Guest Reviews
- Heidi (6/5): Helpful staff but small room - The room was clean and the staff were helpful. The room and en-suite were quite cramped.
- Anthony (8/5): Very good -
- Joshi (2/5): Very poor -
- Melora (6/5): Disappointed, but hope they will improve - The location provides easy bus transportation into central London. There was a great bread store around the corner called Bread by Bike which also has a nice little cafe. The owner of the hotel changed between our reservation and our arrival. The new owners seem to be going through a lot of growing pains and did not get specific room requests made by me to the prior owner. That ended up with us having to change rooms during our stay..
I hope that the new owners get their act together over time since the hotel is in a very convenient location for us to visit family.
If you have no mobility issues, note that there is no elevator. There is a flight of steps from the outside to the reception. They have a few rooms on the reception level, but all other rooms require more steps.
- Steve (7/5): Good -
- Tamia (7/5): Good -
- Monique (5/5): Passable - Central location Ceilings were leaking, ants found in the bathroom and we were not provided bathroom towels until the 3rd day of the stay. Disappointed
- Jessica (4/5): Ok stay besides the problem with the system change. Wouldn’t recommend because of that. - Good location and air conditioning. They changed the system/owner so I prepaid my stay and when I arrived I had to pay again because of that. The costumer should not be affected by the change, let’s say I didn’t have how to pay twice the accomodation? I would have to be without a place to sleep? Very annoying.
- Glyn (8/5): Very good - Nice place, with AC too which was a bonus in the heatwave Noisy guests who couldn't get back into their room late at night, the doors slam a bit too so that noise also
- Amy (2/5): poor communication, charged twice, not very clean - We reserved with sonder and were told we'd be refunded when the booking was automatically transferred to the new operator, the chapter hotels. We never received a refund, so I was calling and emailing both sonder and chapters before our stay to try to get confirmation of our booking still being held- it was impossible to get hold of anyone at chapters by phone or email and when I eventually got through to sonder, they just said chapters were now in charge and couldn't help me. When we arrived at the property we were told we needed to pay again and that chapters couldn't help us with any refund since that was sonders issue
Back and forth with no help on either side, which means I was charged twice for two rooms. I remember the hotel being nice enough as sonder a few years ago, but there are less amenities and its faaar less clean as chapters. The staff were unhelpful and I would not recommend staying under the new management.
- Anonymous (6/5): Good location to the tube, but won’t be returning. - Comfy bed and convenient location for the underground. Lady that checked us in on the first day was very rude. We experienced an issue. This hotel has changed management. Supposedly, booking.com was meant to refund and recharge my partner’s card. This never happened, and the lady wouldn’t allow us to check in unless we paid upfront for the room again. Anyway, my partner attempted to explain to the lady our side of things. She kept talking over him, didn’t give him the chance to talk. Wasn’t very sympathetic towards our situation at all. Kept stating that it was an ongoing issue through the week with other travellers (surely the hotel should have foresaw this problem if it was a reoccurring one with booking.com guests and reached out to us beforehand to smooth out any details as we were caught completely unaware after many hours of travelling). The issue with the booking, I could get past, but how my partner was spoken to wasn’t very professional at all. Then, we had issues getting into our room. The code they gave us wouldn’t open the door. A phone call to higher management (I assume) by the receptionist later, and two codes later, we got in. This issue wasn’t with just us. Guests that were arriving at the same time as us, also couldn’t get into their rooms with the codes given to them.
We still haven’t received our refund and we were told this would be processed on July 15th.
The hotel description specified hanging space and an iron in the room. We didn’t. We had to ask for the iron and told we couldn’t have it as it was a fire hazard in our room - shouldn’t be on the room description then.
Shower door was very stiff to open from the inside of the shower cubicle. Partner was almost stuck, but we managed to get it open between the two of us. And black hairs in the shower on arrival. Neither of us have black hair.
Just a disappointing experience. Won’t be returning.
- Raphaelle (8/5): Very good -
- Sheila (1/5): Do not touch this company under any circumstances - The owners cancelled our booking and did not tell us. We only found out when we phoned for access codes on the morning of our stay. They were not apologetic at all and tried to suggest I had cancelled or that it was Booking.com’s fault. All lies. Appalling and despicable way to treat customers. All the extra paperwork they demanded in advance and then to not honour the booking at the last minute. Leaving us stranded. They still have not refunded me.
- Samantha (5/5): Just ok nothing special. - Staff were very helpful and friendly. Bed was uncomfortable, shower very small
- Richard (7/5): A reasonable hotel, but a noisy area - Conveniently located for where I was working, and a good sized room with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. The shower was a bit of a "dribbler", and the area wasn't the most salubrious. A lot of road and local pub noise until very late.
- Emily (3/5): Poor communication - The property was good located Prior the trip I had paid £187, I then contacted the priest regarding my stay as I got an email regarding the change of company- they CONFIRMED my stay would be honoured, I then turned up to the hotel on the weekend of our stay to be greeted to have to pay AGAIN- the receptionist says this has nothing to do with them I have to contact booking.com and fight for a refund but will have to pay again to stay that night- which I did pay as I had an event that night and had no other place to stay.
I still have no received a refund as the old company had said I would to me & booking.com. Overall very POOR communication.
The room we stayed in we could hear all the traffic and all the other people staying in the corridor- overall a pretty poor stay.
- Dean (5/5): Ok hotel within reasonable walking distance of Camden but room for improvement. - Upon arrival we were advised that the Sonder hotel had been taken over and was now called the Chapter hotel. I had to pay again and was advised by the member of staff that I need to contact Booking.com to get a refund on the money taken upon booking. I have a medical condition and the members of staff did not accomodate me with this despite my requests.
- Susan (2/5): Was ok but had requested not to be in the basement & was still put in the basement. Shocking to have been charged fo - Staff lovely & helpful especially Ali Was woken up to a scratchy sound & turned on my phone to see a Rats tail running into the bathroom at 3.30am!!!
Was staying in the basement room.
- Ashleigh (1/5): SCAMMERS - AVOID!!! - I booked roughly 3 months in advance and paid before arrival. When I arrived to check in they would not allow me to do so unless I paid for a second time, despite acknowledging that I had already paid. I called booking.c to explain the issue, who also acknowledged that I had already paid, but still said there was nothing they could do and said I would just have to pay again if I wanted to stay. As it was 7pm and I had nowhere else to go I had no choice but to pay. It was a very stressful and upsetting experience. From speaking to the reception staff, it sounds like this was something they had done a number of times in recent months, and would likely continue. DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE.
- Jeremy (8/5): Very good -
- Ceri (6/5): Okay but some maintenance issues - The staff were very friendly and helpful. Some maintenance issues - broken toilet seat and shower attachment. Hard, lumpy and creaky bed.
- Alana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joal (7/5): Good -
- Zachary (5/5): Passable -
- Emma (6/5): Good outer suburbs place for a short stay in London. - Location is great, easily accessible to Camden Markets and tube stations. Was clean enough for what we needed. Our room had plenty of space which was great. Staff were quite friendly. We couldn’t use the AC because it kept making loud noises through the night. The room would get quite humid when showering, and the floor under the bed could use a clean. Pillows were a little lumpy and uncomfortable. But overall it was a decent stay.
- Stella (5/5): with the new owners it is not worth the money as the hospitality of sonder group is on much higher level. but they krpt - it was nicely designed by previous owners that I know from other destinations it was not clean here and there. they allow dogs and you could feel the unpleasant smell in the hallway because of the heat.
we were double charged even thou we payed in advance previous owner and haven't got the money back (yet)
and there was annoyance with the fire alarm in the morning and despite the sign "do not disturb" on the door, the cleaning crew nocked and wake us up - she can probably read so this was unacceptable. or entering the room as I told them upon arrival and another time not to do so.
and there was language barrier as I was not sure by talking to them that they really understand me - especially talking about the things that were not right.
- Cobi (8/5): Very comfortable night's stay - Great that during these really hot temperatures the room and reception had aircon! Friendly welcoming staff and a comfortable room that made best use of the small space (single room was ample for just me). Although there was a kettle in the room there were no tea bags, coffee etc.
- Carol (8/5): Nice property and great location for us.would return again - Location. Nice size room. Clean. Would have liked refrigerator to work and shower door to not stick. Reported to front desk but neither were fixed during our stay.
- Leyla (4/5): Disappointing -
- Anonymous (6/5): A hotel with great potential if they refresh the rooms, sort out of the broken and very noisy air con and train the staf - The building, the area The noisy air conditioning which kept us up all night. The officious male staff (the woman was lovely).
- Tanya (6/5): Pleasant - 1The staff were friendly and polite. The bathroom was nice and clean and seemed fairly newly renovated. The top window on my room didn’t lock or latch when I first arrived and it took a little persiading that something needed zo be done. However, it was fixed by the following afternoon and I arrived on a Sunday. As the new company had just taken over they might not have been aware of what needed fixing.
It was disappointing to find no desk or chair in the room. As stated in the blurb, there was an area where people could work with a laptop but I didn't want to advertise my laptop and had work to do on it. So the place isn't currently so suitable for those wishing to work in rooms, but the staff said that things will be updated soon. I would therefore check about this with the hotel before booking.
- Cristina (9/5): Great place with very helpful staff 24/7. - Location and friendliness of the staff. I liked everything.
- Chiara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelly (5/5): Passable -
- Anonymous (10/5): Staff where lovely and helpful - Location was great round the corner from family that live in London There was no fridge this time
- William (5/5): Passable - Location Room to small bed and pillows uncomfortable and room in basement
- Anonymous (5/5): Passable - The staff was nice. False alarm went off 3 times during our stay on 2 separate days and the bathroom was incredibly small. Like you can barely fit one person small.
- Elaine (5/5): Passable -
- Andrea (8/5): Less than ideal 4pm check in and problems with passcode entry made for a poor start. However, room itself was clean and - Room was clean, in a quiet part of hotel and had air conditioning. Bed was comfortable. Crisp clean bed linen and soft white towels.
Friendly and helpful staff. The late check in time (4pm). There was an option to check in an hour earlier if paid an extra fee which I was not willing to do as excessive cost for the sake of one hour.
The passcode option for door access instead of a key was problematic.
The initial passcode given did not work and it took numerous attempts and code changes by various staff members going to and from before I could gain access to my room. After my being up since 4am and exhausted from travelling in the excess heat I could’ve done without the added inconvenience.
- Wendy (4/5): Awful bed :( - Location was great. Staff were nice and helpful. Nice to have unique codes to get in/out. The bed was rock hard, impossible to sleep. The noise from upstairs (I don’t think it was a room) was loud and lasted all night. Shower was small but ok.
- Boian (8/5): Very good -
- Roger (7/5): Good location friendly staff - Location a short walk away from Camden staff were very friendly and helpful room was good with excellent air conditioning!
coded door so you don't need a key And soft close toilet seat !! Very steep stairs into the property TV you have to cast no terrestrial stations Shower controls did not respond to the temperature of the water The property is on a road junction so can be a little noisy at times
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional - Nice comfortable room, air con was a massive bonus. Bus connections made location really easy
- Caroline (7/5): Good -
- Huseyin (7/5): Good -
- John (6/5): Pleasant -
- Chris (9/5): simple entry, good instructions and clear and timely comms -
- Tianda (10/5): Would definitely recommend and would stay here again. - Clean, great location (about a 25-minute walk to Camden Market) & very friendly and helpful staff. The room could use a chair.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Johanna (9/5): I would absolutely come back! - Nice and helpfull people working there, clean and fresh rooms. Really enjoyd it. Read a couple of bad reviews before i got there but i do not agree with them. I found the place really good.
- Jane (7/5): Good -
- Murphy (7/5): Good -
- Gillian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Gillian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Amy (8/5): Clean, spacious room. Friendly staff. Good location. - Clean, modern and spacious room. Good location and friendly staff. Check in process was very simple There was no plug point close to the kettle but it was not too much of an issue
- Debbie (5/5): Convenient but disappointing - Close to key attractions and convenient for getting around. The hotel was clean, and in terms of cost, it offers decent value for money. There were several drawbacks, especially with the specific room I stayed in (Room 110). The room layout awkward and the bathroom was a tight squeeze. There was no WiFi connection in the room, which was quite frustrating.
Soundproofing was also a major issue — I could hear every footstep from the floor above, making it hard to relax or sleep peacefully. The pillows were very thin and offered little comfort. Additionally, the room had a damp feel to it, including the bedding, which remained cold and clammy despite keeping the windows open for ventilation.
Overall, while the hotel gets a few basics right, there are significant areas that need improvement, especially in-room comfort and sound insulation.
- Emanuela (7/5): A fairly priced hotel with no frills - The location of the hotel is pretty good, walking distance to Camden and its attractions. The room was clean and it had the essentials. The double room was extremely small and the bathroom was tiny. It looks better in pictures. I would say if you want to just sleep there and not spend anytime in your room then it’s perfect.
The staff weren’t too friendly.
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dino (10/5): Exceptional - Simple check in, very organized and clean. The wooden board floor on the room made a lot of noise
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - No breakfast
- Marie (9/5): Superb -
- Mays (7/5): Good -
- Lung (9/5): Superb - The staff is extremely nice
- Clementina (4/5): No worth it - Location The constant emails, log ins, app downloads, super long door codes.
no room cleaning for 5 days!!
- Patricia (9/5): Excellent stay - Convenient location, very clean and comfortable room. Facilities could have been better eg fridge was not cold enough.
- Nina (6/5): Clean room, in a quiet neighborhood but hotel very loud. - It was fine, 15/20 minute walk to tube stations, quiet neighborhood but hotel was very loud. We were in the basement and an outdoor metal staircase was right over our room and extremely noisy with people in and out. No drinking water available for the two days we were there as they had “run out”.
- Poppy (9/5): I would recommend staying here - Good, location , good value for money
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - The location was perfect for a visit to the Emirate’s stadium. A lovely modern, clean hotel.
- Maria (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (8/5): No complaints, the technology can be a bit of a pain for the in and outs but fortunately we did have a staff member at h - It was clean and comfortable, basic but functional. Fridge was off and only two tea bags bit stingy I thought. Take your own if like me you like your cup of tea in the mornings.
- Adam (8/5): Satisfied customers - It was a very nice hotel, clean, spare, functional, easy on the eye. Close to Camden, within reach of everything else, be it by bike or train or foot. The staff were helpful and friendly.
- Siobhan (8/5): Very clean and hospitable. Will definitly stay here again. - Very clean and location was excellent. The staff interactions were good. We were on the top floor and with no lift, this was a bit difficult. It was also very warm.
- Saif (9/5): Great short stay near London - The place is great value for money and for London is a spacious room with own bathroom which was perfect for us. Facilities were good. Overall location is good for public transport and close to central London. The shower is very tight but manageable. The room has all things you need but lock box was not working. The bed was soft which was annoying but comes down to preferences
- Caitlin (5/5): Clean but very little experience had - Nice location and easy access Lack of amenities. Small bathroom in height, little tea and coffee section. No staff around as they operate this way. paid for a bigger room but got given a roof room with no view. Also no lift and no one to help carry luggage
- Paul (10/5): Affordable accommodation for the area. - Easy to find, friendly staff, not to far from the tube station. Room was clean and quite spacious. Key code lock is a bit of a faff.
Property was situated on a very busy road, police and ambulances passing most of the night.
- Nicholas (8/5): Decent room for the price - The room was clean and tidy. Comfortable bed and decent facilities. The price was competitive and the staff were helpful. It was easy to get additional things like loo roll and coffee once we realised they were downstairs. There was no option to have fresh linen or the room cleaned during the stay. This would have been an issue if we had stayed longer. The room was a little cramped, with nowhere to sit other than the bed. The shower was very cramped, I hit my head several times (I'm only 5ft7 / 171cm), so if you were much taller it would really have been a pain. The location was ok for our needs, but a little in between, being 20mins or so walk from either Kentish Town or Camden Town. Good public transport though.
- Merve (7/5): Good -
- Isha (1/5): Bad -
- Charlee (8/5): Would stay again - It's really centrally located, the staff were great. Extremely clean. Clean and comfortable bed. Free filtered water everywhere. Nice little fridge. Temperature controls in the room are intuitive, and could open the window for fresh air. The single bed is a small single, and there was no desk - I had to take an online test on the floor. No lift, so if you have heavy things it's a bit of a nuisance. No daily cleaning service, and no way to request cleaning, so if you're there longer than a few days like I was, that can be a nuisance.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - Great, clean facilities and lovely, helpful staff. Process in-between booking the room on this website and arriving at the hotel was unnecessary, overly difficult and stressful.
- Becky (3/5): Poor - Really helpful staff at the actual hotel - less so online. Probably the worst pillows I’ve seen in a london hotel - all lumps. Impossible to get a VAT invoice.
- Janson (10/5): Exceptional - Room was so clean and everything from checking in and out was so easy! Staff were more than helpful as well. Storage lockers were also a big bonus when going out into London.
- Tariq (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (10/5): Just what I needed 👍🏻 - Check out this review of Sonder Camden Road on Tripadvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g186338-d21358352-r1009249392-Sonder_Camden_Road-London_England.html
- Pandit (10/5): Exceptional - I am really happy with Sonder and leaving a positive review of a content traveler. I was by myself as a young woman, and can definitely vouch for the place. It's extremely well connected and very safe. I felt at home here. Nice modern interiors and air conditioning. The staff is very helpful too. No elevators unfortunately, so if you have very heavy luggage and cannot do the lifting by yourself, I'd request a rain check and a rethink.
- Santiago (10/5): Great option and price quality is above London standards - Staff is awesome, always available and supportive. Nothing
- Gitai (8/5): Very good - very simple and clean room the acoustic isolation from the window isn't good.
- Brenda (8/5): Very good - Very cute, great location!
- Amber (10/5): Wouldn’t have wanted better - The property was a 20 minute walk from Camden market which was great for what we had planned! It was clean and super well kept and filled with the friendliest of staff
- Chris (7/5): Good functional accommodation - Clean, functional, well staffed Too many emails asking for online check in and proof of ID that wasn’t even necessary.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): Great location, good value for money, clean room which had all of the facilities that you need. - Excellent location as it’s just a 15 minute walk into Camden Town centre.
Quiet location overnight.
Clean room with plenty of hanging space for clothes.
Really good value for money. Nothing.
- Rachel (7/5): Good -
- Marks (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hiking (8/5): Very good - Very clean and well organized hotel with self check-in and friendly staff. The room was small, but perfect for this solo traveler. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The nearest tube station is a 20 minute walk, but bus stops on the road outside the hotel. I asked about early check-in at 3 pm (4 pm is the official time) and was told it would cost £20! This is just greedy. I can understand if I was asking for 2 or 3 hours earlier, but one hour should be no problem. The other thing was there was only one small table in the room that served as nightstand and had the hot water kettle on it, but the power outlet was away from the bed, so I'd have to move the table whenever I heated water. It doesn't cost so much to add a proper nightstand and have the table.
- Gilmartin (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): Great value, excellent for what I needed - Room had everything I needed including a desk, kettle, shower/bath combo, sink with mirror, hair dryer, and great air conditioning. Check in and check out was very fast and easy There was only a little space in the shower, but I am a tall person. Be aware that this location doesn't have a lift so if you're staying in the upper floors you'll have to climb steep stairs.
- Amini-philips (2/5): The property prices getting your money over your confirm - The staff were friendly. Harsh was particularly very helpful. The property has no cleaning provision. I thought that this was absurd for a stay that was up to a week. The room also did not have a reading desk. I was on a work trip, but could not be productive in the room. I complained but was told NOTHING can be done about it.
- Venita (8/5): Very good -
