clean simple rooms and very friendly staff. We requested someone meet us as the train station and they responded quickly to my email and were there waiting with a sign with our names on it. It would have been difficult to find on our own. We were happy with our room as it had a window that opened to outside BUT there are several rooms where the windows open up to the hallway/stairway- we would not have been happy with that.
- caminar (8/5): Tranquilo.. - Cool place.. Nothing Fancy. Nice little breakfast. Enjoyed my time there. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. There is construction going on in the area so don't be surprised if it noisy.
- Carolyn (8/5): good choice for MachuPicchu overnight - We spent one night here, arriving at 9pm and leaving at 5 am to catch the bus to Machupicchu. They provided a nice breakfast buffet at 4:30 am (scrambled eggs, meat, cheese, tea, coffee, bananas). Shampoo & soap are provided, and there was plenty of hot water (we had to wait for it - and it's out of the RH faucet, not the left!). We also requested someone meet us at the train station, and I was glad we had. I'm not sure we could have found the tucked away location on our own! Our guide also took us to the ticket office to buy our tickets for the next day - we made it just before they closed at 9pm. Our only caution - the windows in the hotel face inward (towards the interior/courtyard of the building), and we didn't realize they were open. We left our room for breakfast and left our gear (passports etc.) in the room! Someone could easily have gotten in. Luckily, that didn't happen. The staff did not speak English, but that really didn't make any difference to our check in procedure.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel away from the noise - nice and clean. Small but the staff is pleasant and you feel safe. Easy to access the bus for Machu Picchu
- kevin (4/5): I try to love it , but it fail completely - I booked 2 rooms and stayed with my family . I read the reviews and tried to give this hotel a shoot but it was a big FAIL . After a long day at Machu Picchu I head it back To check in to the hotel it rain very hard that afternoon and me and my family were very wet and tired . My Guide from Machu Picchu had to showed me were the hotel was located because it's very tuck away from all other hotels , there were no signs at all anywhere of this hotel and you have to go trough some ally's to get to it .( very bad location) when we got there the girl at the front desk was very rude .. The first thing she said was , you can not leave any luggage for store here. I was what?? Who ask you ? I think this was very rude . They need more training for the staff or change it . Wifi was bad. I ask the same girl if she had a recommendation on a good restaurant , she replay with ,I don't have directory and she does not know . Ok, going on , the bed smell like mildew . We stayed in the 3rd floor and it was very noise from people talking and walking up stairs and down stairs , we could also here people talking in the bathrooms . The breakfast in the morning was good . I wouldn't have mind the bad smell on the beds , the noise , the bad wifi, the bad location , but what made it worse was the terrible staff! Very Rudy and unfriendly . I would not recommend this hotel at all .I stayed there on August 17 .
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent service - The hotel staff went out of their way to help us out of a very difficult situation which otherwise would have been a nightmare to resolve and for that we were and are still are very thankful
- Susan (4/5): Damp and smelled bad. - We were not comfortable in the room. There is no ventilation system. In the day it was hot and sticky, at night cold and damp. The wall next to the hallway is a large window that if you left open anyone could stick there hand inside and touch you in bed. The only other window was between ours and the neighbors bathroom. We closed that one as well. All night if anyone went in the hallway the bright light shown through the thin curtain covering the glass wall, and everytime the room next to ours flipped on their bathroom light ours lit up as well. The location is quite a trek from the train station and all uphill. They meet you at the station so that you can follow them to the hotel, but you have to carry your bags. Also our room was just above the reception desk and so everytime the phone rang we heard it. With no outside windows my daughters called it the dungeon. We overslept the breakfast because we thought it was still nighttime.
- Amy (10/5): Great hotel in perfect quiet location - Marco Wasi was the perfect hotel for my solo travels to Machu Picchu. The staff and owner were extremely friendly and helpful with any questions or requests I had and always had a smile on their faces.
The room was clean and comfortable and refreshed every day.
Would stay there again.
- Bert (10/5): Nice Hotel with great views - Erica and her staff offers a great service and good breakfast at 4:30 in the morning
- Paul (10/5): Marco Wasi review - A bit off the beaten path in Aguas Calientes, but the service here was very good. They also had better prices on water and other drinks than the inflated Aguas Calientes prices. Very helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great staff, super helpful on our trip - They were super nice and helpful. Tried to tip and they refused! Would stay here again
- PC (6/5): Long uphill walk! - It's a long, uphill walk at altitude is rough. Up more stairs to off main drag location. Staff is very cordial, pleasant, and helpful. Lobby and room clean. Breakfast good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stay - Erika at the desk was so kind and had a very positive attitude. Room was on the 5 th floor with a nice view so we got our exercise. Long walk up the hill. Breakfast was O K.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good for a short stay. It has no elevator so if you are not in shape climbing up and down could be a workout. The wi-fi did nog work at 5th floor
- Verified traveler (4/5): Instead of windows, we get two vertical shafts - Our room had two vertical shafts running through and open not only to our room, but others above and below. That means we heard other people snore, flush toilets, pee (you name it) as though it were in our room. We had no windows. The floors were sticky and we wore shoes while in the room. The only saving grace was that the people there were helpful and friendly, but that's not enough for this place.
- macdeddy (10/5): close to restaurants - great and friendly staff, speed of the wifi, cable
- Danielle (8/5): Good hotel - further away from the noisy main road - One night stay - but Marco was great and held our luggage for us while we hiked Manchu Pichhu!
- Tessa (10/5): Great place - Great place to stay in aguas calientes far enough away from the noise of the train coming in and out of town but close to everything else, ne'er the bus stop for Machu Picchu and good location. Great breakfast buffet that starts early enough to catch the first bus up! Great place great staff loved it!
- Brian (6/5): - Marco is amazing at service. Clean and welcoming hotel. Only problem was bathroom had a smell that wouldn't go away
- Dave (8/5): Lovely quaint hotel high above town with views - Stayed two nights, enjoyed all my interactions with Marco, the owner. Love the place; on a quiet street high above town, with soaring views if you get a window room on an upper floor. Marco is a wonderful help in everything from restaurant recommendations to transportation issues, and speaks fairly good English to boot if needed. Breakfast was typical of such sized hotels, with a spread of cold and hot fare, some of which can be pocketed for lunch.
- Philip (8/5): nice new clean hotel in a dump town - Itsa good hotel by peruean standards, especially compared to the average dump in ramshacle Agua Calientes. Good hot shower and decent breakfast. Big flat screen TV, but only a couple of english channels like everywhere in Peru. Major problem with reservation. Booked confirmed and paid for, but when I arrived ifound out it was full. They found me somewhere else for the first night then let me stay the next night instead of the one I booked, lucky I one booked one night. Gave me a free upgrade on roon also. Im not sure if the reservation problem is the hotel or expedia. Realatively quite location and not far to walk to the bus and train etc. Overall a very good place providing the booking works.
- Damian (8/5): Value for money - Very enjoyable stay. Perfect for our stay as it was central and great value for price. The hotel stay were great - even came to the station and helped carry our luggage back to the hotel.
- Suzanne (8/5): Nice hotel with great views at breakfast - Lovely staff, very helpful. The breakfast buffet offered a good choice. Lovely hot shower. The views at breakfast on the 4th floor were simply stunning!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - there was a disapointing condition of the bed dress. It was dirty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel close to restaurants - The hotel is very close to the Main Street in Aguas Calientes. Although the views are not great (if you have any- since some rooms did not have windows) the staff was very accommodating and friendly. The rooms were small and clean. We had some issues with hot water- you have to let the water run for a long time o get hot water. The girls at the reception were always attentive to any request we had and suggested great places to eat and have a massage after the 4 days of hike to Machu Picchu.
Since the hotel is off the Main street, it is a quiet. We felt safe walking around the area.
- Valerie (10/5): Everything I wanted for 5 days at Machu Picchu - Excellent
- Joe (6/5): Friendly place - Off season OK place to prepare for the climb up the mountain
- Verified traveler (4/5): too tired to care - The hotel was moist and smelled of mold. It is at the top of a lot of stairs.
- Claudius (8/5): Nice to stay at after the Inca Trail - Very kind and helpful staff. It is close to the main street but in a recessed spot that made it quiet. Five min walk to the restos and to the bus stop to go up to Machu Picchu, not to mention that artisans' market.
Strongly recommended for budget minded travelers.
- Seven (8/5): Quite and clean hostal away from the noise - Located far away from the crowd and noisy. A bit far but actually AC is a very small town. Close to the entrance of hot spring
- Chao (10/5): Great hotel in a quiet area - Great hotel with very hard-working and friendly staff. The rooms are small but very comfortable and overlook Aguas Calientes. It is a bit of a pain to get to because it is near the top of the hill and can be difficult to find, but if you're only climbing up and down once or twice a day, it's not a huge deal. The only gripe I had with the hotel was that the bathroom floor was very slippery, especially when wet. Otherwise, everything was perfect.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Up the hill - As everyone comes by train and there is a weight restriction on bags I guess most Marco guests make it to the top. Though you have to ask a few times as nobody on the main drag knows where it is.
The rooms resonate to the sound of people on the staircase and the noise starts at 430 when breakfast begins
- Bret (10/5): Clean, new, but a little far from city center - New paint, trim, floors, tiling. Comfortable, REALLY nice staff and they did something very special!
There was some error in the booking, whether with my pc, hotels.com, or what I do not know but my room was booked 10 days before I arrived. Any other hotel would have been like, `sorry but you will have to pay again´.
They let me have a room anyway! Absolutely blown away
- Travis (10/5): Great Hotel! - Exceeded every expectation!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Adequate - The hotel and staff were great. Very clean and staff were helpfull with perfect English spoken. The rooms wern't the most comfortable, of course I'm staying at the Hilton in Lima, hard to compare to this 5 star hotel. My only concern was the unlighten stairs that were steep. The surrounding were a little third world, but that goes for the entire town. I would recommend staying there if you want to stay in Machuu Pichuu. Cusco I would imagine has better facilities( a Hilton being built as I type) but thats a two hour cab, then a two hour train ride. Don't pay the extra money for the Bisatdome Train, Expidition is just as nice.
- Chris (6/5): - The price is good for this expensive little town. I liked that it is a block off the main busy street and the staff was good. The breakfast room is on the top floor in a room that echoes with no carpet to quiet skooching chairs. Since Machu Picchu gets going so early and many guest leave at 5AM, the ruckus of the breakfast pretty much wakes up people on the 3 floor (where we were). If they found a way to make that quieter, this place would be much better. Also, this town is in the jungle where it happens to rain a ton. And there are no hooks at all to hang anything in the room to let your coat dry. I've never been a hotel without a single hook or hanger before. The shower kicked butt though.
- Linda (8/5): Clean & quiet - Although it is only 5-6 "blocks" from the train station, several "blocks" from the MP bus stop, and a couple of short "blocks" and a few steep steps from the multitude of restaurants and gift shops, you leave the "tourist world" and enter the world where some of the locals live. Much less bustle and noise with "real people" including school kids. The hotel was neat, tidy, and very clean with comfortable, firm beds and thick, warm blankets. The staff was very pleasant.
