- Martinez (8/5): - The Hotel has a lot of history and the room still shows that with furniture and ornaments. They have a Tavern with a good menu but they do not offer breakfast but there are options for coffee pretty close to the Hotel.
- Bonnie (4/5): Very disappointed and uncomfortable. - Location and staying in an historic hotel. There was no breakfast offered, which was one of the reasons I chose this hotel. There were no amenities such as perhaps coffee in the lobby. No television. Construction going on. Chipped paint and wall paper. Love these old hotels, but this was a bit too authentic, felt and smelled old but not in the way we hoped.

One of the tradeoffs when staying at a historic old hotel and no fault of the staff or owners.

For the price paid for our stay, breakfast was meager and disappointing with sliced oranges and grapefruit, white bread, peanut butter, jelly and cereal. It was the worst breakfast offering on our six-day trip in Colorado.

If you go the the diner DON’T CROSS THE RED LINE ON THE FLOUR!!!
- Monica (7/5): Saint Elmo has an interesting history and adequate accommodations. - The hotel has historical significance in the town Ouray, Colorado. It is well located and has a very good restaurant and bar in the lower level of the hotel. The furniture in the room was a mix of 1900 and 1800 style and the room was very comfortable. There is no elevator in the hotel. We had an electric powered cooler that we needed to keep with us. Thankfully, we are able-bodied and could carry everything we needed up the stairs to our room. We had read reviews that included raving about the breakfast. However, there is no longer a cooked breakfast included with the room right. Rather, it was a very simple “continental“ breakfast. For a hearty breakfast, there are many restaurants nearby that serve such.
- William (8/5): - Cool 19th century hotel, right in the middle of town. Walk everywhere. The only complaint I had was the beds. They sag in the middle, which isn't a problem if you're alone. They should probably be platform beds. The hotel was retrofitted with en suite bathrooms, obviously. But everything works! Parking on the street right out front was no problem. Very secure and really pretty.

- Vicky (6/5): - Check-in was smooth. The restaurant was closed the first two days of our visit which was part of why we booked there. The breakfast in "bed and breakfast" was a very scaled down continental breakfast - one type of danish, coffee, tea, fruit, dry cereal. Duration was 1 hour. One morning, the staff was not there on time and a line of guests outside the door had formed. The coffee hadn't been emptied from the night before and no food was out. When staff arrived, they started the coffee which overflowed because they hadn't emptied the pot first. I think the owners should consider a better breakfast option or change their claim that it's a bed and breakfast hotel. Also, if you book, don't ask for Room 10, it is front and center of the lobby, right inside the front door to the hotel - so lots of noise until late at night when other guests return to their room, and early as folks check out. What was amazing was the en suite sauna/steam bath and shower, and comfortable bed/bedding. Front desk staff were also courteous and helpful.

- Christine (6/5): - It is difficult to give stars to an inconsistent experience. The woman who made the breakfast and cleaned the rooms was very nice and customer focused. This hotel needs some attention in the sense that your average traveler expects more. Things that need attention are: making sure that there is coffee before 8:00 and assuring that the coffee in the breakfast room has been delivered. The gal making the breakfast could only apologize that the supplies were not delivered. I happened to wander around the main floor at 7:30 and discovered a Keurig in a back room by the ice machine. The back room needed attention. The breakfast each morning was a warm sweet pastry, white toast, and cold cereal. I heard several patrons ask about eggs and other typical breakfast offerings. This is a problem for travelers paying the price to stay here. Room # 7 had 2 queen beds which we needed and were adequate. The bathroom, had a shower that was so tight and there was not a shelf to place shampoo etc., except the floor. I talked to one of the new mgmt. team and expressed my observations. While it is an old hotel with lots of charm it is in need of some upgrading. My conversation with the mgmt. team person was cordial and he let me know of some of the minor upgrades they were thinking about. I believe that you can keep the ambiance of a historic hotel with more welcoming upgrades.

Loved our historic room, which had a lovely historic decor yet was very comfortable. Lovely breakfast. The owner checked us in and helped carry our luggage to our room. Walking distance to restaurants and shops, and we even walked to the Ouray hot springs pools. Accidentally left a shirt on the property, and they will be mailing it to me (I will be paying the postage, but appreciate that they will do that for me). All in all a good experience.

We left after the first night and just ate the additional payment for a second night because we just di - I like the fact that the woman at the front desk when we came in was willing to take our baggage upstairs for us because Jeff, whom I had talked to long before we came there, had told me that there were only a few steps to get up to the second floor (more like 20 steps) so having been lied to and with both of us being disabled, we were not happy. And then we were offered a first floor room for $100 a night more while you’re the people who lied to us and said that there were only a few steps. And then when we went to the restaurant downstairs, the chef acted like we were annoying him, and then the next day they were closed for two days, front desk and the hotel. This hotel blows. All of the above

If the usual pastries had been present, I would have been fine, but the yogurt parfait and fruit was not something I can stomach in the morning. Found an affordable option at Cassidy’s, 2 doors down. St. Elmo’s did have coffee available.

Had to go down the hall to a Kurig machine to make each cup of coffee. Only some granola, yogurt, danish pastry and sliced oranges to eat. No toast, jam, or other options. The room was lovely but the staff had neglected to provide cups or shampoo. Only body wash and conditioner.
- Helen (7/5): Good location, needs a little more love - Beautiful old house well located on the Main Street with good parking right out front. Spacious room with lovely original features. Easy to walk out to taverns for dinner and coffee shops for breakfast. The house needs a little tlc. Some aspects are a little shabby and the bathroom in the room we stayed in (5) had been squeezed in so was very small, with basins separately in the bedroom. The main reason for the low score from us though is that the booking included breakfast and the person we spoke to on arrival (by phone) confirmed there was a continental breakfast available. In the morning though, no staff were present and there was no breakfast available in the dining room - and it was 8am, so it wasn't us being up super early. We chatted to a lovely guy outside as we loaded our bags into the car who said he was the chef but no idea what he was cooking, it certainly wasn't breakfast! The room wasn't cheap for one night, and the fact it included breakfast was one reason for choosing this hotel, so this was disappointing.

- Mark (10/5): - My wife and I loved the entire St. Elmo experience, both the hotel and restaurant/bar. It's an historic gem of a hotel, lovingly restored and cared for. David is an exceptional host. Very, very comfortable with just enough "modern" updates so as to not distract from the fantastic step back in time. The restaurant food, and service, is also excellent. For the budget conscious like my wife and I, our stay at St. Elmo was a real splurge, but we do not regret it and will always remember it fondly. We have absolutely no dislikes. But, if you have issues physically climbing stairs you might have to pass. All rooms are on the second floor with only staircase access. FYI - We do not have any physical issues but our host David still insisted with helping us with our luggage. Very nice!

- Gonzales (8/5): Very good - Staff was nice and had a great restaurant and bar associated with hotel. Hotel from the 1800's. Room also included breakfast. It was nice except no AC or no TV in room!
- Chet (6/5): - Antique furnishings were good. Especially light nfixture M No air-conditioning was a huge disappointment. Way uncomfortable at 90+ degrees

Had Keurig Coffee Maker in room - no coffee pods, only two mugs (room sleeps 6 and they knew there were 5 of us). No sugar. End of hall community coffee maker - very few coffee pods. No cups. The private patio was fantastic. Loved it, we had a very enjoyable evening. The breakfast was wonderful. The lady making the breakfast was very accomodating.
- William (10/5): St. Elmo Hotel - charming! - This historic hotel is under new ownership so, as nice as it is now, pretty soon it’ll be even better. Check in was easy and we received a free drink at the bar of Bon Ton, the hotel’s restaurant. Decor is charming. Courtesy breakfast was great-fluffy pancakes and eggs to order in the breakfast room. Nice experience all ‘round! Bar área and restaurant will be better soon! Stairs, but There’s no elevator.
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - The new owners of the property are exceptional people. They did everything to make our stay a wonderful experience in a historic hotel. The room and furnishings were historically correct. We will stay there again. It is a small and intimate property.

- Jessie (1/5): Shit show - Nothing. It doesn’t look anything like the pictures. It’s dank and dirty. I booked over a year ago and the place changed owners 2 days before we go here. I didn’t get the room I originally booked. No one was ever at the desk for 2 days. The. The owner showed up and she talked all the damn time. You could not get any rest in room 10 because she was so damn loud. My 23 year old daughter used the toilet in her room and it clogged up. My daughter dryer up the overflow and said it stopped with in a min. We left for the day and came back and they accused us of damages. The toilet obviously had an issue already and the new owners just don’t know all the problems of this 100+ year old hotel. I am a business owner of 18 years and I have never treated my customers like this. We have been all over the country and out of the country and never had this horrible of an experience. I am mortified and disappointed/disgusted by the owners. There is only one room with an air conditioner and tv. That was our room. The tv did not work and the owner said he would fix it after he went to the grocery store. He never came to fix it. Our room ran out of toilet paper and my husband had to go find some! The room is super dusty. I had booked 2 rooms. One for me and my husband and the other for my adult girls. The owners cut the toilet to their room off and so I had to cram the girls in our room. If they stopped up the toilet and the owner unclogged it, then why did they cut it off. BECAUSE IT OBVIOUSLY HAS A LEAK!!!! I hate this place. Hate it hate it. Do not stay here. Stay ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!! It was supposed to be a vacation. Now I have to wake up and call my attorney and I had to cut off my credit card because I do not trust these people!!!

- Gp (7/5): Customer Care Lacking - Nice shower, satisfactory room, complimentary coffee machine Install black-out blinds - the room had 4 windows fitted with thin paper blinds. Breakfast is only served 8-9am. Most hotels serve from 6.30/7am Poor customer service: we had to leave before 8am due to road closures. Hotel did not offer to pack us some fruit/ pastries from the complimentary breakfast. Instead, they just told us to try the local deli!
- Diane (10/5): - Comfortable stay in this historic hotel. Friendly greeting upon arrival & we were shown around the ground floor - lounge, breakfast room, parking etc. Room was clean and spacious. Freshly cooked breakfast in the morning was delicious and more than adequate for the day ahead. We were aware there is no lift, so packed a small overnight bag accordingly.

- Karen (9/5): Superb - Beautiful old hotel decorated very nicely to match the era of the early 1900's. The lobby was gorgeous with lots of stained glass accents. There are only 11 rooms so it's cozy. Our room was very comfortable with windows that actually open. It was like staying with family more than staying in a modern motel. Loved it.

- Denise (7/5): Good - This hotel was beautiful and old timey, and lovely to stay in. And the breakfast was delicious. But because it was three floors, and you entered the lobby on the second floor, you had to go down a set of rickety metal stairs to get to your car where you parked behind the building. This is because in Ouray, Colorado, you are not allowed to park on the street at night. For me it was very precarous, going up and down those stairs with my bad back and trying to get my service dog up and down them. I walked to town for dinner around 5 PM with my service dog, and we got back about 6 PM, and the front door of the hotel was locked. So we had to go around back and I had to carry my dog up the metal stairs because of the holes in the metal, because he was scared. Then in the morning, l unlocked the front door to take him out to the bathroom around 7 AM, and when I came back, it was locked again, so I had to go around the block to the back of the hotel and do the same thing all over again. I think this is a charming hotel for maybe younger people who don't have physical disabilities. But it was too much for me with my physical struggles. Maybe the solution would be to put a door handle with a four digit code on the front door like they had on the back door, or some kind of lobby entrance key for the patrons.

Room was furthest from street, so presumed to be at end of hot water line. Instantaneous HW heater would reduce water use.
- Tricia (10/5): - We usually travel to Ouray after Christmas each year, first time staying at St Elmo hotel, we absolutely loved it!! It’s a beautiful antique/vintage style hotel, lots of history! The housekeeper was super friendly & the rooms very clean. They have free breakfast each morning with eggs, homemade grits, pancakes, the works!!! It was so good, served fresh by their amazing cook!! We will definitely stay here next Christmas!!

The woman who cleans and cooks was so friendly barely saw anybody else.The breakfast was really good. I love historical hotels, and this one was very comfortable, and I liked it a lot.
